The Big Scoop Series #21: A Hell of a Lot Going On!
There is both an accumulation of black clouds on the immediate horizon - global food crises, economic meltdown, runaway climate change, impending peak oil cataclysm, and the never-ending Iraqi quagmire that could get far worst if the Cabal is able to pull its planned attack against Iran, not to mention the life-threatening effects of widespread electromagnetic pollution (make sure to read my comment in the item #12 below Mobile phones 'more dangerous than smoking') - and very positive signs that we are definitely not left alone to face this critical period in our global evolutionary ascent towards a new era of global Peace, Love and Harmony just behind the "curve", with lots of wonderful developments as more and more people/souls open up to the new song of Love rising from their hearts.

"When your spirit is battered and your energy is depleted, and you feel like you can't go on, you can go on. In fact you can surpass all you've ever done before and reach a new level of accomplishment. It is amazing what you can do when you know you must. It is incredible what you can accomplish when it means everything to you. But how could you ever be that passionate, and so totally committed that you would endure any difficulty in order to reach ever higher? That's a good question, and one that would be very much worth your time, your thought, your effort to answer. Somewhere in you is something you sincerely care about enough that you would transcend any obstacle in order to give it life. Somewhere in you is a burning passion ready to be ignited. You'll find clues in the things that make you happy, sad, angry, frustrated, joyful, serene, in the things that make you feel most alive. Pay heed to those stirrings, and listen to what they have to say. The power of passion is somewhere in your life. Let yourself know it and live it."
- Ralph Marston
"No doubt, if anger and frustration is what most motivates one to rise up and act, then I agree it is a good thing! However, anger is just not good enough. In addition to the action mode triggered by anger and the passive mode (due to indifference), we have a third option, that is being one with the all-compassing, all-loving and all-moving power itself! In this third mode, we are no longer the one who acts; we are surfers who ride on gigantic waves with momentum and forces that are hundreds and thousands more powerful than the power of anger or hatred. In Hindus belief system, human consciousness has three stages of evolution. It starts as tama (inertia), then moves on to raja (energy), and eventually as sattva (harmony and order). I think the humanity is at a critical junction where our civilization is painfully transitioning from a raja state into a sattva state. We either make it and hallelujah, or our very survival is on the stake. (...) History has taught us this again and again and again. Last thousands years of history is an endless cycle of one force overcoming anther force and turning into the very old force that it has just overcome. Then things started over again! In fact the Chinese history of a dozen some dynasties is a perfect example of this. Dont we look a bit like the guinea pig on the spinning wheel? To me, the lesson from this is that we need to actively take part in the evolution of human consciousness and rewire our brain so that we naturally react to things in a different way, the sattva way, the indomitable will to practice compassion no matter what. (...) The solution to the root cause of any conflicts calls for us to embark on a long-enduring journey that takes infinite persistence, courage and patience. Each of us is facing a choice of what to do. The tragedy we are experiencing today is not the first time in the history. The same kind of human tragedy is repeating itself over and over and over again, between different races, genders, social classes, religious groups, people with different beliefs... And it will keep repeating itself until we learn how to expand our human capacities beyond the current evolution stage to merge with the source of infinite love and compassion."
"When massive numbers of individuals are needlessly suffering and being exploited, when their health, well-being, and basic human rights no longer even appear on the agenda of those in power, what to do? What to do? First, I maintain, we must keep hope alive. In order for any change to ever come about, we must first believe that indeed, we can be effective, we will be effective, and that our very own actions - no matter how seemingly small - will yield positive, fruitful results. Second, we must become more courageous than we even believe we are capable of becoming. We must face our fears boldly, allowing our conscience to be our only guide. We must remember stories of brave and principled individuals throughout history who inspired us by their courage in taking whatever action was necessary to create a better world. These personal heroes must become our constant companions, our daily guides, the invisible encouraging, supportive presence on our shoulders that never leave us, continually showing us the way out of the darkness and into the light. Third, we must know with absolute certainty that, in the end, the collective work of massive numbers of good people does indeed triumph over the far smaller percentage of those who conspire to effect harm upon others. Simply by sheer virtue of the fact that the overwhelming majority of people are decent, loving human beings, we unquestionably have the advantage of strength and power of almost infinite numbers of compassionate, good-hearted people of conscience on our side. (...) The time is now upon us to stand up and boldly become the leaders this world so desperately needs. As the old saying goes, the world simply can not wait."

Protest Australia's Continued Ancient Forest Logging in the Face of Abrupt Climate Change http://www.climateark.org/alerts/send.asp?id=australia_tasmania_climate
Australia continues to industrially clear their last native ancient forests, even as their government promotes forest protection internationally to combat climate change. Australia's new government led by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has ratified Kyoto, appears genuinely committed to global climate change policy, and speaks often of how Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the world must protect primary forests to solve global climate change. Yet in an act of unseemly doublespeak, the country that is perhaps most impacted by climate change continues to log its last centuries old trees found in ancient forest ecosystems vital for holding both carbon and water. Why is forest protection a good idea internationally but not for Australia's much reduced and climate impacted natural habitats? Australia's new government must be called upon to stop their hypocrisy and end logging of their own old growth forests as a keystone response to climate change, biodiversity loss and ecosystem sustainability. TAKE ACTION NOW!
Wesak Festival on April 20 http://www.souledout.org/wesak/wesakfestival08/wesakfminvite.html
The Wesak Festival, second of the Three Major Planetary Spiritual Festivals, is celebrated globally at the time of the Taurus full moon. (...) The Wesak Festival is spiritually held to be the supreme moment in the annual cycle, when the Buddha and the Christ come together in this sacred ritual. At the pivotal moment of the full moon in Taurus, there is opportunity to share in the "high water-mark of spiritual blessing in the world." The Divine Truth we are focusing on during the moon cycle surrounding the Taurus, Wesak full moon is the Continuity of Revelation. Throughout this month, may we deepen our pursuit of this important truth, as it is further demonstrated and inevitably will be proved. This year, we are developing our Radiant Life theme further as we examine, one each lunar cycle, the Divine Truths of Deity ~ the basic truths commonly held by all the world's revealed religions. The Bush - Hitler Connection (Video: 9 min 50 sec) MUST WATCH! http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/263.html
The history is real! The parallels between Bush and Hitler are obvious and impossible to deny despite the whining of the right wing lunatic fringe (Fox News.) * Hitler engaged in intimidation and fraud to "win" elections * Hitler's office had an "open door" policy for any corporate criminal who was willing to support him financially * Hitler used fabricated evidence to justify attacking and occupying other countries * Hitler looted the wealth of other countries, German government resources and classes of German citizens to finance his operations. * Hitler manufactured terrorist threats and used these threats to rationalize the development of a police state including the loss of fundamental citizen rights and the build of a vast interment camps. And on and on it goes. There's a reason these similarities between Bush and Hitler that go far beyond the predictable patterns of human psychopathology... The Bush family had a long and deep involvement with the Nazi movement. Since then, the Bush family has surrounded itself with allies, advisors and agents who emulate Nazi values.

Zimbabwe High Court Takes Up Election Results (April 8) http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/040808H.shtml
Reuters reports: "Zimbabwe's High Court ruled on Tuesday it would treat the opposition's application for the immediate release of last month's presidential election results urgently and began hearing arguments in the case. Legal proceedings are already in their fourth day and could drag further, delaying the end of a 10-day stalemate that has dashed hopes of a quick answer as to whether President Robert Mugabe lost the March 29 vote or will face a runoff."
Mugabe militants target whites farmers (April 7) http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080407/ap_on_re_af/zimbabwe_elections;_ylt=AmFZbbl56CtULCyczob9MsQUewgF
HARARE, Zimbabwe - Militant supporters of President Robert Mugabe targeted whites Monday, forcing about a dozen ranchers and farmers off their land as Zimbabwe's longtime ruler fanned racial tensions amid fears he will turn to violence to hold on to power. Mugabe's opponents pressed a lawsuit seeking to compel the publication of results of the March 29 presidential election that they say Morgan Tsvangirai won. The opposition leader urged the international community to persuade Mugabe to step down. "Major powers here, such as South Africa, the U.S. and Britain, must act to remove the white-knuckle grip of Mugabe's suicidal reign and oblige him and his minions to retire," Tsvangirai wrote in Monday's edition of Britain's Guardian newspaper."How can global leaders espouse the values of democracy, yet when they are being challenged fail to open their mouths?" he asked. (...) The elite that still lives in luxury has a vested interest in keeping Mugabe in power. He makes them rich with gifts of land, government contracts and business licenses. Some also fear an opposition government could bring prosecutions of some Mugabe loyalists, such as security chiefs involved in the 1980s subjugation of the minority Ndebele tribe in which tens of thousands of civilians were killed. Tsvangirai has expressed concerns Mugabe's regime will mobilize the armed forces, youth brigades and war veterans to terrorize voters into supporting the president in a runoff. While government officials have sought to play down the worries about violence, Mugabe has been accused of winning previous elections through violence and intimidation, with dozens of his opponents killed during the 2002 and 2005 campaigns. Mugabe has seen his popularity battered by the economic crisis. Official results for parliamentary elections also held March 29 said Mugabe's ZANU-PF lost its majority in the 210-seat parliament for the first time since independence in 1980. Final results for the 60 elected seats in the Senate gave the ruling party and the opposition 30 each. Unofficial tallies by independent monitors of presidential results posted at local polling stations indicate Tsvangirai won more votes than Mugabe but fewer than the 50 percent plus one vote needed to avoid a runoff. The law requires a runoff within 21 days of the election, but diplomats in Harare and at the United Nations have said Mugabe might order a 90-day delay to give security forces time to clamp down. Zimbabwe opposition reluctant on runoff (04/05/2008) http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080405/ap_on_re_af/zimbabwe_elections;_ylt=AshWO1SlxjYlX5oS0zYY3YZg.3QA
HARARE, Zimbabwe - Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai called Saturday on President Robert Mugabe to step down and accused the country's longtime ruler of plotting a campaign of violence to bolster his chances of winning an expected runoff. Amid increasing signs of a government crackdown, armed police barred opposition officials from filing a suit demanding the publication of the results from the March 29 presidential election. The opposition promised to try again Sunday."Mugabe must accept that the country needs to move forward. He cannot hold the country to ransom. He is the problem not the solution," said Tsvangirai, head of the Movement for Democratic Change. He accused the ruling ZANU-PF party of "preparing a war against the people," and said a runoff was unnecessary because he had won the presidential election outright. "In the runoff, violence will be the weapon. It is therefore unfair and unreasonable for President Mugabe to call a runoff," he said, accusing Mugabe of mobilizing armed militias. Tsvangirai's party claims he won 50.3 percent of the vote, but independent projections have shown that he won the most votes but not the 50 percent plus one needed for an outright victory. CLIP
Robert Mugabe 'unlikely to flee Zimbabwe' (04/04/2008) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/02/wzim502.xml
Robert Mugabe is unlikely to flee from Zimbabwe for fear of being prosecuted for war crimes, the head of the African programme at Chatham House, the foreign affairs think tank, has said. The President, who is facing the possible end of 28 years in power, is likely to see out his days in luxury after a dignified exit, Alex Vines said. The Movement for Democratic Change, led by Morgan Tsvangirai, was unlikely to push for Mr Mugabe to be prosecuted, instead opting to allow him to leave peacefully in exchange for a smooth transition of power, he added."Mr Mugabe would be looking for a dignified exit strategy, he sees himself as the father of the nation, the liberation leader," Mr Vines said. "I would expect him to stay in the country for the time being."The President has reportedly said he feared being tried for war crimes committed during his rule. If the 84-year-old did leave Zimbabwe, he would be unlikely to move to another African state, instead heading for Malaysia, where he is thought to have stashed much of his wealth.
Did you know that by law the US guarantees Israel's oil supply - no matter what? http://www.wakeupfromyourslumber.com/node/4504
...even if it causes US a DOMESTIC SHORTAGE??? I didn't. Under a 1975 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) the USA guaranteed all Israel's oil needs in the event of a crisis. This Memorandum of Understanding is quietly renewed every five years. It commits U.S. taxpayers to maintain a strategic U.S. reserve for Israel, equivalent to $3 billion in 2002 dollars. Special legislation was enacted to exempt Israel from restrictions on oil exports from the USA. Moreover, the U.S. government agreed to divert oil from the USA, even if this causes domestic shortages. The U.S. government also guaranteed delivery of oil in U.S. tankers if commercial shippers become unable or unwilling to carry oil from the USA to Israel. CLIP
UN Expert On Israel/Palestine Stands By Nazi Comparison (April 8, 2008) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7335875.stm
The next UN investigator into Israeli conduct in the occupied territories has stood by comments comparing Israeli actions in Gaza to those of the Nazis. Speaking to the BBC, Professor Richard Falk said he believed that up to now Israel had been successful in avoiding the criticism that it was due. Professor Falk is scheduled to take up his post for the UN Human Rights Council later in the year. But Israel wants his mandate changed to probe Palestinian actions as well. Professor Falk said he drew the comparison between the treatment of Palestinians with the Nazi record of collective atrocity, because of what he described as the massive Israeli punishment directed at the entire population of Gaza. He said he understood that it was a provocative thing to say, but at the time, last summer, he had wanted to shake the American public from its torpor. If this kind of situation had existed for instance in the manner in which China was dealing with Tibet or the Sudanese government was dealing with Darfur, I think there would be no reluctance to make that comparison, he said. That reluctance was, he argued, based on the particular historical sensitivity of the Jewish people, and Israels ability to avoid having their policies held up to international law and morality. These and other comments from Professor Falk comments are, if anything, even harsher than the current UN investigator, John Dugard, who himself has been withering about Israels actions. A spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry said that Israel wanted the UN investigators mandate changed, so that he could look into human rights violations by the Palestinians as well as Israel. If that were not to happen, the Israeli government may consider barring entry to the new UN investigator.
Gazans' Latest Crisis: Fuel Cuts http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/040808F.shtml
The Associated Press reports: "Israel has restricted fuel supplies since September to pressure Palestinian militants into halting rocket fire at neighboring Israeli communities, but with no apparent results. 'We are like street dogs looking for bones,' said Abdul Ghani, a 44-year-old taxi driver, smoking by his car at a gas station in the northern Gazan town of Jebaliya. Around 200 cars, taxis, delivery trucks and farm machinery vehicles were parked there, waiting for the gas station to distribute rationed supplies."
Israeli Snipers Killing U.S. Troops in Iraq? (November 10, 2006) http://joannafrancis.wordpress.com/2006/11/10/israeli-snipers-killing-us-troops-in-iraq/
Anderson Cooper of CNN showed this video (without the rifle info) of snipers killing U.S. troops in Iraq on his October 18, 2006 show. CNN says it obtained the video from a representative of an unnamed insurgent leader. Bear in mind that Anderson Cooper used to work for the CIA. Richard Wilsons hypothesis: Israeli soldiers and/or Mossad agents are killing our soldiers in Iraq in order to enrage American troops so that the slaughter continues. Proof: At the very beginning of this video clip, you see a rifle with a video camera attached to it. This weapon is made by the Rafael company, an Israeli arms manufacturer, that also makes IEDs. If you watch the video all the way through, it explains how this rifle works. CNN stated that the camera used to film these shootings was not a mounted rifle camera. But as you watch the video, you see that with each shot fired, the camera recoils. That would only happen if it were mounted on the rifle. Why is this significant? Because this kind of rifle-camera is extremely sophisticated and not available to your average Iraqi insurgent. I mean, its not exactly an easily obtainable Saturday night special! Something this sophisticated points to Mossad. Mossad is a master at false flag operations, e.g., Oklahoma City, the attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, the bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, the July 7, 2005 London bombings, the 9-11 attacks in New York, the assassination of the Prime Minister in Beirut, the stoking of Muslim riots in France last year, the bombing of the Hassan al-Askari Mosque in Samarra, Iraq, etc. Israelis freely move among US and UK troops in Iraq, and have access to top-level US intelligence. Until July 2003, the head of all US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan was General Tommy Franks, a Zionist Jew. (He is now on the board of directors for Bank of America.) On November 7, 2006 another Zionist Jew became a principle liaison between Mossad and US forces in Iraq: Major General Richard F. Natonski of the Marine Corps. His title is Deputy Commandant for Plans, Policies and Operations. Because of this access, the insurgents (i.e., Mossad agents) know exactly where US vehicles will be and who will be inside them. This allows them to target for maximum false flag effect. CLIP

