The Perfect Storm Series #4: Converging Juggernauts

Hello everyone!

With the wonderful Winter Olympic Opening ceremony and its special tribute to John Lennon (through Yoko Ono's brief speech and Peter Gabriel's performance of Imagine), we had another example of how humanity can — and will soon — live in peace and let love flow through all united hearts. Sadly, as demonstrated once again through the material I gathered for this compilation, some bad apple are still doing terrible things to foment violence, war and sow ever more destruction

But this too will change — in due time — as they are opposed every step of the way by a rising army of Light Warriors...

And soon the Light shall indeed prevail!

" If world peace is not a reality when we die, then we'll be back. . . until it is!"

— John Lennon

"Dr. Steven Jones, this pious professor from the Mormon Church-owned Brigham Young University, calmly, gently, gave a simple physics lesson on the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings, the implications of which awed the audience with a sense of world-historical significance, and implied an indictment of the present administration so utterly devastating that it made Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 look like a Bush apologia. Dr. Jones argues that the physics behind the government’s explanation of the collapse of the Twin Towers on September 11 do not make sense, and that a better (and perhaps only) explanation for their collapse was that they were demolished, exactly the way structural engineers bring down large buildings, by pre-positioned explosive devices set off in precise sequences. (...) If Dr. Jones’s work ever breaks into the mainstream media, and the rest of the country reacts the way the Utah County audience reacted, traditional political divisions will evaporate like steel beams exploded with thermite, and the whole lot of them, the Democrats and the Republicans, will be swept away, along with the military-industrial complex that has apparently managed to subvert the constitution of these United States and to con the American public, mesmerized by the shock of 9/11 and hypnotized by spell-binding incantations of freedom and patriotism, into going along with their mad plans for world domination."

"Love changes everything! Many people's attention is at this time drawn towards the negative forces that are doing their utmost to gain control. Their death throes are agonising, their screams are loud. They are losing power! Those who can see this please send your love to those who have been lost for so long. Do not fight them, for that would feed their anger. Send love and gain allies by healing those who could not see. One part of the world must not destroy the other. One part of the world must heal the other half to become whole. Blessed be those who see. Blessed be those who care. Blessed be those who act."

"With the congressionally-authorized ongoing "war on terror" and the constitutionally authorized power of Commander-in-Chief, the Office of President of the U.S. has become, in fact, a DICTATORSHIP with absolute power. Among the many "dark" things the President alone can dictate is (1) death or jailing of any person anywhere in the world suspected of being an enemy of U.S. power controllers, (2) mass killing of civilians anywhere in the world by military, paramilitary, or CIA attacks, (3) suspension of the Constitution's Bill of Rights, and (4) takeover of any activity in which Americans are engaged, as well as confiscation of private property, under cover of "National Security". This is an unfettered Presidential DICTATORSHIP in need of systemic change that empowers the people to cut-off funding and claim their freedom. I recommend applying focused "thought energy" throughout each day on an enlightened solution such as offered below."

The 9-11 Fairy Tale from Hell
Once upon a time there were 19 Magical Jihadists from a faraway land. They used itsy-bitsy box cutters to terrify 8 professional airline pilots. These pilots were so terrified of getting a nasty boo-boo they actually let the Magical Jihadists fly 4 commercial aircraft loaded with innocent passengers. Then the Magical Jihadists chanted a secret verse from their Koran making the planes disappear from all Air Traffic Control monitors. Now they could fly them all around the mighty USA air defense system, completely unbothered, for almost 2 hours. Even the mighty Harry Potter on a magic carpet couldn’t find them!Pretty cool, huh? Whale meat 'made into dog food' - JUST OUTRAGEOUS!
Meat from whales caught under Japan's "research" programme is so abundant that it is being sold as pet food, according to a UK conservation group. Thousands of tonnes of whale meat has been stockpiled as more animals are killed each year, says the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS). The Japanese government has attempted to sell the whale meat to schools but the price has continued to fall. A company is selling meat on the web as "healthy and safe natural" dog food. (...) In the current hunting season it launched a programme called JARPA-2 which doubles its annual minke whale catch from Antarctic waters.JARPA-2 will remove 935 minkes and 10 fin whales each year; while its other research programme JARPN takes 100 sei whales, 100 minkes, 50 Bryde's whales and five sperm whales annually from the north Pacific. The IWC obliges countries practising "scientific" whaling to process what they catch, and the meat from Japan's programmes has always found its way into restaurants. Last year it initiated a scheme to distribute whale meat to schools, and a fast-food chain began selling whale burgers. (...) Most whale species are at risk of extinction, and last year 63 members of the IWC's Scientific Committee condemned the JARPA expansion. "With the new proposal, Japan will increase its annual take... to levels approaching the annual commercial quotas for Antarctic minke whales that were in place prior to the moratorium," they declared. Trapped Like a Rat (9 February 2006)
The funeral for civil rights leader Coretta Scott King on Tuesday was quite a sight to see. The depth of sadness in the room could not be overcome by the happiness that came with the celebration of her life and accomplishments. It was the measure of Mrs. King's impact upon our society that four presidents - Carter, Bush, Clinton and Bush - sat before her flower-draped casket and spoke of her life. (...) This was a day for speaking truth to power, but it was more than that. Mr. Bush and his people have worked incredibly hard to keep this president from hearing anything that rubs against what he believes to be true. He speaks before hand-picked crowds of adoring supporters, never once seeing the face of someone who thinks he is running the nation into the ground. Millions upon millions of protesters have followed his every move, and yet it is almost certain he has never laid eyes upon a single one of them. On Tuesday, by his own design. George W. Bush was trapped like a rat on that stage. He was forced to listen to eloquent denunciations of his politics and his policies, perhaps for the first time since he took office. The effect upon him was clear; during the speeches delivered by Rev. Lowery and president Carter, Bush looked as if he was sucking on a particularly bitter lemon. When one speaks truth to power, especially arrogant power, that is usually the effect. Coretta Scott King would have approved.

"It's Not Enough to Criticize the President's Policies" (9 February 2006)
(...) I have been weighing my decision to run for Senate here in California carefully, even before Camp Casey. My entire being since Casey was killed has been immersed in trying to end the occupation of Iraq before any other mothers have to fall on the floor screaming for their child who should not have been in harm's way in the first place. In making my decision whether to run or not, I had to decide which course of action would bring the troops home sooner. Is my being on the outside, putting pressure on the inside more effective, or would a Senate campaign help bring our kids home sooner? If I thought that running for Senate would bring our young people home more quickly, I would do it in a minute, but I am not convinced that that would be so. I have decided not to run, but I am calling on all Californians and Americans to support all anti-war candidates to promote a paradigm of peace in the world, and I will be supporting and working for dozens of anti-war candidates all over the country. Our emphasis will be holding all of the pro-war candidates accountable for their tragic mistakes, and voting in representatives who will hold George Bush and his administration accountable for all of their mistakes in Iraq and here in America. We Americans are looking for ways to become involved in our political process. We are tired of being complacent and we are so tired of business as usual.

Bush Plays Terror Card With Bogus LA Attack Plot (February 10 2006)
Bootlicking news networks follow suit with dramatic images of Library Tower being destroyed - In an orchestrated set-up, George W. Bush announced that a plan to fly a plane into the LA Library Tower was thwarted in 2002 and within minutes news networks were showing footage of the same building being destroyed in the movie Independence Day. Bush stated that the attack was prevented only with the help of NSA surveillance of communications, an attempt to shut up critics of the spying scandal in a move about as sophisticated as a 300lb Pittsburgh Steelers fan after a heavy drinking session. (...) This represents an organized campaign of mind control and fearmongering. They have played the terror card so many times that the fingerprints of deception can be lifted and verified almost immediately. (...) If the government has really thwarted an attack on LA you can bet your bottom dollar that they would have waved it in front of the anti-war crowd's face before invading Iraq in March 2003. This is as obvious a political points scoring move as you're ever going to see. It has been deliberately and synthetically concocted to stifle heated criticism of the NSA spying. This, despite the fact that the spying debate still circles around foreign phone calls, when the real issue is the admitted fact that the Pentagon and other government agencies have been caught and continue to spy on peaceful anti-war and activist groups entirely made up of American citizens.

Time to Scrap the NPT (February 2, 2006)
There’s only one country that has ever used nuclear weapons. There’s only one country that has used nuclear weapons on civilian population centers. There’s only one country that has ever threatened to use nuclear weapons on non-nuclear countries. There’s only one country that has over 10,000 nuclear weapons many of which are on hair-trigger alert for enemies real or imagined. There’s only one country that has developed a regime of low-yield, bunker-busting, "usable" nuclear weapons; stating that they could be legitimately used, not to deter aggression or to stave off an imminent threat, but simply to eliminate the "suspicion" of weapons programs. There’s only one country that justifies unprovoked aggression (preemption) in its National Security doctrine; allowing it to attack any potential rival to its global dominance. There’s only one country that currently occupies a Muslim nation of 25 million inhabitants without any proof of an imminent threat, weapons-systems, or territorial aggression. The purpose of the NPT (Nonproliferation Treaty) is to reduce or eliminate the development of nuclear weapons. If it is to have any relevance at all it must be directed at nations that not only have weapons, but demonstrate a flagrant disregard for the international laws condemning their use. The IAEA should focus its attention on those states that have a clear record of territorial aggression, military intervention, or who consistently violate United Nations resolutions. In its present form the IAEA and the NPT are utterly meaningless. Rather than leading the world towards nuclear disarmament, the agency and the treaty have simply ignored the misbehavior of the more powerful nations and humiliated the non-nuclear states with spurious accusations and threatening rhetoric. The NPT was never intended to be a bludgeon for battering the weaker nations; nor was it set up as a de-facto apartheid system whereby the superpower and its allies can lord above the non nuclear states coercing them to act according to their diktats. It was designed to curb the development of the world’s most lethal weapons; eventually consigning them to the ash-heap. The political maneuvering surrounding Iran’s "alleged" nuclear weapons-programs demonstrates the irrelevance and hypocrisy of the current system. As yet, there is no concrete evidence that Iran is in non-compliance with the terms of the treaty. That hasn’t deterred the Bush administration from intimidating its allies and adversaries alike to assist them in dragging Iran before the Security Council. At the same time, the United States is occupying the country next door to Iran and, after having killed an estimated 100,000 Iraqis and destroyed vast swaths of the countryside, has still never provided any coherent justification for the initial invasion. The international community has simply looked away in fear. This alone should illustrate the ineffectiveness of the institutions that are designed to keep the peace. CLIP

Ability to Wage 'Long War' Is Key to Pentagon Plan (Feb 4)
The Pentagon, readying for what it calls a "long war," yesterday laid out a new 20-year defense strategy that envisions US troops deployed, often clandestinely, in dozens of countries at once to fight terrorism and other nontraditional threats. Major initiatives include a 15 percent boost in the number of elite US troops known as Special Operations Forces, a near-doubling of the capacity of unmanned aerial drones to gather intelligence, a $1.5 billion investment to counter a biological attack, and the creation of special teams to find, track and defuse nuclear bombs and other catastrophic weapons. China is singled out as having "the greatest potential to compete militarily with the United States," and the strategy in response calls for accelerating the fielding of a new Air Force long-range strike force, as well as for building undersea warfare capabilities. These Weapons That Won't Kill, but Will Continue to Frighten (04 February 2006)
Forget about rubber bullets and tear gas. War without deaths (or almost), maintenance of order without weapons that kill, are already being prepared in secret laboratories. On the roads, "anti-traction" lubricating jellies would be spread to prevent any vehicle from advancing, any soldier from moving. A suspect who doesn't stop at a roadblock would catch pulsed energy projectiles: a cloud of plasma would unleash a traumatizing flash near the person, a sort of air explosion that won't burn, but disorient for a time. Electronic bullets culminating in the impact of a punch and an electric discharge would also do the trick. Not forgetting acoustic weapons, unbearable infrasound aimed at vehicles, buildings, or reverberating inside skulls. Aerosols with disgusting smells would disperse an aggressive crowd immediately. A new type of anti-personnel mine would protect prohibited areas: after signaling to an intruder by setting off a light or sound warning system, they would inflict blasts of electric waves capable of immobilizing him for several seconds. Electromagnetic impulsion weapons would destroy electronic equipment. Bacteria would "eat" asphalt from roads, concrete from buildings, would decompose fuels and explosives. Pulverizations of hyper-corrosive chemical agents would weaken steel. Obviously, this theatre of operations of the future can only be described now in the conditional tense. The confidentiality that surrounds these projects, the even clandestine character that conceals certain American "black programs," makes it impossible to distinguish which ones will remain in the state of an unrealizable idea and which will rapidly be put into effect. Pulsed energy machines, still too heavy, are on the point of being tested by the American Army in Iraq. (.,..) For their part, the opponents of this new weapon emphasize different risks: that of facilitation of recourse to violence and a banalization of its use. "When we train officials, we insist on one point: don't become dependent on Taser," acknowledges Mr. Di Zazzo. "The devices will be equipped with cameras linked to the command center to avoid abuses." But side-effects have already occurred elsewhere. Four American soldiers were sanctioned in December 2004 for having used Taser guns to torture Iraqi prisoners. Non-lethal weapons can also supply torturers with new methods, all the while masking any trace of their brutality. Will they reduce mortality only to increase pain?

The Cheneyacs want war to stop the bourse from deflating the sick US dollar. CLIP

Lab officials excited by new H-bomb project (2/06/2006)
For the first time in more than 20 years, U.S. nuclear-weapons scientists are designing a newH-bomb, the first of probably several new nuclear explosives on the drawing boards. If they succeed, in perhaps 20 or 25 more years, the United States would have an entirely new nuclear arsenal, and a highly automated factory capable of turning out more warheads as needed, as well as new kinds of warheads."We are on the verge of an exciting time," the nation's top nuclear weapons executive, Linton Brooks, said last week at Lawrence Livermore weapons design laboratory.Teams of roughly20 scientists and engineers at the nation's two laboratories for nuclear-explosive design — Livermore and Los Alamos in New Mexico — are in a head-to-head competition to offer designs for the first of the new thermonuclear explosives, termed "reliable replacement warheads" or RRWs.Designers are aiming for bombs that will be simpler, easier to maintain over decades and, if they fell into terrorists' hands, able to be remotely destroyed or rendered useless. Once the designs are unveiled in September, the Bush administration and Congress could face a major choice in the future of the U.S. arsenal: Do they keep maintaining the existing, tested weapons or begin diverting money and manpower to developing the newly designed but untested weapons?Administration officials see the new weapons and the plant to make them as "truly transformative," allowing the dismantlement of thousands of reserve weapons. (...) The prize for the winning lab is tens, perhaps hundreds of million of dollars for carrying its bomb concept into prototyping and production. If manufactured, the first RRW would replace two warheads on submarine-launched missiles, the W76 and W88, together the most numerous active weapons and the cornerstone of the U.S. nuclear force.Altogether, the nation has 5,700 nuclear bombs and warheads of 12 basic types, plus more than 4,200 weapons kept in reserve as insurance against aging and failure of the active, fielded arsenal. Most are 25-35 years old. All were exploded multiple times under the Nevada desert before U.S. nuclear testing halted in 1992. It is in most respects the world's most sophisticated nuclear arsenal, and beyond opposition at home to continued testing, ending testing made sense to discourage other nations from testing to advance their nuclear capabilities. Alberto Gonzales spoke before law students at Georgetown Law School today, justifying illegal, unauthorized surveilance of US citizens, but during the course of his speech the students in class did something pretty ballsy and brave. They got up from their seats and turned their backs to him. To make matters worse for Gonzales, additional students came into the room, wearing black cowls and carrying a simple banner, written on a sheet. Fortunately for him, it was a brief speech... followed by a panel discussion that basically ripped his argument in half. And, as one of the people on the panel said, "When you're a law student, they tell you that if you can't argue the law, argue the facts. They also tell you if you can't argue the facts, argue the law. If you can't argue either, apparently, the solution is to go on a public relations offensive and make it a political issue... to say over and over again "it's lawful", and to think that the American people will somehow come to believe this if we say it often enough. In light of this, I'm proud of the very civil civil disobedience that was shown here today."- David Cole, Georgetown University Law Professor - It was a good day for dissent.

