Today, as this planetary storm pattern resurfaces, global civilization faces an environmental and energy crisis that requires nothing less than the total restructuring of our Industrial Revolution technologies, political systems, business models, economic theories, and cultural assumptions.
Revolutions are already sweeping the volatile Middle East, and America is ripe for radical change.
The United States appears to be in the early stages of Imperial decline, and appears to be suffering from symptoms of economic and military hubris.
We are officially in an ever-expanding War on Terror in the Middle East, with troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, drone wars in Pakistan and Libya, and covert military operations underway in Iran, including sabotage, assassination and support for dissident rebel forces. The war could easily widen to include Syria, Yemen and more.
This War on Terror is a War Without End, pursued by a bipartisan political consensus established by Presidents Bush and Obama. The never-ending War on Terror results in never-ending and always-rising expenses. Several trillion and counting, so far. Plus $1 trillion a year in "normal" military spending.
Then there's the never-ending "Great Recession" afflicting America, Europe and Japan, the three key global consumer markets vital to a healthy global economy.
The "Great Recession" continues despite Bush and Obama's $10 trillion dollar Wall Street bailout. We are in a "recovery" according to Washington and the mainstream news media, but this recovery continues to act like a recession.
Houses are losing value every month. Now home sales in the United States are down 80% from the peak in July 2005. For most middle class families, the family home is the number one financial asset. Unfortunately, U.S. home values have declined an astounding 6.3 trillion dollars since the housing crisis first began. According to a recent census report, 13% of all homes in the United States are currently sitting empty. The housing crisis just seems to keep on getting worse. 31 percent of the homeowners that responded to a recent Rasmussen Reports survey indicated that they are "underwater" on their mortgages. Unfortunately, it looks like millions more middle class Americans could soon be in danger of losing their homes. According to the Mortgage Bankers Association, at least 8 million Americans are at least one month behind on their mortgage payments at this point.
Retail sales are anemic.
The only new jobs are McJobs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average duration of unemployment in the United States is now an all-time record 39 weeks.... The number of "low income jobs" in the U.S. has risen steadily over the past 30 years and they now account for 41 percent of all jobs in the United States.
Medical insurance costs and the price of gasoline are rising as fast as the price of gold. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, health care costs accounted for just 9.5% of all personal consumption back in 1980. Today they account for approximately 16.3%. A New York Post analysis has found that the rate of inflation in New York City has been about 14 percent over the past year.
The wealthiest 1% of all Americans now own more than a third of all the wealth in the United States. Wall Street is booming and corporations are declaring record profits while reporting that America's workers are more productive than ever.
Of course those workers are seeing no benefits from working harder and longer than ever before. Unions are under attack, women's right to choose is under attack, immigrants are under attack, Medicare is under attack, the EPA is under attack, and, more and more, President Obama wants to compromise with the radical right wingers who are setting an increasingly irrational American political agenda.
This looks a little pathetic to much of the rest of the world, including many friends and allies, but more importantly, whether you are worried about deflation or hyper-inflation, whether you are in favor of fiscal austerity or a proponent of neo-Keynesian stimulus, no matter what your ideology or political preference, it's hard to believe that the world should trust its financial future to the folks who blew up the global financial system, and who have clearly demonstrated they can't or won't fix it.
No wonder America's role as global financial hegemon is being questioned around the world in the wake of the financial collapse and the ongoing Great Recession, and some analysts now say that America's role as unchallenged sole super-power is becoming too expensive.
During the Vietnam war, during my youth, it was often said that "You can't have guns and butter." This meant that the government couldn't afford both expensive social programs and expensive foreign wars simultaneously.
Well today, after 40 more years of massively expanding military budgets and an endless succession of cold, hot and luke-warm wars and covert operations designed to decapitate and replace political leaders who fell out of favor in Washington, we are seeing that America can't afford to fight numerous foreign wars simultaneously without eliminating many social programs.
Especially after a multi-trillion dollar bailout of Wall Street and the biggest banks, a bailout which may have prevented a total global financial collapse, but which ultimately did little to promote a sustainable recovery.
And now there is no recovery at all except in the stock market where the bank bailout trillions have created a speculative bubble, and in commodities markets, where this same flood of hot money has created speculative bubbles in food, silver, gold and more.
That is why the entire middle class, unions, the elderly, the poor, environmental regulations, and more are about to be tossed overboard as "too expensive".
The only other alternative is to tax the rich and to insure that corporations pay their fair share of taxes. "From the end of the second world war into the early 1960s, the highest income earners paid a tax rate over 90% for many years," reports Richard Wolff in the UK Guardian. "Today, the top earners pay a rate of only 35%. . . Consider two further points: first, if the highest income earners today were required to pay the same rate that they paid for many years after 1945, the federal government would need far lower deficits to support the private economy through its current crisis; and second, those tax-the-rich years after 1945 experienced far lower unemployment and far faster economic growth than we have had for years."
Exxon Mobil 2009 profits totaled $19 billion, yet the company paid no federal taxes and received a $156 million tax rebate from the IRS, according to a handy guide to corporate tax deadbeats compiled by Senator Bernie Saunders.
Goldman, Sachs, which received $800 billion from the Treasury Department as part of the Wall Street bailout, made a profit of $2.3 billion in 2008, and paid 1.1% in federal taxes.
Citigroup 2009 profits totaled more than $4 billion, but the company paid $0 in federal taxes, after receiving a $2.5 trillion bailout from the US Treasury.
The list goes on and on. It's no surprise that Washington and Wall Street want to squeeze the middle class "until the pips squeak". The money for endless wars and financial bailouts for the wealthy and well-connected must be financed by someone, and it won't be the rich or the corporations.
It all adds up. Ten trillion here, six trillion there, a trillion a year for defense, maybe another few trillion for another bank bailout when the remaining tens of millions of foreclosures hit the streets, or when the government shuts down and the bond market has a heart attack, or when the commodities bubbles burst big-time, or when we decide to attack Iran and oil prices go to $200 a barrel and the global economy collapses.
Yes, the risks are there, because the Obama administration did virtually nothing to remove the players responsible for the financial meltdown, and did nothing to improve the regulation of Wall Street and our banking system, so that the same individuals who created the financial crisis were first rewarded by bailouts and then given a free pass for their mismanagement, fraud and abuse of the system. Obviously, they will do the same thing again, in spades. So there are many reasons to see Captain America's cape as a bit of a fraying rag these days.
If all this sounds a lot to you like the beginning of the end of the experiment in free market democracy that was just in its embryonic stage here in America in 1761, you are probably right. According to the Cosmic Weather Forecast, America is due for a revolution once again.
So we've got looming and already existing resource wars, a continuously troubled global economy with no real locomotive to pull the world out of its slump, extreme environmental events around the world, the worst nuclear disaster in human history still unfolding and likely to continue for years, and people in Washington arguing about whether or not to shut down the government for partisan political advantage, and about whether or not to go to war with Iran or just continue our present policy of clandestine operations, including sabotage, assassination and cyber-warfare. To America's leaders, the middle class is expendable, and the poor, the elderly, children, the infirm and other non-productive citizens are the new domestic American enemy.
No wonder that Chinese and Indian professionals I talk to here in the Bay Area invariably say that they are considering moving back home.
This is not a picture to inspire confidence in America among political or financial leaders anywhere in the world. In fact, one could easily predict that many less enlightened such leaders might make moves to dramatically increase authoritarian controls on their own societies around the world.
At this point in the Cardinal Cross Storm Years, which peak in 2012 and 2014, the elites that control the commanding heights of the global economy and the power centers of political capitals are struggling mightily to maintain the status quo. They are as likely to succeed in their efforts as King George was successful in his strenuous efforts to retain control of his colonies in the Americas.
But until the last we are sure to see a grand display of troops in a variety of extremely impressive uniforms armed with the very most advanced techno-weaponry attempting to do the impossible -- hold back the rising tide of history during a 250 year flood of civilizational change.
So here's your Long-Term Cosmic Weather Forecast in a nutshell: During the next few years we are likely to see a series of events that clearly define the end of the Industrial Revolution and the existing set of economic, military, political and religious relations that we know as global civilization. This necessarily entails the end of American global hegemony.

Cutting food waste to feed the world - Over a billion tonnes squandered each year

Rome - Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year — approximately 1.3 billion tonnes — gets lost or wasted, according to an FAO-commissioned study.
The document, Global Food Losses and Food Waste, was commissioned by FAO from the Swedish Institute for Food and Biotechnology (SIK) for Save Food!, an international congress being held in Düsseldorf 16-17 May at the trade fair of the international packaging industry Interpack2011.
Other key findings include:
- Industrialized and developing countries dissipate roughly the same quantities of food — respectively 670 and 630 million tonnes.
- Every year, consumers in rich countries waste almost as much food (222 million tonnes) as the entire net food production of sub-Saharan Africa (230 million tonnes).
- Fruits and vegetables, plus roots and tubers have the highest wastage rates of any food.
- The amount of food lost or wasted every year is equivalent to more than half of the world's annual cereals crop (2.3 billion tonnes in 2009/2010).
Losses and waste
The report distinguishes between food loss and food waste. Food losses — occurring at the production, harvest, post-harvest and processing phases — are most important in developing countries, due to poor infrastructure, low levels of technology and low investment in the food production systems.
Food waste is more a problem in industrialized countries, most often caused by both retailers and consumers throwing perfectly edible foodstuffs into the trash. Per capita waste by consumers is between 95-115 kg a year in Europe and North America, while consumers in sub-Saharan Africa and South and Southeast Asia each throw away only 6-11 kg a year.
Total per capita food production for human consumption is about 900 kg a year in rich countries, almost twice the 460 kg a year produced in the poorest regions. In developing countries 40 percent of losses occur at post-harvest and processing levels while in industrialized countries more than 40 percent of losses happen at retail and consumer levels.
Food losses during harvest and in storage translate into lost income for small farmers and into higher prices for poor consumers, the report noted. Reducing losses could therefore have an "immediate and significant" impact on their livelihoods and food security.
Squandering resources
Food loss and waste also amount to a major squandering of resources, including water, land, energy, labour and capital and needlessly produce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to global warming and climate change.
The report offered a number of practical suggestions on how to reduce losses and waste.
In developing countries the problem is chiefly one of inadequate harvest techniques, poor post-harvest management and logistics, lack of suitable infrastructure, processing and packaging, and lack of marketing information which would allow production to better match demand.
The advice is therefore to strengthen the food supply chain by assisting small farmers to link directly to buyers. The private and public sectors should also invest more in infrastructure, transportation and in processing and packaging.
In middle- and high-income countries food losses and waste stem largely from consumer behaviour but also from lack of communication between different actors in the supply chain.
Over-emphasis on appearance
At retail level, large quantities of food are also wasted due to quality standards that over-emphasize appearance. Surveys show that consumers are willing to buy produce not meeting appearance standards as long as it is safe and tastes good. Customers thus have the power to influence quality standards and should do so, the report said.
Selling farm produce closer to consumers, without having to conform to supermarkets' quality standards, is another suggestion. This could be achieved through farmers' markets and farm shops.
Good use for food that would otherwise be thrown away should be found. Commercial and charity organizations could work with retailers to collect, and then sell or use products that have been disposed of but are still good in terms of safety, taste and nutritional value..
Changing consumer attitudes
Consumers in rich countries are generally encouraged to buy more food than they need. "Buy three, pay two" promotions are one example, while the oversized ready-to-eat meals produced by the food industry are another. Restaurants frequently offer fixed-price buffets that spur customers to heap their plates.
Generally speaking, consumers fail to plan their food purchases properly, the report found. That means they often throw food away when "best-before" dates expired.
Education in schools and political initiatives are possible starting points to changing consumer attitudes, the report suggested. Rich-country consumers should be taught that throwing food away needlessly is unacceptable.
They should also be made aware that given the limited availability of natural resources it is more effective to reduce food losses than increase food production in order to feed a growing world population.
A separate report on food packaging for developing countries also prepared for the Save Food! congress noted that appropriate packaging is a key factor impacting on losses occurring at almost every stage of the food chain.

I’m sure we’re all very tired by now of the Osama bin Laden nonsense, I know I am, and I really wish it would just go away. Sadly, that seems an unlikely prospect in the near future. I’ve already provided more than enough evidence for all rational people to seriously doubt the authenticity of the “Osama bin Laden is dead” story. I’ve also exposed the many faked images and videos of the alleged terrorist mastermind that were released over the past 10 years. But the US government and CIA aren’t ready to quit just yet. It would appear that they’re determined to push the boundaries of belief and exploit public credulousness to the max (and perhaps beyond). You’re probably aware that yesterday, Sat. 7th May 2011, the US government released “new” videos of ‘bin Laden’ that they claimed were part of the haul from the ‘compound’ in Pakistan, which, by the way, is very conveniently scheduled for destruction. These new videos include footage that is similar to previous ‘bin Laden’ tapes, but also include footage of some guy sitting in a room watching news reports about Osama bin Laden. The US government and the fawning Western media are claiming that the guy sitting on the floor watching television is Osama bin Laden in his ‘compound’ and that the video could have been made as recently as Spring 2011. The problem is that we only get to see the man sitting on the floor from the side, there are no front-on shots that would allow us to see the man’s face and ascertain whether or not he looks anything like bin Laden and there is no audio (apparently it was edited by the Pentagon). As you can see, the real bin Laden has a pronounced deep and flattened helix (the top outer rim of the outer ear). Whereas the ‘new’ ‘bin Laden’ has a rather petite ear (quite the envy of all in the psy-ops division of the CIA I’d say). In fact, both of the real bin Laden’s ears have this characteristic. It’s pretty astounding that the CIA would be so cavalier as to release videos that can so easily be proven to feature someone other than the real Osama bin Laden. Then again, perhaps this is indicative of the contempt with which the CIA and US government consider the general US, and to a lesser extent world, public. I think we can safely assume that the US government and all of those behind the phony ‘war on terrorism’ (which is clearly a global war of imperial conquest) and the 9/11 attacks believe that there is little if anything that the public will not accept as long as it comes from official sources. So far, the public has done nothing to suggest that this belief is ill-founded. In short, and once again, you are being sold a monstrous lie. And you can have no doubt that believing lies always carries consequences for the believers. The seriousness of the consequences depends on the seriousness of the lie. Given that the lie that is the official narrative of the ‘war on terror’ implicates the believers in the murder of 1.5 million Iraqi and Afghan citizens, 3,000 US citizens, the torture of thousands of innocent people and the destruction of civil liberties the world over, they may want to reconsider their position.

