The Big Scoop Series #15: Bush Mob Clan Chastised - But the Cabal Thrives
Hello everyone!
How to best introduce this long (over 41,500 words!) compilation touching on so many different topics? Well, first, by dispelling the BIG illusion that the Democrats' victory means any real change, through the following quote from Alex Jones - Taken from 9/11 Truth Is Dying Inside the Liberal and Progressive Movements :
"The talking points of elite sycophants Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean are reverberating across the political spectrum - no impeachment of Bush, no investigation of Iraq and no independent inquiry into 9/11. Establishment phonies who previously railed against Bush are lining up and following orders. Nancy Pelosi again repeated her assertion today that impeachment was "off the table," echoing Howard Dean's comments to the Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night that, "we're not gonna do that." (...) The proto-dictatorship could never have been put in place without the seminal event of 9/11 and it is imperative that the 9/11 truth movement not be pacified by a sham re-arranging of the deck chairs. We must push like never before for a new independent investigation of 9/11 and if Democrats stand in our way they will be considered collaborators and part of the cover-up. Where's the call to repeal the torture legislation? Where's the call to repeal the Patriot Act? Where's the call to stop the NSA spying on Americans? What we should be hearing is repeal, repeal, repeal, but instead it's betrayal, betrayal and more betrayal on the part of the brown nose Democrats. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."
Perhaps the Dems will have to change their stance as there is a very large movement to impeach George W. Bush as you can discover through this VERY comprehensive site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movement_to_impeach_George_W._Bush and check also "Nov. 11, 2006, Movement to Impeach Bush and Cheney Announced" at http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/impeach and a report on this Impeachment gathering - http://www.opednews.com/flyer/news_20061112_1.html - MSNBC poll: Should Bush be impeached? So far its running at 87% for -- It is time to appoint an Independent Prosecutor as is advocated at http://peaceinspace.blogs.com/911/
As for the massive fraud last Nov. 7, you'll hardly hear anything else on this since the Dems won anyway, but should the true scope of the massive rejection by the US voters of the criminally insane Bush policies be truly reflected in the electoral results, many of the issues mentioned in this compilation would probably evolved quite differently. You'll find numerous news excerpts and resources below exemplifying this vile corruption of democracy.
As for Rumsfeld's resignation, his proposed replacement, Robert Gates, former Director of the infamous CIA, has a decidedly dubious track record as you'll find in several excerpted articles below.
The planned war against Iran still appears to be very much on track as you'll see in War on Iran: Unleashing Armageddon in the Middle East "This is the largest amass ever of military power in the region, and it is gathering for a reason. (...) The powder keg is ready and all it needs is a match to ignite it."
Many other issues are covered: Gaza, past war crimes and genocides by the CIA, lots of environmental news and a very moving Great story with heart, just to mention a few.
So still plenty to pay attention to, plenty of wrongs to redress and traumas to heal.
Let me know if any of this moves you in some way.

THE QUOTES
I would really love to recommend to all your subscribers to please read The disappearance of the Universe by Gary R Renard and his latest book Your Immortal Reality - How to Break the Cycle of Birth and Death and along with those two books make sure you have a copy of A Course in Miracles handy. These two books, especially this latest one along with The Course are probably the only books you will ever need to read - along with The Christ Letters from http://www.christsway.co.za. The combination of these wonderful gifts to humanity, carefully read and diligently applied, will free us all. I cannot recommend them enough! Gary's books are fantastic.

"I felt a great wave of tremendous energy surge through my body. I was literally stunned by it. As I staggered out of the river, I felt myself elevated in consciousness in a most extraordinary way. A great inflow of glowing happiness uplifted me to a state of ecstasy. I was enraptured and aware of a great Light. Stumbling, I moved away from the river and walked and walked, not knowing where I was going. I continued on, unseeingly, into the desert. Please note! MY SIX WEEKS IN THE DESERT were a time of total inner cleansing of my human consciousness. Old attitudes, beliefs and prejudices were dissolved. The time has come for me to share with receptive people all that I felt, 'saw', realised and understood.... I was uplifted into inner radiant light and felt vibrant and wondrously alive with power. I was filled with ecstasy and joy and I knew beyond all doubt that THIS POWER was the true Creator out of which all created things had been given their being. This glorious interior harmony, peace, and sense of perfect fulfilment, needing nothing more to be added to that beautiful moment, was the very nature of the Reality - the Creative Power - giving Life to creation and existence....... I was lifted into another dimension of conscious perception, which enabled me to see the TRUTH concerning life and existence. I saw, lucidly and clearly, what was real and what was false in man's thinking. I realised that this 'Creative Power' I was experiencing was infinite, eternal, universal, filling all space beyond sky, oceans, earth, and all living things. I saw IT was MIND POWER. IT was the CREATIVE POWER of MIND. There was no point where this 'DIVINE CREATIVE POWER OF MIND' was not. I realised that human mind was drawn from DIVINE CREATIVE MIND but was only a candle lit by the sun. At times, my human sight was so spiritually heightened, I could see through rocks, earth, sand. These now appeared to be only a 'shimmer of tiny motes'. I realised that nothing was really solid! "

"Pra and I have been joining in Sacred Sexuality every night. The LoveMaking goes on throughout the entire night and I am in a state of constant ecstasy that I could not have ever imagined. I have not slept except briefly during the night for many nights, but I feel no particular fatigue the next day. Being with Pra seems to energize me. ³Whenever I enter my bedroom, our sanctuary, I feel his presence and my body Œignites.¹ During LoveMaking we have followed several of the pathways suggested by God in the Messages for sending the Love we are creating forth to humanity. I have blanketed the entire planet with the pure frequency of the Divine Feminine. We have created a SoulMate Womb between us and placed in it humanity and the reunions of SoulMates, utilizing the image of couples climbing the SoulMate path to the StarGate. We have also placed all of humanity within our shared heart, sending Love to each and every brother and sister. All of this work for God thrills me beyond words... ³I have never before experienced such feelings as this LoveMaking creates. It is sheer ongoing ecstasy throughout my body and for what seems like miles beyond it. At times my heart Œburns¹ with the power of the energies and the feelings. I feel overwhelming Love for my blessed Pra and telepath him these thoughts and feelings which he returns with great depth of Love."

PERFECT AS IT IS
And we'll all assist in birth
Of the weaning from our fear
And the meaning of our hope
of connecting to the wind
of the love waiting to burst
as the water dreams it in
and the wisdom of our core
pressing our ears against the earth
we hear the storm the day before
and truly know that less is more
learning the language of the wind
detaching from synthetic life
from cruel and artificial worlds
we truly know how less is more
Take my hand, touch me now
Tell me, it's all perfect as it is
Breathe me in, breathe me out
Tell me, it's all perfect as it is
And we'll all assist in birth
Of the weaning from our greed
As our darkest shadows reign
And play out their final parts
The pain and horror, and the love
Will push the life out through our hearts
And the wisdom of our core
Pressing our ears against the earth
We hear the storm the day before
And truly know that less is more
Learning the language of the wind
Detaching from synthetic life
From cruel and artificial worlds
We truly know how less is more
Take my hand
tell me it's all perfect as it is
And will you assist in birth
Of the weaning from my fear
Of the meaning of my hope
Of connecting to the heart
As I let my ego go
As I find once again
That it is love we're here to learn
That you are me and I am you
And I tremble is it the truth
That it's all unfolding as it should?
Do we get the nightmare that we need?
To wake from darkness, plant new seeds
Oh, will you hold me now and tell me
It's all perfect as it is

Much more from this exceptionally talented artist - and long-time ERN subscriber - at http://www.consueloluz.com -- Incidentally I wrote to her asking: "If the song is available for listening on the web somewhere please let me know as I'm sure it is a hauntingly powerful one to listen to..." and she replied: "I don't have a final recorded version ready yet though that is a priority for me to get it recorded, but I felt I needed to get those words out, as I felt some very dark, frantic energy out there that might be soothed by these words. I will let you know as soon as I have it accessible for downloading... I want to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the work that you do. I am so grateful when I get your compilations because I know I will get the latest non-mainstream news, I will have to face confronting some really dark awful realities, but somehow you always manage to present things in a way that is balanced and with ultimately a positive focus and with the heartening good news of folks bringing in the light..." --- I'm sure you will all agree with me that she is certainly one of those "folks bringing in the light". "Many people don't want to know about the major cover-ups going on in our world. Feeling relatively secure and content in their personal lives, they choose to avoid matters which might disturb their contentment. Yet as long as we choose complacency over awareness, these major cover-ups will continue. In fact, they will likely grow in magnitude until people are finally forced to open their eyes and deal with the consequences. The sooner each of us decides that we do want to know, and that we are willing to invite others to open their eyes, the more easily we will be able to build a world that supports the good of all of us."

