The Empire of Darkness Series #28: Some very, VERY Bad Apples...
Hello everyone!
I really shouldn't be taking that much time - which I hardly have right now! - to compile such a long compilation (75 pages!) for you, but the material in this one is SO EXPLOSIVE, and makes such a compelling case against the ignominious crimes perpetrated non-stop by the mad American Evil Empire that I just could not sit on all this information that came to my attention in the last few days and hours and not pass it on to you - hoping of course you'll do likewise.
The most damning evidence of yet another crime against humanity perpetrated by the US Army of Mass Destruction featured below is the proof of what was reported in several compilations a year ago when the mad warriors were indiscriminately dousing innocent children, elderly people, men and women with lethal chemical weapons during their all-out assault against the city of Fallujah in Iraq.
This is hard stuff to read and to see if you go check the picture and video, but it is good that such dark deeds are now finally exposed - hardly in the US media yet though! - so as to pump up enough steam into the public opinion's disturbing apathy towards such continuing horrors in the hope it will pop the cork and purge the world from the mass-slaughtering and mass-torturing neocons and their now immensely unpopular and planet-wide reviled Bush puppet and his dartvaderesque "handler" Dick Cheney.
In the meantime, let's continue to hold high the Light of Love and shine globally this vibration of unconditional Love towards all beings, even those directly involved with such crimes, so as to touch everyone's heart with the redeeming knowledge that all can be healed, in time, as long as the choice to go towards the Light is made and harmlessness and compassion are nurtured within one's soul.
Let us make sure the sacrifice of all these beings who suffered such utter pain was not in vain and that true justice and peace prevail.

"You know I was told to receive your emails, I didn't know what the emails would contain but boy am I so overwhelmed with joy and gladness, (to say the least). I read each one and they all inspire me and keep me up to date with the truth of what is occurring on our precious planet, for that I am very grateful. I don't read the newspapers and rarely watch the news due to limited perceptions. You do a wonderful deed for humanity for linking us all together through broadcasting the information. If I didn't have the Internet connected I would just to receive your emails. The emails do take a while to read but very worthwhile. SO THANK YOU FROM MY HEART AND INTELLECT FOR BEING THE BEAUTIFUL PERSON THAT YOU ARE, TO DEVOTE SO MUCH OF YOUR TIME AND ENERGIES FOR DOING SUCH A GREAT SERVICE TO HUMANITY. GOOD WILL IN ACTION. I will be joining you in meditation this Sunday/Monday morning, from Melbourne Australia. Love and many blessings to you."

"Americans still seem blissfully unaware of the fundamental changes to the political system. The cloak of disinformation and diversion has successfully obscured the perils of our present course. Freedom is no longer guaranteed in Bushs America nor is liberty everymans birthright. The rickety scaffolding that supports the rule of law has been replaced by the unbridled authority of the supreme presidency. The country is slipping inexorably towards the Orwellian nightmare; the National Security State."

US Treasury Missing $ Trillions
http://www.whereisthemoney.org/
Trillions of dollars in "unsupported adjustments" means trillions of dollars unaccounted for. What's going on? Where is the money? How could this happen? Where are the checks and balances? How much more has gone missing? Is this happening in the other government agencies too? What would happen if a corporation failed to pass an audit like this? Or a taxpayer? Who is responsible for this? Who can we trust to fix it? CLIP

Groups Denounce Stealth Senate Amendment on Detainees
http://www.ccr-ny.org/v2/reports/report.asp?ObjID=tNs7RqrFSC&Content=660
As Senator Graham planned to introduce an amendment today to the military appropriations bill that would strip U.S. courts of any jurisdiction over detainees at Guantánamo and other U.S. facilities around the world, the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and allies spoke out against this attack on the rule of law, the fundamental principle of habeas corpus and the separation of powers. (...) It is no secret that arbitrary indefinite detention and widespread prisoner mistreatment have taken and continue to take place at Guantánamo and other U.S.-run facilities. It is precisely this unchecked Executive tyranny that the historic writ of habeas corpus was designed to prevent. (...) Senator Graham's jurisdiction-stripping efforts come as allegations of secret CIA detention facilities around the world dominate headlines; the day after the Senate defeated an amendment that would have created an independent commission to investigate torture at U.S. facilities, further evading oversight and accountability; and two days after the Administration charged five more detainees at Guantánamo to go before the very military commission that the Supreme Court announced it would review for constitutionality that morning. The Graham Amendment will only serve to reinforce the growing perception that the United States has become an enemy of human rights. The documented fact that in many cases the "evidence" against these men has been procured by torture and other inhumane methods only worsens the situation. The political and social impact of such a broadcast aired by a Canadian provincial government television channel as presented by a former Canadian Cabinet Minister will no doubt be examined with great interest and be measured carefully today and in the future by journalists, politicians and members of the public. (...) As quoted on the Maclean's Magazine website, Hellyer stated, "I believe that UFOs are real. I'll talk about that a little bit and a bit about the fantastic cover-up of the United States government and also a little bit of the fallout from the wreckage, by that I mean the material discoveries we have made and how they've been applied to our technology." GAO report upholds Ohio vote fraud claims
http://www.rockrivertimes.com/index.pl?cmd=viewstory&cat=2&id=11529
As if the indictment of Lewis Scooter Libby wasnt enough to give the White House some heavy concerns, a report from the Government Accounting Office takes a big bite out of the Bush cliques pretense of legitimacy. This powerful and probing report takes a hard look at the election of 2004 and supports the contention that the election was stolen. The report has received almost no coverage in the national media. The GAO is the governments lead investigative agency, and is known for rock-solid integrity and its penetrating and thorough analysis. The agencys agreement with what have been brushed aside as conspiracy theories adds even more weight to the conclusion that the Bush regime has no business in the White House whatever. Almost a year ago, Rep. John Conyers, senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, asked the GAO to investigate the use of electronic voting machines in the Nov. 2, 2004, presidential election. That request was made as a flood of protests from Ohio and elsewhere deluged Washington with claims that shocking irregularities were common in that vote and were linked to the machines. CLIP

Musharraf slams quake aid response (04 November 2005)
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/C4A208D6-B455-4B70-B79E-151B6BB73624.htm
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has criticised the international community for failing to provide sufficient aid to survivors of last month's devastating earthquake. - The Pakistani leader said the world had given less money than it had for survivors of last December's tsunami because no Westerners had been involved. "With the tsunami, I think if one compared realistically the damage there is much more, the magnitude of the calamity is much more," military ruler Musharraf told the BBC in an interview broadcast on Friday. "But there it was spread to many countries, it affected many people from many countries of the world, especially the West who were tourists," he said. The army chief of staff and president also said he was postponing the controversial purchase of 25 F-16s from the US at a cost of $25 million each in order to divert funds to survivors of the earthquake. (...) The United Nations says it needs $550 million in emergency aid for earthquake victims but donor nations have pledged only $131 million. Pakistani Finance Ministry official Ashfaq Hassan Khan said the world has pledged $1.93 billion in aid over the long term, but the country has said it needs $5 billion. By comparison, donors pledged $13.5 billion for victims of the December tsunami that killed more than 200,000 people. More than 73,000 people died in the 8 October earthquake, which measured 7.6 on the Richter scale. Almost the same number were injured and more than three million were made homeless. (...) The British charity Oxfam said squalid conditions in camps could kill thousands more people, far exceeding the toll in remote villages that have been the focus of aid efforts so far. Oxfam said the risk of disease was growing in crowded camps that have sprung up in devastated cities, while the sheer numbers of people living there meant that any outbreak would be disastrous. "The focus on what's happening in the most remote communities in earthquake-hit Kashmir is overshadowing the thousands more lives that are in danger in the increasing number of camps," the charity said in a statement. "Unless conditions are improved in these camps, diseases like cholera could spread like wildfire," the statement said. CLIP
The Kashmir earthquake: Failures on the road to disaster (10 November 2005)
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/asia/article326039.ece
Refugees from far-flung mountain villages are on the move in search of shelter before the first snowfalls. The relief effort for the homeless is desperately underfunded and disease has struck the camps. (...) The charity World Vision says that aid still has not reached 250,000 earthquake survivors in Pakistan. (...) As relief organisations struggle to get help to the needy, foreign governments have failed to match their pledges with hard cash for the earthquake victims.Pakistan's government says it has received just $9.5m (£5.4) out of $2bn pledged by foreign donors for earthquake relief. The United Nations says it has received only $133m towards its appeal for $550m, despite total offers of more than $1.3bn. The organisation needs $42m to maintain the Pakistan relief effort at current levels and stop the situation deteriorating before winter sets in.The UN stresses that reconstruction is a long way off. "We are still in the emergency life-saving phase, still trying to reach people in inaccessible areas, still trying to establish relief camps and get supplies of food and medicine through before roads are cut off by snow. This is unprecedented. In similar disasters this life-saving phase is normally over within a couple of weeks,'' said a spokeswomen. The speed and size of the response of outside countries appears small compared with the response to the 26 December tsunami. A month after that, the UN appeal was 80 per cent complete; the Pakistan appeal is only 24 per cent complete a month after the quake.Oxfam has calculated the amount of money contributed by the main donor countries as a percentage of their economies, arriving at a "fair share" figure.By this measure, Sweden, with 170 per cent of its fair share, tops the table. Britain is 12th at 24 per cent and the US 16th at 6.9 per cent. However, the US tops the list of individual donors. Spain, Portugal, Greece, Finland and Austria have contributed nothing. The UNsays the reasons for the slow reaction appear to be a combination of factors. In many countries, it is the end of the budget year. It has also been a year of natural disasters, and aid for the tsunami, famine in Africa and Hurricane Katrina has taken its toll on the ability of some nations to help. CLIP

