NOTE FROM JEAN: Economic democracy would seem to be a good
alternative to the corrupted system we have: "Economic democracy
is described as an integral component of an inclusive
democracy, in Towards An Inclusive Democracy as a stateless, moneyless and
marketless economy that precludes private accumulation of wealth and
the institutionalization of privileges for some sections of society,
without relying on a mythical post-scarcity state of abundance, or
sacrificing freedom of choice. The proposed system aims to meet the
basic needs of all citizens (macro-economic decisions), and secure
freedom of choice (micro-economic decisions)." Of course, this
rarely mentioned vision (MUCH MORE ON THIS HERE) proposed in 1997
looks quite theoretical and doesn't seem to have much traction in the
real world so far but at least it fleshes out a bit what could make a
more humane and just world possible. But to me, a profound and global
change of consciousness from the current winner-take-all, fear-driven
mindset to a deep realization of our oneness with all Life and All
That Is would seem to be a key condition to help foster the emergence
of a new era of Peace, Love and Harmony on Earth (Incidentally, John
Perkins basically says the same thing in this interview. In the
meantime, we can only hope that big governments in cahoot with big
corporations won't let too many more people fall into abject poverty
and die of starvation... And of course, it would help if each one of
us lived a simpler life so that others could simply live.

Targets to cut the number of hungry people in the world will not
be met without greater international effort, UN food agencies have
warned. The UN's annual report on global food security confirms that
more than one billion people - a sixth of the world's population - are
undernourished.It says the number of hungry people was growing before
the economic crisis, which has made the situation worse. (...)
"The World Food Summit target of reducing the number of
undernourished people by half to no more than 420 million by 2015 will
not be reached if the trends that prevailed before those crises
continue." The report, released in Rome, says the economic
downturn has reduced foreign aid and investment in poorer countries
and cut remittances from those working abroad. It says the loss of
income is compounded by food prices that are "still relatively

World Food Day: There is enough food grown in the world for
everyone

low-carbon and resource-scarce world simply by further intensifying
today's farming industry. Agriculture needs to be rebuilt along
entirely different lines and poor farmers and countries made central
to that change. Countries must invest in farmer-driven extension
schemes and social safety nets to help the poorest people to buy food
locally from small-scale farmers and traders. Meanwhile, climate
change is already causing massive shifts in seasonal growing patterns,
especially in the tropics where most poor people live and farm.
Agriculture contributes 14% to global carbon emissions, therefore
changing the way that farmers use their lands and forests will be
important in how we cut emissions and help people to cope to climate
harm. Poor farmers must not be left bearing the costs of these
changes, which is why climate finance is such a deal-breaker at

In his first speech before the United Nations General Assembly
this September, President Obama optimistically pledged that the United
States would not only support the Millennium Development Goals but
would, quote, "set our sights on the eradication of extreme poverty
in our time." Earlier this year, the IMF and the World Bank warned
the financial crisis posed a serious challenge to reducing poverty.
The World Bank predicted the economic crisis could push another 53
million people in the global South into poverty. Well, according to
the latest numbers from the UN, we're now up to 2.7 billion people
around the world who survive on less than two dollars a day, one
billion of whom live on less than a dollar a day. Given the dire
statistics and the widening gap between rich and poor, how can we see
the eradication of poverty? That's the central question of a new
documentary, The End of Poverty? It's narrated by actor and activist
Martin Sheen. The film has been described as An Inconvenient Truth for
global economics. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, opens in
New York this Friday. This is an excerpt that features political
scientist Susan George discussing how debt repayment fuels poverty in
the global South. SUSAN GEORGE: Let me give you just one statistic,
which I worked out in minutes, because otherwise it's
incomprehensible. Sub-Saharan Africa, which is the poorest part of the
world, is paying $25,000 every minute to Northern creditors. Well, you
could build a lot of schools, a lot of hospitals, a lot of job-you
could make a lot of job creation, if you were using $25,000 a minute
differently from debt repayment. So there's this drain. And I think
people don't understand that it is actually the South that is
financing the North. If you look at the flows of money from North to
South and then from South to North, what you find is that the South
is financing the North to the tune of about $200 billion every

managed to create the world's first truly global empire. And it's
basically a secret empire. We do it in many ways, but principally, we
identify a country that has resources that corporations covet, like
oil, arrange a huge loan to that country from the World Bank or one of
its sisters. The money never actually goes to the country; it goes to
our own corporations to build the infrastructure projects in that
country that help a few very wealthy people, but don't benefit the
majority of the people, who are too poor to buy electricity or have
cars to drive on the highways. And yet, they're left holding a huge
debt that they can't repay. So we go back at some point and say,
"You know, you can't pay your debts. Give us a pound of flesh. Sell
your oil real cheap to our oil companies. Vote with us on the next
critical UN vote. Allow us to build a military base in your backyard."

I failed with Jaime Roldos, president of Ecuador, Omar Torrijos of
Panama-the Jackals go in and either overthrow or assassinate these
leaders. And if the Jackals fail, as they did in Iraq, then we send in

Codex Alimentarius: Nutricide Will Commence December 31, 2009

More and more people are becoming concerned about the shady,
secretive organization that is Codex Alimentarius - the thinly-veiled
propaganda arm of global conglomerates that does everything it can
to control and limit individual options to maintain or increase
health. Codex alimentarius is one of the major bodies behind the
effort to limit access to nutritional products and information. Its
motivation is not rocket science and neither is the source of its
funding - money that somehow expected to return a profit to its
members. Most of the information available regarding codex
alimentarius refers to its role in the USA, but it is not a
US-specific body. Far from it, Codex has wiggled its dirty little
tentacles into just about every national or international body
concerned with public health. Posing as a benefactor, it then uses its
significant financial and political clout to do its masters bidding.
Behind the Codex Alimentarius Commission is the United Nations and the
World Health Organization working in conjunction with the
multinational pharmaceutical cartel and international banks. Its
initial efforts in the US with the FDA were defeated, so it found
another ally in the FTC. Now Codex, with the FTC and the
pharmaceutical cartel behind it, it threatens to become a trade issue,
using the campaign of Operation Cure-All to advance its goals.

production of genetically modified (GM) foods are stepped up and more
GM plants are given the green light. Terminator seeds will be approved
for international trade. GM food animals will also be on the way.Codex
poses a significant threat to the food supply, according to Dr. Robert
Verkerk, founder and director of the Alliance for Natural Health.
About 300 dangerous food additives that are mainly synthetic will be
allowed under Codex, including aspartame, BHA, BHT, potassium bromate,
tartrazine, and more. Dr. Verkerk is particularly concerned that no
consideration has been given to potential risks associated with
long-term exposure to mixtures of additives.According to John Hammell,
a legislative advocate and the founder of International Advocates for
Health Freedom (IAHF), here is what we have to look forward
to:"If Codex Alimentarius has its way, then herbs, vitamins,
minerals, homeopathic remedies, amino acids and other natural remedies
you have taken for granted most of your life will be gone. The name of
the game for Codex Alimentarius is to shift all remedies into the
prescription category so they can be controlled exclusively by the
medical monopoly and its bosses, the major pharmaceutical firms.
Predictably, this scenario has been denied by both the Canadian Health
Food Association and the Health Protection Branch of Canada (HPB). The
Codex Alimentarius proposals already exist as law in Norway and
Germany where the entire health food industry has literally been taken
over by the drug companies. In these countries, vitamin C above 200 mg
is illegal as is vitamin E above 45 IU, vitamin B1 over 2.4 mg and so
on. Shering-Plough, the Norway pharmaceutical giant, now controls an
Echinacea tincture, which is being sold there as an over the counter
drug at grossly inflated prices. The same is true of ginkgo and many
other herbs, and only one government controlled pharmacy has the right
to import supplements as medicines which they can sell to health food
stores, convenience stores or pharmacies."The world's food
supply is under attack due to corrupt governments and organizations
like Codex Alimentarius. This is most obvious in Africa, but the signs
of encroaching food control can now be seen in almost every nation on
Earth. It is now a criminal offence in parts of Europe to sell herbs
as foods. An agreement called EEC6565 equates selling herbs as foods
to selling other illegal drugs. Action is being taken to accelerate
other European countries into 'harmonization' as well. Paul Hellyer in
his book, "The Evil Empire," states: "Codex
Alimentarius is supported by international banks and multinational
corporations including some in Canada, and is in reality a bill of
rights for these banks and the corporations they control. It will hand
over our sovereign rights concerning who may or may not invest in our
countries to an unelected world organization run by big business. The
treaty would make it impossible for Canadian legislators either
federal or provincial to alter or improve environmental standards for
fear of being sued by multinational corporations whether operating in
Canada or not. This will create a world without borders ruled by a
virtual dictatorship of the world's most powerful central banks and
multinational companies. This world is an absolute certainty if we all

development from there, but until you put down your weapons of mass
destruction, you will be prevented from doing so. It is true that
there have been Galactic Wars, but as time passes so soul progression
takes place and peaceful co-existence becomes more wide spread.
The dark forces upon Earth have had ambitions to enslave you, and
extend their activities into Space. They already have bases upon the
Moon and Mars, and using force they would not hesitate to colonies
another world. However, no matter what they do they will not be
allowed to go outside your Solar System. Nuclear weapons are
quarantined so that they stay on Earth, and not allowed to be used in
connection with experimental or warlike activities. You might wonder
where the negative influences have come from that have plagued your
planet, and we can tell you that they have always existed in your
Universe because of its dual polarity. When the vibrations of your
mass consciousness drops very low you attract similar ones from
outside, and as a result powerful energies are formed that make them
harder to overcome. We are pleased to tell you that as a result of
your highest intentions for good, you have suddenly lifted out of the
depths of darkness. Hence, you now move even further away and into the
Light that is your path to Ascension.
There is so much truth in the expression "as above so below" and
this is why your upliftment into the higher dimensions, will find you
at home in surroundings that are acceptable and familiar to you. As a
collective of human souls that have originally come from all quarters
of the Universe, you are a microcosm of the macrocosm. Therefore
although dramatic and far-reaching changes are coming, they will be a
natural progression in your greater path to Cosmic Consciousness. You

We find that there are far more people who are now settled in peaceful
self-realization. They walk their life without fear and carry their
Light with them, raising the vibrations around them where ever they
go. The Light has formed a network of souls that are unknowingly
spreading it across the Earth. It is growing exponentially, and is a
great force for the good of all other souls. As we often suggest Dear
Ones walk in the awareness of your Light at all times, and your mere
presence will lift up those around you.
Everything is going well and much happens behind the scenes of which
you cannot yet be aware. Our allies slowly but surely make inroads
where there needs to be changes, and wait our go ahead to implement
our plan. They are often in vital positions that are essential to
success, and for the time being secrecy is necessary about their
activities. Our craft are often placed in such a way as to protect
them, and our presence is unknown because we are cloaked in
invisibility. Many craft already peer in to you world as they monitor
the dark Ones and their whereabouts. We have the thousands of nuclear
devices under our control, and you may rest easily as they will not be
allowed to be used. The dark are far from having it all their own way,
and we play by the rules where they do not. We are highly organized,
and they are in disarray because it has long become apparent to them
that they cannot win the battle between the dark and Light.
There is a new sense of achievement amongst Light workers, as they now
feel the changes in the vibrations and realize that upliftment is well
under way. These last few years have seen remarkable progress towards
Ascension, and more souls are awakening to their true potential. With
the advent of Disclosure and the revelations that will soon follow, we
expect even more souls to come out of their clouded view of life. No
one really likes to feel that they have been deliberately misled yet

Is the swine flu vaccine safe? Only a small portion of the
population has been vaccinated in most areas so far, and yet already
there is an avalanche of reports of adverse reactions to the H1N1
swine flu vaccine. Reports are pouring in from all over the
world even though the mainstream media seems extremely hesitant to
report on these cases. You see, most of the time the mainstream
media doesn't want to report on a "rare" reaction to the
H1N1 swine flu vaccine because they do not want to "alarm"
the public. The feeling in the mainstream media is that the
benefits of being vaccinated far outweigh the risks. Of course
that is a complete load of nonsense. When you read the reports
of adverse reactions to the vaccine in this article, keep in mind
that the majority of vaccine side effects such as autism,
neurological disorders, autoimmune diseases, Guillain-Barre Syndrome,
paralysis, infertility and cancer can take weeks or months to show
up. To have so many reports of adverse reactions show up so
early is a very troubling sign - and yet world health authorities
continue to insist that the H1N1 swine flu vaccine is perfectly
safe.
Even the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious
Diseases is openly admitting that "there's no vaccine, there's
nothing, that is 100 percent safe".
But do the benefits outweigh the risks?
Consider that question as you read the following reports from the
mainstream media about adverse reactions to the H1N1 swine flu

-In Brooklyn, one six year old girl with epilepsy was given the
H1N1 swine flu vaccine without permission and she reacted so
severely to it that she ended up in the hospital.
-A journalist working for the German news magazine Der Spiegel
reported that he became extremely ill with an extremely high fever,
chills and severe nausea just days after receiving a swine flu vaccine.
But the reports above are just the tip of the iceberg. There are
a whole lot more problems that we aren't hearing about.
*Regular Flu Vaccine- Two hours after administration, the patient had
a severe burning sensation in their hands and feet, headache, and
nausea/vomiting.
*Regular Flu Vaccine- Numbness of the arm where the shot was
administered for two days.
*Regular Flu Vaccine- Increased/abnormal pain with rash at the
injection site for two to three days.
*Regular Flu Vaccine- Approximately two to three weeks after
vaccination, the patient experienced Bell's Palsy. Bell's Palsy is a
condition in which the patient experiences facial drooping/paralysis
due to malfunction/inflammation of cranial nerve VII. The patient also
experienced body aches, headache, and malaise for 1-2 weeks. Bell's
Palsy is idiopathic/ cryptogenic in nature, and a diagnosis is formed
after ruling out other possibilities. The patient's physician stated
that the Regular Flu Vaccine could have caused the Bell's Palsy.
*Swine Flu Vaccine- Increased Body aches, nausea/vomiting, and
headache for 2 weeks for two separate patients.
*Regular Flu Vaccine- I spoke with an older African American male
about his grandfather... He stated his grandfather was a perfectly
healthy fellow who took no daily medicines and had no medical
conditions. The grandfather took his first Seasonal Flu Vaccine at the
age of 70 and died two days afterwards. This also happened to my great
grandfather as explained to me by my grandmother. Both seasonal flu
victims were healthy with no medical conditions, took no daily
prescribed medicines, were elderly but physically fit and died with
2-3 days of vaccination.
*Regular Flu Vaccine- Chest pain, nausea/vomiting, and severe headache
was a complaint of multiple patients...occurring within 3-6 hours of
administration.
Not only can the swine flu vaccine cause horrific side effects,
but for some people it can even mean potential death. A 4 year old boy
from Rochester, Minnesota almost died after getting the H1N1 swine flu