As Israel continues to take risks for peace, she will have no friend more steadfast that the United States."In the words of Isaiah, we will make ourselves to Israel 'as hiding places from the winds and shelters from the tempests; as rivers of water in dry places; as shadows of a great rock in a weary land.'"The United States will stand with Israel now and forever. Human rights groups and several public inquiries in Europe have found the U.S. government, with the complicity of numerous governments worldwide, to be engaged in the illegal practice of extraordinary rendition, secret detention, and torture. The U.S. government-sponsored program of renditions is an unlawful practice in which numerous persons have been illegally detained and secretly flown to third countries, where they have suffered additional human rights abuses including torture and enforced disappearance. No one knows the exact number of persons affected, due to the secrecy under which the operations are carried out. For more information visit http://www.witness.org

US vetoes UN resolution on Israel (November 12, 2006)
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200611/s1786453.htm
The US has vetoed a United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution urging an immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. The resolution would have also condemned an Israeli attack in Gaza that killed 18 Palestinian civilians on Wednesday. Nine of the council's 15 members voted for the measure, while four abstained: Britain, Denmark, Japan and Slovakia. But the 'no' vote cast by US ambassador John Bolton was enough to kill the resolution. It was his second veto since he arrived at UN headquarters in August 2005. Mr Bolton's first, on July 13, 2006, killed a resolution reacting to an earlier Israeli incursion in Gaza. The US has cast 82 vetoes in the UN's 61 years and nine of the last 10 council vetoes, seven of which dealt with the Israel-Palestinian conflict. The measure defeated on Saturday was backed by Arab, Islamic and non-aligned nations and formally proposed by Qatar. It would have called on the Palestinian Authority to "take immediate and sustained action to bring an end to violence, including the firing of rockets on Israeli territory". The resolution would also have urged the international community to take steps to stabilise the situation and revive the Middle East peace process. It would have called for nations to consider "the possible establishment of an international mechanism" for the protection of civilians. It also would have condemned Israeli military operations in Gaza and called on the Jewish state to withdraw all troops from Gaza and end its operations in all Palestinian lands. Election 2006: Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up To Me - By Chris Floyd
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article15542.htm
(...) The Democratic leadership is a deeply embedded part of the Establishment; multimillionaires like our soon-to-be Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (who is probably richer than Bush) aren't going to seriously challenge the near-total domination of American politics and society by Big Business and wealthy elites. They may re-arrange the display a little, but they are not going to upset the golden applecart. So while we may see a slight goosing of the minimum wage, we will almost certainly not see a major rollback of the relentless rightwing assault on the rights, protections and well-being of working people and the poor. We can hope for some modifications of the bizarre and punitive prescription drug "reforms" imposed by the Bush Party; but we won't see anything resembling a national health insurance system, despite the majority of Americans in favor of one. We won't see a reinstatement of the safety net that was gutted, pre-Bush, by Democrat Bill Clinton. We won't see major reductions or indeed, any reductions in military spending from a party that has faithfully approved every cent of every "special spending bill" that Bush has submitted to finance his off-the-books wars. We won't see a lessening of international tensions from a crew that has spent most of the past year bashing the Bush Administration for not being bellicose enough in threatening Iran, and for not larding Israel with even more deadly weaponry to carry out its aggression in Lebanon and its increasingly frenzied decimation in Gaza. We will not see an immediate withdrawal from Iraq; at best, we will see a few tentative timetables based on unreal and unrealizable "benchmarks" produced by some grandly gassy "bipartisan agreement" based on the face-saving formulas of the "Baker Commission." There is going to be no impeachment of Bush, even if the Democrats get hold of the Senate. There is going to be no criminal prosecution for the principal architects of the war crime in Iraq (and probably none of small fry either). There will be little or no rollback of the draconian strictures of the Patriot Act, which was overwhelmingly approved by the Democrats, or the many other measures "national security letters," warrantless surveillance, etc. introduced hugger-mugger by the "Unitary Executive." Indeed, we will be very lucky if the new Democratic leadership even revisits the Military Commissions Act. (...) Also remember that the worst depredations of the first Bush Administration, the Reagan Administration and the Nixon Administration were all carried out with strong Democratic majorities in Congress (except for a brief period of Republican Senate control in the Reagan years). Even in "normal" times (if we have ever known such a thing), even with the opposition party in control of Congress, there is virtually no end to the mischief that the executive branch can get up to. Nixon and Reagan waged whole covert wars, killing hundreds of thousands of people, without the approval or input of Congress. If anyone thinks the horrors of the Bush Imperium are somehow at an end or will even be seriously impaired by the results of yesterday's election, they have a harsh and bitter awakening to come. But still the political situation we have today is better than what we had the day before. In a period of such deep crisis in the life of the Republic, and (to draw on Noam Chomsky) in a system of power so massive and far-reaching, even a small change can mean very real benefits to a good many people. (And to many good people.) And in any case, we should raise a glass to the American people for standing up amidst the hailstorm of lies and bullshit thrown at them and giving George W. Bush a resounding slap in the face. Long may he stew in this great and well-deserved humiliation.

Nancy Pelosi Gives A Pep Talk To AIPAC (05/27/05) MUST READ!
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article8955.htm
The speech affords a up-close look at what Pelosi thinks about Israel, the Palestinians, the Mideast, and nukes. (...) Pelosi denies that the key issue is Israels occupation of the West Bank and Gaza --- at a stroke repudiating numerous UN Security Council Resolutions that the US voted for and supposedly still supports. But clearly, thats no longer the case, and hasnt been for many years. The real issue, she states, is the survival of Israel. (...) But her most revealing statements concern nuclear proliferation, and they show why the Democrats (who dont get it) are no improvement over the Republicans (who always get it wrong). In fact, the Democrats may be even more dangerous, precisely because there is still the perception in the land, however mistaken, that the Democrats are the party of enlightened ideas. I would be willing to bet that most registered democrats are not aware of how extreme their elected Democratic representatives are on these key issues. Nor can most thus have a true sense of how dire the situation is. According to Pelosi, the biggest danger to Israel today comes from Iran, whose nuclear ambitions, though still unproved, also threaten the US. Her perspective contains the seed of ominous things to come, because, after all, something will have to be done about Iran, right? Yes, and soon. Meanwhile, Pelosi manages to overlook Israels brutal treatment of the Palestinians, which undoubtedly is the greatest danger to Israel, by far, and comes from within. Nor does she mention Israels massive nuclear, chemical and biological weapons arsenal. But her statements additionally contain the tacit and troublesome assumption that the only people in the region who matter are Israelis and Americans. Everyone else, virtually the entire population of numerous countries, though no less imperiled by nuclear weapons (arguably even more so), simply dont count in this calculus. In fact, Pelosis remarks are implicitly racist for this reason. The shocker, though, also near the end, is where Pelosi takes the US and Israeli nuclear monopoly in the region for granted, as if this were a good and necessary thing. The purpose of the NPT in her view is to shut down the rogue proliferators, who by definition are always those other guys, never us. Its the stuff of which nuclear nightmares are made.

