The Empire of Darkness Series #30: This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine

Hello everyone!

I lost count of how many hours I've spent preparing this compilation — I never keep track of this anyway ;-) — but one thing sure is that this 85 page long diary — or perhaps I should say diarrhea! — contains some of the most disturbing material I've ever networked —and believe me this is no fun for me to expose you with this kind of stuff. Which is why you'll find below to introduce the item 4 below, "Collapse of U.S. Economy Imminent", a dire warning that explicitly warns fainthearted readers to skip this part or risk being pretty shocked. I trust all seasoned readers of these compilations over the years won't be too shaken. Nevertheless it is the overall picture that one can draw from the current news that bothers me most. With the Bush junta being on the threshold of losing its grip — because of the indictments and deluge of corruption scandals unearthed by the FBI — on the absolute dictatorial powers they have bestowed upon themselves, the temptation is great to unleash some kind of last-ditch fake terrorist attempt to terrorize the US public into submission. At the same time, military preparations for a nuclear attack (with so-called "low yield" nukes) against Iran — perhaps "justified" by the fake terrorist attack mentioned above — appear to be all set and ready to go. This would undoubtedly unleash a series of worldwide repercussions that could trigger the kind of global conflict religious extremists, both in the US and in Iran, are hoping to see unleashed.

Faced with all these disquieting scenarios, my sense is that we are faced right now with a major test of our unshakable faith in the Powers for Good to assist us, both from the invisible realms of creation as well as in the physical one, in thwarting all such attempts, plans and plots. This is also a most significant test of our innate ability to remain spiritually centered and efficient and to resolutely continue to shine, shine, shine...

Hence the title of this compilation...

And if you feel UP to the divinely-sponsored mission of SHINING your ALL, make sure to join again this Sunday and the next one to Make Sure Peace Prevail In Iran...

"Have you ever given much thought to what a blessing really is and how it works? Although there are numerous definitions, most of them fringed with religious connotation, a blessing is basically an expression of Good. It is a way of conferring happiness and prosperity upon another, a sign of unconditional approval, and a conduit between souls. A blessing acknowledges the Good that is inherent in our world. Burdens, pain, suffering and lack flee from a blessing the way darkness flees from light. It is impossible to bless someone else without being blessed in return because when our minds are focused on offering good to another, there is no room for thoughts of our own troubles and woes. And in that moment when our thoughts are removed from that which bothers us, it loses its power over us. A blessing is the most divine expression of unconditional love we are capable of expressing. The soul connection between ourselves and those we bless demonstrates our relationship with a Higher Power and allows us to recognize evidence of the Divine in others. By embracing the true essence of a blessing, we keep love circulating. We become One with those we bless. That is what a blessing is. Have you blessed anyone today?"

"The news is full of Iran and we all have reason to be concerned because the stakes are so high and divisions deep. Self-interested politics and power-play abounds and trustworthy leadership is lacking. It's a win-win for politicians and their media outlets because it beats up fear of external threat, of nuclear war, and makes people more pliable and amenable to messages of the "we'll protect you if you trust us" kind. The partiality of much news reporting does not mean we should ignore it, but rather ensure the omissions and spin is balanced."

"Keep your eye on the Abramhoff case. Abramhoff will unlock the door to all of this," said Heneghan who also cited Abramhoff's ties to Tom Delay and the Russian Mafia. Heneghan had his usual words of defiance for the criminals and conspirators within the U.S. government and those foreign agents that have infiltrated from outside our country. "We go where they don't want to go. We are not only going to expose them, we are going to defeat them. And we are going to rid ourselves of them. I don't care whatever it takes to defeat this filth. They are cowardly bastards though, that is what gives me not only hope, but confidence in victory. They will not stand up, they will run. But I have got bad news for them, when they run, we will pursue them. Because justice will be done for the crimes they have committed."

— Tom Heneghan in Update from for January 8, 2006

"I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it."

— Dwight D. Eisenhower

"I know you have a great sense of humor, and certainly a well-developed sense of irony, but this is no longer funny. Maybe it's a new form of Canadian irony -- reverse irony! OK, now I get it. First, you have the courage to stand against the war in Iraq -- and then you elect a prime minister who's for it. You declare gay people have equal rights -- and then you elect a man who says they don't. You give your native peoples their own autonomy and their own territory -- and then you vote for a man who wants to cut aid to these poorest of your citizens. Wow, that is intense! Only Canadians could pull off a hat trick of humor like that. My hat's off to you."

Note from Jean: I found the following message by Kate Nowak> on the ERN guestbook. Her Flash movie is exceptional and REALLY worth viewing. Read it aloud if you are so inspired. It is a great experience! I will soon translate in French the movie and the introductory page on her website and I suggest anyone else with good translation skills who might be interested to offer Kate a translation to contact her directly...
"Great site. I recently created a short flash movie about blessings which is the core of a 100-day experiment to share a heartfelt blessing of good with at least one million people. I thought your readers might be interested. It can be found at
After viewing the movie, anyone interested in joining the experiment may do so. Thank you so much for the great work you are doing. May you and your readers be blessed with all things good."

Float Like a Butterfly (23 Jan 2006)
Julia Butterfly Hill, activist and onetime tree-sitter, answers Grist's questions. Recommended by Susan R. Jason> who wrote: "Julia has long been one of our local heroines here on the California North Coast. We were very blessed to have her living here in this community for several years, two of which she lived 200 feet up among the branches of an ancient redwood tree she named Luna. She succeeded in saving a small grove of trees (including Luna) in the area of that tree-sit, but more importantly, she raised awareness on a global level, of the devastation to our Mother Earth and Her watersheds, brought on by irresponsible, unsustainable corporate logging practices. I don't know how many are aware of the fact that the less than three percent of the remaining old-growth ancient redwoods continues to be ruthlessly and senselessly clear-cut. These forests' greatest value are as ecosystems of live trees, not as for-profit horizontal forests of lumber! Julia is a totally committed activist who comes from the heart, and consistently "walks her talk" and sets a most fine example for all of us. I hope you find time to read this Grist interview... questions can be sent in to Julia til Weds noon, and will be answered in the next interview. Both of Julia's books are well worth the read. They are: The Legacy of Luna... the story of her tree-sit, and One Makes A Difference."

Grizzly Bear in Peril
Urge the Bush administration not to remove Yellowstone's grizzly bears from the endangered species list. (...) Stripping endangered species protection from Yellowstone's bears would open their habitat -- vast wild forests around the park -- to large-scale real
estate and energy development. It also would allow hunters to kill bears that roam outside the park. The state of Wyoming has already announced plans to allow grizzly bear hunting as soon as the bears are off the endangered species list.

Impeachment hearings: The White House prepares for the worst (1/23/2006)
President Bush waved to the press on Jan. 22 after returning to the White House from Camp David. (Susan Walsh/Associated Press) The Bush administration is bracing for impeachment hearings in Congress. "A coalition in Congress is being formed to support impeachment," an administration source said. Sources said a prelude to the impeachment process could begin with hearings by the Senate Judiciary Committee in February. They said the hearings would focus on the secret electronic surveillance program and whether Mr. Bush violated the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Administration sources said the charges are expected to include false reports to Congress as well as Mr. Bush's authorization of the National Security Agency to engage in electronic surveillance inside the United States without a court warrant. This included the monitoring of overseas telephone calls and e-mail traffic to and from people living in the United States without requisite permission from a secret court. Sources said the probe to determine whether the president violated the law will include Republicans, but that they may not be aware they could be helping to lay the groundwork for a Democratic impeachment campaign against Mr. Bush. (...) On Jan. 16, former Vice President Al Gore set the tone for impeachment hearings against Mr. Bush by accusing the president of lying to the American people. Mr. Gore, who lost the 2000 election to Mr. Bush, accused the president of "indifference" to the Constitution and urged a serious congressional investigation. He said the administration decided to break the law after Congress refused to change the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. "A president who breaks the law is a threat to the very structure of our government," Mr. Gore said. "I call upon members of Congress in both parties to uphold your oath of office and defend the Constitution,” he said. “Stop going along to get along. Start acting like the independent and co-equal branch of American government that you are supposed to be under the constitution of our country." CLIP

More Americans Favor Impeaching Bush, Poll Says
After the unfounded claims about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and recent news of domestic spying without warrants, mainstream politicians and ordinary voters are talking openly about the possibility that President Bush could be impeached. So is at least one powerful senator, Arlen Specter, R-Pa., chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

They Know They Broke the Law
William Rivers Pitt writes: Bush and the boys have taken to the road this week to defend the indefensible. To wit: spying on American citizens without a warrant is fine and dandy, because the President can do whatever he wants, because laws are meaningless in the main, because Osama may be under your bed sharpening his cutlass. The road trip started in Kansas and will wend its way hither and yon, spreading bad information and flat-out lies at every whistle-stop.

Bush Administration Launches Campaign Of Lies In Defense Of Government Spying (January 25, 2006)
The Bush administration has initiated a campaign to defend its illegal spying program, employing its well-established technique of brazenly lying to the American people. The campaign began last week with a speech by Vice President Dick Cheney on January 19 and one by White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove on January 20. Rove denounced the mild criticisms made by some Democrats of the National Security Agency spying program as exhibiting a “pre-9/11” mentality, which “makes them wrong, wrong deeply and profoundly and consistently.” Coming from Rove, these remarks are a clear sign that the Republican Party plans to run in the 2006 elections on the basis of a defense of the administration’s criminal policies. (...) The administration’s offensive is designed to cover up the basic fact that the government has been operating a program that is in direct violation of US law and the Fourth Amendment protection against unreasonable searches and seizures. In particular, the NSA spying violates the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978, which was put in place as a direct consequence of revelations of massive illegal surveillance of US citizens and opponents of government policies. (...) The inclusion of surveillance of communications of US citizens under the category of “military action” underscores the limitless character of the power claimed by the president. The principle of the separation of powers is thrown out the window, and there is essentially no action that the president might take that could not be justified using the same argument. CLIP

Bush on Trial for Crimes against Humanity
The International Commission of Inquiry on Crimes against Humanity Committed by the Bush Administration ( convened last weekend in New York City's Riverside Church. In the tradition of the Russell tribunal, the panel of judges at the commission of inquiry heard evidence of George W. Bush's war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantánamo Bay, and elsewhere. (...) Harry Belafonte gave the other keynote address. "When a government fails to protect justice," Belafonte declared, "it is the responsibility of the people to rise up and change the guard, change the regime." In a hoarse voice, the legendary singer charged, "Those who fail to answer that call should be charged with patriotic treason." (...) Dahr Jamal, who spent 8 months in occupied Iraq as an independent journalist, also testified at the commission. He charged that the US military carried out collective punishment in Fallujah in violation of international law. Snipers engaged in targeted killings, and troops prevented ambulances from reaching the wounded and prevented the wounded from receiving medical attention, violations of the Geneva Conventions. The United States decided that the entire city of Fallujah, with more than 350,000 civilians, was "a free-fire-zone," Jamal said. In the attack on Fallujah in November 2004, between 4,000 and 6,000 civilians were killed. The US military employed illegal weapons, including cluster bombs, depleted uranium, and white phosphorous. Jamal accused the media, including CNN, Fox, Judith Miller, Thomas Friedman, Bill O'Reilly, and Rush Limbaugh, of aiding and abetting the Bush administration's war crimes and crimes against humanity in their coverage of the US assault on Fallujah. Harry Belafonte Speaks at Duke (January 16)
Durham, N.C. -- Entertainer and human-rights activist Harry Belafonte spoke for an hour and a half at Duke Chapel Sunday, telling anecdotes about his friendship with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., recounting his rise from poverty to worldwide success as a singer and urging the crowd to pursue King’s dream by helping those in prison, victims of Hurricane Katrina and others in need."Dr. King lives. His spirit lives," Belafonte said to the standing-room-only crowd. Belafonte was the keynote speaker in Duke’s three-day celebration of the King holiday, which continues today (Monday) with a series of "Freedom School" discussions on contemporary social issues and a staged reading of the play "Speak Truth to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark," written by Duke literature professor Ariel Dorfman. It began Friday with a talk by film director Charles Stone III. Belafonte also addressed the recent controversy over his recent trip to Venezuela, during which he criticized President Bush."I go where things are happening and see for myself," he said. "Such an experience recently has unfolded a new set of problems."He said he went to Venezuela after President Hugo Chavez’s offer of help after Hurricane Katrina was rebuffed by the Bush administration. "Our people called out in their pain and suffering and fear and our government did not respond," Belafonte said. "When the Venezuelan government stepped into this hollow moment... our president arrogantly dismissed it." He was harsh in his criticism of President Bush, saying, "Killing is our easiest tool. When you look at the president who has led us into a dishonorable war that has caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people, many our own sons and daughters, I ask myself what Dr. King would have asked..."It is an act that has driven fear and terror into the hearts of the American people. What is the essential difference in quality of our humanity for those who would do the cruel and tragic deed of flying an airplane into a building and killing 3,000 innocent Americans and those who would lie and lead the nation into a war that has killed hundreds of thousands?"Excuse me, fellow citizens, if the line for me becomes a little blurred." Belafonte’s speech was punctuated by applause and the occasional "Hallelujah!" as he told stories from his own life and also urged the crowd to action. CLIP

Belafonte Continues Tirade Against Bush (January 21, 2006)
NEW YORK - Entertainer Harry Belafonte, one of the Bush administration's harshest critics, compared the Homeland Security Department to the Nazi Gestapo on Saturday and attacked the president as a liar."We've come to this dark time in which the new Gestapo of Homeland Security lurks here, where citizens are having their rights suspended," Belafonte said in a speech to the annual meeting of the Arts Presenters Members Conference."You can be arrested and not charged. You can be arrested and have no right to counsel," said Belafonte. Belafonte's remarks on Saturday - part of a 45-minute speech on the role of the arts in a politically changing world - were greeted with a roaring standing ovation from an audience which included singer Peter Yarrow of the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary, and members of the arts community from several dozen countries.Messages seeking comments from Homeland Security and White House officials were not immediately returned. He had called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world" during a trip to Venezuela two weeks ago. Belafonte, 78, made that comment after a meeting with Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. The Harlem-born Belafonte, who was raised in Jamaica, said his activism was inspired by an impoverished mother "who imbued in me that we should never capitulate to oppression." He acknowledged that the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks demanded a reaction by the United States, but said the policies of the Bush administration were not the right response."Fascism is fascism. Terrorism is terrorism. Oppression is oppression," said Belafonte, who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Bush, he said, rose to power "somewhat dubiously and ... then lies to the people of this nation, misleads them, misinstructs, and then sends off hundreds of thousands of our own boys and girls to a foreign land that has not aggressed against us."