My friend was diagnosed w/GBS today. She had the H1N1 vaccine on
Tuesday. She woke up friday morn. with one side of her face paralized,
now almost her whole face is paralized. She is starting blood and
plasma transfusions tonight. She will be transferred to Barnes
hospital soon for more extensive testing. To those who laugh at the
severity of this strange, unknown sickness and vaccine I hope you stay

I am a healthcare employee?..the only vaccine offered to employees
was the live vaccine. I decided to get it and be the "guinea pig"
instead of my toddler. Received the nasal spray on Tuesday, woke up
Wednesday with a sore throat and stuffy nose, Thursday had a terrible
chest congestion/cough with fever and splitting headache, Friday all
symptoms were worse and I couldn't breathe! I was diagnosed on
Friday with H1N1 and pneumonia?.. good thing I got the vaccine,
huh?
Amy got her H1N1 flu shot today and had a nasty reaction. Just wanted
to let everyone know so they can beware if and when you get yours. I
am not getting one myself.
She lost her hearing, got diarreah, felt like she was going to pass
out, heart heart was very racey, she felt like she couldn't breath,
she was slurring her speech, her head felt very blurry/foggy etc.. She
really did not want to get it to begin with and the doctor talked her
into it. She said she will not get it again that's for sure. She said
she thought she was gonna die. And as if she had a stroke. She is fine

a friend of mine today shared that her daughters friend ( a teenager)
had taken the vax, and that same day she was bathing and became
instantly ill? she felt light headed to the point of passing out,
couldn't communicate, managed to get her house coat on, head
spinning and got down stairs opened the front door so she could yell
out for help because she didn't know what was happening to her. she
passed out at the door.
I had my vaccine last friday around 2:00pm and around 10:00 that
night, I started breaking out in hives. Have never had hives before
this. All the hives started joining together, crazy itchy!!!! I was
like I had a sunburn over my whole body. Started to swell in the arm,
hands, legs, feet, chin, and lip. My feet is still swollen, but not
itchy now. Thank God!!!

source close to the family that Evan may also have been vaccinated
recently for Tetanus.

a team of experts who claim that injecting an expectant mother with a
flu shot would reduce the hospitalization of her infants, explaining:
"Flu vaccine given to women during pregnancy is 85 percent effective
in preventing hospitalization in their infants under 6 months of
age."This conclusion was derived from a study of pregnant women in
Bangladesh, by the way, and it didn't even use randomized,
placebo-controlled study protocols, meaning the conclusions of the

opportunity to misrepresent science in order to fabricate statistical

according to an Associated Press report. The claim that the group is
"independent" is a complete misnomer. How can a group appointed by
and dictated its brief by the government be considered

than Dr. Marie McCormick of the Harvard School of Public Health.
McCormick and her affiliated organizations have routinely issued
reports over the past 10 years supporting the government's position

McCormick has been widely criticized by other health experts for her

Health Canada Warns Canadians To Stay Away From Natural Medicine To
Fight H1N1

As flu activity picks up across Canada, federal authorities are
warning Canadians not to buy natural remedies and to strictly confide
in the anti-viral drugs and vaccines authorized by Health Canada.
The Competition Bureau and Health Canada issued the statement on November 4th, saying that only three products
are authorized for use against the virus: the vaccine from
GlaxoSmithKline called Arepanrix, and the antiviral drugs Tamiflu and
Relenza.
Health Canada says it will monitor the internet and take action
against websites selling unauthorized products for the treatment or
prevention of the H1N1 flu virus or any other health condition.
Canadians are slowly realizing the corrupt associations between Health
Canada and big pharma. "The statement issued last week is a prime
example of how Health Canada is forcefully shoving dangerous drugs
like Tamiflu down the throats of Canadians," said health freedom
activist, John Barnett.
Numerous reports and studies have already linked Tamiflu to dozens of
deaths worldwide in apparently very health children. The WHO stated on
their own website that Tamiflu (also called oseltamivir) and another
antiviral Relenza (also called zanamivir) should not be given to
healthy people.
The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
alerted Physicians that Tamiflu can put some people at greater risk of
suffering a stroke, a condition that is often fatal or far worse
prognosis than any flu symptom.
Tamiflu and Relenza also lower body temperatures, and therefore can
also be expected to contribute to the spread of the pandemic.
Despite all the documented side effects of antivirals such as Tamiflu,
federal officials still stand by them. "Health Canada and their
entourage of drug and vaccine pushing criminals simply ignore all the
warnings about these drugs and vaccines so they can continue their
political agenda." Barnett emphasized that it is highly irresponsibe
for any government to promote drugs while suppressing natural
solutions which he asserted are far more effective and less
invasive.
Naturopathic Doctor and vaccine researcher, Dave Mihalovic says
that Canadian health officials have a very specific and destructive
set of goals for the health of every Canadian. " Codex Alimentarius
and Bill C-6 are a good sign of what health officials have in store
for the people of Canada." Mihalovic equates Health Canada officials
to snake oil salesman "who have absolutely no interest or motive in
protecting people's health since they only serve their big pharma
masters."
Mihalovic elaborated on the actions of health officials by stating:
"Telling people that their government will take actions against
natural supplement companies is equivalent to telling people you are
effectively making their health decisions for them?.it's taking
away their right and freedom of choice by disempowering them."
Public health expert, Dr. Horowitz explains that risk free,
low-to-no-cost, readily available, highly effective, natural cures for
infectious diseases, including the most advanced silver hydrosols, are
criminally neglected by vaccine advocates and health care reformers.
These would be stockpiled by governments, and proclaimed valuable to
people, if officials were operating responsibly.
"You know something is seriously wrong when Health Canada is telling
people to stay away from natural medicine, including the most basic
remedies like vitamin C, vitamin D, garlic, and zinc and demanding
toxic vaccines as their replacement?it is just insanity,"
concluded Mihalovic.
The Public Health Agency reported the number of deaths they consider
to be associated with H1N1 in Canada at 115 as of late last week.
Dr. Schabas, a chief medical officer of health for Hastings and Prince
Edward Counties in eastern Ontario, had adamantly insisted the H1N1
outbreak is not a major public health event.
Schabas told the media last week that once the "dust has settled on
H1N1? between 200 and 300 people will have died in Canada - far
fewer than those who die from seasonal flu every year.

Italian family physicians refuse to prescribe the A/H1N1 vaccine for
their patients, claiming that the risks of the vaccine outweigh its
benefits. Italian media outlets claimed that many of the 48 million
doses of the A/H1N1 vaccine ordered would be useless as the majority
of Italians including the Deputy Health Minister Ferruccio Fazio and
the Mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno have decided against vaccination. A
member of the European Association for Quality in General
Medicine(EQUIP), Gianluigi Passerini told L'espresso that he would
not advise vaccination for his patients, adding, "This virus is not
aggressive and there is no reason to force individuals to get
immunized against the virus."
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the prime minister, publicly chided the minister
over his repeated calls on Turks to get immunized, alleging that some
experts had cast doubt on the safety of the substance. Then, to drive
home his point, he told reporters he would not be getting the shot
himself.

If you want to draw attention to a problem, try hiding it. That's
the strategy of several military bases when it comes to the H1N1
vaccine.
Shortly after the Pentagon announced that all Armed Services
personnel would soon be facing a mandatory H1N1vaccination program, I started receiving email from soldiers, airmen, marines and sailors because of a previous
story I had written on the anthrax vaccine. Mandatory vaccine
programs are a sensitive subject in the military, so it's not a huge
surprise that swift and visceral reactions to the program gained
speed.
With a vaccine that was so new and little known about it, like
many Americans, troops were heading to the web to find answers to
their very legitimate questions -- not only for themselves, but for
their families who have the option of receiving the vaccine on base.
What they found instead is that several websites and blogs with key
information asking critical questions had been blocked from their
viewing.
Dr. Meryl Nass. NVIC is a
national, non-profit founded in 1980s that, through public education,
advocates "vaccine safety and informed consent protections in the
mass vaccination system." Matsumoto's site contains a forum in
which thousands upon thousands of service members have posted
testimonies regarding their experiences with the anthrax vaccine. And
Nass is one of the world's foremost experts on vaccines who has
testified in front of Congressional committees -- and, I might add,
never has had a malpractice suit brought against her.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), and the Department of Health and Human Services
(HHS) sites, however, are all available for military personnel. The
official word from governmental agencies is welcome but critics,
regardless of whether they were considered experts, are not.
According to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for
Public Affairs, the only blocking of websites Pentagon-wide was in
2007, when a number of heavy-trafficked sites that "used lots of
bandwidth" had to be denied to reduce the wear on networks
"to ensure they continued to be available for mission
requirements."
That turns out not to be entirely accurate.
Some of you may recall the reporting earlier this year when
wired.com's Danger Room blog reported that the
When TroopTube launched last November, for instance, it
was billed as an answer to the bandwidth and security concerns
surrounding other video sites. TroopTube "crunches video files
into several sizes and automatically plays the one that best suits
viewers' Internet connection speeds," the Associated Press
reported at the time. And "a Pentagon employee screens each
[upload] for taste, copyright violations and national security
issues."
Nonetheless, the public affairs office at the Pentagon further
instructed me that "anything that may be blocked at the Service
or base level should be addressed there -- it's a local
issue."
Since I had the most information (and the most complaints) about
Wright-Patterson Air Force in Ohio, that's where I directed my
questions. After repeated email and phones calls, nearly two weeks
later a spokesperson for Wright-Patterson told me that:
The Air Force general policy is all websites are placed
into categories based upon their content and intended audience. All
unethical categories are blocked as are any sites that are
uncategorized. Currently the sites referenced are blocked because they
are uncategorized.
A wholly unsatisfactory answer that side-stepped the question, I
took this statement to mean that blocking these websites had nothing
to do with bandwidth use as in the Pentagon statement and everything
to do with the content.
I asked the follow-up question: Since this is a recent decision
to block them, why would they not just be categorized rather than
being uncategorized? As a result, they would not be blocked for
educational purposes of service personnel who have a mandatory H1N1
vaccination program?
Wright-Patterson did not respond to this question.
Making sure that servicemen and servicewomen consent to the
vaccine and are informed is apparently not a concern for the
Department of Defense. But the message is very clear for one service
member who contacted me: "All you need to know is what we're
telling you, so shut up and take the vaccine with no questions
asked."
Nass, one of the experts whose site has been blocked, points out
the real shame in all of this: "It's unfortunate that the service
members who are defending our civil rights are not afforded the same
consideration."

IT IS JUST AS BAD IF NOT WORST IN THE QUEBEC MEDIA, ESPECIALLY RADIO-CANADA WHICH IS TOTALLY RAMPING UP THE FEARS ABOUT THIS.

Wendy Mesley hosts a panel discussion about how the media has covered
the swine flu story. Has it informed, or alarmed, the public? Dr.
Allison McGeer and Dr. Richard Schabas join in the
discussion.
OUR PANELISTS
Dr. Allison McGeer is a Microbiologist and Infectious Disease
Consultant with the Department of Microbiology at Mount Sinai Hospital
in Toronto.
Dr. Richard Schabas is Medical Officer of Health for the Hastings and
Prince Edward Counties Health Unit, Consultant Internist at
Campbellford Memorial Hospital. and the former Ontario Chief Medical
Officer of Health from 1987-1997.
To commentator "tmtmtm": I think you represent the view of
many people in society who are comforted by the belief that
institutions and businesses, like media outlets, exist to serve your
best interest. Specifically for example you say to help you "make
essential decisions". They are not a public service. That is not
their reason for being (though they don't mind leaving you with that
impression.)
You need only gain an understanding of why a news organization exists.
It's a business that has owners. They sell news. If they can make
their product more interesting to you, or even necessary for your
health or safety, they capture more viewers and make more money. That
is why media outlets are willing to inflate the story and not cover it
in a more critical and balanced fashion. Shamefully, they claim to
just pass on the facts, but they are not passing on any opposing
opinions. By using "hype", drama, or fear (as was used under
the Bush admin. in the US), you get people's attention. What's more,
people then further rely on media products to help them deal with the
situation that media itself is blowing out of proportion. Media
definitely stands to personally gain by distorting the story.
You also need only do some background research into the previous
outbreak in 1976: 1 died of the virus, 25 died from the vaccine, and
4000 people were adversely affected by the vaccine. ...They haven't
covered that to any professional, journalistic depth.

The media are like Politicians, if their lips are moving they can't be
telling the truth. I loved your piece on examining the media (not just
CBC). I thought Wendy Mesley became defensive during her discussion
with her guests. The media is a very strong tool, probably more
powerful than the Prime Ministers office as they always have the last
word (As Wendy MESLEY put it). The medias converage of stories is
almost always overblown, it has to be in order to get good ratings.
Peter MANSBRIDGE said it himself several weeks ago when in discussion
with the At Issue Panel. They were talking about PM HARPER and his
playing and singing the piano when Allan GREGG stated that we should
not make more of this story than there really is to it. Mr.
MANSBRIDGES reply was something to the effect "but its more fun
to make more of it". That comment pretty well sums up the
mentallity of journalists, they always have to make more of every
story to get headlines and the media has certainly done that in the
case of the H1N1 story. I would describe a news story as 20%fact, 20%
fiction and 60% journalistic opinion.

What more can we expect when television news is managed as
entertainment rather than as a means to truly inform the public? News
has become a series of "stories", the producers of which are
self-congratulatory and seem more interested in accolades than serious
human issues. Those involved with presenting the news appear to be so
wrapped up in their profession that they cannot understand their
shortcomings nor do they seem to want to . Witness Wendy Mesley on
tonight's panel "discussion" of coverage of the H1N1 issue.
It was very clear she did not want to hear or deal with what Doctor
Schabas had to say. Ms. Mesley did not seem to understand that no news
media reports just the facts. There is spin. Observe how an unnessary
and inaccurate adjective like "deadly", used in reference to
H1N1 can convey a sense that this virus is much more harmful than it
has so far proven to be. When the goal of news reporting becomes a
search for the biggest story, what more can we expect?