Bush & His Whole Program Must Go
http://www.worldcantwait.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3424&Itemid=223
Millions of people went to the polls motivated largely by their disgust with the unjust, immoral war on Iraq and their revulsion with the entire Bush program, but there is a huge gap between what drove millions to the polls and the promises and actions of the Democrats who won. It remains urgent that millions of people take it upon ourselves to act independently of the terms and channels of official politics to protest, to get out in the streets, to refuse to settle into business as usual to drive the whole Bush regime out of office and bring his program to a halt!In the 72 hours since she has taken the mantle of the next Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi repeated her pledge that impeachment is off the table. In her victory press conference, she didnt speak of the need to repeal the Military Commissions Act of 2006 that revoked habeas corpus and legalized torture. She didnt decry the unending death and destruction that is daily terrorizing the people of Iraq. She did not pledge to stand firmly against the new war being prepared against Iran. Nor did she make a peep about defending womens right to abortion and gay rights even as Roe V. Wade is under increasing threat and gay marriage bans passed in an additional seven states. Instead, she recast this election as a mandate on manners and effectiveness: "The American people spoke out for a return to civility to the Capitol in Washington and how Congress conducts its work
And Democrats pledge civility and bipartisanship in the conduct of the work here, and we pledge partnerships with the Republicans in Congress and the president, not partisanship." The next day she sat down with a President who by any objective standard is a war criminal and who has been massively rejected by the people. But instead of seizing on the fact that Bush is rapidly losing legitimacy in the eyes of millions who are looking for a way to say NO MORE!, she lent him a sense of legitimacy by, in her own words, extend[ing] the hand of friendship, of partnership. Think what it means to pledge partnership with a regime that lied its way into a war that has for years struck panic in the corridors of hospitals, terror in the beds of children, overcrowding in the morgues throughout Iraq and stolen more than half a million lives. (...) We are in a moment that could swing in one of two ways.In one direction, lies the danger of the millions who hate what George Bushs presidency has wrought and is still planning being lulled into thinking that the game is over, that they have won, that it is time to go home, celebrate, and tune out. But torture carried out under the banner of bipartisanship is still torture. The same is true of an immoral war. And the stranglehold on the rights of women and gays is still tightening. In the other direction, lies the possibility of actually stopping these horrors and driving out those responsible by breaking millions out of the deadly confines of bipartisanship and civility. These elections, while not bringing about the change millions want and need, did raise the expectations of many who are aching for this change, did offer a glimpse of how isolated this regime is from the desires of its people, and did reveal the potential power of the millions who expressed their massive disgust.Which way this moment swings is up to each of us and up to all of us collectively. Historic Democratic Victory

Despite widespread problems with electronic voting machines, long lines that stretched several city blocks in some states, hours-long waiting at the polls, and GOP intimidation tactics aimed to drive away predominantly Democratic and minority voters, the public turned out en masse Tuesday and helped shift the balance of power in Washington, DC, to Democrats for the first time in 12 years.

Dems' wins in U.S. are embraced oversea (Nov 8)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061108/ap_on_el_ge/eln_election_world_view
MADRID, Spain - The seismic shift that midterm elections brought to Washington's political landscape was welcomed by many Wednesday who oppose the war in Iraq and the harsh methods the Bush administration has employed in fighting terrorism. From Paris to Pakistan, politicians, analysts and ordinary citizens said they hoped the Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives would force President Bush to adopt a more conciliatory approach to global crises, and teach a president many see as a "cowboy" a lesson in humility. But some also expressed fears that a split in power and a lame-duck president might stall global trade talks and weaken much-needed American influence. (...) Regardless of the effect on world events, global giddiness that Bush was finally handed a political black-eye was almost palpable. "Of course, the citizens of the United States are humans with a conscience. It's a reprisal vote against the war in Iraq, against the corruption" within the Bush administration, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said. "All this fills us with optimism." In an extraordinary joint statement, more than 200 Socialist members of the European Parliament hailed the American election results as "the beginning of the end of a six-year nightmare for the world" and gloated that they left the Bush administration "seriously weakened."In Paris, expatriates and French citizens alike packed the city's main American haunts to watch results, with some standing to cheer or boo as vote tabulations came in. One Frenchman, teacher Jean-Pierre Charpemtrat, 53, said it was about time U.S. voters figured out what much of the rest of the world already knew. CLIP

Rumsfeld on Wednesday confirmed the widespread view that President Bush and his policies have done more to tarnish America's image abroad and strain its global relations than any other US president in recent history.
Bipartisanship on Hold (Nov 10)
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/111006K.shtml
Editors of the New York Times write: "Mr. Bush made it clear that, for now, his idea of how to 'put the elections behind us' is to use the Republicans' last two months in control of Congress to try to push through one of the worst ideas his administration and its Republican allies on Capitol Hill have come up with ... a bill that would legalize his illegal wiretapping program and gut the law that limits a president's ability to abuse his power in this way." (...) The bill Mr. Bush wants was drafted by Vice President Dick Cheney's lawyers and by Senator Arlen Specter, the outgoing Republican chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Mr. Specter presented it as a compromise that would regulate the president's ability to spy on Americans' phone calls and e-mail without a court order. It really was a cave-in to Mr. Bush's effort to expand his power beyond limits that have existed for nearly 30 years. (...) The White House refuses to explain itself because this has never been about catching terrorists. It is about overturning the crucial limits placed on executive authority after Watergate and Vietnam. Mr. Cheney and a few other hard-liners have been trying to turn back the clock and have succeeded in some truly scary ways, including the military commissions act they pushed through Congress before the elections. It is vital that they not be allowed to do any more harm.
U.S.: Vice President Endorses Torture - CHENEY TOO SHOULD BE FORCED TO RESIGN! http://hrw.org/english/docs/2006/10/26/usdom14465.htm
Cheney Expresses Approval of the CIAs Use of Waterboarding(Washington, DC, October 26, 2006) U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has issued the Bush administrations first clear endorsement of a form of torture known as waterboarding, or mock drowning, said Human Rights Watch today. (...) In April 2006, in a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, more than 100 U.S. law professors stated unequivocally that waterboarding is torture, and is a criminal felony punishable under the U.S. federal criminal code. Vice President Cheney needs to get a better lawyer, someone who will tell him not to endorse criminal activities over the airwaves, said Malinowski. On September 6, the Pentagon issued a new Field Manual on Intelligence Interrogation that explicitly forbids the use of waterboarding in any interrogation. General Jeff Kimmons, the Senior Intelligence officer in the U.S. Army, explained when these new rules were released: No good intelligence is going to come from abusive practices. I think history tells us that. I think the empirical evidence of the last five years, hard years, tell us that. The U.S. Armys new counterinsurgency manual states that torture and cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment is never a morally permissible option, even in situations where lives depend on gaining information. It concludes that those who lose moral legitimacy by employing such methods lose the war.
Cheney is next on the chopping block (10/11/12, 2006)