Jim Rogers says "Abolish the FED" on CNBC 2008.03.12 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6046520409389956642&hl=en
Recommended by Dr Mercola who wrote: "Everyone keeps asking, Are we in a recession? but few actually state the answer. The media and our U.S. leaders just keep dancing around the issue. But look at the facts: the last year home prices fell the way they are today was 1941 -- the year the United States entered World War II. Unscrupulous, predatory lenders and the creation of the subprime market have created a downward spiral that threatens to swallow many Americans whole. Entire U.S. cities are being devastated by the predatory lending practices facilitated by Wall Street. It is no longer just inner cities or low-income families being affected. Everyone, from the poor to the wealthy, is being hit by this crisis. Many U.S. economists are convinced that a recession is inevitable, as the mortgage crisis is FAR from having peaked. In fact, it is still in its infancy. And in this interview, Jim Rogers, the CEO of Rogers Holdings, explains how current government policies will cause even greater inflation and a massive recession."
International Financial Conspiracy Driving World Events? (March 27, 2008) http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=8450
Was Alan Greenspan really as dumb as he looks in creating the late housing bubble that threatens to bring the entire Western debt-based economy crashing down? Was something as easy to foresee as this really the trigger for a meltdown that could destroy the world's financial system? Or was it done, perhaps, "accidentally on purpose"? And if so, why? Let's turn to the U.S. personage that conspiracy theorists most often mention as being at the epicenter of whatever elite plan is reputed to exist. This would be David Rockefeller, the 92-year-old multibillionaire godfather of the world's financial elite. (...) Since the 1980s the U.S. has been fighting wars throughout the world either directly or by proxy. The former Yugoslavia was dismembered by NATO. Under cover of 9/11 and by utilizing off-the-shelf plans, the U.S. is now engaged in the military conquest and permanent military occupation of the Middle East. A worldwide encirclement of Russia and China by U.S. and NATO forces is underway, and a new push to militarize space has begun. The Western powers are clearly preparing for at least the possibility of another world war. The expansion of the U.S. military empire abroad is mirrored by the creation of a totalitarian system of surveillance at home, whereby the activities of private citizens are spied upon and tracked by technology and systems which have been put into place under the heading of the "War on Terror." Human microchip implants for tracking purposes are starting to be used. The military-industrial complex has become the nation's largest and most successful industry with tens of thousands of planners engaged in devising new and better ways, both overt and covert, to destroy both foreign and domestic "enemies." Meanwhile, the U.S. has the largest prison population of any country on earth. Plus everyday life for millions of people is a crushing burden of government, insurance, and financial fees, charges, and paperwork. And the simplest business transactions are burdened by rake-offs for legions of accountants, lawyers, bureaucrats, brokers, speculators, and middlemen. Finally, the deteriorating conditions of everyday life have given rise to an extraordinary level of stress-related disease, as well as epidemic alcohol and drug addiction. Governments themselves around the world engage in drug trafficking. Instead of working to lower stress levels, public policy is skewed in favor of an enormous prescription drug industry that grows rich off the declining level of health through treatment of symptoms rather than causes. Many of these heavily-advertised medications themselves have devastating side-effects. This list should at least give us enough to go on in order to ask a hard question. Assuming again that all these things are parts of the elitist plan which Mr. Rockefeller boasts to have been developing, isn't it a little strange that the means which have been selected to achieve "peace and prosperity for the whole of humanity" involve so much violence, deception, oppression, exploitation, graft, and theft? In fact it looks to me as though "our plan for the world" is one that is based on genocide, world war, police control of populations, and seizure of the world's resources by the financial elite and their puppet politicians and military forces. NAFTA Countries to Introduce Simultaneous Legislation to Stop SPP (April 3, 2008) http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_dana_gab_080402_nafta_countries_to_i.htm
Elected representatives from Canada, the U.S., and Mexico have agreed to a plan to introduce simultaneous legislation in an effort to stop the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) of North America. This cross border cooperation will go a long way in further exposing the North American Union agenda. In addition, legislators have agreed to launch a Task Force to renegotiate NAFTA that will be chaired by NDP Trade Critic Peter Julian. It also includes U.S. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio), the Honourable Yeidckol Polevnsky (Senator of Mexico State and Vice-president of the Mexican Senate) and the Honourable Victor Quintana (Deputy of the State Chihuahua, Mexico). This is all in an effort to overhaul NAFTA and make it a more fair trade deal. Julian will also be working with Kaptur and Mike Michaud (D-ME) to try and defeat the Colombia Free Trade Agreement. SPP Stripping Canadian Rights! April 5/08 http://www.galacticfriends.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3043&Itemid=91
Introductory Comment by Connie Fogal, leader, CAP/PAC - The REAL ID practice is coming to birth in various Canadian provinces as a result of federal and provincial commitment to a North American integration under provincial buy in to the 2001 Smart Border Declaration and the 2005 Security and Prosperity Partnership Agreement. The new liberty stripping identification is being slipped into Canadian drivers' licenses incrementally in various provinces without a peep of dissent from media or any provincial or federal opposition parties. The best the NDP and the Greens have mustered to date in opposition to the integration of North America is to work for renegotiation on NAFTA (a useless and deceptive action). They are totally silent on the police state apparatus coming into effect (of which biometric identifiers in drivers' licenses is one part). They are silent on the attack on Canadian liberty by our antiterrorist act, and they refuse to acknowledge the deliberate stifling of dissent by that act,and they refuse to expose the real role of the September 11, 2001 explosions in three New York buildings one of which was never hit by a plane as being the justification for the deliberate ultimate elimination of free citizenry under a police state apparatus. Homeland Security blinks on Real ID: No hassles on May 11 (April 2, 2008) http://www.news.com/8301-13578_3-9909928-38.html?tag=nefd.lede
This map, updated earlier Wednesday by Homeland Security, shows all states as green--meaning no new air travel or federal building hassles on May 11. Current hassles will continue. The next deadline is December 31, 2009.WASHINGTON--In the long-running Real ID staring match, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security ended up being the first to blink. Homeland Security announced Wednesday that all 50 states and the District of Columbia will be technically Real ID-compliant by the May 11, 2008 deadline--even though many states actually have rejected the concept and have zero plans to embrace a national ID card. This means Americans will face no new hassles when using their drivers licenses to enter federal buildings or fly on airplanes starting on May 11. That's a good thing. But the way this turned out is so odd it's worth repeating. States including New Hampshire, Maine, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Washington, and Montana have enacted laws saying "hell no we'll never comply with Real ID." And Homeland Security officials carefully ignored those public votes of condemnation, instead pretending that those states really intend to acquiesce by the next major deadline of December 31, 2009. Inside the Black Budget http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/040108F.shtml
Writing for The New York Times, William J. Broad reports on a new book "behind the Pentagon's classified, or 'black,' budget that delivers billions of dollars to stealthy armies of high-tech warriors. The book offers a glimpse of this dark world through a revealing lens - patches - the kind worn on military uniforms."
Underground Bases and Tunnels (with many amazing pictures!) http://www.projectcamelot.org/underground_bases.html
This is a $13 million tunnel boring machine (TBM) used for tunneling at the Nevada Test Site. (Remember that Area 51 is part of the test site.) Many other types of TBMs are used by many government agencies, including the 'nuclear powered TBM' [NTBM] that melts solid rock and leaves behind glass-like walls. Most tunneling activity is under military installations and all information is highly restricted. Former employees of said facilities have surfaced over the years to talk of massive underground installations in places like Area 51, the Northrop facility in Antelope Valley, California (rumored to have 42 levels), and the Lockheed installation near Edwards, California. The 'Black Budget' currently consumes $1.25 trillion per year. At least this amount is used in black programs, like those concerned with deep underground military bases. Presently, there are 129 deep underground military bases in the United States. They have been building these 129 bases day and night, unceasingly, since the early 1940's. Some of them were built even earlier than that. These bases are basically large cities underground connected by high-speed magneto-leviton trains that have speeds up to Mach 2. Several books have been written about this activity. The average depth of these bases is over a mile, and they again are basically whole cities underground. They all are between 2.66 and 4.25 cubic miles in size. They have laser-drilling machines that can drill a tunnel seven miles long in one day. I was involved in building an addition to the deep underground military base at Dulce, which is probably the deepest base. It goes down seven levels and over 2.5 miles deep. I helped hollow out more than 13 deep underground military bases in the United States. (...) Most of them are in areas away from geotectonic areas - but there's going to be lots of new geotectonic faults established when you have force 11, 12, 13, 14 earthquakes hit the Earth. Why are they rushing to do this? Because they know that catastrophe is coming. And where's this money coming from? It's not coming from our regular Black Op budget. It's coming from the illegal sale of drugs. In the United States there's at least, by conservative estimates, a quarter of a trillion to a half a trillion of illegal drugs just sold in the United States that goes directly into underground budgets, and 90-95% goes to the DUMBs [Deep Underground Military Bases]. Some of this information is far outside of consensus reality, yet I have lots of evidence to back up my conclusions. Gore campaign team assembles in secret http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/04/22/wgore22.xml
Friends of Al Gore have secretly started assembling a campaign team in preparation for the former American vice-president to make a fresh bid for the White House. Two members of Mr Gore's staff from his unsuccessful attempt in 2000 say they have been approached to see if they would be available to work with him again. Mr Gore, President Bill Clinton's deputy, has said he wants to concentrate on publicising the need to combat climate change, a case made in his film, An Inconvenient Truth, which won him an Oscar this year. But, aware that he may step into the wide open race for the White House, former strategists are sounding out a shadow team that could run his campaign at short notice. In approaching former campaign staff, including political strategists and communications officials, they are making clear they are not acting on formal instructions from Mr Gore, 59, but have not been asked to stop. His denials of interest in the presidency have been couched in terms of "no plans" or "no intention" - politically ambiguous language that does not rule out a run. One of his former campaign team said: "I was asked whether I would be available towards the end of the year if I am needed. They know he has not ruled out running and if he decides to jump in, he will have to move very fast. CLIP

Real alternative energy: War, energy, veterans and bio-diesel http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/297.html
Is there an alternative to petroleum? Here's one possibility: Bio-diesel. The raw material - used cooking grease - is currently being wasted.BioLiberty.Net, a group of Gulf War veterans, is developing a production system that converts grease to a fuel. One of the uses of the fuel is to help clear the lots of poor, elderly and handicapped land owners in New Orleans who are unable to clear them themselves and are having their land seized by the city under the new "Good Neighbor" Law. -- It starts a little slow - there's a speaker in the beginning who introduces it - and then it gets VERY interesting. The video is about US war veterans who are creating alternative energy and new building methods to rebuild New Orleans. The government may be evil to the core, but the resourcefulness of good people goes on..and on...and on. This one will give you hope.
Some homes worth less than their copper pipes (April 1, 2008) http://real-us.news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080401/lf_nm/usa_housing_metal_dc_3
BROCKTON, Massachusetts (Reuters) - Shards of broken glass outside the basement window of 31 Vine Street hint at the destruction inside the three-story home.Thieves smashed the window to break in and then gutted the property for its copper pipes -- a crime that has spread across the United States as the economy slows and foreclosed homes stand empty and vulnerable. "They cut it here and then pulled it right out of the wall," real estate broker Marc Charney said, pointing to broken plaster near a wrecked baseboard heating system in the 2,774-sq-ft home in Brockton, Massachusetts, a working-class city of 94,304 people. Similar stories are unfolding nationwide as a glut of home foreclosures coincides with record highs in the price of copper and other metals. Real estate brokers and local authorities say once-proud homes coast-to-coast are being stripped for copper, aluminum, and brass by thieves. Much of it ends up with scrap metal traders who say nearly all copper gets shipped overseas, much of it to China and India. In areas hit hardest by foreclosures, such as the Slavic Village neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, copper and other metals used in plumbing, heating systems and telephone lines are now more valuable than some homes."We're in an incredibly unfortunate time where the nonferrous metals commodities market for scrap is at an all-time high. Houses are getting stripped pretty quickly once they go through the foreclosure process," Cleveland city councilor Tony Brancatelli said. CLIP
Truckers Protest, the Resistance Begins http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/040808M.shtml
Barbara Ehrenreich writes for Barbaraehrenreich.com: "Until the beginning of this month, Americans seemed to have nothing to say about their ongoing economic ruin except, 'Hit me! Please, hit me again!'... Then, on April 1, in a wave of defiance, truck drivers began taking the strongest form of action they can take - inaction. Faced with $4/gallon diesel fuel, they slowed down, shut down and started honking. On the New Jersey Turnpike, a convoy of trucks stretching 'as far as the eye can see,' according to a turnpike spokesman, drove at a glacial 20 mph. Outside of Chicago, they slowed and drove three abreast, blocking traffic and taking arrests. They jammed into Harrisburg PA; they slowed down the Port of Tampa where 50 rigs sat idle in protest. Near Buffalo, one driver told the press he was taking the week off 'to pray for the economy.'"

(...) The Coming September 2008 Market Crash? - All the signs of a Fall crash are sitting in the mix right now. Weak Banking institutions, weak and anemic economic forecasting, weak job data, frustration with the war in Iraq. Total mis-trust of the US Mortgage system after they deliberately peddled a pile of junk Mortgages as Triple AAA bonds - all point to a large correction this fall. The Feds were well aware of this, and only and ever move to protect their system. (...) Thus if someone wants to truly bring the US government to accountability they only need write a piece of software, and then get people using it. It would work like freecycle, but would be decentralized (and uncontrollable) - but it would also enable 'inter-transactions' where the `torrent transactions of trade' could be cross referenced and surfed. The Final Straw. If this 'virtual transaction commodity system' created and maintained on the internet could ever develop a system of storing wealth (virtual accounts) - it would easily and quickly supplant and replace most currencies around the world - and because of its decentralized design no one individual could control or harness it. The Central Banks would have to move to shut down the entire internet in order to regain control of their favorite pet currency that they like to peddle to the masses, and they probably would.
US set to spend $50bn against HIV (3 April 2008) COMING BONANZA FOR THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7327694.stm
The US House of Representatives has passed a bill to more than triple government spending in Africa and other badly affected parts of the world. The bipartisan measure, which is backed by the White House, was passed by 308 votes to 116. The bill marks a huge increase from the $15bn authorised during the first five years of an initiative launched by President Bush in 2003."There is a moral imperative to combat this epidemic," said Nancy Pelosi, the House's Democratic speaker. The initiative would be the largest US investment ever against a single disease. Last May, Mr Bush asked Congress to set aside $30bn for the plan, aimed at providing treatment for 2.5 million people and preventing more than 12 million new infections. The programme currently supports life-saving treatment for nearly 1.5 million people, the White House said. Initially focused on Vietnam, Guyana, Haiti and 12 African nations, the programme will be expanded to include Malawi, Swaziland and Lesotho as well as some Caribbean nations. Opponents of the bill argued that it was too expensive, and that more pressing needs closer to home needed to be addressed. The UN estimates that two-thirds of the 33 million people infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) - the virus that causes Aids - live in sub-Saharan Africa. HIV/Aids around the world
Doing It Right - How that new African AIDS money should be spent (January 30, 2003) http://www.nationalreview.com/dreher/dreher013003.asp
President Bush's bold new $15 billion AIDS initiative targeting Africa and the Caribbean debuted to positive reviews from most corners. And why not? Africa has been devastated by the AIDS pandemic, with the poorest nations on the planet, the ones least able to fight the disease and care for its victims, being the countries hardest hit by the plague. Anyone with a decent heart will commend the president of the world's wealthiest nation for tripling its funding to help these desperate people. And yet, there is serious reason to worry that the plan could turn into a vast boondoggle that could enrich corrupt African governments and the international AIDS establishment, while providing far too few effective measures to fight HIV infection. So say a group of AIDS experts who contend that international AIDS-fighting strategies in Africa have not succeeded because of political correctness and anti-scientific prejudice on the part of Western AIDS professionals. (...) This $15 billion will be a gold mine for drug companies, donor organizations, and others who stand to profit by peddling AIDS-prevention efforts that have not worked, and will not work. The first and only priority of this new program should be helping sick and suffering Africans, and stopping the epidemic. When Congress begins the appropriations process, it cannot let do-good sentimentality and blind trust of experts guide its decisions. This is not a matter of the "Religious Right" dictating AIDS policy (none of the professionals quoted in this article are religious conservatives, and all support the distribution of condoms, when effective). This is about doing right by the U.S. taxpayer, and more importantly, saving the lives of the poorest of the poor. Before Congress gives a farthing for the Bush plan, it should call Stoneburner, Green, Martin, and others to testify to what they know about Uganda, and why so few in the AIDS establishment want to hear it.

AIDS in Africa - In Search of the Truth http://www.whatisaids.com/rollingstone.htm
(...) Look, I believe that AIDS exists and it's killing Africans. But as many as all the experts tell us? Hard to say. In my suburb, I can assure you, people's brains are so addled by death propaganda that we automatically assume almost everyone who falls seriously ill or dies has AIDS, especially if they're poor and black. But we don't really know for sure, and nor do the sufferers themselves, because hardly anyone has been tested. "What's the point?" asks Laston, the ailing gardener. He knows there's no cure for AIDS, and no hope of obtaining life-extending anti-retrovirals. Last winter, he came down with a bad cough, and everyone said it was AIDS, but it wasn't - come summer, Laston got better. (...) No, said I, it's the actual number of registered deaths last year."We don't really know," he replied. "Things are moving very fast. What is the total number of people who actually die? For all we know, it could be much higher. HIV has never existed in mankind before, and there's no anchor point set in stone." The UNAIDS numbers are, after all, only estimates. We are not saying this is the number. We are saying this is our best estimate. Ten years from now, we won't have these problems. Ten years from now, we'll know everything."Ten years! Had I known, I could have saved myself a lot of grief. For even as I tried to track down the old numbers, bigger new ones were supplanting them - 17 million Africans dead of AIDS and 25 million more with HIV, UNAIDS now estimates; not one in five South African adults infected but one in four. Are these numbers right? Who knows.
Evidence Supports Reverend Wright's Claim That AIDS Was Created By The Government (March 31st, 2008) http://justanothercoverup.com/?p=432
Millions of Americans have been presented with a video of Senator Obama's Pastor when he angrily stated "God Damn America" and alleged that AIDS was a man-made disease aimed at blacks in Africa and the United States. Reverend Wright was promptly branded as a conspiracy nut and radical - but now it appears that he might have been half-right in his belief that AIDS was man-made, although evidence now suggests it wasn't made to target blacks, but instead, a much worse threat (sic) to America - the growing gay community: HIV-AIDS was created with the use of Gay men as targets for Eugenic experiments suggests U.S. doctor by Alan Cantwell, M.D Mon 31. Mar 2008 There is no doubt that AIDS erupted in the U.S. shortly after government-sponsored hepatitis B vaccine experiments (1978-1981) using gay men as guinea pigs. The epidemic was caused by the "introduction" of a new retrovirus (the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV for short); and the introduction of a new herpes-8 virus, the virus that causes Kaposi's sarcoma, widely known as the "gay cancer" of AIDS. The taboo theory that AIDS is a man-made disease is largely based on research showing an intimate connection between government vaccine experiments and the outbreak of "the gay plague." CLIP