Why are we only now hearing micro bytes from sane people like Dr.

Wendy - you deserve all the criticisms I have read this evening on
this topic and more. If your ditzy hype on the news can not handle a
more intelligent perspective and responsible consideration of serious
topics - you should not be manning the Main Desk. I hope your

I have been following H1N1 intently. Because of chronic health
problems - I was compelled to explore increasing numbers of Holistic
Solutions, which I find help more than Pharmaceuticals - without side
effects. After 25+ years, I find Pharmaceuticals unnecessary for the
past 10 + years. I am justly skeptical of Pharmaceutic based
mis-information and fear campaigns. I am grateful for Pharmaceuticals
in the small number of family incidents requiring Emergency Care. I
have found the more I support my health and immunity naturally - the
better I weather anything - including my recent bout with H1N1. Hmmm .

I was honestly shocked by how Wendy Mesley treated Dr. Schabas
during this so-called debate. I thought his position was balanced and
didn't focus overly on the media responsibility for H1N1 hysteria. If
the media is actually not going to listen to honest criticism, why
bother having this discussion? Rather than reassuring the public about
the intentions of the media, Mesley did the exact opposite. If that
was her goal she did a terrific job.

Once again the media feign surprise when charged with spreading
hype.
Who us? We just report the facts, is the usual mantra.
It is clear that the personalization of any story adds human interest
and helps sell their product. The problem is that the truth is often a
casualty of this.( It creates the paranoid "that could be me"
irrational perspective.)The media don't seem to acknowledge that by
selecting some stories for attention and omitting others they can
actually distort the truth.
It is no surprise to me that media coverage of some H1N1 deaths would
create a sense of panic among many people.Why don't the media see

the purpose of the interview was to seek the opinion of the two
doctors. It was very apparent that Ms. Mesley could not accept an
opinion that did not confirm to hers or that imparted any blame for

The CBC report of the H1N1 in my opinion has caused panic among
citizens.Someone asked who profits from this hysteria. Could it be the
manufacturers of the influenza shots? In other years or this year, for
a matter of fact, you hear very little about the seasonal influenza
from the media and as the doctor said many more people die yearly. It
would have been nice if the doctors were allowed to say a little more.
For the doctor to be interrupted when he was speaking was very
unprofessional. I got the definite feeling the media didn't want to
hear anything negative about their reporting on the H1N1. I am one of
many who aren't getting the H1N1 flu shot. I definitely don't believe
that pregnant women should have the H1N1 flu shot. They don't know how
it will affect the fetus.

The real story on swine flu is a lesson in media misinformation and
hype. Kudos to these professionals for their direct castigation of
CBC's, and the larger media's, failure to deliver useful, objective
and critical news. The take-away gem for all of us Canadians is to
realize that the media is fundamentally an untrustworthy source of
information on even slightly complex issues.Let us turn our gaze
towards other complicated issues so key for Canada (climate change

The media should state the facts, not hype a death. Yes, it is tragic
a young boy died of H1N1, but put it in perspective; thousands of
people die of the flu every year, children included. The hype by the
media resulted in massive line-ups and people getting the vacinne

Dr Schabas echoed our feelings precisely. Considering the evidence
from around the world that while still dangerous, H1N1 poses a far
lesser risk than officials were determined to have us believe. Despite
this, the media became, themselves, just as determined to "sell"

I am so sick of hearing about N1H1, to the point that we no longer watch the news. It is the flu, nasty yes, but death hovering, no!!!! As a daughter of a doctor (with a mother as an X-ray tech and step-mother as a nurse) I have grown up hearing the details of disease. The hysteria of what is being put out in the news is horrible. You are scaring parents into making quick decisions about putting a shots into their children's arms. Even though I have the family that I do, from a medical stand point, I will not be getting the shot. I truly believe in the immune system and the role it has played in our bodies for more years then most of us can imagine. The question I have is why, why, why. There are so many diseases that deserve so much more attention than the flu, even a bad one. I understand that you need 'shock factor', viewer ratings etc, etc, etc but please tone it down.

I generally agree with Dr. Schabas -- the coverage has been more hype than helpful. My mother is in a state of near panic due to the coverage and no doubt she's not alone. What has happened to journalistic integrity and thorough research before running a story? I am disgusted at the fear mongering CBC has induced over H1N1. I am a public health nurse and I don't believe anyone can truly understand how stressful the media has made our jobs over the last month. We have been working in absolute overdrive to calm our community and meet their needs the best and fastest we can. Babies, children, teens, adults and seniors die each day from various diseases, illnesses and injuries, why not include those stats on the news? Surely they would account for much more! I am tired (from working overtime all week, again!) and wish that the media would work with us, rather than against us. I completely agree with Carolll. This has gone too far. People are becoming hysterical. CBC, you aren't helping at all. Instead of being a flagship, respectable news station, you handled H1N1 like a high school newspaper reporter. Where are your ethics? You could've reported the story but also spent time reminding viewers that there is no need to panic. That would be ethical and a little less biased. I'm a health care worker and I'm now being called on by my employer to spend extra hours on weekends to help calm the public who are in flu assessment centres. I've heard people waiting in line being interviewed on the local CBC radio station. They are panicking on the air. They are not high risk. They do not need to be there. CBC, you are contributing to the contagion of panic in this country. Act responsibly. I've stopped watching and reading your coverage and most of my colleagues have as well. You aren't helping us manage this situation, and if you were the nurse giving the shots, or the social worker trying to calm people you'd think twice about how you spin things. And you do spin things.

As a mother of three young boys - 6, 8 and 10 - I have been carefully watching the news regarding H1N1 and what I should be doing to keep them safe and healthy. Dr. Richard Schabas needs to be interviewed more often - maybe he should be in charge. The health officials who are presently in charge will soon be in the position of calling wolf one too many times and we really will have large scale deaths because no one listens to them.

habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in
democratic society. Those who manipulate the unseen mechanism of

logical result of the way in which our democratic society is
organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate if they are to
live together as a smoothly functioning society. In almost every act
of our lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our
social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the
relatively small number of persons who understand the mental processes
and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires that
control the public mind."

Every organisation that interacts with other agencies may be said to
engage in public relations. Organisations by and large wish to project
as good an image as they can, and often wish to communicate a
particular message. This applies as much to a small cooperative like
Corporate Watch as it does to a large multinational like Dow Chemical.
It is, by a broad definition, an ubiquitous and inescapable
practice.
There is nothing essentially wrong in wanting to present one's own
case in as effective manner as possible. However, in spite of frequent
protestations to the contrary from the PR world, this is only a part
of what modern PR does. There is a considerable body of evidence
emerging to suggest that modern public relations practices are having
a very significant deleterious impact on the democratic process. As
this report will demonstrate PRs have often engaged in deliberate
deception on their clients' behalf and have developed a deeply
unhealthy relationship with the 'free press'. Furthermore, by giving
vested interests the opportunity to deliberately obfuscate, deceive,
and derail public debate on key issues the public relations industry
reduces society's capacity to respond effectively to key social,
environmental and political challenges.

1.1 What is Public Relations?
Public relations is the practice of getting attention and shaping
public opinion. Its tools include publicity, advertising, public
affairs forums, lobbying public officials, and any and every other
means that gets a message out to the public. Mostly however it is
about placing stories in the media, getting newspapers, radio and
television to accept stories or messages sourced from PR agencies.
This gives the illusion that the client's message is simply the
product of impartial journalism rather than advertising with which the
consumer is more familiar and resistant. Sir Tim Bell, of Bell
Pottinger, comments, "A strong story placed in the newspaper,
picked up by everybody else, will actually have more impact than an
advertising campaign."[3]
Public relations uses many of the tools of marketing and may be used
to promote a particular product but often it is employed in pursuit of
a slightly different goal. Marketing (including advertising and
promotion) is about selling products and services whereas PR is often
concerned with selling persons, government policies, corporations, and
other institutions. In addition to marketing products, PR has been
variously used to attract investments, influence legislation, raise
companies' public profiles, put a positive spin on disasters,
undermine citizens' campaigns, gain public support for conducting
warfare, and to change the public perception of repressive
regimes.
In a modern democracy the mechanisms of propaganda and control must
necessarily be far more subtle than those employed by more repressive
regimes and PR or 'spin-doctoring' has become ubiquitous in the
western political economy.
By necessity the industry keeps a very low profile, however. Although
the public consumes a huge amount of their work, companies such as
Burson-Marsteller or Bell Pottinger are far from household names.
Michie quotes a top British spin doctor as saying "'PR is very
much an invisible art and it doesn't serve our purposes to reveal how
much we manipulate journalists and the public'"[4]

Despite the reported pandemic, cases of H1N1 have been very rare
at Central Washington Hospital in the last month. According to http://www.wenatcheeworld.com/ From early October through Nov. 2, there has been 35 patients with
flu-like symptoms that have been admitted to the hospital. Plenty of
flu-like symptoms, but no Swine Flu. Tracey Kasnic, vice president of
patient services at Central Washington Hospital: "We're seeing an
overwhelming number of patients who have tested negative for the H1N1
flu virus, which does not explain why these people are so sick.
Folks under 60 don't get overwhelming pneumonia. It's really
rare." Pune's Sassoon Hospital in India is reporting that one third
of patients who died of suspected H1N1 are testing negative for the
virus. In Ukraine there are reports of people very sick with
blood filled lungs. This is not the mild swine flu we've all rolled up
our sleeves for inoculation against.

WHEELING - It took the strength of two sheriff's deputies to keep
a middle schooler still enough to receive a shot of the swine flu, or
H1N1, vaccine at a recent clinic.During a regular Wheeling-Ohio County
Health Board meeting Tuesday, health department Administrator Howard
Gamble told board members about the student's attempt to flee Wheeling
Middle School during a vaccination clinic held there last Friday.He
noted the boy's mother could not bear to watch the scene and left the
gymnasium. Out of apparent fear of receiving the injection, the
student ran out of the building. The school's resource officer, Ohio
County Sheriff's Deputy John Haglock, coaxed the boy back inside. Once
at the shot station, however, Haglock apparently needed some help
keeping the boy still, and another deputy assisted."He tried to
run. I looked over and saw two sheriff's deputies holding a kid down,"
Gamble said. "Mom took off, she couldn't take it. You had one
nurse with the needle, two deputies holding him, one nurse is grabbing
hands - because that's what they want to do, to go after the needle.

Media in Sweden is having a tough time maintaining the propaganda
as more and more people question the reasons for the mass vaccination.
Now, authorities say that if not "80% of the population takes the
shot, we risk 100 deaths from the swine flu". Most Swedes know
that a normal flu season see several thousand dead from complications
from the seasonal flu so the proportions of the propaganda coming from
media and the government has caused a growing revolt against the
massive attempts to scare people to take the poisonous injection.We
have earlier reported on the first death, the second death (also
here), the third death and the fourth death in Sweden from the
poisonous Pandemrix vaccin shot.Today, Svenska Dagbladet reports that
over 350 cases of side effects from the Pandemrix "swine flu"
shot, has been recorded so far. It has also become clear that this
shot contains the most deadly mix of substances of all the known
vaccines manufactured against the so called "swine flu" H1N1
influenza. The official number of deaths from the "swine flu"
vaccine is now five. And that is only those who have strong immediate
reactons, the long term effects are usually never even investigated.
If you would die from the shot two weeks after you took it, your death
would not be considered to have anything to do with the vaccination.
Severe health problems years after will of course be very hard to link
to the poisonous injection. Even if these five official cases died
within days, the official story is of course as expected: "none
of these deaths has been confirmed to be linked to the vaccine".

The Swedish government's medical products agency has said that it
has received reports of 8 people dying in connection with
GlaxoSmithKline's Pandemrix swine flu jab from doctors and patients so
far.There is no requirement to report deaths and side effects from the
swine flu jab in Sweden even though it has not been tested. A GSK

The number of people in Germany who do not intend to take the
swine flu jab under any circumstances has increased from 39% in the
middle of October to 43% in November, according to a poll just
published by Infratest dimap and carried out on behalf of ARD. Only
14% said that they were highly likely to get the swine flu jab while
11% said they would definitely get the jab. The poll indicates that
the swine flu hysteria currently sweeping the German media has failed
to impress: only a quarter of the people polled said they thought the
jab was necessary. Most Germans appear to agree with the assessment of
Wolf-Dieter Ludwig, head doctor of the Helios-Klinikum Berlin-Buch and
chairman of the medical products commission of the German doctors'
association, who said that the swine flu pandemic is a "piece of
theatre with which pharmaceutical companies just want to earn money."

Nigerian intelligence officials about the presence of these US
operated Ukrainian aircraft amidst growing concern that the United
States was spreading 'biological agents' in the Earth's atmosphere,

died. "The main challenge is that doctors are facing a new
virus. General panic only worsens the situation," stated Vasily

In this morning's press conference the WHO discussed the need for
prompt treatment with Tamiflu, but did not address genetic changes in Ukraine. Only general statements on the
stability of the H1N1 were made in response to questions on genetic
changes in Ukraine. Today's conference is a week after the last
comments on the Ukraine H1N1 sequences which indicated that there were
no large changes, but an update would be forthcoming in a "few
days". It has now been over a week and no updates on genetic changes have been forthcoming. The release

its scientific advisors. Haas coordinates Germany's flu pandemic
preparedness measures at the Robert-Koch-Institut (RKI), the federal
institute for disease research. ESWI portrays itself as an independent
group of scientists. But even the organization's own statute tells a
different story, describing its role as advising politicians and
health authorities on "the benefits and safety of influenza
vaccines and antivirals" and initiating "a policy for

With wild rumors circulating across the internet on the nature of
the flu strain raging in the Ukraine, a team of British scientists
having begun testing the 'super flu' that has been responsible for 189

not yet have enough samples to determine the nature or strain of the

WHO has just released its "Whole of Society Pandemic readiness
guidelines" first prepared in April 2009, the same month the
swine flu virus mysteriously appeared in Mexico City, and revised in
July 2009. The plan outlines how WHO will take over a country's
essential services, including water and sanitation; fuel and energy;
food; health care; telecommunications; finance; law and order;
education; and transportation under the pretext of a pandemic

accusations of favoritism because it was offering one vaccine believed
to have fewer side effects to civil servants, politicians and

The German government prepared for its mass-vaccination campaign
earlier this year by ordering 50 million doses of the Pandemrix
vaccine. The vaccine, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, contains an
immunity-enhancing chemical compound, known as an adjuvant, whose side
effects are not yet entirely known. The Interior Ministry confirmed
that it had ordered a different vaccine, Celvapan, for government
officials and the military. Celvapan, which is made by U.S.

