"One basic truth can be used as a foundation for a mountain of lies, and if we dig down deep enough in the mountain of lies, and bring out that truth, to set it on top of the mountain of lies; the entire mountain of lies will crumble under the weight of that one truth. And there is nothing more devastating to a structure of lies than the revelation of the truth upon which the structure of lies was built, because the shock waves of the revelation of the truth reverberate, and continue to reverberate throughout the Earth for generations to follow, awakening even those people who had no desire to be awakened to the truth."

- Delamar Duvaris as written in the preface of "Behold the Pale Horse" by William Cooper

REMINDER

UFO Phenomenon with Peter Jennings -- Seeing Is Believing -- A Two-Hour Primetime Special airs tonight, Thursday, February 24, 2004, at 8 PM. Eastern Time on ABC- "As a journalist," says Jennings, "I began this project with a healthy dose of skepticism and as open a mind as possible. After almost 150 interviews with scientists, investigators, and with many of those who claim to have witnessed unidentified flying objects, there are important questions that have not been completely answered - and a great deal not fully explained." Also related (as recommended by Meria) The Phoenix Lights www.thephoenixlights.net - Dr. Lynne and I and thousands of Arizonans were witnesses to the March 13, 1997 mass sighting which is included in this special tonight.

German Protesters Call Bush 'No. 1 Terrorist' (Feb 23, 2005)
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=7716331
MAINZ, Germany (Reuters) - About 12,000 protesters, many carrying banners reading "Bush go home," "No. 1 Terrorist" and "Warmonger," marched through the German city of Mainz on Wednesday, but were mostly kept away from the visiting U.S. president. The official rally, which was twice as big as expected, never got within earshot of President Bush, but a small group of protestors rushed toward his car as he left to visit a U.S. base in nearby Wiesbaden. Police wrestled several demonstrators to the ground and led them away in handcuffs, a Reuters witness said. Bush was visiting Germany for the first time since the 2003 Iraq war, which Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and most Germans opposed. "I'm disgusted by the war in Iraq Bush started that has cost thousands of civilian lives," said Thomas Odenweller, 49, a computer technician. "Now he's trying to normalize relations with Europe. It must be stopped." Ignoring snow and freezing temperatures, the demonstrators held banners chastising Bush in English with slogans such as: "You can bomb the world to pieces but not into peace." Many had pre-printed posters reading: "Bush, No. 1 Terrorist." Before the march, which Mainz police said was one of the largest ever in the city of about 300,000, one speaker told the crowd: "Mr. Bush, please leave our country. You started an illegal war against Iraq." German police confiscated one poster that read: "We had our Hitler, now you have yours." CLIP

Martin's move irritates U.S. PM to announce rejection of controversial plan (Feb. 24, 2005)

OTTAWA - Prime Minister Paul Martin will formally announce today what Ottawa has already told the White House - Canada won't be a partner in the U.S. missile defence scheme.Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew told U.S. Secretary of State Condeleezza Rice of Canada's decision during a meeting in Brussels earlier this week. And senior staff in the Prime Minister's Office relayed the decision to Andrew Card, chief of staff to U.S. President George W. Bush. This morning, Martin will say that Canada has decided not to participate in the operation of the controversial program, ending almost two years of debate by the Liberal government. The Bush administration has made a public show of understanding Martin's decision - masking signs of irritation behind the scenes. The irritation stems not so much from the decision itself, Washington insiders say, but from the time it took Martin to make up his mind.Canadians with business interests in the U.S. were predicting any momentum toward a new relationship between Martin and Bush would stall because of the symbolism of Ottawa's decision, coming after the 2003 decision to stay out of Bush's invasion of Iraq.(...) Martin's decision is sure to be popular among the missile program's detractors in Canada, whose numbers are growing according to a recent Star poll. The survey, conducted by Ekos Research Associates, showed 54 per cent of Canadians want nothing to do with the plan. CLIP

Canada, U.S. 'never more different' (Feb 22)
http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2005/02/22/939067-cp.html
OTTAWA (CP) - Canadians shouldn't worry about their sovereignty because in many ways this country and the United States have never been further apart, says the next ambassador to Washington. Frank McKenna was grilled for 90 minutes by the Commons foreign affairs committee on Tuesday. And while the session was largely overshadowed by controversial comments on continental missile defence, the former New Brunswick premier had some interesting and candid insights on his new job. McKenna thinks the U.S. should back off on criticisms of Canadian marijuana decriminalization. He worries about the gulf between Canadian and American understanding of one another. And he believes the two countries can't do enough to harmonize their shared border. "I don't think I've ever seen the countries, in many ways, more different," McKenna told the committee. "We're going in a very different direction from the United States of America." By example, he cited legislative measures such as same-sex marriage, gun control and pot decriminalization. CLIP

Border talks called 'disturbing' (Feb 14, 2005)

Blue-ribbon panel looks at North American integration - Canadian vice-chair insists group has no hidden agenda. - OTTAWA—An influential tri-national panel has considered a raft of bold proposals for an integrated North America, including a continental customs union, single passport and contiguous security perimeter.According to a confidential internal summary from the first of three meetings of the Task Force on the Future of North America, discussions also broached the possibility of lifting trade exemptions on cultural goods and Canadian water exports. Those last two suggestions were dismissed in subsequent deliberations, say members of the task force, an advisory group of academics, trade experts, former politicians and diplomats from Canada, the United States and Mexico sponsored by the New York-based Council on Foreign Relations. Members said the task force's final report this spring will focus on "achievable" rather than simply academic questions like that of a single North American currency.Nevertheless, the initial debates prompted a sharp reaction from trade skeptics and nationalist groups like the Council of Canadians, who fear business leaders and the politically connected are concocting plans to cede important areas of sovereignty at the behest of American business interests.Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow said the summary, a copy of which was obtained by the Toronto Star, was "disturbing" and "shocking." "What they envisage is a new North American reality with one passport, one immigration and refugee policy, one security regime, one foreign policy, one common set of environmental, health and safety standards ... a brand name that will be sold to school kids, all based on the interests and the needs of the U.S.," she said. Stirring the White House honey pot (Feb 10, 2005)

Why, when I read the name - actually, pseudonymn - "Jeff Gannon," do I see the name Craig Spence? It's unlikely you've missed this 24-hour flap, but in a nutshell, so to speak, here's the story. Bush administration blurs media boundary (February 17, 2005)
http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0217/p01s01-uspo.html
Controversy over a 'journalist' adds to the buzz about message control in capital. - WASHINGTON – First came video "news releases" produced by the Bush administration using a TV news format. Then came three conservative columnists who got big paychecks from federal agencies. Now, there's Jeff Gannon (not his real name), a journalist (maybe) who gained surprisingly easy access to the president, only to lob a sympathetically slanted question. No evidence has surfaced that Mr. Gannon was directed by the White House, but the circumstances ignited a debate over the inner workings of the White House press room. CLIP

Gannongate threatens to expose a huge GOP pedophile and male prostitution ring (Feb 18)
http://onlinejournal.com/Media/021805Madsen/021805madsen.html
Now that is has been discovered that "Jeff Gannon" (real name James D. Guckert), a "reporter" for Talon News Service, afront operation run by the conservative Republican-oriented GOPUSA.com, was using an alias as a cleared White House reporter, details are emerging that threaten to immerse the Bush administration in a major scandal. "Gannongate," which is only now being mentioned by the mainstream news media, threatens to expose a potentially damaging GOP pedophile and male prostitution ring dating back to the 1980s and the administration of George H. W. Bush. James D. Guckert, using the name Jeff Gannon and possibly other aliases, was also running gay porn sites, one with a U.S. Marine Corps theme that solicited males for prostitution. White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said he did not realize Gannon was using an alias until recently. However, rumors in the gay community are circulating about McClellan frequenting gay bars in Austin, Texas. (...) After the Gannon story broke, militaryescorts.com and hotmilitarystud.com were redirected to a secure log-in site at Cupertino, California-based www.dividezero.net/, which was registered to GKG.Net, which had a contact email in College Station, Texas, the home of Texas A&M University and the George H.W. Bush presidential library. Dividezero.net had a secure log-in window but no subscription information. Experts who track illegal content on the web, including child pornography, report that such sites are common where log-in information is provided separately by regular mail so that the identities of subscribers cannot be easily tracked by online enrollment and entry of credit card information. Gannongate is reminiscent of a huge political scandal that surfaced in Nebraska in 1989 when it was learned that Lawrence King, the head of Franklin Community Credit Union in Omaha and a rising African American star in the GOP (he sang the national anthem at George H. W. Bush's 1988 nominating convention in New Orleans), was a kingpin-along with top Republicans in Nebraska and Washington, DC, including George H. W. Bush-in a child prostitution and pedophilia scandal. King was later convicted and jailed for fraud but pedophile and prostitution charges were never brought against him and other Nebraska Republican businessmen and politicians. The scandal, investigated by Nebraska State Senator Loran Schmit, his assistant John DeCamp (a former GOP state senator), State Senate Committee investigator Gary Caradori, and former CIA Director William Colby, reached the very top echelons of the George H. W. Bush administration and GOP. (...) Last year, a senior source on the Washington Times editorial staff (the same paper that broke the GOP pedophile scandal in 1989) linked White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove to gay activities involving top Republican political strategists in Washington, DC.Gannon (Guckert) has been a major player in GOP and fundamentalist Christian politics in Washington and around the country. Bush Gets Stoned by the World Media (24 February 2005)
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/022405Z.shtml
U.S. press less interested in drug remarks. President Bush all but admits to illicit drug use for the first time. Overseas it's the stuff of headlines. At home, the U.S. press has generally downplayed the story. The divergent coverage of Bush's apparent drug use is a textbook study in the difference between the international online media and their American counterparts. On the issue of youthful illicit drug use, most U.S. news editors -- liberal, conservative or other -- defer to Bush in a way that their foreign counterparts do not. The New York Times broke the Bush marijuana story Friday in a front-page report on Doug Wead, a Christian activist who has published a book based in part on conversations with Bush that Wead secretly recorded in 1998 and 1999. On Wead's tapes, whose authenticity the White House does not dispute, Bush came close to admitting he had smoked marijuana and avoided answering a question about whether he had used cocaine. "I wouldn't answer the marijuana questions. You know why? Because I don't want some little kid doing what I tried," Bush said. CLIP

Iraq, Afghan War Costs May Exceed $300 Billions (15 February 2005)
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/021605E.shtml
Washington - With military costs since Sept. 11, 2001, now expected to exceed $300 billion, the Pentagon is spending more per soldier to fight in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere than it did during earlier conflicts. High technology, the costs of paying and protecting a modern soldier, and the worldwide nature of the war on terrorism are all possible reasons, experts say. "Every facet of military expenditure has skyrocketed since the Gulf War," said Loren B. Thompson, a military expert with the Lexington Institute. "The biggest reason why is because the military is more and more a microcosm of the broader economy." CLIP