Annual U.S. Missile Defense Spending Could Double
WASHINGTON — The annual cost of the Bush administration’s missile defense plans could more than double to $19 billion by 2013, and total $247 billion from 2006 through fiscal 2024, according to a U.S. government report (see GSN, Nov. 30, 2005). (...) The projected growth for missile defense costs corresponds with substantial overall Defense Department cost increases, according to the CBO report. Military funding reached $509 billion in fiscal 2005, including $74 billion in supplemental funding, it says. It says the annual total could average about $522 billion a year through 2011 and $563 billion per year from 2012 through 2024, if historical cost growth and military expenditures to fight terrorists abroad are factored. Alito Filibuster: It Only Takes One
Robert Parry writes: If confirmed, Alito would join at least three other right-wing justices - John Roberts, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas - who believe that George W. 'Alito a Threat to Our Fundamental Rights'
Senator Patrick Leahy argues: This is a nomination that I fear threatens the fundamental rights and liberties of all Americans now and for generations to come. This President is in the midst of a radical realignment of the powers of the government and its intrusiveness into the private lives of Americans. This nomination is part of that plan.

The Other Big Brother: The Defense Department
Late on a June afternoon in 2004, a motley group of about 10 peace activists showed up outside the Houston headquarters of Halliburton to protest the corporation's war profiteering. To US Army analysts at the top-secret Counterintelligence Field Activity (CIFA), the "peanut-butter" protest was regarded as one of many potential threats to national security and began warrantless civilian monitoring.

US Spying on Bush Policy Dissenters
While the White House defended domestic surveillance as a safeguard against terrorism, a Florida peace activist and several Democrats in Congress accused the Bush administration on Friday of spying on Americans who disagree with President Bush's policies.

DON'T SUPPORT our troops. This is a particularly difficult opinion to have, especially if you are the kind of person who likes to put bumper stickers on his car. Supporting the troops is a position that even Calvin is unwilling to urinate on.I'm sure I'd like the troops. They seem gutsy, young and up for anything. If you're wandering into a recruiter's office and signing up for eight years of unknown danger, I want to hang with you in Vegas. And I've got no problem with other people — the ones who were for the Iraq war — supporting the troops. If you think invading Iraq was a good idea, then by all means, support away. Load up on those patriotic magnets and bracelets and other trinkets the Chinese are making money off of.But I'm not for the war. And being against the war and saying you support the troops is one of the wussiest positions the pacifists have ever taken — and they're wussy by definition. It's as if the one lesson they took away from Vietnam wasn't to avoid foreign conflicts with no pressing national interest but to remember to throw a parade afterward. Blindly lending support to our soldiers, I fear, will keep them overseas longer by giving soft acquiescence to the hawks who sent them there — and who might one day want to send them somewhere else. Trust me, a guy who thought 50.7% was a mandate isn't going to pick up on the subtleties of a parade for just service in an unjust war. He's going to be looking for funnel cake. CLIP

The scam of global warming is that we pay others for our complacency (Jan 17, 2006),5673,1687977,00.html
(...) But perhaps the most destructive effect of the carbon offset trade is that it allows us to believe we can carry on polluting. The government can keep building roads and airports and we can keep flying to Thailand for our holidays, as long as we purchase absolution by giving a few quid to a tree-planting company. How do you quantify complacency? How do you know that the behaviour the trade induces does not cancel out the carbon it sequesters? In other words I think it is fair to say that a scam is being perpetrated, but not of the kind Melanie Phillips alleges. We know that climate change will impoverish many people. We now know that it will make others very rich - but their money-making schemes will have precious little to do with saving the planet.

The Swedish Minister for Sustainable Development, Mona Sahlin, has announced plans to break the country's dependence on oil by 2020. Writing in Swedish publication Dagens Nyheter recently, Minister Sahlin said that Sweden had the chance to be an international model in being the first government to break the dependency on fossil fuels. She claimed that, through a series of carrots and sticks, the country would boost its renewables sector and reach a state of energy self-sufficiency enhancing both an environmental and economic advantage. "The whole world is now dreading the problems brought about by dependence on oil," she wrote, highlighting the way that the damage wrought by hurricanes such as Katrina had focused the world's attention on oil dependency. "The Government is therefore setting a new policy target: the creation of the conditions necessary to break Sweden's dependence on fossil fuels by 2020. A Sweden free of fossil fuels would give us enormous advantages, not least by reducing the impact from fluctuations in oil prices. The price of oil has tripled since 1996! Old oil price records are now being beaten at a rapid rate." She proposed a number of measures to achieve these goals including: - Tax relief for conversion from oil, particularly for single family homes, but also public sector buildings to encourage conversion to renewable energy. - Higher targets for renewable energy so that the entire energy supply comes from renewable sources. - Tax breaks for renewable fuels for the transport sector; - Greater research and new knowledge for a renewable society; - Continued investment in district heating -- which has increased radically in Sweden in recent years -- and financial incentives to use biofuels in this. "Sweden has the chance to be an international model and a successful actor in export markets for alternative solutions," Ms Sahlin wrote. "But this requires conscious investments -- not a reactionary policy that obstructs the transition to alternative energy sources and investments in the environment of the future." "The aim is to break dependence on fossil fuels by 2020. By then no home will need oil for heating. By then no motorist will be obliged to use petrol as the sole option available. By then, there will always be better alternatives to oil."

Planet Earth, Year 2050
The authors of the world's most overlooked environmental study held a press briefing last week to discuss what life on the planet will be like in 2050. Six former EPA chiefs tell Bush to cap and cut greenhouse gases
Six former heads of the U.S. EPA -- including five Republicans -- have blasted the Bush administration for failing to act on global warming. In an unprecedented united front, the ex-chiefs, gathered yesterday to commemorate the agency's 35th anniversary, agreed that debating the extent to which climate change is a human-caused phenomenon (a favorite Bushy pastime) is pointless. They want federally regulated carbon caps and cuts. Current EPA head Stephen Johnson defended Bush policies, but the panel wasn't biting. "This is not a sort of short-term cycle problem. This is a major disaster for the world," said Russell E. Train, EPA boss under Presidents Nixon and Ford. "To say we'll deal with it later and try to push it away is dishonest to the people, and self-destructive." Man, the commie pinkos are getting to everybody. Details at

The End is Nigeria (GRIST SUMMARY)
Oil pollution, corruption contribute to hostage-taking in Nigeria
In Nigeria, oil, corruption, pollution, and violence have produced a drama rich with 21st-century portent. Last week, militants in Nigeria's oil-rich delta region took four Western oil workers hostage. Their demands include more local control of Nigeria's massive oil wealth -- the proceeds of which typically end up in the pockets of crooked leaders -- and $1.5 billion from Royal Dutch Shell in compensation for pollution in the delta, like the big pipeline rupture last July that oozed contamination over farmers' fields and a fishing stream near the poor village of Iwhrekan. Villagers accuse Shell of sending thugs to ransack Iwhrekan after villagers chased off the company's chosen cleanup contractor -- charges the company denies. The Nigerian government and Shell reportedly want to pay the ransom and get back to business as usual. Nigeria is Africa's largest oil exporter, and is the fifth-largest supplier of America's imported oil. Details at

We're No. 28! (GRIST SUMMARY)
U.S. environmental performance ranks below Malaysia, Chile, 25 others
We beat Cyprus! Yeah, boyee! The Mediterranean island nation comes in at 29th in a landmark pilot study ranking countries by their environmental performance. The U.S. comes in at a blazing 28th -- just behind most of Western Europe, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Costa Rica, Chile, and, uh, Slovakia. The 2006 Environmental Performance Index -- jointly produced by Yale and Columbia Universities -- ranks New Zealand No. 1 for overall success in attaining such environmental goals as sustainable fisheries and greenhouse-gas emission cuts. The U.S. scored at the top for environmental health factors like indoor air pollution and sanitation, but poorly on agricultural, forest, and fisheries management. The final report will be released at the World Economic Forum, the exclusive annual summit of business and policy pooh-bahs taking place this week in Davos, Switzerland. Details at

Pesticide tests may use pregnant women, kids (January 24, 2006)
WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration would allow some limited pesticide testing on children and pregnant women under controversial rules set to be made final as early as this week. After fielding about 50,000 public comments on its earlier human-testing proposals, the Environmental Protection Agency is setting out final rules that officials call tough and fair. But Democrats and environmentalists are raising an outcry, and courts could remain busy sorting it all out. "The fact that EPA allows pesticide testing of any kind on the most vulnerable, including abused and neglected children, is simply astonishing," Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., declared Monday. The new rules would prohibit regulators from using so-called "intentional exposure" research that involved children or pregnant women. But under what regulators described as "narrowly defined circumstances," such research could still be used -- if the researcher hadn't originally intended to submit the results to the EPA. The Evidence for Ancient Atomic Warfare?
Religious texts and geological evidence suggest that several parts of the world have experienced destructive atomic blasts in ages past. The following item appeared in the New York Herald Tribune on February 16, 1947 (and was repeated by Ivan T. Sanderson in the January 1970 issue of his magazine, Pursuit):When the first atomic bomb exploded in New Mexico, the desert sand turned to fused green glass. This fact, according to the magazine Free World, has given certain archaeologists a turn. They have been digging in the ancient Euphrates Valley and have uncovered a layer of agrarian culture 8,000 years old, and a layer of herdsman culture much older, and a still older caveman culture. Recently, they reached another layer.of fused green glass. It is well known that atomic detonations on or above a sandy desert will melt the silicon in the sand and turn the surface of the Earth into a sheet of glass. But if sheets of ancient desert glass can be found in various parts of the world, does it mean that atomic wars were fought in the ancient past or, at the very least, that atomic testing occurred in the dim ages of history? This is a startling theory, but one that is not lacking in evidence, as such ancient sheets of desert glass are a geological fact. (...) Mysterious Glass in the Egyptian Sahara - The following segment is One of the strangest mysteries of ancient Egypt is that of the great glass sheets that were only discovered in 1932. In December of that year, Patrick Clayton, a surveyor for the Egyptian Geological Survey, was driving among the dunes of the Great Sand Sea near the Saad Plateau in the virtually uninhabited area just north of the southwestern corner of Egypt, when he heard his tyres crunch on something that wasn't sand. It turned out to be large pieces of marvelously clear, yellow-green glass. In fact, this wasn't just any ordinary glass, but ultra-pure glass that was an astonishing 98 per cent silica. Clayton wasn't the first person to come across this field of glass, as various 'prehistoric' hunters and nomads had obviously also found the now-famous Libyan Desert Glass (LDG). (...) Alternatively, is it possible that the vitrified desert is the result of atomic war in the ancient past? Could a Tesla-type beam weapon have melted the desert, perhaps in a test? (..._) If one were to believe the great Indian epic of the Mahabharata, fantastic battles were fought in the past with airships, particle beams, chemical warfare and presumably atomic weapons. Just as battles in the 20th century have been fought with incredibly devastating weapons, it may well be that battles in the latter days of Atlantis were fought with highly sophisticated, high-tech weapons. The entire castle complex, which looks like a combination fortress and ancient temple, was constructed of huge coral blocks, many of which exceed five tons. Leedskalnin built the castle and everything in it by himself over 26 years -- using tools he made from scavenged junkyard parts.

Florida's Coral Castle has attracted the international attention of professional construction engineers, astounded and mystified by the apparently impossible achievement of this diminutive wonder-worker. In the mid-1970s, for example, a large bulldozer was hired to manipulate a coral block equivalent to the Castle's 30-ton monolith; the bulldozer could not even lift it. (...) Leedskalnin never shared the secret of its construction with anyone, saying only that he had rediscovered the laws of weight, measurement, and leverage used by the Ancient Egyptians, and that these lost principles somehow involved the relationship of the Earth to certain positions of the heavenly bodies. Leedskalnin is quoted as saying, "I have discovered the secrets of the pyramids. I have found out how the Egyptians and the ancient builders in Peru, Yucatan, and Asia, with only primitive tools, raised and set in place blocks of stone weighing many tons." The very stones of Coral Castle support his story -- at an average of six tons, they are twice the weight of the blocks in Egypt's Great Pyramid at Giza. (...) Like the enigmas of its construction, its real function is unknown. Why did he make so many sculpted references and astronomical orientations to the heavens? For whom were 25 half-ton rocking chairs designed? To what or whom was his barbaric altar dedicated? What need could have demanded so massive a complex as Coral Castle? And why did Edward Leedskalnin devote his whole life to it? Today, Coral Castle is open to the public as the self-made monument of a reclusive man's mysterious genius.

I was driving near the Boise Air Terminal early yesterday afternoon (January 4, 2006). It had been raining in Boise for the past 4 days and yesterday the clouds began to thin. I caught sight of something strange coming over the horizon from the West and pulled over to watch it. As it drifted closer, I saw that it was shaped something like a snake slithering through the sky. I snapped a photo of it with my Nikon Coolpix 7000 digital camera. Then, I turned around and saw another anomaly in the sky toward the East. I changed locations so that I could get a better picture of it. It looked like the underside of a horseshoe crab. I have no explanation for either of these phenomena.

Iranian official: UN sanctions may lead us to seal off Persian Gulf

By Yossi Melman, Haaretz Correspondent

A senior Iranian official threatened that Tehran may forcibly prevent oil export via the Straits of Hormuz if the UN imposed economic sanctions due to Iran's nuclear program, an Iranian news Web site said on Monday.

This is the first time an Iranian official makes military threats in a public statement on Tehran's recent disagreements with the West.

The news site, affiliated with the radical student movement in which President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was once a member, quoted Mohammed-Nabi Rudaki, deputy chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.

According to the report, Rudaki said that "if Europe does not act wisely with the Iranian nuclear portfolio and it is referred to the UN Security Council and economic or air travel restrictions are imposed unjustly, we have the power to halt oil supply to the last drop from the shores of the Persian Gulf via the Straits of Hormuz."

25% of the world's oil production passes through the Straits of Hormuz, which connect the Persian Gulf with the Indian Ocean. The meaning of Rudaki's threat is that not only will Tehran stop its oil production from reaching the West, it may also use force to prevent the other oil producers in the region (the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait) from exporting to the West.