This is such a tragic and sad story. On Tuesday one of our docs
had his 16 year old daughter get a flu shot. She started not feeling
well following the shot and by Friday night went to bed early because
she still didn't feel right. When her dad went to wake her up Saturday
morning she was dead.I can't even begin to share how horrible this is
for the family and community. If I had any doubts before, I certainly
do not now with respect to how deadly dangerous this flu shot it.

experience problems with her memory which continued to get worse. By
Friday she had a headache whereupon she took some pain medication and

investigating five cases of reported Guillain-Barre Syndrome after

Kennedy wrote an article for Rolling Stone back in 2005 in which
he laid out the details of the cover-up of the Simpson Wood
Conference, a CDC sponsored meeting which was held in private, though
it was tax-payer funded. The damage control machinery went into full
swing to try to discredit the article and Kennedy. However, the facts
were hard to dispute, especially after a FOIA act revealed the
transcript of the meeting in which members were shocked to discover a
link between Thimerosal and neurological disorders, including autism.
The CDC then funded a study to cover up the link and sold off the
VAERS data to private industry in order to conceal the evidence.
Vaccines biggest proponent, Dr. Paul Offit, who was also a CDC
adviser, took home a fortune of at least $29 million as part of a $182
million sale by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia royalty
interest to Merck for his development of the Rotateq vaccine. As Dr.
Wakefield, who found a connection between the MMR vaccination and
autism, has said: "I was accused of going beyond the science when
I suggested that parents should have single jabs until the MMR had
been properly assessed for risk. "I had assessed the data and the
safety study relied upon by the Department of Health and it was
derisory. It was no way as good as the research into the single jabs.
"Bernadine Healy, the former head of the US National Institute
for Health, admitted they had altered evidence on the epidemiological
studies conducted by the US Government to suit the official line. She
admitted the evidence both the US and UK relies on is useless.
"The UK Government has a big dirty secret that it doesn't want
the public to know. . . . they agreed to under write any compensation
claims for the MMR. This is why they can't and won't let their
position fail. "It was inevitable I was going to be dragged
in front of the GMC because I dared to question big business. They
always come after those who don't toe their line." Healy went on
to say that, in the words of the CBS reporter "There is a
completely expressed concern that they don't want to pursue a
hypothesis because that hypothesis could be damaging to the public
health community at large by scaring people." This explains why
every industry and government funded research into the vaccine-autism
link is fatally flawed, because they refuse to compare a completely

went everywhere into my mouth and up my nose," Chen said in a
previous interview. "I vomited salt and blood for the following
days and could not eat. My gums were full of blood, I could hardly

Obama administration. Since taking office, President Obama and

criticism of China's rights record while they were candidates-have
said that human rights shouldn't "interfere" with other
issues in the U.S.-China relationship, knuckled preemptively under
Chinese pressure not to meet the Dalai Lama, and generally behaved as
if the United States has no power in the bilateral relationship.The
Obama team seems to think that such an approach will elicit greater
cooperation from China. This is a miscalculation that demoralizes
China's small but vibrant human-rights community and gives the

The U.S. must put pressure on Beijing to end its brutal
persecution of Falun Gong adherents. -- China's leaders meant for the
celebrations on Oct. 1 to remind the world of their country's growing
power and importance. But the 60th anniversary of the communist
revolution, which Nina Hachigian wrote about in her Sept. 30 Times
Op-Ed article, should also remind us of something else: The Chinese
Communist Party is still very much an authoritarian regime whose
nature remains quite the same as when Mao Tse-tung brutalized the
nation. I should know. About four months ago, my mother, Yao-Hua Li,
and sister, Yi-Bo Zhang, were abducted by Chinese police officers
simply because of their spiritual beliefs. Just as millions of Chinese
citizens did in the 1990s, my family embraced the Buddhist spiritual
discipline of Falun Gong. The practice combines meditation and a moral
philosophy based on the principles of truth, compassion and tolerance.
It enabled my mother to find relief from severe back pains and gave us
all a more positive outlook on life.The Chinese Communist Party,
however, viewed the growing spiritual movement as a threat and banned
the Falun Gong faith in 1999. Since then, international observers have
reported that more than 100,000 Falun Gong adherents have been sent to
forced-labor camps, and thousands have been tortured (many to death)
because they refused to recant their beliefs.Though I had feared that
my family members in China could be victimized under this persecution,
I had assumed they were safe. After all, my mother has Hong Kong
residency, and my sister was a successful financial manager with a
well-known international corporation. I thought this would give them
some level of protection.I was wrong.On June 4, exactly 20 years to
the day after the massacre at Tiananmen Square, my mother and sister
were taken from their home in Shanghai and sent to jail for no other
reason than the fact that they practice the Falun Gong faith. They
still haven't been charged with a crime or brought to trial (even if
they do get a trial, it would be a farce). I searched high and low in
Shanghai, a city of more than 20 million people, and I could not find
one lawyer with the courage to take their case. Their fate will be
determined by the local 610 Office, a Gestapo-like organization
charged with persecuting Falun Gong adherents. My family is not alone

country report on human rights, Falun Gong adherents are estimated to

between 1.3 and 1.5 million 400 oz tungsten blanks were allegedly
manufactured by a very high-end, sophisticated refiner in the USA
[more than 16 Thousand metric tonnes]. Subsequently, 640,000 of
these tungsten blanks received their gold plating and WERE shipped to
Ft. Knox and remain there to this day. I know folks who have
copies of the original shipping docs with dates and exact weights of
"tungsten" bars shipped to Ft.
Knox. The balance of this 1.3 million - 1.5
million 400 oz tungsten cache was also plated and then allegedly
"sold" into the international market. Apparently, the global
market is literally "stuffed full of 400 oz salted bars".

Every time you open a can of tuna, an albatross dies. Okay,
that's not exactly true, but albatrosses and other seabirds are
increasingly endangered by commercial tuna fishing, according to a new
report from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and
BirdLife International. The problem has gotten so bad that albatrosses
are killed on fishing lines at a rate of one every five minutes,
according to scientists representing the U.K.-based organizations. The
report has been released to coincide with a meeting of the
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas
(ICCAT), headquartered in Madrid, which takes place in Brazil this
week to discuss fishing quotas for Mediterranean tuna and swordfish.
According to RSPB and BirdLife, 37 bird species are highly at risk
from commercial ocean fishing. Sixteen of those species are already
officially endangered, and six of the most at-risk species are
albatrosses. The birds get tangled in longline hooks, which are baited
with squid and other tasty morsels. The two organizations state that
"for many species, this is their greatest extinction
threat."Albatross expert Cleo Small is attending the ICCAT
meeting on behalf of RSPB and BirdLife. "The populations of
albatrosses are declining faster in the South Atlantic than any other
ocean," she said in a prepared statement. "This situation is
needless, because the technology exists to prevent these
deaths."One of these "technologies" is remarkably
simple: the tori, or streamer, line. Basically, fishing crews run
lines of ribbons from the stern of a vessel, which create a curtain
above fishing lines to deter albatrosses from coming into the
so-called "danger zone." Other solutions include using
heavier weights, dyeing bait blue so birds can't see it in the water,
or setting lines at night, when birds are less likely to be awake.

Organization on a decade-long investigation called Interphone will
show a "significantly increased risk" of some brain
tumors "related to use of mobile phones for a period of 10 years
or more," the London Daily Telegraph reported in late
October. The study will be published before the end of the year, the
newspaper said. Supporting that conclusion, a recent study in the
Journal of Clinical Oncology that looked at 23 case-control studies
found that the research with the more scientifically rigorous
methodologies suggested cell phones and tumors are linked. The eight
strongest studies made sure the investigators did not know which
participants had tumors when they conducted the interviews about cell
phone use, and they did not receive funding from industry
groups. Studies that looked at people who had used cell phones 10
years or longer tended to find the strongest risk of tumors.
Researchers found that cell phone users had a 10 percent to 30 percent
higher risk than people who barely, if ever, used this technology. A
telling feature of the findings in the stronger studies was that the
side of the head against which people held their cell phones was
highly correlated with the location of tumors, said Joel Moskowitz,
director of the Center for Family and Community Health at the
University of California, Berkeley.

We are the Pleiadian Light. We greet you with peace in our hearts. We
wish to alert you to a probable change in your world consciousness
that is gathering increasing energy to support it. We are referring to
an event that would validate the reality of extraterrestrials and
their interactions with Earth through out your planetary
history.
Since the mid-20th Century and especially in the past twenty years we
have come close several times to creating an open contact situation
with Earth humans. The probable situations always turned out to be off
balance in some way and the events shifted to parallel realities
outside the current path on which Earth is progressing.
This time the plan entails an acknowledgement from a unified group of
your world leaders that there is evidence of ET interactions with
Earth. They will admit that this evidence has been withheld from the
public out of concern for negative or fearful reactions. If this
revelation is handled well by the people, more information will slowly
be released as to the many interactions that have taken place and are
well documented.
Then, with equal care, the presentation of the beneficial technologies
that have been gifted by ETs will be revealed. The intention, at this
point, is to keep everything low-key. The power groups on your world
are terrified of the response from the general population. They fear
chaos and loss of control.
It is our hope that this plan will pave the way for the introduction
of some ET envoys. Your leaders would present them through your mass
media. The first ETs to be introduced would be those who are in like
form and appearance to your Earth human bodies.
These plans are contingent upon some changes that are and will be
happening with regard to diminishing the powers of negative energies.
The intent of the dark forces has been to prevent open contact by
fear, ridicule, or any other means possible. They are threatened by
the revelation of benign extraterrestrials and the potential benefits

The fluctuations of energies are intense in this period of change. It
is like a series of storms that rise without any clear pattern. They

awareness of the caring, extended family that Earth humans have. This
family is reaching out to make open contact with your world. We
aren't asking for marches, rallies, telethons, or charity balls to
support this endeavor, but rather another type of low-key, gentle
increase in positive associations about ETs. Even if all you do, as
thinking members of the mass consciousness, is to entertain your own
visions of the benefits of open contact. Your thoughts WILL influence
your unified consciousness.
In addition, this type of thought-work will counter some of the
effects of the endless media scenarios of terrifying ETs intent on
destroying life on Earth. As we said, this is a propitious time for a
probable event that would initiate the first steps to bring your world
into open awareness of its place in the galactic family.
Our feeling is that this probable event has a very high level of
energy supporting it. The power of darkness on Earth IS waning, even
though it appears on the surface to still be a roaring, bloodthirsty
beast. We will repeat: The dark energies ARE waning in power.
Therefore we are asking for your conscious use of your powers of
manifestation in support of the impending probable event. And this
time we hope to break through the barriers and allow the truth of ETs
to emerge on to your living plane. This event would initiate such a
huge change in your world consciousness that nothing would ever be the

We all want to fix the world, whether we realize it or not.
On a conscious level, many of us feel inspired to save the planet for
altruistic or ethical reasons. On an unconscious level, our efforts to
serve as Earth stewards are driven by a deeper, more fundamental
behavioral programming known as the biological imperative - the drive
to survive. We inherently sense that if the planet goes down, so do
we.
Combine the enormity of the mission with how small and helpless we
imagine we are, and our good intentions soon fly out the window.
Consciously or unconsciously, most of us accept our own powerlessness
and frailty in a seemingly out-of-control world.
Advances in biology and physics offer an amazing alternative - one
that suggests our sense of disempowerment is the result of learned
limitations. Therefore, when we inquire, "What do we truly know
about ourselves?" we are really asking, "What have we
learned about ourselves?"
Are we as frail as we have learned? In terms of our human evolution,
civilization's current "official" truth provider is
materialistic science. And according to the popular medical model, the
human body is a biochemical machine controlled by genes, whereas the
human mind is an elusive epiphenomenon, that is, a secondary,
incidental condition derived from the mechanical functioning of the
brain. That's a fancy way of saying that the physical body is real and
the mind is a figment of the brain's imagination.
Until recently, conventional medicine dismissed the role of the mind
in the functioning of the body, except for one pesky exception - the
placebo effect, which demonstrates that the mind has the power to heal
the body when people hold a belief that a particular drug or procedure
will effect a cure, even if the remedy is actually a sugar pill with
no known pharmaceutical value. Medical students learn that one third
of all illnesses heal via the magic of the placebo effect.
We are further disempowered by our tacit acceptance of a major premise
of Darwinian theory: the notion that evolution is driven by an eternal
struggle for survival. Programmed with this perception, humanity finds
itself locked in an ongoing battle to stay alive in a dog-eat-dog
world. Tennyson poetically described the reality of this bloody
Darwinian nightmare as being a world "red in tooth and
claw."
Awash in a sea of stress hormones derived from our fear-activated
adrenal glands, our internal cellular community is unconsciously
driven to continuously employ fight-or-flight behavior in order to
survive in a hostile environment. By day, we fight to make a living,
and by night, we take flight from our struggles via television,
alcohol, drugs or other forms of mass distraction.
But all the while, nagging questions lurk in the back of our minds:
"Is there hope or relief? Will our plight be better next week,
next year or ever?"
Not likely. According to Darwinists, life and evolution are an eternal
"struggle for survival."
Do we need a "faith-lift?"
All who participate in walking across coals or expressing spontaneous
remissions share one trait - an unshakable belief they will succeed in
their mission.
We do not use the word belief lightly. Belief resembles pregnancy -
you're either pregnant or you're not. The hardest part about the
belief game is that you either believe something or you don't - there
is no middle ground.
One compelling example of the mind's power over biology can be gleaned
from the mysterious dysfunction commonly referred to as multiple
personality disorder, more officiously known as dissociative identity
disorder (DID). A person with DID actually loses his or her own ego
identity and takes on the unique personality and behavioral traits of
a completely different person.
How could this be? Well, it's like listening to a radio station in
your car and, as you travel, the station becomes staticky and fades
out as a different station on the same frequency grows stronger. This
can be jarring if, for example, you are cruising with The Beach Boys
and, a couple of choppy moments later, you find yourself in the midst
of a fire-and-brimstone, Bible-thumping revival.
Neurologically, multiple personalities resemble radio-controlled
biological robots whose "station identification"
uncontrollably fades from one ego identity to another. The unique
behavior and personality expressed by each ego can be as vastly
different as folk music is from acid rock.
While almost all attention has been placed on the psychiatric
characteristics of persons affected with DID, there are also some
surprising physiological consequences that accompany ego change. Each
of the alternate personalities has a unique electroencephalogram (EEG)
profile, which is a biomarker equivalent to a neurological
fingerprint. Simply put, each individual persona comes with its own
unique brain programming.
Incredible as that may seem, many persons with multiple personalities
change eye color in the short interval it takes to transition from one
ego to the next. Some have scars in one personality that inexplicably
disappear as another personality emerges. Many exhibit allergies and
sensitivities in one personality but not in another. How is this
possible?
DID individuals might help us answer that question because they are
the poster children for a burgeoning new field of science called
psychoneuroimmunology, which, in people-speak, means the science
(-ology) of how the mind (psycho-) controls the brain (-neuro-), which
in turn controls the immune system (-immun-).
The paradigm-shattering implications of this new science are simply
this: while the immune system is the guardian of our internal
environment, the mind controls the immune system, which means the mind
shapes the character of our health. While DID represents a
dysfunction, it undeniably reveals the fact that programs in our mind
control our health and well-being as well as our diseases and our
ability to overcome those diseases.
Now you might be saying, "What? Beliefs control our biology? Mind
over matter? Think positive thoughts?"
What does science say about this mind over matter stuff? The answer
depends upon which science you ask.
The science of conventional medicine tries to reassure us that none of
the phenomena we just described actually exists. That's because
today's biology textbooks and mass media describe the body and its
component cells as machines made of biochemical building blocks.
This perception has programmed the general public to accept the belief
in genetic determinism, which is the notion that genes control
physical and behavioral traits. This sad interpretation is that our
fate is inextricably linked to ancestral characteristics determined by
genetic blueprints derived from our parents and their parents and
their parent's parents, ad infinitum. This causes people to believe
that they are victims of heredity.
Fortunately, the Human Genome Project (HGP) has pulled the rug out
from under conventional science's beliefs concerning genetic control.
This is ironic because it set out to prove the opposite. According to
conventional belief, the complexity of a human should require vastly
more genes than are found in a simple organism.
Surprisingly, the HGP discovered that humans have nearly the same
number of genes as lowly animals, a finding that inadvertently reveals
a fundamental myth-perception underlying genetic determinism.
Science's pet dogma has long outlived its usefulness and needs to be
mercifully put to sleep.
So, if genes do not control life , what does?
The answer is: we do.
Evolving new-edge science reveals that our power to control our lives
originates from our minds and is not preprogrammed in our genes.
This is great news. The power for change is within us. However, to
activate the amazing power of mind over genes we must reconsider our
fundamental beliefs-our perceptions and misperceptions-of life.