Imperial Entropy: Collapse of the American Empire
http://www.counterpunch.org/sale02222005.html
It is quite ironic: only a decade or so after the idea of the United Statesas an imperial power came to be accepted by both right and left, and people were actually able to talk openly about an American empire, it is showing multiple signs of its inability to continue. And indeed it is now possible to contemplate, and openly speculate about, its collapse. The neocons in power in Washington these days, those who were delighted to talk about America as the sole empire in the world following the Soviet disintegration, will of course refuse to believe in any such collapse, just as they ignore the realities of the imperial war in Iraq. But I think it behooves us to examine seriously the ways in which the U.S. system is so drastically imperiling itself that it will cause not only the collapse of its worldwide empire but drastically alter the nation itself on the domestic front. (...) Add to that an economy resting on a nearly $500 billion Federal budget deficit, making up part of a total national debt of $7.4 trillion as of last fall, and the continual drain on the economy by the military of at least $530 billion a year (not counting military intelligence, whose figure we never know). Nobody thinks that is sustainable either, which is why the dollar has lost value everywhere -down by 30 per cent against the euro since 2000- and the world begins to lose faith in investment here. I foresee that in just a few years the dollar will be so battered that the oil states will no longer want to operate in that currency and will turn to the euro instead, and China will let the yuan float against the dollar, effectively making this nation bankrupt and powerless, unable to control economic life within its borders much less abroad. UFO Secrecy and the Death of the American Republic (Feb 21) http://keyholepublishing.com/UFO%20Secrecy%20and%20the%20Death%20of%20the%20American%20Republic%20-%20Part%20One.htm
(...) The so-called War on Terror is simply the latest manifestation of the new order of things, of what we may call the Permanent Warfare State. In such a situation, the old republican virtues of freedom and self-government cannot survive. (...) Lest you doubt that America is indeed a bona fide empire that garrisons the world, consider that according to the Pentagon itself, the U.S. military has 860 bases in 41 foreign countries. That's twenty percent of all the nations on earth. But this figure is certainly too low. It leaves out bases in Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, Kosovo, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, and Uzbekistan. Chalmers Johnson, in The Sorrows of Empire, argues that the true number is probably closer to 1,000 bases in perhaps more than 50 nations. (...) Military bases are a big part of it, but not the whole story. American troops, once again according to the Pentagon, are currently being stationed in 135 nations of the world. This is seventy percent of the world's nations. (...) Since World War Two, America has pursued a grand imperial strategy to stake out the globe. Today this strategy wears the scantiest of veils, and America's leaders now talk openly of "full spectrum dominance." That's bureaucratese for "we're taking over the world." Meanwhile, a profound but silent national security revolution has transformed the country. It is silent because there is still no formal acknowledgment of any real change. As long as the external appearances are the same (e.g. President, Congress, Supreme Court, etc.) most people continue to live under the delusion that things are the same, when in fact they are entirely different. Experts See Military Draft as Inevitable (Feb 18, 2005)
http://forum.truthout.org/blog/story/2005/2/18/9166/09308
Anti-war activists fear revival of selective service - There may come a day when Uncle Sam wants Wayne Flenniken for the U.S. Army. In many ways, he's an ideal candidate for military service. At 15, he already has finished high school and is enrolled at Delaware Technical & Community College studying Spanish and English. There is a problem, however. Wayne doesn't want any part of Uncle Sam's Army - or anyone else's, for that matter. "I don't believe in war and I don't like the military in any way, shape or form," he said. "I don't think anyone should be forced to die prematurely." That's why he went to a draft resistance training session Friday in his hometown of Newark. It's why Wayne has begun building his case as a conscientious objector. CLIP

Groups Preparing New Push Against Iraq War (18 February 2005)

Invasion anniversary next month is date of campaign kickoff. (...) Peace groups have been relatively quiet in recent months, especially after President Bush's reelection. But antiwar leaders say they are on the verge of reemerging. Leaders of dozens of peace groups plan to meet in St. Louis this weekend to plot strategies for a new push against the war, from ad campaigns to long-term, grass-roots organizing. They plan to use March 19 and 20, the anniversary weekend of the war's start, as the beginning of an all-out effort to convince the public that the best course for Americans and Iraqis is for the war to end and the troops to come home. Plutonium Missing From British Site (18 February 2005)
http://www.arabnews.com/?page=4§ion=0&article=59174&d=18&m=2&y=2005
LONDON - A civilian nuclear fuels reprocessing plant in northwest England cannot account for some 30 kilograms of plutonium, enough for seven or eight nuclear bombs, a newspaper said yesterday. The annual audit of nuclear material at all of Britain's civil nuclear plants is expected to reveal that the quantity of plutonium at Sellafield was classified as "material unaccounted for" last year, The Times said. Figures published by the British Nuclear Group (BNG) each year reveal an audit of nuclear material which is admitted and processed by the various plants around Britain. A spokeswoman at Sellafield said: "This is material that is unaccounted for, and there is always a discrepancy between the physical inventory and the book inventory. There is no suggestion that any material has left the site." The Sellafield spokeswoman said the most likely reason for any shortfall was due to the complex measuring processes that are carried out. Asked if the 30 kilogram figure raised concern, she replied: "I wouldn't say we would be alarmed by it, because we are only talking about a book figure here." But independent experts were worried about the disclosure, according to The Times. "They make this claim of an auditing problem but I would expect them to be overzealous in the current climate of fears about terrorism," John Large, an independent nuclear consultant, was quoted as saying. Frank Barnaby, a specialist in nuclear weapons, told The Times: "There will always be some material unaccounted for but this is a dramatic development."

America Would Back Israel Attack on Iran' (18 February 2005)
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/021805I.shtml
President George W Bush added a new twist to the international tension over Iran's nuclear programme last night by pledging to support Israel if it tries to destroy the Islamic regime's capacity to make an atomic bomb. Asked whether he would back Israel if it raided Teheran's nuclear facilities, Mr Bush first expressed cautious solidarity with European efforts, led by Britain, France and Germany, to negotiate with Iran. But he quickly qualified himself, adding that all nations should be concerned about whether Iran could make nuclear weapons. "Clearly, if I was the leader of Israel and I'd listened to some of the statements by the Iranian ayatollahs that regarded the security of my country, I'd be concerned about Iran having a nuclear weapon as well. And in that Israel is our ally, and in that we've made a very strong commitment to support Israel, we will support Israel if her security is threatened." His comments appeared to be a departure from the administration's line that there are no plans to attack at present and that Washington backs European diplomatic efforts. The remarks may have reflected Mr Bush's personal thinking on an issue causing deep concern in Washington. CLIP

Getting the Purple Finger (Feb 28 issue)
http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20050228&s=klein
The election results are in: Iraqis voted overwhelmingly to throw out the US-installed government of Iyad Allawi, who refused to ask the United States to leave. A decisive majority voted for the United Iraqi Alliance; the second plank in the UIA platform calls for "a timetable for the withdrawal of the multinational forces from Iraq." There are more single-digit messages embedded in the winning coalition's platform. Some highlights: "Adopting a social security system under which the state guarantees a job for every fit Iraqi...and offers facilities to citizens to build homes." The UIA also pledges "to write off Iraq's debts, cancel reparations and use the oil wealth for economic development projects." In short, Iraqis voted to repudiate the radical free-market policies imposed by former chief US envoy Paul Bremer and locked in by a recent agreement with the International Monetary Fund. So will the people who got all choked up watching Iraqis flock to the polls support these democratically chosen demands? Please. "You don't set timetables," George W. Bush said four days after Iraqis voted for exactly that. Likewise, British Prime Minister Tony Blair called the elections "magnificent" but dismissed a firm timetable out of hand. The UIA's pledges to expand the public sector, keep the oil and drop the debt will likely suffer similar fates. At least if Adel Abd al-Mahdi gets his way--he's Iraq's finance minister and the man suddenly being touted as leader of Iraq's next government. Al-Mahdi is the Bush Administration's Trojan horse in the UIA. (You didn't think they were going to put all their money on Allawi, did you?) In October he told a gathering of the American Enterprise Institute that he planned to "restructure and privatize [Iraq's] state- owned enterprises," and in December he made another trip to Washington to unveil plans for a new oil law "very promising to the American investors." It was al- Mahdi himself who oversaw the signing of a flurry of deals with Shell, BP and ChevronTexaco in the weeks before the elections, and it is he who negotiated the recent austerity deal with the IMF. ‘Only a mass movement can end lraq occupation’ (Feb 17) http://host9.cpusa.org/article/articleview/6492/1/254
While an Islamic Shiite coalition won a slim majority in the Jan. 30 elections in Iraq, the results indicate that no single group can control the country’s political process. One prominent Islamic “moderate,” Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, appears likely to become prime minister in the new transitional government. The head of one of the two large Kurdish parties, Jalal Talabani, may be named president. Several Sunni groups who boycotted the vote now say they will participate in the new government in some form, and in drafting a new constitution. Key struggles in the coming period will be over ending the U.S. occupation, the role of Islam in the nation’s governance, control of the oil and other public sector industries, and establishing a democratic process for new elections to be held at the end of this year. Jaafari has said he opposes a specific timetable for a U.S. military pullout. Current finance minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, another Islamic contender for a top position, recently called for opening up the oil industry to private investment. Iraqi Communist Party spokesperson Salam Ali says these and other Islamic moderates “will not in any substantial way challenge U.S. influence unless a political mass movement challenges the occupation and calls for withdrawal.” Meanwhile, President Bush asked the U.S. Congress for an additional $82 billion primarily for the Iraq occupation. That is on top of some $150 billion already spent on the war. And this will not be the end of it. Brookings Institution analyst Michael E. O’Hanlon predicted “a likelihood of hitting $300 billion, a near-certainty it will reach $250 [billion] and a distinct possibility we’ll reach $400 [billion].” Many Americans are saying, “Enough is enough.” Peace Action is urging voters to tell their congressional representatives, “Not one more dime” for war in Iraq. “Instead, the U.S. must end the occupation, bring our troops home, and support Iraqi sovereignty.” The group said it is time to “stop perpetuating the cycle of violence in Iraq, stop sending so many soldiers and civilians to their graves, and stop diverting precious resources that could be used to rebuild Iraq and fund critical domestic needs.” CLIP

