Amnesty International: AMINA LAWAL SET TO BE STONED ON - 27 AUGUST 2003
The Nigerian Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence for Amina Lawal, condemned for the crime of adultery on August 19th 2002, to be buried up to her neck and stoned to death. Her death was postponed so that she could continue to nurse her baby. Hearing on her Execution is now set for 27 AUGUST 2003. If you haven't been following this case, you might like to know that Amina's baby is regarded as the 'evidence' of her adultery. The Spanish branch of Amnesty International, which is attempting to put together enough signatures to make the Nigerian government rescind the death sentence, is handling Amina’s case. A similar campaign saved another Nigerian woman, Safiya, condemned in similar circumstances. By March 4th the petition had amassed over 2,600,000 signatures. It will only take you a few seconds to sign Amnesty's online petition. Please sign the petition now, then copy this message into a new email and send it to people in your address book. 2003 Ozone Hole May Be Record Size, Australia Says (August 25)
SYDNEY - The ozone hole over the Antarctic is growing at a rate that suggests it could be headed for a record size this year, Australian scientists said. A study by Australian Antarctic bases attributed the development to colder temperatures in the stratosphere where the ozone hole forms. "The growth at the moment is similar to 2000 when the hole was a record size," Australian Antarctic Division scientist Andrew Klekociuk told Reuters on Friday.

Earth set for Mars close encounter
Mars will make its closest approach to Earth for almost 60,000 years on Wednesday. Dr Robin Catchpole, senior astronomer at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, London, explains how to witness the event. Every 26 months, the Earth overtakes Mars on the inside track as they both orbit the Sun. Every 15 to 17 years, this happens when Mars is closest to the Sun. On 27 August this year they will pass at a distance of 55,760,000 km or 0.3727 AU (1 AU is the distance of the Earth from the Sun), closer than any time during the last 60,000 years.

Bush's pollution charter (August 23 BY Julian Borger)
Republican supporting energy firms set to escape controls on emissions - The Bush administration plans to open a huge loophole in America's air pollution laws, allowing an estimated 17,000 outdated power stations and factories to increase their carbon emissions with impunity. Critics of draft regulations due to be unveiled by the US environmental protection agency next week say they amount to a death knell for the Clean Air Act, the centrepiece of US regulation. The rules could represent the biggest defeat for American environmentalists since the Bush administration abandoned the Kyoto Treaty on global warming two years ago. But the energy industry welcomed them, saying they were essential for maintaining coal-fired power stations. The regulations are being challenged by 13 states including New York. If adopted, they would represent a multi-million dollar victory for energy corporations, most of whom are significant Republican contributors, and who were consulted in the drafting of the administration's energy plan by vice-president Dick Cheney in 2001. The US accounts for a quarter of the world's carbon emissions, 10% more than all of western Europe combined. Environmentalists fear that, by relaxing its controls even further, America could undermine attempts to persuade other countries to stick to the targets laid out by Kyoto. Under the current rules set in 1977, industrial sites built before the Clean Air Act are exempt from its controls until they are upgraded in any way, beyond "routine maintenance", that increases emissions. At that point companies have to install filters and other controls or face penalties. Under the draft rules, seen by the Guardian, corporations can do far more than "routine maintenance" - investing in old plant up to 20% of its total value at a time - without having to spend money on anti-pollution equipment. The figure of 20% is highly controversial, and in some places in the document has been replaced by an "X". Elsewhere the figure has been left, apparently as an oversight.

Nearly half of Americans wouldn't vote for Bush again (August 20)
WASHINGTON (AFP) - A growing number of Americans don't want to see US President George W. Bush re-elected next year, and fear US troops will be drawn into a long, costly occupation of Iraq, according to a Newsweek poll. For the first time the poll has found that more registered voters -- 49 percent -- would not want Bush to return for a second term in office if the elections were now, compared with 44 percent who would. Only 23 percent said terrorism and homeland security would be the most important issues for them in the November 2004 election, compared with 48 percent who said deciding factors for them now would be the economy and jobs. Meanwhile, 69 percent are now convinced the United States will become bogged down in Iraq, without achieving ostensible goals in getting the country back on its feet. CLIP

Subject: World Healing Day - September 10

A global linkup to raise world consciousness and promote world healing

You are invited to participate in a global event to help further the awakening of planetary consciousness. This is a day for people across the world to unite in spirit and hold a collective vision of universal love and peace, a day for raising our consciousness, and increasing our healing and self-realisation.