Chavez makes call to arms (5 feb 06),5936,18047176%255E1702,00.html
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says he is considering buying enough rifles to arm one million people ready to repel a possible US invasion. Mr Chavez also threatened to close down his government's US-based refineries if Washington decided to cut diplomatic ties. During a speech warning his supporters that Washington was considering an invasion of Venezuela, Mr Chavez said that 100,000 Russian-built Kalashnikov assault rifles would not be enough to defend the country. "We still need a higher number of rifles. The 100,000 Russian rifles are not enough, Venezuela needs to have one million well-equipped and well-armed men and women," he said. "I've started making contacts with some countries" that would be able to supply the rifles, Mr Chavez told the crowd of supporters to rousing applause. Relations between Washington and Caracas have been tense in recent months in part because of US criticism of Venezuela's purchases of military equipment, including 100,000 Russian-made assault rifles. Mr Chavez said Venezuela did not want to go to the extreme of cutting off petroleum supplies to the US but he said if Washington wanted to break relations he could easily order Venezuela's US refineries closed. "We'll see how high oil prices go, we'll see how much a gallon of gas will cost. I could easily sell the oil we sell to the United States to other countries," he said. "We don't want to get to that extreme, we want them to leave us in peace." Venezuela is the world's fifth biggest oil exporter and supplies about 15 per cent of US petroleum imports. CLIP

Winds of climate change are about to make their impact felt in many a boardroom (Feb 6),,1702952,00.html
Top science adviser sounds death knell for theory that insists growth is good. - The old economics is dead. Its death knell was sounded last week, not by a practitioner of the dismal science but by Tony Blair's chief scientific adviser. Sir David King said concentrations of greenhouse gases were already at a level where the warning signs were flashing red: a comment that starkly illustrates the impending clash between economic orthodoxy and environmental sustainability. Economics is a discipline in which the factors of production - capital and labour - are supposed to be harnessed to maximise production at the cheapest price. By this yardstick, an economy is doing twice as well if it is growing at 4% rather than 2% and disastrously badly if consumers are not in the shops from dawn till dusk. Globalisation is seen as the ultimate form of a market economy, according to the prevailing model, because a more efficient use of the factors of production leads to lower prices and therefore permits higher levels of consumption. In a globalised world, you're only as good as your last GDP number. But think about it for a minute. Concerns are frequently being raised about the fact that many developed countries are about to see - or are already seeing - a decline in their populations. This will have an impact on their trend rate of growth, which is a function of population and productivity. Stories about falling population are always couched in terms of demographic time bombs, suggesting that they are clearly a bad thing. But fewer people in Germany, Italy or Japan will mean more space, less pressure on resources and a more pleasant life. (...) Currently, greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere are around 380 parts per million, compared with around 220 ppm during the last ice age. Climatologists estimate that 400ppm - of thereabouts - is the tipping point and if we push concentrations much above that the process of climate change could become irreversible.SeducedSir David says climate change is a threat to our civilisation, and he's right about that. There is no cast-iron guarantee that societies - no matter how smart or technologically advanced - persist. Think of the Romans in the last days before the collapse of the empire ushered in the Dark Ages. But Sir David thinks it is unrealistic to limit concentrations to the levels that scientists say would be safe. He thinks about 550 ppm is the limit and, sadly, given the current configuration of politics - domestically and globally - he is probably right about that too. One problem is that as individuals we lack the incentives to do the sensible thing. If you are seduced by the idea of a cut-price flight, you get 100% of the benefit but only assume a tiny fraction of the cost to the environment. Another problem is that we lack the institutional framework for coping with climate change; instead, we have national governments fearful of doing anything that would damage international competitiveness. A more damaging mindset you could not hope to find, since it sends out the clear message that action on the environment comes a long way second to policies that foster growth. CLIP

It's capitalism or a habitable planet - you can't have both (Feb 2),,1700409,00.html
Our economic system is unsustainable by its very nature. The only response to climate chaos and peak oil is major social change - There is no meaningful response to climate change without massive social change. A cap on this and a quota on the other won't do it. Tinker at the edges as we may, we cannot sustain earth's life-support systems within the present economic system.Capitalism is not sustainable by its very nature. It is predicated on infinitely expanding markets, faster consumption and bigger production in a finite planet. And yet this ideological model remains the central organising principle of our lives, and as long as it continues to be so it will automatically undo (with its invisible hand) every single green initiative anybody cares to come up with. Much discussion of energy, with never a word about power, leads to the fallacy of a low-impact, green capitalism somehow put at the service of environmentalism. In reality, power concentrates around wealth. Private ownership of trade and industry means that the decisive political force in the world is private power. The corporation will outflank every puny law and regulation that seeks to constrain its profitability. It therefore stands in the way of the functioning democracy needed to tackle climate change. Only by breaking up corporate power and bringing it under social control will we be able to overcome the global environmental crisis. On these pages we have been called on to admire capital's ability to take robust action while governments dither. All hail Wal-Mart for imposing a 20% reduction in its own carbon emissions. But the point is that supermarkets are over. We cannot have such long supply lines between us and our food. Not any more. The very model of the supermarket is unsustainable, what with the packaging, food miles and destruction of British farming. Small, independent suppliers, processors and retailers or community-owned shops selling locally produced food provide a social glue and reduce carbon emissions. CLIP

What Is Plan B? (February 2, 2006)
Eradicate poverty, reforest the earth, restore fisheries, eliminate overgrazing, protect biological diversity, stabilize climate -- Lester Brown says it's all possible. Of all the resources needed to build an economy that will sustain economic progress, none is more scarce than time. That is one of the key messages of Lester Brown's new book, "Plan B. 2.0: Rescuing a Planet Under Stress and a Civilization in Trouble." The world may finally be listening.China now consumes more grain, meat, coal and steel than the United States. If China's income grows as projected, in 2031 its income per person will match incomes in the United States today. At that point, it will be consuming the equivalent of two-thirds of the current world grain harvest, driving 1.1 billion cars (versus 800 million in the world today) and using 99 million barrels of oil per day, well above current world production of 84 million barrels. That's Plan A. New threats -- climate change, environmental degradation, the persistence of poverty and the loss of hope -- call for new strategies. Brown -- who left World Watch in 2001 to found Earth Policy Institute -- says it's time for Plan B -- a renewable-energy-based, reuse-recycle economy with a diversified transport system: time to build a new economy and a new world. The world is now spending $975 billion annually for military purposes. Plan B -- social goals and earth restoration -- requires an additional annual expenditure of $161 billion. CLIP

Clinton: Climate change is the world's biggest worry (January 28, 2006),0,2658428,print.story?coll=ny-region-apnewyork
DAVOS, Switzerland -- Former U.S. President Bill Clinton told corporate chieftains and political bigwigs Saturday that climate change was the world's biggest problem _ followed by global inequality and the "apparently irreconcilable" religious and cultural differences behind terrorism. Clinton's comments provided something a freewheeling and philosophical finale _ ahead of Sunday's formal wrap-up _ to several days of high-powered discourse on the state of the world, and the mostly admiring audience seemed to hang on his every word. "First, I worry about climate change," Clinton said in an onstage conversation with the founder of the World Economic Forum. "It's the only thing that I believe has the power to fundamentally end the march of civilization as we know it, and make a lot of the other efforts that we're making irrelevant and impossible." Clinton called for "a serious global effort to develop a clean energy future" to avoid the onset of another ice age. He also said the current global system "works to aggravate rather than ameliorate inequality" between and within nations _ including in the United States, where he lamented the "growing concentration of wealth at the top," alongside stagnation for the middle classes and rising poverty. Scientists warn of melting ice in Arctic (February 6, 2006)
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Scientists on Monday painted a gloomy picture of the effects of global warming on the Arctic, warning of melting ocean ice, rising oceans, thawed permafrost and forests susceptible to bugs and fire."A lot of the stories you read make it sound like there's uncertainty," said Jonathan Overpeck, a professor of geosciences at the University of Arizona. "There's not uncertainty." The questions scientists continue to address, he said after his presentation at the Alaska Forum on the Environment, are how much of the warming is caused by humans and how drastic long-term effects will be.Deborah Williams, a conference organizer and former director of the Alaska Conservation Foundation, said Alaska is Ground Zero for observing the effects of global warming because so many natural phenomena are tied to ice and the repercussions of it melting."We are the Paul Revere of global warming," she said. Overpeck reviewed NASA studies showing how Arctic ice has shrunk in size and depth. CLIP

Global Warming Demands Urgent Solutions, Scientists Say (January 31, 2006)
LONDON — The world must halt greenhouse gas emissions and reverse them within two decades or watch the planet spiralling towards destruction, scientists said on Monday. Saying that evidence of catastrophic global warming from burning fossil fuels was now incontrovertible, the experts from oceanographers to economists, climatologists and politicians stressed that inaction was unacceptable. "Climate change is worse than was previously thought and we need to act now," Henry Derwent, special climate change adviser to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, said at the launch of a book of scientific papers on the global climate crisis. Researcher Rachel Warren from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, who contributed to the book "Avoiding Dangerous Climate Change", said carbon dioxide emissions had to peak no later than 2025, and painted a picture of rapidly approaching catastrophe. Global average temperatures were already 0.6 Celsius above pre-industrial levels, and a rise of just 0.4C more would see coral reefs wiped out, flooding in the Himalayas and millions more people facing hunger, she said. A rise of 3C -- just half of what scientists have warned is possible this century -- would see 400 million people going hungry, entire species being wiped out and killer diseases such as dengue fever reachning pandemic proportions. Debate on Climate Shifts to Issue of Irreparable Change (January 29, 2006)
Some Experts on Global Warming Foresee 'Tipping Point' When It Is Too Late to Act - Now that most scientists agree human activity is causing Earth to warm, the central debate has shifted to whether climate change is progressing so rapidly that, within decades, humans may be helpless to slow or reverse the trend. This "tipping point" scenario has begun to consume many prominent researchers in the United States and abroad, because the answer could determine how drastically countries need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in the coming years. While scientists remain uncertain when such a point might occur, many say it is urgent that policymakers cut global carbon dioxide emissions in half over the next 50 years or risk the triggering of changes that would be irreversible. There are three specific events that these scientists describe as especially worrisome and potentially imminent, although the time frames are a matter of dispute: widespread coral bleaching that could damage the world's fisheries within three decades; dramatic sea level rise by the end of the century that would take tens of thousands of years to reverse; and, within 200 years, a shutdown of the ocean current that moderates temperatures in northern Europe. Just in case you hadn't noticed, we're in a Bushworld too absurd for words. But that hasn't stopped this administration from yakking its collective head off. (...) Though our brush-cutting President did mention wood chips and switch grass, ethanol is essentially a corn product; and corn is our petroleum farm crop of choice, since growing it in quantity involves massive infusions of oil-based chemical fertilizer. So maybe we should consider George's ethanol-fix like one of those nicotine patches for cigarette smokers. Throw in some leftover radioactive waste from those nuclear plants his administration would love to hug into existence and it all made perfect sense to me... until the next day when an administration that had never heard of no-backsies took it all back. The President's suggestion about making 75% of Middle Eastern oil imports go away "was purely an example," insisted an embarrassed Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman. And anyway, it turned out that none of it really mattered since, as Paul Krugman pointed out: "[T]he National Renewable Energy Laboratory is about to lay off staff because of budget cuts. 'A veteran researcher,' reports The New York Times, 'said the staff had been told that the cuts would be concentrated among researchers in wind and biomass, which includes ethanol.'" Of course, the President and his men generated enough wind last week to create a little extra power - if only we'd put some money into alternative fuels. CLIP

Pyramids found in Bosnia
When was the first time you came to the conclusion that there are pyramids in Visoko? In April of 2005, during my visit to Visoko, I noticed two geometrically symmetrical elevations:
Visocica (Bosnian pyramid of Sun) and Pljesevica (Bosnian pyramid of Moon). Even tough both were covered by trees, the characteristics of pyramids were evident. Taking into consideration their fit with the sides of the world for me there was no doubt that we were talking about pyramids. Route from unbelievable hypothesis to the scientific argumentation, which will confirm my vision, was logical. First, I started with geological trial excavations in August which showed many anomalies convincing even some experts around me that this was not a natural formation. In October of 2005 I continued my excavation on my own with wide digs, so-called probing (excavation) wells, which showed the structure of the walls of the pyramid, access plateau and the pyramid design. For an expert eye there was no doubt any more at that point: stone tiles made a stairs-like pyramid 220 meters tall, and treated stone tiles were making up the access plateau. Physicians Group Reacts to Vaccinations
While researchers look for links between autism, pervasive developmental disorders, and the mercury content of the vaccines which are mandated by law, some physicians are convinced that the dangers of mandatory vaccinations and the vaccines themselves potentially cause more harm than good. As a result, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) passed a resolution at their 57th Annual Meeting that calls for the elimination of laws which require vaccinations for children. According to Dr. Jane M. Orient, MD, the association's Executive Director, "Our children face the possibility of death or serious long-term adverse effects from mandated vaccines that aren’t necessary or that have very limited benefits." According to the Association, the mandatory vaccine controversy is fueled by the influence of the pharmaceutical companies in the legislative process and the fact that their influence extends into the depths of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the Food and Drug Administration. These groups have the authority to approve vaccines and other medical treatments for use in the United States, and their research is flawed because of the influence of the manufacturers. According to the AAPS, "Rampant conflicts of interest in the approval process has been the subject of several Congressional hearings, and a recent Congressional report concluded that the pharmaceutical industry has indeed exerted undue influence on mandatory vaccine legislation toward its own financial interests." They go on to say, "The vaccine approval process has also been contaminated by flawed or incomplete clinical trials, and government officials have chosen to ignore negative results." CLIP

I am doing my best to be positive with this message, please bear with me.

After being introduced to ERN through chance with a google search, I was immediately drawn in by the concept and the way you all have executed it. The most interesting aspect is the weekly global meditations. I have not yet participated but I often feel compelled to step into this circle and do so. What prevents me lately from doing this, really, is the content of the ERN newsletters. Increasingly, I see prophetic warnings about "imminent" this or that, and I think implying so strongly that we know what the future holds is very dangerous. Not only that, but it alienates a lot of the people and the passion that ERN could otherwise assemble, were these compilations assembled with a bit more scrutiny and a few more disclaimers. For example, when a headline reads "Dramatic Change In West Antarctic Ice Could Produce 16ft Rise In Sea Levels", this is pure alarmism. I can't imagine there is enough extra water on the face of the entire planet to raise the global sea level 16ft in any amount of time. Putting the science aside (and I'm no expert) it is even more frustrating that this headline has no disclaimers or anything aside from the completely alarmist conclusion of a 16ft rise in sea levels (there is not even an indication of how many years a 16ft increase would take, which seems far more important than the actual estimate of the sea level increase itself.)

I want this group to succeed and grow, but I feel it simply cannot unless the newsletter – which to me is the group’s flagship – can be made more informative and less prophetic.

Dear Chris

I just found your message in the ERN guestbook - which I just made public for all to see.

I'd like first to thank you for taking the time to share your appreciation about this networking service and the weekly Meditation Focuses (these are indeed a wonderful opportunity to do some good Light/healing work).