The plunder of Iraq's treasures (Feb 17, 2005)
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/GB17Ak01.html
CARACAS - One million books, 10 million documents and 14,000 archaeological artifacts have been lost in the US-led invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq - the biggest cultural disaster since the descendants of Genghis Khan destroyed Baghdad in 1258, Venezuelan writer Fernando Baez told Inter Press Service (IPS). "US and Polish soldiers are still stealing treasures today and selling them across the borders with Jordan and Kuwait, where art merchants pay up to $57,000 for a Sumerian tablet," said Baez, who was interviewed during a brief visit to Caracas. The expert on the destruction of libraries has helped document the devastation of cultural and religious objects in Iraq, where the ancient Mesopotamian kingdoms of Sumer, Akkad and Babylon emerged, giving it a reputation as the birthplace of civilization. His inventory of the destruction and his denunciations that the coalition forces are violating the Hague Convention of 1954 on the protection of cultural heritage in times of war have earned him the enmity of Washington. Baez said he was refused a visa to enter the US to take part in conferences. In addition, he has been barred from returning to Iraq "to carry out further investigations", he added. "But it's too late, because we already have documents, footage and photos that in time will serve as evidence of the atrocities committed," said Baez, the author of The Cultural Destruction of Iraq and A Universal History of the Destruction of Books, which were published in Spanish. Halliburton Contracts Illegal -- Bush & Cheney Say So What (February 17, 2005)

Cornering the Dragon (February 22, 2005)
http://lists.riseup.net/www/arc/globalnetnews-summary/2005-02/msg00060.html
When newly appointed CIA Director Porter Goss recently warned that China's modernization of its military posed a direct threat to the U.S., was it standard budget time scare tactics? Or did it signal the growing influence of hard-liners in the Bush Administration who want to "contain" China and re-institute the Cold War in Asia? A day later, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld delivered a similar message to the Senate Armed Services Committee. Rumsfeld claimed that within a decade the Chinese navy could surpass the U.S. Navy, and that China was "increasingly moving their navy further from shore." The 2005 Quadrennial Defense Review will reportedly take a similar alarmist view of China's military. The CIA and Pentagon assessments offer nothing particularly new in their military analysis of China. However, both specifically excluded any mention of U.S.-China cooperation around North Korea or last year's CIA analysis that growing economic ties between China and the U.S. made military conflict less likely. "It is a little surprising," James Steinberg, former national security advisor in the Clinton administration told the Financial Times, "that it (the CIA assessment) didn't say anything about the enormous emphasis China places on a stable international environment and constructive relations with the U.S." But not so surprising if the long battle between those in the Republican Party who favor engagement with China has begun to tip in favor of those who advocate confrontation and encirclement. (...) The "containment' policies of the hawks have not damaged the growing Chinese economy---now the world's third largest---or shaken the grip of the Chinese Communist Party. But they have accelerated an arms race in the region, fueled growing nationalist movements in both China and Japan, and raised the stakes of any potential clash over Taiwan. The last time the 'China Lobby' tried to contain China, it was a country devastated by World War II and its own civil war. Today it is a nuclear-armed giant, whose economic growth has lifted economies from Tokyo to Rio de Janeiro. Americans need to ask themselves: Is it really a good idea to push that dragon into a corner?

Bush Tort Reform: Executive Clemency For Executive Killers (February 18, 2005)
By Greg Palast

It's a great day for the Eichmanns of corporate America. President Bush minutes ago signed the ill-named 'tort reform' bill into law, limiting class action suits. Doubtless, Ken Lay, former Enron CEO, is grinning as are the corporate suite killers at drug maker Merck who are now safer from the widows and orphans of Vioxx victims. Closing the doors of justice to the ruined and wrecked families of boardroom bad guys is nothing less than executive clemency for executive executioners. You think my accusation is over the top? Well, please talk with Elaine Levenson. CLIP

Nations step up pressure on Togo (February 19, 2005) http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/africa/02/19/togo.sanctions/
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has suspended Togo from the regional group and placed sanctions on the small western African nation over a controversial transfer of power. Many African leaders have condemned Togo for replacing its deceased president with his son. Gnassingbe Eyadema died earlier this month, and Togo's army appointed his son, Faure Gnassingbe. Some world leaders have said the move will continue an oppressive rule. Thousands took to the streets Saturday in protest, while supporters of Faure Gnassingbe gathered outside the presidential palace. West African leaders have said Togo's move placing Gnassingbe in power amounts to a coup and violates the nation's own laws. ECOWAS imposed a travel ban, imposed an arms embargo, and will recall ambassadors from the country. CLIP

Sixty Days, Next Year
http://www.newcolonist.com/dim_ages.html
You'll have to excuse me, but I don't usually keep a diary. These events began before I understood what was happening, and where it was all headed. It was only later, after it was all going on, that I thought that maybe I should be keeping some sort of record--as if no one else was. We live in The Information Age, or did. Now it's just The Dim Ages. Welcome to my world. (...) June 22 - Oh, fun, fun, fun. Saudi Arabia is mostly on fire, I think. Something about their "port facilities and oil storage areas" being sabotaged yesterday. The oil tankers that were in port all left, some with oil, but most without. The US embassy in Riyadh was shut down yesterday as well, with the last one out bringing the flag, as they say. It was a little annoying to see the news footage of the locals dancing in the streets over that. (And let me tell you: They can't dance.) By the way, where do all those bullets go when they fire those guns in the air? Isn't that kind of dangerous? June 23 - I had to laugh over the evening news tonight: They were actually tracking "the last oil tankers to leave Saudi Arabia". Where they were, how much oil they had, and when they'd get where they were going. Not all of them were headed for us, but ours had the longest trip to make. Forty-five days? Something like that. There wasn't much news about the Saudis, and I guess that's a good thing. I've heard too much already. And the price of gas keeps going up, of course. I've still got over half a tank, so I'm doing ok. I'd say I feel bad for people with big cars and SUV's, but hey: they bought 'em! Ha! (...) June 26 - Gas rationing? What's that? Now there's only special days I can go to the gas station? Good grief. Even numbered tags on even days, odd numbered tags on odd days? How silly is that? One more annoyance. Do they really expect this to be a problem? Well, any more of a problem than it already is? I am so over this. Still, if I do this right, I can go another week or so before I have to play that stupid reindeer game at the gas station. CLIP

Beyond the Peak
http://www.museletter.com/archive/152.html
Closing Address, by Richard Heinberg, to the First US Conference on Peak Oil and Community Solutions, Yellow Springs Ohio, November 14, 2004 (...) Surely a civilization whose entire basis rests upon the extraction and use - and thus the depletion - of a few non-renewable resources is the most vulnerable sort of civilization that has ever existed. Most scientists I know who study these things have come to the conclusion that we are living near the end of the current empire, the first truly global empire in the history of our species. By "end" I don't mean that the whole thing will come crashing down tomorrow or next year. Historically, collapses have usually occurred over a period of decades or centuries. In our case the signs of diminishing returns, and of overextension, are already unmistakable. And, perverse as the comment may seem, I don't think collapse, in this instance, would necessarily be such a bad thing. As Tainter points out, collapse really just means a return to the normal pattern of human life - life, that is, in tribes or villages: small communities, if you will. Collapse is an economizing process in which a society reverts to a level of complexity that is capable of being sustained. (...) I probably can't tell you anything you should be doing that you are not already doing about as well as you can under the circumstances. We all know the drill - grow more of your own food, conserve energy, become active in your local community, learn useful arts and skills, stock up on hand tools. In essence: we must plant the seeds for what can and will survive, for a way of life as different from industrialism as the latter is from the medieval period, a way of life whose full flowering we ourselves may never see in our brief lifetimes. Many of you have been teaching this stuff for decades; you don't need a "how-to" lecture from me. (...) We have only a dwindling amount of time to build lifeboats - that is, the needed alternative infrastructure. It has been clear for at least 30 years what characteristics this should have - organic, small-scale, local, convivial, cooperative, slower paced, human-oriented rather than machine-oriented, agrarian, diverse, democratic, culturally rich, and ecologically sustainable. We have known for a long time that the status quo - a society that is machine-oriented, competitive, inequitable, fast-paced, globalized, monocultural, and corporate-dominated - is deadening to the human spirit and ecologically unsustainable. Panelists Decry Bush Science Policies (21 February 2005)
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/E022105Y.shtml
Washington - The voice of science is being stifled in the Bush administration, with fewer scientists heard in policy discussions and money for research and advanced training being cut, according to panelists at a national science meeting. (...) Issues on global warming, for instance, that achieved a firm scientific consensus in earlier years are now being questioned by Bush policy makers. Proven, widely accepted research is being ignored or disputed, she said. Government policy papers issued prior to the Bush years moved beyond questioning the validity of global warming science and addressed ways of confronting or dealing with climate change. Under Bush, said Bierbaum, the questioning of the proven science has become more important than finding ways to cope with climate change. One result of such actions, said Neal Lane of Rice University, a former director of the National Science Foundation, is that "we don't really have a policy right now to deal with what everybody agrees is a serious problem." Among scientists, said Lane, "there is quite a consensus in place that the Earth is warming and that humans are responsible for a considerable part of that" through the burning of fossil fuels. And the science is clear, he said, that without action to control fossil fuel use, the warming will get worse and there will be climate events that "our species has not experienced before." Asked for comment, White House spokesman Ken Lisaius said, "The president makes policy decisions based on what the best policies for the country are, not politics. People who suggest otherwise are ill-informed." Kurt Gottfried of Cornell University and the Union of Concerned Scientists said a survey of scientists in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found that about 42 percent said they felt pressured to not report publicly any findings that do not agree with Bush policies on endangered species. He said almost a third of the Fish and Wildlife researchers said they were even pressured not to express within the agency any views in conflict with the Bush policies. "This administration has distanced itself from scientific information," said Gottfried. He said this is part of a larger effort to let politics dominate pure science. CLIP

These members of the 369th transportation battalion from New York City fought in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. They walked into the "test tube"- they were the "experiment" - that tested the effects, including the genetic effects, of the 300 tons of uranium used by the U.S. military on that battlefield. Now half a million of them are sick, and many of their babies have birth defects. Far more uranium is being used in Iraq. When I was in eighth grade science class, Mr. Wadley, who reminded us more of an ice cream truck driver than a teacher, taught the pupils one thing with an incredible amount of emphasis: If the test tube paradigm does not reflect the real world paradigm, then there is absolutely no reason to ever do scientific experiments. Wadley further explained that if you monitor the results of a laboratory experiment and allow this information to be a basis for your intelligence in real world applications, you should see results that are nearly identical. CODEX UPDATE

Understanding "Codex" (February 20th, 2005)

Opinion by Consumer Advocate Tim Bolen

YOUR FREEDOM TO CHOOSE NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS IS SERIOUSLY THREATENED - UNLESS YOU ACT NOW
http://www.alliance-natural-health.org/
Proposed EU legislation is set to ban - in August 2005 - many of the leading-edge nutritional supplements we currently take for granted. (...) These critical events in Europe are increasingly likely to lead to restrictions in the US and elsewhere in the world. There is so much still at stake.