Raduki also warned that his country might quit from its membership in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Swiss banking giant UBS AG stops doing business with Iran. A similar policy implemented against Syria (January 22, 2006)
UBS AG spokesman Serge Steiner announced Sunday, Jan. 22, that all existing business with customers in Iran will be cancelled, except for Iranians in exile. DEBKAfile’s financial sources reveal that, under the threat of sanctions over Iran’s nuclear program, the ayatollahs and corporate heads as well as the government have begun transferring vast private fortunes out of secret accounts in Europe. The money is being spread out among dozens of banks around the world, including the oil emirates, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia. DEBKAfile has learned that Iran’s spiritual ruler Ayatollah Ali Khameini has transferred his personal fortune of $1.2 bn from the Swiss UBS AG to banks in Singapore and Malaysia. Former president Hashemi Rafsanjani has ordered the removal of two large sums in Canadian dollars – 856 m and 1,425 bn – from Canadian banks to establishments in Beirut, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore. Our financial experts estimate that in the last ten days, some $7.5bn dollars have been drained from private Iranian accounts in Germany, Switzerland, France, Britain and Italy and concealed in Southeast Asian banks. That is in addition to the estimated $23bn in governing holdings that Iran has taken out of European banks and deposited in the Bahamas, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Dubai and Singapore. Rumors began circulating at the end of last week that the two European banking giants, LNB in Italy and UBS AG, were about to freeze Iranian assets. DEBKAfile’s financial experts calculate the holdings in the two banks as totaling $17bn of oil revenues. The Swiss bank appears to have acted on a tip from Washington and pre-empted Tehran’s massive withdrawals which would created havoc on the world currency markets. The UBS AG took advantage of the bank being closed on a Sunday for this maneuver.

Nuclear War against Iran

by Michel Chossudovsky

January 3, 2006

The launching of an outright war using nuclear warheads against Iran is now in the final planning stages.

Coalition partners, which include the US, Israel and Turkey are in "an advanced stage of readiness".

Various military exercises have been conducted, starting in early 2005. In turn, the Iranian Armed Forces have also conducted large scale military maneuvers in the Persian Gulf in December in anticipation of a US sponsored attack.

Since early 2005, there has been intense shuttle diplomacy between Washington, Tel Aviv, Ankara and NATO headquarters in Brussels.

In recent developments, CIA Director Porter Goss on a mission to Ankara, requested Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan "to provide political and logistic support for air strikes against Iranian nuclear and military targets." Goss reportedly asked " for special cooperation from Turkish intelligence to help prepare and monitor the operation." (DDP, 30 December 2005).

In turn, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has given the green light to the Israeli Armed Forces to launch the attacks by the end of March:

All top Israeli officials have pronounced the end of March, 2006, as the deadline for launching a military assault on Iran.... The end of March date also coincides with the IAEA report to the UN on Iran's nuclear energy program. Israeli policymakers believe that their threats may influence the report, or at least force the kind of ambiguities, which can be exploited by its overseas supporters to promote Security Council sanctions or justify Israeli military action.

(James Petras, Israel's War Deadline: Iran in the Crosshairs, Global Research, December 2005)

The US sponsored military plan has been endorsed by NATO, although it is unclear, at this stage, as to the nature of NATO's involvement in the planned aerial attacks.

"Shock and Awe"

The various components of the military operation are firmly under US Command, coordinated by the Pentagon and US Strategic Command Headquarters (USSTRATCOM) at the Offutt Air Force base in Nebraska.

The actions announced by Israel would be carried out in close coordination with the Pentagon. The command structure of the operation is centralized and ultimately Washington will decide when to launch the military operation.

US military sources have confirmed that an aerial attack on Iran would involve a large scale deployment comparable to the US "shock and awe" bombing raids on Iraq in March 2003:

American air strikes on Iran would vastly exceed the scope of the 1981 Israeli attack on the Osiraq nuclear center in Iraq, and would more resemble the opening days of the 2003 air campaign against Iraq. Using the full force of operational B-2 stealth bombers, staging from Diego Garcia or flying direct from the United States, possibly supplemented by F-117 stealth fighters staging from al Udeid in Qatar or some other location in theater, the two-dozen suspect nuclear sites would be targeted.

Military planners could tailor their target list to reflect the preferences of the Administration by having limited air strikes that would target only the most crucial facilities ... or the United States could opt for a far more comprehensive set of strikes against a comprehensive range of WMD related targets, as well as conventional and unconventional forces that might be used to counterattack against US forces in Iraq
(See at )

In November, US Strategic Command conducted a major exercise of a "global strike plan" entitled "Global Lightening". The latter involved a simulated attack using both conventional and nuclear weapons against a "fictitious enemy".

Following the "Global Lightening" exercise, US Strategic Command declared an advanced state of readiness (See our analysis below)

While Asian press reports stated that the "fictitious enemy" in the Global Lightening exercise was North Korea, the timing of the exercises, suggests that they were conducted in anticipation of a planned attack on Iran.

Consensus for Nuclear War

No dissenting political voices have emerged from within the European Union.

There are ongoing consultations between Washington, Paris and Berlin. Contrary to the invasion of Iraq, which was opposed at the diplomatic level by France and Germany, Washington has been building "a consensus" both within the Atlantic Alliance and the UN Security Council. This consensus pertains to the conduct of a nuclear war, which could potentially affect a large part of the Middle East Central Asian region.

Moreover, a number of frontline Arab states are now tacit partners in the US/ Israeli military project. A year ago in November 2004, Israel's top military brass met at NATO headquarters in Brussels with their counterparts from six members of the Mediterranean basin nations, including Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Mauritania. A NATO-Israel protocol was signed. Following these meetings, joint military exercises were held off the coast of Syria involving the US, Israel and Turkey. and in February 2005, Israel participated in military exercises and "anti-terror maneuvers" together with several Arab countries.

The media in chorus has unequivocally pointed to Iran as a "threat to World Peace".

The antiwar movement has swallowed the media lies. The fact that the US and Israel are planning a Middle East nuclear holocaust is not part of the antiwar/ anti- globalization agenda.

The "surgical strikes" are presented to world public opinion as a means to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

We are told that this is not a war but a military peace-keeping operation, in the form of aerial attacks directed against Iran's nuclear facilities.

Mini-nukes: "Safe for Civilians"

The press reports, while revealing certain features of the military agenda, largely serve to distort the broader nature of the military operation, which contemplates the preemptive use of tactical nuclear weapons.

The war agenda is based on the Bush administration's doctrine of "preemptive" nuclear war under the 2002 Nuclear Posture Review.

Media disinformation has been used extensively to conceal the devastating consequences of military action involving nuclear warheads against Iran. The fact that these surgical strikes would be carried out using both conventional and nuclear weapons is not an object of debate.

According to a 2003 Senate decision, the new generation of tactical nuclear weapons or "low yield" "mini-nukes", with an explosive capacity of up to 6 times a Hiroshima bomb, are now considered "safe for civilians" because the explosion is underground.

Through a propaganda campaign which has enlisted the support of "authoritative" nuclear scientists, the mini-nukes are being presented as an instrument of peace rather than war. The low-yield nukes have now been cleared for "battlefield use", they are slated to be used in the next stage of America's "war on Terrorism" alongside conventional weapons:

Administration officials argue that low-yield nuclear weapons are needed as a credible deterrent against rogue states. [Iran, North Korea] Their logic is that existing nuclear weapons are too destructive to be used except in a full-scale nuclear war. Potential enemies realize this, thus they do not consider the threat of nuclear retaliation to be credible. However, low-yield nuclear weapons are less destructive, thus might conceivably be used. That would make them more effective as a deterrent. ( Opponents Surprised By Elimination of Nuke Research Funds Defense News November 29, 2004)

In an utterly twisted logic, nuclear weapons are presented as a means to building peace and preventing "collateral damage". The Pentagon has intimated, in this regard, that the ‘mini-nukes’ (with a yield of less than 5000 tons) are harmless to civilians because the explosions ‘take place under ground’. Each of these ‘mini-nukes’, nonetheless, constitutes – in terms of explosion and potential radioactive fallout – a significant fraction of the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. Estimates of yield for Nagasaki and Hiroshima indicate that they were respectively of 21000 and 15000 tons

In other words, the low yielding mini-nukes have an explosive capacity of one third of a Hiroshima bomb.

The earth-penetrating capability of the [nuclear] B61-11 is fairly limited, however. Tests show it penetrates only 20 feet or so into dry earth when dropped from an altitude of 40,000 feet. Even so, by burying itself into the ground before detonation, a much higher proportion of the explosion energy is transferred to ground shock compared to a surface bursts. Any attempt to use it in an urban environment, however, would result in massive civilian casualties. Even at the low end of its 0.3-300 kiloton yield range, the nuclear blast will simply blow out a huge crater of radioactive material, creating a lethal gamma-radiation field over a large area.

Gbu 28 Guided Bomb Unit-28 (GBU-28)

The new definition of a nuclear warhead has blurred the distinction between conventional and nuclear weapons:

'It's a package (of nuclear and conventional weapons). The implication of this obviously is that nuclear weapons are being brought down from a special category of being a last resort, or sort of the ultimate weapon, to being just another tool in the toolbox,' said Kristensen. (Japan Economic News Wire, op cit)

We are a dangerous crossroads: military planners believe their own propaganda.

The military manuals state that this new generation of nuclear weapons are "safe" for use in the battlefield. They are no longer a weapon of last resort. There are no impediments or political obstacles to their use. In this context, Senator Edward Kennedy has accused the Bush Administration for having developed "a generation of more useable nuclear weapons."

The international community has endorsed nuclear war in the name of World Peace.

"Making the World safer" is the justification for launching a military operation which could potentially result in a nuclear holocaust.

But nuclear holocausts are not front page news! In the words of Mordechai Vanunu,

The Israeli government is preparing to use nuclear weapons in its next war with the Islamic world. Here where I live, people often talk of the Holocaust. But each and every nuclear bomb is a Holocaust in itself. It can kill, devastate cities, destroy entire peoples. (See interview with Mordechai Vanunu, December 2005).

The Role of Israel

Since late 2004, Israel has been stockpiling US made conventional and nuclear weapons systems in anticipation of an attack on Iran. This stockpiling which is financed by US military aid was largely completed in June 2005. Israel has taken delivery from the US of several thousand "smart air launched weapons" including some 500 'bunker-buster bombs, which can also be used to deliver tactical nuclear bombs.

The B61-11 is the "nuclear version" of the "conventional" BLU 113, can be delivered in much same way as the conventional bunker buster bomb. (See Michel Chossudovsky, , see also )

Moreover, reported in late 2003, Israeli Dolphin-class submarines equipped with US Harpoon missiles armed with nuclear warheads are now aimed at Iran. (See Gordon Thomas,

Extension of the War

Tehran has confirmed that it will retaliate if attacked, in the form of ballistic missile strikes directed against Israel (CNN, 8 Feb 2005). These attacks, could also target US military facilities in Iraq and Persian Gulf, which would immediately lead us into a scenario of military escalation and all out war.

At present there are three distinct war theaters: Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine. The air strikes against Iran could contribute to unleashing a war in the broader Middle East Central Asian region.

Moreover, the planned attack on Iran should also be understood in relation to the timely withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon, which has opened up a new space, for the deployment of Israeli forces. The participation of Turkey in the US-Israeli military operation is also a factor, following last year's agreement reached between Ankara and Tel Aviv.

More recently, Tehran has beefed up its air defenses through the acquisition of Russian 29 Tor M-1 anti-missile systems. In October, with Moscow`s collaboration, "a Russian rocket lifted an Iranian spy satellite, the Sinah-1, into orbit." (see Chris Floyd)

The Sinah-1 is just the first of several Iranian satellites set for Russian launches in the coming months.

Thus the Iranians will soon have a satellite network in place to give them early warning of an Israeli attack, although it will still be a pale echo of the far more powerful Israeli and American space spies that can track the slightest movement of a Tehran mullah’s beard. What’s more, late last month Russia signed a $1 billion contract to sell Iran an advanced defense system that can destroy guided missiles and laser-guided bombs, the Sunday Times reports. This too will be ready in the next few months. (op.cit.)

Ground War

While a ground war is not envisaged under CONPLAN, the aerial bombings could lead through the process of escalation into a ground war.

Iranian troops could cross the Iran-Iraq border and confront coalition forces inside Iraq. Israeli troops and/or Special Forces could enter into Lebanon and Syria.

In recent developments, Israel plans to conduct military exercises as well as deploy Special Forces in the mountainous areas of Turkey bordering Iran and Syria with the collaboration of the Ankara government:

Concluding remarks

The implications are overwhelming. The so-called international community has accepted the eventuality of a nuclear holocaust. Those who decide have swallowed their own war propaganda.

A political consensus has developed in Western Europe and North America regarding the aerial attacks using tactical nuclear weapons, without considering their devastating implications.

This profit driven military adventure ultimately threatens the future of humanity.

What is needed in the months ahead is a major thrust, nationally and internationally which breaks the conspiracy of silence, which acknowledges the dangers, which brings this war project to the forefront of political debate and media attention, at all levels, which confronts and requires political and military leaders to take a firm stance against the US sponsored nuclear war.

Ultimately what is required are extensive international sanctions directed against the United States of America and Israel.

His government has now allocated millions of dollars for the Jamkaran mosque to help believers prepare for the event. It is staffed by the Bright Future Institute, which fields inquiries and prepares Iranians for the end of this world and eternal life in the next. The ascetic President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lives so modestly that his only declared assets include a 30-year-old car and a small house, and no money in a bank account. Muslims also believe in Jesus Christ, called Issa or the Maseeh (Messiah), and the Second Coming. It is indeed a foreboding confluence of interests. For our American Armageddonites, the major belief is that the founding of Israel and the return of most Jews to the Holy Land is a precondition for the end of the world, when all the billions of human beings who are not "born again," including Jews who don't convert, will be killed. Born-again Christians (and children under 12 who are innocent of sexual sins) will be "Raptured" to heaven to live happily ever after. (Incidentally, though Muslim and Christian fundamentalists are both known for their sexual puritanism, Muslims dream of a heaven with sex, while evangelicals long for a heaven without it.) Many evangelicals are trying to hurry up the process by collecting millions in their churches to subsidize settlements on the West Bank and to pay for more Russian Jews to go to Israel. CLIP

IRAN: Keeping Nuclear Negotiations Critical
TEHRAN, Jan 23 (IPS) - By allowing inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to visit and verify its nuclear programme this week, Iran has indicated readiness to work with the United Nations watchdog, while continuing to limit the role of the Western powers. Ali Larijani, Iran's topmost security official, told the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Sunday that the country considered the IAEA as the pivot for talks on nuclear energy and stressed the importance of cooperation with the Vienna-based, United Nations body. But Larijani, who is also chief negotiator at the IAEA, added that Iran also welcomed the contribution of all countries in nuclear research and peaceful nuclear activities. "We have announced this time and again and are now stressing it,'' IRNA quoted him as saying. On the weekend, Tehran announced the expected arrival on Monday of a two- man IAEA team and indicated Iranian determination to work with the agency to verify that its national nuclear programme was not military in nature. The visit, officials said, is in keeping with the additional protocol signed by Iran to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 2003, providing ‘'objective guarantee'' that its nuclear programme will not deviate from civilian use. Tehran moved a step closer to economic and diplomatic sanctions today as Iranian scientists returned to their labs to resume forbidden research into nuclear power.