The Age of Autism: 'A pretty big secret' http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/article.asp?ID=8376
CHICAGO, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- It's a far piece from the horse-and-buggies of Lancaster County, Pa., to the cars and freeways of Cook County, Ill.But thousands of children cared for by Homefirst Health Services in metropolitan Chicago have at least two things in common with thousands of Amish children in rural Lancaster: They have never been vaccinated. And they don't have autism. "We have a fairly large practice. We have about 30,000 or 35,000 children that we've taken care of over the years, and I don't think we have a single case of autism in children delivered by us who never received vaccines," said Dr. Mayer Eisenstein, Homefirst's medical director who founded the practice in 1973. Homefirst doctors have delivered more than 15,000 babies at home, and thousands of them have never been vaccinated. The few autistic children Homefirst sees were vaccinated before their families became patients, Eisenstein said. "I can think of two or three autistic children who we've delivered their mother's next baby, and we aren't really totally taking care of that child -- they have special care needs. But they bring the younger children to us. I don't have a single case that I can think of that wasn't vaccinated." The autism rate in Illinois public schools is 38 per 10,000, according to state Education Department data; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention puts the national rate of autism spectrum disorders at 1 in 166 -- 60 per 10,000. (...) Thimerosal, which is 49.6 percent ethyl mercury by weight, was phased out of most U.S. childhood immunizations beginning in 1999, but the CDC recommends flu shots for pregnant women and last year began recommending them for children 6 to 23 months old. Most of those shots contain thimerosal. Thimerosal-preserved vaccines are currently being injected into millions of children in developing countries around the world. "My mandate ... is to make sure at the end of the day that 100,000,000 are immunized ... this year, next year and for many years to come ... and that will have to be with thimerosal-containing vaccines," said John Clements of the World Health Organization at a June 2000 meeting called by the CDC. That meeting was held to review data that thimerosal might be linked with autism and other neurological problems. But in 2004 the Institute of Medicine panel said evidence against a link is so strong that health authorities, "whether in the United States or other countries, should not include autism as a potential risk" when formulating immunization policies. But where is the simple, straightforward study of autism in never-vaccinated U.S. children? Based on our admittedly anecdotal and limited reporting among the Amish, the home-schooled and now Chicago's Homefirst, that may prove to be a significant omission.
Hydrogen Power to and for the People (March 29, 2008) http://sqntoday.wordpress.com/2008/03/29/hydrogen-power-to-and-for-the-people/
A new day is dawning for a revolutionary way to generate electric power from renewable energy sources. Imagine a future where the electrical power needed to run your computer, TV and DVD is generated from a small appliance about the size of a dishwasher located in your home. Envision generating electricity without combustion, and producing heat and pure drinking water as by-products.Picture a world powered almost entirely by an infinitely abundant and totally clean fuel. Hydrogen, the most common element in the universe, is that fuel, which can be produced from tap water to generate power for homes and cars. Imagine being able to drive your car more than 500 miles between fill-ups. The car you drive could become a power station on wheels producing about 30 to 50 kilowatts of electricity. At work the parked car in the parking lot could be making money for you by supplying energy to the power grid during peak hours. The same fuel cells in the car parked in your garage could provide power for your home use.In the new age of hydrogen, each individual could become the producer as well as the consumer of energy. Automobile, oil, and utility companies are spending billions to make this dream come true. CLIP

The internet could soon be made obsolete by a new "grid" system which is 10,000 times faster than broadband connections. Web could collapse as video demand soars - Scientists in Switzerland have developed a lightning-fast replacement to the internet that would allow feature films and music catalogues to be downloaded within seconds. The invention could signal the end of the dreaded 'frozen screen', when computers seize up after being asked to process too much information. The latest spin-off from Cern, the particle physics centre that created the internet, the grid could also provide the power needed to send sophisticated images; allow instant online gaming with hundreds of thousands of players; and offer high-definition video telephony for the price of a local call.David Britton, professor of physics at Glasgow University and a leading figure in the grid project, believes grid technology could change society. He said: "With this kind of computing power, future generations will have the ability to collaborate and communicate in ways older people like me cannot even imagine."The power of the grid will be unlocked this summer with the switching on of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a new particle accelerator designed to investigate how the universe began. The grid will be turned on at the same time to store the information it generates, after scientists at Cern, based near Geneva, realised the internet would not have the capacity to capture such huge volumes of data. The grid has been built with fibre optic cables and modern routing centres, meaning there are no outdated components to slow the deluge of data, unlike the internet. There are 55,000 grid servers already installed, a figure which is expected to rise to 200,000 within the next two years.Professor Tony Doyle, technical director of the grid project, said: "We need so much processing power, there would even be an issue about getting enough electricity to run the computers if they were all at Cern." The only answer was a new network powerful enough to send the data instantly to research centres in other countries. Britain has 8,000 servers on the grid system, meaning access could be available to universities as early as this autumn.
Norway Becomes First Country to Ban Amalgam Fillings (April 04, 2008) http://www.naturalnews.com/022943.html
Effective January 1st of this year, Norway has become the first nation to legislate a sweeping ban on the use of amalgam fillings in dental work. Previous laws forbid the use of mercury-containing fillings in more vulnerable segments of the population, such as pregnant women and children, but the new law is the first to forbid the use of the toxic metal without exemption. Mercury has also been banned from all other products produced, imported, exported, sold, and used in the country. In a prepared statement, Norway's Minister of Environment and Development, Erik Solheim stated that "Mercury is among the most dangerous environmental toxins. Satisfactory alternatives to mercury in products are available, and it is therefore fitting to introduce a ban." Sweden has followed suit with a ban on mercury fillings effective April 1st, 2008, and other countries are now contemplating similar moves. Amalgam fillings, which unbeknownst to many are composed primarily of mercury, raise the level of mercury circulating in the blood. Mercury is listed as one of the most toxic substances on earth and many who are sensitive to the substance have reported improvements in health upon removal of the toxic fillings. The Norwegian and Swedish bans come at a time when alternative composite fillings have become strong enough to replace amalgams under practically any circumstance. CLIP

Two documentaries about the future of our food: How multinational corporations are poisoning us and the environment http://www.chycho.com/?q=node/1665
The Future of Food offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade. From the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada to the fields of Oaxaca, Mexico, this film gives a voice to farmers whose lives and livelihoods have been negatively impacted by this new technology. The health implications, government policies and push towards globalization are all part of the reason why many people are alarmed about the introduction of genetically altered crops into our food supply

I was totally immersed in work this morning, when a certain lady - who has apparently been following our recent dialogue in the Newsletter, murmured a few words that I thought you and your readers might like to share. . .
Our love and thanks to all you brave soldiers, stranded in the front lines. There's a reason for this: the longer you're left to your own devices, the more likely it is that YOU'll come up with the required strategies and solutions, rather than waiting for 'HQ', as you call it, to make their moves.
You recently said to Peter, "Maybe the planetary Council have gone off on vacation - and all the people around the world who have been working their butts off for the planet and the future of mankind are the new Planetary Council. . . so it's up to us now."
Right on, Michael - in the absence of the field commanders you've always looked up to and consulted [they're not on vacation, by the way - there's a lot going on at the moment!] you're ALL now honorary members of the planetary Council.
You don't need any warrant or sanction from anyone to do what you're doing: the current situation on Earth gives you all the authorisation you need, to create an entirely new plan or template for life in a physical world.
Note from Jean: A couple days ago the following material has come to my attention...
War games prelude to something big? http://www.gulfnews.com/region/Middle_East/10203716.html
Israeli Minister of Defence Ehud Barak announced on Sunday that Israel started the biggest military and civil drills in its history, that would include unconventional weapons, in what military analysts believe is a prelude for something "big".
Hizbullah: IDF preparing for new war http://tinyurl.com/5suapu
"These drills are part of preparations for war because Israel is always in a warlike situation," Kassem told a rally south of Beirut. "These maneuvers are part of preparations for something in the future - probably it could be far off - but it is a preparation for war."
... and I shared it with Suzy and asked if Matthew would like to tell us his perspective on this situation and perhaps confirm if we need to ask for our space family's direct intervention to prevent this."
Matthew sent what I feel is the clearest, most succinct and eloquent message I've seen on these matters. It encompasses many subjects that readers of Matthew's material are now familiar with and helps bring a great measure of reassurance that between our space family's assistance on and off-planet and our own efforts, there is nothing to fear.
Here is his message dated April 2, 2008
Dear soul Jean,
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak about the reports that do indeed sound dire until you put them into the context of the far more significant powers that are influencing events in your world.
There are a number of essential factors, starting with Creator's decree that there will be no more nuclear wars anywhere in the cosmos because of the severe damage those have done to some souls not to bodies, which are temporary housing for a soul's individual physical lifetimes, but to the souls, the total essence of the god-goddess selves you are. Creator made this one exception to Its law that every soul's free will choice must be honored: Any persons who attempt to wage a nuclear war will be stopped. Acting on Creator's decree, God authorized spiritually, intellectually and technologically evolved civilizations in this universe to prevent all attempts to initiate such a war, and this has been done successfully on Earth more than once in recent years.
God's authorization to those civilizations includes the honoring of Earth's free will choice that all violence and destruction of her planetary body cease. At the time of her choice, over sixty years ago in your linear time, myriad light beings-many of such vast and powerful soul collectives that you cannot imagine it-started infusing Earth with their light. This massive inflow of light not only saved her planetary body, but also has been raising the consciousness of her peoples. However, millennia of violence in a population cannot be abruptly eliminated, so the energy invested in maintaining the war machine with its monetary profits and land conquests, and the intention of some souls to control all others, must play itself out. This has been happening. If you think of the global outcry for peace today in comparison with the mentality prevailing during World War II and the continued lessening of support for wars since then, you can see this effect of the light on minds and hearts.
Even when advanced civilizations see the need for help elsewhere, they cannot intervene without being asked. Actually, Earth's cry for their assistance was enough, but your request automatically was added by the ever-growing global efforts toward peace and the end of oppression. It isn't necessary that ones believe that other life exists in the universe, much less that many highly evolved souls are living among you and millions are surrounding your planet-your desire for a better world is your conscious expression of a non-verbalized invitation to the celestial helpers.
The darkest of minds in your world do know about the lighted civilizations' presence and their on-going assistance ever since Earth asked for their help to ascend out of third density where darkness flourishes. This created such fear in those dark souls that they lost both the ability to think rationally and the capacity for conscience, which atrophied from non-use. Seeing their plans for world domination being shredded to tatters, the more desperate the dark ones became to hold onto the frayed remnants.
A related factor is that Earth's ascension pathway has reached the higher energy frequencies where the extremes of duality are playing themselves out so the nature of humankind can return to the balance that is within light. At this point, all characteristics and emotions are magnified, and this is evident in people's behavior. At one extreme, the brutal, oppressive and greedy ones are panicking in their efforts to regain control; and, at the other extreme, wiser and spiritually aware souls are equally dedicated to their behind the scenes actions to return sanity to leadership positions and institute wide-ranging reforms worldwide.
The crux of the issue about any grave-sounding information is that plans made in darkness is one thing and achieving desired results is quite another. When you put those meetings and topics of discussion and please keep in mind that often information is leaked solely for the purpose of creating fear, the dark ones' most effective tool and the fuel they need to surviveinto both the global and universal light networks I described, you will see that efforts to implement the harshest measures will not reach fruition.
Stay steadfast in the light and keep Earth's Golden Age foremost in your thoughts and hearts. The transformation of your world that you are helping to create in this very moment already has been manifested in the continuum that is how powerful you are!
Petraeus Testimony Next Week Will Signal Iran Attack
By Paul Craig Roberts
06/04/08 "ICH' -- - April 5, 2008. Today the London Telegraph reported that "British officials gave warning yesterday that America's commander in Iraq will declare that Iran is waging war against the US-backed Baghdad government. A strong statement from General David Petraeus about Iran's intervention in Iraq could set the stage for a US attack on Iranian militiary facilities, according to a Whitehall assessment."
The neocon lacky Petraeus has had his script written for him by Cheney, and Petraeus together with neocon warmonger Ryan Crocker, the US governor of the Green Zone in Baghdad, will present Congress next Tuesday and Wednesday with the lies, for which the road has been well paved by neocon propagandists such as Kimberly Kagan, that "the US must recognize that Iran is engaged in a full-up proxy war against it in Iraq."
Don't expect Congress to do anything except to egg on the attack. On April 3 the International Herald Tribune reported that senators and representatives have made millions of dollars from their investments in defense companies totaling $196 million. Rep. Ike Skelton, the Democrat chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, is already on board with the attack on Iran. The London Telegraph quotes Skelton: "Iran is the bull in the china shop. In all of this, they seem to have links to all of the Shi'ite groups, whether they be political or military."
All Skelton knows is what the war criminal Bush regime tells him. If Iran really does have all these connections, then it behooves Washington to cease threatening Iran and to make nice with Iran in order to stabilize Iraq and extract the US from the nightmare.
Reporting from Tehran on April 4, Reuters quotes Mohsen Hakim, whose father, Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, leads the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, an ally of the Maliki US puppetgovernment in Iraq: "Tehran, by using its positive influence on the Iraqi nation, paved the way for the return of peace to Iraq and the new situation is the result of Iran's efforts."
Instead of thanking Iran and working with Iran diplomatically to restore stability to Iraq, the Bush regime intends to expand the nightmare with a military attack on Iran. Ryan Crocker was quick to dispute Hakim's report that Iran had used its influence to end the fighting in Basra. Crocker alleged that Iran had started the fighting. The absurdity of Crocker's claim is obvious as even the neocon US media reported that the fighting in Basra was started by the US and Maliki in an effort to clear out the Shi'ite al-Sadr militias. Most experts saw the attack on al-Sadr for what it was: an effort to remove a potential threat to the US supply line from Kuwait in the event of a US attack on Iran.
Crocker alleges that the rockets dropping on the Green Zone during the Basra fighting were made in 2007 in Iran. As should be obvious even to disengaged Americans, if Iran were to arm the Iraqi insurgency, the insurgents would have modern weapons to counter US helicopter gunships and heavy tanks. The insurgents have no such weapons. The neocon lie that Iran is the cause of the Iraqi insurgency is just another Bush regime lie like the lie that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and connections to al Qaeda and the lie that the Taliban in Afghanistan attacked the US.
The Bush regime will tell any lie and orchestrate any event in order to "finish the job" in the Middle East.
"Finishing the job" means to destroy the ability of Iraq, Iran, and Syria to provide support for the Palestinians and for Hezbollah in southern Lebanon against Israeli aggression. With Iraq and Iran in turmoil, Syria might simply give up and become another American client state. With Iraq and Iran in turmoil, Israel can steal the rest of the West Bank along with the water resources in southern Lebanon. That is what "the war on terror" is really about.
The entire world knows this. Consequently, the US and Israel are essentially isolated. The US can only count on the support that it can bribe and pay for.
At the NATO-Russian summit in Bucharest, Romania, on April 4, Russian President Putin said: "No one can seriously think that Iran would dare attack the U.S. Instead of pushing Iran into a corner, it would be far more sensible to think together how to help Iran become more predictable and transparent."
Of course it would, but that is not what the warmonger Bush regime wants.
Perhaps the British government has derailed the plot to attack Iran by leaking in advance to the London Telegraph the disinformation Cheney has prepared for Petraeus and Crocker to deliver to the complicit US Congress next Tuesday and Wednesday. On the other hand, the US puppet media is likely to bury the real story and to trumpet Petraeus claims that Iran has, in effect, already declared war on the US by sending weapons to kill US troops in Iraq.
By next Thursday we will know from how the Petraeus-Crocker dog and pony show plays in the US Congress and media whether the Bush Regime will commit yet another war crime by attacking Iran.
Paul Craig Roberts a former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury and former associate editor of the Wall Street Journal, has been reporting shocking cases of prosecutorial abuse for two decades. A new edition of his book, The Tyranny of Good Intentions, co-authored with Lawrence Stratton, a documented account of how Americans lost the protection of law, is forthcoming from Random House in March, 2008.
British fear US commander is beating the drum for Iran strikes (05/04/2008) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/05/wiran105.xml
British officials gave warning yesterday that America's commander in Iraq will declare that Iran is waging war against the US-backed Baghdad government. A strong statement from General David Petraeus about Iran's intervention in Iraq could set the stage for a US attack on Iranian military facilities, according to a Whitehall assessment. In closely watched testimony in Washington next week, Gen Petraeus will state that the Iranian threat has risen as Tehran has supplied and directed attacks by militia fighters against the Iraqi state and its US allies.
US sees Iran, Syria "Lebanon" gambit in Iraq (8 Apr 2008) http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N08379885.htm
WASHINGTON, April 8 (Reuters) - The top two U.S. officials in Iraq accused Iran, Syria and Lebanon's Hezbollah on Tuesday of fueling recent fighting in Baghdad, saying Tehran and Damascus were pursuing a "Lebanization strategy" in Iraq. "The hand of Iran was very clear in recent weeks," U.S. commander in Iraq, Army Gen. David Petraeus, said at a hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee. Iran denies U.S. charges that it is stoking violence in Iraq and instead blames the bloodshed on the presence of 160,000 U.S. troops. But Petraeus told lawmakers that Iran's Qods Force and Hezbollah were funding, training, arming and directing renegade Shi'ite groups he blamed for recent deadly rocket and mortar attacks in the Iraqi capital.

BAGHDAD - Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr threatened Tuesday to lift a seven-month freeze on his militia if the Iraqi government does not halt attacks on his followers or set a timetable for a U.S. withdrawal. The Mahdi Army cease-fire is seen as a major factor in the reduction of violence in Iraq. It has come under severe strain in recent weeks as the Iraqi government has taken on Shiite fighters. (...) Petraeus said the recent flare-up of violence in Basra, Baghdad and elsewhere underscored the importance of al-Sadr's cease-fire, which was first imposed for six months in late August and then extended for another six-months. He said the fighting also highlighted the role Iran allegedly plays in funding and training Shiite militias through cells the U.S. military calls "special groups." "Unchecked, the special groups pose the greatest long-term threat to the viability of a democratic Iraq," Petraeus said.