Thanks also for sharing your thoughts regarding the "prophetic" bias you see in the compilations I prepare. It is true that lately there has been a number of articles that I've picked which emphasized threats and imminent events that COULD happen, and that I have not necessarily in each case tried to add disclaimers as you'd like me to do.

There are a couple reasons for this: The first one - as it has been the case for 8 years - is that I'm alone here at my computer to bring all this information together and it takes quite a bit of time which I don't have as much as I did in the past - I'm working as a translator to earn a living and my time schedule to complete my current book translation is rather tight. Thus, once I'm through with reviewing and selecting the material for a compilation, I'm often too tired or just too much in a hurry to get it done to take time to write up such disclaimers. Secondly, I trust that most people, especially those who have been on the list for quite some time, have enough experience and discernment to make their own mind as to the credibility of the material they read, and thus they don't need anyone to warn them about this or that.

Moreover, each person should do their own homework when they are feeling unsure about the level of credibility of a topic or a claim made in a news article or in any of the diverse sources of views and information I chose to include in my compilations — obviously because I feel they hold some validity or that is is important to be aware of these views and info. None of the material I network is presented by me as any kind of truth that ERN subscribers should believe in — unless I do so unconsciously which is possible as I sometimes get carried away when commenting about something which I feel strongly about. But frankly I think that describing the content of these compilations as being "prophetic" in tone is a rather exaggerated claim in itself ;-)

To warn about imminent global environmental catastrophe as many scientific articles do is not being prophetic but merely stating the obvious from their informed perspective. And it serves a useful purpose in the global sense as it moves governments, corporations and individual alike to re-evaluate their assumptions about what our future potentially holds and, hopefully, make all necessary adjustments to correct the current course that will lead to a tragic end of our civilization if no correction is made. I believe that is the goal of scientists like James Loveloch - the father of the Gaia Hypothesis - whose recent dire pronouncements about the fact that we MAY have already crossed the threshold point after which no environmental recovery is possible. Could his opinion possibly be the basis for your perception about the so-called prophetic content of recent compilations? If you diligently do your own homework and review the massive body of scientific information available about the cumulative effects of global warming and the far-reaching cascading effect it is in the process of triggering worldwide, perhaps you will come to a similar conclusion and likewise sound alarmist and prophetic when trying to wake up other people still entranced into their own personal bubble of self-selected "reality", oblivious to the disintegration of the Web of Life around themselves.

Now regarding the example you mentioned with the article suggesting the possibility of a 16 feet sea rise (Dramatic Change In West Antarctic Ice Could Produce 16ft Rise In Sea Levels, archived at, it should be noted again that it's British scientists (not me!) who are making such a claim, and that this is what would happen if the vast section of the Antarctica called WAIS was to suddenly slide into the ocean. I trust these people have their math correct and that the mass of this ice sheet is sufficiently large to add 16 feet to the ocean levels. For your reference here is another article on this topic - with a relevant quote - that I've just found through Google and which shows that this is a rather old debate within the scientific community...

Ice Sheets and Rising Seas
(...) Serious concern began to spread when John Mercer, a glaciologist at Ohio State University, drew attention to the West Antarctic Ice Sheet. This is a smaller (but still enormous) mass of ice, separated by a mountain range from the bulk of the continent. Mercer argued that this mass was held back, in an especially delicate balance, by the floating ice sheets ("ice shelves") at its rim. The shelves might disintegrate under a slight warming. Just so, he suggested, a collapse of Arctic Ocean ice sheets might have caused the more local, but remarkably sudden, cooling of the North Atlantic around 11,000 years ago that other scientists had identified. A West Antarctic Ice Sheet collapse could be very rapid, Mercer said. The sea level would not rise as far as if all of Antarctica surged, but it would be bad enough — up to five meters (16 feet). Much of the world's population lives near the shore. Such a rise would displace perhaps two billion people and force the abandonment of many great cities. Mercer thought it could happen within the next 40 years.(6*)

Also, just for your information, before the ice sheets that covered North America and Europe 11,000 years ago melted at the end of the last ice age, the level of the oceans was about 300 feet lower than now. So there is PLENTY of frozen water on Earth (mostly on the Greenland and in Antarctica where the ice sheet often reaches depth (or thickness) of 5 to 6 kilometers) to considerably rise the level of the oceans over a relatively long period of time of course - like several thousands of years.

So I hope this helps you see those information in a clearer context.

Best regards

Hi Jean,

I've been reading your emailings for the last few months, since I joined your list. Overall I like your website and information, and I thank you very much for speaking out and doing this work.

However, one thing I notice is that your psychic information is very hopeful and positive, but much of the concrete information (on doings of the Neocons, war, oppression of our rights, destruction of the environment, etc.) is very scary and negative. Both, of course, are absolutely true. But the picture one gets from the overall readings is one of spiritual hope but physical/political hopelessness. While all the information given is true, the concrete information is not sufficiently balanced, I think. There are many concrete signs of hopefulness - the ongoing investigations of the Bush administration (in spite of the fact that they control all three branches of government!), the continuing flood of their own people who are turning against the Neocons, the ongoing leaks from within the CIA and military, the rising up of more and more dissent, etc. - that could be given more emphasis.

For an example of a good balance in the concrete area, check out Michael Moore's website: He manages to expose the outrages of the Bush administration, give information on the forward actions of resistance, and give inspiring stories of resistance, courage, love, and hope. If you could balance the negative with more positives in the concrete area, I think it would help greatly to dispel the fear that all of us feel, and that is the key tool of the dark forces. It would also help us to ground a more positive image of our reality, and make it increasingly the world's reality.

Thanks very much for all the work you do

Mike Wong>

NOTE from Jean: I'm trying my best under the circumstances to balance out things in my compilations, but what you have is mostly a reflection of what I receive from people who recommend material to my attention. Also I believe the Meditation Focus healing work is part of the solution to address most of the imbalances in our world today. The real victory, for us individually and for this planet as a whole, over fear and dark ploys to capture/ensnare our soul is to be won in the invisible (for us!) spiritual realm. All the rest - including the information I network - is a background stage for this gradual expansion of Light over and through darkness which is unstoppable and always victorious in the end, for lighting up a single candle in a dark room is always enough to dispel the darkness...

“Not a single human can achieve alone what 2 human beings can do when attuned to the same vibration. Two candles are brighter than one. Imagine what a thousand candles can do... a million candles... 6 billion candles! We are all the living prophecy, awakening to our Unity, One with Life, One with the Universe.”

- Taken from “Pathways to Unity

Great reply! It sounds like it's really up to all of us to "Be the change you want to see in the world" (Mahatma Gandhi quote), and work with the meditation as well as try to sent you both positive as well as negative concrete reports. Thanks again!

BYU’s Dr. Steven Jones Blows the Roof off a Utah Auditorium

by Philip Sherman Gordon

On Wednesday, February 1, a quiet, “churchy-looking” gentleman in a white shirt and tie walked into a packed auditorium on the campus of Utah Valley State College and electrified the room like a rock star. The 150-seat auditorium was filled to capacity, with every seat occupied, and people sitting in the aisles from the stage floor to the back of the room. Video cameras on tripods lined the back row. Two documentary-film crews were in attendance, in addition to the school’s camera crew, and various independent journalists. Seven “spill-over” rooms, with seating for 40-50 each, were also filled to capacity. On this very conservative campus (in the most conservative county in the most conservative state in the union), where community leaders pulled out all the stops in 2004 to prevent Michael Moore from speaking as part of his anti-Bush, pro-Kerry “Slacker Uprising Tour,” Dr.

He argues that the 650 degree Celsius temperature of burning jet fuel would not have been hot enough to even bend the steel girders of the WTC Towers, let alone to melt or evaporate them, as recovered beams indicate. And even if it was hot enough to evaporate the steel, the towers should not have collapsed as they did, pancaking so perfectly into their own footprints. On the rare times when such structures have failed (always due to earthquakes), they have toppled over sideways. The towers would have had to have been perfectly sliced, at every point along a horizontal plane at exactly the same instant, for something even resembling a pancaking effect to occur.

And even if they did somehow pancake perfectly into their own footprints due to a structural failure, they would not have done it in the time it took for them to collapse, falling at essentially the speed of an apple dropped from the top of one of the towers, with nothing between it and the ground but thin air. The steel and concrete in the floors that collapsed should have taken some measurable time to break, and thus slowed the collapse somewhat as it unfolded. And even if it did collapse, at super speed, phwack phwack phwack, floor by floor, as fast as an apple falling through the air, impelled by the weight of the decapitated structure above it, its solid steel frame severed like a head by a flaming guillotine, that does not explain the molten steel seen at the Ground Zero clean-up site many days after the event. What could have caused such heat? asked Professor Jones.

And on it went, point by point, for almost two hours. Nothing about the physics of “what we know” about 9/11 seemed to add up. And all that’s not to mention the mysterious collapse of the forgotten WTC-7, the third steel-frame building that imploded due to fire, not only that day, but in the history of architectural design--the building that was not hit by a plane, that was surrounded by other buildings equally impacted but structurally undamaged by the collapse of the towers, that, with no jet fuel or violent impact, but allegedly due to a small number of scattered “debris fires,” collapsed, pancaking perfectly into its own footprint, looking exactly like video images of buildings being demolished by pre-positioned explosive devices. Playing the one available video of WTC-7 collapsing at slow speed, Dr. Jones used his laser pointer to indicate the explosive “squibs” clearly seen shooting their way up the sides of the building as it collapsed from the top center down. He showed still images of similar micro-explosions on the sides of the Twin Towers, with steel beams clearly visible, ejected out of the sides of the buildings, ahead of the dust, blown out before the above portions collapsed.

It is a devastating presentation, and one could feel the disequilibrium of 150 minds reeling at once. The defining moment of contemporary American experience suddenly lost its definition. What is the meaning of 9/11? What really happened that day? If these things are true, the implications clearly point to some kind of “inside job” involving the government of the United States of America. (The Department of Defense, the FBI, and the CIA all had offices in the mysteriously collapsed WTC-7. Is it reasonable that outside terrorists could have infiltrated that building and filled it with explosives? ) If the WTC was brought down by pre-positioned explosive devices, somehow facilitated and covered up by the government, it would be the most audacious conspiracy in human history. When before have so many people been so spectacularly bamboozled, with so much death and destruction, and such massive implications for geo-politics? Never, that’s when.

And that is the problem Dr. Jones is facing with his research. People have knee-jerk reactions to “conspiracy theories,” at least to the ones that do not make it into their established and trusted news outlets. And the mainstream media, so far, despite a blip or two in the New York Times, is taking a pass on this story. Yes, my skeptical friends believe that the Bush administration cynically smeared the war records of both John Kerry and John McCain during the 2000 presidential election through the use of shill agencies. Yes, they believe there was suppression of black voters in Florida, and other schemes to cheat their way into the White House in the 2000 election. Yes, they believe the administration conspired to rig the intelligence they used to justify their invasion of Iraq. Yes, if they are regular readers of The New Yorker, they believe that the election fraud was worse in 2004, with rigged ballot machines, in Ohio in particular, being used to great effect. And, yes, they believe in massive wrong-doing and cover-up regarding October Surprise and the Iran/Contra affair, as well as the CIA-orchestrated overthrows of democracies in Chile and Iran, to name only two well-known examples. But no, they don’t believe in conspiracy theories.

These are hardcore leftists who refuse to even entertain the question of whether science supports the conclusion that the planes brought the towers down. “Too many people would have to know about it for them to get away with it,” one friend said. “They’re not that smart,” said another. “It’s just not plausible,” said a third. The issues raised by Professor Jones are not breaking along standard political fissures. People’s relative amounts of skepticism and credulity, rather than their political affiliations, seem to determine their openness to giving the professor’s analysis a hearing. Jones himself claims to have been a lifelong Republican, but now affiliates with no political party. The audience Wednesday night was definitely not the usual suspects of progressive professors and pierced and tattooed activists and students who regularly gather to share criticism of the President, although there were a few of those, too. Mostly, they looked like a cross-section of average middle-Americans. But by the end of the evening, it is no exaggeration to say that most had become political radicals, not of the left and the right, but of the right and the wrong.

If Dr. Jones’s work ever breaks into the mainstream media, and the rest of the country reacts the way the Utah County audience reacted, traditional political divisions will evaporate like steel beams exploded with thermite, and the whole lot of them, the Democrats and the Republicans, will be swept away, along with the military-industrial complex that has apparently managed to subvert the constitution of these United States and to con the American public, mesmerized by the shock of 9/11 and hypnotized by spell-binding incantations of freedom and patriotism, into going along with their mad plans for world domination.

Questions remain from 9/11 report, professor says ANNA CHANG-YEN - Daily Herald

A BYU physics professor speaking on Wednesday night implied a government cover-up of what really happened on Sept. 11, 2001, and cast doubt on the blame placed on Osama bin Laden.

Professor Steven E. Jones suggested before the attacks the Bush administration was seeking a way to increase military spending and invade Iraq. The ensuing attacks on Iraq and Afghanistan have created most of Muslims' disdain for America, he said.

He spoke at Utah Valley State College to a packed lecture room, and by video to adjacent overflow rooms, sponsored by the Center for the Study of Ethics.

Center director David Keller said, "The collapse of the World Trade Center buildings illustrates a strange convergence of physics, engineering, ethics and politics."

View of a Military Expert: Why the Towers of the World Trade Center collapsed

The impossibility of a gravitational collapse is closer seen in other documents. A collapse would produce large pieces, and does not explain reports of fine dust from concrete, huge amounts of dust and pieces of steel ejected outwards.

Destruction of the towers by explosions is clear according to the photographs and reports of the eye witnesses. In the picture below, a range of cutting charges have just exploded in the down left sector and a typical white cloud is formed outwards from the wall. Down right, explosions are seen as well. Even a flame is seen.

In video tapes taken of the so-called collapses of the WTC, more explosions of these cutting charges can be seen. The explosions advance quickly, with a gap of a couple of floors, cutting the strong steel pillars in the outer wall. The explosions are timed so that it appears that the tower collapses occur in the same timing as in a gravitational collapse. The explosions are not completely synchronized in timing, probably a few charges are triggered by radio, and other charges explode out of the impulses of one of these charges (infrared, pressure wave).

More challenging problems to the demolition men, however, were the central cores of the buildings and the 47 steel pillars more robust than the ones on the outer rounds. The pillars of the central cores were made of steel even 100 + 100 mm thick, thicker than the side armours of a battle tank. Cutting those, even with explosives, is extremely difficult.

As seen in the following pictures, the cores of the towers were not distracted by thousands of powerful cutting charges but by a modern thermonuclear explosive, a small hydrogen bomb. In the picture below, a hydrogen bomb explosion, the bomb having been placed in the cellar and directed to the core, has reached the roof of the tower and the upper parts of the outer walls. On its way up the waves of fire pressure partially penetrated about 100 floors of concrete and steel. Over ten million degrees of heat caused by a hydrogen bomb sublimised all water within the concrete in a moment. Water exploded extremely quickly into 24-fold volume and totally pulverized the concrete. Even people and computers that were in the buildings disappeared turning into heat and light. That is why almost nothing of them was found in the ruins.

Burning radiation is absorbed in steel so quickly that steel heats up immediately over its melting point 1585 °C (approx. 2890 °F) and above its boiling point around 3000 C (approx. 5430 °F). In the pictures down below, super hot groups of steel pillars and columns, torn from wall by pressure wave, are sublimized. They immediately turn into a vaporized form, binding heat as quickly as possible. Bursts upwards, even visible in the picture below, are not possible for a gravitational collapse or for cutting charges which are used horizontally.