According to Washington insiders, there are moves afoot to dump Vice President Dick Cheney and replace him with either John McCain or Rudolph Giuliani prior to the 2008 presidential election. Whoever succeeds Cheney will be able to campaign for the presidency with the perks that come with being an incumbent Vice President.Since the increasingly-besieged Cheney has signaled he has no intention of voluntarily stepping down, the strategy by the Bush camp may be to force him out by presenting evidence before Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald that it was Cheney who was responsible for the compromise of CIA non-proliferation covert officer Valerie Plame Wilson and her Brewster Jennings & Associates cover firm. Rumsfeld quits; Bush taps Gates for post (Nov 8)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061108/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/rumsfeld_resigns
WASHINGTON - After years of defending his secretary of defense, President Bush on Wednesday announced Donald H. Rumsfeld's resignation within hours of the Democrats' triumph in congressional elections. Bush reached back to his father's administration to tap a former CIA director to run the Pentagon. The Iraq war was the central issue of Rumsfeld's nearly six-year tenure, and unhappiness with the war was a major element of voter dissatisfaction Tuesday and the main impetus for his departure. Even some GOP lawmakers in Congress became critical of the war's management, and growing numbers of politicians were urging Bush to replace Rumsfeld. Bush said Robert M. Gates, 63, who has served in a variety of national security jobs under six previous presidents, would be nominated to replace Rumsfeld. Gates, currently the president of Texas A&M University, is a Bush family friend and a member of an independent group studying the way ahead in Iraq. (...) Just last week Bush told reporters that he expected Rumsfeld, 74, to remain until the end of the administration's term. And although Bush said Wednesday that his decision to replace Rumsfeld was not based on politics, the announcement of a Pentagon shake-up came on the heels of Tuesday's voting, in which Democrats captured control of the House and could win control of the Senate if the remaining undecided race in Virginia goes their way. With his often-combative defense of the war in Iraq, Rumsfeld had been the administration's face of the conflict. He became more of a target and more politically vulnerable as the war grew increasingly unpopular at home amid rising violence and with no end in sight. Gates ran the CIA under the first President Bush during the first Gulf war. He retired from government in 1993. He joined the CIA in 1966 and is the only agency employee to rise from an entry level job to become director. A native of Kansas, he made a name for himself as an analyst specializing in the former Soviet Union and he served in the intelligence community for more than a quarter century, under six presidents. (...) Gates took over the CIA as acting director in 1987, when William Casey was terminally ill with cancer. Questions were raised about Gates' knowledge of the Iran-Contra scandal, so he withdrew from consideration to take over the CIA permanently. Yet he stayed on as deputy director. Then-National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft, who has been a critic of the younger Bush's policies, asked Gates to be his deputy in 1989 during the administration of Bush's father. President Bush, a former CIA director himself, asked him to run the CIA two years later. The scandal had faded and Gates won confirmation. After leaving government, Gates joined corporate boards and wrote a memoir, "From The Shadows: The Ultimate Insider's Story of Five Presidents and How They Won the Cold War." It was published in 1996. Gates is a close friend of the Bush family, and particularly the first President Bush. He became the president of Texas A&M University in August 2002. The university is home to the presidential library of Bush's father.
Gates Has History of Manipulating Intelligence (8 November 2006)
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110806R.shtml
Robert Gates, the former director of the CIA during the presidency of George H.W. Bush, and who was tapped Tuesday by the president to replace Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense, is part of Texas's good ol' boy network. He may be best known for playing a role in arming Iraq's former dictator Saddam Hussein with American made weapons in the country's war against Iran in the 1980's. Gates, who currently is president of Texas A&M University, came under intense fire during confirmation hearings in the early 1990's for being unaware of the explosive situation in Iraq in the 1980's, and the demise of the Soviet republic. Gates joined the CIA in 1966, and spent eight years there as an analyst before moving over to the National Security Council in 1974. He returned to the CIA in 1980, and a year later was appointed by Ronald Reagan to serve as deputy director for intelligence. Five years later, he was named deputy director for the agency, the number two post in the agency. In 1989, he was appointed deputy director of the National Security Council and in 1991, when the first Bush administration was in office, he was named director of the spy shop. During contentious Senate confirmation hearings in October 1991 - that are bound to come up again - Gates's role in cooking intelligence information during the Iran-contra scandal was revealed. It was during those hearings that senators found out about a December 2, 1986, 10-page classified memo written by Thomas Barksdale, the CIA analyst for Iran. That memo claimed that covert arms sales to the country demonstrated "a perversion of the intelligence process" that is staggering in its proportions. (...) In testimony before the Senate on October 1, 1991, Harold P. Ford, former vice chairman of the National Intelligence Council, described an aspect of Gates's personality that mirrors many of the top officials in the Bush administration today. "Bob Gates has often depended too much on his own individual analytic judgments and has ignored or scorned the views of others whose assessments did not accord with his own. This would be okay if he were uniquely all-seeing. He has not been ...," Ford said. At the hearing, other CIA analysts said Gates forced them to twist intelligence to exaggerate the threat posed by the former Soviet Union. Analysts alleged a report approved by Gates overstated Soviet influence in Iran that specifically led the late President Ronald Reagan into making policy decisions that turned into the Iran-contra scandal. (...) If confirmed, Gates would arguably be overseeing a war that removed a dictator he personally helped to prop up. Tom Harkin, a senator from Iowa, described Gates's role in intelligence sharing operations with Iraq during a time when the United States helped arm Saddam Hussein in Iraq's war against Iran. "I also have doubts and questions about Mr. Gates's role in the secret intelligence sharing operation with Iraq," Harkin said during Gates's confirmation hearings on November 7, 1991. "Robert Gates served as assistant to the director of the CIA in 1981 and as deputy director for intelligence from 1982 to 1986. In that capacity, he helped develop options in dealing with the Iran-Iraq war, which eventually evolved into a secret intelligence liaison relationship with Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Gates was in charge of the directorate that prepared the intelligence information that was passed on to Iraq. He testified that he was also an active participant in the operation during 1986. The secret intelligence sharing operation with Iraq was not only a highly questionable and possibly illegal operation, but also may have jeopardized American lives and our national interests. The photo reconnaissance, highly sensitive electronic eavesdropping, and narrative texts provided to Saddam may not only have helped him in Iraq's war against Iran, but also in the recent gulf war." NOTE: Not only should Democrats firmly oppose this Gates (of hell!) at his confirmation hearings, but they should request the CIA to come clean and admit to the untold and unrelenting horrors it has created around the world and amend its ways or face dissolution. Likewise only a Defense Secretary committed to deflating the bloated Pentagon and turning on its head its all-out pro-war stance should be accepted. The Pentagon should be focusing solely on Defense and not longer on Offense. And a Department of Peace as suggested by Rep. Dennis Kucinich should urgently be created and fully funded with Kucinich, or someone proposed by him, heading it. The Secret World of Robert Gates
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110906A.shtml
Robert Parry writes, "Robert Gates, George W. Bush's choice to replace Donald Rumsfeld as Defense Secretary, is a trusted figure within the Bush family's inner circle, but there are lingering questions about whether Gates is a trustworthy public official." The 63-year-old Gates has long faced accusations of collaborating with Islamic extremists in Iran, arming Saddam Hussein's dictatorship in Iraq, and politicizing U.S. intelligence to conform with the desires of policymakers - three key areas that relate to his future job. Gates skated past some of these controversies during his 1991 confirmation hearings to be CIA director - and the current Bush administration is seeking to slip Gates through the congressional approval process again, this time by pressing for a quick confirmation by the end of the year, before the new Democratic-controlled Senate is seated. If Bush's timetable is met, there will be no time for a serious investigation into Gates's past. Fifteen years ago, Gates got a similar pass when leading Democrats agreed to put "bipartisanship" ahead of careful oversight when Gates was nominated for the CIA job by President George H.W. Bush. In 1991, despite doubts about Gates's honesty over Iran-Contra and other scandals, the career intelligence officer brushed aside accusations that he played secret roles in arming both sides of the Iran-Iraq War. Since then, however, documents have surfaced that raise new questions about Gates's sweeping denials. For instance, the Russian government sent an intelligence report to a House investigative task force in early 1993 stating that Gates participated in secret contacts with Iranian officials in 1980 to delay release of 52 U.S. hostages then held in Iran, a move to benefit the presidential campaign of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. (...) Middle Eastern witnesses alleged that Gates worked on the secret Iraqi initiative, which included Saddam Hussein's procurement of cluster bombs and chemicals used to produce chemical weapons for the war against Iran. Faults and dirty tricks hit results (Nov 8)
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-2443288,00.html
From Tim Reid in Washington Problems with electronic voting machines and allegations of ballot rigging and intimidation triggered a flurry of dirty tricks accusations from both sides today. The protests were loudest in the most closely contested states and mostly from Democrats, many of whom are convinced that the last two presidential elections were stolen from them. The FBI said that it was investigating complaints that voters in Virginia had received telephone calls with misleading information about where their nearest polling station was located. The bogus calls included some from people claiming to work for Jim Webb, the Democratic senatorial candidate, fuelling suspicions among Democrats of Republican chicanery in a Senate race crucial to who will control the chamber.Although there was no hard evidence of Republican dirty tricks, Democrat suspicions have been bolstered by a revelations about the reliability of the machines and the political affiliations of the companies that own them.Since the 2000 Florida recount, the US government has spent $3 billion to help states overhaul their voting technology. Over 90 per cent of polls yesterday were equipped with new computerised voting machines. In 2004, the former head of the biggest provider, Diebolt, wrote a fundraising letter stating that he was committed "to help Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the President". In Ohio all 12 voting machines in a predominately black district in Cleveland crashed when voting opened at 6.30am, feeding fears that minority and largely Democrat-leaning voters were being disenfranchised. Election officials in Indiana went to court to get a three hour voting extension after a computer glitch in 70 precincts delayed poll opening. Colorado Democrats were opposed by the Republicans when they asked a state judge to allow late voting, arguing that malfunctions had forced long queues to wait up to two hours while others were turned away. In Maryland, Democrat officials accused Republicans of launching a campaign of voter intimidation after it emerged that the party's poll watchers had been issued with a handbook urging them to challenge voters who they suspected of not being registered to vote. Democrats said the tactic was reminiscent of intimidation used against blacks during the Civil Rights era. In Floridas Broward County, notorious for the "hanging chad" debacle in the disputed 2000 presidential race, 14 voting machines in one precinct stopped working for 90 minutes. But in New Jersey it was the Republicans claiming to be victims of a dirty tricks operation with their candidate, Tom Kean, alleging that his campaign headquarters had been padlocked by Democrat operatives. His opponent claimed it was a Republican stunt.