Darfur 'sliding into anarchy' (Nov 5)
http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=2196872005
SUDAN'S troubled western region of Darfur has deteriorated back into a state of anarchy and bloodshed, hampering humanitarian work, according to senior United Nations officials. Thousands of people have arrived at the region's sprawling aid camps after rebels and government-backed Janjaweed militia stepped up attacks during the past six weeks. And the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) is warning that November's harvest will be disrupted if the violence continues. Jan Pronk, the UN's special representative to Sudan, speaking in Khartoum, said: "We have had a relative calm in Darfur since April, but in the past six weeks things have deteriorated." He explained that rebel commanders and their Janjaweed counterparts had lost control of their troops. At the same time, a split within the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA), the main rebel movement, had seen rival commanders step up military action in order to win influence. (...) Some 5,000 people have trekked here in the past six weeks and a further 1,900 have arrived at neighbouring Abu Shouk. Zam Zam is now almost full. New arrivals must mark out a small patch of ground with stones as they wait for help building a shelter. (...) It is two and a half years since the farming tribes in the western region of Darfur took up arms against the Arab government in Khartoum, which they accused of ignoring their needs. The Sudanese government responded by unleashing nomadic Arab militias - the dreaded Janjaweed - on the rebels. The militias, often backed by government Antonov aircraft, razed villages they suspected of harbouring rebels. Conservative estimates suggest that two million people have fled their homes for camps, where international charities offer a measure of security. A further 180,000 people have been killed. All sides have stepped up the violence in the latest escalation, which coincided with the resumption of peace talks in the Nigerian capital Abuja last month. In West Darfur, aid workers are confined to the capital, as the United Nations has declared all roads out of bounds due to banditry. African Union troops sent in to observe a much-ignored ceasefire are finding themselves increasingly targeted; five Nigerian soldiers and two civilian contractors were killed last month. The WFP says that each day a food truck is looted, fired upon or harassed. And last week tensions in Darfur's largest camp, Kalma, boiled over. Residents frustrated by a government blockade of the site and the arrest of a tribal leader took 35 Sudanese contractors and a handful of aid workers hostage, later releasing them unharmed. One charity worker summed up feelings among the aid community: "We are getting it from all sides." Where once the rebels were seen as co-operative, he added, now they are as likely to cause problems as government forces. "There has been a total breakdown of law and order, and people are taking advantage." November is harvest time, but with many farmers trapped in camps, much of this year's crop could go to waste. US Forces 'Used Chemical Weapons' on City of Fallujah
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/110805Z.shtml
Powerful new evidence emerged yesterday that the United States dropped massive quantities of white phosphorus on the Iraqi city of Fallujah during the attack in November of 2004. The attack killed insurgents and civilians with appalling burns that are the signature of this weapon. A video documentary entitled "Fallujah: the Hidden Massacre," provides what it claims is clinching evidence that incendiary bombs known as Mark 77 - a new, improved form of napalm - were used in the attack on Fallujah. This action is in breach of the UN Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons of 1980, which only allows such use against military targets. MUCH MORE ON THIS IN ANOTHER ARTICLE THIS BELOW!

White House keeps dossiers on more than 10,000 'political enemies' (Nov 8, 2005)
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_7625.shtml
Spurred by paranoia and aided by the USA Patriot Act, the Bush Administration has compiled dossiers on more than 10,000 Americans it considers political enemies and uses those files to wage war on those who disagree with its policies. The enemies list dates back to Bushs days as governor of Texas and can be accessed by senior administration officials in an instant for use in campaigns to discredit those who speak out against administration policies or acts of the President. The computerized files include intimate personal details on members of Congress; high-ranking local, state and federal officials; prominent media figures and ordinary citizens who may, at one time or another, have spoken out against the President or Administration. Capitol Hill Blue has spoken with a number of current and former administration officials who acknowledge existence of the enemies list only under a guarantee of confidentiality. Those who have seen the list say it is far more extensive than Richard Nixons famous enemies list of Watergate fame or Bill Clintons dossiers on political enemies. How is that you think Karl (Rove) and Scooter (Libby) were able to disseminate so much information on Joe Wilson and his wife, says one White House aide. They didnt have that information by accident. They had it because they have files on those who might hurt them. White House insiders tell disturbing tales of invasion of privacy, abuse of government power and use of expanded authority under the USA Patriot Act to dig into the personal lives of anyone the administration deems an enemy of the state. BLACK GOLD HOT GOLD The Rise of Fascism in the American Energy Business
http://www.brojon.org/frontpage/bj050701-1.html
What is often called the German or Italian form of Fascism had its roots in America. Both Hitler and Mussolini were funded and brought into power in the 1920's and '30s by international bankers, including the 12 banks which now make up the American Federal Reserve System. But I get ahead of myself. (...) Fascism grew out of the attempt of the Big 3 oil companies to form a world cartel to control the world's supply of petroleum and eliminate any other competitors which they branded as "communists." Thus at the end of WWI, after the Treaty of Versailles, and the take over of the large oil fields in southern Russia by the socialists, came the creation of both "communism" and "fascism." Both were constructs, inventions and ploys of the Big 3: Standard Oil, British Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell. It was a deception which would lead to world empire. In the 1920's and '30s the Big 3 decided on a plan to eliminate Russian control of oil by "hiring" the small "fascist" movements in Germany and Japan to attack and take over Russia and thus eliminate any state control of oil fields. Most historians would blame large international bankers for funding the rise of fascism. But the bankers had no motivation and fringe fascists parties in Germany, Italy and Japan did not look like good financial risks. But for the Big 3 Oil companies there was a strong motivation to use the "fascists" to defeat the "communists" in Russia and take over the world oil market. And the vast oil wealth which they stored in their international banks provided them with the means. In the 1920's the opportunity was ripe. Thus the small fascist political parties in Germany, Japan and Italy were given massive Big 3 financial backing to help those minor political parties come to power and build up their military. But things did not go quite as they had planned. The aging John D. had died and his son and four grandsons had decided they would carve up the world along different lines, and at the same time eliminate their competitors, the British and Dutch oil companies. U.S.-Syrian tension cutting through ties (11/08/2005)
http://www.sltrib.com/nationworld/ci_3193485
WASHINGTON - The United States has cut off nearly all contact with the Syrian government as the Bush administration steps up a campaign to weaken and isolate President Bashar al-Assad's regime, according to U.S. and Syrian officials. The United States has halted high-level diplomatic meetings, limited military coordination on Syria's border with Iraq, and ended dialogue with Syria's Finance Ministry on amending its banking laws to block terrorist financing. In recent months, as distrust between the two countries widened, the United States also declined a proposal from Syria to revive intelligence cooperation with Syria, according to Syria's ambassador to the United States, Imad Moustapha, and a U.S. official. The new era of hostility flows from American frustration at what it considers Syria's failure to effectively control its border with Iraq and continued support for radical Palestinian groups that threaten the chances of peace in Israel. The U.S.-Syrian confrontation has sharpened just as Syria is also facing pressure from many Arab and European governments - as well as the United States - over Syria's suspected role in the assassination of the former prime minister of Lebanon, Rafik Hariri. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Oct. 31 that "the Syrian government needs to make a strategic decision to fundamentally change its behavior'' or risk becoming an international pariah. Some U.S. officials say privately that there is now an active debate about whether regime change should be a U.S. goal. Publicly, administration officials say that they want to see a change in behavior. But Syrian officials say they have made progress on many U.S. demands, including stepping up patrols along the Iraqi border, and that it is the United States that has broken promises to cooperate. Syrians say that powerful neoconservative policy makers in Washington have long hoped to topple their regime in a bid to transform the Middle East. 'What we see in general is an administration that is categorically refusing to engage with Syria on any level,'' Moustapha said. "We see an administration that would really love to see another crisis in the Middle East, this time targeting Syria. . . . Even before the Iraq war started, they had this grand vision for the Middle East.''