The White House said that unless Iran stepped back quickly, the issue would be referred to the UN Security Council with the possibility of sanctions or other kinds of punishment by the international community.

Jean-Marcel Bouguereau
Jean-Marcel Bouguereau explains how Iran is crossing the point of no return by lifting the IAEA seals on its nuclear research facilities; Serge Truffaut argues that international law on the matter will be thoroughly trumped by geopolitics.

Center for Nonproliferation Studies (August 12, 2004)
At a time when Iraq and the war on terrorism tend to dominate the debate on international affairs, the possibility of an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities has not been a major topic of discussion in the United States. There are reports, however, that the Bush administration has seriously considered this option but opted to put it on the back burner for the time being.[1] Further, on May 6, 2004, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Resolution 398 in a 376-3 vote, calling on the U.S. government "to use all appropriate means to deter, dissuade, and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons."[2] If a similar resolution passes the Senate, it will give President Bush or any future administration the ability to launch a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities whenever this is deemed necessary. CLIP

Why is Iran's new president going out of his way to provoke the United States, Israel and Europe with his brinkmanship over Iran's nuclear program and repeated denial of the Holocaust? Many commentators have put the international posturing of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad down to inexperience and incompetence. But it would be foolish to underrate a man who has survived the hurly-burly of Iran's Islamic revolution and one of the bloodiest conflicts of the past quarter century (the Iran-Iraq war, where Ahmadinejad served as a Revolutionary Guard commander) to emerge in his 40s as post-revolutionary Iran's first non-clerical president. The signs are that Ahmadinejad's rhetoric, both on Iran's civil nuclear program (which the West fears is a cover for plans to produce nuclear weapons) and on Israel, is deliberate and calculated. Like much of his political maneuvering since he unexpectedly won last year's presidential elections, Ahmadinejad's international gestures are probably designed with one principle aim in mind: to ensure political survival in the power struggle that is now underway at the heart of Iran's fragmented power structure. Iraq, Iran and China: a New Global Alliance? Beyond the Ballot

(...) Iran may give up on Western Europe, assuming that it will be unwilling to act independently of the United States. China, however, can't be intimidated. That's why the United States is so frightened by China. China is already establishing relations with Iran -- and even with Saudi Arabia, both military and economic. There is an Asian energy security grid, based on China and Russia, but probably bringing in India, Korea and others. If Iran moves in that direction, it can become the lynchpin of that power grid.Such developments, including a sovereign Iraq and possibly even major Saudi energy resources, would be the ultimate nightmare for Washington. Also, a labour movement is forming in Iraq, a very important one. Washington insists on keeping Saddam Hussein's bitter anti-labour laws, but the labour movement continues its organising work despite them.Their activists are being killed. Nobody knows by whom, maybe by insurgents, maybe by former Baathists, maybe by somebody else. But they're persisting. They constitute one of the major democratising forces that have deep roots in Iraqi history, and that might revitalise, also much to the horror of the occupying forces. One critical question is how Westerners will react. Will we be on the side of the occupying forces trying to prevent democracy and sovereignty? Or will we be on the side of the Iraqi people?

Washington's kneejerk belligerence ignores Tehran's influence and the need for subtle engagement
Never pick a fight you know you cannot win. Or so I was told. Pick an argument if you must, but not a fight. Nothing I have read or heard in recent weeks suggests that fighting Iran over its nuclear enrichment programme makes any sense at all. The very talk of it - macho phrases about "all options open" - suggests an international community so crazed with video game enforcement as to have lost the power of coherent thought.Iran is a serious country, not another two-bit post-imperial rogue waiting to be slapped about the head by a white man. It is the fourth largest oil producer in the world. Its population is heading towards 80 million by 2010. Its capital, Tehran, is a mighty metropolis half as big again as London. Its culture is ancient and its political life is, to put it mildly, fluid. All the following statements about Iran are true. There are powerful Iranians who want to build a nuclear bomb. There are powerful ones who do not. There are people in Iran who would like Israel to disappear. There are people who would not. There are people who would like Islamist rule. There are people who would not. There are people who long for some idiot western politician to declare war on them. There are people appalled at the prospect. The only question for western strategists is which of these people they want to help. Of all the treaties passed in my lifetime the 1968 nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT) always seemed the most implausible. It was an insiders' club that any outsider could defy with a modicum of guile. So it has proved. America, sitting armed to the teeth across Korea's demilitarised zone, has let North Korea become a nuclear power despite a 1994 promise that it would not. America supported Israel in going nuclear. Britain and America did not balk at India doing so, nor Pakistan when it not only built a bomb but deceitfully disseminated its technology in defiance of sanctions. Three flagrant dissenters from the NPT are thus regarded by America as friends. I would sleep happier if there were no Iranian bomb but a swamp of hypocrisy separates me from overly protesting it. Iran is a proud country that sits between nuclear Pakistan and India to its east, a nuclear Russia to its north and a nuclear Israel to its west. Adjacent Afghanistan and Iraq are occupied at will by a nuclear America, which backed Saddam Hussein in his 1980 invasion of Iran. How can we say such a country has "no right" to nuclear defence? Thank-you Mr. Bush!
Jacques Julliard bitterly laments the waste of use of force as he considers the danger Iran poses to world peace.

More and more signs are pointing at a fake terror nuke attack against the US on or before Jan. 31, 2006 -- the first day of the nuclear drill to be conducted at Ft. Monroe / Charleston S.C. This is first-hand intelligence, and must be forwarded to all aware patriots. We must begin to assemble and call them to task. Bush is to give a State of the Union address on 1/31, and it will be murder on him with all the failures abroad and abuses at home. A nuclear 911 would put him back on top, and rivet the eyes of the nation on their King George, all asking for leadership during crisis. CLIP

Another nuke exercise -- your next 9/11? (January 24, 2006) FEAR-MONGERING???
Catch this! Some fresh-brewed Homeland Insecurity published today on WorldNetDaily. The Department of Defense (DOD) has scheduled its second major, three-day exercise to combat nuclear terrorism, this time in the Charleston, South Caroline area. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t know Charleston had a nuclear terror problem, shades of Sept. 11, 2001, the day on which some six drills were going, enough to distract anybody from doing anything when the drills went real. (...) In fact, the real danger here is that an administration in danger of extinction itself for its wars, its financial bungling, its corruption, its catastrophic Katrina, its trillions in tax cuts for the rich and subsequent debt, its utterly inhumane cuts to social services, in short, its horrible five years . . . the real threat is that this administration will use this go-real nuclear holocaust to blame on Al Qaeda, and get itself off the hook and hanging platform, and elevate national terror into a national state of emergency, eliminating all democracy, with a call for martial law, under Der Bush & Company. CLIP - THERE WAS SOMETHING SIMILAR LAST SUMMER. SEE BELOW...

Nuclear Terror Drill to Go Live? Let's Hope Not
The event detailed below appears to have come and gone in peace. But we must remain vigilant as the warnings regarding "nuclear terrorism" and "nuclear options" continue from the intelligence establishment, the military and the hawks themselves. In particular, given the recent "natural disaster" called Hurricane Katrina, we should keep in mind the following military press release: (...) As Alex Jones of and others have pointed out, terror "drills" are now known to be part of the cover stories for real terrorist operations, as evidenced by the eerily synchronous terrorism drills happening on both 9/11 and 7/7.Recently, former CIA analyst Philip Giraldi has informed us that "Vice-President Cheney has tasked STRATCOM with "drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11- type terrorist attack on the United States" and that "the plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons." Investigators and counter-intelligence specialists are concerned that this upcoming August nuclear terror "drill" or another to follow might become the cover story and pretext for tactical nuclear war against Iran. President Putin Orders Russian Doomsday Bunkers‚ In Ural Mountains To Prepare For International Crisis (January 25, 2006) By Sorcha Faal
NOTE: Usually I don't trust Sorcha Faal as a source, but who knows?...

Yamantau: What's going on in the Yamantau mountain complex?
(...) On April 16, 1996, the New York Times reported on a mysterious military base being constructed in Russia: "In a secret project reminiscent of the chilliest days of the Cold War, Russia is building a mammoth underground military complex in the Ural Mountains, Western officials and Russian witnesses say. "Hidden inside Yamantau mountain in the Beloretsk area of the southern Urals, the project involved the creation of a huge complex, served by a railroad, a highway, and thousands of workers." The complex, being built inside Yamantau mountain by tens of thousands of workers, covers an area the size of the Washington area inside the Beltway. There are reportedly provisions for living inside the man-made caves. There is an underground warehouse for food and clothing, a shelter for the Russian national leadership in case of nuclear war, and rumors that the Yamantau Mountain project was associated with the so-called 'Dead Hand' nuclear retaliatory command and control system for strategic missiles. (...) In 1998, in a rare public comment, then-Commander of the U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM) Gen. Eugene Habinger, called Yamantau "a very large complex -- we estimate that it has millions of square feet available for underground facilities. We don't have a clue as to what they're doing there." It is believed to be large enough to house 60,000 persons, with a special air filtration system designed to withstand a nuclear, chemical or biological attack. Enough food and water is believed to be stored at the site to sustain the entire underground population for months on end. (...) "Yamantau Mountain is the largest nuclear-secure project in the world... They have very large train tracks running in and out of it, with enormous rooms carved inside the mountain. It has been built to resist a half dozen direct nuclear hits, one after the other in a direct hole. It's very disquieting that the Russians are doing this when they don't have $200 million to build the service module on the international space station and can't pay housing for their own military people."

01/23/06 "ICH" - The Bush administration will never allow the Iranian government to open an oil exchange (bourse) that trades petroleum in euros. If that were to happen, hundreds of billions of dollars would come flooding back to the United States crushing the greenback and destroying the economy. This is why Bush and Co. are planning to lead the nation to war against Iran. It is straightforward defense of the current global system and the continuing dominance of the reserve currency, the dollar.

The claim that Iran is developing nuclear weapons is a mere pretext for war. The NIE (National Intelligence Estimate) predicts that Iran will not be able to produce nukes for perhaps a decade. So too, IAEA chief Mohammed ElBaradei has said repeatedly that his watchdog agency has found "no evidence" of a nuclear weapons program.

There are no nuclear weapons or nuclear weapons programs, but Iran's economic plans do pose an existential threat to America, and not one that can be simply brushed aside as the unavoidable workings of the free market.

America monopolizes the oil trade. Oil is denominated in dollars and sold on either the NYMEX or London's International Petroleum Exchange (IPE), both owned by Americans. This forces the central banks around the world to maintain huge stockpiles of dollars even though the greenback is currently underwritten by $8 trillion of debt and even though the Bush administration has said that it will perpetuate the deficit- producing tax cuts.

America's currency monopoly is the perfect pyramid-scheme. As long as nations are forced to buy oil in dollars, the United States can continue its profligate spending with impunity. (The dollar now accounts for 68% of global currency reserves up from 51% just a decade ago) The only threat to this strategy is the prospect of competition from an independent oil exchange; forcing the faltering dollar to go nose-to- nose with a more stable (debt-free) currency such as the euro. That would compel central banks to diversify their holdings, sending billions of dollars back to America and ensuring a devastating cycle of hyper- inflation.

The effort to keep information about Iran's oil exchange out of the headlines has been extremely successful. A simple Google search shows that NONE of the major newspapers or networks has referred to the upcoming bourse. The media's aversion to controversial stories which serve the public interest has been evident in many other cases, too, like the fraudulent 2004 presidential elections, the Downing Street Memo, and the flattening of Falluja. Rather than inform, the media serves as a bullhorn for government policy; manipulating public opinion by reiterating the specious demagoguery of the Bush administration. As a result, few people have any idea of the gravity of the present threat facing the American economy.

This is not a "liberal vs. conservative" issue. Those who've analyzed the problem draw the very same conclusions; if the Iran exchange flourishes the dollar will plummet and the American economy will shatter.

This is what author Krassimir Petrov, Ph.D in economics, says in a recent article The Proposed Iranian Oil Bourse (complete article below):

"From a purely economic point of view, should the Iranian Oil Bourse gain momentum, it will be eagerly embraced by major economic powers and will precipitate the demise of the dollar. The collapsing dollar will dramatically accelerate U.S. inflation and will pressure upward U.S. long-term interest rates. At this point, the Fed will find itself between ?between deflation and hyperinflation-it will be forced fast either to take its "classical medicine" by deflating, whereby it raises interest rates, thus inducing a major economic depression, a collapse in real estate, and an implosion in bond, stock, and derivative markets, with a total financial collapse, or alternatively, to take the Weimar way out by inflating, whereby it pegs the long-bond yield, raises the Helicopters and drowns the financial system in liquidity, bailing out numerous LTCMs and hyperinflating the economy.

No doubt, Commander-in-Chief Ben Bernanke, a renowned scholar of the Great Depression?, will choose inflation. ?The Maestro has taught him the panacea of every single financial problem-to inflate, come hell or high water. ?To avoid deflation, he will resort to the printing presses?and, if necessary, he will monetize everything in sight. His ultimate accomplishment will be the hyperinflationary destruction of the American currency ?"

So, raise interest rates and bring on "total financial collapse" or take the "Weimar way out" and cause the "hyperinflationary destruction of the American economy."