Why is General Petraeus Helping Iran? (April 8, 2008) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cenk-uygur/why-is-general-petraeus-h_b_95608.html
Someone should ask General Petraeus today why he is working so hard to help Iran. This is not to suggest he is some sort of enemy of the state. I suppose he is following orders, but why doesn't he question his wildly counterproductive and conflicting orders? I hear him bemoaning Iranian influence in Iraq all the time. Yet, no one has helped Iran more inside Iraq than he has. We have lent the full force of our military might to the political faction and Shiite militia most closely associated with Iran. Granted there aren't a lot of good guys in the different Iraqi militias (on the other hand, they don't have much reason to think we're swell, either). But why have we decided to back the most pro-Iranian militia in the whole country? The Badr Corps is linked with the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI), which is the largest party inside Iraq. The Badr Corps also happens to be the militia with closest ties to Iran. They also happen to be the militia that ran those feared death squads during the ethnic cleansing of Baghdad. And get this - they are also the ones that want to split up Iraq instead of keeping it unified. All of these objectives seem to be diametrically opposed to what we want in Iraq. So why have we thrown all our military muscle behind them? This is not just a rhetorical question. I'm actually curious as to what the answer is. Why are we helping ISCI and Bard Corps split up Iraq and allowing Iran to gain even greater influence inside Iraq? I hope Gen. Petraeus isn't going to pretend that the Sadr's Mahdi Army has closer ties to Iran. That is demonstrably false. If he does that, then you know he is just Dick Cheney's puppet trying to stoke hostilities with Iran based on false premises. But beyond that, if we want to fight Iran so badly, why are we helping their top allies in Iraq? I would love it if we actually used Congressional hearings to ask a real question for once and if General Petraeus, for once, gave us a real answer.
Iran condemns attacks on Green Zone (Apr 8, 2008) http://www.armytimes.com/news/2008/04/ap_iran_greenzoneattacks_040808/
TEHRAN, Iran Iran stNed up its public support for Iraqs government on Tuesday, denouncing attacks on the Green Zone where it is based and praising Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Malikis crackdown against Shiite militias in the south. The top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, repeated accusations in testimony before Congress on Tuesday that Iran supports armed Shiite factions that threaten Iraqs stability referring to supporters of anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr who are blamed for recent rocket and mortar attacks against the U.S.-protected Green Zone and who were the target of a major crackdown earlier this month in the southern city of Basra. But Irans comments highlighted how Tehran has spread its support among a range of Shiite factions in Iraq including al-Maliki and members of his government. Iranian officials have said they played a major role in brokering a truce between al-Maliki and Sadr that ended the Basra fighting. For the first time, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini condemned the rocket attacks on the Green Zone, the heavily fortified Baghdad neighborhood where al-Malikis government as well as U.S. officials are based. (...) Sergey Barseqian, an independent Iranian political analyst, said Irans decision to condemn Green Zone attacks and push for the recent truce was an attempt to improve its image in Iraq. Iran is trying to distance itself from accusations of supporting Iraqi Shiite militia and show that Iran supports the Iraqi government, said Barseqian.Another independent Iranian analyst, Davood Hermidas Bavand, said the public relations push was also related to Tehrans offer on Monday to hold a fourth round of talks with the U.S. on security in Iraq. Iran is trying to make the environment of upcoming Iran-U.S. talks on Iraqi security positive, said Bavand. Iran is close to al-Maliki, who has made several trips to Tehran, and earlier this year Mahmoud Ahmadinejad became the first Iranian president to visit Iraq since the 1979 Iranian revolution. Tehran is also close to the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, a member of al-Malikis coalition whose Badr Brigade militia is the Mahdi Armys sworn enemy. CLIP

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's president says Iran has begun installing 6,000 centrifuges at its uranium enrichment plant in Natanz. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced the work on state television on Tuesday. Iran already has about 3,000 centrifuges operating in Natanz. The new announcement is seen as a show of defiance of international demands to halt a nuclear program. The U.S. and its allies say the program is aimed at building nuclear weapons. Iran denies those allegations.

TEHRAN, Iran - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Iran has tested new advanced centrifuges, a breakthrough in a uranium enrichment program that the U.N. has demanded the country halt. The hardline president says a "new machine was put to test" that is smaller but five times more efficient than the P-1 centrifuges already in use. Ahmadinejad's comments Tuesday at a ceremony marking the second anniversary of Iran's first enrichment of uranium reflect his continued defiance of U.S. and U.N. demands that the country stop the process, which produce reactor fuel or material for a nuclear warhead.

George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Condoleezza Rice, along with a slew of administration underlings and a revolving-door cavalcade of brass hats from the Pentagon, have been making claims regarding Iraq for many years now.
They claimed Iraq was in possession of 26,000 liters of anthrax, "enough to kill several million people," according to a page on the White House web site titled Disarm Saddam Hussein.
They claimed Iraq was in possession of 38,000 liters of botulinum toxin.
They claimed Iraq was in possession of 500 tons, which equals 1,000,000 pounds, of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent.
They claimed Iraq was in possession of nearly 30,000 munitions capable of delivering these agents.
They claimed Iraq was in possession of several mobile biological weapons labs.
They claimed Iraq was operating an "advanced" nuclear weapons program.
They claimed Iraq had been seeking "significant quantities" of uranium from Africa for use in this "advanced" nuclear weapons program.
They claimed Iraq attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes "suitable for nuclear weapons."
They claimed America needed to invade, overthrow and occupy Iraq in order to remove this menace from our world. "It would take just one vial, one canister, one crate slipped into this country," went the White House line, "to bring a day of horror like none we have ever known."
"Simply stated," said Dick Cheney in August of 2002, "there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction."
"Right now," said George W. Bush in September of 2002, "Iraq is expanding and improving facilities that were used for the production of nuclear weapons."
"We know for a fact," said White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer in January of 2003, "that there are weapons there."
"We know that Saddam Hussein is determined to keep his weapons of mass destruction," said Colin Powell in February of 2003, "is determined to make more."
"We know where they are," said Donald Rumsfeld in March of 2003. "They are in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad, and east, south, west and north somewhat."
"The Iraqi people understand what this crisis is about," said Paul Wolfowitz in March of 2003. "Like the people of France in the 1940s, they view us as their hoped-for liberator."
"No one ever said that we knew precisely where all of these agents were," said Condoleezza Rice in June of 2003, "where they were stored."
"I have absolute confidence that there are weapons of mass destruction inside this country," said Gen. Tommy Franks in April of 2003. "Whether we will turn out, at the end of the day, to find them in one of the 2,000 or 3,000 sites we already know about or whether contact with one of these officials who we may come in contact with will tell us, 'Oh, well, there's actually another site,' and we'll find it there, I'm not sure."
"Before the war," said Gen. Michael Hagee in May of 2003, "there's no doubt in my mind that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, biological and chemical. I expected them to be found. I still expect them to be found."
"Given time," said Gen. Richard Myers in May of 2003, "given the number of prisoners now that we're interrogating, I'm confident that we're going to find weapons of mass destruction."
"Do I think we're going to find something? Yeah, I kind of do," said Maj. Gen. Keith Dayton in May of 2003, "because I think there's a lot of information out there."
Gen. David Petraeus, commander of US forces in Iraq, is about to give testimony before the Senate regarding the current state of affairs in that battle-savaged country. He is a political general, one of many America has seen and heard over the last five years, one who would leap nude from the Capitol dome before telling the real truth about matters in Iraq ... or who would speak using words fed to him by liars, and thus be wrong.
Remember: they lie. They all lie, from the top man down to the bottom. If their lips are moving, a lie is unfolding. If they say water is wet, get into the shower to make sure.
End of file.

The Terrorists Are In Fact Peacemakers (04/04/03) http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article19675.htm
Iran is sufficiently powerful to broker a ceasefire deal - VOICE OF ZAA NKWETA, PRESENTER: After a week of heavy clashes, fighting in Basra has calmed down, Muqtada al-Sadr has pulled his Mahdi Army fighters off the streets, and Nouri al-Maliki declared the military operation to clear Basra of Shiite militia violence a success. But who won the battle of Basra? To answer this question, we go to Real News analyst Pepe Escobar. PEPE ESCOBAR, THE REAL NEWS ANALYST: George W. Bush said that the battle of Basra was a defining moment in Iraq. Well, defining it was, but maybe not the way he intended. There was a ceasefire. Do you know the man who brokered a ceasefire? His name is Brigadier General Qassem Suleimani. He is the head of the Quds Force of the Iranian Republican Guard Corps. As everybody knows, the Iranian Government Guard Corps was declared as a terrorist organization by the US last year. So this man in Qom, religious capital of Iran, brokered a ceasefire between Muqtada al-Sadr's envoys who came from Iraq and Hadi al-Amri, which is the number two of the Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq. He is the head of the Badr Organization. He's part of the Baghdad government. So Muqtada's people come from Baghdad. Al-Hakim's people, Badr Organization, Supreme Islamic Council come from Baghdad. They go to Iran, in Qom. And the head of the Quds Force brokers a ceasefire, and the battle of Basra ends. So who are the winners and who are the losers? Okay. The winners are Iran and Muqtada al-Sadr; the losers are al-Maliki government in Baghdad and George W. "defining moment" Bush. This doesn't mean that Muqtada al-Sadr is in the pockets of Iran. What it means is Iran is sufficiently powerful to get the two most important religious parties in Iraq, the Sadrists and al-Hakim's Supreme Islamic Council, to Iran to broker a ceasefire organized by Iran. This means that the terrorists aren't exactly terroriststhe terrorists are in fact peacemakers.

AMMAN (AFP) - A top UN official warned on Friday of "very grave" humanitarian problems in Iraq, including a lack of food and the internal displacement of more than two million people.ADVERTISEMENT "There are very grave humanitarian problems, the most serious is the internal displacement of the Iraqis... this is a phenomenon which we believe has slowed down significantly in recent months," UN Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs John Holmes told a news conference in Amman. The UN refugee agency said on Tuesday that the number of internally displaced Iraqis had risen to more than 2.77 million people by the end of March, five years after the US-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein. Two million Iraqis have also fled to neighbouring Jordan and Syria, where social and health services are struggling with the influx. Holmes, who is in Jordan on his way to Iraq, said basic services in many areas in Iraq "are still deteriorating.""For example there are four million people who do not have enough food, only 40 percent of the population have reliable access to safe drinking water and one third of people are cut off from essential health care, life saving medication and basic immunisation," he said. According to Holmes, between four and nine percent of children under five are suffering from acute malnutrition. "The humanitarian needs have risen significantly... over the past two years... we are not encouraging people to return to Iraq at the moment," he said.

Since Gulf War 1 - 73,846 US Dead -- 1,620,906 Disabled -- George Walker Bush has presided over the worst defeat of the United States Military since Vietnam and has deliberately skewed reporting of the deaths and injuries to conceal the facts. Department of Veteran's Affairs, in conjunction with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has released the truth because they need the American People to know our military is literally, destroyed. They cannot release these horrific numbers via the chain of command because they are under orders to conceal the truth at all costs, so they let slip a report which now cannot be "un-slipped." CLIP
"Body of War," a Turning Point for Iraq Documentaries (7 April 2008) http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/040708A.shtml
With Iraq documentaries having fared poorly at the box office, a new film, "Body of War," could mark a turning point because it brings to the big screen a subject that has yet to be broached by a major movie. "It's the voice of a soldier," said Ellen Spiro, co-director of the film. Spiro co-directs with long-time TV talk show host Phil Donahue, who said, "We are not saying we are better, but we are different," when asked about comparing "Body of War" with other Iraq documentaries. The film's subject is paralyzed Iraq war veteran Tomas Young, who was shot through the spine in Iraq on April 4, 2004. Young's transformation from war veteran to antiwar hero (as the movie poster boasts) is mixed well with the speech of Senator Byrd (D-West Virginia) against the resolution giving President Bush the power to invade Iraq. Also tallied throughout, are the names of the aye votes on this resolution, of which there were 77. By the end of the film, the audience knows the arguments made for and against war from the Senate floor, but much more moving is the personal connection formed with Young. His personal life is opened up from his marriage (and its eventual collapse) to his erectile dysfunction. The audience watches the middle Young brother go off to war as Tomas watches from his wheelchair. The credits reveal Young's brother comes home safely from that deployment, only to be redeployed in September of 2007. He remains in Iraq, trying to keep the phone conversations with his brother on the light side. The film ends on a touching moment, with Byrd and Young both admitting they have little control over their respective days. After the initial credits roll, the names of all 23 senators and 133 representatives voting against the resolution are shown on the screen; and at the premier in Washington, DC, a sold-out crowd rose to their feet in roaring applause. The information Leo presents is shocking, concerning the real modus operandi and agendas of the Illuminati and the Catholic Church; what really happens at Bohemian Grove; details of widespread Luciferian practices and the evocation and control of powerful demons; what 2012 is all about - and much more.
Disgusted with satanic black magic rituals, and with the true intentions of those who regard themselves as the elite controllers of the planet, he has now made the commitment to tell the real story of those who seek to rule us all without our consent.
Quick, intelligent, likeable, passionate, and with a huge amount of information at his fingertips about the inside workings of the Powers that Be, Leo welcomed us into his house in Oslo, Norway, where he had been living in what might be called exile.
In our two and a half hour interview we were barely able to scratch the surface of everything he knows, and what we present is a summary for those unfamiliar with the labyrinthine details of one of the most important stories of our time.
Leo seems to have paid a price for talking to us on camera. Days after our interview, his wife Fatma Süslü, of Turkish descent but an aspiring Norwegian politician, left him - accusing us at Project Camelot, in the process, of being agents. Immediately after her departure he was temporarily imprisoned and his cellphone and computers were confiscated by the police. He intends to leave Norway for safer shores as soon as he can make the arrangements.

See photos and take action!
On Monday, thousands of people in 84 cities worldwide marched for justice for Tibet--and delivered the 1.5 million-signature Avaaz petition to Chinese embassies and consulates around the globe. (Click below for photos.) Avaaz staff have engaged with Chinese diplomats in New York and London, delivering the petition and urging action. And a growing chorus of world leaders is joining the call.
China is on the fence--indicating an openness to talks with the Dalai Lama, while at the same time pressuring other governments to support its continuing crackdown. Each day, more leaders declare their stance. It's time to redouble our efforts--click below to send a personal message to your head of state, urging support for dialogue with the Dalai Lama--and check out the photo gallery from Monday's day of action!
Together, we've built an unprecedented wave of global pressure. The Avaaz petition is one of the biggest and fastest-growing global online petitions on any topic in history; since it launched on March 18, it has been signed by 100,000 people per day--an average of more than 4,000 per hour, day and night.
Politicians understand that there is power in numbers. We need to show them that they have more to gain by listening to their own people--and heeding the cry for help from Tibet--than by giving China a pass in the lead-up to the Olympic Games. Take action now
We're privileged to be alive at a time when people anywhere can reach out and support people everywhere--instantly. If we have the power to make things better, we have a responsibility to act. Thanks for what you've done so far, for the people of Tibet and for a more humane world for all.
Ben, Ricken, Graziela, Galit, Paul, Iain, Pascal, and the Avaaz team
PS - The more people sign the petition, the more powerful our call for change. We will hope to deliver it to the Chinese government again once we reach our target of 2 million signers. If you haven't already, please forward the email below to your friends and family, and urge them to sign the Tibet petition!
___ here's a message to forward to friends ___
After decades of suffering, the Tibetan people have burst onto the streets in protests and riots. The spotlight of the upcoming Olympic Games is now on China, and Tibetan Nobel peace prize winner the Dalai Lama is calling to end all violence through restraint and dialogue--he urgently needs the world's people to support him.
China's leaders are lashing out publicly at the Dalai Lama--but we're told many Chinese officials believe dialogue is the best hope for stability in Tibet. China's leadership is right now considering a crucial choice between crackdown and dialogue that could determine Tibet's--and China's--future.
We can affect this historic choice--China does care about its international reputation, and we can help them choose the right path. China's President Hu Jintao needs to hear that the 'Made in China' brand and the upcoming Olympics in Beijing will succeed only if he makes the right choice. But it will take an avalanche of global people power to get his attention. Click below now to join 1.5 million others and sign the petition--and tell absolutely everyone you can right away--our goal is 2 million voices united for Tibet:
China's economy is dependent on "Made in China" exports that we all buy, and the government is keen to make the Olympics in Beijing this summer a celebration of a new and respected China. China is also a sprawling, diverse country with much brutality in its past. And it has good reasons to be concerned about stability -- some of Tibet's rioters killed innocent people. But President Hu must recognize that the greatest danger to Chinese stability and development today comes from hardliners who advocate escalating repression, not from those Tibetans seeking dialogue and reform.
We have presented the petition at protests, marches, rallies, and private meetings with Chinese diplomats around the world--and we will keep sending it as long as it keeps growing. Please forward this email to your address book with a note explaining to your friends why this is important, or use our tell-a-friend tool to email your address book--it will come up after you sign. The Tibetan people have suffered quietly for decades. It is finally their moment to speak--we must help them be heard.
With hope and respect,
The Avaaz team

Olympic torch protests could backfire: rights groups (April 8, 2008) http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080409/wl_asia_afp/chinaunresttibetrightsoly2008protests_080409025154
SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - Human rights groups on Tuesday warned protesters against targeting the Olympic torch on its route through San Francisco, saying further disruption to the troubled relay could backfire. Thousands of activists are poised to take to the streets here Wednesday as the torch arrives for the US leg of its global tour, two days after chaotic scenes in Paris where pro-Tibet forced organizers to cut short the relay. It followed similarly rowdy protests in London on Sunday, where police arrested dozens of demonstrators seeking to draw attention to China's recent actions in Tibet and human rights record. While myriad rights groups are planning to hold demonstrations in San Francisco on Wednesday, an increasing number of activists have called on protesters to avoid attempting to disrupt the event."We are calling on all of our supporters to remain calm, not to disrupt the torch relay as much as to come out in great numbers and show the strength of the movement," John Ackerly, president of the International Campaign for Tibet, told a panel discussion organized by Amnesty International. "There is a certainly a danger if people jump in front of it and try to grab the torch, but such actions could sway public opinion against us. We stand by non-violence." Lucie Morillon, of press watchdog Reporters Without Borders, said a repeat of the scenes in London and Paris could hand China a propaganda victory. CLIP