Chief of Staff says war is a hoax to justify creation of world government body

General Leonid Ivashov | January 23 2006

General Leonid Ivashov was the Chief of Staff of the Russian armed forces when the September 11, 2001, attacks took place. This military man, who lived the events from the inside, offers an analysis which is very different to that of his American colleagues. As he did during the Axis for Peace 2005 conference, he now explains that international terrorism does not exist and that the September 11 attacks were the result of a set-up. What we are seeing is a manipulation by the big powers; this terrorism would not exist without them. He affirms that, instead of faking a "world war on terror", the best way to reduce that kind of attacks is through respect for international law and peaceful cooperation among countries and their citizens.

General Leonid Ivashov (left) at the Axis for Peace Conference 2005 in Brussels, with Webster Tarpley

As the current international situation shows, terrorism emerges where contradiction aggravate, where there is a change of social relations or a change of regime, where there is political, economic or social instability, where there is moral decadence, where cynicism and nihilism triumph, where vice is legalized and where crime spreads.

It is globalization what creates the conditions for the emergence of these extremely dangerous phenomena. It is in this context that the new world geo-strategic map is being designed, that the resources of the planet are being re-distributed, that borders are disappearing, that international law is being torn into pieces, that cultural identities are being erased, that spiritual life becomes impoverished...

The analysis of the essence of the globalization process, the military and political doctrines of the United States and other countries, shows that terrorism contributes to a world dominance and the submissiveness of states to a global oligarchy. This means that terrorism is not something independent of world politics but simply an instrument, a means to install a unipolar world with a sole world headquarters, a pretext to erase national borders and to establish the rule of a new world elite. It is precisely this elite that constitutes the key element of world terrorism, its ideologist and its "godfather". The main target of the world elite is the historical, cultural, traditional and natural reality; the existing system of relations among states; the world national and state order of human civilization and national identity.

Today's international terrorism is a phenomenon that combines the use of terror by state and non-state political structures as a means to attain their political objectives through people's intimidation, psychological and social destabilization, the elimination of resistance from power organizations and the creation of appropriate conditions for the manipulation of the countries' policies and the behavior of people.

Terrorism is the weapon used in a new type of war. At the same time, international terrorism, in complicity with the media, becomes the manager of global processes. It is precisely the symbiosis between media and terror, which allows modifying international politics and the exiting reality.

In this context, if we analyze what happened on September 11, 2001, in the United States, we can arrive at the following conclusions:

1. The organizers of those attacks were the political and business circles interested in destabilizing the world order and who had the means necessary to finance the operation. The political conception of this action matured there where tensions emerged in the administration of financial and other types of resources. We have to look for the reasons of the attacks in the coincidence of interests of the big capital at global and transnational levels, in the circles that were not satisfied with the rhythm of the globalization process or its direction. Unlike traditional wars, whose conception is determined by generals and politicians, the oligarchs and politicians submitted to the former were the ones who did it this time.

2. Only secret services and their current chiefs - or those retired but still having influence inside the state organizations - have the ability to plan, organize and conduct an operation of such magnitude. Generally, secret services create, finance and control extremist organizations. Without the support of secret services, these organizations cannot exist - let alone carry out operations of such magnitude inside countries so well protected. Planning and carrying out an operation on this scale is extremely complex.

3. Osama bin Laden and "Al Qaeda" cannot be the organizers nor the performers of the September 11 attacks. They do not have the necessary organization, resources or leaders. Thus, a team of professionals had to be created and the Arab kamikazes are just extras to mask the operation.

The September 11 operation modified the course of events in the world in the direction chosen by transnational mafias and international oligarchs; that is, those who hope to control the planet's natural resources, the world information network and the financial flows. This operation also favored the US economic and political elite that also seeks world dominance.

The use of the term "international terrorism" has the following goals:

Hiding the real objectives of the forces deployed all over the world in the struggle for dominance and control;

Turning the people's demands to a struggle of undefined goals against an invisible enemy;

Destroying basic international norms and changing concepts such as: aggression, state terror, dictatorship or movement of national liberation;

Depriving peoples of their legitimate right to fight against aggressions and to reject the work of foreign intelligence services;

Establishing the principle of renunciation to national interests, transforming objectives in the military field by giving priority to the war on terror, violating the logic of military alliances to the detriment of a joint defense and to favor the anti-terrorist coalition;

Solving economic problems through a tough military rule using the war on terror as a pretext. In order to fight in an efficient way against international terrorism it is necessary to take the following steps:

To confirm before the UN General Assembly the principles of the UN Charter and international law as principles that all states are obliged to respect;

To create a geo-strategic organization (perhaps inspired in the Cooperation Organization of Shanghai comprised of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) with a set of values different to that of the Atlantists; to design a strategy of development of states, a system of international security, another financial and economic model (which would mean that the world would again rest on two pillars);

To associate (under the United Nations) the scientific elites in the design and promotion of the philosophical concepts of the Human Being of the 21st Century.

To organize the interaction of all religious denominations in the world, on behalf of the stability of humanity's development, security and mutual support.

General Leonid Ivashov is the vice-president of the Academy on geopolitical affairs. He was the chief of the department for General affairs in the Soviet Union's ministry of Defense, secretary of the Council of defense ministers of the Community of independent states (CIS), chief of the Military cooperation department at the Russian federation's Ministry of defense and Joint chief of staff of the Russian armies.

Russian MP Says US To Attack Iran Late March

Muslim riots a US psyop aimed at getting EU support for war

Paul Joseph Watson

February 7 2006

A top Russian parliamentary leader has told Ekho Moskvy radio station that an attack on Iran is inevitable and that it will occur on March 28th. The leader of the Liberal Democrats Vladimir Zhirinovsky also believes that the Muslim riots were orchestrated by the US to garner European backing for the military strike.

Rhetoric has heated significantly in the past week with Donald Rumsfeld yesterday warning that a military option was on the table, echoing the comments of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist who said that the US was prepared to take military action.

Also, Israeli acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stated that Iran would pay "a very heavy price" if the Islamic Republic defiantly resumes full-scale uranium enrichment to build nuclear weapons.

Zhirinovsky told the Russian radio station that, "The war is inevitable because the Americans want this war. Any country claiming a leading position in the world will need to wage wars. Otherwise it will simply not be able to retain its leading position."

"The date for the strike is already known — it is the election day in Israel (March 28). It is also known how much that war will cost,” said Zhirinovsky.

Commenting on the Muslim riots sweeping the Middle East and Europe, Zhirinovsky (pictured above) said that the publication of the offensive cartoons was a planned psyop on the part of the US and aimed to “provoke a row between Europe and the Islamic world”.

“It will all end with European countries thanking the United States and paying, and giving soldiers,” said Zhirinovsky.

The possible inorganic manufactured nature of the riots has to be seriously considered. The three most offensive cartoons that caused the outrage were not even printed in the Danish Jyllands-Posten newspaper but were added in and handed out by Danish imams who “circulated the images to brethren in Muslim countries,” according to the London Telegraph.

It also appears highly suspicious that Muslims in Gaza City and other places had gained access to a plentiful supply of Danish flags to burn in front of the waiting world media as soon as the controversy broke out.

It now comes to light that Merete Eldrup, managing director of JP/Politikens Hus, the company that published the cartoons, is the wife of Anders Eldrup. Anders Eldrup is a Bilderberg member who has attended the last five Bilderberg meetings. The Bilderberg Group is a shadowy organization that meets once a year to steer global policy. It is now widely acknowledged that Bilderberg set the date for the March 2003 invasion of Iraq.

The violent demonstrations, on the back of last November's French riots, are clearly having the effect of hardening European sympathy towards Muslims, even as the governments of major European countries open the floodgates to mass immigration. This greases the skids for an accelerated invasion of Iran who yesterday announced they were cutting trade with Denmark over the offensive cartoons.

Director of the Russian Political Research Institute Sergei Markov previously warned that Israel was likely to conduct air strikes against Iran in the spring.

The window of opportunity seems to be forming for the US and Israel. The White House meeting memo proves that UN consultations and possible sanctions are mere window dressing for a plan of action that has already been decided upon. What remains to be seen is if the US or Israel will attempt to manufacture a staged war provocation to goad the Iranians into signing their own death warrant. The memo, released by QC Philippe Sands, contained details of a discussion between Tony Blair and George Bush where a plan to paint a US spy plane in UN colors and fly it low over Iraq in the hope that Saddam would order it shot down was debated.

A 'Dangerous Moment' for Europe and Islam
As Islamic protests grew against the publication in Europe of cartoons lampooning the Prophet Muhammad, a small Arab movement responded with a drawing on its Web site of Hitler in bed with Anne Frank. "Write this one in your diary, Anne," Hitler was shown as saying. Such contrasts have produced a worrisome sense that the conflict over the cartoons has pushed both sides across an unexpected threshold, where they view each other with miscomprehension and suspicion.

The Cartoon Hoax

From the desk of Paul Belien

Radical Danish imams have deliberately incited hatred against Denmark, the country that had hospitably welcomed them in. To this end, while on a visit to Arab countries last month, they added three false, extremely offensive Muhammad “cartoons” to the twelve relatively mild ones published by Jyllands-Posten last September [see the latter here, halfway down the page].

One of the three additional cartoons [we linked to them in this article], which the imams distributed on a faxed image of appalling quality, was said to be a depiction of Muhammad with a pigsnout. When the Danish press discovered the three false so-called Danish cartoons, the imams refused to say where they had got them. They claimed, however, that the false cartoons were genuinely Danish and had been added to “give an insight in how hateful the atmosphere in Denmark is towards Muslims.”

The Brussels Journal has always doubted whether the cartoons added by the imams were genuine. Whenever we mentioned them we explicitly wondered whether they were not “of the imam’s own making.” Certain Western mainstream media, however, such as the Australian network SBS and the British BBC authoritatively declared that the pigsnout was one of Jyllands-Posten’s cartoons.

Yesterday an American blogger discovered where the “pigsnout Muhammad” comes from. It has no relation to Muhammad whatsoever, it is not even a cartoon, but a fax image of a photo of a French clown performing at a pig festival.

"Muhammad" according to the imams

Denmark is being punished at the instigation of radical imams because twelve cartoonists have depicted Muhammad. However, these imams created their own three Muhammad images. They have even presented a French clown as being Muhammad. Because the twelve JP cartoonists are not Muslims, the Muslim blasphemy laws do not apply to them. But these laws do apply to the imams. Consequently, these imams deserve death. They – and no-one else – depicted the prophet as a pig – the highest imaginable insult in Islam.

In his letter of “apology” Jyllands-Posten editor Carsten Juste wrote:
“In our opinion the 12 cartoons were moderate and not intended to be insulting. They did not go against Danish laws, but have evidently offended many Muslims, for which we apologize. Meanwhile a couple of offending cartoons have circulated in the Muslim world which were never published in Jyllands-Posten and which we would never have published if they had been offered to us. We would have dismissed them on the grounds that they breached our ethical limits.”

Indeed, the three cartoons breaching the paper’s ethical limits have been made by fanatical Muslim clerics themselves in order to set the world ablaze and provoke a religious war with the West.

Even under Western law the Danish radical imams belong in jail. Their hate crime must be punished. The imams are the hate preachers who are responsible for the destruction and the fatalities that resulted from their lies and their blasphemy. One of these lying imams is Ahmed Abdel Rahman Abu Laban. He works as a translator and distributor of an al-Qaeda related publication.

Western papers and blogs that published the twelve cartoons were right to do so. If they had not published, no-one would have been able to ascertain that the pigsnout was not among them. If they had not published, the cheating, blasphemous imams would have got away with their lies. The public is served by information, never harmed by it. Let this be a lesson to the cowards of The Guardian, SBS, the BBC and the British and American mainstream media, who “out of respect” for Islam would have allowed blasphemous imams to get away with their gross insult of the prophet, with slander and libel, and with the violent acts which they instigated.

Meanwhile, Muslim moderates have established a website to apologize to Denmark and Norway (though in our opinion the Norwegian government does not deserve it).

They write: In the middle of all the mayhem surrounding the Danish cartoons controversy, a group of Arab and Muslim youth have set up this website to express their honest opinion, as a small attempt to show the world that the images shown of Arab and Muslim anger around the world are not representative of the opinions of all Arabs. We whole-heartedly apologize to the people of Denmark, Norway and all the European Union over the actions of a few, and we completely condemn all forms of vandalism and incitement to violence that the Arab and Muslim world have witnessed. We hope that this sad episode will not tarnish the great friendship that our peoples have fostered over decades.

Meanwhile, too, an American blogger is currently updating his “Country Report Card” on how the various governments and nations react to the cartoon scandal. He has given an A to the governments of Denmark, France and Germany; and an F to those of Norway, Britain and Poland. The U.S. government got a D. Governments that got grades below C should be ashamed of themselves.

Prophet Muhammad said “You do not do evil to those who do evil to you, but you deal with them with forgiveness and kindness." That description of Islam's Prophet Muhammad is a summary of how he reacted to personal attacks and abuse. Islamic traditions include a number of instances of the prophet having the opportunity to strike back at those who attacked him, but refraining from doing so. These traditions are particularly important as we witness outrage in the Islamic world over cartoons, initially published in a Danish newspaper, that were viewed as intentional attacks on the prophet.

Peaceful and not-so-peaceful protests have occurred from Gaza to Indonesia. Boycotts have targeted companies based in Denmark and in other nations that reprinted the offensive caricatures. We all, Muslims and people of other faiths, seem to be locked into a downward spiral of mutual mistrust and hostility based on self-perpetuating stereotypes.

As Muslims, we need to take a step back and ask ourselves, "What would the Prophet Muhammad do?"

Muslims are taught the story of the woman who would regularly throw trash on the prophet as he walked down a particular path. The prophet never responded in kind to the woman's abuse. Instead, when she one day failed to attack him, he went to her home to inquire about her condition.

A companion of the prophet noted his forgiving disposition. He said: "I served the prophet for ten years, and he never said 'uf' (a word indicating impatience) to me and never blamed me by saying, 'Why did you do so or why didn't you do so?'"
Even when the prophet was in a position of power, he chose the path of kindness and reconciliation. In the Quran, Islam's revealed text, God states: "When (the righteous) hear vain talk, they withdraw from it saying: 'Our deeds are for us and yours for you; peace be on to you. We do not desire the way of the ignorant'. . .O Prophet (Muhammad), you cannot give guidance to whom you wish, it is God Who gives guidance to whom He pleases, and He is quite aware of those who are guided." If you can't stand our culture - go home to your country...there you don't have to bear our point of view of freedom. You guys came to OUR countries, to OUR with it or not. If you don't accept our cultures - go away.

And: who's terrorizing muslims nowadays ? I doubt it's Denmark, Germany or Norway. Don't get confused about things. The fact is that your cukture breads out terrorists who bomb buildings just because they're western. You don't get them under control - and it really seems a lot like it's a part of your culture to even support those guys.

I would like to know how you'd feel if we'd bomb muslim shops, burn your flags and even chase Muslims in our countries by the governments (I guess you know where Egypt and Sudan are..don't you ?).

For all those making gross generalizations about Islam: Please, for me, go speak with a muslim. They represent the second largest religion in the world, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one. Find out what he or she thinks about the violence before you condemn such a massive group en masse.

For Muslims out there who are willing to address this issue in the face of such hatred from others: We thank you. We know that your Islamic theology of tolerance and peace will ultimately prevail over extremist ideologues from both the North and the South Hemispheres...the West and the Middle East.

For both: Guess what, we don't live in seperate civilizations. We are one complete world together as a community. Words like "us" and "they" no longer apply. We ALL need to work together for peace in this world. This is not to say that Western values need to be adopted worldwide. Arab culture is rich in tradition and history. If it were not for Arabic scholarly advances, we would never even remember who Aristotle was today.