Please observe the day in a way that is meaningful to you. Suggestions include journeying to places of beauty and power to connect with the Earth, and gathering at local parks, beaches, or town centres, or at an event dedicated to the theme of the day, such as a peace concert, a seminar, a forum, religious service, or a celebration. You can also honour the day on your own in your own space. Whatever you do, dedicate your intention to the expansion of love and awareness on the Planet, so that healing may occur. Experience your connection with all, and as you do, sense the ripples of what you are doing spreading outwards to uplift all.

Simultaneous worldwide meditations will take place at 12 noon GMT (1pm in the UK) and 16.30 GMT (5.30pm in the UK). Each meditation linkup will last for at least 20 minutes, and will consist of clear and focused positive thought. During this time, keep in your mind and heart a vision of a world in which all live in peace, harmony, and joy. See conflict and suffering being replaced with compassion, forgiveness, and awareness in all areas of life. Visualise light spreading across the Planet as world consciousness is raised.

Leaflets, further information, and a special music CD are available. If you would like to receive any of these or be connected up with others in your area, please let us know, or visit the website. For inland replies please enclose an SAE. Donations of any amount will be gratefully received (payable to 'World Healing Project') and will help to finance the project.

Received from Commander Korton of the Galactic Federation of Light on August 26, 2003

by K.C. Soliel

Write this down.

This is to be broadcast through your networks.

We are moving now. A complex interactive and interdimensional force for the good of all beings has been activated by those of you on Earth who set the intention for change.

The Light that has been accumulating for aeons is now exploding upon your consciousness and upon the Earth.

There has never been a mass inter-dimensional first‚ contact such as this (before). Mother Earth and her children are already triumphant.

The shrouds of dark deception have melted before the purity of your collective loving intent.

Borrowing from the words of the Beatitudes "The meek have inherited the Earth." Meek does not mean weak‚ or stupid and sheep-like‚. What it means is the opposite of being driven by delusion, ego and lack of love. It means clear-hearted and filled with the love that is happy to sacrifice personal comfort for the well-being of all.

You left the lighted realms to set in motion this transformation knowing that you would do it within the black-out of forgetting.

Yet your DNA held the key. It was there, dormant, waiting for you to come again into calm centre, into the still point of infinite power.

You learned to survive while listening to the heart messages within. You learned to be in the world yet tuned into the pulse of heart creation, which seemed to be both you‚ and other‚.

Now you integrate - synthesize - and, by loving those aspects of yourself that society has called bad, you have set up change beyond imagining - a change beyond duality.

Stunned are we by what you, both as individuals and collectively, have done.

The change was not set in place by teams of conditioned, semi-aware slaves to desire, led by the ideals of a few. It was done by the innocent simplicity of those who dared to see the integrated wholeness of who they really are, and then, through that wise and clear vision, to look up yet live in the world of flesh and form.

Delusion cannot resist the tide of awakening. Delusion's tissue of lies is in tatters at the feet of those who have chosen to turn off the delusion machines of the controlled mass media and the subtle machinations of the truth tamperers.

By not buying into the tinsel dreams or the thunderclouds of terror threats, you stand clear and free.

Your job now is to detach from the illusion. It is to centre and live your truth. Love your neighbour. Hold his hand as he walks through the flames with the shards of delusionary civilisation‚ lying around him. Speak kindly to him as his plastic dreams melt. Gently hold her arm as the illusionary securities dissolve away. Let her know that love without limit ˆ unconditional love - is arriving now in her heart and arriving simultaneously in the hearts of all around her.

As you move into source love, those in the lighted realms move into your presence. We have never been away. For we are you. We are your family. Even now, I hold your hand. I/We are one.

Soon what your heart knows will be reflected in the green shoots of hope rising up between the concrete ruins of your cities. The light that has no end will illuminate your experience of being whole and human.

We are with you. We are you. Distance and proximity exist only in limited consciousness. Even as you come to us in heart and mind, we gather around you in physical expression. It is your gift to us. You have extended our spectrum of experience even as you open to your wholeness.

Feel your brethren's love as we hold you in heart, mind and body now. We love you. We move nearer now. Open your hearts and we are with you NOW.

Subject: Dennis Kucinich for President!