By now many Texans have heard about the proposed NAFTA Superhighway, which is also referred to as the trans-Texas corridor. What you may not know is the extent to which plans for such a superhighway are moving forward without congressional oversight or media attention. This superhighway would connect Mexico, the United States, and Canada, cutting a wide swath through the middle of Texas and up through Kansas City. Offshoots would connect the main artery to the west coast, Florida, and northeast. Proponents envision a ten-lane colossus the width of several football fields, with freight and rail lines, fiber-optic cable lines, and oil and natural gas pipelines running alongside. This will require coordinated federal and state eminent domain actions on an unprecedented scale, as literally millions of people and businesses could be displaced. The loss of whole communities is almost certain, as planners cannot wind the highway around every quaint town, historic building, or senior citizen apartment for thousands of miles. (...) The ultimate goal is not simply a superhighway, but an integrated North American Union complete with a currency, a cross-national bureaucracy, and virtually borderless travel within the Union. Like the European Union, a North American Union would represent another step toward the abolition of national sovereignty altogether. Some of them have spent the past six weeks collecting thousands of signatures on petitions protesting the Pentagon's plans and demanding an end to the "backdoor draft," cited in the document as "troop extensions, stop-loss orders, [and] involuntary recalls." The petitions will be delivered to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on Thursday, just seventy-two hours after all four versions of the Military Times published an editorial calling for his removal. The contingent, which includes Iraq War veterans, retired National Guard and Reserve soldiers, military families, and citizen supporters, is led by Military Families Speak Out (MFSO), a national organization of more than 3,000 military families opposed to the war in Iraq, with members in all 50 states and at military installations around the world. Hundreds of MFSO members have had sons and daughters, husbands and wives forced to stay in the military, and in Iraq, long after their contract expired. (...) In order for the Army to carry out its plan to maintain troop levels of 120,000 in Iraq through 2010, the Pentagon will have to lift the restraints on Guard deployments, which now limit Guard combat tours to two out of every five years. Almost 300,000 Guard soldiers - 60 percent of the force - have hit their threshold for overseas combat, but National Guard Lieutenant General Steven Blum expects his soldiers to get the call again. The Pentagon has postponed announcing the likelihood of additional mobilizations and accelerated call-ups for Reservists until after the November elections because it's such a politically explosive issue. For the military families and veterans who will be at the Pentagon this Thursday seeking to stop the stop-loss and prevent the Pentagon from redeploying Reservists months, if not years, before the current policy allows, it's a matter of life and death.

Afghanistan After Democracy: the untold story through photographic images
http://www.afghanistanafterdemocracy.com
This book is the story of suffering of the Afghan people. This book exposes the lies of the Bush administration about the post-Taliban Afghanistan, and the disaster brought upon Afghanistan by the United States of America and her allies. It exposes democracy as the buzz word for the neocolonial adventure of the US. The claims of reconstruction in Afghanistan is nothing but a total fraud. It exposes the failure of the US government at all levels in Afghanistan. Finally, it exposes the genocide committed by the US government through the use of uranium weapons and the consequences of these weapons of mass destruction particularly congenital deformities. Large percentage of the earning from this book would be spent toward projects in Afghanistan. Particularly, my hope is to build a women-children hospital with an adjacent research facility. Former Agent Says Google and CIA in Partnership (Oct 31)
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4774
Is Google's quest to manage the world's information leading straight to the CIA? Former CIA clandestine case officer Robert David Steele made some very hot comments on his appearance on the Alex Jones radio show. Steele cites his contacts within the agency with the information that Google and the CIA are involved with one another. Steele said, "I think that Google has made a very important strategic mistake in dealing with the secret elements of the U.S. government - that is a huge mistake and Im hoping theyll work their way out of it and basically cut that relationship off."In reference to Google's fight against the U.S. Department of Justice for the privacy of its users, Steele claims that it was an elaborate charade intended for the public eye. "Google was a little hypocritical when they were refusing to honor a Department of Justice request for information because they were heavily in bed with the Central Intelligence Agency, the office of research and development," concluded Steele. From reports, Steele did not bring evidence to light in order to back up his claims, and neither Google nor the CIA are yet commenting on the matter.

What he didn't announce is that he had one of his staffers insert in the Defense Department's funding bill, literally in the middle of the night, a provision to shut down the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, known as SEGIR ... American occupation officials have been sent to jail on bribery and conspiracy charges, and SEGIR has exposed disastrously poor construction work by well-connected companies, and discovered that the military did not properly track hundreds of thousands of weapons it shipped to Iraqi security forces."

Could "Wild Laws" Save Life on Earth?

The 21 species of albatross are some of the world's most majestic birds. An adult has a wingspan of up to 3.5 meters and can circumnavigate the world in a single flight. Yet each year, 100,000 of them are killed by longline fishing, where nets up to 80 miles long with thousands of hooks are towed by fishing boats catching birds as well as fish. As a consequence of this indiscriminate slaughter, 19 of the 21 species are under threat of extinction ... But a body of legal opinion is proposing what are being called "wild laws," which would speak for birds and animals, and even rivers and nature.

The Irresponsible (04 November 2006)
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110606H.shtml
In his latest work, "A Brief History of the Future," Jacques Attali envisions total chaos for the years around 2050. After the extremely alarmist report by Nicolas Stern, former economist at the World Bank, who argues that the international community, but above all, China, India, and the United States, must urgently mobilize to contain global warming which could cause an economic recession "of catastrophic scope," American and Canadian scientists have been tolling the alarm. In the very serious review, Science, they announce that virtually all species of fish and crustaceans fished for consumption will have disappeared from the oceans before 2050 if present trends continue. That is to say too intensive fishing, industrial fishing where many fish are tossed overboard, dead, because they are too small, endangers biodiversity. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), this catastrophic scenario would be unlikely. (...) While Great Britain calls for signing a global agreement to reduce carbon dioxide emissions within two years, the White House has undoubtedly acknowledged the report, an acknowledgement that does not prevent the United States from being the most significant greenhouse gas-emitting country in the world - 25% of emissions for 5% of the global population.