Codex Overview
http://www.thenhf.com/codex_overview.htm
(...) The purpose of Codex is to provide a forum to facilitate global trade in foods and promote consumer food safety by developing science based standards and guidelines for use by member countries. Codex guidelines and standards are automatically implemented by the General Agreement on Trade & Tariffs (GATT) of the WHO and become binding for all international trade among GATT signatory countries. (...) The current direction of Codex is off course and is unfortunately driven by a statist and elitist mentality that thinks it knows what is best for consumer health and protection. Unfortunately, such a mindset comes from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s kind of "brave new world" thinking that elevated central planners into a form of "God on Earth." That kind of out-dated thinking has caused more misery, death and disease than can possibly be imagined. CLIP

MayDay - for public health

RIGHT NOW! Danish citizens are now deprived the right to be informed about the beneficial effects of dietary supplements and to choose for themselves Restrictive and consumer hostile supplement legislation is planned by the Danish Food Administration: To eradicate the concept of dietary supplements by changing them into medicines. MayDay requests that EVERYBODY protests NOW! Read more about the serious situation for supplements globally.
CLIP - Recommended by Danish ERN subscriber Jette Møller Ibsen jette@ibsen-co.dk"> who wrote: "Denmark - together with Germany and Norway (non EC member) - is having one of the most restrictive legislations in relation to dietary supplements and herbs in Europe. The Danish Food Administration basically believes in setting vitamin and mineral dosages at the lowest levels of Recommended Daily Allowances (RDA), which only ensure basic survival, not taking into consideration that many people in a stressful and polluted society need much higher intake to prevent disease. The attitude of the restrictive food authorities has long created a great problem for people wanting to keep their good health by taking vitamins, minerals, herbs and nutrients like e.g. chelated minerals and amino acids. Many herbals and substances like e.g. melatonin and lipoic acid are not available on the Danish market, glucosamine and amino acids are considered 'medicines'. Now the biggest threat of all is the Danish Food Administrations's new law on supplements in relation to the European Food Supplement Directive (FSD) which has already been passed in EC, planned to take over present legislation from August 2005. Also a restrictive directive concerning Homeopathic Products and two other EC directives; the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD) and the Pharmaceutical Directive are now on their way. The EC is expected to come up with directives on other nutrients like amino and fatty acids, so we can expect a totally regulated future, if we do not oppose these attempts to suppress alternative medicine."

Scott Ritter Says US Attack on Iran Planned for June

By Mark Jensen

19 February 2005

United for Peace of Pierce County (WA)

Scott Ritter, appearing with journalist Dahr Jamail yesterday in Washington State, dropped two shocking bombshells in a talk delivered to a packed house in Olympia's Capitol Theater. The ex-Marine turned UNSCOM weapons inspector said that George W. Bush has "signed off" on plans to bomb Iran in June 2005, and claimed the U.S. manipulated the results of the recent Jan. 30 elections in Iraq.

Olympians like to call the Capitol Theater "historic," but it's doubtful whether the eighty-year-old edifice has ever been the scene of more portentous revelations.

The principal theme of Scott Ritter's talk was Americans' duty to protect the U.S. Constitution by taking action to bring an end to the illegal war in Iraq. But in passing, the former UNSCOM weapons inspector stunned his listeners with two pronouncements. Ritter said plans for a June attack on Iran have been submitted to President George W. Bush, and that the president has approved them. He also asserted that knowledgeable sources say U.S. officials "cooked" the results of the Jan. 30 elections in Iraq.

On Iran, Ritter said that President George W. Bush has received and signed off on orders for an aerial attack on Iran planned for June 2005. Its purported goal is the destruction of Iran's alleged program to develop nuclear weapons, but Ritter said neoconservatives in the administration also expected that the attack would set in motion a chain of events leading to regime change in the oil-rich nation of 70 million -- a possibility Ritter regards with the greatest skepticism.

The former Marine also said that the Jan. 30 elections, which George W. Bush has called "a turning point in the history of Iraq, a milestone in the advance of freedom," were not so free after all. Ritter said that U.S. authorities in Iraq had manipulated the results in order to reduce the percentage of the vote received by the United Iraqi Alliance from 56% to 48%.

Asked by UFPPC's Ted Nation about this shocker, Ritter said an official involved in the manipulation was the source, and that this would soon be reported by a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist in a major metropolitan magazine -- an obvious allusion to New Yorker reporter Seymour M. Hersh.

On Jan. 17, the New Yorker posted an article by Hersh entitled The Coming Wars (New Yorker, January 24-31, 2005). In it, the well-known investigative journalist claimed that for the Bush administration, "The next strategic target [is] Iran." Hersh also reported that "The Administration has been conducting secret reconnaissance missions inside Iran at least since last summer." According to Hersh, "Defense Department civilians, under the leadership of Douglas Feith, have been working with Israeli planners and consultants to develop and refine potential nuclear, chemical-weapons, and missile targets inside Iran. . . . Strategists at the headquarters of the U.S. Central Command, in Tampa, Florida, have been asked to revise the military's war plan, providing for a maximum ground and air invasion of Iran. . . . The hawks in the Administration believe that it will soon become clear that the Europeans' negotiated approach [to Iran] cannot succeed, and that at that time the Administration will act."

Scott Ritter said that although the peace movement failed to stop the war in Iraq, it had a chance to stop the expansion of the war to other nations like Iran and Syria. He held up the specter of a day when the Iraq war might be remembered as a relatively minor event that preceded an even greater conflagration.

Scott Ritter's talk was the culmination of a long evening devoted to discussion of Iraq and U.S. foreign policy. Before Ritter spoke, Dahr Jamail narrated a slide show on Iraq focusing on Fallujah. He showed more than a hundred vivid photographs taken in Iraq, mostly by himself. Many of them showed the horrific slaughter of civilians.

Dahr Jamail argued that U.S. mainstream media sources are complicit in the war and help sustain support for it by deliberately downplaying the truth about the devastation and death it is causing.

Jamail was, until recently, one of the few unembedded journalists in Iraq and one of the only independent ones. His reports have gained a substantial following and are available online at dahrjamailiraq.com.

Friday evening's event in Olympia was sponsored by South Puget Sound Community College's Student Activities Board, Veterans for Peace, 100 Thousand and Counting, Olympia Movement for Justice & Peace, and United for Peace of Pierce County.

You Want To Win A War Against Iran? By WilliamPitt (Feb 21st, 2005)
http://forum.truthout.org/blog/story/2005/2/21/43834/9243
Scott Ritter got everyone in a twist this weekend by announcing Bush has June plans to bomb Iran.Crazy ol' Ritter, right? A little less than two years ago, when the invasion and occupation of Iraq had just begun, Ritter went out in public and said we were going to lose the war. The invasion was over. We had Baghdad. The statues had been toppled. Everyone went "Whaaaaa?" Two years later, and who's right? We sure as hell aren't winning in Iraq, and if we aren't winning, we're losing. Of course there's a chance Ritter is wrong. A good chance, actually. I have found out in recent months that it was an appalling breach of protocol for Ritter to talk to me for the interview we did for my book. You just don't tell the truth like that out loud, apparently, or so saith the diplomatic circles. By this I mean: There is a good chance the inside people who used to talk to Ritter don't talk to him anymore, or aren't in the know anymore. Things change. So yeah, he could be wrong. But I bet my reputation on him once. I'd be willing to do it again.Meanwhile, I have a plan to win the Iranian War... CLIP

New books, new groups fuel smoldering resurgence of 9/11 skeptics movement

By John Kaminski
skylax@comcast.net

It came as a big — and pleasant — surprise to me. In a chance conversation with a complete stranger at the car wash, I screwed up my courage and dared to say it.

"You know ... our own government was behind 9/11!" I held my breath. My eyebrows scrunched up in anticipation of some mindwashed backlash of preprogrammed patriotic outrage.

The guy turned slowly and looked me squarely in the eye. "I know," he said, his furrowed brow mirroring all the painful pathos that has hogtied all the hearts in America these past three years. I breathed a big sigh of relief. And then I pushed the envelope.

"And you know ... all those people dead in Iraq — thousands of Americans and a hundred thousand Iraqis — all because of lies." The old guy tugged on his frayed plaid cap and wheezed. "I know," he repeated, shuffling his feet, his body involuntarily twitching from the realization of his long-suppressed acknowledgement.

As he left I handed him a copy of my booklet, "The Day America Died," and said, "Here's a basic overview of that terrible day." He took it, nodded stiffly, furtively glanced around to see who might be watching, clambered into into his clean car, and went on his way.

Over the past few weeks, the same thing has happened at the supermarket, in my yard, in the parking lot at the local Wal-mart. I dare to ask the question. And I am shocked to discover — totally contradicting what people hear on television — that people know. People already know!

Our government engineered 9/11 for its own perverse political purposes. In their hearts, many people already know it.

I see it in my e-mails, of course, have for a long time, with 2,000 of my closest friends. They are the ones who are always asking, "Now that we know, what we can do?"

I have failed them miserably in my answers to that question. I always respond rhetorically, philosophically. "Stand securely in your own truth and be an example to others," is about the best I can come up with. "Try to spread the word." Or, "revolution evolves one person at a time." Pretty lame, nonspecific stuff.

But then I noticed my book orders were spiking. Ten booklets here, 20 there, an occasional hundred for a meeting that someone had scheduled. Then it began to dawn on me. People were handing them out, trying to convince others. A whole new group of people was turning on to the real 9/11 story.

Finally, after years of brainwashed obedience to the clumsy media lies, the tragedy-forced patriotism, the false statements of our leaders were finally being perceived. People finally were finally waking up. New converts to the 9/11 skeptics movement were beginning the long, painful journey to that horrific realization — our leaders killed their own people merely for profit, and now were killing thousands more, every day, all over the planet, for the same evil purpose.

And people began calling me, telling me about their meetings. I didn’t dare believe it was a second wave. But the calls kept coming.

The first thought I had was that the second wave shouldn’t make the same mistakes the first wave did. The first wave failed. The perps, so far, have gotten away with their evil deeds. In fact, one of the so-called leaders of the first wave, Mike Ruppert, has declared the 9/11 issue dead. Good. He’s retired. We don’t need him. He was the prime saboteur of the first wave, ruining the first big 9/11 forum in San Francisco with his oil company propaganda.

The second wave should know that peak oil has nothing to do with 9/11. It’s a disinformational distraction. Peak oil is a trend that may or may not be true. Most honest people think it’s just another oil company ruse to jack up prices. But even if it is a serious social problem, it has nothing to do with 9/11, the crime of the century, about which most of the public has been told nothing but lies.

Our leaders lied about what happened. They refused to hold an investigation. They destroyed the evidence. They hid the videotapes. They blamed Muslims but didn’t to this day produce a shred of evidence against them. They deceived our own air defenses with bogus drills designed to confuse everyone. They invented fantastic cellphone calls. They met with terrorists and let important witnesses slip out of the country. The list of their deceptive maneuvers is nearly endless.

But there is one thing they couldn’t hide, and that is the issue that the second wave, IMHO, should focus on. Don’t be distracted by bells and whistles, by airplanes shooting missiles or faux Islamicists in strip clubs, don’t get bogged down by what did or didn’t hit the Pentagon or trapped in endless arguments about slow flying interceptors, gaps in the NORAD coverage, or whether Flight 93 was shot down.