It was Shimon Peres, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who gained him world-wide acceptance as a respectable statesman. After the half-comic intermezzo of leaving the government for election purposes, Peres delivered his party again to the second Sharon government, where it became the main supporter of the "disengagement". He did not put up any conditions: neither that the withdrawal should be carried out in agreement with the Palestinians, nor that the territory should really be liberated, nor that the withdrawal should lead to negotiations for the withdrawal from the West Bank. We see the result now: the Gaza Strip has turned into a big prison, the occupation there continues by other means (isolation from the West Bank and the entire world), living conditions there have become even worse (who thought that this was possible?) The result: the bloodshed goes on, and will probably get more terrible. We see and read every day how the Labor Party enables Sharon to carry out his design - to annex to Israel 58% of the West Bank, turning the rest into enclaves cut off from each other, and the building of the Separation Wall, which was a brainchild of the Labor Party to start with, and which annexes great swathes of the West Bank to Israel. The roadblocks. The enlargement of the settlements at a frantic pace. The dismantling of the "outposts" is not even up for discussion. The assassinations and arrests continue even after the Palestinians have declared a cease-fire, which Sharon refused to join. There is no peace negotiation, and the Minister of Defense has asserted that peace must wait "for the next generation". Without any political achievements at all, the position of Mahmoud Abbas is undermined, creating again the desired situation where "there is nobody to talk with". On the social level, the government, with the support of the Labor Party, is widening the income gap and deepening poverty. Regarding this Thatcherite policy, there is no real difference between Sharon, Netanyahu and Peres, empty slogans notwithstanding. No wonder that in this situation, the party itself is degenerating. People are fed up not only with Peres, but with the whole bunch of politicians that surround him - indeed with the entire democratic system. There is no life in the party, no debate, no activity at all. CLIP
Petition: Stop the Sonic Booms (2 November 2005)
Today Physicians for Human Rights-Israel and the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme filed a joint petition against the Israeli Minister of Defense to the Israeli High Court, and are demanding that the Israeli Air Force cease the use of sonic booms over civilian populations. In the past few weeks the Israeli Air Force (IAF) has conducted flights over the Gaza Strip purposely creating sonic booms. These extremely loud booms have caused both physical and mental harm to the population as well as damage to property. Dr Eyad al Sarraj, a psychiatrist and director of GCMHP, filed a professional medical opinion to the court in which he details the affects of the sonic booms on the civilian population in Gaza. For example, he explained the negative psychological consequences of the booms, especially on the children: anxiety, panic, fear, poor concentration, low academic success, feelings of vulnerability, alertness, withdrawal, stuttering, ticks, regressive behaviour and even somatic problems. He also noted that during the days of repeated intense booms the number of abortions increased. It should be noted that many of the booms occur during the hours in the morning when the children are going to school. The IAf no longer flies at speeds exceeding the speed of sound over Israeli civilians areas due to the great stress the booms caused to the population. (...) Due to the extreme violations of human rights, specifically the right to health, and the fact that the booms constitute collective punishment, the petitioners demand that the Israeli Air Force immediately end flying planes above the speed of sound, and thus creating frightening sonic booms, over civilian populations.

Melting Mountains (November 5, 2005)
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines05/1105-03.htm
How Climate Change is Destroying the World's Most Spectacular Landscapes (...) All the most famous ski resorts in Europe are situated in valleys overlooked by mountains held together by permafrost. The high altitude permafrost zones lie on steep slopes above these settlements, roads, railways and valleys. Massive slope failures and landslides leading to blocked rivers, dammed lakes and catastrophic flooding will be especially pronounced in the Alps, which has such steep topography and high population levels.Already climatologists have predicted the complete failure of the Scottish ski industry due to lack of snow within 20 years and the Alpine ski industry within 50 years. Many Alpine ski resorts would already be out of business but for the snow machines.Because the best Alpine ski fields and lift systems are above the crucial permafrost altitude of 8,202 feet, it could spell the end of the ski industry as we know it, let alone the more esoteric world of mountaineering. When you consider that one sixth of Austria's gross domestic product comes from Alpine tourism, the effects of permafrost meltdown could be far more wide-ranging than just screwing up our winter sports holidays. Climatologists, geologists and civil engineers from all over the world are making disturbingly similar reports. Glaciers in Antarctica are thinning twice as fast as they were a decade ago and this may destabilise the west Antarctic ice sheet, which, if melted, contains enough ice to raise sea levels by as much as five metres. A gigantic slab, the Larsen B ice shelf, has already fallen off its eastern side.Ablation rates of glaciers are speeding up all over the world. Retreating glaciers in the Peruvian Andes are adding huge amounts of melt water to already overburdened mountain lakes, greatly increasing the risk of dam collapses and alluvion avalanches. There are passes in the Cordillera Real in Bolivia that just 20 years ago were glaciated, yet now are rocky moraine fields. Only two weeks ago it was announced that Kilimanjaro in Tanzania would lose its year-round mantle of snow within 10 years. One-third of Kilimanjaro's ice field has disappeared in the past 12 years. In Iceland ice cores have shown that temperatures are at their highest since the arrival of the Vikings. The past two years have been the hottest since records began in 1822. At this rate of melting, all the ice will be gone in 200 years. In the Arctic, a region of sea ice the size of France and Germany has melted away in the past 30 years and there are fears that the inflow of fresh water could possibly lead to the shutdown of the Gulf Stream, which bathes Europe in warm water. This would plunge Britain into winters that would be the equivalent of those in northern Canada. It wouldn't save the ski industry, not unless you like skiing in conditions of 40C below. CLIP

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico A bleaching phenomenon caused by unusually warm waters is whitening coral reefs throughout the Caribbean, raising fears of a large-scale die-off of the organisms, scientists said Wednesday. The warmer atmosphere has been slowly raising ocean temperatures, threatening sea coral that can only live within a narrow temperature margin, according to scientists. A slight increase in sea surface temperature can induce coral bleaching, killing the coral.Recent data gathered by the University of Puerto Rico shows that up to 95 percent of coral colonies off the island have been bleached in some areas. Species are Dying Out Faster Than We Have Dared Recognize, Scientists Will Warn This Week
(...) The science magazine Nature predicted last year that up to 37 per cent of terrestrial species could become extinct by 2050. And the Defra report presents more problems than solutions. Tackling these crises will be far more complicated than just building more nature reserves - a problem that Jim Knight, the nature conservation minister, acknowledges. A key issue in sub-Saharan Africa, for instance, is profound poverty. After visiting the Democratic Republic of the Congo last month, Mr Knight found it difficult to condemn local people eating gorillas, already endangered. "You can't blame an individual who doesn't know how they're going to feed their family every day from harvesting what's around them. That's a real challenge," he said. (...) Many environmentalists are pessimistic about the prospects of halting, let alone reversing, this trend. "Are we fighting a losing battle? Yes, we probably are," one naturalist told the IoS last month. The UK, which is attempting to put climate change at the top of the global agenda during its presidency of the G8 group of industrialised nations, is still struggling to persuade the American, Japanese and Australian governments to admit that mankind's gas emissions are the biggest threat. These three continue to insist there is no proof that climate change is largely manmade. CLIP

Catalogues, tissues not worth destroying ancient Canadian forests: protesters (Nov 3)
http://www.brandonsun.com/story.php?story_id=9093
TORONTO (CP) - Sexy lingerie catalogues and extra-soft tissues aren't worth destroying Canada's ancient forests, environmental advocates said Thursday as they staged rallies in cities across North America on behalf of the continent's boreal forest. Events were organized in Edmonton, Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Las Vegas, Chicago and more than 100 other cities to protest what critics call the destruction of the boreal, which they say is also displacing wildlife like caribou. In Toronto, protesters wore horns to represent the endangered caribou and in Vancouver, organizers planned a mock clearcut in a public square. Corporations like Victoria's Secret and Kimberly-Clark - which makes Kleenex-brand tissues and toilet paper - are making their products and catalogues with trees from endangered forests, protesters said. "These guys are irresponsibly consuming paper and forest products and that's just not acceptable, to destroy the boreal for throw-away things like catalogues, junk mail and tissue products," said Lafcadio Cortesi of the San Francisco-based group ForestEthics. North America's boreal forest stretches from Alaska to the Atlantic Ocean, sweeping every province except Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. It is among the three most expansive forests in the world, accounting for 25 per cent of the planet's remaining intact, roadless forests. ForestEthics said Victoria's Secret mails out more than one million catalogues every day - about 395 million a year - and the paper is largely coming from the boreal. "What a waste of our heritage," said prominent lawyer Clayton Ruby, who's also an environmental activist. CLIP