then confronted with the fact that the scare tactics used by both
sides in the debate about the need for a massive vaccination campaign
can - with a fair measure of certainty in my mind! - lead to serious
unintended consequences. On the one hand, those who believe
unconditionally the media and governments' repeated warnings about the
alleged seriousness of this epidemic and the need to be vaccinated are
experiencing extreme anxiety over this flu bug and over being unable
to receive the vaccine immediately, thus making them more prone to
fall more seriously ill if they are infected - a stressed out person
doesn't have as good a immune response and natural protection from
viruses as someone who is relaxed and confident about the innate
ability of his/her body's defense mechanisms to fight this off easily.
On the other hand, those who totally believe that this is a nefarious
conspiracy by some secret group to cull 6 billion people and that the
vaccine contains substances that can do much harm to them will
certainly avoid being vaccinated and may also be more prone to
experiencing panic attacks and extreme revulsion at this massively
dangerous scheme, which again is nothing good for their own well-being
and immune response. And then you can also think about those who have
heard all the warnings against the risk of taking this vaccine, but
who nevertheless could not suppress the fear instilled in them by the
media and health authorities, and who therefore went ahead and got
themselves vaccinated. In their subconscious mind, if they believe to
some degree the warnings they heard, they are damned if they take the
vaccine and damned if they don't. So they could indeed experience the
nocebo effect described below and come down with a number of symptoms
in line with their beliefs about the harm the vaccine could fdo to
them. That is definitely not a comfortable situation to be
in!...
If any pill has been shown undeniably to work in clinical trials, it
is the sugar pill, along with its close cousin, the sham treatment.
The placebo, as such inert and cost-free remedies are known, can
relieve depression as effectively as Prozac, ease discomfort as
effectively as acupuncture, and reduce as much disability and back
pain as a widely used vertebral surgery that costs up to $5,000.
That the effect of bogus treatments is real has long been known,
but the mechanism behind them is still largely a scientific mystery.
The standard explanation is that we are just fooling ourselves. In
Latin, placebo means "I shall please," which suggests that
the placebo effect is just a fleeting mind trick - that the mere
suggestion of pharmacologically induced pain relief humors the body
into temporary recovery. In trials, every drug response is in fact
assumed to be at least partially due to the placebo effect. But the
confounding thing about the benefits of the placebo is that the effect
is often not beneficial at all.
Consider the negative placebo response, called the nocebo effect. (The
term nocebo is also from Latin, this time from the infinitive nocere,
"to do harm.") A nocebo response occurs when the suggestion
of a negative effect of an intervention leads to an actual negative
outcome. When doctors tell patients that a medical procedure will be
extremely painful, for example, they tend to experience significantly
more pain than patients who weren't similarly warned. And in
double-blind clinical trials of antidepressants, even those
participants receiving a sugar pill report side effects like
gastrointestinal discomfort if investigators have warned them at the
outset that those effects are likely.
It's possible that the nocebo response is easily explained: in
the antidepressant trials, maybe some patients - given that they
already tended toward depression and anxiety - worried so much about
the doctor's cautions that their stomach released enough acids to
cause pain. That would make sense except that the range of possible
nocebo responses stretches far beyond stomachache (in extreme cases,
ailing patients who are mistakenly informed that they have only a few
months to live will die within their given time frame, even though
postmortem investigations show that there was no physiological
explanation for early death). In a new paper published in the journal
Pain, researchers found that clinical-trial participants have reported
a wide variety of nocebo-fueled medical complaints, including burning
sensations outside the stomach, sleepiness, fatigue, vomiting,
weakness and even taste disturbances, tinnitus and
upper-respiratory-tract infection. What's more, these nocebo
complaints aren't random; they tend to be specific to the type of drug
that patients believe they may be taking.
The Pain study, which was led by Italian neuroscientist Martina
Amanzio, reviewed 73 clinical trials conducted between 1988 and 2007.
All the previously published trials pitted potential antimigraine
medications against sugar pills. The medications included nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin and ibuprofen
(Advil); triptans, which include Imitrex; and anticonvulsant drugs
like Topamax. Those three categories of drugs carry different adverse
effects: NSAIDs, for instance, often cause stomach problems;
anticonvulsants can cause paresthesia (tingling) and memory
impairment. Interestingly, patients who took sugar pills tended to
report nocebo problems consistent with whatever drug they thought they
might have swallowed. No one who thought they could be taking an NSAID
or triptan reported memory problems or tingling, but some who thought
they might have taken anticonvulsants did. Likewise, only placebo
groups in the NSAID trials reported side effects like stomach upset
and dry mouth.
Exactly why the placebo and nocebo responses arise is a puzzle,
but a fascinating article in Wired magazine noted earlier this year
that the positive placebo response to drugs has increased during
clinical trials over the past few years. The article speculated that
drug advertising - which exploded after 1997, when the Food and Drug
Administration began allowing direct-to-consumer ads - has led us to
expect more from drugs. Those expectations, in turn, have made us feel
better just for popping a pill. (Placebo responses can also occur
simply when you book appointments with doctors or
psychotherapists.)
But the Pain study found that date of publication had no effect on the
side effects reported: the placebo and nocebo responses were just as
robust before 1997 as after. That leaves scientists still looking for
an answer. The Wired story suggested that the act of merely doing
something good for yourself may stimulate the body's "endogenous
health-care system," perhaps by inhibiting stress hormones. But
that wouldn't explain why the same act might lead to phantom nocebo
aches and pains.
A final question: What happens now that more of us are onto the
placebo/nocebo problem? Will our expectations adjust to reality? Who
knows? "The placebo is a trickster," says Ted Kaptchuk, a
placebo expert at Harvard Medical School. "We still don't
understand how it works." But Kaptchuk says it's possible to
defeat placebo benefits and overcome nocebo problems simply by being
aware of them. Mind, in other words, over mind.

wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, who took away citizens' rights, pushed
for martial law, and set up FEMA camps to incarcerate
"trouble-makers."
Everyone who designed viruses - AIDS, SARS, avian flu, and now swine
flu - some of them racially-specific - and vaccines whose only purpose
was to sicken and kill in the name of depopulating the globe. Everyone
who seeded the skies with chemtrails causing sickness and death from
Morgellon's disease.
Everyone who kept technologies from us that would have freed us from
fossil fuels back in the 1950s. Everyone who murdered inventors who
discovered how to make cars run on water. Everyone who created
space-based weapons systems to extend their rule into space.
Everyone who kept from us knowledge of the populated world of space.
Everyone who created a secret space service that has colonized Mars
since at least the 1970s.
Everyone who killed to hide Roswell from us and created secret areas
of research where they back-engineered miracles gained from downed
space craft and from treaties with the Greys and then kept them from
the public.
Everyone who ran torture prisons overseas, at underground secret
bases, or at Guantanamo. Everyone who ran institutions like the School
of the Americas where gangsters were trained to overthrow
democratically-elected regimes.
Everyone who created and used Blackwater and Whackenhut to create a
private army and prison or who sentenced children to jail as a

Every Congressional Representative and every Senator who accepted
bribes, favors, sex, trips and any other inducement that led them to
sell their vote to the Black Hats.
Everyone who plotted to take over Canada and Mexico out of a so-called
"Security and Prosperity Partnership" (ironic misnomer) or start a
third world war with Iran, Russia, or China to bring the population
down from 6.8 billion to a more manageable 500 million, destined to be
slaves.
Everyone who developed HAARP and used it to cause or amplify
earthquakes and hurricanes (including Katrina), killing tens of
thousands. Or ULF (ultra-low-frequency weapons) and experimented with
them, bringing down the I35W Mineneapolis bridge.
Everyone who speculated in currency and brought down national
economies which they then held hostage to onerous debt payments.
Everyone who made loans to third-world countries and then robbed them
of their resources when they couldn't pay.
There is so much more - a media bought and paid for, deep underground
military bunkers, Pine Gap, Australia space base, Area 51,
depleted-uranium weapons, printing truckloads of dollars.
This planet, reeling under the black-hole debt of the derivatives
megabubble, will no longer tolerate your rule.

Welcome to a new and unimaginable world, taking shape before our eyes.
What world am I talking about?
I'm talking about the New Age that is expected to begin after our
planetary transformation around Dec. 21, 2012.
Predictions of what the 2012 community calls "ascension,
or "enlightenment plus," are reaching us from the Earth's
own spiritual hierarchy, the star nations that are here to help us,
Earth's scientists, and planetary intuitives.
Before Christmas, I am told, we can expect President Obama to
disclose the fact that human beings from other star systems are here,
in spacecraft around our planet, some cloaked, some in other
dimensions, and that evolved life exists in many places in the
universe.
We are about to be joined by family.
Following disclosure, the spiritual hierarchy and Galactic Federation
(or SHGF, for short) will join us to address the deficiencies in the
world situation caused by the fall of Earth's former
controllers.
We will have a new "wisdom economy." The galactics will give us
technology that will address all our economic difficulties and bring
us a new social lifestyle marked by ease and empowerment.
They will equip us to "pass through the eye of the needle" in
2012, leaving our dualistic consciousness behind and sporting a
unitive consciousness. If you've ever seen or heard an enlightened
teacher, that's how we'll look and sound beyond 2012.
I personally follow most closely the SHGF messages coming from
channelers, but also the terrestrial commentary coming from the 2012
community of scientists, whistleblowers, and intuitives.
Before most of these events happen, though, we have a "time of
troubles" to go through and that time will include the overthrow of
the New World Order, Illuminati, shadow state or whatever name you use
to refer to the "Black Hats."
The Black Hats are up to so much mischief that I have had to
write two articles simply listing their misdeeds: " I Accuse "
and " The Black Hats Must Go ." They say the whole thing.
During the time of troubles, I will be exerting all my strength
to push this behemoth off a cliff. Please do not be alarmed. I serve
the Light. But I will not rest until the Black Hats have left the
halls of power.
Hopefully while doing that work, and definitely once it's
accomplished, I look forward to serving you by interpreting events,
drawing on a cross-cultural spiritual background, time spent studying
the spirit planes and the galactics' messages, and a commitment to