Green Fuels Dirty Secret
http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php?id=13646
While corn based ethanol, promoted by the Bush administration as the green fuel of the future has been exposed as one of the dirtiest forms of energy, author Sasha Lilley further exposes the real drive behind corn based ethanols major role in Bushs Biofuels Initiative. Archer Daniel Midland, the largest U.S. subsidized producer of corn and ethanol, and 10th worst corporate air polluter, is also a major financial contributor to both Republican and Democrat parties with an extremely successful pattern of lobbying congress. Government largesse for this inefficient and extremely environmentally destructive form of energy is thus secured as ADM writes and sets both State and Federal policy around coal, corn and ethanol.
Ethanol: The Dirty Truth, Sasha Lilley, CorpWatch, 6/1/ 2006
The Energy Debit of Making Ethanol (Apr. 01, 2006)
http://www.energytribune.com/articles.cfm?aid=93
Lets do a simple calculation, using Patzeks findings, to show how the ethanol hype violates basic principles of material and energy balances. (Every freshman engineering student understands this type of calculation.) We call this a control volume approach.Take one gallon of ordinary gasoline. To replace that gallon with an equivalent number of BTUs requires 1.4 gallons of ethanol. Since corn is the only significant source of ethanol touted by its lobby, lets look at corn-based ethanol production. The process of converting corn into ethanol consumes 58 percent of the corns BTU content. Another 11 percent of those BTUs are burned in moving the ethanol to the consumer at the service station. Thus, 69 percent of the energy contained in the corn is lost during processing and transportation. That leaves just 31 percent for conversion into fuel. So we take that 0.31 and divide the 1.4 gallons of ethanol (mentioned above) by it, in order to match the BTU content of one gallon of ordinary gasoline. It becomes clear that you need corn with an energy content the equivalent of 4.5 gallons of ethanol, in order to produce the 1.4 gallons we started with (1.4 / 0.31 = 4.5). But here is the punchline. About 40 percent of corns calorific value comes from fossil fuels that are used during the cultivation, harvesting, and transportation of the crop. Therefore, to produce 4.5 gallons of ethanol (which remember, due to conversion losses mentioned above, yields just 1.4 gallons of actual ethanol for use as motor fuel) requires farmers to use about 1.8 gallons of ordinary gasoline equivalent, in the forms of natural gas (for fertilizer) and motor fuel (primarily diesel). Thus, to produce enough ethanol to replace one gallon of fossil gasoline, farmers and processors consume at least 1.8 gallons of fossil fuels. Incredibly, this calculation is conservative because it assumes that the ethanol manufacturing process is self-contained, that is, that incoming corn provides all operating energy and that ethanol is transported by ethanol-burning trucks. If we use a more logical methodology, the 1.8 gallons could actually double! In short, no matter what the environmentalists, farmers, and super hawks have to say, the numbers for ethanol just dont add up.
How long can the world feed itself? (Oct 12, 2006)
http://www.globalpolicy.org/socecon/hunger/general/2006/0503addiction.htm
We are still living off the proceeds of the Green Revolution, but that hit diminishing returns 20 years ago. Now we live in a finely balanced situation in which world food supply just about meets demand, with no reserve to cover further population growth. But the population will grow anyway, and the world's existing grain supply for human consumption is being eroded by three different factors: meat, heat and biofuels. For the sixth time in the past seven years, the human race will grow less food than it eats this year. We closed the gap by eating into food stocks accumulated in better times, but there is no doubt that the situation is getting serious. The world's food stocks have shrunk by half since 1999, from a reserve big enough to feed the entire world for 116 days, to a predicted low of only 57 days by the end of this year. That is well below the official safety level, and there is no sign that the downward trend is going to reverse. If it doesn't, then at some point not too far down the road we reach the point of absolute food shortages, and rationing by price kicks in. In other words, grain prices soar, and the poorest start to starve. CLIP
CURRENT FOOD PRODUCTION SYSTEM DUE FOR COLLAPSE
http://www.i-sis.org.uk/SustainableWorldInitiativeF.php
World grain yield fell for four successive years from 2000 to 2003,bringing reserves to the lowest in thirty years. The situation has not improved despite a 'bumper' harvest in 2004, which was just enough to satisfy world consumption. In too many food production regions of the world, conventional farming practices have severely depleted the underground water to the point where rivers and lakes have dried out, topsoil has been eroded away, and wild life decimated. At the same time, world oil production may have passed its peak; oil price hit a record high of US$58 a barrel on 4 April 2005, and is expected to top US$100 within two years. This spells looming disaster for conventional industrial agriculture, which is heavily dependent on both oil and water. The true costs of our current food production system are becoming all too clear. CLIP
The 100-Mile Diet
http://www.100milediet.org/
When the average North American sits down to eat, each ingredient has typically traveled at least 1,500 miles from farm to plate. That's a total disconnection from where our food is coming from. What would it be like to eat locally for one year? We drew a 100-mile circle around our home in Vancouver, Canada. The 100-Mile Diet was born.

By now it is generally conceded that the food we eat could actually be making us sick, but we still haven't acknowledged the full consequences--environmental, political, cultural, social and ethical--of our national diet. These consequences include soil depletion, water and air pollution, the loss of family farms and rural communities, and even global warming.
Dirty water kills 5,000 children a day (Nov 10, 2006) http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,1944324,00.html
Sanitation the key to saving millions of lives· UN urges governments to ensure supplies for all - Nearly two million children a year die for want of clean water and proper sanitation while the world's poor often pay more for their water than people in Britain or the US, according to a major new report. The United Nations Development Programme, in its annual Human Development report, argues that 1.1 billion people do not have safe water and 2.6 billion suffer from inadequate sewerage. This is not because of water scarcity but poverty, inequality and government failure. The report urges governments to guarantee that each person has at least 20 litres of clean water a day, regardless of wealth, location, gender or ethnicity. If water was free to the poor, it adds, it could trigger the next leap forward in human development. Many sub-Saharan Africans get less than 20 litres of water a day and two-thirds have no proper toilets. By contrast, the average Briton uses 150 litres a day while Americans are the world's most profligate, using 600 litres a day. Phoenix, Arizona, uses 1,000 litres per person on average - 100 times as much as Mozambique. (...) Many countries spend less than 1% of national income on water. This needs to rise sharply, as does the share of foreign aid spent on water projects, the UNDP says. It shows how spending on clean water and sanitation led to dramatic advances in health and infant mortality in Britain and the United States in the 1800s.In the world's worst slums, people often pay five to 10 times more than wealthy people in the same cities or in London. This is because they often have to buy water from standpipes and pay a middle man by the bucket. "The poorer you are, the more you pay," says Mr Watkins. Poor people also waste much time walking miles to collect small amounts of water. The report estimates that 40bn hours are spent collecting water each year in sub-Saharan Africa - an entire working year for all the people in France. And the water the poor do get is often contaminated, spreading diseases that kill people or leave them unable to work. The UNDP estimates that nearly half of all people in developing countries at any one time are suffering from an illness caused by bad water or sanitation and that 443m school days are missed each year. There is plenty of water globally but it is not evenly distributed and is difficult to transport. Some countries use more than they have due to irrigation, population growth and so on. But many simply do not handle their water properly. The Middle East is the world's most "water-stressed" region, with Palestinians, especially in Gaza, suffering the most. Climate change is likely to hit the developing world hardest, reducing the availability of water, lowering agricultural productivity and leaving millions hungry. Changing weather patterns are already causing drought in countries such as Kenya, Mali and Zimbabwe, but wet areas are likely to become wetter still, causing devastating floods and loss of life. CLIP
Water crisis a main cause of mass suffering
http://www.agrnews.org/?section=archives&cat_id=20&article_id=510
Worldwide water shortage, which leaves 1.1 billion people with no access to safe water and 2.6 billion people without basic sanitation, is steadily increasing. A newly released report from the UK relief and development agency Tearfund announces, "Governments are failing to tackle a crisis in which a child dies from dehydration from diarrhea every 14 seconds. Half the world's hospital beds are taken up by people with water-borne diseases
6,000 children are dying every day from diseases associated with lack of access to safe drinking water. The $15 billion needed to meet the UN's Millennium Development Goal to "halve by 2015 the proportion of people without access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation" is, according to the report, "a small portion of the $100 billion that is spent each year on bottled water, mainly as a fashion accessory." The New Yorker article sited below grapples with various controversial solutions to water distribution; from dams and desalination to agrarian reform and conservation.