Osama Bin Laden's death is being celebrated, and everyone seems to repeat the old conspiracy theory that he was indeed the mastermind behind the terror attacks of 9/11. But that was never proven, and there is not even evidence hinting at such a connection according to the FBI. It is very well possible that completely different organizations than al-Qaeda were responsible for the planning and execution of 9/11, and that the latter was merely one of the involved parties. Osama Bin Laden was never formally charged, because the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation didn't deliver the necessary evidence to the Department of Justice, which would be the required path in this matter. Another explanation for the lack of criminal charges was brought forward by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld at the time, who said that the 911 attack was an act of war and not a law enforcement matter. But this mere redefining of the attack doesn't explain why no evidence would be needed to proof who was behind the attacks, and how it was accomplished. Just for comparison, the airplanes that attacked Pearl Harbor were clearly Japanese, and they didn't come from nowhere, but were launched from aircraft carriers within range. If anyone is surprised by this fact, which one could be excused for as it is very rarely mentioned by your friendly television pundit, read for yourself what Rex Tom, FBI Director of Investigative Publicity, stated in 2006 about the FBI's position:“The FBI gathers evidence. But when I heard the terror tale making the news of this past week – that Obama sin had assassinated Osama bin on Pakistani territory – I couldn't help LOL (Laughing Out Loud) at the sheer preposterousness of the whole fable.Obviously, it's hardly a laughing matter to boast about militarily assaulting and assassinating someone at night in his home in a foreign country on a fabricated accusation, without trial and without even a trace of legal evidence. I can't think of anything more illegal and criminal than that. I wonder if this is what Obama talked about in his State of the Union speech in January, when he proclaimed, “America’s moral example must always shine for all who yearn for freedom and justice and dignity.” The give-away assertion that they had already dumped Osama's body in the sea, was when I exploded with LOL. Abbottabad, where the assassination supposedly took place, is about a thousand miles away from the sea. If they really did carry out the claimed operation, it was clearly not Osama bin Laden that was killed. This could be a parallel to when they hastily shipped off the rubble from the controlled demolition of the three World Trade Center buildings after 9/11, without allowing any forensic analysis of it. And incidentally without finding any of the four “black boxes” (actually orange boxes) from the two airplanes. But Mohamad Atta's undamaged passport was found on top of the burning rubble from the WTC! And Air France found both its boxes at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Nor did the US government's investigators find any of the boxes pertaining to the two other planes claimed to be hijacked and part of the operation. One supposedly crashed to the ground in Pennsylvania, and the other famously flew through a small hole into the Pentagon without a trace of engines or any other airplane parts to show for it. Then, when president Obama – from a sense of delicacy, mind you – decided not to show videos and photos he said existed of Osama's assassination, I had another attack of triumphant LOL - I KNEW IT! Because the superb modern technology that allows faking photos and videos, also makes it easy to spot the fakes. And several previously published videos of Osama had been exposed as fakes. Either Obama's people were unable to produce convincing “evidence” within a reasonable timeframe, or they simply did not dare present it for fear it would be torn to pieces by his opponents, exposing the fake. It is described by Allen as "the inquest of the inquest" and has drawn controversy because it will show a photograph of the dying princess taken by paparazzi moments after her car crashed in a Paris tunnel. California Skywatch watchdog exposes how clandestine NASA-military programs are poisoning the environment, food and water supply (...) In a string of increasingly alarming reports, every one of the troubled reactors at the site faced major new setbacks this week as the Tokyo Electric Power Co and the Japanese government struggled to maintain the appearance that the situation was under control.After admitting that radiation levels in the building housing Reactor number 1 had reached 700 millisieverts per hour on Monday, TEPCO was forced to concede on Thursday that the reactor core has in fact been exposed and melted down, causing a leak in the containment vessel itself. This not only poses greater likelihood of contamination of groundwater, but makes it even more difficult to continue cooling operations. As one nuclear adviser noted, TEPCO’s current operation of flooding the core must now be scrapped, as large amounts of cold water hitting melted fuel could trigger another explosion, causing a further massive atmospheric radiation release. Meanwhile, a new leak was found at reactor number 3 this week, and an unknown amount of radioactive material was confirmed to have leaked into the ocean. This leak was reportedly sealed by Wednesday. On Tuesday the Japanese government confirmed that the number 4 reactor building was leaning and that emergency work had been done to shore up the building to prevent it from collapsing in the event of another earthquake or aftershock. Reactor 4 contains fuel rods from 3 to 4 reactors, leading to worries that a building collapse would lead to spent fuel rods being scattered around the Fukushima site, making the entire area unworkable. As nuclear engineer Arnold Gunderson notes, the admissions of containment vessel leaks in three of the reactors represents a turn of events that nuclear regulators in the United States have previously thought impossible. In the latest setback, one of the plant workers collapsed and died shortly after beginning his shift at the Fukushima plant on Saturday. The cause of death has yet to be determined. CLIP

I received the following email a few days ago from a Russian nuclear physicist friend who is an expert on the kinds of gases being released at Fukushima. Here is what he wrote: About Japan: the problem is that the reactor uses “dirty” fuel. It is a combination of plutonium and uranium (MOX). I suspect that the old fuel rods have bean spread out due to the explosion and the surrounding area is contaminated with plutonium which means you can never return to this place again. It is like a new Tchernobyl. Personally, I am not surprised that the authority has not informed people about this. I have been following the Fukushima story very closely since the earthquake and devastating tsunami. I have asked scientists I know, nuclear physicists and others about where they find real information. I have also watched as the news has virtually disappeared. There is something extremely disturbing going on, and having lived through the media blackout in France back in April and early May 1986, and speaking to doctors who are deeply concerned by the dramatic increase in cancers appearing at very young ages, it is obvious that information is being held back. We are still told not to eat mushrooms and truffles from parts of Europe, not wild boar and reindeer from Germany and Finland 25 years later.

Arnie Gundersen was a high-level executive for years and analyzes the information he has been receiving in a calm and scientific way. His latest update is entitled, “Fukushima Groundwater Contamination Worst in Nuclear History.” Gundersen is in touch with senior members of the Japanese nuclear establishment. What is highly disturbing is that the main reason Japan does not appear to be as bad a Chernobyl is that the wind was blowing out to sea and not for the most part towards land. But all this has done is spread the cancers out into the worldwide population as opposed to concentrating it all in Japan. It will be very difficult to tell, as it was in France, Scandinavia and other places, where the Chernobyl cloud traveled in the days following the disaster. Since Gunderson made this latest video, just a day or so ago new photo evidence seems to be showing burning and new fires taking place at Fukushima (from TBS JNN Japan): Why is this not on the front page of every single newspaper in the world? Why are official agencies not measuring from many places around the world and reporting on what is going on in terms of contamination every single day since this disaster happened? Radioactivity has been being released now for almost two full months! Contrary to previous reports that NILO has stopped making Japan nuclear radiation forecasts , the forecasts are still being producing, but they are just not being released to the public. Nuclear radiation forecasts discovered just today on the site show emergency levels of radiation in the latest forecasts censored from the public. Japan recently announced a massive censorship campaign to silence so-called “irresponsible rumors” about the nuclear radiation being released from Fukushima. Japan’s weather chief also censored radiation forecasts to “prevent panic in ordinary people”. The news of censorship in Japan was coupled with an announcement that the United States would help Japan in silencing irresponsible rumors. The first course of action the US took was to stop all daily nuclear radiation monitoring of milk, drinking water and rainwater instead electing to now do radiation tests once every three months. Those announcements were followed by news that the Norwegian Air Institute (NILO) shut down their program to product radiation forecasts. While forecasts haven’t been publicly accessible on the NILO site for some time several YouTube users have discovered that NILO is in fact still producing radiation forecasts, but they are being censured from release to the public. New forecasts show a very predominate cloud of radiation that seems to blanket most of the United states in the next few days. Looking at the map you can see that the brunt of this cloud will hit the Western United States as well as Canada very hard. With steady winds flowing from japan and heading east ,we will continue to see this happen. Highly radioactive substances were detected in parts of Tokyo. Japan’s Asahi Shimbun reports about 3,200 and nearly 2-thousand becquerels of radioactive cesium per kilogram were found in the soil of Tokyo districts of Koto and Chiyoda, respectively, from testing conducted between April 10th and the 20th. This amount is higher than what was found in the prefectures near the Fukushima plant and experts warn that other areas may be subject to radiation contamination as clusters of clouds containing radioactive material remain in the atmosphere.

The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says it may take a number of years to remove damaged nuclear fuel rods from the Number 1 reactor.The Tokyo Electric Power Company announced on Saturday, that most of the fuel rods in the Number 1 reactor have melted and fallen to the bottom of the reactor where they are submerged in water. TEPCO announced in April that it was aiming to get the reactor stabilized and cooled down in 6 to 9 months. However, no timeline has yet been proposed for the removal of the nuclear fuel. The company plans to study measures taken at the 1979 Three Mile Island accident in the US, where a meltdown of nuclear fuel rods also occurred. There it took almost 10 years to remove melted fuel at the bottom of the reactor, which resembled hardened lava. Dozens of leopard sharks have been washing up dead in California since April, and now a necropsy shows at least one of the sharks died of massive internal bleeding, such that blood was even coming out of the shark's skin, according to a Daily News report. The necropsy, conducted by the California Department of Fish and Game, uncovered "inflammation, bleeding and lesions in the brain, and hemorrhaging from the skin near vents." According to the Daily News story, bleeding was additionally detected around the tested female's other internal organs. The results suggest the 50 sharks that have washed up dead at Redwood Shores in Redwood City, California, since April must have died a slow and agonizing death. Catherine Greer, a resident of the city, said she and her son tried to save some of the sharks by returning them to the water, but "they'd swim right back, thrashing their heads against the shore ... as if they were trying to commit suicide." Sean Van Sommeran, executive director of the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation in nearby Santa Cruz, suspects "we're only seeing a tiny fraction of what's going on," meaning more sharks and other animals are likely being affected by the problem. According to California Department of Fish and Game there have been dozens of Tiger sharks being found washed ashore with “inflammation, bleeding and lesions in the brain, and hemorrhaging from the skin near vents.” This is a great concern as its obvious that this is a result of some toxic chemicals in the water. You just can't make this up: proving that Japan can outdo even the Russians when it comes to nuclear crisis "response", Dow Jones reports that the latest scheme to come out of TEPCO is to cover Fukushima with a giant tent. It is unclear if it will have a circus coloration yet. From DJ: "Giant polyester covers will soon be placed around the damaged reactor buildings at Japan's Fukushima nuclear complex to help contain the release of radioactive substances into the atmosphere, the plant operator said Friday. Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) will install the first cover at the No. 1 reactor, the focus of recent stabilization efforts, starting next month." This probably means that Japan looked long and hard at the concrete shell option and realized it was impossible, which is true. The problem is that by now the melted cores are not in the complex, but deep beneath it and the radioactivity is actively seeping directly into the soil. And since the polyester tent idea is doomed to failure, it is only a matter of time before the Simpsons dome is firmly in place over a ragion with a radius of about 20 kilometers. Impossible you say? Just wait. "Workers will erect a steel framework and place a giant polyester tent-like cover around the reactor building. Similar covers will be placed around units No. 3 and 4. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year. A series of hydrogen explosions blew off the roofs and upper walls of the three reactors in the days after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami knocked out their cooling systems, triggering the overheating of the reactors. "Our analysis shows that a tsunami of a certain height (some 7 meters in the absence of a seawall and some 15 meters if one were present) or higher would have almost a 100 percent chance of damaging the reactor core...," the Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization said in the report."We presume a tsunami of at least 7 meters would destroy the functions of a seawater pump and that of at least 15 meters would destroy outside equipment such as an electrical transformer." Herbal Protection Against Radiation Sickness -- Can Tulsi Tea REALLY Protect Against Radiation Sickness? As the consequences of Japan's recent earthquake and tsunami continue to unfold exposure to radiation from damaged nuclear plants remains one of the greatest concerns for those living near the area. Even as far away as the United States, where the increase in radiation exposure related to Japan's damaged nuclear plants has been slight, there has been a run on radioprotective iodine tablets and the limited remaining supplies have sold at grossly elevated prices. Yet despite the world's current concern for the possible effects of accidental radiation exposure, there has been no mention of the well documented radioprotective effects of Holy Basil, which is also known in its native India as Tulsi. Tulsi is venerated in India as one of the most sacred herbs and has been used there for thousands of years as a principle herb of the Ayurvedic tradition. More recently, there have been scientific studies of the herb's many beneficial effects, including its efficacy as a powerful antioxidant and free radical scavenger that protects the body against the effects of exposure to radiation. There are actually three different varieties of basil that are all referred to in India as "Holy" Basil. The best known is identified by botanists as Ocimum sanctum. This species includes a variety with green leaves, known as Sri or Rama basil as well as a variety with dark, greenish-purple leaves known as Shyama or Krishna basil. The third variety is Ocimum gratissimum, which is locally known as Vanu basil. All three varieties were evaluated as aqueous extracts (tea) in animal studies in 1986 and were shown to have significant antiradiation effects. The results of these studies were presented at the Indian Science Congress in Jaipur in 1986 (Jogetia, G.C., Devi, U. Singhatgeri, M.K., and Kohli, R.P. Radiation modifying effects of Ocimum sanctum on mouse survival. Proc. Ind. Sci. Cong., Jaipur. 1986, pp 20). A later study in 1997 examined bone marrow stem cell survival and chromosome aberration in mice exposed to gamma radiation and subsequently given extract of Ocimum basilicum. With bottled water in scarce supply (rationed to 2 liters per person when it is available at all), it's seller's market. And yet, one of the best uses of Evian in northeast Japan might be pouring it into the dirt. When we were contacted by the Permaculture Institute of Japan about what they should do regarding Fukushima radioactivity, we had a number of immediate suggestions, and over the weeks more have trickled in from our extended permaculture family. GE's Japanese Nuclear Disaster still has the attention of the world. It is like the BP Gulf Oil Spill of 2010, a slow-moving monster, chewing up rich, diverse, biological ecosystems and leaving a toxic cancer on the landscape that will fester for decades, if not centuries.
(...) That said, rigorous lifecycle analyses for 15 separate distributed generation and renewable energy technologies found that all emitted less CO2 than the mean reported for nuclear plants. While nuclear power may produce less CO2e than fossil fuels, it produces considerably more than most renewables, and at a considerably higher price per either kWh or installed Watt. (...) When speaking of man-made elements like plutonium, the damage is essentially forever. We are diminished. The world of our children will always be less safe and more sad than it was for our parents. It is now worth saying again that none of this kind of thing happens with wind, solar, or tidal energy, and there is, and has been, more of those kinds of energy sources available to Japan, and everyone else, at a cheaper price, since the beginning of the nuclear age. Politics being what it is, the feds may ultimately bail out the localities — in which case the national debt could end up even bigger than projected.It's not just the sheer amount of debt that is so worrisome. After all, the U.S. debt is dwarfed by Japan's, which comes to more than 200% of its GDP. But while the Japanese government borrows overwhelmingly from its own people, the U.S. government cannot; Americans just don't save enough to make that possible. Instead, like Britain in the twilight of its empire, the U.S. finances a still ambitious foreign policy with loans from foreigners. And its top creditor is, of course, a populous and rising power that does not necessarily sympathize with its objectives.It's not difficult to imagine a scenario in which China uses its financial muscle against the U.S., just as the U.S. used its muscle against Britain. Consider a confrontation over Taiwan, long a potential flash point because of Beijing's insistence that the de facto independent nation is legally part of China. Beijing's leadership, seeking to get its way without a shooting war it would lose, looks to unconventional weapons. It considers cyberattacks on U.S. servers but recognizes that digital vandalism would be viewed as an act of deliberate aggression — and that the Pentagon might retaliate. So it turns to a lever that seems proper and legal. An obscure technocrat at China's central bank announces sales of U.S. Treasuries.
It would be hard for the U.S. to protest such an action. Under American law, the Chinese freely bought U.S. government debt; they are equally at liberty to sell it. But the selling would have catastrophic consequences for the U.S., because the Chinese government owns an estimated $1.2 trillion worth of U.S. Treasuries, or 14% of the total held by investors. If China announced a plan to sell off this stake gradually — or even if it stopped buying Treasuries at its customary pace — other players in the bond market would see that Treasury prices were headed downward. Every gunslinger on Wall Street would shoot his way toward the exit. The immediate impact would be ugly. As investors fled Treasuries, the government's borrowing cost would skyrocket. Some of the fleeing investors would take money abroad, so the dollar would plummet. And these first-round effects would be trivial compared with the larger psychological impact, for even more than the Lehman Brothers crash of September 2008, a Treasury meltdown would cause cardiac arrest in the heart of the economy. U.S. government securities are revered in the financial world as the risk-free asset. They are the modern equivalent of gold; they are the safe haven in times of trouble. Indeed, when Lehman imploded, capital flooded out of private-debt markets and into Treasuries; similarly, after the 9/11 attacks, Treasuries rallied briskly. But if China were to engineer an inverse crisis, in which the customary lifeboat became the source of the storm, a different order of panic might ensue. There would be nowhere to hide; nobody would trust anybody. When you hear that sober Wall Street types have stockpiled food and ammunition in hideouts in the deep woods, this is the Armageddon they imagine.