These are not good choices, and yet, we're hearing the same pronouncements from right-wing analysts. Alan Peter's article, "Mullah's Threat not Sinking In", which appeared in FrontPage, offers these equally sobering thoughts about the dangers of an Iran oil- exchange:

"A glut of dollar holdings by Central Banks and among Asian lenders, plus the current low interest rate offered to investor/lenders by the USA has been putting the dollar in jeopardy for some time? A twitching finger on currency's hair-trigger can shoot down the dollar without any purposeful ill intent. Most estimates place the likely drop to "floor levels" at a rapid 50% loss in value for a presently 40% overvalued Dollar."

The erosion of the greenback's value was predicted by former Fed-chief Paul Volcker who said that there is a "75% chance of a dollar crash in the next 5 years".

Such a crash would result in soaring interest rates, hyperinflation, skyrocketing energy costs, massive unemployment and, perhaps, depression. This is the troubling scenario if an Iran bourse gets established and knocks the dollar from its lofty perch. And this is what makes the prospect of war, even nuclear war, so very likely.

Peter's continues:

"With economies so interdependent and interwoven, a global, not just American Depression would occur with a domino effect throwing the rest of world economies into poverty. Markets for acutely less expensive US exports would never materialize.

The result, some SME's estimate, might be as many as 200 million Americans out of work and starving on the streets with nobody and nothing able to rescue or aid them, contrary to the 1920/30 Great Depression through soup kitchens and charitable support efforts."

Liberal or conservative, the analysis is the same. If America does not address the catastrophic potential of the Iran bourse, Americans can expect to face dire circumstances.

Now we can understand why the corporate-friendly media has omitted any mention of new oil exchange in their coverage. This is one secret that the boardroom kingpins would rather keep to themselves. It's easier to convince the public of nuclear hobgoblins and Islamic fanatics than to justify fighting a war for the anemic greenback. Never the less, it is the dollar we are defending in Iraq and, presumably, in Iran as well in the very near future. (Saddam converted to the euro in 2000. The bombing began in 2001)

There are peaceful solutions to this dilemma, but not if the Bush administration insists on hiding behind the moronic deception of terrorism or imaginary nuclear weapons programs. Bush needs to come clean with the American people about the real nature of the global energy crisis and stop invoking Bin Laden and WMD to defend American aggression. We need a comprehensive energy strategy, (including government funding for conservation projects, alternative energy- sources, and the development of a new line of "American-made" hybrid vehicles) candid negotiations with Iran to regulate the amount of oil they will sell in euros per year (easing away from the dollar in an orderly way) and a collective "international" approach to energy consumption and distribution (under the auspices of the UN General Assembly)

Greater parity among currencies should be encouraged as a way of strengthening democracies and invigorating markets. It promises to breathe new life into free trade by allowing other political models to flourish without fear of being subsumed into the capitalist prototype. The current dominance of the greenback has created a global empire that is largely dependent on debt, torture, and war to maintain its supremacy.

Iran's oil bourse poses the greatest challenge yet to the dollar- monopoly and its proponents at the Federal Reserve. If the Bush administration goes ahead with a preemptive "nuclear" strike on alleged weapons sites, allies will be further alienated and others will be forced to respond. As Dr. Petrov says, "Major dollar-holding countries may decide to quietly retaliate by dumping their own mountains of dollars, thus preventing the U.S. from further financing its militant ambitions."

There is increasing likelihood that the foremost champions of the present system will be the very one's to bring about its downfall.

Abstract: the proposed Iranian Oil Bourse will accelerate the fall of the American Empire.

The prospect of a mushroom cloud rising from the Dasht-e-Lut, Iran's Desert of Stones, may not be Tehran's greatest threat to international stability. A successful test of an Iranian nuclear weapon at some point in the next few years may prove less destabilizing than a simple free market economic measure that Iran is said to be planning for March of this year. Tehran is preparing to open a bourse, a mercantile exchange and potentially a futures market, where traders can buy and sell oil and gas, along the lines of the International Petroleum Exchange (IPE) in London and the NYTMEX in New York.

NOTE FROM JEAN: This whole item below (Collapse of U.S. Economy Imminent) and the supportive material interspersed through it will be very disturbing to people not familiar yet with the content of this material, much of which I've already covered in compilations going back several years. Since I seldom include such a warning, you may thus better appreciate the value of heeding it if you feel your emotional stamina is not up to the task of dealing with that kind of information. Yet my choosing to include it anyway is indicative of the fact that I feel we'd better be informed of the *possibilities* ahead as planned for by the malevolent beings still in control of the U.S government so as to see more clearly what they stand for ; so as to be energized enough to carry whatever part of the mission for global change we have been entrusted with; and so as to practice some more our staying-cool skills no matter what challenge may present itself to us in the next few months and years ahead before we are all safely in the bright Light shining more intensely by the day at the end of the long tunnel of our emergence from the Kali Yuga - the dark age of human evolution.

On Monday, Jan. 23, Canadians will be voting to elect their next government - quite oblivious of the fact that all of the major parties are controlled by, and endorse, the "global financial/corporate agenda that is the REAL government", and that Canada has already secretly signed an agreement in March 2005 that makes Canadian Sovereignty an illusion. The avowed plan of the North American Union - sometimes referred to as "Deep Integration" with the USA and Mexico, with Canada and Mexico becoming the satellites to be exploited - will force them both to operate under USA law, regulations, security and military strategies. The Canadian Government will thereby have surrendered all the major areas of jurisdiction - being left primarily with the job of "appropriately policing" the Canadian population into compliance in the name of "National Security". (National Security is the code name given the system whereby these criminals protect themselves and their agenda - operating with secrecy - and whereby all dissenters can be arbitrarily classified as "terrorists and a security risk" - with no legal recourse! Sounds ominously like a "police state" by any other name!. )

The following article should give every Canadian serious thought about what will befall Canada and its citizens when it is DEEPLY INTEGRATED with a sinking Titanic! So far, only the Canadian Action Party has tried to alert the Canadian public to this fateful reality - but no one seems to be listening or seems to care. Do most Canadians really know what they are voting for?

Collapse of U.S. Economy Imminent

In its attempt to establish a world empire dominating every nation on the planet, the U.S. has exhausted its ability to finance the expansion and the country now faces imminent financial collapse. From all indications, it looks like 2006 will spell the end for America.

Consider these five important points:

Point #1 The U.S., Great Britain and Israel are preparing to attack Iran. As it appears the main reason for invading Iraq was to stop it from selling oil in Euros, likewise Iran has plans to dump the dollar come March 2006.

First Reference: I did back up this story with the story I posted below entitled: "The Story About Oil You Need to Hear" at:
When you read this story click on all the referenced links provided. This is information that is not being told.

Second Reference: From the link:
We read: "This story was included a post entitled the Top Censored Stories under number 9: Iran's New Oil Trade System Challenges U.S. Currency. I'm posting it because I believe it's important enough to deserve a post of its own. It could well be the real reason the administration is banging their war drums again. And it may also be one reason we went into Iraq, since they were trying to do the same as Iran is now."

Third Thru Sixth References: For further confirmation go to:

Point #2 U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow issued a warning recently that the U.S. Government is on the verge of collapse - as the statutory debt limit imposed by Congress of $8.184 trillion dollars would be reached in mid-February - the government would then be unable to continue its normal operations. Considering the current total U.S. debt stands at $8.162 trillion dollars, once the official debt ceiling ($8.184 trillion) is reached, the U.S. government's credit abroad (its borrowing power) is gone. Those countries (mainly China) who presently keep America afloat by holding U.S. Treasury Notes, will most likely no longer continue doing so.

First reference:

US government warns it's running out of cash (Dec 30)
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Treasury Secretary John Snow has warned that unless Congress raises the national debt limit, the US government will run out of cash to finance its daily work in two months. In a letter to Senate leaders Thursday, Snow said the statutory debt limit imposed by Congress of 8.184 trillion dollars would be reached in mid-February and the government would then lose its borrowing power.

Second Reference: US Government Running Out of Cash:

Third Reference: America to run out of money by March?

Point #3 Bank Of America and Compass Bank managers (probably all other U.S. banks too) have been instructing their employees in the last few weeks on how to respond to customer demands in the event of a collapse of the U.S. economy - specifically telling the employees that only agents from the Department Of Homeland Security will have authority to decide what belongings customers may have from their safe deposit boxes - and that precious metals and other valuables will not be released to U.S. citizens. The bank employees have been strictly prohibited from revealing the banks' new "guidelines" to anyone. (however, employees have been talking to friends and family)

The next time you visit your bank, ask them about it - then ask yourself, why is this information being kept secret from customers and the public - what's really going on?

Homeland Security To Confiscate Bank Safe Deposit Box Contents

January 22, 2006

by notepad

While all the other points I mentioned in a previous post are fairly well documented and discussed elsewhere on the Internet, the bank information I reported is not. This information is from my own experience and research. I discovered the disturbing news quite by accident - and by virtue of its importance, I decided to post my findings here and on a few other forums.

What did I hear?

A family member from Irvine, CA (who's a branch manager at Bank of America) told us two weeks ago that her bank held a "workshop" where the last two days were dedicated to discussing their bank's new security measures. During these last two days, the workshop included members from the Homeland Security Office who instructed them on how to field calls from customers and what they are to tell them in the event of a national disaster. She said they were told how only agents from Homeland Security (during such an event) would be in charge of opening safe deposit boxes and determining what items would be given to bank customers.

At this point they were told that no weapons, cash, gold, or silver will be allowed to leave the bank - only various paperwork will be given to its owners. After discussing the matter with them at length, she and the other employees were then told not to discuss the subject with anyone.

The family member has since given her notice to quit the bank.

I found the news alarming and decided to find out more myself. On a trip to my bank here in Houston, I remarked to a young bank employee (who's new there), "well I guess you've been told all that stuff by the manager and the Homeland Security about what to tell your customers" - and to my amazement, the young woman came right out and said yes she'd been through all that, then whispered to me across the counter, "but we're not supposed to talk about - I could lose my job."

Why haven't you heard more about this?

First of all, since maybe only banks' upper management is privy to the new "rules", the information doesn't trickle down so easily.

Also keep in mind that employees have been told NOT to say anything about this, that it's a matter of National Security (with an allusion toward arrest if they do). They face possibly losing their job too. Another reason is that bank employees may not think it's important, or they believe they're a unique part of the effort towards curtailing "terrorism" and helping America's internal defenses.

It is also important to realize that not everyone's a writer, or Internet savvy - even if the employees moved beyond their banks' warnings & constraints, most people don't know how to get their experience published on the Web in the public domain - it's a mystery they are not familiar with so you never hear their story.

How to get the information yourself:

Visit your bank, ask a few well-worded questions, being careful not to arouse suspicion - if that doesn't work, talk to friends and other family members - maybe they've heard something - or as a last resort, just point blank call the bank manager in private and demand to know what's all this business with the Homeland Security deciding what I can have from my safe deposit box - tell me now or I'll close my account today.

I'll bet if you put forth the effort you'll get the answers you want. What should you do with this information?

I'm not trying to "scare" anyone - just providing some news I think is relevant to Americans. Each must find his way through this dark forest - you will do with this information what best suits you and your loved ones - me personally, I see this as another indicator of how the criminals in charge over our lives intend to fleece U.S. citizens completely then dispose of them as only refuse. Be prepared.

Point #4 FEMA has activated and is currently staffing its vast network of empty internment camps with armed military personnel - unknown to most Americans, these large federal facilities are strategically positioned across the U.S. landscape to "manage" the population in the event of a "terrorist" attack, a civilian uprising, large-scale dissent ,or an insurrection against the government. Some of these razor-wired facilities have the capacity of detaining a million people.

I have a personal friend that travels all over the United States and photographs these empty internment camps that are staffed with a Skelton military crew. He is one of many. The following link verify this point and exactly where these camps are located in every state and the executive orders that will bring this about:

Are you familiar with Rex 84 which has allowed many U.S. military bases to be closed down and to be turned into awaiting prisons.

What do: Detention centers, Depopulation, Demilitarization, Foreign Troops on U.S. soil, Mother Gaia worship, Martial Law, and the Anti-terrorism bill have in common? They are all in our immediate future, unless enough Americans wake up to what is planned for us. Great film footage, a must see for all Americans. Over 2 full hours

Secret US Police Concentration Camps

In a revealing admission in June, 1997, the Director of Resource Management for the U.S. Army confirmed the validity of a memorandum relating to the establishment of a civilian inmate labor program under development by the Department of the Army. The document states, "Enclosed for your review and comment is the draft Army regulation on civilian inmate labor utilization" and the procedure to "establish civilian prison camps on installations."

Amid widespread rumors, Congressman Henry Gonzales clarified the question of the existence of civilian detention camps. In an interview, Gonzalez stated, "The truth is yes--you do have these stand by provisions, and the plans are here . . . whereby you could, in the name of stopping terrorism . . . evoke the military and arrest Americans and put them in detention camps."

Pierre Tristam's 11/26/02 editorial in the Daytona Beach News Journal blew the lid off the Homeland Security Department.

"The New Deal was a 'reorganization' or an 'expansion' of government. The creation of the Homeland Security Department is a coup within the government. What Ollie North once did illegally in a White House basement - free-lancing policy with public money and accountability to no one - a $37 billion department with 170,000 employees will now do legally in what is sure to be a high-rise of basements and metaphorical windows on Washington's Bureaucracy Row. Like a Wall Street firm beholden only to its board room, the second-largest government department is now a proprietary arm of the presidency. It operates beyond congressional scrutiny and public accountability, and guarantees secrecy to its own machinations or to those of any private business with which it deals.

"Let's say Kafka Inc. were a company that made surveillance cameras the government was installing at a few thousand intersections. Kafka's products happen to be pathetically faulty, as such devices commonly are. The public would be outraged if it knew. But all Kafka would have to do to keep its products' evaluations from becoming public is submit them to the Department of Homeland Security, where everything is to be kept secret by law. What Kafka does, every other company or hospital or airline or even local sheriff's department can do with any proposal, any budget item, any safety plan made part of the homeland security racket. The department, in other words, is a black hole to the Freedom of Information Act - everything goes in, nothing gets out."

On Sunday, November 10th, the New York Times announced that 200,000 to 250,000 troops would be used to attack Iraq, while 265,000 National Guard and Reserve personnel would be called to active duty--MOST OF WHICH WILL BE DEPLOYED IN THE UNITED STATES! Is Bush at war with Iraq or with American citizens?

Camps for Citizens: Ashcroft's Hellish Vision

August 14, 2002

Attorney general shows himself as a menace to liberty.

By Jonathan Turley

Jonathan Turley is a professor of constitutional law at George Washington University.