Alright, I am a Muslim and I am only 14 years old. Even I know that it is ridiculous what Muslim EXTREMISTS have done, but that is NOT what our religion preaches. Does any religion? No, but people from every religion have acted violently throughout history. It's just the way it is, and I am disgusted that right now certain Muslims are acting this way, but that definitely is not a reason to blame every Muslim for the actions of a few. If you were a teacher, would you punish an entire classroom just because two students skipped class? Of course not, what have the rest of the children done wrong? That is exactly what the situation today is and it is injustice to hold every Muslim responsible.

As for the cartoons, yes I am offended. Mohammed (pbuH) is a Prophet to Muslims, and it should be prohibited to depict Him in any way. Why? That's what muslims believe, and people should respect this. The practice of worshipping idols is not allowed whatsoever in Islam, and that is why so many Muslims have been offended just like me. But what about Hindu Gods and Buddha? The perspective changes with them. Their religions do allow them to be depicted and therefore Hindus and Buddhists should not be offended by pictures of them. The perspective changes, however, again when their depiction is in a cartoon and they are being disrespected in any way. If this is the case, Buddhists and Hindus should be allowed to speak up and stand up for their religion, but no violence should come out of this, and the offender should fess up and simply change the cartoon. It is simply a cartoon to him and everyone else, but to those who have been offended, it is much deeper than that. This is the exact same conflict occuring with the Danish cartoon. It simply should never have occured in the first place.

Why the European Press is Provoking Muslims

4 Feb 2006

In Response To: How "Jewish" Zionists Fuel Hostility to Muslims (ChristopherBollyn)

by Christopher Bollyn American Free Press

Under the guise of free speech, a leading Danish newspaper published a dozen provocative anti-Islamic cartoons clearly designed to offend Muslims. The predictable result has greatly increased the possibility of violence and left Denmark in a costly and dangerous predicament.

Four months after Jyllands-Posten (JP), Denmark's most widely read morning paper, published 12 anti-Islamic cartoons, Danes woke up to the fact that there is a very high price to be paid for promoting the "clash of civilizations."

The fact that the editors behind the anti-Islamic images claim to be exercising free speech while refusing to address Europe's strict censorship laws regarding discussion of the Holocaust and the ongoing imprisonment of historical revisionists reveals the existence of a more sinister agenda behind the provocative cartoons.

"Agents of certain persuasion" are behind the egregious affront to Islam in order to provoke Muslims, Professor Mikael Rothstein of the University of Copenhagen told the BBC. The key "agent" is Flemming Rose, the cultural editor of JP, who commissioned cartoonists to produce the blasphemous images and then published them in Denmark's leading morning paper last September.

The International Herald Tribune, which reported on the offensive cartoons on January 1, noted that even the liberalism of Rose had its limits when it came to criticism of Zionist leaders and their crimes. Rose also has clear ties to the Zionist Neo-Cons behind the "war on terror."

Rose told the international paper owned by The New York Times that "he would not publish a cartoon of Israel's Ariel Sharon strangling a Palestinian baby, since that could be construed as 'racist.'"

Asked why he was protecting Sharon, a known war criminal, while abusing Muslims and their Prophet in the name of free speech, Rose told American Free Press that he had been "misquoted" in the Times article.

Rose traveled to Philadelphia in October 2004 to visit Daniel Pipes, the Neo-Con ideologue who says the only path to Middle East peace will come through a total Israeli military victory. Rose then penned a positive article about Pipes, who compares "militant Islam" with fascism and communism.

In April 2003, President George W. Bush nominated the rabid anti-Muslim Pipes to the board of the United States Institute of Peace, a congressionally sponsored think tank dedicated to "the peaceful resolution of international conflicts."

Ministers from 17 Muslim nations condemned the publication of the cartoons as an egregious "offence to Islam" and called on the Danish government to ensure that it would not be repeated.

When the Danish government, which supports the "war on terror" with more than 500 troops in Iraq, refused to issue an apology for the offensive cartoons, Muslim consumers across the Middle East began a boycott of Danish products.

Within days the boycott had severely affected Danish exporters and the politicians in Copenhagen scrambled to undo the damage. Arla Foods, a large Danish-Swedish dairy company, was badly hit by the boycott. The company, which had annual sales of some $480 million in the Middle East, saw its sales in the region plummet to nil as Muslim shopkeepers pulled Danish products off the shelves.

"We have taken 40 years to build up a very big business in the Middle East, and we've seen it come to a complete stop in five days," company spokeswoman Astrid Gade Niels told the BBC.

"Our sales in the Middle East have come to a complete stop - in all countries in the region," she said. "We have found ourselves in the middle of a game that we have no part in."

As the boycott damaged Danish business and a bomb scare closed the office of his newspaper, Rose continued to defend his decision to commission and publish the offensive cartoons. "We stand by the publication of these 12 cartoons," he said.

Asked if he would have done it knowing what the reaction would be, Rose said: "That is a hypothetical question. I would say that I do not regret having commissioned those cartoons and I think asking me that question is like asking a rape victim if she regrets wearing a short skirt Friday night at the discotheque."

The dangerous "game" that was started by the Danish editor has now been picked up by at least 7 newspapers across Europe. Supposedly in support of the Danes, papers in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland simultaneously reprinted the cartoons on February 1. The timing suggests that this response was coordinated by a hidden hand.

In Paris, for example, Arnaud Levy, editor-in-chief of the financially-strapped France-Soir, chose to print all 12 of the offensive cartoons. Asked if there had been coordination between European editors about the simultaneous publication of the cartoons, Levy said, "Absolutely not."

The following day, Jacques Lefranc, managing editor of France-Soir, was fired by the paper's owner Raymond Lakah, an Egyptian magnate, according to employees. Chief editor Levy, however, remained on the job.

Peter Mandelson, Trade Commissioner for the European Union, strongly reprimanded the newspapers for pouring "oil on the fire" by reprinting the offensive cartoons.

Robert MEnard, secretary general of Reporters without Borders, a Paris-based media monitor, however, supported the publication of the blasphemous cartoons saying, "All countries in Europe should be behind the Danes and Danish authorities to defend the principle that a newspaper can write what it wishes to, even if it offends people.

"I understand that it may shock Muslims, but being shocked is part of the price of being informed," he told The New York Times.

However, when it comes to discussion of the Holocaust, media monitors like MEnard accept without question the government-imposed censorship laws and imprisonment of historical revisionists. At least 4 well known historians are currently in prison in Germany and Austria for writing and speaking about the Holocaust.

There is clearly a more sinister reason why the Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen refuses to issue a formal apology as demanded by Arab and Muslim governments. The hard-line position taken by Rasmussen, an ally in the "war on terror," has more to do with advancing the "clash of civilizations" than defending free speech in Europe.

It is well known that Islam is an aniconic religion which prohibits depictions of the Prophet in the same way that the Second Commandment prohibits "graven images." The European editors are certainly aware of the fact that Islam prohibits the use of icons or visual images to depict living creatures and that it is blasphemous to publish cartoons of the prophet Mohammed. Yet, they have recklessly and intentionally insulted millions of Muslims and are unwilling to apologize.

"The Danish paper set out to offend and provoke outrage in the Muslim community," a Muslim in Britain wrote to the BBC. "Muslims are able to distinguish between those who wish to debate and those who wish to insult. Trying to camouflage insults under the guise of debate or free speech fools nobody."

There is a deeper reason behind the publication of the offensive cartoons. Given the unapologetic position taken by the Danish government and the editors it appears very likely that tension with Islamic nations will increase and the international crisis will deepen. This is, after all, exactly what the global planners behind the "clash of civilizations" want.

The completely predictable reaction among Muslims sets the stage for violence and "false-flag" terror attacks as Europeans prepare to host the Olympics in Turin, Italy. The Turin-based La Stampa irresponsibly published the cartoons on Feb. 1, two days after Milan's Corriere della Sera.

The anti-Islamic cartoon scandal is no laughing matter. If and when a terror attack does occur and the cartoons and angry Muslims are blamed for being the cause, the reason they were published will become clear. Europeans will become increasingly polarized and hostility to Islam will grow.

A month ago, when I first became aware of the provocative anti-Muslim cartoons published in JP, I immediately contacted the editors and asked why they had allowed their newspaper to be dragged into such a ridiculous and provocative situation.

With Europe already involved in two Middle Eastern wars and with the political tension with Iran increasing daily, I asked the editors, "Do you truly wish to antagonize Muslims?"

"I support freedom of speech and am against self-censorship," Rose, who commissioned the cartoons, wrote in response. It was, however, clearly not simply to exercise Denmark's non-existent freedom of speech that Rose commissioned the anti-Muslim cartoons. The more sinister motive of advancing the "clash of civilizations" among Europeans was evidently behind the offensive images.

"If the issue is really one of free speech, would you publish cartoons making fun of the Jewish Holocaust?" I asked Rose and the editors. "If not, do you at least support the right of newspapers and individuals to raise historical questions about the Holocaust?"

Yet after a month of correspondence with Rose and the editors, they have completely avoided answering my questions about the Holocaust and the right of free speech for historical revisionists in Europe.

Is US Military Dominance of the World a Good Idea?

By Peter Phillips

The leadership class in the US is now dominated by a neo-conservative group of some 200 people who have the shared goal of asserting US military power worldwide. This Global Dominance Group, in cooperation with major military contractors, has become a powerful force in military unilateralism and US political processes.

A long thread of sociological research documents the existence of a dominant ruling class in the US, which sets policy and determines national political priorities. C. Wright Mills, in his 1956 book on the power elite, documented how World War II solidified a trinity of power in the US that comprised corporate, military and government elites in a centralized power structure working in unison through "higher circles" of contact and agreement.

Neo-conservatives promoting the US Military control of the world are now in dominant policy positions within these higher circles of the US. Adbusters magazine summed up neo-conservatism as: "The belief that Democracy, however flawed, was best defended by an ignorant public pumped on nationalism and religion. Only a militantly nationalist state could deter human aggression …Such nationalism requires an external threat and if one cannot be found it must be manufactured."

In 1992, during Bush the First's administration, Dick Cheney supported Lewis Libby and Paul Wolfowitz in producing the "Defense Planning Guidance" report, which advocated US military dominance around the globe in a "new order." The report called for the United States to grow in military superiority and to prevent new rivals from rising up to challenge us on the world stage.

At the end of Clinton's administration, global dominance advocates founded the Project for a New American Century (PNAC). Among the PNAC founders were eight people affiliated with the number-one defense contractor Lockheed-Martin, and seven others associated with the number-three defense contractor Northrop Grumman. Of the twenty-five founders of PNAC twelve were later appointed to high level positions in the George W. Bush administration.

In September 2000, PNAC produced a 76-page report entitled Rebuilding America's Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources for a New Century. The report, similar to the 1992 Defense Policy Guidance report, called for the protection of the American Homeland, the ability to wage simultaneous theater wars, perform global constabulary roles, and the control of space and cyberspace. It claimed that the 1990s were a decade of defense neglect and that the US must increase military spending to preserve American geopolitical leadership as the world's superpower. The report also recognized that: "the process of transformation … is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event such as a new Pearl Harbor." The events of September 11, 2001 presented exactly the catastrophe that the authors of Rebuilding America' Defenses theorized were needed to accelerate a global dominance agenda. The resulting permanent war on terror has led to massive government defense spending, the invasions of two countries, and the threatening of three others, and the rapid acceleration of the neo-conservative plans for military control of the world.

The US now spends as much for defense as the rest of the world combined. The Pentagon's budget for buying new weapons rose from $61 billion in 2001 to over $80 billion in 2004. Lockheed Martin's sales rose by over 30% at the same time, with tens of billions of dollars on the books for future purchases. From 2000 to 2004, Lockheed Martins stock value rose 300%. Northrup-Grumann saw similar growth with DoD contracts rising from $3.2 billion in 2001 to $11.1 billion in 2004. Halliburton, with Dick Cheney as former CEO, had defense contracts totaling $427 million in 2001. By 2003, they had $4.3 billion in defense contracts, of which approximately a third were sole source agreements.

At the beginning of 2006 the Global Dominance Group's agenda is well established within higher circle policy councils and cunningly operationalized inside the US Government. They work hand in hand with defense contractors promoting deployment of US forces in over 700 bases worldwide.

There is an important difference between self-defense from external threats, and the belief in the total military control of the world. When asked, most working people in the US have serious doubts about the moral and practical acceptability of financing world domination.

Subject: Brutalized & Arrested in Cleveland for Posting "Bush Step Down" Posters
Date: 3 Feb 2006

The following is a first-hand account of police harrassment and brutality against a World Can't Wait organizer in Cleveland. If anything like this happens to you, let us know asap! Contact

My name is Carol Fisher, and I am on the staff of Revolution Books in Cleveland OH. At the bookstore we have been immersed in building and supporting the initiatives of World Cant Wait. Yesterday, 1.28.06 I had set out from my house to post materials about our upcoming Cleveland event to Drown Out the State of the Union address, and the call to march around the White House on Feb. 4th.

I drove down a street in Cleveland Heights, another area known for its diversity and progressive history. Before long a cop called from across the street: "Ma'am! Hundred dollar fine unless you take those posters down." He is pursuing me across the street. Damn! OK fine, I say, I will take them down (not wanting to get into a confrontation, because I have lots to do today!) But this too is not enough for the cop. He wants my ID. I say I dont have my ID. He grabs my arm. I say let go of me, I am not doing anything wrong, I will take the posters down. People are watching to see what happens, are outraged but very afraid. The cop wont let go, he clearly wants more grief from me, and he is in the spotlight. He wants people to be scared. He pushes me against a store window and next thing I know I am face down on the sidewalk with two cops on top of me, one with his knee in my back. I am trying to call out to people, to tell them what the posters are about. They keep pushing my face into the sidewalk. I cant breathe.

I am 53 years old, not exactly a spring chicken. A hand comes down again to push my chin against the concrete. By this time there are four cops on the scene. My hands are tightly cuffed behind my back. They lift me up and shove me onto a parkbench and shackle my legs. I am still calling out, telling people what this is about. One of the cops says to me, "Shut up or I will kill you!", "I am sick of this anti-Bush shit!" "You are definitely going to the psyche ward." Then somebody calls the EMS, and a fire squad shows up.

I am lifted into the EMS truck, hands still cuffed behind my back. At the hospital, I am treated as an arch-criminal. Escorted by four policemen, I shuffle into the emergency room, legs still shackled, covered with leaves and mud. I think to myself, if I was Black, I would not have made it this far. I would probably be dead by now. People in the emergency room are shocked by the scene and by what I am saying happened. I probably do look pretty crazy by now.

They put me on a gurney and pull the curtains around. One female nurse and four male cops. I am cuffed to the bed.

After many hours a psychiatrist appears to determine my sanity. I dont want to talk to him, but have no choice.

I dont know it at the time, but outside in the waiting room all hell had broken loose. In a very short period of time, over a dozen WCW people showed up at the emergency room to demand that someone be allowed to see me.

At one point, there was a big confrontation between the WCW people and the police, right in the ER. My supporters said that we weren't going to leave until someone saw me. Some of them were sitting in the waiting room holding the big green WCW posters.

The police threatened WCW folks with arrest! They argued, stood their ground, called this shameful (both to the police but also to the nurses who did nothing to stand against this shit). The cops kept saying that there was no legal right to see me, but people responded that, in Bush's America, the law is whatever the police say it is and that there is a moral and ethical right to to check on someone who is in the hospital.