US forces used chemical weapons during assault on city of Fallujah
November 9th, 2005
By Peter Popham
Powerful new evidence emerged yesterday that the United States dropped massive quantities of white phosphorus on the Iraqi city of Fallujah during the attack on the city in November 2004, killing insurgents and civilians with the appalling burns that are the signature of this weapon.
Ever since the assault, which went unreported by any Western journalists, rumours have swirled that the Americans used chemical weapons on the city.
On 10 November last year, the Islam Online website wrote: "US troops are reportedly using chemical weapons and poisonous gas in its large-scale offensive on the Iraqi resistance bastion of Fallujah, a grim reminder of Saddam Husseins alleged gassing of the Kurds in 1988."
The website quoted insurgent sources as saying: "The US occupation troops are gassing resistance fighters and confronting them with internationally banned chemical weapons."
In December the US government formally denied the reports, describing them as "widespread myths". "Some news accounts have claimed that US forces have used outlawed phosphorus shells in Fallujah," the USinfo website said. "Phosphorus shells are not outlawed. US forces have used them very sparingly in Fallujah, for illumination purposes.
"They were fired into the air to illuminate enemy positions at night, not at enemy fighters."
But now new information has surfaced, including hideous photographs and videos and interviews with American soldiers who took part in the Fallujah attack, which provides graphic proof that phosphorus shells were widely deployed in the city as a weapon.
In a documentary to be broadcast by RAI, the Italian state broadcaster, this morning, a former American soldier who fought at Fallujah says: "I heard the order to pay attention because they were going to use white phosphorus on Fallujah. In military jargon its known as Willy Pete.
"Phosphorus burns bodies, in fact it melts the flesh all the way down to the bone ... I saw the burned bodies of women and children. Phosphorus explodes and forms a cloud. Anyone within a radius of 150 metres is done for."
Photographs on the website of RaiTG24, the broadcasters 24-hours news channel, http://www.rainews24.it, show exactly what the former soldier means. Provided by the Studies Centre of Human Rights in Fallujah, dozens of high-quality, colour close-ups show bodies of Fallujah residents, some still in their beds, whose clothes remain largely intact but whose skin has been dissolved or caramelised or turned the consistency of leather by the shells.
A biologist in Fallujah, Mohamad Tareq, interviewed for the film, says: "A rain of fire fell on the city, the people struck by this multi-coloured substance started to burn, we found people dead with strange wounds, the bodies burned but the clothes intact."
The documentary, entitled Fallujah: the Hidden Massacre, also provides what it claims is clinching evidence that incendiary bombs known as Mark 77, a new, improved form of napalm, was used in the attack on Fallujah, in breach of the UN Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons of 1980, which only allows its use against military targets.
Meanwhile, five US soldiers from the elite 75th Ranger Regiment have been charged with kicking and punching detainees in Iraq.
The news came as a suicide car bomber killed four American soldiers at a checkpoint south of Baghdad yesterday.

Italian Satellite TV to Broadcast Evidence of US Use of Chemical Weapons on Civilians
http://bellaciao.org/en/article.php3?id_article=9100
(...) The evidence in 'Fallujah - the hidden massacre' claims to show the US forces did not use phosphorous in the legitimate way - to highlight enemy positions - but dropped the substance indiscriminately on the city, and on a massive scale. The documentary also shows the terrible damage wrought by the US bombardment of Fallujah, and the carnage to civilians, some of whom lay sleeping. Equally disturbingly, a document in the report claims to prove that the U.S. forces have used the MK77 form of Napalm - the chemical used with devastating effect on civilians during the Vietnam war - on civilians in Iraq. "I had gathered testimonials on the use of phosphorous and Napalm in Iraq from several refugees from Fallujah, and wanted to tell the world about it, but my kidnappers would not allow me to," said Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena, held hostage in Iraq earlier this year, during the documentary. The use of white phosophorous and Napalm is prohibited by UN conventions. The media are minimising US and British war crimes in Iraq (Nov 8)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1636605,00.html
The reporting of the Iraqi death toll - both in its scale and account of who is doing the killing - is profoundly dishonest (...) Iraq Body Count, whose tally has reached 26,000-30,000, measures only civilian deaths which can be unambiguously attributed to the invasion and which have been reported by two independent news agencies. As the compilers point out, "it is likely that many if not most civilian casualties will go unreported by the media ... our own total is certain to be an underestimate of the true position, because of gaps in reporting or recording". Of the seven mortality reports surveyed by the Overseas Development Institute, the estimate in the Lancet's paper was only the third highest. It remains the most thorough study published so far. Extraordinary as its numbers seem, they are the most likely to be true. And what of the idea that most of the violent deaths in Iraq are caused by coalition troops? Well according to the Houston Chronicle, even Blair's favourite data source, the Iraqi health ministry, reports that twice as many Iraqis - and most of them civilians - are being killed by US and UK forces as by insurgents. When the Pentagon claims that it has just killed 50 or 70 or 100 rebel fighters, we have no means of knowing who those people really were. Everyone it blows to pieces becomes a terrorist. In July Jack Keane, the former vice chief of staff of the US army, claimed that coalition troops had killed or captured more than 50,000 "insurgents" since the start of the rebellion. Perhaps they were all Zarqawi's closest lieutenants. We can expect the US and UK governments to seek to minimise the extent of their war crimes. But it's time the media stopped collaborating.
US Criticized for Use of Phosphorus in Fallujah Raids - The Independent UK (9 Nov 2005)
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/110905S.shtml
A leading campaign group has demanded an urgent inquiry into a report that US troops indiscriminately used a controversial incendiary weapon during the battle for Fallujah. Photographic evidence gathered from the aftermath of the battle suggests that women and children were killed by horrific burns caused by the white phosphorus shells dropped by US forces. (...) Last night Robert Musil, director of the group Physicians for Social Responsibility, called for an investigation. He told The Independent: "When there is clear testimony that use of such weapons has done this, it demands a full investigation. From Vietnam onwards there has been a general condemnation of [the use of white phosphorus] and concern about the injuries and consequences." The 1980 UN Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons bans the use of weapons such as napalm and white phosphorus against civilian - but not military - targets. The US did not sign the treaty and has continued to use white phosphorus and an updated version of napalm, called Mark 77 firebombs, which use kerosene rather than petrol. A senior US commander previously has confirmed that 510lb napalm bombs had been used in Iraq and said that, "the generals love napalm. It has a big psychological effect." John Pike, director of the Washington-based military studies group GlobalSecurity.Org, said the smoke caused by the bombs could confuse or blind the enemy or mark a target. "If it hits your clothes it will burn your clothes and if it hits your skin it will just keep on burning," he said. Experts said that, if not removed, white phosphorus - known as Willy Pete - can burn to the bone. The fumes from phosphorus cause severe eye irritation.

Fallujah: Where is the Outrage. The Story the Mainstream Media won't tell you
by William Bowles
November 8, 2005
Fallujah White Phosphorus victim
A rain of fire fell on the city, the people struck by this multi-coloured substance started to burn, we found people dead with strange wounds, the bodies burned but the clothes intact Mohamad Tareq, a Fallujah resident.
See the harrowing picture at http://www.williambowles.info/iraq/images/fallujah_phosph.jpg
Although reported by a handful media outlets at the time, the mainstream media took the official US denials at face value that there had been no use of the illegal white phosphorus weapons on the inhabitants of Fallujah in December 2004. However the newly released movie (35 mb)from Italys RAI News 24 television programme blows the lie out of the water. Will we now see the mainstream media report the horrific crimes committed on the inhabitants of Fallujah?
Dont hold your breath, so far, I have come across only two mainstream media stories in the UK on the subject, one by the Independents Peter Popham, US forces 'used chemical weapons' during assault on city of Fallujah (8/11/05).
A search of the BBCs Website revealed one article, essentially a defence of the US denial. As of writing it is titled US 'uses incendiary arms' in Iraq, though as you will see below, this might change. The article reiterates the US position that it only used phosphorus for illumination purposes, one clearly refuted by eyewitness accounts (the original story was headlined US uses chemical weapons in Iraq). The BBC story tells us
Rai says this amounts to the illegal use of chemical arms, though the bombs are considered incendiary devices.
For an illuminating exposé of the Machiavellian workings of the BBCs alleged news coverage, I recommend reading Gabriele Zamparinis documentation of his exchange of emails with the BBC to be found at BBC NEWS: "White Phosphorous is not a chemical weapon" BUT THEY ARE WONG!!! where Zamparini reveals the twists and turns the BBC went through in reporting the RAI documentary which in one version says The Rai report may have at its heart an important truth, but it is factually inaccurate and misleading, a charge it has now dropped from what seems to be the third or possibly even the fourth rewriting of the story!
Not surprisingly there exists an astounding double standard at work in the Western media on the war crimes being committed by the US and the UK occupation forces in Iraq. Where, for example is Blairs human rights representative in Iraq, Kate Houey MP, who has been at the forefront of campaigning about Saddams human rights abuses? The silence is deafening.
White phosphorus, outlawed in 1980 and called Willy Pete by US occupation forces in Iraq, literally melts the skin off people, leaving the clothes intact. A US soldier, Jeff Englehart, interviewed in the RAI documentary tells us
[I]t melts the flesh all the way down to the bone ... I saw the burned bodies of women and children. Phosphorus explodes and forms a cloud. Anyone within a radius of 150 metres is done for."
Over 27,000 buildings were destroyed by the US assault on Fallujah. Anyone, man, woman or child, caught on the streets of the city was a target for US troops. There is no official count of the death toll, the media were stopped from entering the city following its destruction, except that is, for the embedded ones.
Zamparinis exchange with the BBC reveals just how sensitive the state-run media outlet is to criticism of its coverage of events in Iraq, eventually crying off further exchanges with Zamparini, telling him that
I will not be responding to every email commenting on a minute detail of our coverage.
Yours faithfully,
Tarik Kafala
Minute detail? Like accusing the RAI documentary of being factually inaccurate and misleading and changing the title from chemical weapons to incendiary arms? As Zamparini points out, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) says that any chemical that is used against humans or animals that causes harm... [is] considered chemical weapons... [and] prohibited behavior, a charge that the BBC has as yet not responded to, no doubt because it considers such a charge to be a mere detail, although tellingly, it has at least dropped the accusation from the latest Kremlinised version.
I suggest you bombard the BBC Website with letters concerning the craven submission to the official line by the BBC on the war crimes being committed by the US and the UK in Iraq, they really cant be allowed to get away with such outrageous coverage.