Dear friends!

CLIP (long introduction edited out)

As we all know, there will be a presidential election in America in 2004. A major part our Mother Earth's fate depends on the result of this election. Because of this undeniable fact we are taking side for the first time because we will all be affected by this election just as we were all deeply affected by the outcome of the last election in the United States. We have discovered that there is one candidate among all the Republican and Democrat candidates, only one, who is able to make a change towards betterment from within and in a peaceful way. This man is Dennis Kucinich. This man, becoming the main candidate of the Democrats and being elected as President of the United States in 2004, is the only one who gave his word to correct the many things which went wrong and which caused so many worries in all of us.

Dennis Kucinich would establish a national health insurance and Medicare for all. Full retirement benefits would return to age 65. Among the first actions of a Kucinich administration would be the withdrawal from NAFTA and the WTO to be replaced by fair trade agreements. The Patriot Act would be repealed. A woman's right to choose would be protected as essential to privacy and gender equality. Homosexual partners would be granted complete equality throughout society. Drug policy would emphasize treatment over punishment. An end to capital punishment would be sought. The rights of workers to organize and bargain collectively would be defended tenaciously. It is time for living wages, not minimum wages! 500 billion dollars would be invested to rebuild schools, roads, bridges, ports and sewage, water and environmental systems. The education system would be massively supported, because quality education for all is a core American right and value.

Under Kucinich, America would return to its role as the most admired - not hated - nation. The doctrine of "pre-emption" would be retired, as would an aggressive, unilateral foreign policy. America would return to bilateral and multilateral cooperation with the U.N. instead of acting like an Empire, arrogantly undermining international agreements such as the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, the ABM Conventions, the Small Arms Treaty, the International Criminal Court, and the Kyoto Climate Treaty. The Space Preservation Treaty would be implemented and a new cabinet-level Department of Peace would establish non-violence as an organizing principle in both domestic and international affairs. Kucinich would cut bloated and unneeded weaponry from a military budget that now almost equals the military spending of all other countries combined and would invest the peace dividend in various pressing domestic needs.

An administration under Kucinich would break up agricultural monopolies and restore a strong, independent family farm system with fair prices for farmers and healthy food for consumers. It would monitor and reduce contamination of the air, water and food from factory farms, with strong USDA enforcement of tough new food safety laws. It would support the Kyoto Treaty, reduce oil dependence and spur investment in alternative energy sources. Clean air and water, as well as an intact ozone layer, are not luxuries, but necessities for all children's future.

Dennis Kucinich is a true chance for America and a hope for the entire planet. With all our energy we shall help and encourage the American People to decide for a better - the only possible - future of our Earth with this candidate.

Horrifying US Secret Weapon Unleashed In Baghdad

By Bill Dash

A nightmarish US super weapon reportedly was employed by American ground forces during chaotic street fighting in Baghdad. The secret tank-mounted weapon was witnessed in all its frightening power by Majid al-Ghazali, a seasoned Iraqi infantryman who described the device and its gruesome effects as unlike anything he had ever encountered in his lengthy military service. The disturbing revelation is yet another piece of cinematic evidence brought back from postwar Iraq by intrepid filmmaker Patrick Dillon.

In the film, al-Ghazali, whose english is less than fluent, describes the weapon as reminiscent of a flame thrower, only immensely more powerful. It is unclear what principle the weapon is based on. Searching for a description, al-Ghazali said it appeared to be shooting concentrated lightning bolts rather than just ordinary flames. Drawing on his many years as a professional engineer, al-Ghazali speculates that radiation of some kind probably figures into the weapon's hideous capabilities. Like all men in Saddam's Iraq, al-Ghazali was compelled to serve in the Iraqi equivalent of the Army National Guard and fought in three wars over the past thirty-odd years. Via email, he told me he has seen virtually every type of conventional weapon employed in battle, and is well acquainted with their effects on people and machines, but nothing in his extensive combat experience prepared him for the shock of what he saw in Baghdad on April 12th.