The U.S. government is now so totally under the thumbs of organized
interest groups that "our" government can no longer respond
to the concerns of the American people who elect the president and the
members of the House and Senate. Voters will vent their frustrations
over their impotence on the president, which implies a future of
one-term presidents. Soon our presidents will be as ineffective as
Roman emperors in the final days of that empire.
Obama is already set on the course to a one-term presidency. He
promised change but has delivered none. His health care bill is held
hostage by the private insurance companies seeking greater profits.
The most likely outcome will be cuts in Medicare and Medicaid in order
to help fund wars that enrich the military-security complex and the
many companies created by privatizing services that the military once
provided for itself at far lower costs.
It would be interesting to know the percentage of the $700-plus
billion "defense" spending that goes to private companies.
In American "capitalism," an amazing amount of taxpayers'
earnings go to private firms via the government. Yet, Republicans
scream about "socializing" health care.
Republicans and Democrats saw opportunities to create new sources of
campaign contributions by privatizing as many military functions as
possible. There are now a large number of private companies that have
never made a dollar in the market, feeding instead at the public
trough that drains taxpayers of dollars while loading Americans with
debt service obligations.
Obama inherited an excellent opportunity to bring U.S. soldiers home
from the George W. Bush regime's illegal wars of aggression. In its
final days, the Bush regime realized that it could "win" in
Iraq by putting the Sunni insurgents on the U.S. military payroll.
Once Bush had 80,000 insurgents collecting U.S. military pay,
violence, although still high, dropped in half. All Obama had to do
was to declare victory and bring our boys home, thanking Bush for
winning the war. It would have shut up the Republicans.
But this sensible course would have impaired the profits and share
prices of those firms that comprise the military-security complex. So
instead of doing what Obama said he would do and what the voters
elected him to do, Obama restarted the war in Afghanistan and launched
a new one in Pakistan. Soon, Obama was echoing Bush and Dick Cheney's
threats to attack Iran.
In place of health care for Americans, there will be more profits for
private insurance companies.
In place of peace, there will be more war.
Voters are already recognizing the writing on the wall and are falling
away from Obama and the Democrats. Independents who gave Obama his
comfortable victory have now swung against him, recently electing
Republican governors in New Jersey and Virginia to succeed Democrats.
This is a protest vote, not a confidence vote in Republicans.
Obama's credibility is shot. And so is Congress', assuming it ever had
any. The U.S. House of Representatives has just voted to show the
entire world that the U.S. House of Representatives is nothing but the
servile, venal puppet of the Israel lobby. The House of
Representatives of the American "superpower" did the bidding
of its master, AIPAC, and voted 344 to 36 to condemn the Goldstone
Report.
In case you don't know, the Goldstone Report is the Report of the
United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict. The
"Gaza Conflict" is the Israeli military attack on the Gaza
ghetto, where 1.5 million dispossessed Palestinians, whose lands,
villages and homes were stolen by Israel, are housed. The attack was
on civilians and civilian infrastructure. It was without any doubt a
war crime under the Nuremberg standard that the U.S. established in
order to execute Nazis.
Goldstone is not only a very distinguished Jewish jurist who has given
his life to bringing people to accountability for their crimes against
humanity, but also a Zionist. However, the Israelis have demonized him
as a "self-hating Jew" because he wrote the truth instead of
Israeli propaganda.
U.S. Representative Dennis Kucinich, who is now without a doubt a
marked man on AIPAC's political extermination list, asked the House if
the members had any realization of the shame that the vote condemning
Goldstone would bring on the House and the U.S. government. The entire
rest of the world accepts the Goldstone report.
The House answered with its lopsided vote that the rest of the world
doesn't count, as it doesn't give campaign contributions to members of
Congress.
This shameful, servile act of "the world's greatest democracy"
occurred the very week that a court in Italy convicted 23 U.S.
CIA officers for kidnapping a person in Italy. The CIA agents are now
considered "fugitives from justice" in Italy, and indeed
they are.
The kidnapped person was renditioned to the American puppet state of
Egypt, where the victim was held for years and repeatedly tortured.
The case against him was so absurd that even an Egyptian judge order
his release.
One of the convicted CIA operatives, Sabrina deSousa, an attractive
young woman, says that the U.S. broke the law by kidnapping a person
and sending him to another country to be tortured in order to
manufacture another "terrorist" in order to keep the
terrorist hoax going at home. Without the terrorist hoax, America's
wars for special interest reasons would become transparent even to Fox
"News" junkies.
DeSousa says that "everything I did was approved back in
Washington," yet the government, which continually berates us to
"support the troops," did nothing to protect her when she
carried out the Bush regime's illegal orders.
Clearly, this means that the crime that Bush, Cheney, the Pentagon and
the CIA ordered is too heinous and beyond the pale to be justified,
even by memos from the despicable John Yoo and the Republican
Federalist Society.
DeSousa is clearly worried about herself. But where is her concern for
the innocent person that she sent into an Egyptian hell to be tortured
until death or admission of being a terrorist? The remorse deSousa
expresses is only for herself. She did her evil government's bidding,
and her evil government that she so faithfully served turned its back
on her. She has no remorse for the evil she committed against an
innocent person.
Perhaps deSousa and her 22 colleagues grew up on video games. It was
great fun to plot to kidnap a real person and fly him on a CIA plane
to Egypt. Was it like a fisherman catching a fish or a deer hunter
killing a beautiful 8-point buck? Clearly, they got their jollies at
the expense of their renditioned victim.
The finding of the Italian court, and keep in mind that Italy is a
bought-and-paid-for U.S. puppet state, indicates that even our bought
puppets are finding the U.S. too much to stomach.
Moving from the tip of the iceberg down, we have Ambassador Craig
Murray, rector of the University of Dundee and until 2004 the British
ambassador to Uzbekistan, which he describes as a Stalinist
totalitarian state courted and supported by the Americans.
As ambassador, Murray saw the MI5 intelligence reports from the CIA
that described the most horrible torture procedures. "People were
raped with broken bottles, children were tortured in front of their
parents until they (the parents) signed a confession, people were
boiled alive."
"Intelligence" from these torture sessions was passed on by
the CIA to MI5 and to Washington as proof of the vast al-Qaida
conspiracy.
Murray reports that the people delivered by CIA flights to
Uzbekistan's torture prisons "were told to confess to membership
in al-Qaida. They were told to confess they'd been in training camps
in Afghanistan. They were told to confess they had met Osama bin Laden
in person. And the CIA intelligence constantly echoed these
themes."
"I was absolutely stunned," says the British ambassador, who
thought that he served a moral country that, along with its American
ally, had moral integrity. The great Anglo-American bastion of
democracy and human rights, the homes of the Magna Carta and the Bill
of Rights, the great moral democracies that defeated Nazism and stood
up to Joseph Stalin's gulags, were prepared to commit any crime in
order to maximize profits.
Murray learned too much and was fired when he vomited it all up. He
saw the documents that proved that the motivation for U.S. and British
military aggression in Afghanistan had to do with the natural gas
deposits in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The Americans wanted a
pipeline that bypassed Russia and Iran and went through Afghanistan.
To ensure this, an invasion was necessary. The idiot American public
could be told that the invasion was necessary because of 9-11 and to
save them from "terrorism," and the utter fools would
believe the lie.
"If you look at the deployment of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, as
against other NATO country forces in Afghanistan, you'll see that
undoubtedly the U.S. forces are positioned to guard the pipeline
route. It's what it's about. It's about money, its about energy, it's
not about democracy."
Guess who the consultant was who arranged with then-Texas Gov. George
W. Bush the agreements that would give to Enron the rights to
Uzbekistan's and Turkmenistan's natural gas deposits and to Unocal to
develop the trans-Afghanistan pipeline. It was Hamad Karzai, the
U.S.-imposed "president" of Afghanistan, who has no support
in the country except for American bayonets.
Murray was dismissed from the British Foreign Service for his
revelations. No doubt on orders from Washington to our British
puppet.
The monster devouring us: Even the men who created the internet are
beginning to fear its power to destroy our freedom

Fast-forward 40 years. It is November 2049 and privacy is a distant
memory.
Every telephone call you make, every text you send on your mobile
phone, every email and videocall, every financial transaction is
recorded, stored, analysed and can potentially be used against
you.
Each waking hour you are also deluged with marketing calls and sales
pitches - which pop up on your mobile, your hand-held computer and
even in your car.
You walk into a shop and not only do the salesmen know who you are,
they know what you want - before you even open your mouth.
This is a world in which you are constantly worried about who is
reading your emails and analysing your phone calls.
Come election time, you are bombarded with video texts of the party
leaders addressing your concerns. The powers that be know how much tax
you pay, what you spend your money on, how many children you have and
who your friends are.
It is a Britain, indeed a world, where the private individual has
ceased to exist, and one in which an unholy alliance of the state and
Mammon rules our lives with powers that would have made Stalin sick
with envy.
This dystopian nightmare is a distinct possibility thanks to what is
probably the most significant invention of the 20th century - the
internet.
And although this nightmare is set in the future, much of it is
starting to happen.
The net, which turned 40 years old last week, is often touted as the
ultimate tool of freedom and knowledge.
The computer from which 40 years ago the first message was sent over
the internet, between the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)
and Stanford University
But in another 40 years' time, will we still be celebrating this
extraordinary electronic marvel - or rueing the creation of a monster?
That is the troubling question being asked not just by technological
luddites, but by the founders of the internet itself.
Although most people became aware of the net only in the early
Nineties, the global 'network of networks' has a history stretching
back to the earliest days of computing.
The first network connection was made on October 29, 1969, when an
undergraduate called Charley Kline attempted to make a computer in Los
Angeles communicate with another computer at Stanford up the
coast.
The first word communicated on the net was 'Lo' - Kline was attempting
to type the word 'Login' when the system crashed.
They got it working again and, for nearly three decades, what became
known as the 'internet' (the actual term was first used in 1974)
remained mostly a tool of academia and the military, gradually
spreading its tentacles across the globe.
But then came the invention of the world wide web - the means by which
anyone, anywhere could easily access this brave new online world.
This was the creation of British scientist Tim Berners-Lee and Robert
Cailliau, his Belgian colleague at the CERN nuclear research institute
in 1989.
Thanks to them, we are now in an age when it is almost impossible to
imagine life without the net. With every passing year, its power and
importance increases.
And herein lie the doubts of its founders.
For while the net has been championed as the ultimate expression of
'people power', there is a more sinister possibility. Its dominance in
our lives has led its architects to fear it could be used as a weapon
of intrusion, suppression and exploitation.
Already, anti-democratic regimes are increasingly subverting the
openness of the net and using it as a weapon against their
enemies.
Take China, which went online in 1993 and now has the greatest number
of internet users of any nation - about a third of a billion.
This phenomenal growth in internet use has been subsidised and
encouraged by the Beijing regime. And yet despite the flow of
countless terabytes of data, China is as far from being a democracy as
it was at the time of the Tiananmen Square riots 20 years ago. It's a
troubling paradox, but one explained by the very nature of what the
internet actually does.
It has been joked that the one thing you need for a totalitarian state
to work is a decent filing system. Indeed, it has been estimated that
in East Germany, the Stasi secret police 'employed' a third of the
population to act as snoops on compatriots.
Now imagine that the Stasi had had access to Google.
As Robert Cailliau says: 'It would have been terrible.'
There would have been no need for a network of potentially unreliable
human snoops; just a few servers quietly hooked up to everyone's
telephone lines and computers, monitoring their credit card usage and
cross-matching it all with the pictures coming in from millions of
CCTV cameras.
Cailliau's fears are echoed by Professor Peter Kirstein of University
College London, the man responsible for bringing the first internet
connection to Britain in the early Seventies.
'Once you have a universal medium like this, it is very hard to keep
information about events hidden; to that extent, it is a great tool
against oppression,' he says.
'However, by the same token, it is very straightforward to build in
monitoring facilities into the heart of the network, so that the
authorities can discover where the information they don't like is
coming from.'
In other words, far from empowering freedom-fighters, the web can be
used to track them down easily and suppress them.
The really 'sinister stuff' will come from big business because the
'temptation to exploit data is very high'
Professor Kirstein believes that in the future, there will be a
constant battle, a kind of arms race between the authorities and the
subversives - or oppressed.
Whether good or evil will be in the lead in 40 years' time is anyone's
guess.
Yet Professor Cailliau believes there is an even graver threat from
the net than totalitarian tyranny. He believes the 'really sinister
stuff' will come not from governments, but from big business. The
trouble, he says, stems from the ease by which data can be gathered,
processed and sold on.
'The temptation to exploit these things is very high.'
Already Google, the very symbol of the 21st-century net, has been
accused of hoarding data from its millions of email users.
Many fear that in the coming decades, Google will be unable to resist
the temptation of cashing in on this goldmine of information it
holds.
Currently, the company makes much of its money from being a shop
window for online advertising.
But Google's 'knowledge' of individual people, thanks to its email
services and mobile phone applications, goes much deeper than
that.
The technology already exists to enable Google, or companies like it,
to track every move - quite literally - of the millions who have a
web-enabled mobile phone.
A life online
Indeed, it is already increasingly hard to live your life without the
internet.
Booking holidays, buying airline tickets, banking, insurance - even
keeping in touch with friends - is increasingly being done using the
net. And everything you do online can, in theory, be recorded for
ever.
'If I sign up for Facebook and want my account destroyed, it is
impossible,' says Cailliau. 'They keep tabs on you, there will always
be a trace.'
Furthermore, every time you sign up for an online service, be it
Twitter, Facebook or even an online supermarket loyalty card, you
provide huge amounts of valuable information.
Even data about yourself that you have not directly volunteered can be
gleaned by so-called data-mining software - used to spot patterns
about your behaviour and sift gold dust from the morass of electronic
information that you have produced by going online.
This can then be used to tailor Google's service to your individual
'needs' or even financial status.
'Maybe when I go to an airline site and buy a ticket, I'll be quoted a
price that they have worked out I will be able to pay - a price quite
different from that given to my neighbours,' says Robert Cailliau.
The key to all this is the ability of Google and other companies to
store data.
Every move we make
Forty years ago, storing information of any kind was expensive; now
computer memory is so cheap that in the near future it should be
possible to record in digital form every telephone conversation, every
television and radio transmission and every movie and still image.
Already, more than two billion songs a day are shared over the net,
hundreds of millions of video streams are placed on YouTube, the
surveillance CCTV cameras in London alone send 64 trillion bits of
data a day to their command centres.
By the end of the next decade or so, humankind will be producing more
information each second than was produced in the entire 19th century.
And all this information can be stored, cross-referenced and mined for
eternity.
This is a new phenomenon, and has massive and disturbing
potential.
As Professor Kirstein says: 'Every travel movement you make, every
commercial transaction, any official request - they are all logged
somewhere. Our ability to disappear is completely constrained by any
public activity.'
There are laws against this, though they are not well-enforced, but it
is still possible - just - to avoid being sucked in by the net.
And surprisingly, one of those trying to is Robert Cailliau.
'I'm not on Twitter, nor Facebook, or LinkedIn, or any of these
systems,' he says.
Why not?
'Because they suck in your soul and they will not let you go. Try to
get out of any of them, and you will see. They are just like some
religions where apostasy is punished by death.'
Forty years from its birth, the net has become ubiquitous, awesomely
successful and, in itself, morally neutral.
But the question remains: will the internet of 2049 be a tool we
will all cherish - or something which has become a force for evil such
as we have not seen in the entire history of Man.
A social worker from New York City was arrested last week while in
Pittsburgh for the G-20 protests, then subjected to an FBI raid this
week at home -- all for using Twitter. Elliot Madison faces charges of
hindering apprehension or prosecution, criminal use of a communication
facility and possession of instruments of crime. He was posting to a
Twitter feed (or tweeting, as it is called) publicly available
information about police activities around the G-20 protests,
including information about where police had issued orders to
disperse.
While alerting people to public information may not seem to be an
arrestable offense, be forewarned: Many people have been arrested for
the same "crime" -- in Iran, that is.
Last June 20, as Iranians protested against the conduct and results of
their national election, President Barack Obama said in a statement,
"The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be
respected, and the United States stands with all who seek to exercise
those rights."
His statement was released in English, Farsi and Arabic and posted on
the White House's very own Twitter feed. His tweet read, "We call
on the Iranian government to stop all violent and unjust actions
against its own people."
U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., wrote
to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, urging her to pressure European
nations to restrict sales of eavesdropping technology to Iran. They
wrote: "Following recent elections, the Iranian government has
used a new communications monitoring center to interfere with and
suppress Internet and cell phone communications as part of efforts to
crackdown on Iranian citizens peacefully demonstrating ... including
voice calls, email, text messaging, instant messages, and Web traffic,
as well as posts to social networking sites such as Twitter, MySpace
and Facebook."
The U.S. State Department, impressed with the importance of Twitter to
Iranian protests, asked Twitter to delay system maintenance that might
have interrupted the service during the Iranian protests.
While Madison optimistically mused, "I'm expecting the State
Department will come out and support us also," his lawyer,
respected civil rights attorney Martin Stolar, said: "This is
just unbelievable. It is the thinnest, silliest case that I've ever
seen. It tends to criminalize support services for people who are
involved in lawful protest activity. And it's just shocking that
somebody could be arrested for essentially walking next to somebody
and saying: 'Hey, don't go down that street, because the police have
issued an order to disperse. Stay away from there.'"
Madison, his wife and housemates were roused from sleep during the
weekend when the Joint Terrorism Task Force swept into their house,
handcuffing them for hours, searching the house and removing computers
and other property from everyone in the house. Madison said the FBI
"for 16 hours, proceeded to take everything, from plush toys to
kitchen magnets and lots of books ... they took Curious George stuffed
animals."
Rather than encourage and support the use of distributed,
decentralized social networks to strengthen our democracy and dissent
(remember, the Obama campaign itself relied extensively on these
online and mobile tools), the government seems headed in the opposite
direction. Los Angeles Chief of Police William Bratton recently won
acclaim at the annual meeting of the Major Cities Chiefs Association,
a professional organization of police executives representing 63 of
the largest cities in the United States and Canada. Bratton has
launched "I Watch LA," described as "a community
awareness program created to educate the public about behaviors and
activities that may have a connection to terrorism." The iWatch
program, despite Bratton's assertion otherwise, is about spying on
your neighbors and turning them in to the police.
One Iranian twitterer for the virtual news hub Tehran Bureau recalled
the June protests in an essay: "An officer spoke to us through a
loud speaker: 'Disperse: This is your last warning.' The sight of them
made my knees tremble, but the wave pushed on and so I went along."
He was beaten, bloodied, arrested and held for 20 days. While Elliot
Madison was not physically harmed, his legal battles are just
beginning, and his case could prove central to the future of free
speech in the mobile, digital age.
It is time for the digital censors here in the U.S. to
disperse.