Canada’s national citizens’ movement for voting reform has released analysis of Tuesday’s federal election results showing that the outcome does not accurately reflect the way Canadians voted. “The Conservative party increased their vote percentage by less than two points,” says Fair Vote Canada (FVC) President Bronwen Bruch, “but this allowed them to win 24 more seats than in 2008, when they were already over-represented. Stephen Harper calls this a ‘decisive endorsement’, but we call it a rip-off.” At the time of writing, these were the actual seats won and leading for each party: CON 167, NDP 102, LIB 34, BQ 4, GREEN 1If the seats were won in proportion to the votes that were cast, the numbers would look like this: CON 122, NDP 95, LIB 59, BQ 19, GREEN 13 -- According to these results, the Conservatives have won 54.22% of the seats with only 39.62% of the votes, one of the least legitimate majorities in Canadian history. “This is a classic phony majority,” said Bruch, “and leaves us with a government that is completely unaccountable to Parliament. As long as they maintain rigid party discipline, nothing bad can happen to them for four years.” The FVC analysis shows that the NDP, historically under-represented by Canada’s winner-take-all voting system, is now over-represented by seven seats, thanks to the “orange wave” that vaulted them into second place. The Liberal Party, on the other hand, traditionally over-represented to the degree that they were regarded as Canada’s “natural governing party”, is now the chief victim of the voting system. While their vote percentage fell by less than 8%, they lost more than half their seats. The Bloc Québécois, which has always previously been over-represented because their votes are concentrated in one region, has been decimated. Although their vote percentage has collapsed, they should still be entitled to 19 seats, but they are winning or leading in only four seats. The Green Party is ecstatic to have finally won a single seat, but they actually received enough votes across the country to win 13 seats.“Across the country,” added Fair Vote Canada Executive Director Wayne Smith, “vote splits between the Liberals and NDP allowed the Conservatives to steal seats. Once again, our antiquated voting system has given us the wrong government, a government that most of us voted against.“It is truly time to change our voting system. Harper may have won the most seats in Parliament on Tuesday, but our vision of Canada won a large majority of the people -- again. Over 60% of us voted for the opposition, and almost 25% of voters used the strategic voting tool supported by Avaaz! Despite outspending the Liberals 15:1 on vicious American-style attack ads, Harper only increased his percentage of the vote by 2%. Still, it's going to be a challenging 4 years. And the stakes are high. Harper has promised to be the PM for all Canadians, and we should give him a chance to show it. But we have every reason to fear that he will try to use his unchecked power to Americanize our country - abolishing public funding for political parties so that private money rules politics, slashing CBC funding and supporting crony-media outlets like SunTV, giving corporations more political power while cutting their taxes, privatizing health care delivery, deregulating guns, growing the tar sands and wrecking international efforts at everything from climate change to poverty reduction. But sometimes it takes a period of darkness for our brightest lights emerge. A powerful movement of Canadians is already rising to meet the challenge of Harperism. Together we can fight back online, in Parliament, in the streets, in the media, in the courts, and in provincial and municipal elections. Canada is entering a time of trial -- let's make this the time that we remembered who we are, and fought for it. Standing up to Harper issue by issue won't be enough to protect the Canada we love -- we're going to need more fundamental change. We'll push to change a system where the progressive majority of Canadians is fragmented by political party and our electoral system, allowing a radical minority to govern. We'll push for change in our culture of citizenship, inspiring our fellow citizens to get involved and vote. And we'll push for change in our commercial media, so it's no longer almost completely owned by a small number of conservative families. And finally, we'll push for change in the conservative movement, so that Canadian (progressive!) Conservatives stand up to Harper's American-inspired set, and stop him from trashing the environmental, gun control, and health care views and values of a majority of conservatives. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Monday extended the deadline for raising the national debt limit to August 2 - but said the federal government had begun taking "extraordinary measures" to reach that date without exceeding the limit, and warned Congress against delaying action on a vote.In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Monday, Geithner outlined some of the measures he is taking to prevent an economic crisis as the government nears its $14.3 trillion debt limit. If Congress does not approve an increase to the limit, the federal government could default on its bonds for the first time in history, and Social Security and Medicare checks would likely see delays as a result of the government's inability to make payments to agencies. The present NATO campaign against Gaddafi in Libya has given rise to great confusion, both among those waging this ineffective campaign, and among those observing it. Many whose opinions I normally respect see this as a necessary war against a villain – though some choose to see Gaddafi as the villain, and others point to Obama. My own take on this war, on the other hand, is that it is both ill-conceived and dangerous -- a threat to the interests of Libyans, Americans, the Middle East and conceivably the entire world. Beneath the professed concern about the safety of Libyan civilians lies a deeper concern that is barely acknowledged: the West’s defense of the present global petrodollar economy, now in decline..The confusion in Washington, matched by the absence of discussion of an overriding strategic motive for American involvement, is symptomatic of the fact that the American century is ending, and ending in a way that is both predictable in the long run, and simultaneously erratic and out of control in its details.

)...) Conclusion - I conclude from all this confusion and misrepresentation that America is losing its ability to enforce and maintain peace, either by itself or with its nominal allies. I would submit that, if only to stabilize and reduce oil prices, it is in America’s best interest now to join with Ban Ki-Moon and the Pope in pressing for an immediate cease-fire in Libya. Negotiating a cease-fire will certainly present problems, but the probable alternative to ending this conflict is the nightmare of watching it inexorably escalate. America has been there before with tragic consequences. We do not want to see similar casualties incurred for the sake of anunjust petrodollar system whose days may be numbered anyway. At stake is not just America’s relation to Libya, but to China. The whole of Africa is an area where the west and the BRIC countries will both be investing. Previous transitions of global dominance have been marked by wars, by revolutions, or by both together. The final emergence through two World Wars of American hegemony over British hegemony was a transition between two powers that were essentially allied, and culturally close. The whole world has an immense stake in ensuring that the difficult transition to a post-US hegemonic order will be achieved as peacefully as possible.

Few animals face as violent, as well organized, and as determined an enemy as the world's rhinos. Across the globe rhinos are being slaughtered in record numbers; on average more than one rhino is killed by poachers everyday. After being shot or drugged, criminals take what they came for: they saw off the animal's horn. Used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which claims that it has curative properties, rhino horn is worth more than gold and cocaine on the black market. However, science proves all this cash and death is based on a lie. "There is no medicinal benefit to consuming rhino horn. It has been extensively analyzed in separate studies, by different institutions, and rhino horn was found to contain no medical properties whatsoever," says Rhishja Larson, creator and head of the organization Saving Rhinos and author of the blog, Rhino Horn is NOT Medicine. With a business and marketing background, Larson has taken a unique approach to advocating for the world's rhinos. She believes that raising awareness may be key to winning the war against poaching. "Until we acknowledge the root of the problem, we cannot take real steps to solve it. There is still a large segment of the public—including the media—that does not realize we are looking at an organized crime issue. […] Here's an illegal market laundering an obscene amount of money—and it's all based on a myth, a superstition about an animal part," Larson explains, adding that, "I believe if the public knew the whole story, there would be a greater effort to disrupt—and ultimately close down—the rhino horn trade." According to Larson, rhino poaching, and the illegal wildlife trade in general, is not taken seriously enough. "Exactly like illegal drugs and weapons, the illegal rhino horn trade depends on activities such as fraud, money laundering, racketeering, and violence. It requires the involvement of corrupt officials at the local, national, and international levels." South Africa has become the recent epicenter for rhino poaching. Last year 333 rhinos were butchered in the country alone. This year, to date, over 140 rhinos have been killed in the country. Larson says South Africa is targeted in part because it holds over two thirds of the world's rhinos, but, she adds, "the bigger issue here is South Africa's legal rhino trade, which is providing a smokescreen for illegal trade in rhino horn." Trophy hunters are allowed to kill a rhino for a premium price; however, this has allowed poachers in some cases to kill rhinos without attracting attention to their true motives. Rhino poaching, along with rampant deforestation, have put three of five rhino species into the Critically Endangered category, the worst before extinction. In fact, the Javan rhino and the Sumatran are two of the world's most endangered mammals. However one describes it, this biological wonder may be under threat as Tanzania plans to mine in a flamingo breeding ground that is not only regionally important, but globally. Astoundingly, over half of the world's lesser flamingos (between 65-75%) are born in a single lake in northern Tanzania: Lake Natron. This shallow salt lake provides optimal habitat for flamingos and their chicks as the caustic environment keeps mammal predators at bay. But conservationists worry that plans to mine soda ash—also known as sodium carbonate, which is used in making glass, chemicals, and detergents—would disrupt the sensitive birds' breeding grounds, threatening the species and putting a damper on East Africa's tourism industry. How Safe are the thousands of chemicals children encounter everyday? THEY'RE IN THE TOYS CHILDREN PLAY WITH, ON THE FOODS THEY EAT AND IN THE AIR THEY BREATHE. Each year, about 27 trillion lb. (12 trillion kg) of ~ chemicals are produced in or imported into the U.S., and pediatricians say, there is precious little research regarding the effects that the bulk of these compounds may have on children's development. That's why the American Academy of Pediatrics' Council on Environmental Health has urged the government to require more testing and evaluation of the tens of thousands of chemicals children are exposed to daily. The primary law regulating chemicals in the U.S., the Toxic Substances Control Act ~ (TSCA) of 1976, is outdated, the academy's experts said, calling it "ineffective" in a policy statement. Only five chemicals including dioxin, asbestos and polychlorinated biphenyls have been regulated under the act in the past three decades and the TSCA does not require any chemical manufacturer to conduct premarket testing of its products' effects on human health. Increasingly, however, studies find that widely used chemicals like bisphenol A, phthalates and pesticides are associated with long-term health problems in children. Indeed, days before the academy released its policy statement; three research groups independently reported that babies with higher prenatal exposure to pesticides had lower IQs in childhood than those born to women with less exposure. Still, while studies show that virtually all children and adults have evidence of such chemicals in their systems-they regularly appear in tests of blood, tissues and body fluids like breast milk, that doesn't tell us which ones are actually doing harm. To figure that out, the council urged health officials to require chemical makers to safety-test their products before releasing them to the market. Only then will we know whether the convenience of all these new products is worth the cost.