Belinda Stronach and Rick Mercer pleaded for support Thursday for a program that would provide insecticide-treated nets to protect African children from malaria. The Canadian MP and well-known Canadian comedian joined luminaries such as former U.S. president Bill Clinton and actor Mia Farrow Thursday in calling for help to end poverty at an international conference on global poverty in Montreal. The former president, who stopped to sign an autograph on his way into the convention centre, received an ovation more fitting a rock star than a politician, CTV's Rob Lurie reported from the convention centre floor.Clinton put his charisma to work at the Montreal Millennium Promise Conference, firing up enthusiasm for the elimination of poverty. The war in Iraq cost US$300 billion, Clinton told more than 3,000 attendees of the conference. But the U.S. has failed to provide a promised US$30 billion in promised foreign aid that could help provide protect Africa's water, increase that continents grain production and educate African children, he said. "We're here today to save lives. It's that's simple," Stronach said.Stronach and Mercer were at the conference to promote a "Spread the Net" program for purchasing and distributing bed nets in Africa to help protect children from mosquitoes. "More African children under the age of five die from malaria than any other cause," she said. Mosquitoes spread malaria, which kills 3,000 children in Africa every day. The program, which aims to get individuals to buy 500,000 bed nets for distribution in Liberia and Rwanda, is the brainchild of Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, a famed economist and author of The End of Poverty. The bed nets cost $10 each. Malaria is epidemic in Rwanda, Sachs told the conference, with "children dying in huge numbers because of the lack of something as simple as a long-lasting insecticide-treated bed net." "There is no excuse in the 21st century for people to be dying in the millions because they don't have what it takes to stay alive," Sachs said. Education, and helping African parents increase their ability to earn money and support their families, is key to reducing poverty, he noted. Six simple things that can make a big difference, he said, are: Helping people grow more food;controlling preventable diseases like malaria; building clinics; ensuring safe supplies of water;building schools and providing meals; and providing communities with the ability to connect through phone service and the Internet. Investing in the fight against poverty now will cost much less than paying for the consequences of not acting later, Clinton noted."One in four of all the worlds deaths this year, including huge numbers -- millions of them children -- will come from aids, TB, malaria and infections related to dirty water," Clinton said."All of the things we can do are much cheaper than dealing with the aftermath of calamity,'' he said. "And they are also parenthetically are much cheaper than going to war.''"About half of us -- half the world's people -- still live on less than $2 a day," Clinton noted. "A billion people live on less than a dollar a day. A billion people of the six billion or so who live on earth go to bed hungry at night -- many of them children." Military Waste In Our Drinking Water (8/4/2006)
http://www.alternet.org/envirohealth/39723/
The U.S. military is poisoning the very citizens it is supposed to protect in the name of national security. Producing more hazardous waste annually than the five largest international chemical companies combined, U.S. military weaponry production generates over one-third of our nation's toxic waste, and is one of the most widespread violators of environmental laws. In 2003 the Defense Department exempted the military from environmental laws, resulting in the pollution of our Nations air and water. Along with a host of toxic chemicals, metals and radioactive waste, trichloroethylene (TCE), a known carcinogen and the most widespread industrial contaminant in American drinking water, can be traced to the US Military. TCE is linked to kidney cancer, impaired neurological function, reproductive and developmental damage, and autoimmune disease. The Pentagon is responsible for the TCE contamination of over 1,400 properties.
UN accused of Ignoring 500,000 Chernobyl deaths
http://www.agrnews.org/?section=archives&cat_id=20&article_id=507
The United Nations has ignored evidence of deaths, cancers, and mutations after the Chernobyl accident. A series of reports suggest that at least 30,000 people are expected to die of cancers linked directly to severe radiation exposure in 1986 and up to 500,000 people may have already died as a result of the worlds worst environmental catastrophe. Yet the UNs International Atomic Energy Agency and World Heath Organization say that only 50 deaths can be directly attributed to the disaster, and that, at most, 4,000 people may eventually die from the accident on Apr. 26, 1986.
Ancient Egyptian City In the Grand Canyon?

An Egyptian tomb in the Grand Canyon similar to the Valley of Kings in Luxor, Egypt? An article published on the front page of the Phoenix Gazette on April 5,1909, claimed that just such an Egyptian rock-cut cave was found! - The Gazette article, dated April 5,1909, starts with four headlines, "Explorations in Grand Canyon", "Mysteries of Immense Rich Cavern Being Brought to Light", "JORDAN IS ENTHUSED" and "Remarkable Finds Indicate Ancient People Migrated From Orient." (...) "Over a hundred feet from the entrance is the cross-hall, several hundred feet long, in which are found the idol, or image, of the people's god, sitting cross-legged, with a lotus flower or lily in each hand. The cast of the face is oriental, and the carving shows a skillful hand, and the attire is remarkably well preserved, as is everything in this cavern. The idol most resembles Buddha, though the scientists are not certain as to what religious worship it represents. Taking into consideration everything found thus far, it is possible that this worship most resembles the ancient people of Tibet. Surrounding this idol are smaller images, some very beautiful in form; others crooked-necked and distorted shapes, symbolical, probably, of good and evil. (...) While it cannot be discounted that the entire story is an elaborate newspaper hoax, the fact that it is on the front page, names the prestigious Smithsonian Institution, and gives a highly detailed story that goes on for several pages, lends a great deal to its credibility. What appears to be going on in this case is that the Smithsonian Institution is covering up what is an archaeological discovery of great importance, and radically changes the current views that there was no transoceanic contact in Pre-Colombian times, and that all American Indians, on both continents, are descended from ice age explorers who came across the Bering Straits. Is the idea that ancient Egyptians came to the Arizona area in the ancient past so objectionable and preposterous that is must be covered up? Perhaps the Smithsonian Institution is more interested in maintaining the status quo then rocking the boat with astonishing new discoveries that totally overturn the previously accepted academic teachings. All five beings were as bright as the sun, their faces shined brilliantly, and their presence lit up the whole room. They said, "We were sent by the Creator to ask you to write a poem to help others." I asked "What will the poem be called?" The angels answered very politely, "We are all angels." (...) "The closer you want to know God, seek the truth in all things, give service to others, practice humility, eliminate ego, seek God's will instead of your own will, then you raise the frequency in your mind and spirit. Your thinking and consciousness will become one with the Creators consciousness. You start to use the gifts of the spirit of God to give service to others. By giving service to others, you please God and practice obedience, which in turn raises the frequency in your mind, body, soul, and spirit." In the laws of science and quantum physics, everything that exists in the universe is energy, intimately vibrating and interacting. In this world there is no separation, and so when Deepak Chopra MD talks about the natural world as an extension of all living beings, such statements as the trees are an extension of our own lungs make perfect sense. If we all recognise this reality in our hearts, how could we destroy rainforests without feeling it is our lungs that we are affecting? Quantum theory supports the idea that when we act without reverence in the outer world, the inner self is affected and conversely, positive transformation of our inner selves will have major positive benefits in the outer world. "We expected a good response because of its potential and its implications for the world," says Sean McCarthy. "The next stage is to go through the applications and select a jury of 12 of the worlds best-qualified scientists, who are prepared to publish their findings, however they turn out." The new technology is based on the interaction of magnetic fields and it can be applied to virtually everything from mobile telephones, cars and computers, to heating and lighting, public transport, agriculture and industry. A bizarre case: Girl in far western Nepal emits 'glass pieces' from forehead
http://www.kantipuronline.com/kolnews.php?nid=86844
NEPALGUNJ, Sept 21 - In what seems to be a bizarre case that has baffled medical practitioners, a young girl in the district of Kailai, far western Nepal, has been emitting transparent solid objects, purported to be glass pieces, from her forehead. A team of doctors from the Nepalgunj Teaching Hospital (NTH) at Kohalpur Wednesday began their research on 12-year-old Sarita Bista, who has been excreting glass pieces from the side of her forehead for the last three years. According to family sources, Bista, who is currently under constant medical observation, has emitted more than 130 "glass pieces", averaging 4 cm in length and 1 mm breadth, since January 18, 2006. (...) The doctors claim this to be the first case of its kind in the history of medical science. "There are many examples where cranial bones have grown unnaturally to give the impression of horns. But the human body does not produce glass, Dr Kiduwai said, adding, "It's a strange case." (...0 The girl has been emitting "triangular glass pieces" everyday since August 7 this year, according to her family sources. Once she excreted 12 pieces of glass in one day, said Saritas mother Dhansara Bista. CLIP
The riddle of the rotating spheres Stones baffle NASA scientists
http://community-2.webtv.net/@HH!96!10!0C394463B0D1/WF11/MysterySpheres/
Stones, which are billions of years old and rotate on their axes, captured the attention of Mr. John Hund of Pietersburg fifteen years ago. Review previously published reports about Hund's journey to the Gestoptesfontein mine near Ottosdal in the Northern Province where he found a stone just like the one he read about and saw in the Klerksdorp museum. While playing with the stone on a very flat surface at a restaurant one day, Hund realized it was very well balanced. He took it to the California Space Institute at the University of California to have tests done to determine just how well balanced it was. "It turned out that the balance is so fine, it exceeded the limit of their measuring technology and these are the guys who make gyrocompasses for NASA. The stone is balanced to within one-hundred thousandths of an inch from absolute perfection," explains Hund. Nobody knows what these stones are. One NASA scientist told Hund that they do not have the technology to create anything as finely balanced as this. He said the only way that either nature or human technology could create something so finely balanced would be in zero gravity. Subject: Feedback to The Perfect Storm Series #8: Is America on the Edge of Tyranny... or Freedom?
Date: 06 Nov 2006
Greetings, Jean,
I just read through your new compilation. Much to think about and comment upon, as always. I especially liked the feedback from other readers. You seem to attract a very gifted readership, whose perceptions and thoughts help me to remember to stay connected to the Light, to Love, to always put that first. Not so easy, living in the USA, these days. I'm visiting Buenos Aires soon, planning to be sending articles to LabourStart.org on the union activity down South of the Border.
I especially want to comment on David Fiske's letter. Several years ago, I think in one of my feedback letters to you, I mentioned the book by Chet Snow I think called "Mass Dreams of the Future." The people he worked with --mostly in the USA, as I recall--saw three different futures for themselves--all seen individually, through one point of consciousness, one person's eyes, but falling into 3 distinct futures: one, a survivalist future, with individual armed and protected encampments; another, a planet on which all biological life had been killed through the humans' wars and poisons, and the humans lived in self-sustaining glass globes, protected from the dead and poisonous planet outside. One person, seeing that future, said it was a very lonely life. The third future is the one of the few humans who have earned the right to live on our Earth, our giving Mother, respected, loved, and cherished. Her air clean and pure again, her oceans too. And no animals are ever hurt. I personally think this is key, and that much rests on this.
I agree with your response to Auntie Rainbow, also. I think the search for inner peace is best balanced with a concern for social justice also. It hurts sometimes to choose the path of compassion.
I very much liked Aannsha's article on forgiveness. I've been watching some David Icke videos on google video, and he talks about the vibration of emotions/thoughts of all manifestations of fear--guilt, resentment, etc--being a slow, heavy energetic vibration, while the energy of Love is a fast, high vibrational frequency. Asking for help is important at this time, for me at least. Asking to stay connected, to remember that we ARE connected to the Source, to Divine Love, at all times.
Thank you again, Jean, for all your work in the service of Truth and Love.
Peace,
Kathleen Beatty