Why are they not in front of their cameras calling Bush a butcher?

VHeadline.com commentarist Mary MacElveen writes: I first want to thank Mark Parent and LiveJournal.com for bringing this video feed to the attention of many ( English Version from Italian TV - http://www.rainews24.rai.it/ran24/inchiesta/video/fallujah_ING.wmv ) US Chemical Weapons Attack on Iraqi Civilians.
But before you watch this video which is 27 minutes in length, I want to strongly caution you that what you are about to see is so horrific and if you have children, under no circumstances are they to view this feed.
While I have seen graphic photos of the Bush War in Iraq, I have never seen such a horrendous feed like this one. Feeds such as this one are not being seen by the American people and they should be.
America deserves to know the truth!
In a recent VHeadline.com article: Bush brought death and destruction to Iraq
images speak for themselves. I called the readers attention to a grainy video feed showing a bombed out Fallujah. This one is far more devastating than that!
When President Hugo Chavez states that our government is imperialist in nature
or where he calls Bush Mr. Danger
I feel, after viewing this feed, that he is using the wrong adjectives. If he were to view it, he would be using much stronger terms to describe what our US government did to an innocent people. As I watched it, I was horrified, sickened beyond belief and I cried a multitude of tears.
In When can citizens of the United States stop hanging their heads in shame for Bush?, I asked pointed questions of our elected American officials:
Do you finally get it now?
Is this the best leadership we can present to the world?
Are you in the least embarrassed and abhorred by these video feeds?
The set of questions I would ask now are:
Why do you continue to support Bush?
Is this leadership or war crimes?
Shouldnt you be calling for the immediate withdrawal of our troops from Iraq?
Havent we done enough damage already?
But here is the most important question of them all: Shouldnt you be doing everything in your power to IMPEACH Bush? The killing of innocent Iraqi citizens by the use of chemical weapons is not fighting the war on terrorism. What it proves is that we are the terrorists. As I once wrote the Iraqi citizens are suffering a 9/11 on a daily basis for over two and a half years.
To the American media you continually refer to President Hugo Chavez as a leftist leader again let me remind you of this fact
he is a democratically-elected President.
As you write every negative article about President Chavez, let me also remind you that he did not do anything comparable to what Bush has done.
If the American media sat down and watched this video feed
and after seeing such horrifying images
wouldnt they at least be ashamed of using any derogatory term related to President Chavez especially?
Why are they not in front of their cameras calling Bush a butcher?
Why are they not at their keyboards using similar terms to describe Bush? Where is the morality?
When Pat Robertson was given a podium by the American media citing that President Chavez was a threat to our nation, what the American media failed to see is that Bush is truly the threat to all humanity
our mainstream American media has failed us all by not reporting these facts.
Contained within this horrific feed one former soldier asserts that the commanders were waiting for the election results to launch their bloody campaign against Fallujah. They were eager to get in there, get the job done to bring death and destruction to the citizens of that town. They did not want to have to wait for any election results between Bush and Kerry to go on as it did between Bush and Gore. When Kerry conceded, it was their green light to go in to this city and use provable weapons of mass destruction on an innocent people. After viewing this feed, Kerry should have dragged the results on for weeks and months on end.
As you will see and as reported by RAI News 24's investigative story: They present eye-witness accounts by US military personnel but those from Fallujah residents. A rain of fire descended on the city. People who were exposed to those multicolored substance began to burn. We found people with bizarre wounds-their bodies burned but their clothes intact, relates Mohamad Tareq al-Deraji, a biologist and Fallujah resident.
What I do find maddening are these facts as presented in this video feed: In the investigative story, produced by Maurizio Torrealta, dramatic footage is shown revealing the effects of the bombardment on civilians, women and children, some of whom were surprised in their sleep. The investigation will also broadcast documentary proof of the use in Iraq of a new napalm formula called MK77. The use of the incendiary substance on civilians is forbidden by a 1980 UN treaty. The use of chemical weapons is forbidden by a treaty which the US signed in 1997"
So, if the use of these chemical weapons is forbidden by a treaty we signed under Clinton: Isnt Bush committing a crime now by using these same weapons of mass destruction?
Arent our elected officials turning their backs on war crimes such as this?
A while back the full Senate appropriated US$82 billion more for this war and where just recently they appropriated another $50 billion. Isnt the United States government turning their backs on a treaty we signed and shouldnt they be held accountable?
I would love to ask Pat Robertson who exactly the real threat is
From what I have seen, it is not President Hugo Chavez, but George W. Bush.
What I have seen in Bush is not a man that should be allowed to roam free, with our governments permission and ours. The only place I can think of is a cell right next to Saddam Hussein. At the very least George W. Bush deserves to be tried at The Hague for crimes against humanity
the citizens of Kosovo toppled their leader Slobodan Milosevic then sent to him to The Hague for similar crimes.
I am asking all our readers to send this video feed to everyone you know
I am asking that this crime be exposed.
How can we call ourselves a civilized nation if we can do this to innocent civilians that included women and children as they slept?
Bush brought down death and destruction
and the images speak for themselves.

The United States of Torture
by Mike Whitney
November 5, 2005
How did we stoop so low?
As if Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo werent bad enough, the Bush administration has added another layer of shame to our national disgrace.
Dana Priests article The CIA Holds Terror Suspects in Secret Prisons paints a sobering picture of an administration that has abandoned any trace of integrity and completely run amok. The United States has become the number 1 exporter of torture in the world today with Bush serving as its foremost champion.
The article provides a window into the constellation of CIA prison camps that dot the globe like the myriad islands in the Pacific. Thousands of Muslims have been swept up in a global dragnet and dumped in secret gulags where they are subjected to the grueling regimen of beatings and torture. The camps were authorized by President Bush in an executive finding 6 days after Sept 11, thats when, as one high-ranking official said, The gloves came off. It gave the CIA broad authorization to disrupt terrorist activity, including permission to kill, capture and detain members of al Qaeda anywhere in the world.
The result of Bushs action was the development of black sites where the disappeared victims of American foreign policy could be held and treated with impunity. These prisoners have been abducted from sovereign nations, in clear violation of international law, tortured and, perhaps, killed, without any legal process in place to shield them from the arbitrary authority of US agents. How can any US citizen or American ally defend this capricious and lethal conduct?
The top 30 al Qaeda prisoners exist in complete isolation from the outside world. Kept in dark, sometimes underground cells, they have no recognized legal rights, and no one outside the CIA is allowed to talk with or even see them, or to otherwise verify their well-being, said current and former and U.S. and foreign government and intelligence officials, Priest states.
Complete isolation? No legal rights? Underground cells?
Again, we see the familiar pattern of an administration which refuses to be bound by either international law or common decency.
Ironically, Bush and co. have resurrected a number of the Soviet-era prisons in the Eastern block for their vile activities. How strange that the spawn of Ronald Reagan, arch-rival of the evil empire, would breathe new life into these relics of communist rule; throwing open the iron gates and putting them back to work.
Welcome to Riga Gulag: Under New Management.
Certainly, Dick Cheney would match up quite nicely with his antecedent, Joe Stalin. Cheney has become the administrations foremost advocate of torture (Washington Post). He has made a straightforward appeal to members of Congress to continue to allow the cruel, degrading and inhuman treatment of prisoners even though it is in clear violation of US treaties banning torture and the Geneva Conventions. Many people now believe that Cheneys impassioned plea to Congress has less to do with his heartfelt convictions and more to do with the fact that the bloody footprints for the abusive behavior leads straight to the VPs front door. As Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, former Chief of Staff to Colin Powell, stated on NPR, The Secretary of Defense, under cover of the Vice Presidents office, began to authorize procedures within the armed forces that led to what weve seen. There was a visible audit trail from the Vice Presidents office through the Secretary of Defense, down to commanders in the field.
Clearly, Cheneys present machinations in the Senate are just a way of concealing his role in creating the policy. Theres little doubt now of his culpability.
The political fallout from the abuse-scandal will linger for decades to come, tarnishing the image of the United States and undermining its claim of being a staunch defender of human rights. What began in metal containers in Afghanistan where Taliban suspects were asphyxiated in the broiling summer sun, led to the open-air cages in Guantanamo Bay where prisoners were callously exposed to the elements for nearly 4 months. The devolution of policy has produced a daisy-chain of rat-infested dungeons manned by CIA goons and bearing the imprimatur of the President of the United States. The war on terror has metastasized into a war OF terror producing its own toxic ethos that has infected every area of the body politic.
The Red Cross, the ACLU, Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International have all provided documented evidence that the Bush administration is engaged in widespread prisoner abuse. The allegations are further corroborated by the eyewitness accounts of military personnel, former inmates, and even Abu Ghraibs former-Commanding Officer, Gen. Janice Karpinski. Theres no doubt that cruel and unusual treatment of prisoners is administration policy or that the chain of command follows a straight path to the Oval Office.
The long catalogue of abominations and abuses begins and ends with George W. Bush. Hes the man in charge and thats where the buck stops.