On that date, al-Ghazali and his family sheltered in their house as a fierce street battle erupted in his neighborhood. In the midst of the fighting, he noticed that the Americans had called up an oddly configured tank. Then to his amazement the tank suddenly let loose a blinding stream of what seemed like fire and lightning, engulfing a large passenger bus and three automobiles. Within seconds the bus had become semi-molten, sagging "like a wet rag" as he put it. He said the bus rapidly melted under this withering blast, shrinking until it was a twisted blob about the dimensions of a VW bug. As if that were not bizarre enough, al-Ghazali explicitly describes seeing numerous human bodies shriveled to the size of newborn babies. By the time local street fighting ended that day, he estimates between 500 and 600 soldiers and civilians had been cooked alive as a result of the mysterious tank-mounted device.

In a city littered everywhere with burned-out civilian and military vehicles, US forces were abnormally scrupulous about immediately detailing bulldozers and shovel crews to the job of burying the grim wreckage. Nevertheless, telltale remnants remained as Dillon found when al-Ghazali later took him to the site. Dillon said they easily uncovered large puddles of resolidified metal and mounds of weird fibrous material that, al-Ghazali explained, were all that remained of the vehicles' tires. Dillon, who accumulated plenty of battlefield experience as a medic in Viet-Nam, and has since covered a number of wars from Somalia to Kosovo, told me that he has witnessed every kind of conventional ordnance that can be used on humans and vehicles. "I've seen a freaking smorgasbord of destruction in my life," he said, "flame-throwers, napalm, white phosphorous, thermite, you name it. I know of nothing short of an H-bomb that conceivably might cause a bus to instantly liquefy or that can flash broil a human body down to the size of an infant. God pity humanity if that thing is a preview of what's in store for the 21st century."

For Majid al-Ghazali, images of the terrifying weapon and its victims haunt his every day. In addition to his work as an engineer, he is also a highly accomplished classical violinist, occupying the first chair in the Baghdad Symphony. He is widely acknowledged as one of the preeminent violinists in the Middle East. Besides his family, one of his greatest joys is teaching at Baghdad's premier music conservatory. Unfortunately, the conservatory was utterly destroyed. Yet somehow, despite the war's horrors and its seemingly endless privations, he manages to maintain a remarkably hopeful outlook. He recently informed me that the Baghdad Symphony continues to exist and has been invited to perform in the United States in December.

The unbridgeable chasm of doubt

Why faith and government don't mix

By John Kaminski

Sometimes, what is obvious to some remains invisible to others. Why this is so usually involves matters of preconceived beliefs.

We all have selective memories. From the relationship between two people to how each of us perceives the whole world, we see what we are able to see and tend to ignore those things we can't comprehend. We choose to see what continues to make us comfortable, and tend to avoid what threatens our world view. Often what we choose not to see turns out to be the most important thing of all, and we suffer for it.

And it just makes it worse when you know you saw it, and didn't do anything about it.

Two people can get together and each insist that one loves the other, but often neither can perceive what the other is saying, because their frames of reference are either too different, or something in the behavior of one sends one a signal that his words are not to be trusted, or she is not being sincere, even though both believe their sincerity is beyond question. From such dilemmas, wars and divorces erupt like poison mushrooms in a darkened yard. This unbridgeable chasm of doubt has been recently made vivid to me on several levels, though in the interests of decorum, I will say no more about this phenomenon as it has affected me on a personal level, except to mention that someone I loved whom I thought had abandoned me had in fact not done so, once a few misunderstood words were better understood.

On a larger level, I see a terrible legacy of cruelty reaching new heights and emanating from the inexplicable unwillingness of the American people not to clearly see the true character of events so disastrously unfolding before their eyes. The power of Old Glory waving in the winds of memory, perhaps, keeps so many from seeing so much, from truly believing that those we would venerate and respect could do harm to us — willing, pernicious, lethal harm. And it is precisely this faith in American society — this socially reinforced mythos — that allows rich criminals to get away with what they do, as they hide behind the very trust they exploit.

It is part of a penalty to be paid when you mix faith and government.

People who've worked hard all their lives and enjoyed the modest successes of home and family are not eager to denounce a system that has given them such a good life. And those who aren't paying attention — and today, exclusively watching TV means you're not getting the information you need — do not fully realize that everything has changed, that the admired American principles that always seemed to be envied by the world are not only no longer in force, but perhaps possibly never even existed at all.

Such is the case with many when you try to tell them that our leaders not only had foreknowledge but also helped arrange some of the most unspeakable crimes this planet has ever witnessed. Go ahead, just try to tell someone you think George W. Bush knew about the 9/11 horror in advance. Their eyes just roll, and they sputter, "Go live in another country and see what it's like." The facts you can muster to support such an assertion do not really matter to them, because they have chosen not to 'go there.'