There is one issue, and one issue only. It is the issue that will hang them.

The time the towers took to fall.

Jetliners striking building hundreds of feet in the air could not possibly have dropped those towers in ten seconds. Think about it. 47 robust steel columns anchored in bedrock hundreds of feet below had to be demolished simultaneously at the instant of collapse in order for 9/11 to happen as it did. And that is exactly what happened.

I continue to sell plenty of my booklets because of its simple narrative that takes people from accepting the government’s version to realizing the official version is a lie.

But now, newcomers to the 9/11 mystery have two even better teaching tools to help them convince those who still believe their government loves them, and would never do anything to hurt them. And that it’s patently clear that the WTC towers were brought down by controlled demolition.

The first is an ingenious and thorough narrative sculpted together by WING-TV guru Victor Thorn (and his trusty sidekick Lisa Guliani) titled “9/11 on Trial: The World Trade Center Collapse — Guilty.”

It’s written in the form of a trial transcript and takes the reader through the strange, anomalous process of the WTC collapse step-by-step, cleverly and authoritatively weaving witness testimony culled from the works of some of the finest investigators in the 9/11 skeptics movement, including Jim Hoffman, Eric Hufschmid, Jerry Russell & Richard Stanley, Christopher Bollyn, Ralph Omholt, Peter Meyer, Jeff King, Dave MacGowan, Jim Marrs, and David Ray Griffin, among other diligent soldiers in the battle to expose the government’s lies.

I and many other 9/11 observers have been harping for a long time that each of the Twin Towers collapsed in roughly ten seconds, a physically impossible feat for a structure knocked down by pressure from near the top. The simple resistance of thousands of tons of steel and concrete would make such a collapse a long, slow, and incomplete were it possible at all to happen in the way the government said it did, which it was not.

But the Thorn/Giulani book raises even more interesting points, and even more impossible contradictions.

For instance, just prior to the first collapse, the top of the South Tower tipped to 23 degrees, but then it suddenly stopped its angular momentum, changed direction, and fell straight down, just about the time many people reported explosions at the bottom of the tower. The only way the momentum of the falling top could have been changed in mid-collapse was to blast away a portion of EACH of the 47 core columns, causing the building to fall uniformly into its own footprint.

How the Towers fell is impossible according to the official story because the gravitational potential energy of a skyscraper is nowhere near sufficient to destroy its own frame.

“Given that the lower columns were radically thicker steel, and obviously stronger, some of the columns should have still been standing — in some significant number.”
— Witness 8 (Omholt)

“For the WTC buildings to react the way the did, literally thousands of super heavy-duty joints and weld would have to ‘snap’ at precisely the same instant.”
— Witness 8 (George Humphrey)

“In order for the floor to fall, hundreds of joints has to break almost simultaneously on 236 exterior column s and 47 core columns. FEMA does not bother to explain how this could occur.”
— Witness 10 (Hufschmid)

If all the joints weren’t heated at the same rate, the building would not fall uniformly.

Thorn’s patient narrative unveils all manner of revealing information to use in further discussions. One is the maximum temperature unprotected steel supports in these fires if 680 degrees; the first critical threshold in structural steel is 1,022 degrees.

These tests ultimately tell us that ...

“Fire did not weaken the WTC structure sufficiently to cause the collapse of the towers.”
— Witness 11 (J. McMichael)

I won’t give away too much more of the narrative, but just let me say THIS BOOK is a wonderful syllabus for anyone trying to comprehend the complex ramifications of the 9/11 tower collapses, perhaps the most accessible roundup to date of the single piece of evidence that should leave the American people demanding trials for treason and mass murder for hundreds of its most powerful leaders.

Why were those odd and powerful seismographic spikes recorded moments BEFORE the towers fell? Why were pools of molten steel still bubbling at the bases of the three fallen towers ONE WEEK after 9/11? Is there any doubt that all three buildings were brought down by controlled demolitions? No.

This book, being a deftly weaved digest of the best 9/11 research out there, delivers the goods. It is indispensable to anyone trying to get to the bottom of the greatest crime in American history.

Simply Google WING-TV (I’ll write more about that later) for more information and how to get it. It’s only seven bucks. Hand them out to your friends.

Why is the second wave occuring? Because people are realizing that 9/11 is the key to regaining our freedom, to taking our country back from the cynical psychopaths running the U.S. government who are implementing diverse and subversive programs of mass murder all over the world.

9/11 is the key. The American government is willing to kill anyone so the bankers get their way. This book demonstrates — very clearly — that our leaders are guilty of treason and mass murder. That’s what motivates the second wave. Now that the sadness has waned, and the faux patriotic invective has begun to ring hollow in the wake of dead and sick soldiers being brought home from Iraq, more people are beginning to question the nightmare America has become.

Another crucially important tool for the second wave, among many, is another small, inexpensive book, titled “Waking Up From Our Nightmare: The 9/11/01 Crimes in New York City,” by Don Paul and Jim Hoffman. While the Thorn/Guliani book is a relatively simple read for laymen, the Paul/Hoffman book is for those who can digest intricate technical information, and understand the 9/11 hoax in all its gory detail. Used as one of Thorn’s sources, it has a much wider focus, revealing photographs, meticulous footnotes and sells for only $10.

Most importantly, it reserves its primary focus for the most critical piece of 9/11 evidence: the time the towers took to fall. And it delves into the evidence in a thorough and forthright way. It contains no wild theories, only scientific fact, which of course proves our own leaders murdered 3,000 of our own citizens, not to mention all those other hundreds of thousands of innocent victims around the world.

One of the many great nuggets of knowledge in this book is how New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani explained to a reporter that he was warned the first tower was going to collapse although even the firefighters in the building didn’t know that. Giuliani never mentioned who told him.

Order it at http://www.wtc7.net/store/books/wakingup/

Now, at many of the meetings that are being held around the country as interest in the 9/11 deception continues, my little booklet “The Day America Died” is being handed out to get people to take the first step. Not to try to diminish my own sales, but I would recommend these other two books be handed out and discussed as well, because they furnish a simple way of getting people on board this spontaneous attempt to try to take our country away from the criminals who are oppressing (and destroying) the world.

So far, I know of informal meetings utilizing my booklet that have been held in the following states: Arizona, California (3 — Burbank, San Diego, Sonora), Connecticut, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas (2 — San Antonio and Houston), Vermont, Washington, as well as in France and New Zealand. I’m sure there are many others using other materials. If you want to get hooked into this, ask around, or ask me, and I’ll clue you in as best I can.

One thing I can tell you to do is listen to what is probably the last remaining bastion of actual free speech in the United States, the crusading radio patriots on shortwave and Internet broadcasts, principally on the Genesis Radio Network (Jeff Rense and Alex Jones) and the Republic Broadcasting System (John Stadtmiller and Jack Blood). Yes, you sometimes have to put with up with religious crazies on these networks, but if you pick your shows carefully, there’s a wealth of information to be gained.

And for new people coming into the 9/11 skeptics movement for the first time, I would be remiss were I not to mention two particular individuals who serve as examples of exactly what is needed for this movement to succeed in its goal.

People with clout.

You need to try and understand that most of the people who have carried the load in battling to expose the government’s hoax about 9/11 are essentially like me, not affluent, not out to make money, and often living hand to mouth while concentrating on doing something they think is of critical importance to the future of the human species. This group includes most of the people mentioned above, but also thousands of others who are only interested in overcoming the American media mindlock and presenting truth in the cause of justice.

To mention them all would be impossible. But specific to 9/11, I would advise newcomers to check in periodically with the work of Brian Salter and Dave MacGowan for indispensible insights into the latest developments.

But two people WITH clout have not only served as an examples of who we need to succeed in restoring truth and justice to the American way of life, but have provided an invaluable lift to a floundering 9/11 skeptics movement that has been sabotaged by moles, distracted by hare-brained theses, and diminished by goons who are only after personal power.

These two courageous individuals are Jimmy Walter and Karl Schwarz.

Walter is the heir to a construction fortune who has already spent $4 million on print ads trying to bring the 9/11 hoax to the public’s attention. He has also taken his lumps on mainstream TV trying to explain what he’s doing (many of us have seen the Posner fiasco on CNN, in which he was suppressed, ridiculed and prevented from getting his message across). But he’s still in there fighting, looking for new ways to crack the public’s cement mind.

To see what he’s up to, go to http://www.reopen911.org/ as especially read Webster Tarpley’s chronicle “9-11 Synthetic Terrorism” (right below the great tower explosion photos on the left), which is every bit as good as the books by Thorn and Hoffman mentioned above.

Schwarz is the nanotech CEO and Christian Republican who has turned on the strawman Bush with several initiatives to try to get the legal establishment in New York state to act on convincing evidence, including much that has not been produced elsewhere, that would send many of our leaders to prison for a long time.

For a complete look at his interesting perspective on 9/11 (read all six parts for the full effect) and the ingenious actions he has taken, go to
http://www.onlinejournal.com/Special_Reports/021205Schwarz/021205schwarz.html

If we had a few more of these establishment types who were less concerned with their own bank accounts and more committed to the welfare of their country and the world we all live in, Bush and Cheney and their gay prostitute newsmen would not be sitting in the White House right now, they’d be in Guantanamo in orange jumpsuits awaiting trial on the capital charges of treason, mass murder and various other crimes against humanity.

We especially need people of means to buy the three books mentioned above in quantity and hand them out to a large number of people. There are millions of Americans who are waiting to get this information, and suffer the painful epiphany that this world they have allowed to be created by their own acquiescence and indifference ultimately plans on exploiting and killing them.

So, second wavers, I think the two books and 27 links in this piece will get you off to a good start. Thank you for your sudden awakening. Your efforts are sorely needed.

Just like that guy at the car wash, tell people you know what the real story about 9/11 actually is. And get them to tell others.

I don’t think I have to tell you at this point that this is the battle for our future, the battle for everything, and the entire strength of the U.S. government and all the prostituted, mind-controlling mass media is arrayed against us.

And that being said, we have no choice but to win. For our children. And their children. Hell, do it for yourself, because you and I and everybody else are definitely at risk to lose everything we love. Carry on.

An administration that resisted spending the tens of millions required to fortify airline security before 9/11 is nearing the $300-billion mark on Afghanistan and Iraq. (...) The answer is unknowable and, at this date, moot. Yet it was appalling to learn last week that the White House suppressed until after the election a damning report that exposes the administration as woefully incompetent if not criminally negligent. Belatedly declassified excerpts from still-secret sections of the 9/11 commission report, which focus on the failure of the Federal Aviation Administration to heed multiple warnings that Al Qaeda terrorists were planning to hijack planes as suicide weapons, make clear that this tragedy could have been avoided. Regaining My Humanity

By Camilo Mejia - CodePink.org

17 February 2005

I was deployed to Iraq in April 2003 and returned home for a two-week leave in October. Going home gave me the opportunity to put my thoughts in order and to listen to what my conscience had to say. People would ask me about my war experiences and answering them took me back to all the horrors-the firefights, the ambushes, the time I saw a young Iraqi dragged by his shoulders through a pool of his own blood or an innocent man was decapitated by our machine gun fire. The time I saw a soldier broken down inside because he killed a child, or an old man on his knees, crying with his arms raised to the sky, perhaps asking God why we had taken the lifeless body of his son.