Sharply rising prices have triggered food riots in recent weeks in Mexico, Morocco, Senegal, Uzbekistan, Guinea, Mauritania and Yemen, and aid agencies around the world worry they may be unable to feed the poorest of the poor.
In the Philippines, officials are raiding warehouses in Manila looking for unscrupulous traders hoarding rice, while in South Korea, panicked housewives recently stripped grocery-store shelves of food when the cost of ramen, an instant noodle made from wheat, suddenly rose.
The shadow of "a new hunger" that has made food too expensive for millions is the result of a sudden and dramatic surge in food prices around the world.
Rising prices for all the world's crucial cereal crops and growing fears of scarcity are careening through international markets, creating turmoil.
Last Thursday, as world rice prices soared by as much as 30% in one day, Egypt decided to suspend rice exports for six months to meet domestic demand and to try to limit price increases.
That was bad news for its main rice customers -- Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.
Egypt's move was matched by Vietnam, the world's second-largest rice exporter after Thailand, which cut exports by 25% and ordered officials not to sign any more export contracts this year.
India and Cambodia also rushed to curb their exports in order to have enough supplies to feed their own people.
With crude oil soaring above US$100 a barrel, higher fuel prices have driven up the cost of production and increased transportation costs for all foods.
Pests in Southeast Asia, a 10-year drought in Australia and a 45-day cold snap in China have combined to aggravate the situation.
At the same time, millions of people in China and India have suddenly become relatively wealthy and are changing their eating habits, consuming more meat and chicken, which places a huge demand on cereal stocks.
In China, per-capita meat consumption has increased 150% since the 1980s. But producing more meat requires more feed to raise more animals.
"You simply feed less people on maize [corn] via cattle than you do in maize direct," said John Powell, the UN World Food Program's (WFP) deputy director of external programs in Rome.
Also influencing the food crisis is the move in North America and Europe to biofuel in an effort to ease global warming and reduce reliance on imported energy.
A surge in demand for biofuel has resulted in a sharp decline in agricultural land planted for food crops. About 16% of U.S. agricultural land formerly planted with soybeans and wheat is now growing corn for biofuel.
"For the first time in history, there is a clear link between the price of fuel and the price of food," Mr. Powell said.
"If there were a miraculous 20% increase in the quantity of food production, we would not know what would go toward increased food consumption and what would go to biofuels.
"Where it would go is where the prices are best."
Rice is a staple food for half the world's population. But the sudden surge in prices and restrictions on exports come at a time when stockpiles of rice are at their lowest level in decades.
At the moment, world rice inventories are said to stand at a mere 72 million metric tonnes -- about 17% of what the world consumes annually.
The low stockpiles create a market in which any supply disruption will result in radical price swings.
They also complicate delivering foreign aid to those most in need.
The WPF, which feeds 73 million of the world's most destitute each year, says its costs have increased 55% since June. Unless it gets US$500-million in emergency funding, it may soon have to reduce feeding programs.
Experts predict world food markets will be locked into an inflationary spiral for at least four years, but some say the crisis could linger for a decade or more.
"There is pretty much a sense that what we are seeing is a step change or a structural change and not a peak to be followed by a trough," Mr. Powell said.
"In other words, we are into an era of high food prices. It's not just volatility, it's a step increase."
Grains Gone Wild (April 7, 2008) http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/07/opinion/07krugman.html?_r=1
These days you hear a lot about the world financial crisis. But theres another world crisis under way and its hurting a lot more people Im talking about the food crisis. Over the past few years the prices of wheat, corn, rice and other basic foodstuffs have doubled or tripled, with much of the increase taking place just in the last few months. High food prices dismay even relatively well-off Americans but theyre truly devastating in poor countries, where food often accounts for more than half a familys spending. There have already been food riots around the world. Food-supplying countries, from Ukraine to Argentina, have been limiting exports in an attempt to protect domestic consumers, leading to angry protests from farmers and making things even worse in countries that need to import food. How did this happen? The answer is a combination of long-term trends, bad luck and bad policy. CLIP
Food riots turn deadly in Haiti (5 April 2008) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7331921.stm
At least four people were killed and 20 wounded when demonstrations against rising food prices turned into riots in southern Haiti, officials say. Reports say scores of people went on the rampage in the town of Les Cayes, blocking roads, looting shops and shooting at UN peacekeepers. The UN said its personnel had opened fire at some of the armed protesters. For two days running, parts of Haiti have been erupting into violence triggered by the soaring cost of food. The prices of rice, beans and fruit have gone up by 50% in the last year. Earlier this week, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon issued a report saying that the food crisis threatened the Caribbean nation's fragile security. CLI¨P
Hike in world food prices sparks deadly riots in Africa (6 April 2008) http://www.mg.co.za/articlepage.aspx?area=/breaking_news/breaking_news__africa/&articleid=336367
African governments are nervously confronting a mounting wave of often deadly social unrest caused by the soaring cost of food and fuel. Forty people died during price riots in Cameroon in February. There also have been deadly troubles in Côte d'Ivoire and Mauritania and other violent demonstrations in Senegal and Burkina Faso -- where a nationwide strike against price rises is to start on Tuesday. Egypt warned of tough measures against anyone taking part in a general strike called for Sunday to protest soaring inflation and low pay.Governments across the continent -- where the crisis ranges from 100 000% inflation in Zimbabwe to Morocco, where subsidies for key commodities have grown fivefold over six years -- are becoming anxious about public anger. The rise in international food prices "poses significant threats to Africa's growth, peace and security", African finance ministers warned in a statement at the end of a meeting in Addis Ababa last week to discuss the crisis."Escalating social unrest as we have seen in Cameroon, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and in Senegal could spread to other countries" warned Kanayo Nwanza, vice-president of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, a United Nations agency. The cost of rice has risen by 300% in Sierra Leone, already one of the world's poorest countries, and by about 50% in Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal and Cameroon. The cost of palm oil, sugar and flour, nearly all of which have to be imported, has also surged. Africa is now a major oil producer but the explosion in the cost of crude to over $100 a barrel has backfired on poor populations who depend on public transport to get around congested African capitals. In Guinea, where the government could no longer subsidise petrol-reliant services, prices have shot up by 61%, halting buses and taxis. In Guinea-Bissau, fuel prices have gone up eight-fold due to shortages.Senegalese economist Moustapha Kasse said the rise in global oil prices and rapid urbanisation in Africa explains why demand for food and fuel has shot up. But what is worrying everybody is that the current rise in inflation is driven by high food prices. In the capital, Delhi, milk costs 11% more than last year. Shortages have begun to hit some importing countries.Factors contributing to the price rise include: - Poor harvests resulting from extreme weather - A rise in demand in some rice-importing countries, where populations and incomes are growing - The expectation of further price increases - resulting in hoarding - Low stockpiles and a long term lack of agricultural investment. The spike is also part of a general surge in food costs worldwide, so the option of switching to cheaper foods is often not available. Rice Jumps to Record, Corn Near High as Demand Outpaces Supply http://tinyurl.com/yojhdl

From his Cessna a mile above the southern Amazon, John Carter looks down on the destruction of the world's greatest ecological jewel. He watches men converting rain forest into cattle pastures and soybean fields with bulldozers and chains. He sees fires wiping out such gigantic swaths of jungle that scientists now debate the "savannization" of the Amazon. Brazil just announced that deforestation is on track to double this year; Carter, a Texas cowboy with all the subtlety of a chainsaw, says it's going to get worse fast. "It gives me goose bumps," says Carter, who founded a nonprofit to promote sustainable ranching on the Amazon frontier. "It's like witnessing a rape."
The Amazon was the chic eco-cause of the 1990s, revered as an incomparable storehouse of biodiversity. It's been overshadowed lately by global warming, but the Amazon rain forest happens also to be an incomparable storehouse of carbon, the very carbon that heats up the planet when it's released into the atmosphere. Brazil now ranks fourth in the world in carbon emissions, and most of its emissions come from deforestation. Carter is not a man who gets easily spooked - he led a reconnaissance unit in Desert Storm, and I watched him grab a small anaconda with his bare hands in Brazil - but he can sound downright panicky about the future of the forest. "You can't protect it. There's too much money to be made tearing it down," he says. "Out here on the frontier, you really see the market at work."
This land rush is being accelerated by an unlikely source: biofuels. An explosion in demand for farm-grown fuels has raised global crop prices to record highs, which is spurring a dramatic expansion of Brazilian agriculture, which is invading the Amazon at an increasingly alarming rate.
Propelled by mounting anxieties over soaring oil costs and climate change, biofuels have become the vanguard of the green-tech revolution, the trendy way for politicians and corporations to show they're serious about finding alternative sources of energy and in the process slowing global warming. The U.S. quintupled its production of ethanol - ethyl alcohol, a fuel distilled from plant matter - in the past decade, and Washington has just mandated another fivefold increase in renewable fuels over the next decade. Europe has similarly aggressive biofuel mandates and subsidies, and Brazil's filling stations no longer even offer plain gasoline. Worldwide investment in biofuels rose from $5 billion in 1995 to $38 billion in 2005 and is expected to top $100 billion by 2010, thanks to investors like Richard Branson and George Soros, GE and BP, Ford and Shell, Cargill and the Carlyle Group. Renewable fuels has become one of those motherhood-and-apple-pie catchphrases, as unobjectionable as the troops or the middle class.
But several new studies show the biofuel boom is doing exactly the opposite of what its proponents intended: it's dramatically accelerating global warming, imperiling the planet in the name of saving it. Corn ethanol, always environmentally suspect, turns out to be environmentally disastrous. Even cellulosic ethanol made from switchgrass, which has been promoted by eco-activists and eco-investors as well as by President Bush as the fuel of the future, looks less green than oil-derived gasoline.
Meanwhile, by diverting grain and oilseed crops from dinner plates to fuel tanks, biofuels are jacking up world food prices and endangering the hungry. The grain it takes to fill an SUV tank with ethanol could feed a person for a year. Harvests are being plucked to fuel our cars instead of ourselves. The U.N.'s World Food Program says it needs $500 million in additional funding and supplies, calling the rising costs for food nothing less than a global emergency. Soaring corn prices have sparked tortilla riots in Mexico City, and skyrocketing flour prices have destabilized Pakistan, which wasn't exactly tranquil when flour was affordable.
Biofuels do slightly reduce dependence on imported oil, and the ethanol boom has created rural jobs while enriching some farmers and agribusinesses. But the basic problem with most biofuels is amazingly simple, given that researchers have ignored it until now: using land to grow fuel leads to the destruction of forests, wetlands and grasslands that store enormous amounts of carbon.
Backed by billions in investment capital, this alarming phenomenon is replicating itself around the world. Indonesia has bulldozed and burned so much wilderness to grow palm oil trees for biodiesel that its ranking among the world's top carbon emitters has surged from 21st to third according to a report by Wetlands International. Malaysia is converting forests into palm oil farms so rapidly that it's running out of uncultivated land. But most of the damage created by biofuels will be less direct and less obvious. In Brazil, for instance, only a tiny portion of the Amazon is being torn down to grow the sugarcane that fuels most Brazilian cars. More deforestation results from a chain reaction so vast it's subtle: U.S. farmers are selling one-fifth of their corn to ethanol production, so U.S. soybean farmers are switching to corn, so Brazilian soybean farmers are expanding into cattle pastures, so Brazilian cattlemen are displaced to the Amazon. It's the remorseless economics of commodities markets. "The price of soybeans goes up," laments Sandro Menezes, a biologist with Conservation International in Brazil, "and the forest comes down."
Deforestation accounts for 20% of all current carbon emissions. So unless the world can eliminate emissions from all other sources - cars, power plants, factories, even flatulent cows - it needs to reduce deforestation or risk an environmental catastrophe. That means limiting the expansion of agriculture, a daunting task as the world's population keeps expanding. And saving forests is probably an impossibility so long as vast expanses of cropland are used to grow modest amounts of fuel. The biofuels boom, in short, is one that could haunt the planet for generations - and it's only getting started.
Why the Amazon Is on Fire
This destructive biofuel dynamic is on vivid display in Brazil, where a Rhode Island - size chunk of the Amazon was deforested in the second half of 2007 and even more was degraded by fire. Some scientists believe fires are now altering the local microclimate and could eventually reduce the Amazon to a savanna or even a desert. "It's approaching a tipping point," says ecologist Daniel Nepstad of the Woods Hole Research Center.
I spent a day in the Amazon with the Kamayura tribe, which has been forced by drought to replant its crops five times this year. The tribesmen I met all complained about hacking coughs and stinging eyes from the constant fires and the disappearance of the native plants they use for food, medicine and rituals. The Kamayura had virtually no contact with whites until the 1960s; now their forest is collapsing around them. Their chief, Kotok, a middle-aged man with an easy smile and Three Stooges hairdo that belie his fierce authority, believes that's no coincidence. "We are people of the forest, and the whites are destroying our home," says Kotok, who wore a ceremonial beaded belt, a digital watch, a pair of flip-flops and nothing else. "It's all because of money."
Kotok knows nothing about biofuels. He's more concerned about his tribe's recent tendency to waste its precious diesel-powered generator watching late-night soap operas. But he's right. Deforestation can be a complex process; for example, land reforms enacted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva have attracted slash-and-burn squatters to the forest, and "use it or lose it" incentives have spurred some landowners to deforest to avoid redistribution.
The basic problem is that the Amazon is worth more deforested than it is intact. Carter, who fell in love with the region after marrying a Brazilian and taking over her father's ranch, says the rate of deforestation closely tracks commodity prices on the Chicago Board of Trade. "It's just exponential right now because the economics are so good," he says. "Everything tillable or grazeable is gouged out and cleared."
That the destruction is taking place in Brazil is sadly ironic, given that the nation is also an exemplar of the allure of biofuels. Sugar growers here have a greener story to tell than do any other biofuel producers. They provide 45% of Brazil's fuel (all cars in the country are able to run on ethanol) on only 1% of its arable land. They've reduced fertilizer use while increasing yields, and they convert leftover biomass into electricity. Marcos Jank, the head of their trade group, urges me not to lump biofuels together: "Grain is good for bread, not for cars. But sugar is different." Jank expects production to double by 2015 with little effect on the Amazon. "You'll see the expansion on cattle pastures and the Cerrado," he says.
So far, he's right. There isn't much sugar in the Amazon. But my next stop was the Cerrado, south of the Amazon, an ecological jewel in its own right. The Amazon gets the ink, but the Cerrado is the world's most biodiverse savanna, with 10,000 species of plants, nearly half of which are found nowhere else on earth, and more mammals than the African bush. In the natural Cerrado, I saw toucans and macaws, puma tracks and a carnivorous flower that lures flies by smelling like manure. The Cerrado's trees aren't as tall or dense as the Amazon's, so they don't store as much carbon, but the region is three times the size of Texas, so it stores its share.
At least it did, before it was transformed by the march of progress - first into pastures, then into sugarcane and soybean fields. In one field I saw an array of ovens cooking trees into charcoal, spewing Cerrado's carbon into the atmosphere; those ovens used to be ubiquitous, but most of the trees are gone. I had to travel hours through converted Cerrado to see a 96-acre (39 hectare) sliver of intact Cerrado, where a former shopkeeper named Lauro Barbosa had spent his life savings for a nature preserve. "The land prices are going up, up, up," Barbosa told me. "My friends say I'm a fool, and my wife almost divorced me. But I wanted to save something before it's all gone."
The environmental cost of this cropland creep is now becoming apparent. One groundbreaking new study in Science concluded that when this deforestation effect is taken into account, corn ethanol and soy biodiesel produce about twice the emissions of gasoline. Sugarcane ethanol is much cleaner, and biofuels created from waste products that don't gobble up land have real potential, but even cellulosic ethanol increases overall emissions when its plant source is grown on good cropland. "People don't want to believe renewable fuels could be bad," says the lead author, Tim Searchinger, a Princeton scholar and former Environmental Defense attorney. "But when you realize we're tearing down rain forests that store loads of carbon to grow crops that store much less carbon, it becomes obvious."
The growing backlash against biofuels is a product of the law of unintended consequences. It may seem obvious now that when biofuels increase demand for crops, prices will rise and farms will expand into nature. But biofuel technology began on a small scale, and grain surpluses were common. Any ripples were inconsequential. When the scale becomes global, the outcome is entirely different, which is causing cheerleaders for biofuels to recalibrate. "We're all looking at the numbers in an entirely new way," says the Natural Resources Defense Council's Nathanael Greene, whose optimistic "Growing Energy" report in 2004 helped galvanize support for biofuels among green groups.
Several of the most widely cited experts on the environmental benefits of biofuels are warning about the environmental costs now that they've recognized the deforestation effect. "The situation is a lot more challenging than a lot of us thought," says University of California, Berkeley, professor Alexander Farrell, whose 2006 Science article calculating the emissions reductions of various ethanols used to be considered the definitive analysis. The experts haven't given up on biofuels; they're calling for better biofuels that won't trigger massive carbon releases by displacing wildland. Robert Watson, the top scientist at the U.K.'s Department for the Environment, recently warned that mandating more biofuel usage - as the European Union is proposing - would be "insane" if it increases greenhouse gases. But the forces that biofuels have unleashed - political, economic, social - may now be too powerful to constrain.
America the Bio-Foolish
The best place to see this is America's biofuel mecca: Iowa. Last year fewer than 2% of U.S. gas stations offered ethanol, and the country produced 7 billion gal. (26.5 billion L) of biofuel, which cost taxpayers at least $8 billion in subsidies. But on Nov. 6, at a biodiesel plant in Newton, Iowa, Hillary Rodham Clinton unveiled an eye-popping plan that would require all stations to offer ethanol by 2017 while mandating 60 billion gal. (227 billion L) by 2030. "This is the fuel for a much brighter future!" she declared. Barack Obama immediately criticized her - not for proposing such an expansive plan but for failing to support ethanol before she started trolling for votes in Iowa's caucuses.
If biofuels are the new dotcoms, Iowa is Silicon Valley, with 53,000 jobs and $1.8 billion in income dependent on the industry. The state has so many ethanol distilleries under construction that it's poised to become a net importer of corn. That's why biofuel-pandering has become virtually mandatory for presidential contenders. John McCain was the rare candidate who vehemently opposed ethanol as an outrageous agribusiness boondoggle, which is why he skipped Iowa in 2000. But McCain learned his lesson in time for this year's caucuses. By 2006 he was calling ethanol a "vital alternative energy source."
Members of Congress love biofuels too, not only because so many dream about future Iowa caucuses but also because so few want to offend the farm lobby, the most powerful force behind biofuels on Capitol Hill. Ethanol isn't about just Iowa or even the Midwest anymore. Plants are under construction in New York, Georgia, Oregon and Texas, and the ethanol boom's effect on prices has helped lift farm incomes to record levels nationwide.
Someone is paying to support these environmentally questionable industries: you. In December, President Bush signed a bipartisan energy bill that will dramatically increase support to the industry while mandating 36 billion gal. (136 billion L) of biofuel by 2022. This will provide a huge boost to grain markets.
Why is so much money still being poured into such a misguided enterprise? Like the scientists and environmentalists, many politicians genuinely believe biofuels can help decrease global warming. It makes intuitive sense: cars emit carbon no matter what fuel they burn, but the process of growing plants for fuel sucks some of that carbon out of the atmosphere. For years, the big question was whether those reductions from carbon sequestration outweighed the "life cycle" of carbon emissions from farming, converting the crops to fuel and transporting the fuel to market. Researchers eventually concluded that yes, biofuels were greener than gasoline. The improvements were only about 20% for corn ethanol because tractors, petroleum-based fertilizers and distilleries emitted lots of carbon. But the gains approached 90% for more efficient fuels, and advocates were confident that technology would progressively increase benefits.
There was just one flaw in the calculation: the studies all credited fuel crops for sequestering carbon, but no one checked whether the crops would ultimately replace vegetation and soils that sucked up even more carbon. It was as if the science world assumed biofuels would be grown in parking lots. The deforestation of Indonesia has shown that's not the case. It turns out that the carbon lost when wilderness is razed overwhelms the gains from cleaner-burning fuels. A study by University of Minnesota ecologist David Tilman concluded that it will take more than 400 years of biodiesel use to "pay back" the carbon emitted by directly clearing peat lands to grow palm oil; clearing grasslands to grow corn for ethanol has a payback period of 93 years. The result is that biofuels increase demand for crops, which boosts prices, which drives agricultural expansion, which eats forests. Searchinger's study concluded that overall, corn ethanol has a payback period of about 167 years because of the deforestation it triggers.
Not every kernel of corn diverted to fuel will be replaced. Diversions raise food prices, so the poor will eat less. That's the reason a U.N. food expert recently called agrofuels a "crime against humanity." Lester Brown of the Earth Policy Institute says that biofuels pit the 800 million people with cars against the 800 million people with hunger problems. Four years ago, two University of Minnesota researchers predicted the ranks of the hungry would drop to 625 million by 2025; last year, after adjusting for the inflationary effects of biofuels, they increased their prediction to 1.2 billion.
Industry advocates say that as farms increase crop yields, as has happened throughout history, they won't need as much land. They'll use less energy, and they'll use farm waste to generate electricity. To which Searchinger says: Wonderful! But growing fuel is still an inefficient use of good cropland. Strange as it sounds, we're better off growing food and drilling for oil. Sure, we should conserve fuel and buy efficient cars, but we should keep filling them with gas if the alternatives are dirtier.
The lesson behind the math is that on a warming planet, land is an incredibly precious commodity, and every acre used to generate fuel is an acre that can't be used to generate the food needed to feed us or the carbon storage needed to save us. Searchinger acknowledges that biofuels can be a godsend if they don't use arable land. Possible feedstocks include municipal trash, agricultural waste, algae and even carbon dioxide, although none of the technologies are yet economical on a large scale. Tilman even holds out hope for fuel crops - he's been experimenting with Midwestern prairie grasses - as long as they're grown on "degraded lands" that can no longer support food crops or cattle.
Changing the Incentives
That's certainly not what's going on in Brazil. There's a frontier feel to the southern Amazon right now. Gunmen go by names like Lizard and Messiah, and Carter tells harrowing stories about decapitations and castrations and hostages. Brazil has remarkably strict environmental laws - in the Amazon, landholders are permitted to deforest only 20% of their property - but there's not much law enforcement. I left Kotok to see Blairo Maggi, who is not only the soybean king of the world, with nearly half a million acres (200,000 hectares) in the province of Mato Grosso, but also the region's governor. "It's like your Wild West right now," Maggi says. "There's no money for enforcement, so people do what they want."
Maggi has been a leading pioneer on the Brazilian frontier, and it irks him that critics in the U.S. - which cleared its forests and settled its frontier 125 years ago but still provides generous subsidies to its farmers - attack him for doing the same thing except without subsidies and with severe restrictions on deforestation. Imagine Iowa farmers agreeing to keep 80% - or even 20% - of their land in native prairie grass. "You make us sound like bandits," Maggi tells me. "But we want to achieve what you achieved in America. We have the same dreams for our families. Are you afraid of the competition?"
Maggi got in trouble recently for saying he'd rather feed a child than save a tree, but he's come to recognize the importance of the forest. "Now I want to feed a child and save a tree," he says with a grin. But can he do all that and grow fuel for the world as well? "Ah, now you've hit the nail on the head." Maggi says the biofuel boom is making him richer, but it's also making it harder to feed children and save trees. "There are many mouths to feed, and nobody's invented a chip to create protein without growing crops," says his pal Homero Pereira, a congressman who is also the head of Mato Grosso's farm bureau. "If you don't want us to tear down the forest, you better pay us to leave it up!"
Everyone I interviewed in Brazil agreed: the market drives behavior, so without incentives to prevent deforestation, the Amazon is doomed. It's unfair to ask developing countries not to develop natural areas without compensation. Anyway, laws aren't enough. Carter tried confronting ranchers who didn't obey deforestation laws and nearly got killed; now his nonprofit is developing certification programs to reward eco-sensitive ranchers. "People see the forest as junk," he says. "If you want to save it, you better open your pocketbook. Plus, you might not get shot."
The trouble is that even if there were enough financial incentives to keep the Amazon intact, high commodity prices would encourage deforestation elsewhere. And government mandates to increase biofuel production are going to boost commodity prices, which will only attract more investment. Until someone invents that protein chip, it's going to mean the worst of everything: higher food prices, more deforestation and more emissions.
Advocates are always careful to point out that biofuels are only part of the solution to global warming, that the world also needs more energy-efficient lightbulbs and homes and factories and lifestyles. And the world does need all those things. But the world is still going to be fighting an uphill battle until it realizes that right now, biofuels aren't part of the solution at all. They're part of the problem.
Corn Cant Save Us (March 18, 2008) http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/03/18/7746/
Dwindling foreign oil, rising prices at the gas pump and hype from politically well-connected U.S. agribusiness have combined to create a frenzied rush to convert food grains into ethanol fuel. The move is badly conceived and ill advised. Corporate spin and pork barrel legislation aside, here, by the numbers, are the scientific reasons why corn wont provide our energy needs: CLIP
You might feel fine, but high oil cost, scarcity mean American Empire is about to come crashing down
Guy R. McPherson - University of Arizona professor
April 5, 2008
Peak oil spells the end of civilization. And, if it's not already too late, perhaps it will prevent the extinction of our species.
M. King Hubbert, a petroleum geologist employed by Shell Oil Co., described peak oil in 1956. Production of crude oil, like the production of many non-renewable resources, follows a bell-shaped curve. The top of the curve is termed "peak oil," or "Hubbert's peak," and it represents the halfway point for production.
The bell-shaped curve applies at all levels, from field to country to planet. After discovery, production ramps up relatively quickly. But when the light, sweet crude on top of the field runs out, increased energy and expense are required to extract the underlying heavy, sour crude. At some point, the energy required to extract a barrel of oil exceeds the energy contained in barrel of oil, so the pumps shut down.
Most of the world's oil pumps are about to shut down.
We have sufficient supply to keep the world running for 30 years or so, at the current level of demand. But that's irrelevant because the days of inexpensive oil are behind us. And the American Empire absolutely demands cheap oil. Never mind the 3,000-mile Caesar salad to which we've become accustomed. Cheap oil forms the basis for the 12,000-mile supply chain underlying the "just-in-time" delivery of plastic toys from China.
There goes next year's iPod.
In 1956, Hubbert predicted the continental United States would peak in 1970. He was correct, and the 1970s gave us a small, temporary taste of the sociopolitical and economic consequences of expensive oil.
We passed the world oil peak in 2005, and we've been easing down the other side by acquiring oil at the point of a gun - actually, guns are the smallest of the many weapons we're using - paying more for oil and destroying one culture after another as the high price of crude oil forces supply disruptions and power outages in Third World countries.
The world peaked at 74.3 million barrels per day in May 2005. The two-year decline to 73.2 million barrels per day produced a doubling of the price of crude. Later this year, we fall off the oil-supply cliff, with global supply plummeting below 70 million barrels/day. Oil at merely $100 per barrel will seem like the good old days.
Within a decade, we'll be staring down the barrel of a crisis: Oil at $400 per barrel brings down the American Empire, the project of globalization and water coming through the taps. Never mind happy motoring through the never-ending suburbs in the Valley of the Sun. In a decade, unemployment will be approaching 100 percent, inflation will be running at 1,000 percent and central heating will be a pipe dream.
In short, this country will be well on its way to the post-industrial Stone Age.
After all, no alternative energy sources scale up to the level of a few million people, much less the 6.5 billion who currently occupy Earth. Oil is necessary to extract and deliver coal and natural gas. Oil is needed to produce solar panels and wind turbines, and to maintain the electrical grid.
Ninety percent of the oil consumed in this country is burned by airplanes, ships, trains and automobiles. You can kiss goodbye groceries at the local big-box grocery store: Our entire system of food production and delivery depends on cheap oil.
If you're alive in a decade, it will be because you've figured out how to forage locally.
The death and suffering will be unimaginable. We have come to depend on cheap oil for the delivery of food, water, shelter and medicine. Most of us are incapable of supplying these four key elements of personal survival, so trouble lies ahead when we are forced to develop means of acquiring them that don't involve a quick trip to Wal-Mart.
On the other hand, the forthcoming cessation of economic growth is truly good news for the world's species and cultures. In addition, the abrupt halt of fossil-fuel consumption may slow the warming of our planetary home, thereby preventing our extinction at our own hand.
Our individual survival, and our common future, depends on our ability to quickly make other arrangements. We can view this as a personal challenge, or we can take the Hemingway out. The choice is ours.
For individuals interested in making other arrangements, it's time to start acquiring myriad requisite skills. It is far too late to save civilization for 300 million Americans, much less the rest of the planet's citizens, but we can take joy in a purpose-filled, intimate life.
It's time to push away from the shore, to let the winds of change catch the sails of our leaky boat.
It's time to trust in ourselves, our neighbors and the Earth that sustains us all.
Painful though it might be, it's time to abandon the cruise ship of empire in exchange for a lifeboat.