Iran has moved to block the last remaining outlet of expression
for the country's political opposition with the launch of a special
force to police the internet. (...) Access to the internet is already
restricted in Iran. An estimated 10m websites deemed socially or
politically offensive have been blocked - prompting the Paris-based
media watchdog Reporters Without Borders to list Iran as one of the
world's 13 worst internet "black holes". A registration
system has also been introduced for bloggers, many of whom have been
arrested and jailed. Three years ago, the government banned high-speed
broadband internet for home users in an attempt to prevent the
downloading of western films and pornography. But the new crime unit
represents a significant escalation of a clampdown on cyberspace that
has intensified since the mass streets protests that greeted
Ahmadinejad's re-election. In the days after the June poll, internet
speeds were reduced to a crawl while Facebook and Yahoo Messenger -
used by many activists to communicate - were blocked. At the same
time, it was disclosed that Iran had purchased equipment jointly
produced by the German electronics firm Siemens and Nokia, the Finnish
mobile phone manufacturer, to closely monitor internet and email
communications. The revelations prompted a consumer boycott of the
companies by pro-opposition demonstrators.
NHPs (Natural Health Products) are defined in the Regulations to
include:
- traditional medicines
- homeopathic medicines
- vitamins and minerals
- herbal remedies
- probiotics
- amino acids
- plant isolates
- essential fatty acids (like Omega-3)
NHPs exclude:
- prescription drugs
- drugs administered by puncturing the skin
- substances that are regulated by the Tobacco Act or the
Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
New Brunswick pharmacist John Staples says it's "crazy" for
Health Canada to apply the same standards to both pharmaceuticals and
natural health products.
"Pharmaceutical drugs are far more potent and just a slight
deviation in dosage can be dangerous," said Staples, whose
Moncton pharmacy Staples Drugs, has sold both types of drugs for 40
years.
"A doctor can prescribe the arthritis drug Celebrex for you, but
it can also cause a heart attack," he said as an example.
"With homeopathic drugs, you can take 10 times the dosage and
there's no problem."
Health Canada is not allowing any "may" claims. For
instance, a label cannot say the product "may" do something.
In Health Canada's eyes, it either has an effect or not.
Just over 36 per cent of natural health products were rejected
for licensing.
Codex Alimentarius
The primary mandate of Codex is to develop food standards for the
protection of the health of consumers and to ensure fair practices in
food trade. The standards, guidelines and related texts developed by
Codex are intended for voluntary use by governments.
Health Canada's official position on the adoption of Codex
guidelines.
Codex will essentially be treating all nutrients as toxins until
they are licensed. Therefore, only what is expressly allowed
under Codex Alimentarius will be permitted, and everything else is
forbidden.
Although Canada is proclaiming that the strict Codex guidelines will
not be adopted fully in Canada...
Section 1.3 of the Guidelines stipulates that they are for use
only in those countries that regulate vitamin and mineral supplements
as food. As Canada regulates vitamin and mineral supplements as
natural health products, the Guidelines are not applicable to the
Canadian regulatory system. The manufacture, importation and sale of
vitamin and mineral supplements and other natural health products in
Canada will not be affected by the Commission's adoption of the
Guidelines. Such products will continue to be regulated in Canada by
the Natural Health Products Regulations under the Canadian Food and
Drugs Act.

... once can't help but wonder if there is a bit of slight of
hand in pushing through legislation under a differently name policy -
equally harmonizing Canada's Food, drug and mineral guidelines with
the WTO's agenda.
I doubt that the decision makers in Canada will want to be on the
losing end of a trade dispute when the rules with the World Trade
Organization state: When disputes arise and countries are pulled
in to WTO, the one that is Codex compliant automatically wins,
regardless of the merits of its case.

"Spaceship Earth" - A Status Update - November 10,
2009
One of the leading experts on planet Earth, James Lovelock,
believes that there is very little we can do to stave off global
warming catastrophes. Lovelock is the man who created the Gaia theory
- that the Earth is essentially a complex interacting system that can
be thought of as a single organism.

Today, Lovelock believes that a rapid drop in carbon in the
atmosphere could actually do more damage than good. He believes that
the global warming that we are currently experiencing is offset by a
cooling of 2-3C, caused by Global Dimming -essentially, the
reduction of direct irradiance at the Earth's atmosphere as a result
of industrial pollution, known to others as aerosol particles.
It's a horrible catch 22 situation that leaves only a very small gap
for any joy at all. If we continue to do nothing (note the use of the
word continue), then we will doom ourselves. If we do do
something, like a massive cut back in the emission of carbon in to our
atmosphere, Lovelock believes that we would further damage
Earth.
"Any economic downturn or planned cutback in fossil fuel use,
which lessened aerosol density, would intensify the heating,"
Lovelock will say, in a lecture to the Royal Society today. "If
there were a 100 per cent cut in fossil fuel combustion it might get
hotter not cooler. We live in a fool's climate. We are damned if we
continue to burn fuel and damned if we stop too suddenly."
What's worse is that Lovelock believes that the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize
winning Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change are underestimating the severity of climate change.
He has labeled a report issued by the IPCC earlier this year as
"properly cautious", adding that he believes the report
leaves a tone of "we can fix this", when there is none. He
continues and adds that a possibly six to eight billion people will
suffer food and water shortages, intolerable climates, and the
extinction of entire ecosystems.
"We are at war with the Earth and as in a blitzkrieg, events
proceed faster than we can respond." In his speech to the Royal
Society, he will argue that when a model includes the whole Earth
system it shows that "?when the carbon dioxide in the air
exceeds 500 parts per million the global temperature suddenly rises
6C and becomes stable again despite further increases or decreases of
atmospheric carbon dioxide. This contrasts with the IPCC models that
predict that temperature rises and falls smoothly with increasing or
decreasing carbon dioxide."
The man who has come under criticism by the Oxford evolutionary
biologist Richard Dawkins, is not solely alarmist. He believes
that we should attempt to lower greenhouse gases, and minimize the
destruction of forests; but he believes that that will simply not be
enough.
The bottom line, according to Lovelock, is that we will simply have to
adapt.

predict what ice sheets will do, but that they will certainly react
much more strongly to climate warming in the future," he says.

coming. But there is no reason to reassure them, either, that there is

Is birth control the answer to environmental ills?

Population growth , now at roughly 78 million extra people
per year, is the don't-go-there zone of modern environmentalism and
political discourse.
But let's go there for the moment: The biodiversity crisis . The water
crisis . The climate crisis . Lurking behind all these crises is at
least one shared factor: human population. Species extinction? Think
land clearing for agriculture to feed a growing population of 6.8
billion people. Water? The majority of water goes directly to growing
that same food supply. And giving a helping hand to all these other
crises as a result of all the fossil fuel burning needed to power our
lives and lift billions out of poverty: anthropogenic climate
change.
So is birth control policy and access the answer to the
environmental challenges of our time? So argues an editorial in The Lancet , as well as recent research from
the London School of Economics, and statisticians at Oregon State
University, just to name a few recent examples.
This suggestion is rarely received warmly. The Sierra Club has
been troubled in recent years by U.S. nativists opposed to population
growth, particularly via immigration. " The Population
Bomb ," a controversial book by environmental scientist Paul
Ehrlich predicting widespread starvation as a result of population
growth, turned off a generation of thinkers, in part by being wrong
(at least in the short term) and in part by seeming anti-human,
continuing a tradition that stretches back to the "Dismal
Theorem" of Thomas Malthus. And, of course, the specter of
population control looms like an Orwellian nightmare, ceding control
over what we think of as one of the most basic freedoms a human being
has.
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B-a journal from
the Royal Society whose motto is "Take nobody's word for it"
-wades into these treacherous waters this week with a special issue, " The Impact of Population Growth on Tomorrow's World ." As
Roger Short of the University of Melbourne writes in the introduction,
"The inexorable increase in human numbers is exhausting
conventional energy supplies, accelerating environmental pollution and
global warming, and providing an increasing number of failed states
where civil unrest prevails," among other faults. And he goes so
far as to call for a halt to future population growth.
Then again, ask other contributors to the special issue, is population
growth even a problem? After all, as various nations have developed,
birth rates have fallen-in some cases so much so that populations are
shrinking-thanks, in large part, to empowering women to control their
reproduction. Or so argue public health scientists Martha Campbell and
Kathleen Beford of the University of California, Berkeley in the
special issue.
Yet, this demographic transition does not hold everywhere. And, as
political scientist Bradley Thayer of Baylor University argues in the
same issue, national population bombs trigger war, especially of the
internecine civil variety, as well as terrorism as "youth bulges"
in Middle Eastern countries leave large masses of young men without
economic prospects. In fact, notes Steven Sinding of the Gutmacher
Institute in Manchester, Vt., controlling population growth can
actually help individuals and families escape poverty. Witness the
exceptional economic rise of China in recent decades, in part helped
along by the controversial One Child Policy instituted by Mao
Zedong.
And family planning has proven effective in the past, from Thailand to
Iran, yet funding for such programs has dwindled in recent years.
Partially as a result, developing countries in eastern Africa-Kenya,
Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe-have seen their populations begin to
increase rapidly again in recent years.
Lurking behind all this is a potential crisis in the very
resource that has enabled this unprecedented expansion of human
numbers: fossil fuels. Thanks to growing population and dwindling
supplies, fossil fuel production per capita may peak by
mid-century -ending the two centuries of unlimited growth in energy
production that is at the root of modern civilization, consultant
Richard Nehring writes in the journal.
Yet the issue leaves unexplored vexing questions such as: Who gets to
set the limiting number for population growth? Who are the targets of
restrained fertility and is this just? And, ultimately, is there an
ideal number for human population on this planet?
While an increase in population from 6.8 billion today to closer to 10
billion by mid-century will make sustainable living on the planet a
challenge, especially since the bulk of that growth will be among
those living in poverty who have a moral claim to economic
development, the real problem may not be human numbers so much as
human behavior. After all, we have doubled the population in the past
50 years while the world economy measured as global gross domestic
product has increased seven-fold and resource use has increased nearly
four-fold.
The real problem may be consumption, which, to date, begets ever
more consumption.

natural resources. Why does a country like this have so many poor
people?