Los Angeles Times

Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft's announced desire for camps for U.S. citizens he deems to be "enemy combatants" has moved him from merely being a political embarrassment to being a constitutional menace.

Ashcroft's plan, disclosed last week but little publicized, would allow him to order the indefinite incarceration of U.S. citizens and summarily strip them of their constitutional rights and access to the courts by declaring them enemy combatants.

The proposed camp plan should trigger immediate congressional hearings and reconsideration of Ashcroft's fitness for this important office. Whereas Al Qaeda is a threat to the lives of our citizens, Ashcroft has become a clear and present threat to our liberties.

The camp plan was forged at an optimistic time for Ashcroft's small inner circle, which has been carefully watching two test cases to see whether this vision could become a reality. The cases of Jose Padilla and Yaser Esam Hamdi will determine whether U.S. citizens can be held without charges and subject to the arbitrary and unchecked authority of the government.

Hamdi has been held without charge even though the facts of his case are virtually identical to those in the case of John Walker Lindh. Both Hamdi and Lindh were captured in Afghanistan as foot soldiers in Taliban units. Yet Lindh was given a lawyer and a trial, while Hamdi rots in a floating Navy brig in Norfolk, Va.

This week, the government refused to comply with a federal judge who ordered that he be given the underlying evidence justifying Hamdi's treatment. The Justice Department has insisted that the judge must simply accept its declaration and cannot interfere with the president's absolute authority in "a time of war."

In Padilla's case, Ashcroft initially claimed that the arrest stopped a plan to detonate a radioactive bomb in New York or Washington, D.C. The administration later issued an embarrassing correction that there was no evidence Padilla was on such a mission. What is clear is that Padilla is an American citizen and was arrested in the United States--two facts that should trigger the full application of constitutional rights. Ashcroft hopes to use his self-made "enemy combatant" stamp for any citizen whom he deems to be part of a wider terrorist conspiracy.

Perhaps because of his discredited claims of preventing radiological terrorism, aides have indicated that a "high-level committee" will recommend which citizens are to be stripped of their constitutional rights and sent to Ashcroft's new camps.

Few would have imagined any attorney general seeking to reestablish such camps for citizens. Of course, Ashcroft is not considering camps on the order of the internment camps used to incarcerate Japanese American citizens in World War II. But he can be credited only with thinking smaller; we have learned from painful experience that unchecked authority, once tasted, easily becomes insatiable.

We are only now getting a full vision of Ashcroft's America. Some of his predecessors dreamed of creating a great society or a nation unfettered by racism. Ashcroft seems to dream of a country secured from itself, neatly contained and controlled by his judgment of loyalty. For more than 200 years, security and liberty have been viewed as coexistent values. Ashcroft and his aides appear to view this relationship as lineal, where security must precede liberty.

Since the nation will never be entirely safe from terrorism, liberty has become a mere rhetorical justification for increased security. Ashcroft is a catalyst for constitutional devolution, encouraging citizens to accept autocratic rule as their only way of avoiding massive terrorist attacks.

His greatest problem has been preserving a level of panic and fear that would induce a free people to surrender the rights so dearly won by their ancestors. In "A Man for All Seasons," Sir Thomas More was confronted by a young lawyer, Will Roper, who sought his daughter's hand. Roper proclaimed that he would cut down every law in England to get after the devil.

More's response seems almost tailored for Ashcroft: "And when the last law was down and the devil turned round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? ... This country's planted thick with laws from coast to coast ... and if you cut them down--and you are just the man to do it--do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then?" Every generation has had Ropers and Ashcrofts who view our laws and traditions as mere obstructions rather than protections in times of peril. But before we allow Ashcroft to denude our own constitutional landscape, we must take a stand and have the courage to say, "Enough."

Every generation has its test of principle in which people of good faith can no longer remain silent in the face of authoritarian ambition. If we cannot join together to fight the abomination of American camps, we have already lost what we are defending.

Concentration Camps In America

Point #5 The Patriot Act and the US Senate's vote to ban habeas corpus (Nov 14th) - along with George W. Bush having signed executive orders giving him sole authority to impose martial law, suspend habeas corpus and ignore the Posse Comitatus Act, have together pretty much destroyed any notions of freedom and justice for Americans.

Bush could seize absolute control of U.S. government

Capitol Hill Blue/DOUG THOMPSON

January 14 2006

President George W. Bush has signed executive orders giving him sole authority to impose martial law, suspend habeas corpus and ignore the Posse Comitatus Act that prohibits deployment of U.S. troops on American streets. This would give him absolute dictatorial power over the government with no checks and balances.

Bush discussed imposing martial law on American streets in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks by activating "national security initiatives" put in place by Ronald Reagan during the 1980s.

These "national security initiatives," hatched in 1982 by controversial Marine Colonel Oliver North, later one of the key players in the Iran-Contra Scandal, charged the Federal Emergency Management Agency with administering executive orders that allowed suspension of the Constitution, implementation of martial law, establishment of internment camps, and the turning the government over to the President.

John Brinkerhoff, deputy director of FEMA, developed the martial law implementation plan, following a template originally developed by former FEMA director Louis Guiffrida to battle a "national uprising of black militants." Gifuffrida's implementation of martial law called for jailing at least 21 million African Americans in "relocation camps." Brinkerhoff later admitted in an interview with the Miami Herald that President Reagan signed off on the initiatives and they remained in place, dormant, until George W. Bush took office.

Brinkerhoff moved on the Anser Institute for Homeland Security and, following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, provided the Bush White House and the Pentagon with talking points supporting revised "national security initiatives" that would could allow imposition of martial law and suspension of the Posse Comitatus Act of 1978, the law that is supposed to forbid use of troops for domestic law enforcement.

Brinkerhoff wrote that intentions of Posse Comitatus are "misunderstood and misapplied" and that the U.S. has in times of national emergency the "full and absolute authority" to send troops into American streets to "enforce order and maintain the peace."

Bush used parts of the plan to send troops into the streets of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. In addition, FEMA hired former special forces personnel from the mercenary firm Blackwater USA to "enforce security."

Blackwater USA, in its promotional materials, describes itself as "the most comprehensive professional military, law enforcement, security, peacekeeping, and stability operations company in the world," adding that "we have established a global presence and provide training and operational solutions for the 21st century in support of security and peace, and freedom and democracy everywhere."

Blackwater is also a major U.S. contractor in Iraq and has a contract with the Bush White House to provide additional security work "on an as-needed basis."

The Department of Homeland Security established the "Northern Command for National Defense," a wide-ranging program that includes FEMA, the Pentagon, the FBI and the National Security Agency. Executive orders already signed by Bush allow the Northern Command to send troops into American streets, seize control of radio and television stations and networks and impose martial law "in times of national emergency."

The authority to declare what is or is not a national emergency rests entirely with Bush who does not have to either consult or seek the approval of Congress for permission to assume absolute control over the government of the United States.
The White House press office would neither confirm nor deny existence of Bush's executive orders or the existence of the Northern Command for National Defense. Neither would the Department of Homeland Security.

But my sources within the White House and DHS tell me the plans are in place, ready for implementation when the command comes from the man who keeps telling the American public that he is a "war time president" who will "do anything in my power" to impose his will on the people of the United States.

And he has made sure that power will be absolute when he chooses to use it.

Vote to strip rights of Guantanamo prisoners may be reconsidered
By Frank Davies - Knight Ridder Newspapers
WASHINGTON ÷ For almost 800 years, the "great writ" of habeas corpus has been a bedrock principle of English and U.S. law, from the Magna Carta to today's jails and courts. It's the means for a prisoner to contest his or her imprisonment. That's one reason legal experts were stunned when the Senate, after an hour of debate, voted Thursday to overturn the Supreme Court's extension of habeas-corpus protection to 500-plus detainees at the Guantanamo Bay base in Cuba.

NOTE: This is the end of the article from

Summary: The U.S. economy is broken, the United States is bankrupt - the unchecked spending by this administration, the illegally waged wars against Afghanistan and Iraq, the cost of unprecedented weapons and military build-up - have all contributed to an irreversible emergency which is threatening our nation's existence and our very lives.

Hospitals are closing, major corporations are declaring bankruptcy and/or moving their companies overseas, the monopolized news media spews nothing but lies, and our fearless leaders have turned out to be only ruthless criminals hell-bent on destabilizing our country and robbing us all.

Be aware - we stand at the threshold of total ruin - the international bankers and war profiteers care little for our lives and families - these demons worship money and all things vile and evil - they have very much to gain from war, misery, disease, famine, chaos and death (our deaths).

We are right on the edge - the Treasury is already overextended - the U.S. government cannot (and will not) care for its own citizens' needs, nor secure our borders against illegal aliens - plus, the whole "terrorist" thing is a cruel hoax perpetrated against a trusting citizenry - and only designed to instill fear and garner support for the genocide taking place in Iraq.

Should America (along with British & Israeli forces) launch a war against Iran, or another country, without yet paying for, or even recovering from the current losses in Iraq and elsewhere - the costs of such of an invasion will overwhelm an already crippled economy and push the U.S. over the edge into oblivion.

Question: Considering the U.S. Treasury Notes that China currently holds (which keeps the U.S. economy going)...

Do you think China will continue to support a country's economy (the U.S.) whose military launches a nuclear strike against its neighbor (Iran) - thus delivering a blanket of radioactive fallout over western Chinese provinces - killing hundreds of thousands, if not millions of its citizens?

I think not.

Factoring in the aforementioned points of "preparation" engineered by U.S. authorities, I'd say there's a stinking rat in the woodpile ...can you smell it too?

The Story About Oil You Need to Hear

December 30, 2005

Some news stories are screamed in 100 headlines in 100 different newspapers and media outlets. This one however is so quiet it's almost a whisper, yet it may be one of the biggest stories next year.

It all begins here, with a blurb so tiny that I'll reprint the entire thing. From the Federal Reserve's website, November 10, 2005:

On March 23, 2006, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System will cease publication of the M3 monetary aggregate. The Board will also cease publishing the following components: large-denomination time deposits, repurchase agreements (RPs), and Eurodollars. The Board will continue to publish institutional money market mutual funds as a memorandum item in this release.

Full Story:

In November 2000, Iraq stopped accepting U.S. dollars for its oil. Counted as a purely political move, Saddam Hussein switched the currency required to purchase Iraqi oil to the euro. Selling oil through the U.N. Oil for Food Program, Iraq converted all of its U.S. dollars in its U.N. account to the euro. Shortly thereafter, Iraq converted $10 billion in its U.N. reserve fund to the euro. By the end of 2000, Iraq had abandoned the U.S. dollar completely. (and thus the invasion of Iraq)

In March 2006, Iran will take Iraq's switch to the petroeuro to new heights by launching a third oil exchange. The Iranians have developed a petroeuro system for oil trade which, when enacted, will once again threaten U.S. dollar supremacy far greater than Iraq's euro conversion. Called the Iran Oil Bourse, an exchange that only accepts the euro for oil sales would mean that the entire world could begin purchasing oil from any oil-producing nation with euros instead of dollars.

The Iranian plan isn't limited to purchasing one oil-producing country's oil with euros. Its plan will create a global alternative to the U.S. dollar. Come March 2006, the Iran Oil Bourse will further the momentum of OPEC to create an alternate currency for oil purchases worldwide. China, Russia, and the European Union are evaluating the Iranian plan to exchange oil for euros and giving the plan serious consideration.

Is it mere coincidence that the Fed will begin hiding M-3 the same month that Iran will launch its Iran Oil Bourse, or is there a direct threat to the stability of the U.S. dollar, the U.S. economy, and the U.S. standard of living? Are Americans being set up for a collapse in our economy that will make the Great Depression of the 1930's look like a bounced check?

If you cannot or will not make the value and stability of the U.S. currency of personal importance, if you are unwilling to demand from your elected officials, an immediate abolishment of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and the fiat money scheme that the banking cartel has used for nearly a century now to keep our government and our people in a state of perpetual debt, then you are faced with but two alternatives, abject poverty, or invading Iran.

The plans to invade Iran are unspoken, but unfolding before our very eyes.

Billions for the Bankers - Debts for the People
The Real Story of the Money-Control Over America
Americans, living in what is called the richest nation on earth, seem always to be short of money. Wives are working in unprecedented numbers, husbands hope for overtime hours to earn more, or take part-time jobs evenings and weekends, children look for odd jobs for spending money, the family debt climbs higher, and psychologists say one of the biggest causes of family quarrels and breakups is "arguments over money." Much of this trouble can be traced to our present "debt-money" system. CLIP continued at ...
Recommended by Phyllis Montague> who wrote: "Friends, this is a must read. Yes, it is long but take your time, save it for reference and get it out to everyone you know. There is power in knowledge and it is important to understand how our debt based monetary system works. Economic imperialism through central banking essentially controls the world today."

In 1901 the national debt of the United States was less than $1 billion. It stayed at less than $1 billion until we got into World War I. Then it jumped to $25 billion. The national debt nearly doubled between World War I and World War II, increasing from $25 to $49 billion. Between 1942 and 1952, the debt zoomed from $72 billion to $265 billion. In 1962 it was $303 billion. By 1970, the debt had increased to $383 billion. Between 1971 and 1976 it rose from $409 billion to $631 billion. The debt experienced its greatest growth, however, during the 1980s, fueled by an unprecedented peacetime military buildup. In 1998, the outstanding public debt will roar past $5.5 trillion. The unconstitutional "share" of this debt for every man, woman and child is currently $20,594.86 and will continue to increase an average of $630 million every day, which doesn't include the $26 trillion in individual credit card debts, mortgages, automobile leases and so on. Click here to see the current national debt. (NOTE: THIS IS A DIZZYING EXPERIENCE!) Today, as we stand before the dawn of a New World Order run by internationalist financiers, most of the revenue collected by the Federal government in the form of individual income taxes will go straight to paying the interest on the debt alone. At the rate the debt is increasing, eventually we'll reach a point where, even if the government takes every penny of its citizens' income via taxation, it will still not collect enough to keep up with the interest payments. The government will own nothing, the people will own nothing, and the banks will own everything. The New World Order will foreclose on America. If the present trend continues, and there is no evidence whatsoever that it will not continue, we can expect the national debt to nearly double again within the next six to eight years. By then, the interest on the debt alone should be in the $400 billion a year range.

For five years your anger has mounted. You've been lied to. You've been spied on. You've watched as the death count rose in Iraq, as torture became policy, and as thousands of Black people were abandoned on rooftops. Now you're expected to accept a "unitary executive" and an end to abortion.