Youre doin a Heck of a Job, Dick Cheney (Nov 7)
http://www.williambowles.info/guests/2005/cheney_job.html
No man in the 200 year history of the United States has embodied the banality of evil as thoroughly as Dick Cheney; a dumpy, mid-level bureaucrat who ascended the political ladder through hardnosed calculation and cold-blooded vindictiveness. Cheney would be fine behind the counter of a fast-food restaurant snarling at the help and flaunting his authority, but as Vice President hes been a dead-loss. (...) The testimony of Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, Colin Powells former chief of staff, has clarified Cheneys role as the mastermind of Americas new torture-regime. Wilkerson stated that, The Secretary of Defense under cover of the Vice Presidents office began to authorize procedures within the armed forces that led to what weve seen…There was a visible audit trail from the vice presidents office through the secretary of defense down to the commanders in the field. (NPR)Wilkerson puts Cheney at the epicenter of the torture scandal, a claim that the VP does not deny. In fact, he has filled his office with men who share his views and are willing to vigorously defend the presidents right to commit any conceivable transgression in the name of national security. His appearance on Capitol Hill identifies him as the author of the present policy and its main champion. His petition to the Senate is a request that we scrap the Constitution, and its explicit defense of human rights, and accept his sordid proposals for state-sanctioned brutality. (...) During the last 5 years, Cheney has tried to establish the supreme authority of the presidency. He knew that the Bush was a weak-minded braggart whose acuity never exceeded the political bromides whispered into his ear-piece. This gave Cheney the opportunity to work behind the scenes to overturn long-honored treaties, obstruct congressional oversight, and savage constitutional protections. He enthusiastically touted the policies of unprovoked aggression (preemption) and the indefinite suspension of inalienable rights (enemy combatant). He transformed the existing system, with its many checks and balances, into a personal fiefdom for rewarding venal corporate kingpins with no bid contracts and for sluicing billions of tax-payer dollars into the coffers of defense contractors.More than any politician of his era, Cheney demonstrated a Machiavellian flair for transforming public fear into support for unpopular policies. He is the shadowy figure behind the curtain, a Texas Rasputin, using the public relations hologram, George Bush, to conceal his raging ambition. A skillful manipulator, Cheney has lurched to the top of the political anthill straddling his Crawford draught-horse. CLIP
Three Decades of Absolute Power
the Story of CEO VP Dick Cheney
and Iraq (Oct 30)
http://www.williambowles.info/guests/2005/cheney.html
The goal of liberty and freedom and the 'bad guys' Dick Cheney endlessly talks about is the same guys VP Cheneys companies of Halliburton/KBR have been openly doing business with before and after 9/11 and that includes Iran but the VP and his corporate Oil cronies still openly rob the American taxpayer in Iraq and Kuwait. Let us examine his rise to power, in order to find what really motivates this `dark character as some have called him over the last years in his grab for `raw power, within the elite structures of our national intelligence, defense contractors and `Big Oil. (...) From March 1989 to January 1993, Cheney served as the Secretary of Defense under then President George H.W. Bush and directed` Operation Just Cause in Panama and `Operation Desert Storm in the Middle East. In 1991 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for `preserving Americas defenses at a time of great change around the world. After the Bush I Presidential loss in 1992, Cheney joined the American Enterprise Institute after leaving office in 1993. In 1995 he became Chairman and CEO of Halliburton Company, a worldwide energy services corporation with a long history of service to the government and federal no-bid contracts some Halliburton subsidiaries even served as private military contractors and covertly worked to develop Iranian and Iraqi oil-field reserves through these subsidiaries. He also sat on the board of Procter & Gamble, Union Pacific, and EDS. In 1997, he, along with Donald Rumsfeld and other neo-cons, founded the non-profit educational organization called the `Project for the New American Century whose goal was to `promote American global leadership and hegemony of the global economic structure. At this time and as a neo-conservative (aka `the Falcons)
he was also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Cheney is also at this period the CEO of Halliburton Company, which greatly benefits from contracts with the U.S. government, especially the second war with Iraq. Cheney has still maintained his ties to the Carlyle Group, and was a former Senior Fellow with the American Enterprise Institute, while serving on the Advisory Board of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), and his founding member status within the `Project for the New American Century (PNAC). Starting in 1995 and as the CEO of Halliburton/KBR over five years, Cheney nearly doubled the size of Halliburtons government contracts, totaling a whopping $2.3 billion. He convinced the Export-Import Bank of the U.S. to lend Halliburton and oil companies another $1.5 billion, backed by U.S. taxpayers most of the of these loans went to a Russian company with ties to the Russian mafia underworld. Cheneys rule at Halliburton was characterized by a ruthless geopolitical strategy that put aside political beliefs whenever they were inconvenient. In a number of cases, Halliburton and its subsidiaries supported or even ordered human rights violations and broke international laws. Some glowing examples include direct dealings with Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi which engaged the now famous foreign subsidiary of the Halliburton Company, KBR to perform millions of dollars worth of work. According to the Baltimore Sun, Kellogg Brown & Root was fined $3.8 million for violating Libyan sanctions. (Although Cheney wasnt leading Halliburton when these sales started, subsidiaries sales to Libya continued throughout his tenure.) Another glaring Halliburton blunder came when Cheney claimed that he still supported the U.S. sanctions on Iraq after the Gulf War, but the Financial Times of London reported that through foreign subsidiaries and affiliates, Halliburton became the biggest oil contractor for Iraq from the mid-1990s forward, selling more than $73 million in goods and services to Saddam Husseins regime. In Burma, Halliburton joined various oil companies in working on two notorious gas pipelines, the Yadana and Yetagun for the Burma (now Myanmar) military juntas that occasionally seized power a half-dozen times. According to an Earth Rights report, "From 1992 until the present, thousands of villagers in Burma were forced to work in support of these pipelines and related infrastructure, lost their homes due to forced relocation, and were raped, tortured and killed by soldiers hired by the companies as security guards for the pipelines." One of Halliburton's projects was undertaken and continued during Dick Cheney's tenure as CEO right up to the 2000 Presidential election. CLIP

CIA v. Cheney (Nov 9)
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/110905Y.shtml
Allegations keep cropping up in the press that CIA professionals are undermining the administration. In at least one sense, I suppose, this is true. For when an administration embarks on a war justified by little or no intelligence, speaking truth can be regarded as treachery. The country could use more of that kind of "treachery." Vice President Cheney in Trouble - Cheney's current situation has the makings of a Greek tragedy in the way he is about to self-destruct. The tragic flaw of overweening arrogance - the Greeks called it hubris - did not begin with Euripides. Nor will it end with the inexorably approaching demise of the vice president and other leaders of the current US administration. (...) Patriotic truth-tellers are coming out of the woodwork. For example, Larry Wilkerson, who was former Secretary of State Colin Powell's chief of staff, has made public his conclusion that Cheney was the main author of this administration's policy of torturing detainees "as appropriate and as consistent with military necessity." Leaks in the dike are proliferating. Perhaps worst of all, from the president's point of view, is the fact that Karl Rove has pulled his finger out of the dike - preoccupied as he is in avoiding indictment and jail. Katrina-type flooding is threatening the White House. For Cheney, the disclosures regarding the network of overseas prisons run by the CIA, together with his dogged opposition to Congressional restraints on interrogation techniques, may prove the last straw. Council of Europe to Probe Alleged CIA Jails (Nov 8)