has to do with what we call the colonial condition of our societies.
Countries that have a collection of natural resources, renewable or
nonrenewable, seem to be condemned to be poor countries. It's
paradoxical, isn't it? Unfortunately, colonialism is always a part
of the development of capitalism. There is an emancipation process
that happens through the implementation of a different global economic
order than the current one. That's why a total, simple and definite
break with colonialism allows us to imagine a world economic order,
globalized in a different way than that which is driven by the
accumulation of capital.
JOHN PERKINS: [translated] What things can Bolivia do, or should
they do, to bring about necessary change?
VICE PRESIDENT ALVARO GARCIA LINERA: [translated] This is a
country of nine million inhabitants, where 62 percent of the
population is indigenous, both in the cities and the farmlands.
Bolivia is a country with mestizos, Aymaras, Quechas, Guaranis,
Mojenio, Trinitarios, Irionos, thirty-two indigenous groups and
nations. But, unfortunately, in the 181 years of the republic's
political life, the indigenous people were never recognized as
citizens with collective rights. Never. This continent is waking up. I
like the idea of "a continent in movement" as a synthesis of
what's been happening during the past five to six years in Latin
America. There's a movement developing of world citizenship and
planetary responsibility. There is something beautiful happening in
these countries which makes them get involved in the situations of
countries like Bolivia, a country that wants to live a better life,
where 58 percent of the people live on less than $2 a day.
AMY GOODMAN: An excerpt from the research done for The End of

with the Bolivian vice president by John Perkins, who will now join us
in our firehouse studio after break.
AMY GOODMAN: John Perkins calls himself a former economic hit man. He
has seen the signs of today's financial meltdown before. The
subprime mortgage fiasco, the collapse of the banking industry, the
rising unemployment rate-these are all familiar to him.
Perkins was on the front lines of monitoring and helping create these
very events that were once just confined to the third world. From
'71 to 1981, he worked for the international consulting firm Chas T.
Main, where he was a self-described "economic hit man." It was
based in Boston.
He's the author of the New York Times bestseller, Confessions of an
Economic Hit Man and The Secret History of the American Empire. Well,
he's out with a new book. It's called Hoodwinked: An Economic Hit
Man Reveals Why the World Financial Markets Imploded-and What We
Need to Do to Remake Them.
He joins me here in the firehouse studio.
Welcome, John. Well, for starters, though we've discussed this
before, what exactly does an "economic hit man" mean?
JOHN PERKINS: Well, Amy, I think it's fair to say that we economic
hit men have managed to create the world's first truly global
empire. And it's basically a secret empire.
We do it in many ways, but principally, we identify a country that has
resources that corporations covet, like oil, arrange a huge loan to
that country from the World Bank or one of its sisters. The money
never actually goes to the country; it goes to our own corporations to
build the infrastructure projects in that country that help a few very
wealthy people, but don't benefit the majority of the people, who
are too poor to buy electricity or have cars to drive on the highways.
And yet, they're left holding a huge debt that they can't
repay.
So we go back at some point and say, "You know, you can't pay your
debts. Give us a pound of flesh. Sell your oil real cheap to our oil
companies. Vote with us on the next critical UN vote. Allow us to
build a military base in your backyard." Something along these
lines.
And when we fail-as I talk in my books, I failed with Jaime Roldos,
president of Ecuador, Omar Torrijos of Panama-the Jackals go in and
either overthrow or assassinate these leaders. And if the Jackals
fail, as they did in Iraq, then we send in the military.
AMY GOODMAN: And what personal experience do you have to prove
this?
JOHN PERKINS: Well, I was there. You know, I was with Jaime Roldos in
Ecuador. I was the guy-one of the guys who was supposed to corrupt
him, bring him around, and Omar Torrijos of Panama and many others.
When I failed with those two gentlemen, the Jackals went in and
assassinated both of them. And I was there; I was in those front
lines. My official title was chief economist of Charles T. Main. I had
about three dozen employees working for me and did this for ten years,
and finally saw the light.
But I think what's-you know, what's really important about all
this is that in this period of time, since the 1970s, and really
beginning very strongly in the 1980s, we've created what I consider
a mutant, viral form of capitalism. Earlier on the program, you showed
the statistics of 37 percent of the people in the survey not believing
that capitalism is working. I don't think the failure is capitalism.
I think it's the specific kind of capitalism that we've developed
in the last thirty or forty years, particularly beginning with the
time of Reagan and Milton Friedman's economic theories, which stress
that the only goal of business is to maximize profit, regardless of
the social and environmental costs, and not to regulate businesses at
all-regulation is bad, all forms-and to privatize everything, so
that everything is run by private business. And this mutant form of
capitalism, which I think is really a predatory form of capitalism,
has created an extremely unstable, unsustainable, unjust and very,
very dangerous world.
AMY GOODMAN: You talk about the robber barons, the modern day robber
barons. Who do you mean?
JOHN PERKINS: So many of them. You know, we've seen them recently on
Wall Street, the people from Goldman Sachs and Citigroup and so many
other organizations, people like Jack Welch, who is a former CEO of
General Electric. And as I lecture at business schools and MBA
programs, Jack Welch is often held up as this idol. Jack Welch laid
off a quarter of GE's employees. You know, he said he was making the
company meaner and leaner-he certainly was making it meaner-gave
himself huge raises and bonuses at the same time, turned General
Electric essentially from a manufacturing company into a financial
services company, which really was one of the leaders in taking us
down this course today that we're on of a failed economic
system.
And we truly have a failed economic system at this point. It's deep.
You know, one of the reasons I wrote Hoodwinked is because I saw a lot
of books coming out that deal with what I consider triage. What do you
do with AIG? What do you do with General Electric? What do you do
about the immediate problems with Wall Street? But the problem is
much, much deeper. There's a cancer beneath all that. And this is
this very basics of our current economic system. And we must delve
down and root out that cancer and move into something much better.
I have a two-year-old grandson. And as I look at this baby, you know,
I think, what's this world going to look like in six decades, when
he's my age? If we stay the course, it will be horrible. But we have
this opportunity now, and I think this economic turmoil that we're
in today is teaching us that we must change. We have a failed system.
We must create something better. And we must realize that my grandson
can't possibly hope to inherit a sustainable, just and peaceful
world, unless every child growing up in Ethiopia and in Bolivia and in
Indonesia and in Israel and Palestine has that same expectation. For
the first time in history, we're really living on a very, very tiny,
highly integrated planet, and we're all communicating with each
other. Everybody is listening to Democracy Now! all around the world.
We're all talking on the cell phone and by internet. We really get
it. We're a very, very small community, and we need to recognize
that.
AMY GOODMAN: John Perkins, you have an interesting theory about what
happened in Honduras, the coup that just took place there. What do you
think?
JOHN PERKINS: Well, I don't think it's a theory. You know, I think
it's-I was in Panama at the time that the coup took place. And,
you know, the democratic-
AMY GOODMAN: In June.
JOHN PERKINS: Yeah. The democratically elected president, Zelaya, had
called for a new constitution to replace the old one that was really
set up by the oligarchy in favor of the very, very, very wealthy and
the international companies. He also called for a 60 percent increase
in the bottom wage rate, which had a huge impact on Dole and Chiquita,
two of the biggest employers in that company. They, along with a
number of companies that have sweatshops in Honduras, strongly
objected, very much the same way that they had objected to Aristide in
Haiti, when he did something similar, and called in the military. The
general in charge of the military was a graduate of our School of the
Americas, this, you know, school that's famous for creating
dictators, and they overthrew Zelaya. It was a classic CIA-sponsored
type of coup, very similar to what United Fruit had done in Guatemala
in the early '50s. And, of course, United Fruit became Chiquita.
So you had this-you know, this strong relationship and got rid of
this democratically elected president, because he was drawing a line
in the sand. We had seen ten countries in Latin America bring in new
presidents who are instituting very significant reforms in favor of
the people, in favor of using local resources to help the people pull
themselves up by the bootstraps, and I think the corporatocracy
decided to draw a line in the sand in Honduras.
AMY GOODMAN: Iran and the swirling clouds?
JOHN PERKINS: You know, I think Iran today-Iran is this example of
where we went in and overthrew a democratically elected president,
Mosaddeq, in the early '50s, and we've seen terrible blowback from
that ever since. It's, you know, not only in Iran, but it impacted
the whole Middle East. If we had supported that president, who simply
wanted to use more of his oil money, his country's oil money, to
help the poor people-we strongly objected. We overthrew him in a
coup and replaced him with the Shah. So we've seen the blowback that
comes out of that. And this has led to this situation that we're in
today.
And the swirling clouds, to me, are the big corporations. So, in the
past, you had roughly 200 countries on the planet, which a few had a
lot of power-the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, the United
States. But today the geopolitics might better be envisioned as the
same roughly 200 countries with these huge swirling clouds that are
the big corporations. And they are really calling the shots all over
the planet. They know no national boundaries. They don't listen to
any specific set of laws. They strike deals with the Chinese and the
Taiwanese and the Tibetans and the Israelis and the Arab nations.
Whoever has the markets or the resources, they cut deal with-deals
with. And as we've seen in our most recent election here in the
United States, we bring in a president who is very diametrically
different from the former president, and yet the corporations are
still calling the shots.
Which takes us back, Amy, to the fact that we, the people, must create
the change. This has always been the case. And this is a clarion call
for us at this point now in history, that we must get out there.
We've got to get behind Obama and all the other politicians. We've
got to force the corporations to change their goal, get away from this
goal of maximizing profits regardless of social and environmental
costs, and instead say, "Yeah, it's OK. Make profits, but only
within a context of creating a sustainable, just and peaceful world,"
only within the context of creating a world that my grandson will want
to inherit, and that means every child on the planet will want to
inherit it, because I think it's really important that we understand
today we cannot have homeland security unless we understand that the
whole planet is our homeland. Our homeland is now no longer defined by
the Rio Grande and the Canadian border. It is-we are one-one human
species living on a very fragile planet.
AMY GOODMAN: What is the burden of the melting glaciers?
JOHN PERKINS: The melting-you know, I was in Tibet a couple of years
ago, and I stood there with these nomads and looked at this glacier
that had been down at the road a decade or so before, now it's way
back a mile away. And these glaciers up in the Himalayas feed the five
largest rivers in the world. They provide water to China and to India.
And as these glaciers melt, the water is drying up. The glaciers are
melting because of global warming, because of us. And what we have to
understand is the huge consequences. If these five rivers no longer
can feed water to the Chinese and the Indians, these people are going
to die of thirst. And before they die of thirst, they'll become very
rebellious.
We have to understand that one of the root causes of terrorism-I
don't even like the word "terrorism," because I don't think it
really is-it's a whole bunch of diverse groups all over the world.
But in every-practically every case, it results from starvation,
from desperation. I've met a lot of terrorists. I've interviewed
them for books. I've never met one who wanted to be a terrorist.
These are farmers who have been driven off their farmlands by oil
companies or hydroelectric projects, or they're fishermen, like the
Somali pirates, who can no longer make a living fishing, because their
waters have been fished dry or destroyed by nuclear waste from US
military vessels. I have not met anyone who wanted to be a terrorist.
They're desperate people. If we want to get rid of terrorism, we
must get rid of the root causes, that cancer that is destroying our
whole system.
AMY GOODMAN: The new rules you propose for business and
government?
JOHN PERKINS: Well, you know, we all know that getting rid of the
rules that protected us from another recession has helped to bring on
this current recession, you know, things like Glass-Steagall and the
banking laws and so forth. We need to implement a lot of those
again.
But I think we also need another whole new set of laws that says
businesses must be-look at being environmentally and socially
responsible. For a hundred years after United States became the United
States, no corporation was allowed to get a charter unless it could
prove that it served the public interest. And charters came up for
renewal every ten years or so. They didn't get a renewal unless they
could prove they served the public interest. That all changed with a
Supreme Court ruling that made corporations equivalent to individuals
in the late 1880s, and then John D. Rockefeller stepped in and really
took things-made things go out of hand.
But we need to go back to an understanding that corporations are there
to serve us. When I went to business school, I was taught that a good
CEO takes care of the long-term interests of the corporation-the
employees, the customers, the general economy-not just there to make
short-term profits. And we really need to get back to that, to an
understanding. I think we need laws and rules that say that
corporations must be aiming toward creating a sustainable and just and
peaceful world. We simply have to do that. These are our main
controlling organizations today, and they must be answerable to
what's best in the public interest, not just the interests of a few
very wealthy, powerful people.
AMY GOODMAN: John Perkins, self-confessed economic hit man, he's got

thousands of years: Dec. 21, 2012.
Across the United States, Canada and throughout Europe, apocalyptic
sects and individuals say that is the day that the world as we know it
will end, ABCnews.com reports.

Ancient Mayan societies, known for their advanced mathematics and
astronomy, followed a "long count" calendar that lasted
5,126 years. When their charts are translated to the Gregorian
calendar, the international standard used today, time runs out on Dec.
21, 2012.
Believers say there are other links besides just the Mayan calendar
that portend catastrophe. The sun will be aligned with the center of
the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years on the same
day, which marks the winter solstice. Some say that will disrupt the
energy flow to Earth, or that the high rate of sunspots or sun flares
that NASA has predicted for 2012 could affect Earth magnetic
fields.
Scientists have tried to squash the doomsday scenario as another empty
prophesy, but it's clear there are thousands who consider the
possibility of a worldwide catastrophe occurring on that date very
real.
"You have to understand, there will be nothing, nothing left,"
Patrick Geryl told ABC News. "We will have to start an entire
civilization from scratch." Geryl, a 53-year-old former
laboratory worker who lives in Belgium, quit his job two years ago
after he saved up enough money to last him until December 2012. He's
now stocking survival supplies, a list of which runs 11 pages
long.
Geryl is certainly not the only one. Searching for "2012 the
end of the world" on Google brings up nearly 700,000 hits. More
than 6,500 video posts about the day have been posted on YouTube.
There are also countless books on the topic, many published in the
wake of the success of Daniel Pinchbeck's "2012: The Return of
Quetzalcoatl," which has been selling thousands of copies each
month since it was released last May.
But what do believers think will happen on Dec. 21, 2012? Some say a
polar reversal, where the north pole becomes the south, where the sun
rises in the west, triggering natural disasters around the world.
Others say the date marks a worldwide spiritual awakening.
Experts laugh off these notions. "These prophecies of doom really
don't have any basis in what we know about the Maya," said
Stephen Houston, an anthropology professor at Brown University and an
expert in Maya hieroglyphic writing. "The Maya descriptions
barely talk about this event." He said the Mayans saw their
calendar coming to an end on the date, but then starting over without
any catastrophes.
"Really, it's a conversion of people's anxieties about our
times, and finding some remote mythological precedent or prediction of
it," he said. "People like to believe that ancient wisdom is
somehow predicting this time of upheaval."

Talking Dog For Sale
A guy is driving around the back woods of Montana and he sees a
sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For
Sale' He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is
in the backyard.
The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador
retriever sitting there.
'You talk?' he asks.
'Yep,' the Lab replies.
After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says
'So, what's your story?'
The Lab looks up and says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when
I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the
CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country,
sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured
a dog would be eavesdropping.'
'I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But
the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting
any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the
airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious
characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and
was awarded a batch of medals.' 'I got married, had a mess of
puppies, and now I'm just retired.'
The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he
wants for the dog.
'Ten dollars,' the guy says.
'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so
cheap?'
'Because he's a liar. He never did any of that shit.