Note from Jean: The 3 possible scenarios for the future are quite interesting. So I looked for them on the Web and found this below ...
(...) In an interview in the Leading Edge Newspaper, Dr. Snow suggests that the future is not set in stone, and that the mind can somehow alter the timeline: I believe, by changing our present behavior, we can change our future. We can go back in time, through past-life regression, and heal relationships in the past, and our present will then change because our vibration is no longer the same. As you think, so you are. The mind is the builder. I encourage my clients to work now, in the present, on the pathways they are forming which will build their future. People ask, "Where do I go? Where are the safe lands?" I say to them, "At least get away from water." Let synchronicities guide you. You will be drawn to a place of safety for you. The new energy on the planet is about service, but not in a servile way. Be each other's servant, each giving your best and receiving the best from others. Dr. Snow describes two different regions of time on which he focused: 2100 to 2200 AD and 2300 to 2400 AD. At these times, the population is only about two billion, and there seems to be four different societies. Twenty-five percent of the test group whom he progressed into the future found themselves either living on a space station orbiting Earth or on another planet. Their society was high tech and had contact with friendly extraterrestrials. Thirty-percent of the group lived on Earth in a high tech society with machines, and they lived in domes or underground. They wore jumpsuits and did not seem happy. Eighteen percent of the group were vegetarians, wore lose, flowing robes, and lived happily in harmony with nature. Twenty percent of the group lived in small rustic towns resembling villages of the 19th century. They wore jeans, boots, and tunics, raising farm animals and eating meat. A small percentage of the experimental group reported living in the ruins of major cities like New York and existing in a primitive fashion. CLIP

Rumsfeld and Hussein: Partners in Crime
By David Swanson -- t r u t h o u t | Perspective
06 November 2006
The White House has arranged to announce a guilty verdict for Saddam Hussein two days before the November 7, 2006, elections and, no doubt, plans to finally murder him. Meanwhile an appeals process is delaying, until at least five days after the elections, release of photos of members of the US military and its contractors raping and murdering children and adults at Abu Ghraib.
While use of the death penalty is one of many American practices that much of the world views as barbaric, there can be little doubt that Saddam Hussein is guilty of major crimes stretching far beyond those he's been tried for, and including many in which the United States has been complicit.
A famous image shows Donald Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein. There's nothing wrong with shaking hands with a dictator. It's potentially far more productive than slaughtering 650,000 of his nation's people. Bush should be shaking hands and talking with the leaders of Iran and North Korea rather than threatening to destroy their countries. The trouble is that Rumsfeld wasn't meeting with Hussein in order to promote democracy. Rumsfeld was there on December 20, 1983, as a special envoy for President Ronald Reagan to assist in Iraq's efforts to kill Iranians, including through the use of chemical weapons - an illegal practice that Rumsfeld has more recently used himself against civilians in Iraq, most notably in Fallujah.
The Reagan administration knew that Iraq was using chemical weapons. Nonetheless, following Rummy's visits in December of 1983 and March of 1984, the United States established full diplomatic ties with Iraq on November 26, 1984. Reagan and Rummy and the rest of the truly Neo cons also supplied Iraq with helicopters and other "dual use" equipment and materials (including anthrax), provided intelligence and satellite data to assist Iraq's bombing raids on Iran, prevented passage of strong Senate legislation cutting off assistance to Iraq, and prevented any UN Security Council resolution that would have directly condemned Iraq by insisting that Iran was also using chemical weapons. When Iraq used chemical weapons to slaughter Kurds in Halabja in March of 1988, the Reagan administration falsely blamed Iran. The George Bush Sr. administration continued to supply Iraq with weapons, despite Iraq's then-real chemical and biological weapons programs, until the day before Iraq invaded Kuwait, August 2, 1990.
For all the crimes that Saddam Hussein committed, with and without US assistance or approval, it is noteworthy that there was no terrorism in the nation he controlled, not until we spent over $400 billion of our US tax dollars to transform Iraq into the "central front in the War on Terror" and a training ground for a generation of terrorists.
In the course of making the world less safe for democracy, Donald Rumsfeld has overseen the slaughter of 650,000 Iraqis and 3,000 Americans. He has targeted civilians, journalists, hospitals, and ambulances. He has used white phosphorous as a weapon on civilian families. He has used depleted uranium and a new form of napalm. (When did melting the skin off children become a family value?) He has approved the hiding of prisoners from the Red Cross, the detention of Americans and non-Americans without charge or counsel, and the use of torture. Acceptable torture techniques were posted on the wall at Abu Ghraib in the form of a memo from Rumsfeld.
So, by all means, let's talk about Saddam Hussein's guilt and how much fun it will be to kill him. But let's remember who supported him for decades. And let's ask ourselves what the 650,000 Iraqis we've killed already were guilty of. Wasn't the plan to liberate them, not murder them? Here is guilt aplenty for Rumsfeld, Bush, and Cheney, and the corporate interests they serve.

This Was a Guilty Verdict on America as Well - By Robert Fisk (Nov 6) http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110606L.shtml
So America's one-time ally has been sentenced to death for war crimes he committed when he was Washington's best friend in the Arab world. America knew all about his atrocities and even supplied the gas - along with the British, of course - yet there we were yesterday declaring it to be, in the White House's words, another "great day for Iraq". That's what Tony Blair announced when Saddam Hussein was pulled from his hole in the ground on 13 December 2003. And now we're going to string him up, and it's another great day. (...) And so by hanging this awful man, we hope - don't we? - to look better than him
