International Day of Peace Vigil

In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution (A/RES/55/282) designating September 21st of each year as an International Day of Peace. The intention of the resolution is to have the entire world observe a day of peace and nonviolence. All peoples and organizations are invited to commemorate the day in an appropriate manner.

An ever expanding number of people worldwide representing a wide variety of religious and spiritual traditions has committed to the task of working with other like-minded individuals and groups for an International Day of Peace Vigil with the following objective:

" To encourage worldwide, 24-hour spiritual observations for peace and nonviolence on the International Day of Peace, Sunday, 21 September 2003 in every house of worship and place of spiritual practice, by all religious and spiritually based groups and individuals, and by all men, women and children who seek peace in the world."

This global 24-hour spiritual observation for peace is meant to demonstrate the power of prayer and other spiritual practices in promoting peace and preventing violent conflict. These worldwide spiritual observances will also help raise public awareness of the International Day of Peace and directly support the establishment of a global ceasefire. Individuals and groups are invited to support this worldwide initiative by committing to hold a 24-hour vigil on 21 September 2003.

International Day of Peace meditation Vigil

In 2003 the INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE will be observed on Sunday, September 21st. Find out how you can take part in a global vigil of meditation and prayer in support of the Day.

* Every year the United Nations calls upon individual people of goodwill and organisations to observe this International Day with activities dedicated to the creation of a culture of peace, and to a day of global cease-fire and non-violence.

* To support this special Day on a spiritual level, a group of organisations representing a wide variety of religious and spiritual traditions launched in 2002 an International Day of Peace Vigil, encouraging local groups and individuals to hold a 24 hour Vigil in houses of worship and places of spiritual practice.

* As a contribution to this global focus the United Nations Days & Years Meditation Initiative and Intuition in Service invites you to participate in an international Vigil of meditation and prayer for the 24 hours of September 21st from 0000 hours UST/GMT to 2400 hours UST/GMT.

The 24 hours has been divided into 15 minute periods. The aim is to have individuals or groups commit themselves to spend specific 15 minute periods in prayer or meditation for world peace. A list is available on this website of the names and countries of participants currently registered in each 15 minute slot.

b) The Autumnal Equinox on September 23rd

On September 23 at 10:47 am Universal Time/GMT, we will experience the Autumnal Equinox, or Mabon as it is known to those who celebrate the seasonal cycles. Many faiths will be celebrating this time of year. In the Northern Hemisphere, we are approaching Fall or Autumn. In the Southern Hemisphere, Spring is at hand. For at least the last 12,000 years, people all over the world have celebrated the passage of time, the journey of the Earth around the Sun, in ways that have connected their lives to the life of our planet. You are invited to mark this important moment, if you are so inspired, through joining with others around the world in meditation and prayers for 15 minutes at 10:47 am Universal Time/GMT (00:47 am in New York, 3:47 am in Los Angeles).

4. COMPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

WE ARE SPIRITUAL BEINGS HAVING A PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE

(...) Amongst the most quintessential realizations dawning upon millions of human beings is the incontrovertible fact that, well before being human bodies of flesh and bones endowed with conscience and some kind of invisible soul, we are spiritual beings having a physical experience. The stories brought back from beyond the veil of clinical death by a growing number of people, as well as the numerous opportunities for enlightenment and awakening provided, as if by chance, to so many of us, have positively contributed to bring about this paradigm shift in understanding to all those who have ears to listen and eyes to see. Yet, like a still fragile new plant shooting from the ground towards the light, few of us have fully realized all the implications of this simple new understanding and accordingly shifted their overall views and everyday priorities to match the entirely different perspective it provides on all we think, say and do and, most critically on what we are... We have not yet fully identified with the immortal, radiant speck of God that we are and thus this reality is barely manifested as compared to all it can potentially mean for all aspects of our lives. The following is excerpted from what is posted at http://www.aei.ca/~cep/MeditationFocus1a.htm

(...) we will not recommend any specific way to resolve each situation nor suggest any specific meditation method, preferring to allow each person's meditation or prayer to form according to their own inner guidance, which is at all times dedicated for the highest good of all. In taking such an approach, we recognize the fact that there are spiritual laws at work in any given situation, in the form of karmic consequences and learning experiences for the beings involved, and that we are not to infringe on the free will of others or take upon ourselves to decide the best resolution of any given crisis.

The general aim of this global healing work is to allow for as many people as possible to collectively attune their healing energies of peace, love and harmony towards achieving a critical mass of positive intents and vibrations of goodwill that will help catalyze the resolution of the crisis in a manner most conducive to the alleviation of suffering and the causation of peace.

By its very nature, the spiritual assistance one may bring in such instances is to be intuitively driven and entirely experiential. So even if some mental processing is necessary at first to review the information we will provide in a condensed format to introduce you to each meditation focus and enable a proper appraisal of the severity of the crisis, this information and any ensuing speculation are better left in the background during the meditation so that they do not impede the flow of healing energies through the channel we open in meditation.

The goal of the Focus Group is to facilitate a greater efficiency in the global healing already underway around the world through the participation of all those who regularly meditate and pray for peace, love and harmony on Earth, by selecting and proposing every week a common focus for our meditations and prayers. You are welcomed to join everyone else involved in this global healing work, for a few minutes every day at the moment of your own choosing, and every Sunday at noon local time, for an approximate duration of 30 minutes, focalizing innerly on the meditation focus or foci to be proposed each week from now on.

CLIP

Our basic aim is to work impartially for the highest good of all, with the guidance of Spirit. We encourage everyone participating in this global healing work to similarly strive to become neutral channels so as to help step down the powerful Divine vibrations of Love, Peace and Unity to a level at which they can be of assistance to alleviate the suffering of people and instill the goodwill necessary to resolve peacefully any conflictual situation involved with this week's Meditation Focus.

GLOBAL MEDITATION FOCUS GROUP CHARTER

The purpose of Global Meditation Focus Group is to facilitate greater cooperation, coordination, and synchronisation between those individuals, groups, and networks who work or wish to work for peace and healing on Earth through meditation and other consciousness-raising techniques. By doing so we believe that we will be providing the means for a greater degree of order to emerge from what sometimes seems to be an unfocused and - to some extent - individualistic movement of people and groups, and thereby increase the power and resonance of our collective healing intent. Although traditional networks will be used, the Focus Group will work primarily with the Internet, where mass communication can occur across geographical boundaries at an instant.

The work is based upon the following three ideas and principles:

1. We are all interconnected and we can all resonate to one another - as many have experienced during previous global meditations.

2. The more our minds and hearts are united around a common purpose through synchronized meditation and intent, the more powerful is our collective effect.

3. In meditation we become receptive to our essential unity with All That Is, and by so doing can act as channels for the further reception of this spiritual awareness and its unlimited love, wisdom, and power into the collective consciousness. This is particularly so when we are joined with each other in meditation and are allowing the powerful effect of this collective awareness to radiate out to all life.