What to do as Bush tries to use his State of the Union address to shut us all up and legitimize his theocratic new Rome?

The Democrats (and some others) are telling people to stay home, watch TV, swear at the screen (or maybe play games) and give money to them.

World Can't Wait is calling for people to be in the streets, bring the noise, politically drown out Bush's lies, and drive out Bush's Regime.

International Jurists From 14 Countries Trying To Nail Bush And His Killer Cronies For Illegal Murder & Torture

By Greg Szymanski

The Bush killing machine is no secret overseas, as a coalition of legal experts based in Canada want to put Bush and his band of renegades behind bars. Too bad American jurists don't have the guts to do the same!

If a group of prominent international jurists get their way, a little known Canadian lawsuit could finally spell the end to President Bush and his killer cronies.

It is no secret the Bush administration has libeled and defamed the American people's good name, flaunting international law while torturing and slaughtering millions of innocents worldwide.

In fact, the Bush administration's "arrogance and bully-like swagger" when it comes to ignoring long-recognized, established principles of international law has become an utter embarrassment, changing America's longstanding motto of the Land of the Free to a country wrapped tightly in chains called the "Home of the Neocons."

Adding even more embarrassment is the sad fact that any serious legal battle to stop Bush in his tracks from ripping apart the country has not come from American jurists and lawyers, but from legal minds living abroad.

And in response to Bush's illegal torture and killing, ask the insane question why Americans have to look abroad for any legal help?

But that is exactly what is happening when looking at an obscure Canadian lawsuit where a group of international jurists are trying to come to the rescue of American citizens by mounting an attack on Bush and his band of killers, the foreign group of lawyers trying to stop Bush in his tracks while others in America have failed to even try for fear of retaliation.

The group of highly-respected jurists, called Lawyers Against the War (LAW), is a committee of international legal minds from 14 different countries, a group who banned together in 2001 to oppose the illegalities of the Bush administration's so-called "War on Terror."

And this week in Vancouver, Canada, the Canadian-based legal group filed appeal papers, challenging what they call "the corrupt ruling" and recent dismissal of torture charges filed against Bush in a previous lower court case dismissed in Canada.

The appeal, filed this week,  is set to be heard later in the year in a British Columbia Court of Appeals.

Although the American mainstream media gives little attention to foreign cases and legal groups critical of Bush, LAW's spokesman said this week the American people need to be apprised of the "overwhelming wordwide consensus" among legal scholars and practicing jurists that Bush and the American leadership should be jailed for international criminal law violations, including murder and torture.

LAW co-chairperson Gail Davidson said the recent lower court ruling, dismissing Bush of any wrongdoing since he is a head of state, was improperly interpreted by the lower court while the immunity issue concerning Bush needs to be revisited.

"This is an important stage of the case, which most Americans have no idea about," said Davidson after filing court documents last week. "LAW is seeking to have Canadian laws properly interpreted and applied and the two lower courts have not allowed a proper hearing of the immunity issue."

Davidson added that "the Notice of Appeal lists numerous legal and factual errors committed by two lower courts that have so far heard only preliminary arguments in the case."

The errors she cites includes the December 6, 2004, ruling by Judge William Kitchen that Bush is immune from prosecution because he is a sitting head of state, as well as the December 19, 2005, ruling by the Supreme Court of B.C. that the prosecution was "an abuse of process," the real intention of which was "to use the criminal procedure as a forum to express political views."

However, in response to the lower court's interpretation on the grounds of abuse of process, LAW co-chair Michael Mandel categorically denied the case has been filed for "strictly political reasons."

"Canada is obligated under Canadian and international law to act effectively to prevent and punish torture, including the torture occurring at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay, and LAW has taken legal steps to enforce Canadian law," said Mandel.

The White House has refused to comment on the Canadian case and the filing of the recent appeal, stating only numerous times that Bush has always been acting in the best interest of America and its fight against the "War on Terror."

Subject: Unfathomed Dangers In U.S.A. Patriot Act Renewal. Canadians Must Stand On Guard at Home Against Our Anti-Terrorism Act Renewal

Anti Terrorism law in the USA has become more Totalitarian. Canada is reviewing our anti-terrorism legislation. Right wing power under the Conservative minority government puts Canadians at risk of similar totalitarianism.

The USA PAtriot Act had been renewed with a terrifying new term. A new permanent federal police force has been created to be known as the 'United States Secret Service Uniformed Division.'" It has Gestapo like powers. Sec. 605 of USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 empowers these police to "make arrests without warrant for any offense against the United States committed in their presence, or for any felony cognizable under the laws of the United States if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed or is committing such felony."

The new police are assigned a variety of jurisdictions, including "an event designated under section 3056(e) of title 18 as a special event of national significance" (SENS).

"A special event of national significance" is neither defined nor does it require the presence of a "protected person" such as the president in order to trigger it. Thus, the administration, and perhaps the police themselves, can place the SENS designation on any event. Once a SENS designation is placed on an event, the new federal police are empowered to keep out and arrest people at their discretion.

This is very bad stuff. It impacts Canadians because under agreements entered under the Liberal regime post 9/11 including the Smart Border Plan and the Security and Prosperity Partnership Agreement Canada has agreed to restructure our police and legal systems to copy that of the USA.

We have just been through an election in Canada in which the four mainstream parties being the only ones with M.P.s in Parliament said nothing, nothing, nothing about any of this fundamental regime change process; nothing, nothing, nothing about the anti terrorism legislation under review in Canada. The Canadian Action Party has been unable to obtain copies of the proposed changes to the Canadian law which were under review before the writ was dropped and now will be back on resumption of Parliament in a few weeks.

No Canadian NGO's have been profiling this legislation. Indeed, the strongest NGO, the Council of Canadians, gave this issue no profile in their Election Report . Worse yet, they gave no profile to and continued their discrimination against the seven alternative parties some of whom, eg CAP (Canadian Action Party), take a strong active support position on all the issues the COC does highlight, and more .

Voters were failed on all fronts.

Prime Minister -elect Harper is lauded by the USA who see him as more Bush friendly even than was Martin, and Martin already sold Canada out with his signature on the Security and Prosperity Partnership Agreement signed by Martin Bush and Fox in March of 2004. Harper has said he would reconsider a U.S. missile defense scheme rejected by the Liberal government of Prime Minister Paul Martin. He also said he wanted to move beyond the Kyoto debate by establishing different environmental controls, spend more on the Canadian military, expand its peacekeeping missions and tighten security along the U.S. border to prevent terrorists and guns from crossing.

All this means is that Harper will be more open than Martin in his acts of anti-Canadianism and regime change. His language of double speak copies Bush. He even ends his speeches with "God Bless Canada"

If I am right that no concerned thinking Canadian will support the Gestapo legislation now intact in the USA, all of us, but especially those Canadians who voted for the Conservatives, the Liberals, the NDP, the Bloq Quebecois have no time to lose. We must all immediately contact our new MPs and demand cancellation of the anti-terrorist legislation in Canada. Even the NDP need strong prodding . Some of their candidates were talking more law and order, more punishment. Like the NAFTA, the anti-terrorist legislation is so fundamentally flawed , is so liberty stripping that it must be revoked , not re-jigged. Similarly the Smart Border declaration and the Security and Prosperity Partnership Agreement must be revoked. All the administrative changes in process by the bureaucracy arising out of those agreements must be halted. We are either sovereign or we are not. MPs need to prove they have not been neutered.

Please read the following article respecting the U.S.A law. It is definitely not safe to travel to the USA any more, or even to fly over their airspace. Arbitrary power is unleashed there. Americans are prisoners now in their own land. Canadians await the same fate unless we compel this minority government to stop it here.

Unfathomed Dangers In Patriot Act Renewal

By Paul Craig Roberts

A provision in the "PATRIOT Act" creates a new federal police force with the power to violate the Bill of Rights. You might think that this cannot be true, as you have not read about it in newspapers or heard it discussed by talking heads on TV.

Go to House Report 109-333 USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 and check it out for yourself. Sec. 605 reads:

"There is hereby created and established a permanent police force, to be known as the 'United States Secret Service Uniformed Division.'"

This new federal police force is "subject to the supervision of the Secretary of Homeland Security."

The new police are empowered to "make arrests without warrant for any offense against the United States committed in their presence, or for any felony cognizable under the laws of the United States if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed or is committing such felony."

The language conveys enormous discretionary and arbitrary powers. What is "an offense against the United States"? What are "reasonable grounds"?

You can bet the Alito/Roberts court will rule that it is whatever the executive branch says.

The obvious purpose of the act is to prevent demonstrations at Bush/Cheney events. However, nothing in the language limits the police powers from being used only in this way. Like every law in the U.S., this law also will be expansively interpreted and abused. It has dire implications for freedom of association and First Amendment rights. We can take for granted that the new federal police will be used to suppress dissent and to break up opposition. The Brownshirts are now arming themselves with a Gestapo.

Many naïve Americans will write to me to explain that this new provision in the reauthorization of the "PATRIOT Act" is necessary to protect the president and other high officials from terrorists or from harm at the hands of angry demonstrators: "No one else will have anything to fear." Some will accuse me of being an alarmist, and others will say that it is unpatriotic to doubt the law's good intentions.

Americans will write such nonsense despite the fact that the president and foreign dignitaries are already provided superb protection by the Secret Service. The naïve will not comprehend that the president cannot be endangered by demonstrators at SENS at which the president is not present. For many Americans, the light refuses to turn on.

In Nazi Germany, did no one but Jews have anything to fear from the Gestapo?

By Stalin's time, Lenin and Trotsky had eliminated all members of the "oppressor class," but that did not stop Stalin from sending millions of "enemies of the people" to the Gulag.

It is extremely difficult to hold even local police forces accountable. Who is going to hold accountable a federal police protected by Homeland Security and the president?

Argentina Breaks Plutocrat, Banker Stranglehold

Massive Debt Paid Off Two Years Early; Lenders Dismayed In 2001, the economy of Argentina was declared dead but it has suddenly come alive and paid off a massive $9.5 billion debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) almost two years ahead of schedule. The payment, which was announced on Jan. 3, represented a third of the country’s federal reserves and was aimed at once and for all breaking the financial stranglehold the IMF and its lending partners— the Paris Club, international banks and private lenders—have had for decades on that nation.

The move shocked many of those in the financial world who, four years ago, pronounced Argentina a “financial corpse.” At that time, there was political unrest, massive unemployment, a failing currency and ordinary Argen-tineans lining up outside banks to remove their assets before they evaporated in a complete currency meltdown.

At the time of the crisis in Argentina, the IMF, as it had done in neighboring countries, stepped in with offers of loans and demands for harsh measures such as cutting basic salaries from $200 a month to $160 and reducing govern-ment payments to the elderly. In return, Argentina was promised a big aid package from private lenders, the World Bank and the IMF.

However, Argentina learned, just like Brazil and other nations in the region before it, that being tied to the IMF meant being forced to follow its promotion of globalization, free trade and privatization. Those were policies which often turned out to be of no benefit to ordinary people or to the economies of the countries subjected to them.

In the 1990s for example, when Argentina had faced a similar financial crisis, the government, on the advice of the IMF, sold off the nation’s debts to foreign lenders and speculators, as well as to Fleet Bank of Boston and Citibank of New York.

That resulted in money, which would otherwise have been used for health, education and policing, being siphoned off to pay high interest rates on the dollar debts.

But, paying back loans was not the only problem Argentina faced once it was indebted to the IMF, World Bank and others. It discovered that it had little room to formulate its own national economic policies and was often a victim of the whims of those nations, organizations and institutions, which provided the loans.

It was therefore obliged to accept financial, political and social accords instituted by global bankers who had no great incentive in seeing the country emerge from bankruptcy. The reality was that the more indebted the country remained, the more interest was paid to lenders and speculators.

On Jan. 3, in announcing what some regard as an historic decision to pay off the IMF debt ahead of time, Argentina’s government revealed that it had it also succeeded in forcing private creditors to live with a 70 percent cut in a defaulted debt of $100 million.

The country’s president, Nestor Kirchner, declared that paying off the IMF would rid his nation of what had become an IMF vehicle for “meddling.” Kirchner explained that the IMF had constantly forced Argentina to accept “periodic reviews” of its financial obligations and presented it with conflicting demands, which worked against sustainable development of the economy.

By paying off the IMF and its partner lenders, Kirchner anticipated his nation would save as much as $1.1 billion a year in interest over the next three years.

Argentina’s financial moves came quickly on the heels of a decision by Brazil to get out from under the control of the Paris Club—the 19 creditor nations to which it owed $2.6 billion.

By repaying that debt the Brazilian government announced it would save $100 million. But the most sur-prising move by the Brazilians was made several weeks ago when they decided to pay-off, two years earlier than required, their entire $15.5 billion debt to the IMF. In doing so, they pointed to a reinvigorated Brazilian economy and an upturn in the economic fortunes of many of their Latin American neighbors.

For those in Washington who have closely observed the latest financial developments in the southern hemisphere there may be good reason to believe that there has been considerable consultation and coordination between Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil and other countries like Paraguay and Uruguay. It may soon become apparent that those countries, and others in the region, have for some time been secretly developing a concerted strategy to escape the control of the IMF, the World Bank, the Paris Club and other globalist groups that have benefited significantly for decades from the economic plight of Latin American nations. In so doing they may be on the road to creating a new trade bloc to rival the United States.

In the course of making his announcement about the repayment of the IMF debt it was noticeable that the Argentinean president thanked not only the president of Brazil for supporting Argentina’s decision, but also the president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez.

Chavez has publicly opposed the IMF’s role in Latin America and argued for less U.S. influence in the region.

Subject: Alert: Two dangerous Navy proposals

Alert: Two dangerous Navy proposals threaten the marine environment and require your activism today!

Dear Seaflowers,

The U.S. Navy has been a major contributor to ocean noise pollution with its use of high-intensity active sonar as a component of its Anti-Submarine Warfare program. Despite irrefutable scientific evidence that noise can be deadly for marine life, the Navy now has two proposals that necessarily will increase ocean noise pollution. The first is a request to establish a 500-square-mile sonar testing range in the Atlantic off the coast of North Carolina. The project has been named the Undersea Warfare Testing Range (USWTR). The second is a proposal to double the number of ships equipped with low-frequency active (LFA) sonar. As you know, Seaflow has long opposed the use of LFA sonar because of the risk to marine life.