I thought of the suffering of a people whose country was in ruins and who were further humiliated by the raids, patrols and curfews of an occupying army.

And I realized that none of the reasons we were told about why we were in Iraq turned out to be true. There were no weapons of mass destruction. There was no link between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda. We weren't helping the Iraqi people and the Iraqi people didn't want us there. We weren't preventing terrorism or making Americans safer. I couldn't find a single good reason for having been there, for having shot at people and been shot at.

Coming home gave me the clarity to see the line between military duty and moral obligation. I realized that I was part of a war that I believed was immoral and criminal, a war of aggression, a war of imperial domination. I realized that acting upon my principles became incompatible with my role in the military, and I decided that I could not return to Iraq.

By putting my weapon down, I chose to reassert myself as a human being. I have not deserted the military or been disloyal to the men and women of the military. I have not been disloyal to a country. I have only been loyal to my principles.

When I turned myself in, with all my fears and doubts, it did it not only for myself. I did it for the people of Iraq, even for those who fired upon me-they were just on the other side of a battleground where war itself was the only enemy. I did it for the Iraqi children, who are victims of mines and depleted uranium. I did it for the thousands of unknown civilians killed in war. My time in prison is a small price compared to the price Iraqis and Americans have paid with their lives. Mine is a small price compared to the price Humanity has paid for war.

Many have called me a coward, others have called me a hero. I believe I can be found somewhere in the middle. To those who have called me a hero, I say that I don't believe in heroes, but I believe that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

To those who have called me a coward I say that they are wrong, and that without knowing it, they are also right. They are wrong when they think that I left the war for fear of being killed. I admit that fear was there, but there was also the fear of killing innocent people, the fear of putting myself in a position where to survive means to kill, there was the fear of losing my soul in the process of saving my body, the fear of losing myself to my daughter, to the people who love me, to the man I used to be, the man I wanted to be. I was afraid of waking up one morning to realize my humanity had abandoned me.

I say without any pride that I did my job as a soldier. I commanded an infantry squad in combat and we never failed to accomplish our mission. But those who called me a coward, without knowing it, are also right. I was a coward not for leaving the war, but for having been a part of it in the first place. Refusing and resisting this war was my moral duty, a moral duty that called me to take a principled action. I failed to fulfill my moral duty as a human being and instead I chose to fulfill my duty as a soldier. All because I was afraid. I was terrified, I did not want to stand up to the government and the army, I was afraid of punishment and humiliation. I went to war because at the moment I was a coward, and for that I apologize to my soldiers for not being the type of leader I should have been.

I also apologize to the Iraqi people. To them I say I am sorry for the curfews, for the raids, for the killings. May they find it in their hearts to forgive me.

One of the reasons I did not refuse the war from the beginning was that I was afraid of losing my freedom. Today, as I sit behind bars I realize that there are many types of freedom, and that in spite of my confinement I remain free in many important ways. What good is freedom if we are afraid to follow our conscience? What good is freedom if we are not able to live with our own actions? I am confined to a prison but I feel, today more than ever, connected to all humanity. Behind these bars I sit a free man because I listened to a higher power, the voice of my conscience.

While I was confined in total segregation, I came across a poem written by a man who refused and resisted the government of Nazi Germany. For doing so he was executed. His name is Albrecht Hanshofer, and he wrote this poem as he awaited execution.

Guilt

The burden of my guilt before the law
weighs light upon my shoulders; to plot
and to conspire was my duty to the people;
I would have been a criminal had I not.

I am guilty, though not the way you think,
I should have done my duty sooner, I was wrong,
I should have called evil more clearly by its name
I hesitated to condemn it for far too long.

I now accuse myself within my heart:
I have betrayed my conscience far too long
I have deceived myself and fellow man.

I knew the course of evil from the start
My warning was not loud nor clear enough!
Today I know what I was guilty of...

To those who are still quiet, to those who continue to betray their conscience, to those who are not calling evil more clearly by its name, to those of us who are still not doing enough to refuse and resist, I say "come forward." I say "free your minds." Let us, collectively, free our minds, soften our hearts, comfort the wounded, put down our weapons, and reassert ourselves as human beings by putting an end to war.

IMAGINE - John Lennon

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

HAVEN'T WE ALL BEEN IN A SIMILAR SITUATION - Sort of! - AT SOME POINT?... TRYING TO GET SOMEONE CLOSE TO US TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON IN AMERICA...

Me, My Mother, and the New World Order

by Lisa Guliani

I just got off the phone with my mother. The conversation left me numb. Why? Because my mother is asleep, or mostly asleep when it comes to what's going on in America. My mother can't allow herself to absorb my words because my words unnerve her. They make her mentally freak out. I speak of those who really drive the U.S. government and shape public policy. I might as well be talking backwards. My mother is not a mentally deficient person - just a brainwashed person. When I try to tell her of the Bush-bin Laden family connections, she says nothing. Hello, are you in there, Mom? I describe the Bilderbergs. I tell her of the Bush family's past history of funding Hitler and the Nazis, and she responds with, What happened to you? You were never this radical before. Are we having the same conversation here, Mom? I tell her that our government not only facilitated the events of 9-11, but they - along with the media - have engaged in a massive cover-up and have deceived the American people. I explain things slowly. My mother replies with, Whatever you say.

I tell her the television is a conditioning tool with repetitive stories on every channel. My mother says she sees "different" stories because she watches FOX, the History Channel and National Geographic. Okaaay, I ask her to name one news story on television that she would classify as 'different'. I'm still waiting for an answer. She does finally get around to asking me (in a snotty way) who is running the government, if not her precious 'W'. I point her toward the PNAC and people like Wolfowitz, Perle, Kissinger, Kristol, Krauthammer, Cheney, etc. I bring up the CIA and some of the fun stuff they've been into over the past few years. I use the words "global elites" and "international bankers".

She tells me she ADMIRES the PNAC men, although until I told her, she had never heard of the PNAC. The first wave of nausea sweeps over me. Hellooo, Mother. Anybody in there?

I tell her we are close to war with Iran. She says, GOOD! We should bomb them. I have to hold my breath and count to ten before responding to this or I'll scream at her. I count to ten by two's, hoping to quell the second wave of nausea. I systematically list all the reasons why - NO, Mom - war with Iran is not 'good'. I point out how different war with Iran will be if it comes to that. I point to their intact military and their size, their larger population, the fact that they haven't suffered from 13 years of UN sanctions. I point to their potential use of nuclear weapons against us. I use the word 'bloodbath' because it's very vivid and my mother can picture that. She was a nurse back when her brain worked. I add, "We may get more war than we bargained for if we attack Iran, Mom." I talk about central banks in Iraq and Afghanistan and Bush's axis of evil. My mother says our troops are not ready because they're tired. I tell her they're tired because they're stretched thin all over the globe in more than 140 countries to protect the interests of international bankers. Our national defense is being misused. She asks what is wrong with me, rather than seeing what is wrong with this scenario. My mother thinks our troops are where they should be, because 'W' told her so when he read off the teleprompter. She asks suspiciously, Who have you been talking to? I fought the urge to say "Elvis." This would have been the perfect moment for her to accuse me once again of being in a cult, but she took a pass. Tonight, she settled for screaming at me in her head.

This woman who gave birth to me believes the talking heads on FOX news. FOX is different, she says. The third wave of nausea hits me. My mom says quite firmly that she is aware of what's going on in America. She's aware because Bill O'Really keeps her informed. God help us. I'm taking chances by trying to have this discussion with her. We don't speak often. We probably won't talk for a long time after tonight - as in years - so I have to give it my best shot. The level of mental conditioning in my parents is astounding to me because they are smart people. I try not to condemn them for voting for Bush, but frankly, it's embarrassing and inexplicable. It would be different if they didn't have all the political books we've sent, which they do. It would be different if they didn't know me. Then again, they don't want to know me. I grew up to be too "radical".

I'll cut her some slack for not reading the books we've sent her because she needs cataract surgery. Maybe in March, after the surgery, she'll pick up a book again. If she does, it will likely be some slobbering epic multi-generational love story. She actually takes notes when she reads those books. She can't handle our books. They're too radical. She says to me, Well, I suppose the next thing you're going to tell me is that the holocaust never happened. I start to go there, but then I decide to tell her how the Zionists betrayed the Jews in Europe, and what's really going on between the Israelis and Palestinians. I get into the American Union, FTAA, the Patriot Act and illegal immigration. I hit everything but anti-hate speech legislation and unrepatriated POWs. Man, I'm on a roll because I can't believe she let me get this far without slamming the phone down. So I push the envelope of her patience. I broach the subject of Skull & Bones and ask her if she wants to know the initiation rite 'W' participated in. She says, No, I don't want to know. I didn't think so. I tell her anyway.

I return to the slightly more palatable subject of Zionists within our government and media and mention the story of Israel's deliberate attack on the USS LIBERTY in 1967, thinking maybe my mother will have sympathy for NAVY men, being that my father is also a former Navy man. She takes a deep, heavy breath at this point, which I correctly interpret as exasperation. The lack of argument is still a good sign and spurs me onward. No dial tone yet. It's not often my mother's words fail her, even when she's dead wrong. After all, she's Sicilian. I then tell her how and why the Israelis killed Rachel Corrie and how the U.S. government constantly gives Israel a free pass on their crimes, not to mention tons of U.S. taxpayer dollars. I relate how Israel engages in terrorist activity with U.S. approval, and how all this is being done brazenly, openly and shamelessly. I tell her our government is betraying Americans and our leaders are guilty of treason. Her voice becomes louder and she tries to yell over my voice. Where are you getting this crap? So far, so good. Yelling is better than the dial tone, so I'll accept that. This is how we communicate nowadays.

I then figure, what the hell and jump into the deep end of the pool (as far as my folks are concerned). I say 'IRS'. This is TABOO in my family because once-upon-a-time many years ago my parents were audited. This audit traumatized them for LIFE. It destroyed them. They won't even whisper 'IRS,' think aloud 'IRS' thoughts, or God-forbid - dream 'IRS' nightmares. This is the final straw on my mother's camel. Her brain - and this conversation - simultaneously implode. All discussion abruptly ceases. I envision her clutching rosary beads in one hand and Xanax in the other, mouthing a silent novena, praying for God to remove my vocal chords. There will be NO talk - ZERO - of 'IRS', not in my family, not in this life or the next. My parents have erased 'IRS' from their vocabularies. They refuse to acknowledge its existence, except when writing that 'check' on April 15th. On the 'IRS', my parents know I'm right, but they're too freaked out of their minds with fear to venture into any sort of intelligent discussion about it. I scare the hell out of them because I won't shut the hell up about how criminal it is. When they have nightmares, I play the leading role. In real time, they dutifully disavow any knowledge of me - ya know, just in case anybody comes knocking... Lisa who? Never heard of her... I can picture it.