It becomes a little less difficult when you talk about Iraq, and easier still for those with some familiarity with the Internet, because they at least have been exposed to alternative, more authentic viewpoints than those exclusively expressed on the corporate controlled propaganda TV networks. On TV there are no innocent Iraqi civilians (read: woman and children) being gunned down by panicked American soldiers, nor American soldiers getting sick and preparing to die from the radioactive ammunition their government furnished them and told them was safe.

But 9/11 is one of those things that it is impossible to communicate to those many naive souls who just cannot believe that the leaders of this country would countenance something so repugnant merely to steal a few billion dollars. Many of you have doubtless heard such distressed responses. "Oh, they would never do something like that. They could never get away with it."

Equally, many of you doubtless know that these same leaders have in fact perpetrated these very deeds, and you realize in your heart that their pious phrases of patriotism are just so much smoke to screen the cash they pocketed for participating in the deadly deceptions.

But for most to seriously consider that the terror tragedy of 9/11 was a staged event devised to usher in a new era of corporate plunder throughout the world requires a total reevaluation of everything they've ever known, or thought they knew. It requires changing your life. And most people, no matter how poor or how screwed by corporate downsizing and/or emigration to cheaper foreign labor markets, simply refuse to change. It's just too difficult.

As long as they can keep food and a roof, the possibility that their leaders would do such a thing remains beyond the realm of probability, beyond the reach of their comprehension, beyond their willingness to see.

And you can hit them over the head with evidence — why did the president block an independent investigation? why was the World Trade Center evidence carted off before it was examined? why was the report of the official probe a whitewash that didn't ask any of the basic questions? why did we go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq? why were there so many lies told about it?

These are all questions that the government is afraid to answer, and that people are mostly afraid to ask. Because to ask these questions about the suspicions of criminal behavior of their government requires asking the same questions about their own criminal behavior — how their conspicuous consumption of gasoline, electricity, and other resources destroys the lives of other people and other species all over the world.

You don't have to think about it too long before you realize — if you're perceptive enough — that the behavior of American consumers (and consumers in other high-tech countries, too) is responsible for much of the serious raping of the planet that is now taking place, and threatening all our lives.

And that is simply too much for most people to consider, busy as they are with their meaningless trivialities cultivated by television that ultimately mean nothing to anyone.

It seems to me that a great opportunity has been missed in a potential investigation of what actually happened on September 11, 2001. And I'm not talking about the cover-up, specifically, although that is certainly a great opportunity that has been missed. Now we are realizing that the 9/11 treason and murder probably will remain unsolved for all time, just like the Kennedy assassination.

When we discovered that the highest officials in the United States not only knew 9/11 was going to happen (and that is a certainty with thousands of footnotes), but profited mightily from that knowledge, this revelation could have offered a tremendous window into the political behavior of the American nation. And in analyzing that political behavior, we could have seen how throughout the 20th century — and for some years before that — it has been the movers and shakers in the United States who have engineered all the wars, all for the profit of those cagey industrialists, bankers and investors who saw monstrous rewards to be made by fomenting strife and furnishing the methods and opportunities to reap them.

If we could have blown the lid off the inside job of 9/11, identified the perpetrators and made our charges stick, it would have given us a window to track down who profited from the military assaults on all the countries we convinced our citizens we were in to save democracy, or to repel a rebel threat. Perhaps scariest of all, we could have seen how Germany had developed a barter economy prior to World War II that excluded Western banks from their dealings, or that Japan was forced into attacking us because a few bankers cut off their line of credit, and therefore their supply of oil. We could have seen how we killed all those people in all those countries just to make a few bucks, and sacrificed not a few of our own good sons in the process.

A legitimate probe of 9/11 — not like the sham that was just perpetrated that didn't address any of the really major questions — would have shed light on the corporate powers that control the media and the White House, and maybe — just maybe — would have taken that large step to show the deluded American populace that we are neither a democracy nor a republic, that we are a corporate-controlled police state whose leaders are savaging their own citizens simply to make more money for themselves and the rich friends who put them in office in the first place.

But in the unbridgeable chasm of doubt, those are questions Americans remain afraid to ask. No single presidential candidate has asked a single legitimate question about who made the money off 9/11, no single presidential candidate is talking about how depleted uranium and spurious untested vaccinations are squandering the lives of our own military personnel, no single presidential candidate is demanding that America be returned to the people who own her — namely us.