Seaflow advocates for a precautionary or common sense approach to the use of high-intensity active sonar. Since military active sonar is increasingly being shown to disrupt the web of life in the ocean and often has dire consequences for marine mammals, fish and other sea animals, we must work to reduce the Navy's dependence on this dangerous technology.

Under the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) the Navy is required to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) any time it proposes projects that might impact the environment. The Navy has published a draft EIS (DEIS) for the proposed Undersea Warfare Testing Range (USWTR) and a draft supplemental EIS (DSEIS) for LFA sonar. NEPA also requires a public comment period for any EIS.

Seaflow and several of our ocean noise coalition partners, have been preparing statements that address specific concerns regarding the DEIS and the DSEIS. Now, we are asking you to participate by sending your comments in before the fast-approaching close of the public comment period.

We know that the EIS documents are long and dense, and we suggest that it is not necessary for you to comment as thoroughly as an organization might unless you wish to do so. However, we believe it is important for the Navy to recognize the number of people who are concerned that increased human-generated ocean noise will have a negative impact on the ocean environment.

Please take a few minutes to write two postcards or short letters to express your concerns about increasing ocean noise pollution. You should request that your comments be included as part of the "Record of the Decision." I will outline the details for each below:

For the DEIS for the Undersea Warfare Training Range, please write or fax Keith Jenkins and let him know your concerns about the USWTR. The testing range will be used to train with high-intensity sonar systems and will repeatedly expose marine life to increased levels of noise pollution. Remember to include the federal register number (70 Federal Register 62101- 62103) and request that your comments be included for the "Record of the Decision." The deadline for public comment is January 30, 2006.

Mr. Keith Jenkins Naval Facilities Engineering Command Atlantic (Code EV21KJ) 6506 Hampton Boulevard Norfolk, VA 23508 Fax: 757-322-4894

Here is the link for the Navy's USWTR website: Seaflow's Science Advisor, Michael Stocker, has written comments about the DEIS, which can be found here:

For the DSEIS for the deployment of the U.S. Navy's Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System Low Frequency Active (SURTASS LFA) sonar, please write or email Joe Johnson, SURTASS LFA Program Manager. Let him know your concern that increasing the number of ships equipped with LFA sonar will only increase ocean noise pollution, putting marine life at further risk. Remember to include the federal register number (70 FR 68443) and request that your comments be included as part of the "Record of the Decision." The deadline for public comment is February 10, 2006

Mr. Joe Johnson 4100 Fairfax Drive Suite 730 Arlington, VA 22203

Here is the link for the Navy's LFA Sonar website:

If you would like more information about both of these Navy proposals, please visit Seaflow's newsroom page,, and the International Ocean Noise Coalition (IONC) website, Seaflow is a member of IONC.

Thank you for taking a moment to participate in this process and speak up for the whales, dolphins and all marine life that need our help to protect their environment.

Probe Covered Up Possible Sonar Role in Whale Stranding, Documents Show (Jan 20, 2006),2403,BSUN_19093_4401993,00.html
The Washington Post - Documents released under a court order show that a government investigator studying the stranding of 37 whales on the Carolina coast last year changed her draft report to eliminate all references to the possibility that naval sonar may have played a role in driving the whales ashore. The issue of sonar's effects on whales is a sensitive topic for the Navy, which has clashed with environmentalists in several court suits seeking to limit the use of the technology because of its possible effects on marine mammals and other sea creatures. The January 2005 stranding occurred shortly after naval maneuvers in the area off North Carolina,in the region where the Pentagon wants to build a controversial underwater sonar training range. Subject: Future depends both on Hamas and Israeli government

Gush Shalom press release, Jan. 26, 2006

-We must talk with Hamas; they also can be partners
-The crucial choice: deterioration and ever more bloodshed or the opening towards a firm peace of which Hamas is part.
-The choice depends both on Hamas and on Israeli government

The government of Israel had dozens and even hundreds of opportunities to negotiate with Fatah and Abu Mazen, and it persistently avoided all of them. But, it is no use crying over spilled milk.

The Palestinian people managed to hold fair, democratic elections under international supervision, in spite of the hard conditions of living under a regime of occupation and oppression, and the Israeli military raids which continued until the election day itself.

The parliament elected in these elections, and the cabinet which will get the confidence of the parliament will be the representatives of the Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem - authorized to represent them in any negotiations - just like the Knesset and the government of Israel represent the Israeli people.

The Hamas victory carries both great risk and enormous chance - for both peoples. On the one hand, there is now a read danger of cutting off all contact and relation between the two sides, leading to chaos and increased bloodshed. On the other hand, there is also a historical chance to achieve peace, a more firm peace of which the Hamas - with its leaders, supporters and voters - will be full partners. The choice which of these possibilities will materialize depends on the decisions taken by the Hamas leadership in the coming days and weeks - but at least as much by the decision taken by the government of Israel.

The State of Israel has conducted negotiations with the PLO long before its Covenant was officially abolished, not did it wait for its abolition before signing an agreement with the PLO and starting implementation on the ground. The very holding of negotiations has rendered the Covenant meaningless. The same is true for the Hamas Covenant: the holding of talks between a Hamas-led government and the State of Israel will constitute mutual recognition - by the Hamas movement of the existence of Israel and by Israel of the Palestinian government also when formed by the Hamas.

Subject: Free Travel Accommodation with like-minded people...

Hi everyone,

I'm very excited to be able to share with you something I have re-discovered. I say 're-discovered' because I learned about this global service years ago and was reminded of it by my dear friend, Delaine Jones in NZ, after she discovered it when visiting Queensland recently.

Servas International is a wonderful global service where Servas 'hosts' offer free accommodation (and often a meal or two) in exchange for spending some time together sharing thoughts and ideas about creating world peace and harmony, etc. Many hosts even offer to pick you up from the airport, bus or train station.

I have just joined and the organisers I've met have been so helpful and genuine. It cost me A$80 (about $65USD) for a year. Part of the deal is that you are loaned a Host List (book) of the area in which you intend to travel. I am travelling to Melbourne on Friday for 2 weeks and then on to Tasmania for 10 days. The Host List gives the hosts' names, age, addresses, location, phone numbers, email address, how many people they can accommodate (I'm going with a friend who has also joined), their interests, what organisations they may be affiliated with (e.g. Greenpeace), whether they can pick you up, etc. In other words all the information you might want to know before you decide to travel to a particular place.

If any organisation was made for World Harmony, this is it. I suggest anyone wishing to travel get in touch with your local Servas organiser and join.

The following is copied from Servas International website. If you are interested study their website and then contact your local Servas consultant.

Find your country here:

In Russian Language here:

If you'd like to become a SERVAS HOST Click Here:

Happy traveling.

PS. This is what Wikipedia says about Servas.

Servas Philosophy

Servas is an international, non-governmental, interracial peace association run in over 100 countries by volunteers. Founded in 1948 by American Bob Luitweiler in Denmark. Servas International is a non-profit organisation working to build understanding, tolerance and world peace.

It operates through a network of Servas hosts around the world who are interested in opening their doors to travellers, and, "on the other side of the coin", many open-minded travellers who want to get to know the heart of the countries they visit.

SERVAS INTERNATIONAL has consultative status as a non-governmental organisation with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, currently with representation at many of the UN's hubs of activity.

There are over 13,000 Servas "open doors" scattered throughout almost every country in the world.

How does Servas work?

Through SERVAS, travellers have opportunities to meet hosts, their families and friends and join in their everyday life. Where convenient, hosts may offer two nights' accommodation and invite travellers to share a meal.

Names and addresses of hosts appear in annually produced lists which are made available to approved travellers. Servas hosts are just a cross-section of ordinary people.

How do I join?

The only requirement to join SERVAS as a host is the willingness to offer hospitality to travellers of any race and culture.

SERVAS encourages travellers to experience other societies more deeply and with more understanding than they would be likely to do as "just plain tourists".

In both cases, you will probably have to meet an experienced Servas member first.

Who do I get in touch with?

Imperishable Body of Russian Buddhist Lama

By Nataly Teplitsky

Epoch Times San Francisco Staff - December 08, 2005

ULAN-UDE, Russia: A believer decorating the body of Hambo Lama Itighelov, a Siberian Buddhist leader who looks and feels just the same as when he died in 1927 in a temple in Ulan-Ude, the capital of the Buryat republic.

The body of Hambo Lama Itighelov, who was a spiritual leader of Russian Buddhists from 1911 to 1927, was first exhumed from the grave in 1955, at the Lama's request. When after the third exhumation in 2002 after 75 years since the Lama's death, his body still showed no signs of decay, medical experts decided to examine the miracle.

The grave contained a wooden box and there was a sitting Buddhist lama in a 'lotus' position. His body was preserved as if it were mummified, however it was not. The body was covered with silk clothes and fabric. "Samples taken 75 years after the body had been buried, show that the organics of the skin, hair, and nails of the dead man aren't any different from that of a living human," a professor of history at the Russian State University for Humanities, Galina Yershova stated at a press-conference in "Interfax" central office in Moscow, according to

"His joints flex, the soft tissues are elastic just like in a living person, and after they opened the box, where the body of the Lama lay for 75 years, there was a very pleasant fragrance," Yershova was quoted as saying.

Yershova believes this is completely inconsistent with what one would expect of a body that has been buried for 75 years.

The body has become holy for Buddhists in the Russian region of Buryatia, where it now rests in the Ivolgin Buddhist Monastery in the regional capital of Ulan-Ude.

Hambo Lama Itighelov is a real person, well known in Russian history. He studied at the Anninsky Datsan, the Buddhist University in Buryatia. Itighelov got degrees in medicine and philosophy (on the nature of emptiness). He also created an encyclopedia of pharmacology.

In 1911, Itighelov became a Hambo Lama (the head of Buddhist church in Russia). During the period from 1913 to 1917, he opened the first Buddhist temple in St. Petersburg. Itighelov published religious tractates and teachings and united many of the religion's factions.

He was invited to celebrate the 300-th anniversary of Romanov's house, and on March 19, 1917, the Russian Tsar Nikolai II gave him St. Stanislav Award.

During the First World War, Itighelov was helping the army with money, clothes and medications. He also had built a set of hospitals where lama doctors helped to cure wounded militants. For his contributions, Itighelov was awarded with St. Anna medal.

In 1926, he warned the Buddhist monks about the coming 'red' terror and advised them to flee to Tibet. But he himself never left Russia.

In 1927, Itighelov told lamas that he was preparing to leave this world. He started a meditation and soon was dead.

Itighelov left a testament where he had requested to bury him as he was, sitting in a 'lotus' position in the cedar box on a traditional cemetery. There was also a statement, where he asked monks to exhume him after several years.

His will was fulfilled in 1955 and in 1973 respectively, by Buddhist monks. But it was kept in secret, since all kinds of religions were forbidden under the communist rule.

The Soviet Union, under Stalin, repressed most manifestations of religion, executing hundreds of lamas and destroying 46 Buddhist temples and monasteries.

In the years since the Soviet Union collapse, across Russia the Buddhists have begun to thrive again, rebuilding ruined temples that attracted more followers.

On September 11, 2002, seventy five years after Itighelov's death, the body was for the third time lifted from the earth. This time there was a record of the event: a dozen of witnesses, including two forensic experts and a photographer.

Soon the Lama's body was transferred to Ivolginsky Datsan (a residence of today's Hambo Lama), where it was closely examined by monks, scientists and pathologists.

With the permission of the Buddhist clergy, scientists investigated samples of tissues of the "imperishable body". They compared them with those of living people.

When one of the scientists approached the body, she could clearly feel the warmth of his hands.

Professor Viktor Zvyagin from the Federal Center for Forensic Medicine, examined Itighelov's body in Ivolginsk last November, and conducted analyses of hair, skin and nail specimens after his return to Moscow. He concluded that Itighelov's body was in the condition of someone who had died 36 hours ago.

According to the results, the protein structure of the body was not damaged; it was identical to the one of a living person.

Scientists were dumbfounded by the results of the chemical composition of his body. They could not explain the fact that chemical elements in Itighelov's body were either absent or present in negligibly small quantities.

Two years had passed. Itighelov's body is now kept in the open air, without any temperature or humidity restrictions.

Nobody understands how the body can stay in this condition.

The official statement was issued about the body - very well preserved, without any signs of decay, muscles and inner tissues, soft joints and skin being intact. It was confirmed that the body was never embalmed or mummified.

"He was 75 years old, and he promised to return to his followers after another 75 years," Yanzhima Vasilyeva, the director of Itigilov's Institute, said.

"The most amazing thing is that he was still sitting upright. Scientists say that after two weeks a dead body cannot stay upright on its own," Vasilyeva continued.

Itighelov's caretaker Bimbo Lama, stays close to his teacher almost at all times.

Once in a while he changes Itighelov's clothing, and at that time Lama's joints become more flexible. Bimbo lama has noted that while changing the clothes, he could smell a fragrance coming from the teacher's body.

The lamas have dressed the body in a golden robe, with a blue sash laid across his lap. His eyes are closed, his features blurred, though the shape of his face and his nose doubtlessly resemble his picture taken in 1913. His hands remain flexible, his nails perfectly trimmed. His skin is soft. His head is still covered in short-trimmed hair.

According to Professor Yershova, this is the only confirmed and recorded case of the body, imperishable over such a long period of time in the entire world.

Embalming and mummifying is well known among different nations and peoples - Egyptian mummies, Christian Saints, communist leaders and others. Some bodies were found in permafrost, however when they contacted with oxygen atmosphere they perished within several hours.

Lamas from the temple relate many miracles, taking place around the "precious body". Some people become magically healed upon seeing the body of Hambo Lama.

Itighelov said before his death that he had left a message to all people on Earth.

"There is a great moral crisis in Russia today," Vasilyeva said, "Itighelov's return presents a great opportunity to help people believe."

A fragment of the interview with Hambo Lama Ayusheyev, the spiritual leader since 1995, has been also demonstrated at the press-conference.

"Many people don't see what's obvious," he said. "Many people won't understand even if they see him."

However, there are descriptions of such things in Buddhist texts, but there were no confirmed examples. Well, now it looks like there is one. And that time came to comprehend the Lama's unspoken message.

"To me, it is the greatest miracle in life," said Hambo Lama Ayusheyev. "It turns out there are things on which time has no power."

Best Prayer Seen In A Long Time...

Heavenly Father, Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student , balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progr ess are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love.