I was released on my own recognizance. The battle is far from over. This is but one example of the attempts that the state, their authorities and spokespeople will make to try to keep us from opposing the crimes of this regime, and especially now, 2 days before the State of the Union address. Our cause is as righteous as it gets, and no attempts to intimidate or suppress, with threats or laws or physical abuse, should stop us but instead strengthen the resolve, build our organization and further demonstrate to the world that this regime is doomed, they are vicious, and they must be stopped.

As it says in the Call, "If we speak the truth, they will try to silence us. If we act, they will try to stop us. But we speak for the majority, here and around the world, and as we get this going we are going to reach out to the people who have been so badly fooled by Bush and we are NOT going to stop...The future is unwritten. Which one we get is up to us."

How the US military hijacked the CIA

04 February 2006

State of War: The Secret History of the CIA and the Bush Administration
By James Risen, Free Press

IT is becoming painfully obvious that George W. Bush and the US Government are losing the war in Iraq. Indeed, by the northern summer of 2005 senior analysts from the CIA reported that far from curbing terrorism, the war had turned Iraq into a haven for terrorists, including supporters of al-Qa'ida who before the US invasion had no truck with Saddam Hussein.

It's hard to disagree with James Risen's claim in State of War: The Secret History of the CIA and the Bush Administration that in Iraq and elsewhere, "Bush's policies had had exactly the opposite of their intended effect."

In The New York Times Risen has covered national security and the machinations of the CIA for more than a decade. As he points out, it was no accident that the CIA had traditionally been the dominant force in US intelligence. When president Harry Truman introduced the National Security Act of 1947, which established the CIA to counter communism, "one of their goals was to foster a system in which the nation's intelligence service was independent of the military".

Yet under the presidency of born-again Christian and total abstainer Bush, the CIA's power has been usurped by Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld, Vice-President Dick Cheney and a cadre of neo-conservative ideologues who are hand in glove with the US military. This despite the fact that George Bush Sr had for one year loyally served as CIA director under president Gerard Ford until the latter's electoral defeat in 1976.

Risen rightly regards the militarisation of US intelligence as one of the "most lasting and damaging legacies" of George W. Bush's incumbency. In terms of the war in Iraq, it seems clear that Bush has taken a huge gamble with US foreign policy in the Arab world. He has placed a bet that the toppling of Saddam will result in a desire for democracy in Iraq rather than fuel an exponential rise in terrorist activity and other forms of Islamic extremism.

Risen summarises the situation thus: "Bush has unleashed so many competing forces in the Middle East that no one can safely predict the outcome." State of War usefully reminds us that Bush originally intended to pursue a "humble" foreign policy. In a campaign debate in October 2000, he stated: "If we're an arrogant nation, they'll resent us; if we're a humble nation, but strong, they'll welcome us." Yet increasingly after September 11 he has starkly parted ways with the traditions of his father in such a manner as to produce devastating consequences for national security and US foreign policy. Risen concludes that, above all, "it has led to a disturbing breakdown of the checks and balances within the executive branch of the US government". This has been coupled with a new domestic spying network and other forms of covert lawbreaking, the growth of a narco-state in Afghanistan by encouraging large-scale production of opiates, the ignoring of crucial links between al-Qa'ida and Saudi Arabia, and increasing chaos in Iraq.

Living on the Edge: Skirting With Nuclear Danger

Speech by Alice Slater at the United Nations, January 19, 2006

It is an honor to be here at the United Nations to pay tribute to a genuine world hero, Colonel Stanislav Petrov, who simply by his good instincts in 1983, went against all he was trained to do and averted a terrible nuclear holocaust on our planet. He refused to follow procedures that could have led to the launching of the Soviet nuclear arsenal against the United States, after he had observed an unexplained intrusion of Soviet air space on his computer while serving as the duty officer at Russia's main nuclear command center. It is incomprehensible that today, more than 16 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War, the US and Russia are still targeting more than 3,000 nuclear tipped missiles at each other’s cities, ready to go off with even less assurances that an accidental launch could be avoided then we had back in 1983 when Colonel Petrov performed his heroic act. Unhonored by his own country for his extraordinary contribution to humanity, it wasn’t until 2004 that the World Citizens Association acknowledged his contribution. And I’d like to express my appreciation to the Association for bringing this program to the UN today, to let the world know that we are still not out of danger.

It seems, in 2006, that taking US and Russian nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert would be a no-brainer. The “Communist Threat”, used to justify the existence and development of the huge US nuclear arsenals has evaporated. Surely we are in more danger if the weapons remain in their current posture, than if we separated the warheads from the missiles. While that would be an enormous step toward a safer world however, it is not the main task that lies before us. We have managed, under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to keep a lid on the spread of nuclear weapons for nearly 30 years, from the time the Treaty was signed in 1970 to the time India and Pakistan startled the world with a series of underground tests in 1998, announcing that they too had joined the nuclear club, which under the NPT included the US, Russia, China, France and England. Israel had also acquired a nuclear arsenal of about 300 weapons, which the world learned about thanks to another hero, Mordecai Vananu, who spent 18 years in prison for revealing Israel’s nuclear capability, 12 of them in solitary confinement!

But the underlying bargain of the NPT,that the nuclear powers would give up their nuclear weapons in return for a promise from the non-nuclear weapons states not to acquire them was never honored. Indeed, the US is planning to refurbish its entire nuclear arsenal of nearly 10,000 nuclear weapons, with design plans for smaller, more usable nuclear weapons and nuclear tipped underground earth penetrators. Since the time the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty was negotiated in 1992, the US started spending $4.6 billion per year, now up to nearly $8 billion per year, for its so called “stockpile stewardship” program that enabled these new designs to go forward. England will soon be debating whether to replace its 400 nuclear weapons carried on its Trident submarine system. France, Russia and China are also modernizing their weapons.

With the abhorrent US policy of preemptive war, it’s new nuclear posture policy that authorizes the use of nuclear weapons against non-nuclear weapons states, and its designation of so called “rogue states” as the “axis of evil”, we are reaping the grim whirlwind of that policy. We now see North Korea and Iran relying on Article IV of the NPT to develop what is ostensibly described as “peaceful” nuclear technology which would give them the capacity and materials they need to build bombs of their own as a deterrent against US threats. Article IV of the NPT provides an “inalienable right to peaceful nuclear technology” as a sweetener to the countries that agreed to forego nuclear weapons. The current flurry of negotiations and the move to try to control the production of the civilian nuclear fuel cycle in one central place, as recently proposed by Mohammed ElBaradei, the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, simply will not fly. It would be just an additional discriminatory aspect of the NPT, creating yet another class of haves and have-nots under the treaty, as was done with those permitted to have nuclear weapons and those who are not. Now it is proposed that some nations would continue to make their own nuclear fuel, while others, such as Iran and North Korea, would be precluded from doing so.

It’s time to support a protocol to the NPT calling for the establishment of an International Sustainable Energy Fund, as we phase out nuclear power and begin to develop the abundant energy of our earth from the sun, wind, tides, and geothermal sources. Whoever heard of a terrorist attacking a windmill? Article IV’s “inalienable right” to “peaceful” nuclear technology would become obsolete, just as Article V, which provides for “peaceful” nuclear explosions, has been rendered inoperative by the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty which forbids nuclear explosions of any kind. Clean safe energy is available to us now. We have the technology. We need to be vigilant in providing the ample evidence against specious arguments that it’s not ready, it’s years away, its too expensive--arguments which are made by the corporations in the business of producing dirty fuel as they spend millions of dollars in false advertising and planted stories in the press.

These are corporation which don’t want to lose their ability to continue to profit from the human misery caused by nuclear and fossil fuels. The sun, the wind, the tides, and geothermal energy are here in abundance for all the world’s people and they are free. We already have the technology to harness the bounty of the earth. And we know how to store it when the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow, by using hydrogen fuel cells. It is clearly not beyond our financial means, as argued by the corporate supporters of toxic fuel industries-particularly when you compare the costs of clean, safe energy to the hundreds of billions of dollars spent annually to subsidize fossil and nuclear fuels. Not to mention the cost of war to protect those poisonous energy sources.

So why don't we have it now? Why don't we have a ten-year crash program to achieve a nuclear, fossil-free, and biomass-free energy transition? Because of the forces that insist on peddling their polluting and proliferating sources of energy--their "cash cows". Once the infrastructure is created to harness the sun, wind, tides, and geothermal, there will be nothing to sell. It would probably be the best way to end poverty on the planet as well--since poor countries can get free, clean earth energy, abundantly available, and will not have to spend their meager budgets for their critical power needs. We need new thinking and it has to start with us-ordinary people who have no corporate interest in perpetuating disastrous forms of energy on the planet. We mustn't buy into the propaganda that it's not ready or that it's too costly. There's ample evidence that those statements are falsehoods, deliberately expounded by corporate interests to keep their profits coming and to oil the war machine.

Now, with the headlines screaming about imminent war against Iran, Mohammed El Baradei is proposing that civilian nuclear materials be produced and controlled centrally to avoid giving Iran and North Korea the keys to the bomb factory. But going for controls and central processing of nuclear fuels, is like starting down a path similar to the one we’ve been on for the last 50 some-odd years for nuclear arms control. Do you think France, Japan, or the US, for example, will surrender control of nuclear materials production, any more than the nuclear powers have surrendered control of atom bombs? It would be a long drawn-out effort with discriminatory rules in the end-when, instead, we could we be expending our energy and intellectual treasure on shifting the energy paradigm to make nuclear and fossil fuel obsolete. If, as we work to phase in safe, clean energy, we continue to work for weapons abolition, we'll have a real road map to a nuclear free world. Otherwise, I fear we are not dealing with a full deck and are doomed to failure in two ways--halting nuclear weapons proliferation and saving our planet from the ravages of climate change caused by the massive carbon releases into our atmosphere. And don’t be fooled by industry deceptions about how “clean” nuclear power is carbon free. Fossil fuel is used in every step of the process of creating these standing bomb factories-from the mining, milling, and reprocessing of uranium to the decommissioning of aging plants and the transporting and storing of nuclear waste.

What are the prospects for taking nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert and achieving nuclear abolition? Last spring more than 40,000 people marched in Central Park calling for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons on the eve of the failed 2000 NPT Review. More than 1,000 people came from Japan and we had over 40 Hibakusha-survivors of the terrible destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have launched their Mayors for Peace Campaign calling for negotiations for the elimination of nuclear weapons to be completed in 2010 with complete dismantlement by 2020. Abolition 2000, a global network of over 2000 organizations in more than 90 countries is working with the Mayors for a treaty to abolish nuclear weapons. It has drafted a model nuclear weapons convention which is now an official UN document. Abolition 2000 has recognized the inextricable link between nuclear weapons and nuclear power and is circulating a model statute for the establishment of an International Sustainable Energy Fund.

A newly formed Parliamentary Network for Nuclear Disarmament is working with the Mayors and Abolition 2000 to get initiatives started in Parliament for nuclear abolition. Germany has issued a call to work with like-minded countries to amend the NPT to recognize the right to clean, safe energy as a human right and to establish an International Renewable Energy Agency which would be added as a protocol to the NPT. The Global Alliance for the Prevention of Nuclear Weapons and Power in Space is working with grassroots groups all over the world to support the Chinese and Russian annual initiatives to keep weapons out of space which the US has repeatedly blocked. The Norwegian Ministry of Finance has excluded seven companies from their Government Pension Fund - because they are involved in the production of nuclear weapons. A new Abolition 2000 Working Group has been established to work on a divestment strategy. Another Abolition 2000 Working Group is campaigning to get US nuclear weapons out of Europe where more than 400 US weapons are deployed in NATO countries. Working with the Mayors and Parliamentarians, the Belgian Senate has passed a resolution calling for the removal of US nukes from NATO. Next year, a massive demonstration is being organized by the women of the UK at Faslane in Scotland to protest the rebuilding of the Trident submarine arsenals in England. Following the example of the women of Greenham Commons whose 19 year protest and encampment resulted in the removal of NATO’s nuclear tipped Cruise Missiles from the UK, we expect this to be a great civil action that will serve to create a breach in the armor of the nuclear powers, beginning with the UK.

This past fall, led by Canada and Mexico, a group of middle power nations nearly succeeded in establishing ad hoc committees in the Committee for Disarmament in Geneva to begin discussions on nuclear disarmament and a space treaty. Under enormous pressure from the US, they withdrew their proposal, but promised to follow through next fall if there is no progress. The Middle Powers Initiative is supporting this process and other potential avenues to break the disarmament deadlock with its newly formed Article VI Forum. There is a burgeoning grassroots movement for nuclear abolition. The various elements must all be addressed. A realistic plan for nuclear abolition includes the dealerting of nuclear weapons as a first easy step. But if we do not phase out nuclear power and maintain the heavens for peace, we will find ourselves in a state of perpetual war with little chance for a lasting and peaceful nuclear-free world. Humanity was given a great gift when Colonel Petrov followed his human instincts to avert a global catastrophe. Let us not push our luck!

ORMOND BEACH, Florida—An alarmingly high percentage of U.S. military personnel who have served in Iraq have been afflicted by a variety of health problems commonly known as Gulf War Syndrome. Exposure to uranium spread through the use of depleted uranium (DU) weapons is thought to be the primary cause of the high rate of chronic ailments and mortality among Gulf War vets. While initial casualties from the first U.S. invasion of Iraq were light, long-term casualties from the 1991 war ultimately exceeded 30 percent, according to Terrell E. Bush Beckons the God of Pluto: Nuclear Reprocessing

by Mina Hamilton

February 6, 2006

On Monday, February 6th the Bush administration is planning to unveil a new energy policy initiative. After a 30-year ban, the US is about to gut a key non-proliferation tool and resume nuclear reprocessing.

To the uninformed, reprocessing sounds as bland and harmless as, well, processed cheese. The nuclear industry has contributed to this notion by sometimes referring to reprocessing as "recycling".

Quite the contrary, nuclear reprocessing is a dangerous activity that, among other potentially catastrophic downsides, makes plutonium accessible for theft and use in atomic bombs.

Because of atomic weapons proliferation concerns, President Gerald Ford halted commercial nuclear reprocessing in 1976. His decision was re-affirmed by President Jimmy Carter in 1977. Since September 11, 2001 and the worldwide threat of terrorism, the policy makes more sense than ever.

The new initiative sends a confusing message to the world. How can the US government continue to urge, cajole and threaten "rogue" countries that want to reprocess -- while, simultaneously saying, oh, by the way, we're going to do it in the US? What shred of legitimacy will the US have in negotiations to stop nuclear reprocessing in Iran, North Korea or, for that matter, Russia? Will Vladimir Putin idly sit by while Bush starts down this slippery slope?

One reason the Bush administration might get away with this alarming policy shift is that most people in the media, the US Congress and the general public are clueless as to what exactly is reprocessing. A quick look at the nuclear fuel cycle is in order.

Uranium fuel when it is first stacked inside a nuclear reactor is virtually harmless. With no ill affects you could touch it with your finger or stand alongside it.

Crank up a reactor and the uranium fuel fissions or splits. (This produces vast amounts of heat that, depending upon the type of reactor, boils water or produces steam to turn the reactor's turbines.) After this process has gone on for about 18 months, the fissioning process has created irradiated or "spent" fuel. This fuel is now so radioactive a person standing next to it would receive a lethal dose of radioactivity -- in a matter of seconds.

What makes the spent fuel radioactive is stunning amounts of nasty stuff like cesium, strontium and plutonium. Of particular concern from the proliferation viewpoint is plutonium. The average 1000-megawatt reactor makes 350 pounds of plutonium per year.

Finding it hard to conceive what this figure means? It might help to remember that 7 pounds of plutonium is enough for one Nagasaki-sized bomb or for one mushroom cloud like the one Condoleezza Rice exploited to build support for the Iraq war.