Brussels - The Council of Europe has opened an investigation into reports of secret CIA detention centers in Romania and Poland, a European Commission spokesman said on Tuesday. The decision follows a Washington Post report earlier this month which said the US intelligence agency has been hiding and interrogating al Qaeda captives at secret facilities in Eastern Europe. The detention centers are part of a covert global prison system that included sites in eight countries and was set up after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the Washington Post said. "We understand that the Legal Affairs Committee of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly has appointed its chairperson, Dick Marty," said Friso Roscam-Abbing, justice and home affairs spokesman for the European Union executive. The Council of Europe is the continent's top human rights watchdog and includes the European Court of Human Rights. Marty, who is Swiss, will look into the allegations "with a view to a possible urgent debate" on November 25 in Bucharest, the Council of Europe said on its Web site. CLIP

Drifting towards a Police State
by Mike Whitney
3/11/05
Those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid the terrorists for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve. They give ammunition to Americas enemies and pause to Americas friends Former Attorney General, John Ashcroft
Did you know that under the terms of the new Patriot Act prosecutors will be able to seek the death penalty in cases where defendants gave financial support to umbrella organizations without realizing that some of its adherents might eventually commit violence? (NY Times; editorial 10-30-05) So, if someone unknowingly gave money to a charity that was connected to a terrorist group, he could be executed.
Or, that the Senate Intelligence Committee is fine-tuning the details of a bill that will allow the FBI to secretly procure any of your personal records without probable cause or a court order giving them unchecked authority to pry into personal and business matters? (New York Times, Republicans seek to widen FBI Powers, 10-19-05)
Or, that on June 29, President Bush put a broad swath of the FBI under his direct control by creating the National Security Service (aka; the New SS)? This is the first time weve had a secret police in our 200 year history. It will be run exclusively by the president and beyond the range of congressional oversight.
Or, that on October 27, 2005 president Bush created the National Clandestine Service, which will be headed by CIA Director Porter Goss and will expand reporting of information and intelligence value from state, local and tribal law enforcement entities and private sector stakeholders? This executive order gives the CIA the power to carry out covert operations, spying, propaganda, and dirty tricks within the United States and on the American public. (The New National Intelligence Strategy of the US by Larry Chin, Global Research)
Or, that Pentagon intelligence operatives are now permitted to collect information from US citizens without revealing their status as government spies? (Bill would give Cover to Pentagon Spies, Greg Miller, Times Staff writer, The Nation)
Or, that within 2 years every American license and passport will be made according to federal uniform standards including microchips (with biometric information) that will allow the government to trace every movement of its citizens?
Or, that recent rulings, the DC District Court unanimously decided in two different cases that foreign prisoners have no rights under international law to challenge their indefinite imprisonment by the United States and, (in Rumsfeld vs. Padilla) that the president can lock up an American citizen without charges if he believes he may be an enemy combatant? Both verdicts overturn the fundamental principles of inalienable rights, habeas corpus, and the presumption of innocence; replacing them with the arbitrary authority of the executive.
The American people have no idea of the amount of energy that has been devoted to stripping them of their constitutional protections and how stealthily that plan has been carried out. It has required the concerted efforts of the political establishment, the corporate elite, and the collaborative media. For all practical purposes, the government is no longer constrained in its conduct towards its citizens; it can do as it pleases.
The campaign to dismantle the Bill of Rights has focused primarily on the key amendments; the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th and 14th. These are the cornerstones of American liberty and they encompass everything from due process to equal protection to free speech to a ban on the cruel and unusual treatment of prisoners. Freedom has little tangible meaning apart from the safety provided by these amendments.
At present, theres no reason for the administration to assert its new powers. That would only dispel the widely-held illusion of personal freedom. But, the existing climate of well being will not last forever. The poisonous effects of war, tax cuts, burgeoning budget deficits, and inflation indicate that darker days lie ahead. The middle class is stretched paper-thin and disaster could be as close as a hike in interest rates. The new repressive legislation anticipates the massive political unrest that naturally follows a tenuous and volatile economic situation.
Is this why Congress has rubber stamped so many of the administrations autocratic laws, or does Bush simply hate our freedoms?
The members of Americas ruling elite carefully follow the shifting of policy in Washington. They have the power to access the mainstream media and dispute the changes in the law that they oppose. Regrettably, theres been no sign of protest from the bastions of the corporate, financial and political oligarchy; just an ominous silence.
Does this mean that American Brahmins have abandoned their support for personal liberty and the rights of man?
America is undergoing its greatest metamorphosis. It has been severed from its constitutional moorings and is drifting towards a police state. If Samuel Alito is appointed to the Supreme Court then Bush will be able to solidify his unchecked power as executive and 50 years of progressive legislation will be up for review. Everything from abortion to Miranda will be reconsidered through the hard-right lens of the new majority.
Americans still seem blissfully unaware of the fundamental changes to the political system. The country is slipping inexorably towards the Orwellian nightmare; the National Security State.

On November 2, the Washington Post carried an explosive front-page story about secret Eastern European prisons set up by the CIA for the interrogation of terrorism suspects. While the Post article, by reporter Dana Priest, gave readers plenty of details, it also withheld the most crucial informationthe location of these secret prisonsat the request of government officials.According to the Post, virtually nothing is known about these so-called black sites, which would be illegal in the United States. Given the abuses at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay, news that the U.S. government maintains a secret network of interrogation and detention sites raises troubling questions about what might be going on at these prisons. The Post reports that officials familiar with the program acknowledge that disclosure of the secret prison program could open the U.S. government to legal challenges, particularly in foreign courts, and increase the risk of political condemnation at home and abroad. But the Washington Post did its part to minimize those potential risks: CLIP

Bush's Increasing Mental Lapses and Temper Tantrums Worry White House Aides
By DOUG THOMPSON
Nov 2, 2005
An uncivil war rages inside the walls of the West Wing of the White House, a bitter, acrimonious war driven by a failed agenda, destroyed credibility, dwindling public support and a President who lapses into Alzheimer-like periods of incoherent babbling.
On one side are the dwindling numbers of die-hard loyalists to President George W. Bush, those who support his actions and decisions without question and remain committed to both Bush and scandal-scarred political advisor Karl Rove.
On the other side are the increasing numbers of those who say Rove must go and who worry about the President's declining mental state and his ability to restore credibility with Congress, our foreign allies and the American people.
The war erupted into full-blown shout fests at Camp David this past weekend where decorum broke down in staff meetings and longtime aides threatened to quit unless Rove goes. Insiders say Chief of Staff Andrew Card now leads the anti-Rove legions and has told Bush that he wants out of the high-pressure job.
White House staff members say the White House is "like a wartime bunker" where shell-shocked aides hide from those who disagree with their actions and office pools speculate on how long certain senior aides will last.
Bush, whose obscenity-laced temper tantrums increase with each new setback and scandal, abruptly ended one Camp David meeting by telling everyone in the room to "go fuck yourselves" before he stalked out of the room.
Senior aides describe Bush as increasingly "edgy" or "nervous" or "unfocused." They say the President goes from apparent coherent thought one moment to aimless rambles about political enemies and those who are "out to get me."
"It's worse than the days when Ronald Reagan's Alzheimer's began setting in," one longtime GOP operative told me privately this week.
"You don't know if he's going to be coherent from one moment to the next. What scares me is if he lapses into one of those fogs during a public appearance."
Aides say Bush, who has always had trouble focusing during times of stress, is increasingly distant during meetings, often staring off into space during discussions on the nation's security and other issues.
Card has responded to the crisis by cutting back on the number of staff members with direct access to the President and jumping in to answer questions when Bush's mind wanders.
"Some people say Karl Rove is 'Bush's brain'" says one increasingly-concerned West Winger. "Well Andy has become the President's voice. He's there to speak when the President seems unable to find form an answer."
Bush's mental state is a hot topic on Internet blogs and has increased since this web site disclosed last year that the White House physician had placed the President on anti-depressant medication a story the administration never denied. Others, including prominent psychiatrists like Dr. Justin Frank of George Washington University, wonder if Bush, an admitted heavy drinker who claims he quit without any professional help, is hitting the bottle again.
An increasing number of mainstream media outlets, including Newsweek, The Washington Post and the New York Daily News recently confirmed our earlier reports about Bush's temper tantrums.
"Bush usually reserves his celebrated temper for senior aides because he knows they can take it," the Daily News reported. "Lately, however, some junior staffers also have faced the boss's wrath."
"This is not some manager at McDonald's chewing out the help," a source with close ties to the White House told the paper. "This is the president of the United States, and it's not a pleasant sight."
Bush loyalists claim the President can survive his current spate of political troubles and emerge stronger than ever but an increasing number of White House aides express increasing doubt. Some even go so far as to speculate if the President's deteriorating mental condition can survive another three years in office.
"The President has lost his focus, his ability to govern and the trust of the American people," says one longtime GOP operative. "Those are things that are difficult to recapture when you're on top of your game and this President has taken one too many blows to the head."