Rising food prices could cause worldwide turmoil, UN warns (April 8, 2008) http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/foreign/display.var.2181898.0.Rising_food_prices_could_cause_worldwide_turmoil_UN_warns.php
Continuing rising food prices could cause unrest and political instability worldwide, the UN's top humanitarian official warned yesterday. John Holmes, the undersecretary general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief co-ordinator, made his remarks at a conference in Dubai addressing challenges to humanitarian work. "The security implications (of the food crisis) should also not be underestimated as food riots are already being reported across the globe," he said. "Current food price trends are likely to increase sharply both the incidence and depth of food insecurity," he said, noting a 40% average rise worldwide since mid-2007. Holmes said the biggest challenge to humanitarian work is the effects of climate change and the resulting "extreme weather" which has doubled the number of recorded disasters from an average of 200 a year to 400 year in the past two decades. Adding food scarcity and expensive fuel to the mix have made for a very volatile situation, he explained. One of the factors pushing food prices higher and sparking protests all over the world is more expensive diesel fuel, which is used to transport most of the world's food. Just on Monday there were riots over food scarcity in Haiti, clashes with police over high prices in northern Egypt and in Jordan UN employees staged a strike for pay raises due to a 50% rise in prices. John M Powell, the deputy executive director of the UN's World Food Programme emphasised the need for the developed world to help developing countries. "Riots today mean you need a solution tomorrow," Powell said. In the past natural disasters, wars and ethnic conflict made the rural areas most vulnerable to hunger. Now the most vulnerable live in the cities, Powell said. "They see food on the shelves but they cannot afford to buy it," said Powell, calling urban poverty the "new face of hunger".

No, not that. Or that or that or that. It's that other thing, deeper, crazier, intuitive
By Mark Morford, SF Gate Columnist
April 4, 2008
Nope, it's not what you might think. The best thing about Barack Obama has almost nothing to do with him as a person or as a leader or even as Oh My God The First Black President Who Could Really Change Everything I Mean Wow. It's not even the wondrous oratory power or the charisma or the sweet sense of deeper change overlaid with all kinds of sparkly utopian futuriffic goodness.
There is, I think, something more. Something richer. And it's rather startling.
See, I've read the profiles and the liberal fawnings and the intelligent analysis, the attempted takedowns and the right-wing smears, all the valiant attempts to dig up something dirty or problematic or frightening about Obama and his family, his past, his middle name, his beliefs and his pastor and his favorite flavor of ice cream attempts that, rather amusingly, have all failed.
I've read, too, the glut of wonderment, how Obama is this generation's JFK, how he makes Hillary Clinton's brand of retro cronyist politics feel like the equivalent of rubbing salt on a paper cut. He is, they say, that once-in-a-lifetime candidate, a fantastically rare mix of intelligence, consistency, inspiration, hope, charisma, humanity, articulation, and an almost shocking lack of manipulation and sheen (well, relatively speaking), all packaged in a strikingly handsome unit in whose closet apparently live almost no skeletons at all.
I also nodded in agreement when snark-master Jon Stewart appeared slightly stunned and taken aback and very nearly jokeless as he pointed out, following Obama's remarkable speech on race in America, that at long last, here was a top-tier politician who dared to speak to us like we were adults. It wasn't just refreshing; after seven-plus years of humiliating, monosyllabic dumb-guy Bushisms, it was downright jarring.
And I even enjoyed the overall assessment that the fact that Obama is untested and inexperienced in the higher and more dire realms of government is actually a good thing, just the kind of wild card we crave and need, given how he shows absolutely zero signs that he'd screw it up, not to mention how the last thing anyone really wants is more of the same old-school, inbred crap we've had for decades.
Still, this wasn't what riveted me the most about Obama, still not what's most fascinating about this moment in political history. It was still something more.
Initially I thought the most impressive aspect of Obama's run was, well, how the guy made it this far at all. That someone of his caliber and obvious intelligence could survive what has become a truly caustic, brutal political system and still emerge into the international spotlight as, well, not deeply fed-up and insane, not possessing that creepy demonic gleam shared by so many politicos (hi, Sen. McCain!) that suggests they've had souls eaten whole by the same scabrous trolls of greed and war and corruption that birthed two Bushes and gave Bill Clinton that nearly intolerable aura of ego and slickness.
See, I've long believed that, if nearly eight years of the World's Worst President has taught us anything, it's that the American political system has moved well beyond merely deeply flawed and broken and sad, and is now wholly rotted, ruined from the inside out, a true moral wasteland barely suitable even for cockroaches and leeches and Rick Santorum. I thought George W. Bush had actually managed to do the impossible: make an already defective system truly unbearable, turning something already gray and murky to turgid and pathetic, toxic to all decent human life.
And I'm happy to report that the fact that Obama exists at this stage of the game is proving me very wrong indeed.
But I'll even take it a step further. Because the greatest thing about Obama isn't really about Obama at all, per se. It's actually about, well, us.
This is the great revelation: We still got it. The collective unconscious, the deep sense of inner wisdom, that intuitive knowing that borders on a kind of mystical proficiency, where millions of people can actually look beyond rhetoric and media spin and merely feel the presence of something great in the room? Yep, still there. Who knew?
See, this is what I hear most from relatives and readers and friends and newborn activists who were never activists before: Obama speaks to the intuition. It's about the sixth sense. It's not just what he says or how he behaves in the debates or the policy wonking or the "Change" banners or any of the typical, tangible factors although those have proven to be remarkably positive, too.
It's this: People feel it. They hear an Obama speech or read the articles or talk to like-minded folk, and they squint their eyes and weigh everything and then dismiss all that surface crap and get that look on their face that says, you know what? This guy gets it. He feels right. It's not a trick of light. It's not complete bulls. It's not the usual spin and manipulation and fakery. There is actual meat on this bone. What a thing.
Of course, I've plenty of readers who are die-hard cynics and jaded anarchists who say: What the f is wrong with you? Can't you see it's just another vicious ploy? All candidates at this level are essentially the same, interchangeable, all abhorrent simply by default because when you reach that stage of the game there is simply no way to avoid deep corruption and rampant lies. They tell me that even just to write a column like this is akin to merely washing the windows in your little pod in "The Matrix." Sure, the world may seem shinier, but you're still just buying into the same old revolting corporate/military machine.
After all, once the vipers of big money and big oil and military spending and corporate cronyism get their fangs sunk in, it's pretty much "game over" for any candidate's remaining integrity. Has Mr. Perfect Obama spoken out against the insidious Patriot Act or taken on the absurd farm subsidies or talked up issues of global warming? No he has not. As nice and smart as he may be, strip away all the fawning and the oratory tricks and give him a year in office and boom, just another corrupted, compromised former visionary. Right?
Whatever. I'm not buying it. At least, not yet. For the moment, I trust the collective intuition. I trust the shockingly widespread sense, not merely of hope and change, but of collective wisdom swimming though the air like an electrical surge between every smart, creative person on the planet right now, a bolt of energy that says: Hey, we're still together. We still got it. Smart, intuitive people are still a force. There is life in the revolution yet.
And Obama? He gets it, too. Hell, he may have kindled it anew, all by himself. Either way, it's back. And it's powerful. And that, to me, is the most hopeful thing of all.
Reality check: Two bad choices (10 min Video) http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/298.html