Report likely to raise tensions in earthquake-ravaged nation -- Five thousand dead, 300,000 ill, and a medical emergency that has already lasted six months; now the people of Haiti have someone to blame for the cholera outbreak which has swept through their earthquake-ravaged country: the blue-helmeted peacekeepers of the United Nations. An official report into the ongoing epidemic, which began last October, has concluded that it was almost certainly caused by a poorly constructed sanitation system installed at a rural camp used by several hundred UN troops from Nepal. The virulent strain of cholera bacteria began infecting locals after faecal matter from their base seeped from badly designed septic pits into the Meye River, a tributary of the Artibonite River in the country's central region. The river system is used by tens of thousands of mostly rural Haitians to provide water for drinking, cooking, bathing and washing clothes. When large numbers began falling ill, hospitals were quickly overwhelmed. It was then only a matter of time before the outbreak spread to major cities.The findings will only add to tension between peacekeepers and the citizens of a country which is still barely starting to recover from the worst natural disaster in modern history. The earthquake in January last year left between 200,000 and 300,000 people dead, and 1.5 million homeless. The UN's glacial response to the initial disaster, and the slow progress of reconstruction efforts – about 750,000 Haitians still live in "temporary" refugee camps – has been a cause of complaint in the capital, Port-au-Prince. With the rainy season approaching, health experts fear cholera could add to their woes by infecting a further 500,000 people. That would represent a major public relations disaster for the UN mission. Since October, many locals have blamed Nepalese peacekeepers for introducing cholera to their country. Before Christmas, and again last week, the issue sparked protests, with reports of crowds throwing rocks at UN staff. The report into the cholera outbreak, which was compiled by a four-person panel of medical experts and released on Wednesday night, justifies many of their complaints. It concluded that the cholera in Haiti originated in Asia, as many locals suspected, and matches strains found in Nepal in 2009. CLIP

It's a mysterious condition that affects tens of thousands worldwide. But what is it? (...) The evidence on his computer does appear convincing. Much thinner than his body hair, the fibres seem to be protruding from his sores. But what are they? And how did they get there? To find out, I'm heading to the 4th Annual Morgellons Conference in Austin, Texas, to meet a molecular biologist who doesn't believe the medical consensus. Rather, he argues, the forensic tests he's commissioned on the fibres point to something altogether more unworldly.In spring 2005, Randy Wymore, associate professor of pharmacology at Oklahoma State University, stumbled across an article about morgellons. Reading about the fibres sufferers believed were the byproduct of some weird parasite, but which were dismissed by dermatologists as humdrum environmental detritus, he thought, "But this should be easy to figure out." He emailed sufferers, requesting samples, then compared them with samples of cotton, nylon, carpets and curtains. Examining them under the microscope, he got a shock. The sufferers' fibres looked utterly different.Wymore arranged for fibre analysis at the Tulsa police department's forensic laboratory. Moments into his tests, a detective with 28 years' experience of this sort of work murmured, "I don't think I've ever seen anything like this." The morgellons particles didn't match any of the 800 fibres on their database, nor the 85,000 known organic compounds. He heated one fibre to 600C and was astonished to find it didn't burn. By the day's end, Wymore concluded, "There's something real going on here. Something we don't understand at all."
(...) There is one element of the condition that's been niggling, though. Both Paul and Greg's morgellons began with an explosion of itching. Now it's affecting me: the night after my meeting with Paul, I couldn't sleep for itching. I had two showers before bed and another in the morning. All through the convention, I am tormented; driven to senseless scratching. Why is itch so infectious?
(...) The CDC is due to publish a long-delayed study on the condition and, if it proves Oaklander's theory correct, this would explain a great deal. Why, for example, Greg Smith's lesions stopped developing when he stopped scratching: because they were self-inflicted. Why I found fibres on my hand: because they are picked up from the environment. What's more, if morgellons is not actually a disease but a combination of symptoms that might have all sorts of different maladies as its source, this squares with something Savely said she's "constantly perplexed about… when I find a treatment that helps one person, it doesn't help the next at all. Tests in UK failed to pick up on markers following a test done in Germany that indicated Lyme - so at a cost of over £1000 my blood was sent to the states where the test came back as positive. Lyme disease was pretty much the topic of the second day of the conference, yet the connection isn't mentioned in the article at all. A German Doctor who is treating people with both Lyme and Morgellons with a degree of success gave an amazing seminar, yet didn't get a mention in the article. The shame of it is that the poor Guys back in the states were all so excited that the British press were interested and really thought that the world would stand up and take notice if the Guardian took this on. I truly thought that Will's angle was going to help, but actually what he has written is as ambiguous as every other article. Dr whymore had so much more to say, why pick up on the odd duck feather. This is suffering to the extreme the terror is mind blowing and belittled by meaningless words. The project, which will see the installation of 210,000 smart water meters, a two-way communications network and a data management system, will enable the Ontario-based utility to eliminate estimated billing and provide a more efficient water service. According to a new study from the Swiss Federal Insititute of Technology, cell phone signals may confuse honeybees, causing them to become disoriented before ultimately dying. That’s a concern because 70 out of 100 of the world’s food crops are pollinated by honeybees. And the UN reports that the bee population is dropping all over the world.Daniel Favre, author of the paper titled “Mobile Phone-Induced Honeybee Worker Piping,” recorded honeybee reactions to phones in off, standby, and active modes in 83 experiments. He found that the noise the bees make increases 10 times when a call is in progress. That noise, referred to as “worker piping”, is normally used by bees as a signal that they are on their way out of the hive. So when a call causes the signal to go off, the bees get confused. While cell phones may not be the sole problem with the bees, since there has been speculation that fungus, climate change, or pesticides may be causing bee deaths. San Francisco has rarely shied away from a legal fight over its cutting-edge laws - be it Walgreens suing over the ban on selling cigarettes in drug stores or restaurants taking the city to court over its requirement that employers provide health care coverage.But the city's first-of-its-kind mandate requiring that retailers of cell phones label them with radiation levels has been placed on indefinite hold, and a watered-down version is likely to be passed in its place. Then-Mayor Gavin Newsom introduced the landmark legislation last year, and it was passed on a 10-1 vote by the Board of Supervisors. It required stores to display the radiation levels alongside each phone for sale. Newsom called it a "modest, commonsense measure" to give shoppers easy access to information phone manufacturers already have.The Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association, a trade group representing cell phone companies, sued the city over the law, saying that all phones marketed in the United States are considered safe by the Federal Communications Commission. The association also warned that the city could have to pick up the trade group's legal fees if the city lost.

It's also questions about the accuracy of the radiation labels, which some say could actually lead shoppers to buy phones that emit more radiation than others.Supervisor John Avalos said he plans to introduce changes to the law, but he didn't yet have details on what they might be. Additionally, you have to remember that cancer may not appear until you've been repeatedly exposed for several decades. For example, a review of 11 long-term epidemiologic studies published in the journal Surgical Neurology two years ago revealed that using a cell phone for 10 years or longer approximately doubles your risk of being diagnosed with a brain tumor on the same side of the head where the cell phone is typically held. Professor Mild, lead researcher of that particular study, cautioned that the danger may be even greater than what they found because cancers need a minimum of 10 years to develop. This places the primary cancer concern on our children, as they're now exposed to cell phones on a regular basis straight from birth.In essence, our children are the unwitting guinea pigs while researchers struggle to come to a consensus on the dangers. That means it's your job to decide which side you want to err on—the side of caution, or the side of trust in an industry that has everything to lose by admitting their products are a danger to human health… From my perspective, mounting evidence clearly indicates that we MUST invoke the precautionary principle with regards to cell phone use, as well as other wireless technologies. We must also insist on the release of cell phone usage data to independent researchers so society can accelerate its understanding of the link between cell phone usage and brain tumors, and other health conditions, as well. I have no way of knowing whether the 32-year-old maid who claims she was attacked and forced to perform oral sex on IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, is telling the truth or not. I'll leave that to the braying hounds in the media who have already assumed the role of judge, jury and Lord High Executioner. But I will say, the whole matter smells rather fishy, just like the Eliot Spitzer story smelled fishy. Spitzer, you may recall, was Wall Street's biggest adversary and a likely candidate to head the SEC, a position at which he would have excelled. In fact, there's no doubt in my mind that if Spitzer had been appointed to lead the SEC, most of the top investment bankers on Wall Street would presently be making license plates and rope-soled shoes at the federal penitentiary.
So, there was plenty of reason to shadow Spitzer's every move and see what bit of dirt could be dug up on him. As it turns out, the ex-Governor of New York made it easy for his enemies by engaging a high-priced hooker named Ashley Dupre for sex at the Mayflower Hotel. When the news broke, the media descended on Spitzer like a swarm of locusts poring over every salacious detail with the ebullient fervor of a randy 6th-grader. Meanwhile, the crooks on Wall Street were able to breathe a sigh of relief and get back to doing what they do best; fleecing investors and cheating people out of the life savings.
Strauss-Kahn had enemies in high places, too, which is why this whole matter stinks to high-Heaven. First of all, Strauss-Kahn was the likely candidate of the French Socialist Party who would have faced Sarkozy in the upcoming presidential elections. The IMF chief clearly had a leg-up on Sarkozy who has been battered by a number of personal scandals and plunging approval ratings.
But if Strauss-Kahn was set up, then it was probably by members of the western bank coalition, that shadowy group of self-serving swine whose policies have kept the greater body of humanity in varying state of poverty and desperation for the last two centuries. Strauss-Kahn had recently broke-free from the "party line" and was changing the direction of the IMF. His road to Damascus conversion was championed by progressive economist Joesph Stiglitz in a recent article titled "The IMF's Switch in Time". Here's an excerpt:
"The annual spring meeting of the International Monetary Fund was notable in marking the Fund’s effort to distance itself from its own long-standing tenets on capital controls and labor-market flexibility. It appears that a new IMF has gradually, and cautiously, emerged under the leadership of Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
Slightly more than 13 years earlier, at the IMF’s Hong Kong meeting in 1997, the Fund had attempted to amend its charter in order to gain more leeway to push countries towards capital-market liberalization. The timing could not have been worse: the East Asia crisis was just brewing – a crisis that was largely the result of capital-market liberalization in a region that, given its high savings rate, had no need for it.
That push had been advocated by Western financial markets – and the Western finance ministries that serve them so loyally. Financial deregulation in the United States was a prime cause of the global crisis that erupted in 2008, and financial and capital-market liberalization elsewhere helped spread that “made in the USA” trauma around the world....The crisis showed that free and unfettered markets are neither efficient nor stable."
So, Strauss-Kahn was trying to move the bank in a more positive direction, a direction that didn't require that countries leave their economies open to the ravages of foreign capital that moves in swiftly--pushing up prices and creating bubbles--and departs just as fast, leaving behind the scourge of high unemployment, plunging demand, hobbled industries, and deep recession.
Strauss-Kahn had set out on a "kinder and gentler" path, one that would not force foreign leaders to privatize their state-owned industries or crush their labor unions. Naturally, his actions were not warmly received by the bankers and corporatists who look to the IMF to provide legitimacy to their ongoing plunder of the rest of the world. These are the people who think that the current policies are "just fine" because they produce the results they're looking for, which is bigger profits for themselves and deeper poverty for everyone else.
Here's Stiglitz again, this time imparting the "kiss of death" to his friend Strauss-Kahn:
"Strauss-Kahn is proving himself a sagacious leader of the IMF.... As Strauss-Kahn concluded in his speech to the Brookings Institution shortly before the Fund’s recent meeting: “Ultimately, employment and equity are building blocks of economic stability and prosperity, of political stability and peace. This goes to the heart of the IMF’s mandate. It must be placed at the heart of the policy agenda.”
Right. So, now the IMF is going to be an agent for the redistribution of wealth.... (for) "strengthening collective bargaining, restructuring mortgages, restructuring tax and spending policies to stimulate the economy now through long-term investments, and implementing social policies that ensure opportunity for all"? (according to Stiglitz)
Good luck with that.
Can you imagine how much this kind of talk pisses off the Big Money guys? How long do you think they'd put up with this claptrap before they decided that Strauss-Kahn needed to take a permanent vacation?

'Globalization has delivered a lot .?.?. but it also has a dark side, a large and growing chasm between the rich and the poor. Are you kidding me? Read that passage again and I think you'll agree with me that Strauss-Kahn had signed his own death warrant.
There's not going to be any revolution at the IMF. That's baloney. The institution was created with the clear intention of ripping people off and it's done an impressive job in that regard. There's not going to be any change of policy either. Why would there be? Have the bankers and corporate bilge-rats suddenly grown a conscience and decided to lend a helping hand to long-suffering humanity? Get real.
Strauss-Kahn broke ranks and ventured into no man's land. That's why he was set up and then crushed like a bug.