Still, I tell my mother about "Freedom Drive" and the time we went to Washington to hear former IRS agents give speeches about IRS crimes against the American people, and to march in protest around the federal buildings. She says, When were you in Washington, and why would you want to do that? Figure it out, Mom. Like I never mentioned it. Guess she doesn't remember that particular conversation, or the article I wrote and sent to her describing it in detail. What's my name, Mom? I tell her (again) that the FED is a privately-owned, for-profit corporation and not 'federal' in any way, shape or form. She begins to stammer and sputter as I go on about how domestically earned income within the U.S. is not supposed to be taxed, and so on. I move on to the Fed banking cartel. Her breathing is becoming more rapid. I hear a huge gasp, like she just sucked in wind. She's probably trying to take her own pulse. Suddenly, I find myself cut off in mid-sentence. The party's over. I don't believe what you're saying, she tells me. And I don't believe that for a minute, Mom. My mother hates the IRS with a razor-sharp Sicilian passion. So I shoot back with, "What do I have to gain by lying to you about all this stuff?" She has no answer. There is no answer. Again, I'm tempted to ask, "What's my name?" Better yet, what's your name?"

I can feel her anxiety seeping through the receiver. It happens every time I resurrect my 'radical' self into their lives when they'd rather I stay dead. I know this time, for about 15 minutes, she heard me, sorta. Then I lost her. They wear a scarlet "A" on their chests. "A" as in Audit. My father chooses not to get on the telephone with me at all. He doesn't chat with 'radical' dead people.

The books we sent them - The New World Order Exposed, The New World Order Illusion, America Before the Fall, 9-11 Exposed, and Hunters of Souls - are never acknowledged, and probably never opened. The covers alone probably make them hyperventilate. They never acknowledge the links to information in the e-mails I send. I might as well e-mail Bush. At least I'd get a warm, fuzzy auto-generated response from him. I've just sent them some links to radio interviews Victor Thorn and I recently did for his new book, 9-11 On Trial. My mother says she hasn't been on her computer for a year. Like I'm buying that b.s. She won't even turn it on to hear me on the radio? Who am I, Mom? I tell her to have my father, the ghost, check them out. Weakly and unconvincingly, she says Okay, but he's not going to do it now. He will never do it. I then catch her on something she should know very well, but apparently she's forgotten. Either that or it's the brain drugs she's chewing on. Brain drugs make you forget who you are, as well as a zillion other useful bits of important information. My mother has forgotten how long it takes to cremate a body. She used to know this stuff. My father was a funeral director for more than 30 years. My mother knows damn well knew how long it takes to cremate a body. She's watched bodies being cremated, for God's sake. I tell her that over 1000 bodies were vaporized on 9-11 at the World Trade Center towers and couldn't be identified. I asked her what she thought about that, considering my previous discussion with her about controlled demolition at Ground Zero on that day. She starts screaming at me. Whoa, there's life in there after all...cool. I tell her how long it takes to cremate a body at temperatures over 500 degrees. Her voice is high-pitched and shrill. She argues indignantly and incorrectly. She says, That is NOT TRUE! Ask your father! I say, "Sure, let's ask him." Of course, this doesn't happen. She refuses to put him on the phone; and remember, he doesn't get down with the dead. He just embalms them and sticks them in a box. It's no use pushing the point. I've planted some more seeds in my mother's mind. Good enough for now. Later, I send her the cremation info in an e-mail, directly from a funeral home website, which totally substantiates what she denied. She will never read it. But my father will. He'll just shake his head and mutter to himself what a crazy bitch I've become.

She says she is listening, but who knows. I assure her that I know how difficult this stuff is to hear, to absorb, to digest and to believe. I urge her to read, read, read and not to simply 'believe' anyone - even me. I tell her my name for good measure. Part of her is still alive in there somewhere. De-programming is virtually impossible with someone who is zonked on anti-depressants and sleeping meds. My mother's reality is far different from mine.

Our phone call ends like this: I love you dearly, but I don't want to talk about politics with you. I don't ever want to discuss politics with you - especially over the phone. Fear and paranoia. I lost her. Conversation over. Click. The dreaded dial tone.

I've spent the last few years telling people every single day that they must not live in fear. Fear paralyzes and dictates behavior if allowed to consume your thoughts. If it rules your brain, it will consume your life. The only thing that terrifies me: I cannot wake up my parents.

Bush's "Mission Accomplished" election charade

February 17, 2005

Once again the toady army of media Bushlickers has proclaimed "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq. And once again, the real outcome is murder, mayhem and utter catastrophe, with worse yet to come.

For endless prime time hours, Fox and the major news desks -- the Izvestia and Pravda of Bush's America -- blare the party line about the "miraculous success" of the Iraqi balloting.

No doubt it set amazing precedents. For example, this may have been the world's first election in which the location of the polling places was kept secret, along with the list of the major candidates.

It may also be remembered for the vast numbers of Iraqis who refused to vote.
The Iraqi vote did differ from the recent balloting in Ohio in that those Iraqis who turned out were at least able to get ballots.

In Ohio, of course, the Bushies did all they could to deny young people, African-Americans and other suspected Democrats the ability to vote. They shorted voting machines in key precincts, deployed "challengers," screwed with both registrations and provisional ballots, and generally made it as hard as possible for certain Americans to cast a ballot -- or get it counted.

As he sang the praises of the Iraqi war, Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, both administered the election and co-chaired the state's Bush-Cheney campaign. He refused to allow international observers access to the polling places. He continues to refuse to testify anywhere under oath, even before a Republican-controlled Congressional committee, which now promises to come to Ohio to get his testimony.

In Iraq, the Americans desperately sought as many voters as they could traipse before a camera to get their fingers inked, even if it seemed likely they would vote against the US-backed candidate.

As it turned out, there was no need to bring out more Iraqis to do that. The votes that were counted put America's Allawi a distant third.

And amidst all the hype, the Bushmedia has studiously ignored the fact that the actual winner was backed by an Iranian-born Muslim fundamentalist whose ultimate intent may well be to take Iraq back to the stone age. Once again the fundamentalist church-state Sharia law is being touted as the basis for a new constitution. Stoning those who might offend the official state religion is again on the table. Women's rights are almost certainly a thing of the past.

All of which is very much in line with the Bush agenda for the United States. The death penalty, church-state merger, attacks on abortion and family planning, use of obscenity laws to control free media and much more fit perfectly into Bush's jihad agenda. A right wing fundamentalist is a right wing fundamentalist, whether Islamic or Christian.

But what the Bushies are desperate to hide is that they have dragged the US into a grotesquely bloody and hugely expensive war (which is nowhere near over) to install a pro-Iranian regime. While he rattles an increasingly flimsy saber about invading Iran, Bush has given Iraq to the Mullahs, vastly enhancing their land mass, their popular base, their oil reserves, their financial resources and their geo-political clout.

As even Tom Friedman of the New York Times, a consistent supporter of the war, has grudgingly pointed out, Bush's insane energy policies have enriched the Iranians to the point that they couldn't care less about American threats. Iran is far larger, better armed and more unified than Iraq. The fantasy that US troops could waltz into Iran as they did to Iraq is purely hallucinogenic. Only the most deluded and arrogant American militarist could believe Iran can be physically conquered.

As with all Bush "victories," things can now only get worse. The US military clearly wants permanent bases in Iraq to guarantee access to its oil. But oil still travels through long pipelines that simply can't be guarded.
In the 1960s and 1970s, in a Vietnam war Team Bush dodged en masse, the US staged election after election, installing one puppet after another. The pitiful charade ended with the last Americans fleeing from the Saigon embassy's rooftop.

In Iraq, this "Mission Accomplished" electoral farce has installed a government allied with the "Axis of Evil" Iranians. America's moral standing in the world has been utterly destroyed.

Meanwhile, Osama bin Laden runs free. Bush lied when he told the world that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and harbored the terrorists who attacked the US on 9/11. But very soon both those delusions may come true.
After Bush proclaimed "Mission Accomplished" last time, thousands more people died and billions more dollars went down the drain. One can only shudder at the ultimate consequences of this latest Bush "victory."

Global Eye/Sword Play

By Chris Floyd

February 18, 2005

'You had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game. The reason was quite simple: to force ... the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security."

This was the essence of Operation Gladio, a decades-long covert campaign of terrorism and deceit directed by the intelligence services of the West -- against their own populations. Hundreds of innocent people were killed or maimed in terrorist attacks -- on train stations, supermarkets, cafes and offices -- which were then blamed on "leftist subversives" or other political opponents. The purpose, as stated above in sworn testimony by Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra, was to demonize designated enemies and frighten the public into supporting ever-increasing powers for government leaders -- and their elitist cronies.

First revealed by Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti in 1991, Gladio (from the Latin for "sword") is still protected to this day by its founding patrons, the CIA and MI6. Yet parliamentary investigations in Italy, Switzerland and Belgium have shaken out a few fragments of the truth over the years. These have been gathered in a new book, "NATO's Secret Armies: Operation Gladio and Terrorism in Western Europe," by Daniele Ganser, as Lila Rajiva reports on CommonDreams.org.

Originally set up as a network of clandestine cells to be activated behind the lines in the event of a Soviet invasion of Western Europe, Gladio quickly expanded into a tool for political repression and manipulation, directed by NATO and Washington. Using right-wing militias, underworld figures, government provocateurs and secret military units, Gladio not only carried out widespread terrorism, assassinations and electoral subversion in democratic states such as Italy, France and West Germany, but also bolstered fascist tyrannies in Spain and Portugal, abetted the military coup in Greece and aided Turkey's repression of the Kurds.

Among the "smoking guns" unearthed by Ganser is a Pentagon document, Field Manual FM 30-31B, which details the methodology for launching terrorist attacks in nations that "do not react with sufficient effectiveness" against "communist subversion." Ironically, the manual states that the most dangerous moment comes when leftist groups "renounce the use of force" and embrace the democratic process. It is then that "U.S. army intelligence must have the means of launching special operations which will convince Host Country Governments and public opinion of the reality of the insurgent danger." Naturally, these peace-throttling "special operations must remain strictly secret," the document warns.

Indeed, it would not do for the families of the 85 people ripped apart by the Aug. 2, 1980 bombing of the Bologna train station to know that their loved ones had been murdered by "men inside Italian state institutions and ... men linked to the structures of United States intelligence," as the Italian Senate concluded after its investigation in 2000.