THE WIDESPREAD USE OF CELL PHONES WITH OVER 3 BILLION USERS WORLDWIDE IS A HORRIFIC TIME BOMB!
Brain expert warns of huge rise in tumours and calls on industry to take immediate steps to reduce radiation.
Young people are at particular risk from exposure to radiation.
Mobile phones could kill far more people than smoking or asbestos, a study by an award-winning cancer expert has concluded. He says people should avoid using them wherever possible and that governments and the mobile phone industry must take "immediate steps" to reduce exposure to their radiation.
The study, by Dr Vini Khurana, is the most devastating indictment yet published of the health risks.
It draws on growing evidence exclusively reported in the IoS in October that using handsets for 10 years or more can double the risk of brain cancer. Cancers take at least a decade to develop, invalidating official safety assurances based on earlier studies which included few, if any, people who had used the phones for that long.
Earlier this year, the French government warned against the use of mobile phones, especially by children. Germany also advises its people to minimise handset use, and the European Environment Agency has called for exposures to be reduced.
Professor Khurana a top neurosurgeon who has received 14 awards over the past 16 years, has published more than three dozen scientific papers reviewed more than 100 studies on the effects of mobile phones. He has put the results on a brain surgery website, and a paper based on the research is currently being peer-reviewed for publication in a scientific journal.
He admits that mobiles can save lives in emergencies, but concludes that "there is a significant and increasing body of evidence for a link between mobile phone usage and certain brain tumours". He believes this will be "definitively proven" in the next decade.
Noting that malignant brain tumours represent "a life-ending diagnosis", he adds: "We are currently experiencing a reactively unchecked and dangerous situation." He fears that "unless the industry and governments take immediate and decisive steps", the incidence of malignant brain tumours and associated death rate will be observed to rise globally within a decade from now, by which time it may be far too late to intervene medically.
"It is anticipated that this danger has far broader public health ramifications than asbestos and smoking," says Professor Khurana, who told the IoS his assessment is partly based on the fact that three billion people now use the phones worldwide, three times as many as smoke. Smoking kills some five million worldwide each year, and exposure to asbestos is responsible for as many deaths in Britain as road accidents.
Late last week, the Mobile Operators Association dismissed Khurana's study as "a selective discussion of scientific literature by one individual". It believes he "does not present a balanced analysis" of the published science, and "reaches opposite conclusions to the WHO and more than 30 other independent expert scientific reviews".
NOTE from Jean: The cell phone industry will be bankrupted through hyper-costly litigations, so don't expect them to do anything but playing ostrich with that fast-expanding crisis. As for the WHO (World health Organization) it has been infiltrated by cell phone industry lobbyists and is no more reliable than the notoriously corrupted FDA. Regarding the so-called "independent" expert scientific reviews, everyone who digs a bit soon find out they have been paid for by the cell phone industry and were designed to avoid finding anything wrong with this VERY profitable industry. When the whole truth is finally known about this extremely dangerous reliance and even addiction to cell phones around the world, people will be horrified by the extent of the carelessness, corruption and naive stupidity that led over 3,000,000,000 human beings to trust these deadly devices are safe. The mainstream media are also to be blamed for this global situation because very few of them dared explore this issue to expose the truth and make people aware of the unacceptable risks they take every time they use a cell phone (handless or other wise), let their kids use it or even simply live in a city environment that is saturated with levels of electromagnetic radiations several millions of times stronger than the natural background level. This situation has been know for several years now to those who simply pay attention to the countless warnings issued by scientists and activists about the Pandora box cell phones represent.
Phone makers own scientists discover that bedtime use can lead to headaches, confusion and depression (January 24, 2008) http://cellphonesafety.wordpress.com/2008/01/24/mobile-phone-radiation-wrecks-your-sleep/
Radiation from mobile phones delays and reduces sleep, and causes headaches and confusion, according to a new study . The research, sponsored by the mobile phone companies themselves, shows that using the handsets before bed causes people to take longer to reach the deeper stages of sleep and to spend less time in them, interfering with the bodys ability to repair damage suffered during the day. The findings are especially alarming for children and teenagers, most of whom surveys suggest use their phones late at night and who especially need sleep. Their failure to get enough can lead to mood and personality changes, ADHD-like symptoms, depression, lack of concentration and poor academic performance. The study carried out by scientists from the blue-chip Karolinska Institute and Uppsala University in Sweden and from Wayne State University in Michigan, USA is thought to be the most comprehensive of its kind . Published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technologys Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium and funded by the Mobile Manufacturers Forum, representing the main handset companies, it has caused serious concern among top sleep experts, one of whom said that there was now more than sufficient evidence to show that the radiation affects deep sleep.
BLOOD PHONES by William Thomas http://www.willthomasonline.net/willthomasonline/Blood_Phones.html
The next time your cell phone rings and you bring it up to your ear, listen closely. You may be able to hear the muted screams of women and girls being raped by greed-crazed, frightened men intent on obtaining a tiny piece of mineral used in your phone. It's called coltan. And the frenzied rush for its extraction in strip mines across the Congo is exploiting children, razing pristine forests, endangering rare mountain gorillas - and has already led to the rape and horrific mutilation of more than 250,000 women as old as 75 and girls as young as three. I could not bring myself to show the picture of a soldiers' hacking off the severed stump of a raped, naked woman with his knife. Abbreviated for columbine tantalite, coltan is in huge and growing demand by high tech industries rushing to meet the consumer frenzy for clever, brain numbing gadgets. Its high melting point and resistance to corrosion coupled with its unique ability to conduct heat and electricity make coltan particularly prized in cell phones, as well as wireless laptop computers, TVs and other consumer "bads" marketed and sold as "goods". Coltan is mainly extracted from chopped down Congo forests, where strip-mining is carried out by workers, many of them children. More than 10,000 people have abandoned their farms and urban centers and moved into the Kahuzi-Biega National Park to cut down the pristine forest, home of endangered gorillas, and mine coltan under the direction of rebels, who continue raping women as "needed". [IUCN Apr 23/01; Global Witness 2004; World Rainforest Movement Nov 14/05; assets.panda.org; PRNewswire] THE GREATEST SILENCE - Michael Winship met Lisa Jackson while working in television in Washington, DC. Showing on HBO, Jackson's latest TV documentary - "The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo" - exposes what Winship terms, "the unimaginable human tragedy in the third largest nation on the African continent. "As underreported as the horrific genocide in Darfur, Somalia, has been, it's front-page, headline news compared to the untold, unbearable and far vaster suffering of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Civil war began there in 1997 and has never really ceased. Further fueled by neighboring rebels from Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda, this is the deadliest conflict since World War II, with four million killed in a decade of fighting and an estimated more than 250,000 women and children raped." THE GREATEST SILENCE: RAPE IN THE CONGO - Synopsis http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/thegreatestsilence/synopsis.html
(...) The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo challenges audiences to wonder what dark forces are at work in a world that has tolerated such atrocities without offering victims either solace or justice. Greed seems to be one factor; criminal groups appear to be fanning the flames of civil war to perpetuate instability in the region while they plunder eastern Congo's natural riches of diamonds, gold and coltan (a metal used in cellphones and laptops). As many of the interviewees attest, systematic rape is an effective way to destroy the fabric of society. Yet those in power, as well as powerful nations like the U.S., are doing little to prevent this outrage. "Is there something about sexual violence that makes us all turn away?" asks Jackson. "In what inhuman context does rape become intentional, programmatic, a weapon of choice? Where are the voices of the women themselves? If they tell their stories, will others listen?"
"The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo" http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/040108H.shtml
Writing for Truthout, Michael Winship discusses Lisa Jackson's film, "The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo." He writes: "The title comes from the lead sentence of 'Women, War and Peace,' a 2002 United Nations report that began, 'Violence against women in conflict is one of history's great silences.' Lisa set out to visit and film several of the theaters of war described in the report, but when she made her initial stop in the Democratic Republic of Congo she realized, as she says, 'the first was the worst.'"
Slowing Deforestation May Be Worth Billions http://www.truthout.org/issues_06/040808EA.shtml
Alister Doyle of Reuters reports: "A slowdown of deforestation from the Amazon to the Congo basin could generate billions of dollars every year for developing nations as part of a UN scheme to fight climate change, a study showed on Monday."

Thanks for passing this article along to your list. It is a lonely fight out here ...
I have attached Paul Doyon's most recent updated article that I had posted on Rense.com recently.
People have to WAKE UP and realize that what they are doing is destroying ALL LIFE FORMS on this planet. Like DU, or GMO crops, or trashing the oceans with plastic ... wireless is simply NOT "sustainable" without literally wiping out life on this planet.
Are The Microwaves Killing the Insects, Frogs, and Birds? And Are We Next?
By Paul Raymond Doyon - February 18th, 2008
I live in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, The People's Republic of China. Yunnan Province is one of the cleanest and most pristine areas of China - and Kunming City is also called the City of Eternal Spring since the weather here is quite pleasant throughout the year. However, it might as well be called The City of The Silent Spring.
It is eerily odd but this city is strangely devoid of bugs - I see virtually no insects in this city - except for the occasional mosquito or the occasional cockroach. No ants, no spiders, no butterflies, no bees, no flies, no caterpillars, and so on down the line. I also see virtually no birds - I look up in the sky and there are no birds traversing it. When I go to bed at night I do not hear the sounds of crickets; and when I wake up in the morning I do not hear the chirping sound of birds.
And from what I can tell by reading media reports on the Internet, this phenomena of the sudden disappearance of life forms (insects, amphibians, fish, bats, birds, etc.) is happening all over the world. Just last year, the fact that there is (and has been) a worldwide die-off of bees was finally taken up by the media. The frogs have been dying for years - (although originally they were mysteriously showing up with deformities). Now, just at the beginning of January 2008 a Swedish journalist sent me a report by the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) about the disappearance of tens of millions of birds across North America - http://rawstory.com/rawreplay/?p=372.
What the heck is going on? And when are we going to do something about this? This is pretty serious stuff. If all the insects, amphibians, and birds are disappearing, how much longer will it be until we mammals start disappearing? (After all, many of us are already getting sick. There are about 80 immune system disorders we didn't have 20 years ago.) Albert Einstein made some kind of prediction that once the bees are gone, mankind would only have four or so more years left.
While the CBC report mentioned things like pesticides, urban sprawl, factory farming, deforestation, and so on, as possible causes, they conveniently failed to mention one other highly likely reason - Microwave Radiation from Cell Phone Antennas (which the CBC also conveniently installs on its own towers - a visible sign of CBC's cushy relationship with the cell phone industry and perhaps the reason they failed to mention the latter possible - if not probable - reason for the Avian Decline).
While the media is failing to direct our attention at the possible real cause of this extremely ominous situation - possibly because of its lucrative and cushy relationships with the mobile phone industry - one agency of the United States government is taking a more sober interest into this grave problem. Under the auspices of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS) and under the direction of Albert M. Manville II, Ph.D., Senior Wildlife Biologist, Division of Migratory Bird Management, the following report was issued on May 10th, 2007:
Attached is one more short, but very important notification (BioPro's Fabricated Science Fiction: From Dr. Carlo), again from Paul Doyon who has been corresponding with Dr. George Carlo, whose personal letter was quoted in Paul's article, "Are The Microwaves Killing the Insets, Frogs, and Birds? And Are We Next?"
I would hope you have the room to post it right after the above. For those who don't go to the link to read the remainder of Paul's article, I recommend they think long and hard on these closing words from his article:
"So what can we do? Life on this planet evolved over millions of years and -- now -- is being threatened by a mass unconsciousness! On one end, we have the greed -- and hence deception -- of the extremely rich and powerful mobile-phone industry. On the other hand, we have a mass stupidity and selfishness -- and hence denial -- of people who are so addicted to their little Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) that they refuse to give them up.
"A severe crime is being committed by a cell-phone-toting humanity against all life on this planet. The only true solution is for us to give up our electromagnetic toys and demand that the towers-of-death be removed, dismantled, and demolished. However, whether or not this will indeed happen will depend on the level of consciousness of the population. If it doesn't then we will face severe problems including severe shortages of food -- to say the least. Change has to begin with us if we are going to take responsibility. Only the irresponsible will expect someone to come along and save them or rather resort to blaming others when the shit hits the fan. We really do need to get rid of these death-ray devices and encourage everyone else we know to do the same until the powers-that-be find a safe (or safer) alternative -- e.g. fiber-optics proposed by the late biophysicist Dr. Neil Cherry and presently promulgated by Dr. George Carlo. If we don't, it won't be much longer until we follow the path of the birds and the bees -- and there will be no one to blame but ourselves!" [End quote]
I have a number of friends who, in their selfish desire to continue using their dangerous cell phones and PDAs (probably because they are truly "addicted"), obtained BioPro "chips" to place on their devices in the mistaken belief they were protecting themselves from harm. Of course, they ALL ignored the fact that anyone around them is being damaged and that they are funding the installation of cell towers and cell antennae everywhere around us so that they can have their "signal" to make cell phone calls ... towers that are broadcasting their life-destroying radio-frequency microwaves 24 / 7. I pointed this out to them but their lack of consideration, unconsciousness and selfishness, along with their misplaced "belief" in their "protection chips", allowed them to justify their addiction. Now, with this admission of Dr. Carlo that those "protection chips" are basically a "fraud" ... they will have to face reality.
Some people appear to have an almost pathological emotional attachment to their cell phones and there is a fascinating suggestion that cell radiation pulses might actually be addictive to the human brain. We can't save those who would rather die than switch. But ethics compelled us to ensure that all reasonable people have access to the basic scientific facts.
Your cell phone is a microwave transmitter and it should bear a cancer warning! Microwave energy oscillates at millions to billions of cycles per second. The Journal of Cellular Biochemistry reports that these frequencies cause cancer and other diseases by interfering with cellular DNA and its repair mechanisms. Microwave promotes rapid cell aging. Italian scientists have recently demonstrated that cell phone radiation makes cancerous cells grow aggressively. Cordless phones marked 900 megahertz or 2.4 gigahertz emit the same dangerous microwave radiation as cell phones.
The connection between microwave exposure and cancer has been documented for years. During the Cold War, the Soviets irradiated the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia, with low level, twin-beam microwave radiation. Two successive ambassadors developed leukemia. Other staffers also developed cancer, or their blood showed DNA damage, which precedes cancer.
Research by University of Washington professor Dr. Henry Lai shows brain cells are clearly damaged by microwave levels far below the U.S. government's "safety" guidelines. Dr. Lai notes that even tiny doses of radio frequency can cumulate over time and lead to harmful effects. He warns that public exposure to ! radiation from wireless transmitters "should be limited to a minimal."
Motorola advises consumers to avoid pointing a cellular antenna toward exposed parts of the body. But independent tests show that cell phones can also leak huge amounts of radiation from the keypad and mouthpiece. This radiation deeply penetrates brain, ear and eye tissues, which are especially susceptible to microwave damage. Belt clip cases allow cell phones to deliver radiation to the liver or kidney areas when a wired, hands-free earpiece is used.
Recent studies confirm that cell and cordless phone microwave can:
- Damage nerves in the scalp
- Cause blood cells to leak hemoglobin
- Cause memory loss and mental confusion
- Cause headaches and induce extreme fatigue
- Create joint pain, muscle spasms and tremors
- Create burning sensation and rash on the skin
- Alter the brain's electrical activity during sleep
- Induce ringing in the ears, impair sense of smell
- Precipitate cataracts, retina damage and eye cancer
- Open the blood-brain barrier to viruses and toxins
- Reduce the number and efficiency of white blood cells
- Stimulate asthma by producing histamine in mast cells
- Cause digestive problems and raise bad cholesterol levels
- Stress the endocrine system, especially pancreas, thyroid, ovaries, testes
In 1993, the telecom industry committed $25 million dollars for a series of research projects designed to prove that cell phones are safe. The studies proved just the opposite! They proved that federal microwave exposure standards are dangerously inadequate. Cell damage and tumors can be easily induced in the lab at about one third of the FCC's exposure guidelines.
The telecom boys panicked. They and their lackey politicians and federal regulators decided the only lucrative thing to do was to LIE and DENY. Despite damning evidence, the FDA still prevaricates: "There is no reason to conclude that there are health risks posed by cell phones to consumers." Meantime, the telecom industry has been pressing to INCREASE BY MORE THAN 10 TIMES the allowable human exposure to cell phone radiation!
Luckily, Dr. George Carlo headed up the industry's study project. He presents the shocking facts in his book, Cell Phones: Invisible Hazards in the Wireless Age: An Insider's Alarming Discoveries About Cancer and Genetic Damage (Carroll and Graf, 2001). A summary of Dr. Carlo's book is this: Cell phones are hot, adequate protective regulations are naught, and Americans are being "fried" so that the deceitful telecom industry can rake it in! It's dirty business as usual, and the longer the industry can con the public, the more billions it collects.
On June 16, 2002 , CBS aired a Sixty Minutes segment which confirmed the telecom industry is about as grungy as it gets. CBS producers accused major phone service providers of cheating, scamming, forging signatures, switching phone service without permission and lying about charges. The attorney general of Connecticut stated that despite millions of dollars in fines each year, these companies remain incorrigible. Should we be trusting this industry with our brain tissues and our very lives?
Microwave to the head is extremely hazardous to children. Parents in some European nations are now warned to keep children away from cell phones. A University of Utah researcher found the younger the child, the more radiation is absorbed by the brain. Spanish researchers have shown that cell phones can alter electrical activity of a child's brain for hours, causing drastic mood changes and possible behavior and learning disabilities. Scientists fear that cell phone radiation could damage human embryos. Pregnant women are advised to be wary.
A cell phone must greatly increase its field strength to maintain communications within the metallic cage of an auto. Thus, the effect of microwave radiation inside a vehicle is especially intense. Volkswagen of Europe has warned that cell phone usage inside a car can be "injurious to health due to the extremely high electromagnetic fields generated."
Insurance studies in England showed that an average driver talking on a cell is actually more impaired in function and reaction time than a drunk. Finland's Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority reports that one hour of exposure to mobile phone radiation can cause human cells to shrink. Researchers believe this is due to increased protein activity, an indicator of cell damage. What an unstable world needs now is a global population afflicted with incredible shrinking brains!
Brain cancer rates in USA have increased by 25% since 1975. In 2001, 185,000 Americans were diagnosed with some form of brain cancer. A grade four brain tumor can grow from the size of a grape to tennis ball size in just 4 months. Brain tumors are almost always fatal and most people die within 6-12 months after diagnosis. On April 7, 2002, Sixty Minutes aired a fascinating report on brain cancer, explaining that scientists are unsure why incidence of the disease is growing so exponentially.
Ironically, the segment was followed by a Sprint ad, which advised parents that the best way to keep track of teenagers is to connect them to a cell phone. While researchers say that radical damage to the brain can occur within the first few minutes of conversation, telecom ads encourage customers to spend many hours on the phone each month. Those blazing, full-page cell phone ads in newspapers and magazines must be the reason cell phone dangers are almost never discussed in the mainstream media.
An excellent resource tool is Robert Kane's book Cellular Telephone Russian Roulette (Vantage Press, 2001). As a telecommunications expert, Kane presents an impressive collection of studies showing that both government agencies and cell phone manufacturers KNEW YEARS AGO that cell phone radiation at present exposure levels is dangerous to human health. He notes that cell! phones would be rendered useless if their RF emissions were reduced to safe levels.
Reports of illness from heavy cell phone usage and from living or working close to powerful RF transmitters are synchronous with numerous cancer-related lawsuits now being filed against the cell phone industry. The insurance industry sees big trouble ahead. Underwriters for Lloyd's of London refuse to insure phone manufacturers against damage to users' health. Cell phones are today what tobacco was 40 years ago.
Excellent web sites offering up-to-date scientific data on microwave and other radiation issues are:
Minimize your EMR exposure: Decrease hazardous risks.
1. Minimize all exposure and usage of wireless communication: cell phones, cordless phones, and WiFi devices.
2. Turn cell phone off when not in use and sleeping. Never keep it near your head or use it to play games, movies, etc.
3. Keep cell phone at least 6-7 inches away from your body and others while on, talking, texting and downloading.
4. Use air tube headsets or speaker mode when talking. Wireless and wired headsets still conduct radiation!
5. Never keep cell phone in pocket, purse, back or on hip all day. The hip produces 80% of the bodys red blood cells and is especially vulnerable to EMR damage.-Close proximity may also affect fertility.
6. Do not talk on cell or cordless phone when pregnant, with a baby/small child in arms, under age 16, or while in a vehicle (car, train, plane, subway) Radiation gets trapped and is higher in these closed metal zones! Minimize other EMR exposures to developing fetus via Ultrasounds and Electronic Fetal Monitoring unless absolutely necessary.
7. Replace all cordless and WiFi items with wired, corded lines (phones, Internet, games, appliances, devices, etc.). The cordless phone base emits high levels of EMR even when no one is making a call.
8. Minimize/space out computer use, sit back from the screen; flat screens are preferable. Use wired Internet connections, not WiFi especially for laptops. Keep laptops off of the body and away from metal surfaces.
9. Keep a low-EMR sleep, home, and personal zone. Move alarm clock radio at least 3 feet from head or use battery power; 6 feet is the recommended distance from all electronic devices during sleep. Avoid waterbeds, electric blankets and metal bed frames. Futons/wood frames are better than metal-coiled mattresses and box-springs.
10. When using electric stoves, cook on back burners instead of front, as much as possible. Metals attract EMR: keep them away from and off of the body. Use glass, cast iron and uncoated pans to cook with.
11. Measure EMR from wireless and wired devices with appropriate meters (see www.safewireless.org). To decrease exposures, install EMR filters and preventive technologies to electrical circuits, devices, appliances, etc.
Increase your bodys resistance to EMR damage: Maximize your health
1. Increase intake of natural oxidative stress fighters, such as antioxidants, melatonin, vitamins B, C, E and folic acid.
2. Eat fresh, chemical-free, organic meats, fruits and vegetables. Limit heavy metal buildup by knowing the source of your fish and other meats. Main sources of heavy metal ingestion are fish, poultry, meats and tap water. Eat organic whole grains test for allergic responses.
3. Eliminate/minimize caffeine and alcoholic beverages, especially distilled liquor.
4. Drink carbon filtered water. Primarily use glass or ceramic containers. Limit bottled water in plastic bottles. Use recycled paper products for drinking and eating; avoid plastic or Styrofoam.
5. Exercise and stretch daily to increase metabolism, not to train or work out. Breathe slowly and deeply. Surround yourself with nature as often as possible. Do sweat and clean lymph.
6. Minimize exposure to chemicals. Use chemical-free, natural products as they are often gentle on your body and the environment. Avoid chemical cleansers vinegar, salt and baking soda work extremely well. Take cool or lukewarm showers/baths, instead of hot.
7. Avoid/minimize exposure to bright and fluorescent light. Use subdued full-spectrum/natural incandescent bulbs or candle light as much as possible. Increase melatonin naturally by sleeping in the darkest room possible.
8. Get up to a couple hours of sun exposure daily unless Electrohypersensitivity wont allow it. When exposed, wear light-colored clothing and hat, if needed.
9. Take time daily for personal silence.
10. Consult a clinician experienced in EMR sensitivity. Use of any intervention must be under qualified supervision, as many devices may increase long-term sensitivity if used improperly.
1) Motorists who talk on cell phones are more impaired than drunk drivers with blood-alcohol levels exceeding .08.
2) Banging your head against a wall burns 150 calories an hour.
3) In some parts of the world, they protect their babies from disease by bathing them in beer.
4) The word gymnasium comes from the Greek word gymnazein, which means to exercise naked.
5) There are more than 1,000 chemicals in a cup of coffee; of these, only 26 have been tested, and half caused cancer in rats.
6) The average American eats at McDonalds more than 1,800 times in their life.
7) There are more bacteria in your mouth than there are people in the world.
8) According to U.S. FDA standards, 1 cup of orange juice is allowed to contain 10 fruit fly eggs, but only 2 maggots.
9) You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television.
10) It is possible to go blind from smoking too heavily.
11) Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people.
12) You are about 1 centimeter taller in the morning than in the evening.
13) During your lifetime, youll eat about 60,000 pounds of food -- thats the weight of about 6 elephants.