Note from Jean: Through the fog of American propaganda, one fact is appearing with crisp clarity... One would be an utter fool to believe anything claimed by this administration and uncritically parroted by the lamestream media. This overt, blatant lie is going to haunt them forever as the American people with the slightest bit of intelligence will be finally forced to recognize the true evil nature of their government, no matter who is its current figurehead... which is that of a despotic, war-mongering, human rights abusing and global criminal organization bent on imposing its brand of imperial capitalism and invasive military might to the entire world in its bloated psychotic belief in its supremacy as the sole remaining superpower. While the establishment media was busy parroting President Obama’s announcement of Osama bin Laden’s supposed assassination, reporting the unsubstantiated claims as if they were unquestionable facts, much of the so-called “alternative” press was far more cautious — and accurate, it turns out. But more importantly, with the new official storyline indicating that bin Laden was in fact unarmed, bigger and much more important questions are beginning to emerge.
In terms of coverage, it turns out that the skeptical approach proved far superior in terms of getting it right. Countless mainstream sources were so confident in Obama’s word that they reported many of the claims as fact without even attributing them to the President.
But the official White House narrative has been changed so many times in recent days that now it’s almost unrecognizable. There wasn‘t even a fire fight; yet this was one of the crucial elements of the original story that justified the assassination of a person the government painted as the most valuable source of information on the planet — the leader of al-Qaeda. And in reporting the statements as fact, the establishment press has officially been left with egg all over its face again.
"[Bin Laden] was engaged in a firefight with those that entered the area of the house he was in," said terror czar John Brennan. Similarly, Obama said that “after a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body.” The next day, however, the White House spokesman admitted bin Laden “was not armed." Trying to save face and justify the killing of an unarmed man, the spokesman added, without elaborating, that “resistance does not require a firearm."
Originally the White House also suggested top officials watched the raid live through a video feed. Terror czar Brennan, for example, claimed that they “had real-time visibility into the progress of the operation.” CIA boss Leon Panetta later exposed that claim as false in an interview with PBS, saying: “There was a time period of almost 20 or 25 minutes that we really didn't know just exactly what was going on."
That means the “photo op” of Obama and other officials intently “watching” the operation in the “Situation Room” was almost certainly staged for the press. And almost every media outlet that ran the picture used inaccurate captions parroting the White House claims.
And there’s more. The night of the raid, one administration official told reporters that a helicopter was lost due to mechanical failure. During that same briefing, another administration official said, "We didn't say it was mechanical." Now they claim the crash had something to do with the temperature at bin Laden’s supposed compound.
A poorly photo-shopped image of a dead bin Laden embarrassed a large swath of the world press and several Senators, too. Shortly after newspapers and television stations around the globe ran the image, it was exposed as a shoddy forgery that had been circulating for years. Now Obama said he “decided” not to release any pictures — or any other evidence that any element of the story is true, for that matter.
And then there’s the burial issue. The Obama administration originally claimed no country would accept the body; so, it was dumped at sea — Mafia style — in accordance with what Obama alleged were Islamic traditions and customs. When prominent Muslim theological leaders repudiated that lie and noted that it was actually a violation of Islamic tenets to bury Osama bin Laden in the ocean, the new line was that the decision was to avoid the creation of a “shrine.” That lie fell apart, too, when it was widely reported that bin Laden’s brand of Islam calls for unmarked graves — building any sort of shrine would have been blasphemous. So far, no new excuses have been concocted for allegedly feeding the body to the fish.
After the numerous discrepancies and falsehoods in the storyline became painfully obvious, the Associated Press, USA Today, Fox News and other outlets slowly and begrudgingly started to report it. “From the first moments, a good number of the details about bin Laden's killing, on points large and small, have been wrong,” admitted a Fox reporter in one of the more candid acknowledgements to appear in the mainstream press.
But of course, most of the media were also dutifully offering and parroting all manner of excuses. “Fog of war” was to blame for the confusion, claimed the White House spokesman after that excuse was suggested to him by a member of the “press” corps asking a question. Virtually every major news outlet reporting the changes in the official story promptly blamed “fog of war,” too.
An apologist reporter at USA Today wrote that “the administration did its best to get the story quickly,” adding “it's common situation with military action.” The paper quoted a Pentagon spokesperson under the Bush administration to bolster its case.
The AP offered a similar excuse along with the “fog of combat” line offered by the White House. “The contradictions and misstatements reflect the fact that even in the case of a highly successful and popular mission, the confusion inherent in a fast-paced, unpredictable military raid conducted under intense pressure in a foreign country does not lend itself immediately to a tidy story line,” the reporter claimed, citing “some experts.”
Several excuses for the ever-changing story were offered by other publications, too. The possibility that they were deliberate lies or worse was virtually never addressed. But the U.K. Independent noted: “The impression persists that the administration sought to cast the operation in the most heroic light possible, at the expense of the facts.”
Now, the President and his spokespeople and subordinates are refusing to offer more details or explanations. The government has also announced that it will not be releasing pictures or any other evidence to support its claims even as suspicions continue to mount.
But as analysts pointed out, the newly revealed fact that there was no fire fight begs the question about where the “fog” may have come from. And even more importantly: Why, in the absence of a fire fight, would U.S. forces put a bullet through the brain supposedly containing the most valuable intelligence on the planet? What if bin Laden knew where that alleged nuclear bomb in Europe was located that was set to detonate after his capture or death? None of those questions have been addressed so far.
But prominent critics are sounding the alarm. “When such a foundational story as the demise of bin Laden cannot last 48 hours without acknowledged ‘discrepancies’ that require fundamental alternations to the story, there are grounds for suspicion in addition to the suspicions arising from the absence of a dead body, from the absence of any evidence that bin Laden was killed in the raid or that a raid even took place,” noted Paul Craig Roberts, a senior official in the former Reagan administration in a piece entitled “The Agendas Behind the bin Laden News Event.”
Roberts raised several important questions, too, as well as some comparisons. “The entire episode could just be another event like the August 4, 1964, Gulf of Tonkin event that never happened but succeeded in launching open warfare against North Vietnam at a huge cost to Americans and Vietnamese and enormous profits to the military/security complex,” he suggested, citing a series of government deceptions that have led to war based on lies and other atrocities.
Roberts suspects there are more lies about the bin Laden narrative than those exposed so far. And he’s certainly not alone. It emerged recently that the man who owned the house next to bin Laden’s supposed compound doesn’t even believe the story either. “To be honest, it’s not true,” he told Al Jazeera.
As the official story continues to be re-written by the administration and those in the media who simply re-package government press releases, critics and skeptics would seem to be justified in wondering what other lies and "fog of war" changes may emerge in the coming weeks and months. And perhaps even more importantly, we might also wonder if there are lies that may never be exposed in their entirety?
The Obama administration and the corporate media are concocting an ever-more elaborate and spectacular theater around the "heroic" murder of the CIA intelligence myth/CIA asset Osama bin Laden. Not content to simply to exploit the 9/11 atrocity for political gain, the administration is heaping new layers of lie and cover-up to the original crime.
The growing cover-up
The desperation is palpable. Just days since the "big announcement", Obama administration officials have already been forced to backpedal, issuing multiple corrections, adding to the confusion over the location of the killing, whether bin Laden was armed or unarmed, whether there was a "fire fight", if an alleged wife was involved, the burial at sea, whether to release "graphic photos", etc. The mainstream corporate media---following approved CIA/White House narratives---is spewing and regurgitating a tidal wave of red herrings that add to the inconsistencies.
Seasoned observers will not be fooled, no matter how many Obama lies, doctored photos, fake footage, lurid new testimonials and CIA pronouncements are pushed forth. As put simply by Paul Craig Roberts:
"As the alleged body has been dumped into the ocean, nothing remains but the word of the US government, which lied about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction and al Qaeda connections, about yellowcake, about Iranian nukes, and, according to thousands of experts, about 9/11. Suddenly the government is telling us the truth about bin Laden's death? If you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I'll let you have for a good price."
The "war on terrorism" is a fabrication, war propaganda that continues to serve as the eternal pretext for global resource war. That 9/11 was a false flag operation---that the official story is a lie and cover-up---has been definitively proven in numerous investigations, such as Mike Ruppert's Crossing the Rubicon, Michel Chossudovsky's America's "War on Terrorism", the work of Paul Thompson, and others.
Osama bin Laden is a product and asset of the CIA. "Al-Qaeda" is a covert operation, a "database" of intelligence legends, exhaustively detailed in the work of Chaim Kupferberg (Part One and Part Two). Pakistan's ISI, a virtual branch of the CIA, was central to 9/11 and a player in subsequent "terror" operations. It is not surprising that Pakistan and the ISI is at the heart of the "death of bin Laden" as well.
The "death of bin Laden" changes nothing about the factual record that indicts (among others) Bush/Cheney, Anglo-American military-intelligence, and elite war/oil interests.
Tragically, none of this matters. The minority of individuals with unscrambled brains is not the target of this imperial charade.
Euphoria, brainwashing, and "imperial mobilization"
To borrow from the lexicon of world planner Zbigniew Brzezinski, 9/11 was a successful attack "on the order of Pearl Harbor" that "united" the American people behind an "imperial mobilization"---the "war on terrorism" for oil. With 9/11, the masses fully supported nearly a decade of war, atrocities, subversion, and unprecedented government criminality.
The militant and unquestioning public embrace of "war on terrorism" lies underscores how that the 9/11 has succeeded beyond the wildest dreams of the Anglo-American war criminals who orchestrated it.
Now Barack Obama, who has spoken incessantly over the years about wanting to "unite" America again "just as it was after 9/11", has been granted his moment to "unite" the masses again, but do an even better job of population control than Bush/Cheney (who, in their clumsiness and hubris, partially "squandered" their "political capital"). The swaggering Obama will "get it right". He is a better actor, the more devious and mendacious corporatist who was selected for this specific purpose.
The 9/11 "shock effect" remains fully potent, as evidenced by the frenzy, euphoria, and stomach-turning jubilation of crowds of Americans joining in celebration orgies over a fictional murder of the fictional Osama bin Laden, a fictional revenge. Even the "intellectuals" and "experts" are treating this charade as if it is real. Corporate media headlines have declared that "the world has changed", and the masses love it.
The post-9/11 era has spawned an entire generation of vicious and ignorant drones, whose moral compass has been shaped by war, lies, violent entertainment, and brainwashing. The future American police state will be built upon this new culture of thuggery. This is "Obama's Animal Farm".
To Obama, this is "what makes America great".
Rescripting reality
In Orwellian fashion, the legend of the death of Bin Laden changes nothing in reality, but turns the mass perception of this reality upside down.
Suddenly, an unpopular Obama and his failing presidency are recast, in true Bush/Cheney fashion, as a heroic---and now successful--- "war president". He is now Obama the 9/11 avenger, protector of the American people, and the great military master.
This burnished new image, which is preposterous as the one given to George W. Bush during his reign of terror, grants Obama his own new "political capital". Two years of flummoxing and failure, wiped out. Attacks from all sides, stopped. Obama has a political weapon to fend off attacks from the right-wing. They can no longer attack Obama for being weak on foreign policy. At the same time, Obama's corporate liberals (who care only about gaining political points on the Republicans) can return to deluding themselves about Obama's populism, appeal and effectiveness, despite two years of absolute failure and purposely broken campaign promises. With one stroke, Obama is being handed the 2012 election.
Suddenly, Obama is not only just as "great" as Bush, but an even "cooler customer", who singlehandedly ordered and carried out a covert operation that Bush/Cheney could not.
(This writer had expected the "I Killed Osama" prize to be granted to Bush/Cheney. Apparently, their handling of Iraq/Afghanistan did not earn them the permission.)
What real objectives will be met with this new propaganda? As noted by Paul Craig Roberts:
"My initial interpretation of the faked bin Laden death was that Obama needed closure of the Afghan war and occupation in order to deal with the US budget deficit. Subsequent statements from Obama regime officials suggest that the agenda might be to give Americans a piece of war victory in order to boost their lagging enthusiasm. The military/security complex will become richer and more powerful, and Americans will be rewarded with vicarious pleasure in victory over enemies."
Just as the Nixon administration declared a false "victory" in aborting the disastrous war in Vietnam, Obama can declare a similar "mission accomplished" with his "Osama Kill". This will allow the administration to redeploying forces from Afghanistan to elsewhere in the region. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other critical oil-related geography remain in US cross-hairs. The new image of Obama the "heroic anti-terrorist" will convince at least some international leaders to cooperate with the administration. The mass resistance to the US-backed regimes in the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia will be at least partially neutered.
The CIA, soon to be under the command of Iraq/Afghanistan war criminal David Petraeus, is also given a new green light to continue their "war on terrorism" atrocities. This massive criminal mafia is viewed as a heroic protector of America.
A redeployment of forces back to the US is long overdue, for the continued buildup of "Obama's Animal Farm" within US borders. The militarization of the US homeland will be ratcheted up, in order to stop domestic unrest, union protests, and popular responses to the continuing collapse of the US economy.
"Al-Qaeda", under new leadership, will be continue to be unleashed. The next phase of the CIA deception is likely to involve the legend of jihadists avenging Osama bin Laden, including, if necessary, "new 9/11s". The so-called Al-Qaeda number two man, Ayman al-Zawahiri, who himself has "died" multiple times, will be the new boogeyman, along with other recently named "operational chiefs" such as Adnan Shukrijumah.
The final atrocity
To add a grotesque and sickening final insult, the swaggering Barack Obama will grandstand at New York's Ground Zero, in a staged celebration of a fictional murder, on the hallowed ground where thousands of people actually died at the hands of the US government and its covert operatives.
Obama even invited George W. Bush to share his "victory lap".
This act of exploitation will dispel all illusions about the criminal nature of this liar who has done Bush/Cheney one better by stooping even lower into the depths of depravity.
The original Big Lie gets its bookend Big Lie.

Obama's quantitative and qualitative expansion of the US war in South Asia means massive numbers of refugees fleeing the destruction of their farms, homes and villages; tens of thousands of civilian deaths, and eradication of entire communities. All of this will be committed by the Obama Administraton in the quest to 'empty the lake (displace entire populations) to catch the fish (armed insurgents and activists)'. Obama's restoration of all of the most notorious Bush Era policies and the appointment of Bush's most brutal commander is based on his total embrace of the ideology of military-driven empire building. Once one believes (as Obama does) that US power and expansion are based on military conquests and counter-insurgency, all other ideological, diplomatic, moral and economic considerations will be subordinated to militarism. By focusing all resources on successful military conquest, scant attention is paid to the costs borne by the people targeted for conquest or to the US treasury and domestic American economy. This has been clear from the start: In the midst of a major recession/depression with millions of Americans losing their employment and homes, President Obama increased the military budget by 4% - taking it beyond $800 billion dollars. Obama's embrace of militarism is obvious from his decision to expand the Afghan war despite NATO's refusal to commit any more combat troops. It is obvious in his appointment of the most hard-line and notorious Special Forces General from the Bush-Cheney era to head the military command in subduing Afghanistan and the frontier areas of Pakistan. It is just as George Orwell described in Animal Farm: The Democratic Pigs are now pursuing the same brutal, military policies of their predecessors, the Republican Porkers, only now it is in the name of the people and peace. Orwell might paraphrase the policy of President Barack Obama, as 'Bigger and bloodier wars equal peace and justice'.
In a propaganda piece reeking of US Triumphalism, two alleged journalists, Adam Goldman and Chris Brummitt, of the Associated Press or, rather, of the White House Ministry of Truth, write, or copy off a White House or CIA press release that "Osama bin Laden, the terror mastermind killed by Navy SEALs in an intense firefight, was hunted down based on information first gleaned years ago (emphasis added) from detainees at secret CIA prison sites in Eastern Europe, officials disclosed Monday."
How many Americans will notice that the first paragraph of the "report" justifies CIA prisons and torture? Without secret prisons and torture "the terror mastermind" would still be running free, despite having died from renal failure in 2001.
How many Americans will have the wits to wonder why the "terror mastermind"--who defeated not merely the CIA and the FBI, but all 16 US intelligence agencies along with Israel's Mossad and the intelligence services of NATO, who defeated NORAD, the National Security Council, the Pentagon and Joint Chiefs of Staff, the US Air Force, and Air Traffic Control, who caused security procedures to fail four times in US airports in one hour on the same day, who caused the state-of-the-art Pentagon air defenses to fail, and who managed to fly three airliners into three buildings with pilots who did not know how to fly--has not pulled off any other attack in almost ten years? Do Americans really believe that a government's security system that can so totally fail when confronted with a few Saudi Arabians with box cutters can renew itself to perfection overnight?
How many Americans will notice the resurrection of the long missing bin Laden as "terror mastermind" after his displacement by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the Guantanamo prisoner who confessed to being the "mastermind of 9/11" after being water-boarded 183 times?
Americans are too busy celebrating to think, a capability that seems to have been taken out of their education.
Americans are so enthralled over the death of bin Laden that they do not wonder why information gleamed years ago would take so long to locate a person who was allegedly living in a million-dollar building equipped with all the latest communication equipment next to the Pakistani Military Academy. Allegedly, the "most wanted criminal" was not moving from hide-out to hide-out in desolate mountains, but ensconced in luxury quarters in broad daylight. Nevertheless, despite his obvious location, it took the CIA years to find him after claiming to have gained information of his whereabouts out of captives in secret prisons. This is the image of the CIA as the new Keystone Cops.
In an immediate follow-up to the announcement that the Navy SEALs and CIA mercenaries acted in an exemplary fashion following the rules of engagement while a cowardly bin Laden hid behind a woman shield when the gunfire erupted, we have from the pressitutes that "U.S. officials conceded the risk of renewed attack. The terrorists almost certainly will attempt to avenge bin Laden's death, CIA Director Leon Panetta wrote in a memo. . . . Within a few hours, the Department of Homeland Security warned that bin Laden's death was likely to provide motivation for attacks from 'homegrown violent extremists'."
John Brennan, White House counter-terrorism adviser, told reporters that "it was inconceivable that the terrorist fugitive didn't have support in Pakistan where his hideout had been custom built six years ago in a city with a heavy military presence."
So the claimed murder of bin Laden by the US in a sovereign foreign country with which the US is not at war, a crime under international law, has set up three more self-serving possibilities:
-Terrorists will avenge bin Laden's death, says the CIA, setting up another false flag attack to keep the profits flowing into the military/security complex and the power flowing into the unaccountable CIA.
-Homeland Security can extend the domestic police state, abuse of travelers, and arrests of war protestors.
-And Pakistan is under the gun of invasion and takeover (for India, of course) for shielding bin Laden.
The Israel Lobby's representatives in the US Congress quickly fell in with the agenda. Senator Carl Levin, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, declared that the Pakistani Army and intelligence agency "have a lot of questions to answer, given the location, the length of time and the apparent fact that this was actually--this facility was actually build for bin Laden, and its closeness to the central location of the Pakistani army."
The two reporters question nothing in the government's propaganda. Instead, the reporters join in the celebration. Nevertheless they let slip that "officials were weighing the release of at least one photo taken of bin Laden's body as part of what Brennan called an effort to make sure 'nobody has any basis to try and deny the death.'"