Most average citizens are simply afraid to contemplate such a question out of fear of reprisals by authorities (instances of which are already numerous) or other social repercussions (such as loss of job).

Patriotism in America is now the province of outright fools and those who are paid handsomely to mouth the phony slogans while they fix elections, pander to Israel and keep feeding the armsmakers while our bridges crumble, our manufacturing jobs disappear overseas, our food is poisoned, and our savings are taken by rich power czars who confer immunity on themselves because they contribute large sums of cash to those who make our laws.

It's hard to be patriotic in a country that has become completely corrupt, and an undeniable menace to all life on this planet. It's hard to be patriotic in a country that cynically kills its own soldiers after lying about the reasons it went to war. It's hard to be patriotic in a country that has exchanged truth for cash, and woe to you if you don't have the latter.

But most Americans have chosen not to see this. Instead, they watch the TV lies, attend the flag-waving rallies, and hope all these crises will blow over and the land they knew will be returned to them. Well, go ask a Palestinian how that strategy works!

Beyond affection between two people, and out past the way one looks at the world, there is a third aspect of the unbridgeable chasm of doubt that affects us all, in one way or another. That, of course, involves matters of faith and spirit.

I sometimes think that because we are asked to believe the unbelievable in matters of religion, and because we tend to venerate the (usually) men who act as intermediaries between us and the divinity, that we sometimes get confused about the veneration of our secular leaders. Many who practice the various religions feel that their holy men should not be challenged, and some of those doubtless extend that courtesy to their leaders.

That could be another reason why so relatively few are willing to challenge the 9/11 lies, as some who wrap themselves in red, white and blue assert. Certainly leaders of most states never fail to invoke the deity as a reference for the integrity of their proposals. Some of the more demented evangelical denominations even insist that our president's cynical invective is holy unto itself.

In our own case here in America, George W. Bush recently embarrassed himself and all Americans by claiming at a forum in Israel that it was God who had commanded him to smite the Afghanis and the Iraqis, and now he was going to do it again (and surely again and again) against various Islamic countries.

Hopefully, anyone who read this story would realize the insanity about mixing God with world affairs, but unfortunately a majority of the world's populations do not, and Bush's rhetoric sounds too much like political leaders of other faiths who make similar claims about other targets.

You can tell, if you are capable of listening with any degree of skepticism and discernment, that any political speech that is tied to supernatural sanctions is false on its face, although it is a tribute to the degree of decline in the intelligence of the American populace that much political invective is now infused with these approvals of God, not the least of which is all this faith-based chatter that dominates the Bush administration's murderous lies.

You remember our Founding Fathers, The ones so speciously decommissioned by Bush's Patriot Act. Separation of church and state. There was a very good reason for that Constitutional precaution.

While in matters of the heart or of the soul, faith and spirit are indispensable components of the feelings that lead to happiness and love, that lead to a conquering of the unbridgeable chasm of doubt. How else to bridge the unbridgeable but by the great leap of faith and trust?

But in matters of government, faith is a liability, a danger, that always leads to deception and discrimination. One need only look at the current headlines about Iraq lies and 9/11 cover-ups to realize that this is an eternal truth.

The unbridgeable chasm of doubt is growing between two forces in the world: those who believe that money is the measure of all things and that caring about the welfare of others is a needless distraction from the true task of accumulating the most toys and the greatest amount of leisure time — and those who believe that love and compassion are the most important elements of our transit through this existence, that humanity and selflessness are the greatest assets of our species, and that stealing from others is only harming yourself.

This chasm is growing. War has been the only solution to it. Meanwhile, all around us, the world continues to burn, leaving the concept of love mere dust in the wind, ashes in the gutter of a hollow and pornographic civilization that clearly does not deserve to survive.

And those perched on the precipice of this unbridgeable chasm of doubt are fast approaching the time when they will be forced to make the leap. They are fast reaching the point of realizing that it is too late to do what they should have done back there along the trail when they realized what they should have done, but cash got in the way.

Speak out now. We're running out of time. Don't make your solution some religious fantasy that helps no one but yourself and excludes others from your prayers. It's time to get real. Just look at what the unreal has done to us all.