One speck of plutonium (aptly named after Pluto, the Greek God of Hell), if inhaled, can cause lung cancer.

The toxic spent fuel must be stored under 20-30 feet of water. Ergo, the swimming-pool-like-basins full of water in which spent or irradiated fuel is stored at nuclear power plants.

Here's how reprocessing works: Remove the irradiated fuel from the reactor pool, chop it up into bits, dissolve the fuel in a chemical bath and you can extract the plutonium.  Now it's available for use in nuclear bombs.  This is exactly how the US obtained the plutonium for the thousands of atomic bombs in its nuclear arsenal.

A highly radioactive and corrosive soup is left over after reprocessing. This soup is also extraordinarily toxic and thermally hot. This liquid waste is so thermally hot that if put into a tank it will self-boil. In other words, the liquid boils without being heated by an external heat source. Thus, it has to be constantly cooled and stored for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Reprocessing in the US has permanently poisoned vast underground water systems -- about 200 square miles in the case of the Hanford nuclear weapons factory. It's also contaminated large chunks of the Columbia and Savannah Rivers. It's left behind millions of gallons of high-level liquid nuclear waste sitting in corroding, leaking tanks.

The launchers of the new initiative are not going to talk about Hanford. Any reference to environmental problems will be glossed over by talking about a new dawn in nuclear energy, "recycling" and other meaningless bromides.

The Bush administration does know, however, that members of Congress and the media are worried about proliferation issues. In their characteristically very-smart- and-utterly-stupid way, they're offering a fake -- and untested -- "solution."

Here's where the administration gets to use the magical word recycling." The plutonium is "recycled" into nuclear reactors.

After chopping up the nation's spent fuel and dissolving it in chemical baths, the plan is to mix the separated plutonium with uranium to produce what's called mixed-oxide fuel or MOX fuel. Voilà, fuel for the nation's 103 commercial reactors and for the next generation of new nukes!

This "solution" is phony. MOX fuel poses a serious terrorist-proliferation danger, because it means tons of nuclear fuel traveling the highways and railroads of America. This is fuel from which plutonium can be easily extracted.

According to Damon Moglen spokesman for the Union of Concerned Scientists, "it's a magnet for terrorists who wish to seize and use nuclear weapons materials." Additionally, the International Atomic Energy Agency categorizes MOX as a Category 1 material. This means that from a proliferation viewpoint MOX is the most sensitive substance.

Furthermore, even with MOX fuel "recycling" there is still left behind (to be stored in leaky tanks for literally thousands of years) an extremely toxic liquid.

Back in 2005, Bill Magwood, Director of the US Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology said, "One test that it [UREX] has not yet passed is the proliferation resistant test." (UREX is the name of the new reprocessing technology the administration is touting.)

Despite the earlier Department of Energy assertion, administration officials now say their new reprocessing technology will be proliferation-resistant. Many experts, nuclear physicists and other scientists disagree. The UREX process is a new, untested technology and the factory to employ it hasn't even been built. And won't be built for years.

So how does the US reprocess in the meantime? Here's the real kicker: Apparently talks are underway for the US to send its spent fuel abroad, possibly to France, to be reprocessed there. This means extraordinarily hazardous shipments by sea, putting the world's oceans at risk and presenting terrorists with a sitting duck target.

Why is the administration pushing such a dangerous and stupid technology?  It's simple. Very simple. It's a giant favor to the nuclear industry.

Reprocessing would takes the pressure off of the nuclear utilities who are sick of having all this toxic, irradiated fuel building up at the reactor sites. It would temporarily reduce the need for the expensive, problem-plagued Yucca Mountain high-level-nuclear-waste repository in Nevada. Most importantly, it would open the door to the nuclear industry's top priority: more nukes.

It's a dream for the utilities and a nightmare for the American public -- and for the world.

Living in terror

The Israelis are stepping up the terror campaign against the Palestinians. Anne Gwynne* from Nablus monitors the horrors from a personal perspective

Whilst we were regaled hourly with the details of the retaliation in Tel Aviv on 19 January, I couldn't help wondering where all the English-language journalists have been this year. For, since New Year's Eve in Palestine, there have been not one, but hundreds of Israeli attacks on the civilian Palestinian population. Perhaps, after reading this summary, you will understand the impulse to retaliate -- 19 January's one -- man gesture can not in any way compare with the state terror visited upon Palestine by Israel.

Since New Year's Eve the "Israeli" military, IOF, have continued with their relentless attacks on men, women and children in every refugee camp, village and city north of Ramallah and around Hebron in the south; these attacks follow more than 22,000 Israeli violations of the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire logged up to 31 December 2005 and more than 33,000 Israeli airborne strikes since 29 September, 2000.

In the continuing Israeli violence this month 584 innocent people have been murdered, arrested and wounded -- 19 of them killed, including a mother and son in Nablus and a small child in Jenin, adding to the 4,670 Palestinians killed by "Israelis" in this Intifada. Amongst the wounded, who include over 100 children, is a whole family of seven, augmenting the total of more than 50,000 Palestinians wounded since 2000. Amongst the captured, a large number of abducted children swells the prisoners' total to 9,200 Palestinians, and increases by 367; the number of children already in Israeli prisons. And, of course, this adds yet more to the 700,000-plus arrested by the IOF since the occupation in 1967. If the tiny Palestinian population is pro- rated with the large US population, the equivalent number of arrested since 1967 is 63,000,000 -- no error in the zeros. Sixty- three million, an inconceivable figure anywhere else.

Since the New Year more than 30 homes have been occupied, each by up to 30 IOF soldiers, with their occupants held hostage, as many as20-30 locked into a single room, some for the past 18 days. Assuming a family average of seven, that is 210 hostages (US pro-rate figure is 18,900 hostages). The object of this terror -- and terror it is, I can assure you for it always happens at one or two in the morning and, while it is not difficult to be brave in the daylight, your knees turn to jelly and your legs refuse to obey when you are awoken by what everyone here describes as "a savage beating" of guns on your door -- is to turn the roofs into gun emplacements and to act as billets for the marauding IOF. So I do feel that we should ask the journalists from the UK and US who live in West Jerusalem why they have not reported this.

There is more. On this violent rampage through the land since New Year's Eve, the IOF have damaged or destroyed almost 200 homes, businesses, police stations and schools, augmenting the five-year total of more than 71,470 homes, 645 public buildings and 316 schools. In the process they have stormed cities and villages on 60 occasions, under cover of air and machine-gun fire, sealing 10 of them (among them Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarm, Qalqiliya) under total lockdown -- no access or exit for anyone or anything.

Since the New Year, the IOF have subjected the civilian populace to more than 100 missile strikes, F16 air-strikes and heavy machine- gunning -- a machine gun is not an M16 which is an assault rifle. A machine-gun is so heavy that it has to be mounted on armour, helicopters or gun-emplacements; its long barrel fires 50 calibre bullets, almost small missiles themselves, at great speed and pin- point accuracy. Go into any gun shop in the US and have a look at these 50 calibre bullets to see what the IOF fire at men, women and children.

The IOF were not unaided, for the so-called "settlers" (actually illegal immigrants or colonists) have continued to vent their hatred on the rightful owners of the land in an orgy of destruction, attacking Hebron city centre as well as many villages, torching and bulldozing 32 businesses, 12 greenhouses, poisoning six wells and killing 600 fruitful olive trees, adding to the total of 1,355,290 already bulldozed (this in an area the size of Rhode Island). Most of these trees are of great antiquity -- indeed they are the stock from which European and US olives are grown. A family can live on the produce of 20 olive trees, which Palestinians regard as a gift from God, and they can live very well indeed if they have 40 of them.

The denial of human Rights of all kinds this month, so widespread as to be uncountable, includes -- freedom of movement, access to medical treatment, access to education and access for ambulances (as well as attacks on them), as well as general denial of movement to the electoral candidates who encounter hourly refusals at the 750 or so IOF road blocks and checkpoints. These are the same checkpoints where people wait hours in the freezing rain just to get home, with many hundreds being forced to strip off all their clothes -- a most gratuitously cruel humiliation for anyone. All Palestinians have to cross these checkpoints to reach any location outside their immediate village.

In addition to all this destruction, since New Year the IOF and the colonists have either directly stolen (the farmers brutally dispossessed) or"confiscated" (stolen by state decree) another 4,700 dunums of fertile land, both for the construction of the apartheid wall and for colony expansion in contravention of every agreement Israel has ever signed. During the past five years colonists and the IOF have bulldozed 76,867 dunums. I don't have the figures for confiscations -- but only six per cent of "Historic Palestine" now remains while almost half a million illegals are living on, and farming, the confiscated land of 16,195 farmers.

This brief account is, I know, almost too much to comprehend -- just imagine what it is like living in this terror.

Mind slave Free thinker
0 (You) 100

Mind slave

You are a total mind slave, utterly controlled by corporate and government interests. Even though you think you are a free person living in a free society, all your beliefs, decisions and behaviors have been decided for you. You are easily to manipulate and represent the "ideal consumer" desired by Big Business and organized medicine. Government likes you, too, as you will always do what you are told and rarely question the reality constructed for you by authority figures.

If you were in The Matrix, you would definitely take the blue pill. In fact, you are much like all coppertops: you think you're living in the real world, but you're actually plugged in to a propaganda machine that shapes your reality for you.

Your architects: The architects of your world are marketing companies, the mainstream media, your peers and government propaganda. Had you been a German citizen in 1939, you would have made a loyal Nazi.

Action steps: If you ever truly wish to be a free individual, you are in desperate need of a belief system overhaul. Disconnect your cable television, stop hanging out with socialite, brain-numbed friends, and start getting your information from independent sources like NewsTarget at or other sites mentioned in the explanation below.

Answers & Explanations

Drinking milk helps people lose weight.
FALSE. The milk / weight loss myth is a clever marketing gimmick dreamed up by the dairy industry to sell more milk by exploiting the desperate desire of Americans to lose weight. Not only does milk not cause weight loss, it contains pus, rocket fuel chemicals and actually promotes heart disease, asthma, constipation and various allergic reactions. To learn more, visit the NewsTarget dairy products page at

Silver fillings are safe to put in your teeth. Otherwise, dentists wouldn't use them.
FALSE. Silver fillings are nearly 40% mercury -- one of the most toxic heavy metals known to man. A single drop on your skin can literally kill you. A single drop in a lake poisons the entire lake. Silver fillings (actually "mercury fillings") generate mercury vapor in your mouth, which you repeatedly inhale or swallow. This puts mercury directly into your bloodstream where it causes birth defects (if you're pregnant) and nervous system disorders like Alzheimer's disease and dementia. To learn the proper way to have mercury fillings removed, see the NewsTarget mercury page at

Cattle in the U.S. beef industry are routinely fed chicken poop, animal blood, expired household pets and other undesirable food sources.
TRUE. The feeding of chicken litter (feces + feathers + other unknowns) to U.S. cattle is a USDA-approved feeding practice that is necessary, says the USDA, to reclaim the valuable nitrogen in chicken poop produced by chicken farms. People who eat non-organic beef are often eating secondhand chicken feces. Don't believe it? Try this Google search at,GGLG:2005-23,GGLG:en&q=cattle+feed+chicken+litter and read for yourself.

People who watch television are not persuaded by television advertising.
FALSE. Everyone who watches advertising is persuaded by it, but no one thinks they are. Consumers believe they are rational decision makers when, in fact, they act on emotional associations embedded in their minds by clever advertising. That's because television advertising is designed to bypass the rational mind and install positive associations with brands, companies and products that later translate into measurable, consistent behavior modification in consumers. This system of influence works very well. If television advertising didn't work, advertisers would have stopped using it long ago. Discover how consumers are easily manipulated by reading Health Seduction at

Food manufacturers offer coupons because they want to help people save money.
FALSE. Food companies offer coupons because they want to sell more of their products, and they know that consumers incorrectly believe that using coupons saves them money. In reality, nearly all coupon-promoted foods are priced at very high markups to begin with. Unprocessed foods (vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, etc.) almost never have coupons, yet they represent the best value in food for your dollar. People who use coupons are getting ripped off even as they think they're getting a bargain.

The history taught to American children in public school is true and accurate.
FALSE. American history, as taught to American schoolchildren, is more a collection of lies and distortions than actual history. From Columbus to the Vietnam War, politically correct American history consistently paints Americans in a glorious light while ignoring shocking accounts of actual historical events. Read, "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn to learn real, uncensored American history.

Many common grocery products (including yogurt, fruit drinks and candy) are colored with an ingredient called "carmine" that is actually made from insects: dead, ground up husks of female cochineal beetles.
TRUE. Just about every container of strawberry yogurt, for example, uses this insect-derived food coloring. Aside from the gross factor, carmine also poses the threat of causing a rare but fatal allergic reaction known as anaphylactic shock. See the CSPI warning on carmine at to learn more.

My government would never knowingly lie to me.
FALSE. All governments lie. They lie about war, the economy, the money supply, and even medical experiments on humans. The question is not whether governments lie, but why they lie. The answer remains consistent: to maintain control. To keep its population in line, every government must shape the information its population receives. In countries like China, this is done by directly owning and controlling the media. In freer countries like the United States, this is achieved through indirect influence over the media. To learn alternative information the U.S. media usually censors, visit or The Memory Hole at

Pharmaceuticals cost so much only because drug companies need more money to invest in finding cures for disease.
FALSE. Drug companies spend far more money on marketing and advertising than on R&D. The "we need money for R&D" plea is a marketing gimmick used by drug companies to make consumers feel better about buying drugs at monopoly prices. That's why Americans pay more for prescription drugs than any country in the world: sometimes 30,000% or more over the actual cost of drug ingredients. And what about drug R&D costs? Much of the research used by drug companies is actually paid by taxpayer dollars via the National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants to research universities. The Federal Reserve is a branch of the U.S. government.
FALSE. The Federal Reserve is a private organization, owned by member banks who are, in turn, owned primarily by wealthy investors. The Fed is neither owned by the U.S. government, nor answers to it. Most Americans, of course, mistakenly believe their own government is in control of the U.S. dollar and national fiscal policy. To learn more, visit The Reality Zone with G. Edward Griffin at

Banks offer to finance home loans because they want to help people own their homes.
FALSE. Banks are in business to make money, just like any other business. They loan people money solely to make a profit. That's why they only loan money to people who seem like a safe bet. If banks were in business just to hand out money for the public good, loan officers would never reject a loan application. Most homeowners, by the way, end up paying for their house three times over by the time their loan is finally paid off with the bank.

The fluoride added to drinking water is sourced from naturally-occurring fluoride mineral deposits.
FALSE. The vast majority of the fluoride added to drinking water is fluorosilicic acid, a toxic byproduct of coal plants. This fluorosilicic acid is collected from pollution scrubbers inside coal plant smokestacks, filtered, liquefied, then sold to cities as fluoride treatment. It contains no naturally-occurring mineral fluoride whatsoever. Most cities and water municipalities lie to their residents and say they're using "naturally-occurring fluoride," when, in fact, they are buying toxic waste fluorosilicic acid because it's much less expensive. Surgical procedures must be proven safe and effective before being practiced on patients.
FALSE. There is absolutely no requirement that surgical procedures be proven safe or effective before being performed on any number of patients. Unlike drugs, surgical procedures are not "approved" by any centralized safety agency. As a result, literally millions of unnecessary (and dangerous) surgical procedures are performed on Americans each year. Learn more at the NewsTarget surgery page at

Private gambling and internet gambling has been outlawed because the government wants to protect people from the evils associated with this activity.
FALSE. Gambling is only outlawed when the government doesn't get a cut from the activity. That's why sports betting in New York is illegal, but the New York Lottery is perfectly legal. Where casinos are allowed in the United States, they always pay a cut of profits to the cities and states that allow them to set up shop. It's nothing more than a classic "protection fee" that promises casinos legal safety as long as they keep sending money to the State. The legality of gambling has nothing to do with right or wrong, and everything to do with dollars and cents.