With loving greetings from all souls at this station, this is Matthew. So long ago as to be incalculable in linear time, humankind's cellular make-up was crystalline and had as many as 24 DNA strands. Through the ages the dark ones manipulated that genetic make-up in some populations by reducing the light within cells until they were carbon and had only two strands of DNA. The dark ones succeeded in producing civilizations with weakened immune systems susceptible to all kinds of diseases, a greatly shortened lifespan, total loss of spiritual clarity, and severely limited brain capacity. That vast diminishment in health, longevity, spiritual awareness and intelligence has long been the lot of people in third density worlds.
All of this is known to souls living in spirit, so why would any choose to be born into a third density civilization time and time and time again? They do so because in other incarnations they succumbed to rather than surmounted the rampant fear, ignorance, deception and warring that are the cornerstones of dark control. Each time they choose to complete third density karmic lessons in roles agreed upon with all others who want to share the lifetime so all can achieve balanced experiencing and start back up the ladder spiritually and intellectually. Each time the souls are convinced that this time in personage they will retain the light with which all infants come.
However, time and again their determination to successfully maneuver through a world where darkness flourishes became mired in the actuality of living in those low density conditions. Thus for millennia Earth's residents unwittingly have been captives of the lies perpetrated and perpetuated by on-planet puppets of the dark forces. Always a few persons did heed messages from soul level and spoke the truth, but their voices were cut short or their information was distorted, and deception and the massive negativity issued from it continued to reign.
About seven decades past in your timing, Earth cried out for help to end that destructive cycle. In response, the highest universal council created the master plan for her transition out of third density and the return to fifth, where Earth's soul originated and remained even as the accumulating negativity caused her body to spiral downward. The plan included the joint efforts of evolved beings from other civilizations with selected persons on Earth and a timetable for the planet to be out of third density, the end of your year 2012. Even though time—which in reality is the prevailing energy frequency—is passing more quickly by the day, Earth's timely arrival at the threshold of what was named her Golden Age is certain.
This is not the case for her residents who still are inured to believing and acting in accordance with whatever is told them repeatedly by „authorities.‰ The numbers of those who are light-receptive are increasing; however, through ignorance of truths, many others are still „in the dark.‰ In her love for all of her residents, Earth wants every one to accompany her into fourth density, but to do so, they must accept the light that will enable their physical survival in the higher frequencies that the planet is fast approaching.
On and off-planet members in the vanguard of the light forces, who know that a great deal must be accomplished rapidly, agreed that it must begin with the emergence of truths so the peoples will demand the changes that have been formulated to achieve a transformed and peaceful world. The members agreed that no time can be wasted in disclosing the truths that the Illuminati have kept hidden by assassinating knowledgeable persons or ridiculing them into professional oblivion and labeling anyone who believes them a "conspiracy theorist."
The members also agreed that something dramatic was required to get the peoples‚ attention; however, because it is your world, it was up to your leaders to decide what that would be. Announcing that members of other civilizations are among you required resolving myriad details before it could be properly presented, and the suggestion that all truths be told straightforwardly was vetoed because there was no agreement as to which should be revealed first—in essence, which finger should be pulled out of the dike. Some felt that would best be achieved by announcing the death of Osama bin Laden, the officially accused mastermind of "9/11." They felt that announcement could be veered into exposing the truth about the horrific events of that day almost ten years ago, and it would eliminate fear in the people who believe what they so often have been told: No one is safe as long as bin Laden is alive.
Only when that suggestion was raised did some in the group, including US President Obama, know for certain that the man had been dead for almost a decade, and those few vehemently denounced the suggestion. But since no one had any other idea that would get the attention of the world, the majority voted to "kill bin Laden" and later publicly explain why that story was released.
It can be argued that deception to achieve a positive goal is "better" than deception to embark upon a negative goal. It is not our desire or our purpose to judge the decision, much less judge those who made it, but only to relate the information given us by Earth's monitors in Nirvana. They do not know how the explanation for the decision will come because the responsible parties are still discussing strategies for the next steps.
Regardless of how this plays out, by the end of next year, the light will have vanquished all darkness on Earth—this has been assured from the beginning of her ascension. You can best serve in your capacity as lightworkers by neither condoning nor condemning the bin Laden story, but rather by adding your light to its intention—to speed disclosure of all truths so reforms also can come swiftly. And for those leaders who know the greater urgency, the intention is for all persons to have the opportunity to embrace the light within truth before it is too late for them to physically go along with Earth if they chose that journey in their soul contracts.
Today is Mother's Day in many countries around your world. We join you in honoring these souls who agreed to accept the most demanding of lifelong responsibilities.

Why is the Federal Reserve forking over $220 million in bailout money to the wives of two Morgan Stanley bigwigs?

America has two national budgets, one official, one unofficial. The official budget is public record and hotly debated: Money comes in as taxes and goes out as jet fighters, DEA agents, wheat subsidies and Medicare, plus pensions and bennies for that great untamed socialist menace called a unionized public-sector workforce that Republicans are always complaining about. According to popular legend, we're broke and in so much debt that 40 years from now our granddaughters will still be hooking on weekends to pay the medical bills of this year's retirees from the IRS, the SEC and the Department of Energy.
Why Isn't Wall Street in Jail?
Most Americans know about that budget. What they don't know is that there is another budget of roughly equal heft, traditionally maintained in complete secrecy. After the financial crash of 2008, it grew to monstrous dimensions, as the government attempted to unfreeze the credit markets by handing out trillions to banks and hedge funds. And thanks to a whole galaxy of obscure, acronym-laden bailout programs, it eventually rivaled the "official" budget in size — a huge roaring river of cash flowing out of the Federal Reserve to destinations neither chosen by the president nor reviewed by Congress, but instead handed out by fiat by unelected Fed officials using a seemingly nonsensical and apparently unknowable methodology.

Now, following an act of Congress that has forced the Fed to open its books from the bailout era, this unofficial budget is for the first time becoming at least partially a matter of public record. Staffers in the Senate and the House, whose queries about Fed spending have been rebuffed for nearly a century, are now poring over 21,000 transactions and discovering a host of outrages and lunacies in the "other" budget. It is as though someone sat down and made a list of every individual on earth who actually did not need emergency financial assistance from the United States government, and then handed them the keys to the public treasure. The Fed sent billions in bailout aid to banks in places like Mexico, Bahrain and Bavaria, billions more to a spate of Japanese car companies, more than $2 trillion in loans each to Citigroup and Morgan Stanley, and billions more to a string of lesser millionaires and billionaires with Cayman Islands addresses. "Our jaws are literally dropping as we're reading this," says Warren Gunnels, an aide to Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont. "Every one of these transactions is outrageous."
Wall Street's Big Win
But if you want to get a true sense of what the "shadow budget" is all about, all you have to do is look closely at the taxpayer money handed over to a single company that goes by a seemingly innocuous name: Waterfall TALF Opportunity. At first glance, Waterfall's haul doesn't seem all that huge — just nine loans totaling some $220 million, made through a Fed bailout program. That doesn't seem like a whole lot, considering that Goldman Sachs alone received roughly $800 billion in loans from the Fed. But upon closer inspection, Waterfall TALF Opportunity boasts a couple of interesting names among its chief investors: Christy Mack and Susan Karches.
Christy is the wife of John Mack, the chairman of Morgan Stanley. Susan is the widow of Peter Karches, a close friend of the Macks who served as president of Morgan Stanley's investment-banking division. Neither woman appears to have any serious history in business, apart from a few philanthropic experiences. Yet the Federal Reserve handed them both low-interest loans of nearly a quarter of a billion dollars through a complicated bailout program that virtually guaranteed them millions in risk-free income.

The technical name of the program that Mack and Karches took advantage of is TALF, short for Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility. But the federal aid they received actually falls under a broader category of bailout initiatives, designed and perfected by Federal Reserve chief Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, called "giving already stinking rich people gobs of money for no fucking reason at all." If you want to learn how the shadow budget works, follow along. This is what welfare for the rich looks like.
The impetus for this sudden manic expansion of the bailouts was a masterful bluff by Wall Street executives. Once the money started flowing from the Federal Reserve, the executives began moaning to their buddies at the Fed, claiming that they were suddenly afraid of investing in anything — student loans, car notes, you name it — unless their profits were guaranteed by the state. "You ever watch soccer, where the guy rolls six times to get a yellow card?" says William Black, a former federal bank regulator who teaches economics and law at the University of Missouri. "That's what this is. If you have power and connections, they will give you a freebie deal — if you're good at whining."
This is where TALF fits into the bailout picture. Created just after Barack Obama's election in November 2008, the program's ostensible justification was to spur more consumer lending, which had dried up in the midst of the financial crisis. But instead of lending directly to car buyers and credit-card holders and students — that would have been socialism! — the Fed handed out a trillion dollars to banks and hedge funds, almost interest-free. In other words, the government lent taxpayer money to the same assholes who caused the crisis, so that they could then lend that money back out on the market virtually risk-free, at an enormous profit.
Cue your Billy Mays voice, because wait, there's more! A key aspect of TALF is that the Fed doles out the money through what are known as non-recourse loans. Essentially, this means that if you don't pay the Fed back, it's no big deal. The mechanism works like this: Hedge Fund Goon borrows, say, $100 million from the Fed to buy crappy loans, which are then transferred to the Fed as collateral. If Hedge Fund Goon decides not to repay that $100 million, the Fed simply keeps its pile of crappy securities and calls everything even.
This is the deal of a lifetime. Think about it: You borrow millions, buy a bunch of crap securities and stash them on the Fed's books. If the securities lose money, you leave them on the Fed's lap and the public eats the loss. But if they make money, you take them back, cash them in and repay the funds you borrowed from the Fed. "Remember that crazy guy in the commercials who ran around covered in dollar bills shouting, 'The government is giving out free money!' " says Black. "As crazy as he was, this is making it real."
This whole setup — in which millionaires and billionaires gambled on mountains of dangerous securities, with taxpayers providing the stake and assuming almost all of the risk — is the reason that it's insanely premature for Wall Street to claim that the bailouts have actually made money for the government. We simply can't make that determination until the final bill comes in on all the dicey securities we financed during the bailout feeding frenzy.
In early April, in an attempt to learn exactly how much Mack and Karches made on the TALF deals, Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa wrote a letter to Waterfall asking 21 detailed questions about the transactions. In addition, Sen. Sanders has personally asked Fed chief Bernanke to provide more complete information on the TALF loans given not only to Christy Mack but to gazillionaires like former Miami Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga and hedge-fund shark John Paulson. But Bernanke bluntly refused to provide the information — and the Fed has similarly stonewalled other oversight agencies, including the General Accounting Office and TARP's special inspector general.
Christy Mack and Susan Karches did not respond to requests for comments for this story. But even without more information about the loans they got from the Fed, we know that TALF wasn't the only risk-free money being handed over to Wall Street. During the financial crisis, the Fed routinely made billions of dollars in "emergency" loans to big banks at near-zero interest. Many of the banks then turned around and used the money to buy Treasury bonds at higher interest rates — essentially loaning the money back to the government at an inflated rate. "People talk about how these were loans that were paid back," says a congressional aide who has studied the transactions. "But when the state is lending money at zero percent and the banks are turning around and lending that money back to the state at three percent, how is that different from just handing rich people money?"
Those kinds of deals were the essence of the bailout — and the vast mountains of near-zero government cash turned companies facing bankruptcy into monstrous profit machines. In 2008 and 2009, while Christy Mack was busy getting her little TALF loans for $220 million, her husband's bank hauled in $2 trillion in emergency Fed loans. During the same period, Goldman borrowed nearly $800 billion. Shortly afterward, the two banks reported a combined annual profit of $14.5 billion.
As crazy as it is to lend to banks at near zero percent and borrow back from them at three percent, one could at least argue that the policy may have aided American companies by providing banks more cash to lend. But how do you explain the host of other bailout transactions now being examined by Congress? Like the Fed's massive purchases of securities in foreign automakers, including BMW, Volkswagen, Honda, Mitsubishi and Nissan? Or the nearly $5 billion in cheap credit the Fed extended to Toyota and Mitsubishi? Sure, those companies have factories and dealerships in the U.S. — but does it really make sense to give them free cash at the same time taxpayers were being asked to bail out Chrysler and GM? Seems a little crazy to fund the competition of the very automakers you're trying to rescue.
And then there are the bailout deals that make no sense at all. Republicans go mad over spending on health care and school for Mexican illegals. So why aren't they flipping out over the $9.6 billion in loans the Fed made to the Central Bank of Mexico? How do we explain the $2.2 billion in loans that went to the Korea Development Bank, the biggest state bank of South Korea, whose sole purpose is to promote development in South Korea? And at a time when America is borrowing from the Middle East at interest rates of three percent, why did the Fed extend $35 billion in loans to the Arab Banking Corporation of Bahrain at interest rates as low as one quarter of one point?
Even more disturbing, the major stakeholder in the Bahrain bank is none other than the Central Bank of Libya, which owns 59 percent of the operation. In fact, the Bahrain bank just received a special exemption from the U.S. Treasury to prevent its assets from being frozen in accord with economic sanctions. That's right: Muammar Qaddafi received more than 70 loans from the Federal Reserve, along with the Real Housewives of Wall Street.
Perhaps the most irritating facet of all of these transactions is the fact that hundreds of millions of Fed dollars were given out to hedge funds and other investors with addresses in the Cayman Islands. Many of those addresses belong to companies with American affiliations — including prominent Wall Street names like Pimco, Blackstone and . . . Christy Mack. Yes, even Waterfall TALF Opportunity is an offshore company. It's one thing for the federal government to look the other way when Wall Street hotshots evade U.S. taxes by registering their investment companies in the Cayman Islands. But subsidizing tax evasion? Giving it a federal bailout? What the fuck?
As America girds itself for another round of lunatic political infighting over which barely-respirating social program or urgently necessary federal agency must have their budgets permanently sacrificed to the cause of billionaires being able to keep their third boats in the water, it's important to point out just how scarce money isn't in certain corners of the public-spending universe. In the coming months, when you watch Republican congressional stooges play out the desperate comedy of solving America's deficit problems by making fewer photocopies of proposed bills, or by taking an ax to budgetary shrubberies like NPR or the SEC, remember Christy Mack and her fancy new carriage house. There is no belt-tightening on the other side of the tracks. Just a free lunch that never ends.