The last chapter to Ascension
By James Gilliland
I realized after joining the lecture circuit that very few people were on the circuit without ulterior motives or let us say less than pure intentions. After many of my lectures I seemed to have stepped on many toes by just revealing the truth given to me which seemed to totally contradict some of the others truth. Many people began with a genuine desire to assist in the awakening and healing of humanity and the Earth yet fame, notoriety and material acquisition took over as priority. They shifted from truth to half truths and feel good messages because they saw these messages generated the greatest crowds. Promises of wealth, material manifestation, the manifestation of love, joy, acceptance all though people, places and things, the outer world was a real money maker. They talked of heaven as a place to go rather than a consciousness to be and some in fundamental religions even promised those condos in heaven, harps and wings for a significant donation. There were those like vultures that hung around hospital beds with pen and contract in hand urging the dying to donate and insure their place in heaven. In truth it only insured the continuation of their dynasties on Earth.
I saw incredible judgment, condemnation and competition in the UFO and spiritual communities both groups not realizing the two were interwoven. In the beginning I was totally naive and surely if people heard the message of unity consciousness they would get behind and support it. It really made no sense to me for each person had an experience, was privy to some knowledge yet each believed they had the whole truth and all other truths were nonsense. Even imagination is real on the level of imagination or the mental planes so how can we say another persons reality or creation is invalid? Do we judge something to be true if it manifests on the physical level and not true if it is a non physical manifestation? Each experience was relative to the limited or unlimited ability of the observer in others words their ability to perceive. Each religion was based on an experience and people were gathered around that experience.
As we mentioned earlier there are over 11,000 religions with offshoots each with their own image and doctrine and in some cases each believing theirs is the correct and only one. Some even interpret the same doctrine differently and cannot get along with others using the very same book. The cosmic joke is all are correct, all are creating their own realities according to their beliefs and all realities exist within God which basically says as you wish. Why can't we allow others their beliefs, their creations and the experience or reaction to their actions? Why do we believe eternal souls are victims? How is it we are so easily motivated by fear to do things we know in our heart of hearts do not serve us or others nor are they aligned with our spiritual evolution? Not knowing what another soul needs for completion how can we judge the creations of others good or bad?
This is a very tough pill to swallow for saviors and victims yet it is the road to freedom. The endless savior, victim, persecutor triangle we have been playing out for eons ends with this knowledge. Personal responsibility, shifting from reactionary mind to creationary mind and becoming the observer with loving detachment is the key to ascension. Every Master mastered judgment. Every Master stepped out of social consciousness and became the observer. They focused on love, joy and bliss until they became it. They took the time to collapse time, meditated, prayed, spent long hours in nature outside of the confusion until the clarity came. They saw the Creator in all Creation and the dance of Creation in everyone and everything. They became centered, unshakeable in that love, joy and bliss becoming divine mirrors as to the God within everyone and everything.
Unfortunately they mirrored everything people loved and hated about themselves, sparked a lot of envy and jealousy as well as reflected back to others all that which is not in harmony. If one were to take stock in the world today the present civilization falls far short of the way of the Masters which is why the true Masters are deemed a threat and why so many have been done away with. To truly become a Master one must transcend all cultural and religious boundaries. All boarders, divisions, and hierarchies give way to a love with no boundaries. This becomes a threat to those maintaining the boundaries and divisions the greatest of which are the power elite within religions and governments.
So now you know the answer to why heaven is met with great resistance along with the enlightened ones who are paving the way for heaven on Earth. The Earth was created to be an Eden where everyone could evolve to their highest potential and live in harmony with each other and Nature. We are in the process of returning to that path ushered in by a power and force no man can stop. Nature will be the greatest challenge to those who wish to stop this process along with the awakening and empowering of the individual which is happening as we speak from within. The Temple is within, God is within and it is from within this process is unfolding. There will be many methods utilized from without as a futile attempt to stop or inhibit this process yet those involved are insuring their own fate which will be to experience all of the pain, suffering or loss of freedom they have imposed on others. Despite the arrogance of the elite the laws of the universe will have their way.
There is only one path to sustainability and that is to align with the awakening and healing process, cooperate in the highest and best good of humanity and the Earth, make your own personal, God, Spirit, Creator connection and shift into service. The greatest trap is me, the illusion of separation and all that comes with it such as greed, competition, selfishness and the endless quest for love, acceptance, and approval outside of self through outer appearances and material acquisition.
In the days to come all that which no longer serves you and is a distraction to your inward journey will be stripped away. The empires built at the expense of humanity and nature will fall. Those who have been willing participants in these empires will loose all ill gotten gain. Despite the efforts of man the empires of the elite will fall just as they have fallen away from the universal principles and understandings that are necessary for a healthy society and environment. They will be caught unaware due to their unawareness of a greater plan within a consciousness and energy they can no longer access. Even the animals know when a great storm is coming, a quake, even a tsunami and they will be your greatest teachers in the days to come. Watch them, they know what you have forgotten.
The Earth is going to heal, cleanse herself and go on and on. The extent and severity of the process is directly related to the shift of consciousness and action as well as the divine intervention offered to those who have risen to the occasion. Many will continue in denial on a path that is unsustainable with a heavy adverse impact on nature. They will live in the moment totally unprepared and oblivious to future moments. There will be those delivering the half truths, feel good messages telling people what they want to hear rather than what they need to hear. They will be in every walk and institution with the media at their beckon call which will spin, twist and deny the obvious. They will make promises they cannot keep all the while in complete denial of the changes unfolding around them. Rather than teaching personal responsibility and awareness of the condition of the environment, the Earth's need to cleanse and heal, the condition of society which includes an unsustainable economy on the verge of collapse, they will continue to deliver those feel good messages. Messages of how much they care and they are here to help yet in truth they only care about themselves and are helping themselves at the expense of humanity and the Earth.
The religions prey on seekers using their separate God with them as the go between and the Politicians prey on those living in denial desiring to be told the status quo shall go uninterrupted. It will be greatly interrupted for it is the status quo, social consciousness which needs the greatest reality check of all. There will be a great split between the upward spiral in evolution which will go on to the next adventure align with and create a world in which people live in harmony with each other and Nature. This group will take a quantum leap in evolution, join the rest of the universe in peace, experience health, longevity, and technologies beyond your wildest dreams. There will be the downward spiral where those who wish to continue in the separative elitist attitudes and lust for power and wealth at any expense will continue in the wars, diseases and eventually experience the social, economic and environmental collapse.
They will take with them all those who align with them as willing participants. That is the way it is now seen and it is all a matter of choice, choosing to step out of the confusion and chaos to tap into a consciousness that will support and inspire the upward spiral. For those in complete denial of the messages on high, Nature is going to push you, shake you, get your attention any and every way possible to reevaluate your path. Whatever it takes to get your attention. The experiences that validate that quiet voice within that gave you the feeling ahead of time something is coming, a change is in the wind, I need to listen and act on that voice will manifest and soon everyone will come to listen. Those still in the physical body and those who crossed over in their light review will say, dam I felt something coming, I need to be a better listener and act on the inner guidance.
In meditation I was told it is time to move off the coasts, simplify and become sovereign. Choose the upward spiral and live in harmony with each other and the Earth. Know thyself not the programmed personality and move out of social consciousness and into Christ Consciousness. Release the past for there will be a division of worlds. The days of the beast are coming to a close. Become your own prophet.
TIME MAGAZINE: Blips on the Scopes (August 04, 1952) http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,822408,00.html
Barnes laughed at first, but the blips kept popping up all over the scope. They sometimes hovered, sometimes flew slowly and sometimes incredibly fast. Technicians checked the radar; it was in good working order. Over the White House. Barnes began to get worried when he saw the blips apparently flying over the White House and other prohibited areas. He called the airport control tower. Sure enough, its radar showed the strange blips too. When the towermen measured the speed of a fast blip, they found that it had flown for eight miles at 7,200 m.p.h. (...) All the rest of the week, a few strange blips appeared now & then. Then on Saturday night they broke out all over, crisscrossing the capital as they had the week before. This time, the radar at Andrews was seeing the things too. One blip hung over Boiling Field, across the Potomac from the airport, but observers at Boiling saw nothing in the sky. Some airline pilots saw mysterious lights; others saw nothing. The Saucer Flies Again. Down from Delaware roared another flight of night fighters. This time the blips did not vanish. They stayed on the ground scopes while the jets screamed among them. But only one pilot saw a light; another saw a doubtful blip on his scope. It vanished before he could shoot. What were the mysterious blips? The Air Force, unless it was trying to conceal some mysterious gadget of its own (e.g., a radar countermeasure), was as baffled as everyone else. As might be expected, the phantom invasion touched off a whole new rash of flying-saucer stories. But if the men from Mars were really overhead, the oddest part of the whole strange story was the fact that among all the conflicting reports, no radar outside of a ten-mile radius in Washington reported seeing anything unusual at any time.
What you do counts for little unless it is spiritually motivated. Intent as ever is the moving force that determines whether your actions contribute to your evolutionary progress. When you can see everyone as an aspect of yourself and treat them accordingly, you are elevating your consciousness to levels that lift you beyond the influences of duality. You are leaving behind the lower vibrations as they no longer serve your purpose, and again becoming that great spiritual Being that you always were. Once you have fully recognised your own spirituality, you will be ready for the final stages of Ascension.
Many of you are finding this year most opportune to advance, as you see that life itself is caught up in massive changes. All around you events will speed up, and it will be clear that a major upheaval is taking place. At first the outcome will not be clear, and chaotic happenings would seem to indicate a complete collapse of all that has become familiar. However, out of the gloom shall glow a light that brings a new opportunity for Man to move on. The means to this end will miraculously reveal themselves, and an end to the old paradigm will allow the new to manifest. All will eventually fulfil the plan that brings a most glorious peace, and will light up the path to the higher realms of sheer beauty and happiness.
Much of what is coming has been prophesied, but nothing will have quite prepared you for the magnificent times ahead. Progress will be unbridled and the most marvellous achievements will take place in little or no time. The pace of change will be exhilarating, and you will quickly take to the new innovations. Change there must be to lift you onto a path that is leading to the next stage towards Ascension. Ample guidance will come your way as great Beings come to Earth to play their part in a great upliftment. You have never been alone on your journey, and soon you shall be re-joined by those who have walked alongside you. In the past you have come together on the Earth, and names that appear in your history will come alive in front of you.
Take no heed of the fear mongers who are under the influence of the dark forces. They have not yet responded to their Light, but through their experiences will eventually find their way out of the labyrinth of darkness. You have all trodden the same pathways, but some have learnt their lessons much quicker. You choose the speed at which you evolve, and there is no disgrace in lagging behind. It would be of no gain to you if somehow you could be forced into the Light, as it is a series of steps and necessary to take them one at the time. However, all souls that are here now will be subconsciously opened up to the Light, and it is experience that is never wasted.
The lesson of life is in the understanding of love, and it has its roots in all human relationships. Not every union or partnership is true love, but it is the nearest parallel you will find on Earth. Karma sometimes draws people together in conditions that fulfil the need for certain type of experiences. Do not blame yourself for failure, but try to learn the lesson that it gives you. In many relationships there is little happiness or love, but it is still providing situations and challenges that will move you on. Remember, that everyone involved in your karmic experiences agreed to be part of them, some to clear their karma and others to bring Light and understanding.
Without the dark you would not appreciate the Light, and when your time in duality is completed you will be a far greater soul than when you first started. Fortunately your memories are shielded from the dark times, and once you ascend those memories will not follow with you. What is important is how far you have advanced into the Light, and the extent of your love and understanding. Loving Self is essential, and when you are able to do so without being egotistical you will be able to see self in others without reproach or guilt. Often what you find uncomfortable in another, is a reflection of some disharmony within you. Think on this, and perhaps you will see aspects of yourself as others see you.
We of the Galactic Federation make no judgement where your civilisation is concerned, as we come for the release and restoration of Mother Earth, and to help all souls prepare for the next part of their journey. We are well experienced in guiding civilisations through the Ascension process, and are prepared for any last minute changes we may have to make. We are however confident that the important changes we anticipate will soon commence. The focus is on the U.S. leadership, as it is here that many changes will be formulated, and carry out to the rest of the world.
We would ask if you really wanted to stay in the present world, subject to the ever-increasing controls of the dark? Without change it would lead to complete and utter desolation, and ultimately the death of the Earth. You know in your hearts that it is not your destiny, and in fact the final days of this cycle were decided eons of time ago. The Light has broken through the darkness and has brought a new wave of hope and expectation, as people sense the changes taking place now.
We are allowed to influence those Dear Ones working for the Light, and we guide them so that their actions help fulfil the plan for your release. Our allies are in all industries and military establishments, and they are preparing the ground for our victory. Our work is not so obvious as the actions of the dark, who throw caution aside to shore up their weakening position. They make little secret of their methods, yet fool you by creating the conditions that have made them necessary. This has been their tactic for a long time, but now you do not accept what they tell you without questioning their motives. Their subterfuge no longer works.
I am Atmos from Sirius, and your awakening has opened your eyes to what is happening around you. The past will be revealed to haunt the dark forces, and will be their undoing. There is no place to hide and their days are numbered, and their crimes known to us. Justice will prevail, and no one will escape retribution through denial. Love is the most powerful force in the Universe, the All That Is, and it is our motivation that accompanies our every action.