Inflation is a natural side effect of a healthy, growing economy.
FALSE. Monetary inflation, which saps the buying power of your dollars, is intentionally caused by the expansion of the money supply which is, in turn, controlled by the Federal Reserve. The net effect is a hidden tax on Americans' income and savings (a tax most people never notice). In an honest economy, the money supply would remain constant, and the annual inflation rate would be zero. Inflation is not natural, it's a manipulation that acts as hidden taxation.

Prescription drugs approved as safe by the FDA are safe to consume on a long-term basis.
FALSE. FDA-approved drugs have killed more Americans than the entire Vietnam War, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and all murders over the last twenty years combined. Even the American Medical Association openly admits nearly 100,000 deaths each year due to approved prescription drugs. New drugs are approved primarily for profit reasons (to hype a new patented drug), not safety reasons (many times, the older drugs are far safer). In reality, most new drugs are simply medical experiments, and American consumers are guinea pigs. Even the drug side effect reporting system at the FDA is entirely voluntary. The U.S. is the most technologically advanced nation in the world.
FALSE. Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and many European countries easily eclipse the U.S. in terms of bandwidth, wi-fi and overall connectivity. Japan leads the world in hybrid vehicle technology and robotics research. Canada is a world leader in fuel cell technology, far surpassing the United States. India now graduates ten times as many engineers as the U.S., and China is fast becoming a major technical contender as well. The U.S. has fundamentally lost its manufacturing technology base, and its universities no longer dominate the world's technical learning institutions. Although the U.S. is still a technology player in the global marketplace, it is clearly no longer the most technologically advanced nation in the world.

Processed and packaged meat products (hot dogs, bacon, sausage, etc.) are preserved with an ingredient that both the food industry and the USDA absolutely know causes cancer.
TRUE. The ingredient's name is sodium nitrite, and it's found in practically all packaged meats at any grocery store in America. Both the food industry and the USDA have known for decades that this ingredient, when consumed, creates a class of chemical compounds known as nitrosamines which are highly carcinogenic (cancer-causing). The USDA actually tried to ban sodium nitrite in the 1970's, but was overruled by the food industry, which wanted to keep using the ingredient because it turns meats bright red, making them look fresh. Learn more shocking information at the sodium nitrite page at

Buying a home is one of the best financial investments you can make, and home prices will always continue to rise.
FALSE. This lie is promoted by banks and proponents of the real estate industry. Much like the dot-com boom (and bust) of 1996 - 2001, the current housing market in the U.S. is a bubble just begging for a correction. How do we know? There are several ways, but some no-brainer signals include the sharp increase in no-down-payment home loans, the increasing reliance on "interest-only" payment schemes, and the increasing glut in homes for rent (purchased as rental property by people who are betting on price appreciation alone to earn them a tidy profit). When the big housing correction comes, hindsight will be 20/20, but right now, the U.S. population is in a real estate investment frenzy.

Medical schools give doctors a solid education in nutrition, disease prevention and healthy lifestyle habits.
FALSE. Med schools primarily teach disease pathology and the treatment of symptoms of disease. Very little time (if any) is spent teaching doctors about nutrition and healthy lifestyles. This is why Dr. Andrew Weil, an M.D., describes his own colleagues as "nutritionally illiterate." It's also why doctors are, themselves, both terribly unhealthy and generally incapable of teaching patients how to make healthy choices. They are, however, fantastic technicians and very knowledgeable about the physiological and biochemical markers of disease. Overall, doctors are great at diagnosing symptoms, but terrible at knowing how to address the root causes of those symptoms. Learn more at the physicians page at

The mainstream news outlets (cable news, national newspapers, network news) in America accurately report war events in Iraq.
FALSE. The first casualty of war is, of course, the truth. The U.S. media, both liberal and conservative, deeply distort war news by primarily relying on Pentagon reports that use a variety of distortions and linguistic tricks to keep Americans misinformed about actual events in Iraq. Solders wounded in Iraq who later die in European hospitals, for example, are never counted as Iraq war casualties. U.S. helicopters are never "shot down," they are always reported as merely crashing. U.S. missiles never kill innocent women and children, they merely cause "collateral damage." Iraqi men defending their homes are not described as freedom fighters defending themselves against occupying invaders, they are called terrorists and insurgents who engage in cowardly suicide bombings. To read the real story of what's happening in Iraq, visit sites like

The United States of America is a Democracy.
FALSE. Actually, the United States of America is a Republic, not a Democracy. A true Democracy (direct Democracy) would allow individuals to directly vote on legislation and do away with Senators and Congress people. To learn more, read, "A Republic, If You Can Keep It" at - a statement by Congressman Ron Paul.

Anything that hasn't been scientifically proven isn't true.
FALSE. There exists an entire universe of knowledge science has yet to discover. Truth is truth, even before science recognizes it. Gravity worked just fine even before scientists studied it, for example. And just a few decades ago, scientists thought there were only four vitamins. There is much that is true, even though it is currently questioned or even discredited by mainstream science. The one thing about science that's 100% predictable is that the definition of "scientific truth" will evolve and expand, often contradicting past truths.

Vitamin E is dangerous.
FALSE. The recent headlines about the dangers of vitamin E all result from an organized assault on vitamins that used blatantly distorted science to produce a false conclusion. The vitamin E studies used for this assault relied on a variety of dishonest tactics to assure a negative outcome. These tactics include using synthetic vitamin E instead of natural vitamin E, relying on extremely low doses, conducting studies on elderly heart attack patients who were near death to begin with, and excluding studies that used healthy people. Learn more at the Vitamin E page at

When you deposit money in a savings account at a bank, that bank holds your money for you until you ask for it back.
FALSE. Banks do not hold your money, they use your money as a reserve and then lend out ten times as much money to other customers. The entire U.S. banking system is a fractional reserve system, meaning only a fraction of your money is held in reserve. Banks are counting on the fact that only a small percentage of their customers will ever ask for their reserves on any given day. Most of the time, that assumption is entirely true, but when national currencies run into trouble and people demand their savings, this fractional reserve system magnifies both the single-bank risk and the systemic effect of bank runs.

All the clean hydrogen we need to power the world is already contained in crystals at the bottom of the ocean called gas hydrates.
TRUE. The mainstream U.S. press doesn't talk about it much, but the world's hydrogen problems have a ready solution. Frozen ice crystals found off the shores of Canada, Japan, Russia, Iceland and other nations with Northern shores contain vast quantities of clean, frozen hydrogen -- enough to power the entire world far beyond the limits of petroleum reserves. The U.S. press doesn't talk much about gas hydrates, preferring to focus on hydrogen derived from either natural gas or petroleum (resources the U.S. tends to own or control).

In 1945, the U.S. dropped two atomic bombs on civilian populations in Japan in order to force Japan's surrender and "save a million lives."
FALSE. Although this was the "official" history taught to U.S. schoolchildren, we now know that the U.S. dropped nuclear bombs on an essentially defeated Japan. Japan was, in fact, attempting to initiate surrender negotiations even before the bombs were dropped. The primary purpose of bombing Japan was to demonstrate to the Soviet Union that the United States not only had nuclear weapons, but was willing to use them, thus cementing America's nuclear stance during the ramp-up to the Cold War. This explanation, of course, remains highly debatable, but the fact remains that even U.S. military leaders estimated no more than 50,000 Americans would be lost in a D-Day style assault on Japan. It's a huge number of lives, yes, but nowhere near one million. The two nuclear bombs, by the way, killed at least 200,000 Japanese civilians.

Having a baby is a patent violation because the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office routinely grants patents on human gene sequences found in all humans.
TRUE. Patents are now routinely awarded for human gene sequences, animals and even seeds found in nature. One U.S. company was awarded a patent on Basmati rice, a grain that has been grown in India for generations. Monsanto recently applied to patent a pig (see at Hundreds of individuals and companies now own patents on human genes, meaning they have been granted the right to charge royalties on all gene replication (i.e. making babies). This practice of stealing intellectual property from nature and claiming human ownership is called Biopiracy. See this Wikipedia entry at to learn more.

People should avoid all exposure to the sun (or use sunscreen) in order to protect their health.
FALSE. Exposure to the sun actually prevents breast cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer and a long list of other diseases, including osteoporosis and depression. Exposure to sunlight results in the creation of vitamin D in your skin. It is this vitamin D that controls the growth of cancer tumors and enables the absorption of essential minerals like calcium. The myth that sunlight is bad for you is promoted primarily by the sunscreen industry and its professional allies (dermatologists). See The Healing Power of Sunlight and Vitamin D at to learn the truth about ultraviolet radiation and your health.

There is no cure for cancer.
FALSE. There are, in fact, many proven cures for cancer used all around the world with excellent results. Nearly every indigenous culture has at least one cure for cancer, including the American Indians, Australian Aboriginees, Peruvian natives, and so on. The U.S. cancer industry simply doesn't want anyone to know cures exist because it profits from the management of cancer (i.e. dependence on drugs, chemo, radiation, etc.). Promotion of alternative cures would deprive the U.S. cancer establishment of its power and profits. This is also why today's cancer industry virtually ignores genuine cancer prevention and, instead, focuses on treatment (drugs and surgery). To learn the real story, read Dr. Samuel Epstein's new book Cancer-Gate at, or visit the cancer page at

All foods and beverages are safe to consume in moderation and can be part of a balanced diet.
FALSE. This is a marketing lie promoted by companies that manufacture disease-promoting foods and beverages (like soft drinks). This distortion claims that all foods are essentially equal, and therefore it really doesn't matter what you eat. In reality, some foods (like soft drinks, white bread, etc.) promote diabetes. Other foods (margarine and any food containing hydrogenated oils) promote heart disease. There are yet more foods (processed meats) that cause cancer. These foods cannot be part of a balanced diet because they imbalance the diet and promote disease. For a complete listing of these dangerous foods and ingredients, read Grocery Warning at

Most common diseases (cancer, heart disease, diabetes) are caused by bad genes and bad luck.
FALSE. This myth is promoted by organized medicine as a way to disempower patients and make them think there's nothing they can do to prevent disease. Diabetes, for example, was exceedingly rare just a hundred years ago. Doctors often had to travel hundreds of miles to find a patient with the disease. Cancer and heart disease were similarly rare. Since our gene pool hasn't changed in a hundred years, the explanation for these disease must be found somewhere else -- namely, in our processed foods, lack of exercise and exposure to modern environmental toxins. Disease is not a matter of bad luck, it's a matter of simply cause and effect. To learn how to really prevent disease, read the disease prevention page at

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a genuine brain chemistry disorder that must be treated with drugs to help children.
FALSE. This so-called disease is entirely fictitious and has no measurable physiological basis whatsoever. Hyperactivity in children is actually caused primarily by poor nutritional habits (consumption of refined sugars and food coloring) and can be easily corrected in less than two weeks by taking children off all refined carbohydrates and food additives. The ADHD "disease" was invented to sell drugs and boost the power of the highly corrupt psychiatric community, which increasingly "discovers" fictitious diseases and treats them with mind-altering narcotics. Has BYU prof found AIDS cure?

Compound could be long-sought breakthrough

By Bob Mims - The Salt Lake Tribune - 02/06/2006

Researchers, including a BYU scientist, believe they have found a new compound that could finally kill the HIV/AIDS virus, not just slow it down as current treatments do.

And, unlike the expensive, drug cocktails 25 years of research have produced for those with the deadly virus, the compound invented by Paul D. Savage of Brigham Young University appears to hunt down and kill HIV.

Although so far limited to early test tube studies, CSA-54, one of a family of compounds called Ceragenins (or CSAs), mimics the disease-fighting characteristics of anti-microbial and anti-viral agents produced naturally by a healthy human immune system.

Under a study sponsored by Ceragenix Pharmaceuticals, Savage and his colleagues developed and synthesized the compound for Vanderbilt University's School of Medicine. In his Nashville, Tenn., laboratories, Derya Unutmaz, an associate professor of Microbiology and Immunology, tested several CSAs for their ability to kill HIV.

While issuing a cautious caveat about his early results, Unutmaz acknowledged Monday that CSAs could be the breakthrough HIV/AIDS researchers have sought for so long.

"We received these agents [from BYU] in early October and our initial results began to culminate by November 2005. We have since reproduced all our results many times," he said. "We have some preliminary but very exciting results [but] we would like to formally show this before making any claims that would cause unwanted hype."
What studies to date show is a compound that attacks HIV at its molecular membrane level, disrupting the virus from interacting with their primary targets, the "T-helper" class white blood cells that comprise and direct the human immune system. Further, CSAs appear to be deadly to all known strains of HIV.

That would be a welcome development for the estimated 40.3 million people now living with HIV/AIDS globally, including nearly 5 million newly infected in the past year alone.

"We have devoted considerable resources to understand the mechanism of these compounds. We think this knowledge will enable us in collaboration with Dr. Savage to design even better compounds," Unutmaz said.

In addition to being a potential checkmate to HIV, the compounds show indications of being just as effective against other diseases plaguing humankind - among them influenza, possibly even the dread bird flu, along with smallpox and herpes.

Savage said he and his BYU research team had been studying CSAs for eight years, noting the compounds' value against microbial and bacteria infections. It was only a year ago they saw that CSAs killed viruses, too.

"They kill viruses very effectively and in a way paralleling our own, natural defenses," Savage said, noting that beyond the obvious use as a weapon against the AIDS pandemic, CSAs could help many others with non-HIV immune deficiencies.

Further, the compounds appear to have few limits on how they are delivered to patients. Although early indications are for application of CSAs with an ointment or cream, pills or injections may also be developed - if the compound gets to market.

BYU and Vanderbilt have jointly filed a patent on CSA technology, which has been licensed exclusively to Ceragenix.

Ceragenix CEO and Chairman Steven Porter said only further research will tell, but he was optimistic about the application of CSAs in the war on HIV/AIDS. There are indications that it could help battle antibiotic- and antiviral-resistance strains of disease as they manifest themselves.

"We are encouraged . . . that CSAs may provide a completely unique family of anti-infectives, potentially active against a wide range of viral, fungal and bacterial targets, including those resistant to current therapies," he said.

Assuming continued positive test results in animal and eventual human trials, Porter estimates it could be three to seven years before the compound is available by prescription. That transition could be accelerated, however, if the Food and Drug Administration should decide to fast-track the drug.

That day is still a long way off, though. First, researchers plan to publish their results in scientific journals, seeking peer review and independent confirmation of their findings. Assuming no flaws are found, several rounds of testing would follow.

Most of the nation's leading AIDS experts were attending the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Denver on Monday. The event's policies prohibits on-site news conferences or releases during the conference, and efforts to reach scientists there were not successful.

Of the few AIDS research luminaries reached, all said they preferred not to comment on the Vanderbilt tests until full results are published.

MAN: "Yes"
WOMAN: "I'm at the mall now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $1,000. Is it OK if I buy it

WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2005 models, I saw one I really liked."
MAN: "How much"
WOMAN: $90,000."
MAN: "OK, but for $90,000, I want it with all the options."
WOMAN: Great! Oh, and one more thing...The house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $950,000."
MAN: 'Well, go ahead and give them an offer of $900,000. They will probably take it. If not, we can go the extra 50 thousand. It is clearly a pretty good price."
WOMAN: "OK, I'll see you later! I love you so much!!"
MAN: "Bye, I love you, too."

The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths agape... He smiles and asks: "Anyone know who this phone belongs to..."