Bush court dismisses 9/11 suit against Bush officials, orders sanctions
Rather than judicially review significant evidence in the events of September 11, 2001, on April 27, the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court's dismissal of an Army Specialist's complaint against former Vice President Dick Cheney, former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Richard Myers.
One of Plaintiff April Gallop's attorneys, William Veale, didn't know whether to relate the decision to "Kafka, Orwell, Carroll, or Huxley," referring to the absurdity and dearth of reason emanating from the court regarding the deadliest attack on U.S. soil the nation has ever faced.
"The Court's decision, analogous to reviewing an Indictment in a liquor store hold-up without mentioning the guy walking in with a gun, refuses to acknowledge even the existence of the three defendants much less what they were doing that morning or saying about it afterwards," Veale added.
Of the three judges on the panel, John Mercer Walker, Jr. is first cousin of former President George H.W. Bush and first cousin once removed of George W. Bush, who used 9/11 to manipulate public emotion to support passage of the unconstitutional PATRIOT Acts and waging illegal wars of aggression in the Middle East. According to Wikipedia, Walker shares a grandfather with the 41st president, George Herbert Walker, whose daughter married Prescott Bush. A motion to force Judge Walker's removal from the case was denied, despite a clear conflict of interest.
The lawsuit, prepared by the Center for 9/11 Justice, accuses the defendants of conspiring to facilitate the terrorist attacks of 9/11 that killed 3000 Americans and which has resulted in the deaths of many more, due to the toxicity of the clean-up conditions at Ground Zero. The plaintiff and her son were both injured in the attack on the Pentagon, multiple videos of which the government has refused to release to the public.
Ignoring crucial evidence like the total collapse of WTC7 though not hit by a plane on September 11, the whereabouts of and statements made by the Defendants on 9/11, and the presence of thermitic material in the rubble of the Twin Towers, the court ludicrously affirmed the lower court's finding that the case was "not plausible" and "the product of cynical delusion and fantasy."
Additionally, the court filed an Order to Show Cause for Sanctions amounting to $15,000 for filing a "frivolous" suit, which the Center for 9/11 Justice plans to appeal.
The bravery of April Gallop in her attempt to expose the truth is as laudable as the obvious official corruption is contemptible. An unbiased judicial review of the events surrounding 9/11 will not be found in the United States. But refusal to do so only heightens global suspicion. The conspiracy and cover-up was so poorly executed that the vast majority of the planet's population doubts the official version of events.

Imperial interventions in civil wars have a devastating effect on countries that last for decades and affect the entire economy and society. One indicator of the long-term consequences of imperial military intervention is the tremendous increase of violent crime, the multiplication of gangs, homicides and general insecurity in Central America. Violence increased far beyond what existed prior to imperial wars in such countries as Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia. In the period prior to imperial intervention in Central America, during times of revolutionary ferment, high levels of social organization via inclusive social movements, channeled discontent into political and social channels.
Revolutionary movements organized armed resistance against specifics targets; repressive police, military and death squad militias. Imperial intervention included military advisers and counter-insurgency strategies which uprooted peasants via scorched earth policies and destroyed communities. Assaults on urban barrios led to the break-up of family and neighborhood networks. The social bonds which integrate people into a moral and social community were ruptured: the goal of imperial planners is to decimate any independent popular civil-society organization as a political threat to its illegitimate collaborator regime.
In El Salvador, the US provided over $300 million a year in arms and training for almost a decade. The Pentagon through its advisory missions, in collaboration with local landlords and generals, financed and forcibly recruited thousands of peasants into death squad 'civilian militias' to assassinate local movement activists and terrorize farm workers'movements and trade union organizations. Under imperial military pressure the leaders of the major Central American guerrilla organizations signed on to a peace agreement.
The "peace accords" retained the US collaborator regimes in power and the promised social reforms were never implemented. As a result, the homicide rate skyrocketed. The discharged guerrilla militants and unemployed right wing militia members, armed and trained, and with no future, became the bases for gangs, drug and people traffickers, kidnappers and extortionists. The number of people who were annually killed in violent crime (1991-2011) exceeded the number who died each year during the revolutionary struggle (1979-1990). Having successfully blocked the prospects of positive socio-economic transformations in wealth, land ownership, the judicial system and allocation of public investments, the US pushed for neo-liberal 'free trade agreements' which further decimated small farmers and retail commerce. Mass outmigration and crime became the 'roads out of poverty' in the aftermath of imperial intervention. Violent crime became so pervasive that the business elites of the US and Central America were hesitant to invest and profit from the low wages and the unemployed who crowded the labor market. The cost of hiring private security armies to protect upscale neighborhoods, business operations, country clubs, and exclusive restaurant and leisure centers became prohibitive.
Faced with the "unfavorable climate for business" created by the very same pro-business Pentagon intervention, after two decades of murder and mayhem, the World Bank intervened. The World Development Report (WDR) for 2010 (published in 2011) focuses on the theme of "conflict, security and development". The Report proposed a series of measures to lessen what it calls "mass violence". The Report was taken up and elaborated in the Financial Times (4/27/11 p. 9) by Martin Wolf in an article titled "Remove the scourge of conflict". The Report and Wolf provide time series data between 1999-2009 showing the vertical growth of "criminal violence after civil wars"; time series data show that countries with high poverty rates based on the (percent of population with income below $1.25 per day) have experienced greater violence than those with low poverty rate; time series data show that greater 'violence' reduced real GDP growth.
Both the WB Report and the Financial Times fail to identify the true nature of the 'violent conflict', the principle source of violence and the foreign and domestic elite economic policies which deepen and prolong 'violence'.
In the case of Central America, particularly El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras, the WB and Financial Times resort to vacuous generalization to avoid discussing the massive military role of US imperialism in promoting large scale, long term violence in the countries. Instead the FT strikes a phony philosophical note "man is a violent animal" (Alas). In fact imperialist rulers are violent animals; especially with regard to poor countries attempting to free themselves of US backed oligarchies. To their discredit the WB and FT obfuscate the data by claiming that the deaths were a product of "civil wars".
Throughout the 1970's and 1980's the US and Israel provided arms, advisers, technical capacity to the murderous Guatemalan regime which slaughtered over 300,000; mostly Indians and wiped off the map over 420 villages. During the US decade long proxy war against the progressive Sandinista revolutionary movement via the Somoza dictatorship (1969-78) and the decade long Contra terror war against the Sandinista government (1979-89), over 50,000 people were killed, hundreds of thousands maimed and displaced and productive farms, factories, infrastructure, clinics and schools and co-operatives were targeted by US counter-insurgency advisers.
As mentioned earlier, El Salvador's social movements and their supporters throughout civil society were targeted by US backed military and paramilitary groups forcing hundreds of thousands to flee to urban squatter settlements or across borders and overseas. Similar outcomes occurred during the US counter-insurgency campaign in Honduras and invasions of Grenada and Panama in the 1980's.
Imperial backed invasions, counter-insurgency campaigns and the subsequent imposition of corrupt oligarchs led to the total disarticulation of local social networks and the bankruptcy of small scale farms because of the importation of subsidized US foodstuffs. These led to the presence of a deadly combination: thousands of automatic rifles, tens of thousands of unemployed displaced rural youth living in urban slums and an economy geared to enriching elite importers, exporters and US bankers and creditors. The WB Report in all of 301 pages and numerous tables does not contain a single phrase about the nature, consequences and the profound and lasting impact of imperial intervention on the out of control homicide rates in Central America or elsewhere. Instead we are told it's all about a "civil war".
The mendacious cover-up proceeds to the current decade. The WB Report and the FT sound an optimistic note claiming that annual battle deaths have "fallen to 42,000 in the 2000's". First, calling the US-NATO invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan a "civil war" is a travesty to common knowledge; and then falsifying the over 1 million Iraqi deaths into a few thousand, flies in the face of independent surveys published in the prestigious British medical journal the Lancet.
What is striking about the imperialist interventions and most relevant to the growth of violent crime, is the fact that the subsequent client rulers, are themselves deeply enmeshed in international criminal networks. Drug dealing and large scale theft of billions in aid funds and public revenues is the hallmark of Central American clients who are most intimately tied to Washington. The same is true in Iraq and Afghanistan: tribal clans and ethnic gangs who pledged allegiance to the US occupiers run billion dollar heroin enterprises. They murder civil society activists and undermine the bases of community based organizations.
On May 4, 2011, CNN World News asked whether killing Osama bin Laden was legal under international law. Other news commentaries have questioned whether it would have been both possible and advantageous to bring Osama bin Laden to trial rather than kill him.
World attention has been focused, however briefly, on questions of legality regarding the killing of Osama bin Laden. But with the increasing use of Predator drones to kill suspected “high-value targets” in Pakistan and Afghanistan, extrajudicial killings by U.S. military forces have become the new norm.
Just three days after Osama bin Laden was killed, an attack employing remote-control aerial drones killed 15 people in Pakistan and wounded four. CNN reports that its Islamabad bureau has counted four drone strikes over the last month and a half since the March 17 drone attack that killed 44 people in Pakistan’s tribal region. This most recent suspected strike was the 21st this year. There were 111 strikes in 2010. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan estimated that 957 innocent civilians were killed in 2010.
I’m reminded of an encounter I had in May 2010, when a journalist and a social worker from North Waziristan met with a small Voices for Creative Nonviolence delegation in Pakistan and described, in gory and graphic detail, the scenes of drone attacks that they had personally witnessed: the carbonized bodies, burned so fully they could be identified by legs and hands alone; the bystanders sent flying like dolls through the air to break, with shattered bones and sometimes-fatal brain injuries, upon walls and stone.
“Do Americans know about the drones?” the journalist asked me. I said I thought that awareness was growing on university campuses and among peace groups. “This isn’t what I’m asking,” he politely insisted. “What I want to know is if average Americans know that their country is attacking Pakistan with drones that carry bombs. Do they know this?”
“Truthfully,” I said, “I don’t think so.”
“Where is your democracy?” he asked me. “Where is your democracy?”
Ideally, in a democracy, people are educated about important matters, and they can influence decisions about these issues by voting for people who represent their point of view.
Only a handful of U.S. officials have broached the issue of whether or not it is right for the U.S. to use unmanned aerial vehicles to function as prosecutor, judge, jury, and executioner in the decision to assassinate anyone designated as a “high-value target” in faraway Pakistan or Afghanistan.
Would we want unmanned aerial vehicles piloted by another country to fly over the U.S., targeting individuals deemed to be a threat to the safety of their people, firing Hellfire missiles or dropping 500-pound bombs over suspected “high- value targets” on the hunch of a soldier or general without evidence and without any consideration of innocent civilians?
Fully informed citizens might be invited to consider the Golden Rule of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” but they would certainly be involved in the debate over how we will be treated in future years and decades when these weapons have proliferated. In 1945, only one country possessed the atomic bomb, but within decades, the “nuclear club” had expanded to five declared and four undeclared nuclear-armed states in a much less certain world. Besides increasing the risk of nuclear war, this proliferation has consumed resources that could have been directed toward feeding a hungry world or eradicating disease or easing the effects of impoverishment.
As of now, worldwide, 49 companies make 450 different drone aircraft. Drone merchants expect that drone sales will earn $20.2 billion over the next 10 years for aerospace war manufacturers. Who knows? One day, drone missiles may be aimed at us.
Also worth noting is the observation that drones will make it politically convenient for any country to order military actions without risking their soldiers’ lives, thereby making it easier, and more tempting, to start wars that may eventually escalate to result in massive loss of life, both military and civilian.

In October and again in December 2010, while in Afghanistan, I met with a large family living in a wretched refugee camp. They had fled their homes in the San Gin district of the Helmand province after a drone attack killed a mother there and her five children. The woman’s husband showed us photos of his children’s bloodied corpses. His niece, Juma Gul, age 9, had survived the attack. She and I huddled next to each other inside a hut made of mud on a chilly December morning. Juma Gul’s father stooped in front of us and gently unzipped her jacket, showing me that his daughter’s arm had been amputated by shrapnel when the U.S. missile hit their home in San Gin.
Next to Juma Gul was her brother, whose leg had been mangled in the attack. He apparently has no access to adequate medical care and experiences constant pain.
It’s impossible to conjecture what would have happened had Osama bin Laden been apprehended and brought to appear before a court of law, charged with crimes against humanity because of his alleged role in masterminding the 9/11 attacks. But I feel certain beyond doubt that Juma Gul posed no threat whatsoever to the U.S., and if she were brought before a court of law and witnesses were helped to understand that she was attacked by a U.S. unmanned aerial vehicle for no reason other than that she happened to live in proximity to a potential high-value target, she would be cleared of any suspicion that she committed a crime. The same might not be true for those who attacked her.

For months mounting fear has driven researchers to wring their hands over the approaching solar storms. Some have predicted devastating solar tsunamis that could wipe away our advanced technology, others voiced dire warnings that violent explosions on the surface of the sun could reach out to Earth, breach our magnetic field, and expose billions to high intensity X-rays and other deadly forms of cancer-causing radiation.
Now evidence has surfaced that something potentially more dangerous is happening deep within the hidden core of our life-giving star: never-before-seen particles-or some mysterious force-is being shot out from the sun and it's hitting Earth.
Whatever it is, the evidence suggests it's affecting all matter.
Strange and unknown
Alarmed physicists first became aware of this threat over the past several years. Initially dismissed as an anomaly, now frantic scientists are shooting e-mails back and forth to colleagues across the world attempting to grasp exactly what is happening to the sun.
Something impossible has happened. Yet the "impossible" has been proven to be true. Laboratories around the globe have confirmed that the rate of radioactive decay-once thought to be a constant and a bedrock of science-is no longer a constant. Something being emitted from the sun is interacting with matter in strange and unknown ways with the startling potential to dramatically change the nature of the very Earth itself.
Exactly what has scientists so on edge is the fact that the natural rate of decay of atomic particles has always been predictable. Indeed, using the decay rate of Carbon-14 has been a method to date archeological artifacts. The process, known as carbon dating, measures the quantity of Carbon-14 within organic objects. According to the numbers, Carbon-14 has a specific half-life of 5,730 years. Physicists have proven through exhaustive observation and experimentation over the course of a century that it takes 5,730 years for Carbon-14 atoms to decay into a stable Nitrogen-14.
The values don't change-or at least they never have in the past. With certain evidence that radioactive decay can be significantly affected by an unknown effect from the sun, much of science is turned on its head.
Rate of decay speeding up
Worst of all, if the decay rates of matter are being mutated then all matter on Earth is being affected including the matter that makes up life.
The mutation may go so far as to change the underlying reality of the quantum universe-and by extrapolation-the nature of life, the principles of physics, perhaps even the uniform flow of time.
In fact, some evidence of time dilation has been gleaned from close observation of the decay rate. If particles interacting with the matter are not the cause-and matter is being affected by a new force of nature-then time itself may be speeding up and there's no way to stop it.
Neutrinos the cause?
Researchers have correlated the anomalies in the decay rate to a 33-day period. That time frame matches the 33-day rotation of the solar core. Such a match strains credulity as being a mere coincidence.
Since the sun's core is known to blast out continuous streams of particles called neutrinos, some scientists are attempting to find evidence that neutrinos are the culprits behind the mutation of matter.
There's a problem with that hypothesis, however, as neutrinos are like ghost particles. They're extremely difficult to detect. Normally, neutrinos pass through the Earth without any interaction at all. To a neutrino, it's as if the Earth doesn't exist.
Other than discovering a previously unknown property of neutrinos, or finding a new particle altogether, the possibility exists that no particle is behind the changes recorded in the radioactive decay rates. What could be causing the phenomenon is a previously unknown force.
Unknown dangers
As the sun builds towards solar maximum and a period of dangerous intensity never experienced by any living person inexorably approaches, strange, uncontrollable forces could be building deep within its fiery nuclear furnace.
It's already been proven that the sun's mass warps time, bends light waves and accounts for mutation of species on Earth. Now this new force may be directly interacting with matter in a way that could not only change Mankind's understanding of physics, but change Mankind itself…and not necessarily in a beneficial way.
Yes, the e-mails will continue to fly and the hands will continue to wring. But in the end, we are all just observers.
Whether the phenomenon has no real impact on humanity, or the worst impact imaginable, nothing can be done to stop it. Once again, the titanic forces of nature rear up to overwhelm our technology-and we find ourselves like the playthings of gods.