Yesterday, in an attempt to find out more about the death of NBC reporter, David Bloom, I spoke with the former head of the Pentagon Depleted Uranium Investigation Team, Dr. Doug Rokke.

Rokke was the man who went to Iraq a decade ago on a mission to report on depleted uranium (DU). What he found was so horrifying the Pentagon scuttled his work and tried to make him an invisible man. Rokke suffered uranium poisoning himself. But his medical records, and those of who knows how many thousands of other soldiers, do not reflect that. History has been suppressed, has been re-written.

Our conversation began with me asking Rokke if he thought that the announced cause of David Bloom's death, pulmonary embolism, could have resulted from DU. But Rokke stopped me short. He said, "This was the diagnosis they immediately gave out? I don't see how. You can't diagnose that from the battlefield. You really need an autopsy to discover whether that's the cause..."

Which opened up new questions. Rokke began to talk about conditions in the Gulf now. He said that the PR about the US limiting civilian casualties is absurd, because, for example, the Pentagon admits to losing 700 cruise missiles that have been fired at Baghdad in the current campaign. In other words, those missiles strayed off course and no one really knows where they landed and exploded. "700 missiles, each one loaded with DU, is 700,000 pounds of explosives," he said. 700,000 pounds of explosives going off, spreading cancer-causing uranium in all directions.

Rokke then informed me that, since 1990, and up to the beginning of Gulf War 2, some 260,000 US soldiers have been granted disability. 10,000 have died. I'm relaying these facts to you in a sober way, but of course I was staggered as Rokke talked. He painted a picture of the Iraqi landscape as a toxic soup. DU, yes. But also many other toxins, because as he explained, when bombs and missiles rip up ANY material that is composite or synthetic, like plastics, you get all sorts of poisonous byproducts. And that, for example, is what happened at the WTC on 9/11. Rokke said, "I trained a lot of those first health responders. They're dead now."

Rokke, over the years, together with colleagues, has issued report after report describing what, in essence, are the inevitable consequences of modern warfare as it is carried out. A lingering toxic landscape that kills over time.

When Rokke was in the Gulf a decade ago, one of his fears was confirmed: the masks worn to protect against DU don't work. They can't filter out the smallest and deadliest particles of uranium. "We could taste the stuff [uranium]," he said. Rokke states that the Pentagon is completely aware of the dangers to US solders and combatants, and just doesn't care.

I asked him why DU is used in projectile shells and missiles. He told me it was because uranium is so dense the weight of impact on a target causes a lot more damage. And, he said, these shells are not merely coated or tipped with uranium, as some Pentagon people have stated. They are packed with it. Rokke likened the situation to having uranium rods in your backyard. He went on to explain that the PB pills US soldiers have been taking, as protection against nerve gas, are themselves nerve agents. If taken immediately before a nerve-gas attack -- and then followed up with two other medicines -- the soldier might get
protection from nerve gas. But the PB pills are being swallowed long in advance of any
possible contact with nerve gas. In essence, soldiers are getting "nerve gas" attacks FROM

Rokke mentioned a number of sites around the world -- Afghanistan and the former Yugoslavia, and places in the US -- where DU is a major problem right now. By this point in our conversation, Rokke was piecing together an emerging picture of modern war as both murder and suicide. He predicted the consequences of the Iraq war are going to be worse than Gulf War 1. Worse, in terms of damage and death to US troops and the Iraqi people.

I hung up the phone stunned. I can only ask that you get this information out to as many people as possible. To give the widest possible benefit of the doubt to mainstream news reporters, THEY JUST DON'T KNOW. They have no idea what they are supporting when they allow the picture of this war to be painted as a careful and controlled campaign. All those maps and arrows and targets -- they need to be enveloped in a cloud of MULTIPLE POISONS. Then we would have some concept of what is really going on -- and what is going to happen when it's over.

Rokke mentioned that, between Gulf War 1 and the start of Gulf 2, the Iraqis tried to build new water treatment facilities in Basra. To clean up their horrible, illness-causing contaminated water. Each time they tried, he said, those emerging facilities were destroyed...

Military Mute On Vaccine Danger? (August 21, 2003)
(CBS) A half million U.S. soldiers were inoculated for the war with Iraq. Some of them got sick after their vaccinations. Whether the vaccines were to blame remains an open question because, as CBS News Correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports, the military may not be reporting all the cases properly.