The Bologna atrocity is an example of what Gladio's masters called "the strategy of tension" -- fomenting fear to keep populations in thrall to "strong leaders" who will protect the nation from the ever-present terrorist threat. And as Rajiva notes, this strategy wasn't limited to Western Europe. It was applied, with gruesome effectiveness, in Central America by the Reagan and Bush administrations. During the 1980s, right-wing death squads, guerrilla armies and state security forces -- armed, trained and supplied by the United States -- murdered tens of thousands of people throughout the region, often acting with particular savagery at those times when peaceful solutions to the conflicts seemed about to take hold.

Last month, it was widely reported that the Pentagon is considering a similar program in Iraq. What was not reported, however -- except in the Iraqi press -- is that at least one pro-occupation death squad is already in operation. Just days after the Pentagon plans were revealed, a new militant group, "Saraya Iraqna," began offering big wads of American cash for insurgent scalps -- up to $50,000, the Iraqi paper Al Ittihad reports. "Our activity will not be selective," the group promised. In other words, anyone they consider an enemy of the state will be fair game.

Strangely enough, just as it appears that the Pentagon is establishing Gladio-style operations in Iraq, there has been a sudden rash of terrorist attacks on outrageously provocative civilian targets, such as hospitals and schools, the Guardian reports. Coming just after national elections in which the majority faction supported slates calling for a speedy end to the American occupation, the shift toward high-profile civilian slaughter has underscored the "urgent need" for U.S. forces to remain on the scene indefinitely, to provide security against the ever-present terrorist threat. Meanwhile, the Bushists continue constructing their long-sought permanent bases in Iraq: citadels to protect the oil that incoming Iraqi officials are promising to sell off to American corporations -- and launching pads for new forays in geopolitical domination.

Perhaps it's just a coincidence. But the U.S. elite's history of directing and fomenting terrorist attacks against friendly populations is so extensive -- indeed, so ingrained and accepted -- that it calls into question the origin of every terrorist act that roils the world. With each fresh atrocity, we're forced to ask: Was it the work of "genuine" terrorists or a "black op" by intelligence agencies -- or both?

While not infallible, the ancient Latin question is still the best guide to penetrating the bloody murk of modern terrorism: Cui bono? Who benefits? Whose powers and policies are enhanced by the attack? For it is indisputable that the "strategy of tension" means power and profit for those who claim to possess the key to "security." And from the halls of the Kremlin to the banks of the Potomac, this cynical strategy is the ruling ideology of our times.

Written off by many after his role in Central America, John Negroponte's revived career hits a new high. John Negroponte's nomination by President Bush yesterday to be his chief of intelligence represents the pinnacle of rehabilitation for a man who, for many people, will always be associated with US involvement in the "dirty wars" in Central America in the 1980s. While Mr. Bush has restored to office other figures from that period of American history, none has been promoted to the same extent as the former ambassador to Honduras, Mexico, the Philippines, the UN and Iraq.

Mystery Deepens Over Hariri Slaying (Feb 19)

(AP) - From traces of explosives supposedly collected off airline seats to the prospect a powerful bomb could have been planted beneath a Beirut street during recent road work, the mystery is deepening over who killed former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and how. The Lebanese government and its Syrian supporters have been under intense domestic and international pressure to apprehend those responsible for the massive explosion that also killed 16 others and wounded more than 100 a week ago. (...) "The bomb was placed underground, especially (since) the crater was so huge," said Hisham Jaber, a retired brigadier general and former professor at the Lebanese Military and Staff Command College. "Even a car with 1,000 kilograms (2,200 pounds) of TNT wouldn't create such a crater." Jaber, who inspected the assassination site but is not part of the investigation, said a suicide attack was the least likely cause of the explosion. He noted the crater was near the middle of the road, indicating the bomb was likely placed under the street and not in a parked car. Suspicion that the bomb was under the street increased Friday when the chief military investigator demanded that police investigate recent road works in the area. (...) Hours after Hariri's assassination, Al-Jazeera satellite television aired a videotaped claim of responsibility claim by a bearded man. Lebanese security forces later announced that they raided the Beirut home of a Palestinian Ahmed Abu Adas, who they said was the man in the video, but found no one. (...) Officials have since downplayed the claim. Shortly after the attack Justice Minister Adnan Addoum said the claim could be an attempt to mislead investigators, and the interior minister later suggested a suicide bomber backed by "international parties" may have been responsible. Dia'a Rashwan, an Egyptian expert on militant groups, ruled out the possibility that the videotape was made by militants since Abu Adas did not use Quranic verses commonly used by those who carry out attacks in Iraq (news - web sites) and Israel. "It is also very hard for a previously unknown group to start its work with such a huge attack," Rashwan told The Associated Press. He said a "state intelligence service" was "probably" to blame. National ID - Gateway To Bio-Chip Implant

By Paul Walter

2-18-05

Last week the House of Representatives passed an unconstitutional piece of legislation which will force all Americans to accept a national ID/driver's license. Those who refuse to accept this card will not be able to fly, take the train and one day you will be unable to travel the roads and streets without "your papers, please!" According to Congressman Ron Paul, "The bill establishes a huge, centrally database of highly personal information about American citizens: at a minimum their name, date of birth, place of residence, social security number and other sensitive data. [Read: National ID Bill Masquerading as Immigration Reform]

The bill even provides for this sensitive information to be shared with Canada and Mexico! Imagine a corrupt Mexican official selling thousands of identify files, including social security numbers to criminals."

Congressman Paul goes on to say, "Supporters claim the national ID scheme is voluntary. However, any state that opts out will automatically make non-persons out of its citizens. The citizens of that state will be unable to have any dealings with the federal government because their ID will not be accepted. They will not be able to fly or to take a train. In essence, in the eyes of the federal government they will cease to exist. It is absurd to call this voluntary, and the proponents of the national ID know that every state will have no choice but to comply."

Of course, this is unconstitutional and not just because the federal government has issued a direct threat to the sovereign states of the Union and their citizens. The driver's license and state identification cards are and always have been the domain of the states under the Tenth Amendment.

Congress is trying to crush the independence of the states and the people should rise up and tell their U.S. Senators that while the House has passed this draconian piece of Nazi-style legislation, that you will refuse to accept these documents. Enormous heat must be put on the Senate to kill this legislation.

Only someone with their head in the sand can't see what's coming. Because these IDs will become like gold on the black market, counterfeiting will become so massive as we have already seen with theft identity, the next logical step is forced biometric implantable chips - into your right wrist. Congress is consistent at creating a mess and then destroying your rights to "fix it." Nothing could be further from the truth as we have seen over and over and over with all these broken government systems.

How can anyone deny this? Being forced to have a bio chip implanted under their skin isn't the Mark of the Beast as foretold in the Bible where you will be unable to do any business, commerce or travel without it? Now is the time to demand the Oregon State Legislature refuse to allow the federal machine to come into our state and force such draconian, Nazi-style intrusions into our lives. Speak up now or in a few years you'll be sporting the Mark of the Beast.

Is our government using the fear and threat of terrorism to enslave us all? You bet they are.

Note: National drivers license is the precursor for the bio-chip implant. You see, if they demand bio chip implant right of[f] the bat, people won't accept it. So, the stage has to be set first. Once the people accept the national drivers license, it will be a cinch to sell the sheep the bio chip implant, guaranteed, all in the name of security. And the 501-c-3 corporate church leadership will help them.

‘REAL ID Act’ is a real threat

Emile Schepers

People's Weekly World Newspaper, 02/17/05

NewsAnalysis

The REAL ID Act, HR 418, is not only a threat to undocumented immigrants and refugees, but also to the U.S. Constitution. Introduced Jan. 26 and rammed through the House of Representatives last week, the bill will now quickly go to the Senate.

The act, whose chief House sponsor was James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), is the follow-up to a promise made to Republicans by House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) last fall, when some anti-immigrant language was removed from the Intelligence Reform Bill in order to assure quick passage. Hastert promised Sensenbrenner and his allies that they could push anti-immigrant legislation as a priority item in the new session.

What does HR 418 mandate?

• It makes it much harder for states to find ways to provide driver’s licenses to immigrants, with or without documents, and stands to worsen existing problems for legal resident immigrants and even some citizens (e.g. Puerto Ricans). The law requires states issuing driver’s licenses to implement new “safeguards” that include the laborious authentication of all documents presented. It turns low-level employees of state departments of motor vehicles into immigration cops, a role for which they are in no way trained. Driver’s licenses of states not complying will not be accepted for federal identification (e.g. to board an airplane). Many immigrants who have to drive to get to work will end up crossing their fingers and driving without licenses or valid insurance.

• It authorizes the suspension, at the sole discretion of the Secretary of Homeland Security, of all laws relating to the U.S. border south of San Diego, Calif., if he deems it necessary to expedite the construction of certain border fences and other barriers. Thus, labor, environmental and other laws could be suspended for however long the DHS says.

• It allows the government to deny admission to immigrants, and deport legal resident immigrants, for association with any group that the government deems violent or terrorist, even if, at the time of the association, the group was not so designated. Any organization that has at one time or another engaged in, or even threatened, armed action, qualifies as terrorist under this act. This is a huge expansion of the USA Patriot Act.

• It creates a nightmare for people seeking political asylum in the United States by giving immigration judges (who are part of the executive branch, not of the judiciary) the authority to deny asylum if they think the applicant, by body language, tone of voice or hesitant manner, does not come across as convincing. Further, asylum seekers must show that they were being persecuted principally for their race, religion or nationality, and must provide proof that this was the persecutor’s motive.

What the bill does not do is make us one whit safer from terrorist attacks. None of the 9/11 terrorists came across the Mexican border or entered under an asylum petition. Among them they had 13 driver’s licenses, which HR 418 would not have prevented.

By reducing even further the power of the courts to intervene in cases of deportation and of denial of requests for asylum, and especially by the incredible idea of suspending all laws (and judicial enforcement of the same) under the pretext of border security, the REAL ID Act strikes a blow against one’s right to his or her day in court. In addition, it undermines separation of powers and the system of checks and balances by removing the function of the judiciary as a check on abuses of power by the other two branches of government.

The bill passed in the House with overwhelming Republican support in a vote of 261-161, over the opposition of the ACLU, National Council of La Raza, National Immigration Forum, American Immigration Lawyers’ Association, Human Rights First, and People for the American Way, among others. Forty-two Democrats voted in favor of the bill. The vote underscores the need to build stronger national coalitions — including organized labor and African American groups — to stop the reactionary attack on the foreign born.

Subject: Action Alert: Call for Special Prosecutor on Torture

Dear Friend:

Last week we added Gonzales to the war crimes suit we filed with the German prosecutor that charges Rumsfeld and other high-ranking officials with responsibility for torture at Abu Ghraib. Despite the thousands of letters many of you sent, the evidence, and the legal merits of the case, Rumsfeld strong-armed the German government into refusing the suit before he would agree to attend an important security conference in Munich.

We knew this would be a long fight: we'll be re-arguing the case in 10 days, submitting additional papers and appealing to a higher court in Germany.

Please take a minute to sign a letter demanding the appointment of a Special Prosecut