When researchers found an unusual linkage between solar flares and the inner life of radioactive elements on Earth, it touched off a scientific detective investigation that could end up protecting the lives of space-walking astronauts and maybe rewriting some of the assumptions of physics. -- It's a mystery that presented itself unexpectedly: The radioactive decay of some elements sitting quietly in laboratories on Earth seemed to be influenced by activities inside the sun, 93 million miles away.Is this possible?Researchers from Stanford and Purdue University believe it is. But their explanation of how it happens opens the door to yet another mystery. There is even an outside chance that this unexpected effect is brought about by a previously unknown particle emitted by the sun.
(...) On Dec 13, 2006, the sun itself provided a crucial clue, when a solar flare sent a stream of particles and radiation toward Earth. Purdue nuclear engineer Jere Jenkins, while measuring the decay rate of manganese-54, a short-lived isotope used in medical diagnostics, noticed that the rate dropped slightly during the flare, a decrease that started about a day and a half before the flare.If this apparent relationship between flares and decay rates proves true, it could lead to a method of predicting solar flares prior to their occurrence, which could help prevent damage to satellites and electric grids, as well as save the lives of astronauts in space. The decay-rate aberrations that Jenkins noticed occurred during the middle of the night in Indiana - meaning that something produced by the sun had traveled all the way through the Earth to reach Jenkins' detectors. What could the flare send forth that could have such an effect? Jenkins and Fischbach guessed that the culprits in this bit of decay-rate mischief were probably solar neutrinos, the almost weightless particles famous for flying at almost the speed of light through the physical world - humans, rocks, oceans or planets - with virtually no interaction with anything.
(...) Going back to take another look at the decay data from the Brookhaven lab, the researchers found a recurring pattern of 33 days. It was a bit of a surprise, given that most solar observations show a pattern of about 28 days - the rotation rate of the surface of the sun. The explanation? The core of the sun - where nuclear reactions produce neutrinos - apparently spins more slowly than the surface we see. "It may seem counter-intuitive, but it looks as if the core rotates more slowly than the rest of the sun," Sturrock said. All of the evidence points toward a conclusion that the sun is "communicating" with radioactive isotopes on Earth, said Fischbach. But there's one rather large question left unanswered. No one knows how neutrinos could interact with radioactive materials to change their rate of decay. "It doesn't make sense according to conventional ideas," Fischbach said. Jenkins whimsically added, "What we're suggesting is that something that doesn't really interact with anything is changing something that can't be changed." "It's an effect that no one yet understands," agreed Sturrock. "Theorists are starting to say, 'What's going on?' But that's what the evidence points to. It's a challenge for the physicists and a challenge for the solar people too."If the mystery particle is not a neutrino, "It would have to be something we don't know about, an unknown particle that is also emitted by the sun and has this effect, and that would be even more remarkable," Sturrock said.

Email, Fed Ex, and UPS have just about wiped out the minimum revenue needed to keep the post office alive. Most of your mail every day is junk mail and bills.
2. The Check. Britain is already laying the groundwork to do away with checks by 2018. It costs the financial system billions of dollars a year to process checks. Plastic cards and online transactions will lead to the eventual demise of the check. This plays right into the death of the post office If you never paid your bills by mail and never received them by mail, the post office would absolutely go out of business.
3. The Newspaper. The younger generation simply doesn't read the newspaper. They certainly don't subscribe to a daily delivered print edition. That may go the way of the milkman and the laundry man. As for reading the paper online, get ready to pay for it. The rise in mobile Internet devices and e-readers has caused all the newspaper and magazine publishers to form an alliance. They have met with Apple, Amazon, and the major cell phone companies to develop a model for paid subscription services.
4. The Book. You say you will never give up the physical book that you hold in your hand and turn the literal pages. I said the same thing about downloading music from iTunes. I wanted my hard copy CD. But I quickly changed my mind when I discovered that I could get albums for half the price without ever leaving home to get the latest music. The same thing will happen with books. You can browse a bookstore online and even read a preview chapter before you buy. And the price is less than half that of a real book. And think of the convenience! Once you start flicking your fingers on the screen instead of the book, you find that you are lost in the story, can't wait to see what happens next, and you forget that you're holding a gadget instead of a book.
5. The Land Line Telephone. Unless you have a large family and make a lot of local calls, you don't need it anymore. Most people keep it simply because they've always had it. But you are paying double charges for that extra service. All the cell phone companies will let you call customers using the same cell provider for no charge against your minutes
6. Music. This is one of the saddest parts of the change story. The music industry is dying a slow death. Not just because of illegal downloading. It's the lack of innovative new music being given a chance to get to the people who would like to hear it. Greed and corruption is the problem. The record labels and the radio conglomerates are simply self-destructing. Over 40% of the music purchased today is "catalogue items," meaning traditional music that the public is familiar with. Older established artists. This is also true on the live concert circuit. 7. Television. Revenues to the networks are down dramatically. Not just because of the economy. People are watching TV and movies streamed from their computers. And they're playing games and doing lots of other things that take up the time that used to be spent watching TV. Prime time shows have degenerated down to lower than the lowest common denominator. Cable rates are skyrocketing and commercials run about every 4 minutes and 30 seconds. I say good riddance to most of it. It's time for the cable companies to be put out of our misery. Let the people choose what they want to watch online and through Netflix.
8. The "Things" That You Own. Many of the very possessions that we used to own are still in our lives, but we may not actually own them in the future. They may simply reside in "the cloud." Today your computer has a hard drive and you store your pictures, music, movies, and documents. Your software is on a CD or DVD, and you can always re-install it if need be. But all of that is changing.. Apple, Microsoft, and Google are all finishing up their latest "cloud services." That means that when you turn on a computer, the Internet will be built into the operating system. So, Windows, Google, and the Mac OS will be tied straight into the Internet. If you click an icon, it will open something in the Internet cloud. If you save something, it will be saved to the cloud. And you may pay a monthly subscription fee to the cloud provider.
In this virtual world, you can access your music or your books, or your whatever from any laptop or handheld device. That's the good news But, will you actually own any of this "stuff" or will it all be able to disappear at any moment in a big "Poof?" Will most of the things in our lives be disposable and whimsical? It makes you want to run to the closet and pull out that photo album, grab a book from the shelf, or open up a CD case and pull out the insert.
9. Privacy. If there ever was a concept that we can look back on nostalgically, it would be privacy. That's gone. It's been gone for a long time anyway. There are cameras on the street, in most of the buildings, and even built into your computer and cell phone. But you can be sure that 24/7, "They" know who you are and where you are, right down to the GPS coordinates, and the Google Street View. If you buy something, your habit is put into a zillion profiles, and your ads will change to reflect those habits. And "They" will try to get you to buy something else. Again and again.

The US manufactures more now than any other country in the world. 100% true – don’t take my word for it; do some research online. It’s simply not true.Most of the decrease in manufacturing jobs comes from technology. What took 20 men to manufacture 50 years ago can now be done with one man. Most soybean, corn, cotton and canola crops in the U.S. are genetically altered. Some experts argue that these crops could pose serious health and environmental risks, but the scientific picture is currently incomplete -- deliberately so.
Agricultural corporations such as Monsanto and Syngenta have restricted independent research on the crops. They have refused to provide independent scientists with seeds, or else have set restrictive conditions that severely limit research. This is legal because under U.S. law, genetically engineered crops are patentable.
The Los Angeles Times reports:
"Agricultural companies defend their stonewalling by saying that unrestricted research could make them vulnerable to lawsuits if an experiment somehow leads to harm, or that it could give competitors unfair insight into their products. But it's likely that the companies fear something else as well: An experiment could reveal that a genetically engineered product is hazardous or doesn't perform as promised."
Even if you don't want to eat genetically engineered foods, you most likely already are doing so. Corn and soy are two of the most common food ingredients, especially in processed foods, and over 90 percent of both these crops in the US are now from GM seeds.
Organic food companies and consumer groups are stepping up their efforts to get the government to exercise more oversight of engineered foods. Critics of current policy argue that the genetically modified (GM) seeds are often contaminating the nearby non-GM crops.
ABC News reports:
"The U.S. government has insisted there's not enough difference between the genetically modified seeds its agencies have approved and natural seeds to cause concern. But Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, more so than his predecessors in previous administrations, has acknowledged the debate over the issue and a growing chorus of consumers concerned about what they are eating."

George Siemon, CEO of Organic Valley, the nation's largest organic farming cooperative, which had more than $600 million in sales last year, put it succinctly in the above article from ABC news:
"There is a growing awareness that our [food supply] system makes us all guinea pigs of sorts."
I couldn't have said it better myself, because that statement boils down the one fundamental truth about the current (non-organic) US food supply. You and your family are being treated as guinea pigs with food ingredients that have never been tested for long-term safety.
And according to the article above from the LA Times, there's a good reason these GM crops haven't been tested for safety. The companies producing the seeds won't let independent scientists test them, or if they do allow testing it is only for non-safety related studies!
Biotech Hides Behind Patent Laws to Quench Independent Safety Studies
Companies like Monsanto and Syngenta simply will not allow independent researchers access to their patented seeds, citing the legal protection these seeds have under patent laws. In other words, if their genetically altered seeds have something wrong with them that potentially could cause consumer illness, Monsanto and Syngenta would rather not have you find out about it.
Why?
You might sue them for putting your health in danger! Or a farmer using their seeds might sue them because their claims of increased crop yields is a myth. If fact, lawsuits like these have already begun appearing in court.
Does this remind you of the public health debate that went on for decades over another multi-billion dollar industry -- cigarettes? For decades the companies producing this cancer-causing product denied they caused any harm, denied nicotine was addictive and even ran advertisements featuring doctors claiming cigarettes were good for your cough.
GM Crops – More Widespread than you Think, and Linked to Potential Health Hazards
With the vast majority of planted corn crops in the US (over 90 percent) and soy crops (over 95 percent) now being GM varieties, the American public has a right to ask producers of these foods whether they are safe for long-term consumption. And the answer these GM seed companies have consistently giving us?
We don't know really know. And we aren't going to let you find out, because it might interfere with our bottom line.
Just to be clear, we are talking about a food product that has been genetically altered by blasting DNA from one species into the DNA of a food crop, typically so the food crop will either resist dying from pesticide (allowing the crops to be drenched in pesticides!) or to create a new strain of food that produces its own pesticide, internally, while it grows.
And guess what, this increased pesticide load on these GM food crops ends up on your dinner plate, and ends up in the feed given to feedlot animals. So your milk, eggs, chicken and beef are all likely tainted with a lifetime supply of foods either saturated in pesticides or genetically altered to internally produce pesticides.
There is also evidence suggesting that this pesticide-producing corn, soybean and canola continues to produce pesticide once it's inside you (or a feedlot animal), colonizing your gut bacteria and genetically altering it to also produce pesticide within your own cells.
In essence, you become a pesticide producing organism. And do I even need to tell you this pesticide is harmful to your health?
This is both horrifying and perfectly legal, although it clearly violates the spirit if not that actual letter of the Delaney Clause of 1958, an amendment passed by the US Congress to protect a safe US food supply, which states:
"The Secretary of the Food and Drug Administration shall not approve for use in food any chemical additive found to induce cancer in man, or, after tests, found to induce cancer in animals."
Using the interpretation of "chemical additive" in the broadest sense to include living organisms whose DNA has been altered to produce pesticide (possibly inside your body) through man-made biological experimentation, then GM crops internally producing pesticides simply must fall under the purview of the Delaney Clause -- but to date GM crops have not been tested beyond a few days time and currently present absolutely zero long-term evidence that their altered DNA does not lead to cancer in either man or animals.
When in fact pesticides have for years been linked to cancer, along with a host of other diseases from Parkinson's to Alzheimer's to miscarrages.
Are GM Crops Contaminating Non-GM Crops?
In the US, over 90 percent of all canola grown is genetically modified, compared to just over 20 percent in the rest of the world.
According to Nature News, the research team discovered two varieties of transgenic canola in the wild, plus a third GM variety that is a cross of the two GM breeds. One of the transgenic varieties found was Monsanto's Roundup Ready canola, which is engineered to be resistant to glyphosate, and the other was Bayer Crop Science's Liberty Link canola, which is resistant to gluphosinate. The third variety contained transgenes from each of these, and is resistant to both types of herbicide.
The truth is Monsanto and Syngenta have unleashed something into nature that will proliferate, cross-breed, and create new plants that we simply do not understand. This is particularly disturbing when it comes to food crops, such as canola, which is used in a vast number of processed food products consumed by millions of people.
The fact that GM crops can infiltrate conventional crops is a concern for any food where GM experimentation is taking place. For example, in 2004, Hawaii reported widespread contamination of papaya crops by GM varieties. Even seed stocks sold as conventional were found to be contaminated, which threatened the existence of organic papaya.
These types of transgene contaminations are completely unavoidable once you start growing them out in the open– including the cross-mixing of GM breeds. CLIP