GOP Leaders to Bush: 'Your Presidency is Effectively Over'
By DOUG THOMPSON
Nov 4, 2005
A growing number of Republican leaders, party strategists and political professional now privately tell President George W. Bush that his presidency "is effectively over" unless he fires embattled White House advisor Karl Rove, apologizes to the American people for misleading the country into war and revamps his administration from top to bottom.
"The only show of unity we have now in the Republican Party is the belief that the President has failed the party, the American people and the presidency," says a longtime, and angry, GOP strategist.
With the public face of support for Bush eroding daily from even diehard Republicans, the President faces mounting anger from within his party over the path that may well lead to loss of control of Congress in the 2006 midterm elections and the White House in 2008.
"This presidency is in trouble," says a senior White House aide. "Even worse, I don't know if there is a way out of the trouble."
Congressional leaders journeyed to the White House before Bush left on his South American tour this week to tell the President that his legislative agenda on the Hill is dead, his latest Supreme Court nominee faces a tough confirmation fight in the Senate and he is facing open revolt within party ranks.
"The Speaker is having an increasingly difficult time holding his troops in line," says a source within the office of House Speaker Dennis J. Hastert. "Anger at the President grows exponentially with each passing day."
At a recent White House strategy session, internal party pollsters told the President that his approval rating with Americans continues to slide and may be irreversible, citing his failed Iraq war, the failed Supreme Court nomination of Harriet Miers and his failure to deal decisively on a number of fronts, including Hurricane Katrina, the economy and the Valerie Plame scandal.
In meetings, leaders and strategists have suggested a number of things that Bush must do to try and save his presidency and GOP prospects in upcoming elections, including:
* Apologize to the American people, Congress and our allies for misleading them on the reasons for invading Iraq;
* Revamp the White House staff from top to bottom;
* Fire Rove.
"We keep coming back to Rove," says a GOP pollster. "He has escaped indictment, so far, but the feeling within the party is that another shoe is ready to drop and the longer he waits to jettison Rove the greater the damage. As long as Karl Rove remains at the President's side, the Bush presidency is effectively over and he is just riding out the days until the nation elects a Democrat to replace him. Even with Rove gone the damage may be irreparable."
Bush, however, has dug his heels in on Rove. When a GOP strategist suggested last weekend that the President fire Rove, Bush exploded.
"You go to hell," he screamed at the strategist. "You can leave and you can take the rest of these lily-livered motherfuckers with you!" The President then stormed out of the room and refused to meet further with any other party leaders or strategists.
Bush's escalating temper tantrums and his intransigence on political issues increase Republican worries about the long term effects on both his presidency and the party's prospects in upcoming elections.
"Right now, George W. Bush is the Republican Party's chief liability," says a GOP strategist who has advised Presidential campaigns for 30 years. "The entire political future of the party and perhaps the nation now rests on the shoulders of a President that no one - Democrat or Republican - believes in or trusts."

Tularemia Follows Cindy Sheehan to Bay Area
Nov 03, 2005
There are days when I wear my tin foil hat with pride, no matter how intense the jeering gets. And today may be shaping up to be one of those days.
A much under-reported (even in the blogosphere) story was how during the big September 23 Peace Rally in Washington, DC (the one that Bush avoided by fleeing deep underground a Colorado mountain under the guise of "watching the deployment of hurricane Rita relief), was that six widely dispersed bio-terror weapons sensors in the region were triggered for the first time ever, detecting tularemia (rabbit fever), a natural bacteria weaponized like anthrax. Official warnings were issued by state and local health departments, but the federal government issued a lame denial claiming that this unique event was due to the peace marchers "kicking up dust" (even though it was raining the day of the protest). Subsequently, they were many reports, including many here on Daily Kos, of persons attending the march getting violently ill with strange symptoms, on their way home or very soon after their trip to DC.
http://markcrispinmiller.blogspot.com/
Yesterday, there was a large peace demonstration in San Francisco at which Cindy Sheehan spoke. And, the local news is now reporting, that for the first time ever, bio-terror weapons sensors in the Bay Area are detecting Tularemia. Just a coincidence?
http://www.nbc11.com
If the Plamegate shows us anything it is that a vengeful and vindictive out-of-control White House will do absolutely anything to shut down its opponents. We have wilkerson's word's that the Cheney-Rumsfeld cabal has run amok and hijacked America's foreign policy. Need I remind anyone, that Karl Rove himself is STILL in charge of American domestic policy? Could this be a Rovian plot designed to blame the protesters (who hate America, of course) for the release of biotoxins!

While French politicians say the violence now circling and even entering the capital of France and spreading to towns across the country is the work of organized criminal gangs, the residents of Le Blanc-Mesnil know better. Many of the rioters grew up playing soccer on Rezzougs field. They are the children of baggage handlers at nearby Charles de Gaulle International Airport and cleaners at the local schools."Its not a political revolution or a Muslim revolution," said Rezzoug. "Theres a lot of rage. Through this burning, theyre saying, I exist, Im here. "Such a dramatic demand for recognition underscores the chasm between the fastest growing segment of Frances population and the staid political hierarchy that has been inept at responding to societal shifts. The youths rampaging through Frances poorest neighborhoods are the French-born children of African and Arab immigrants, the most neglected of the countrys citizens. A large percentage are members of the Muslim community that accounts for about 10 percent of Frances 60 million people. (...) "Im a citizen of France, but I dont count," said an athletic 28-year-old who identified himself only as Abdel. With his trim black beard and short hair gelled into shiny black wavelets, Abdel hovered on the edge of the circle surrounding the youths who admitted to their involvement in the violence."They call us maggots," added a thin teenager hunched inside a thin polyester windbreaker that offered little protection from the damp chill of a gray fall afternoon.Beyond their hatred of Sarkozy, the youths involved in the rampages and their companions offer a disparate list of grievances against the government.Abdel, echoing the anger of many of the youths, said he resented the French governments efforts to thrust Muslim leaders into the role of mediators between the police and the violent demonstrators."This has nothing to do with religion," he said. "But non-Muslims are afraid of people like me with a beard. I look suspicious to them. Discrimination is all around us. We live it every day. Its become a habit. Its in the air."
Now contrast this above with the following... Any comment on this situation is welcomed...

Neo-con/fascist provocateurs behind French riots?
As is the case with other European countries where fascist and Islamist fundamentalist forces have joined forces, there is increasing evidence that the riots that have swept France for a week and a half have been far more than spontaneous reactions to the electrocution at a Paris electrical sub-station of two Muslim teens who were escaping police.
With an ailing President Jacques Chirac stepping down in 2007, the battle lines have been drawn between two conservative presidential candidates - Interior Minister Nicolas Sarzoky (nicknamed "Sarko"), a confirmed neo-con in the tradition of fellow travelers in Italy, Britain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Israel, and Spain, and Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin.
Sarkozy has inflamed Muslims and other minorities in France by describing ghetto youths in broad pejorative terms such as "riff-raff" and "scum." While Sarkozy has inflamed the situation with his anti-immigrant rhetoric, de Villepin has sought to mollify the situation by not wanting to overreact and create more turmoil.
However, with rioting spreading beyond Paris to the north and south of the country and extending beyond young Muslims to unemployed African, Afro-Caribbean, and white young people, the situation is being used by Sarkozy to blame "Jihadist conspiracists" for coordinating the rioting.
Sarkozy has strong links to the Likud Party in Israel and the neo-cons in the Bush administration and the Blair government in London.
The neo-con media conglomerates such as Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and the Hollinger Group are blaming the violence on France's relative tolerance of its large Muslim population.
The neo-con media is also playing up reports that French rioters are proclaiming that they are turning Paris into "Baghdad."
The always reprehensible neo-con racist Mark Steyn, who pens his vile hate-filled garbage for the Chicago Sun Times and other neo-con rags, writes that the rioting youths are not really French but Arabs taking advantage of Jacques Chirac's "weakness" on Iraq.
Funny, but this editor never met too many Arabs from Cayenne, Fort-de-France, Basse-Terre, Abidjan, Antananarivo, Porto Novo, or Brazzaville. Too bad about the neo-cons, geography and history don't seem to be their strong points. Racist talking points, on the other hand, are their stock in trade.
Neo-con game plan? Turning Paris into Baghdad
What is happening in France has all the signs of yet another possible neo-con "false flag" operation in the same category as the Niger fraudulent uranium documents, the provocative actions of Israeli agents in New Jersey who were dressed up as Arabs during the morning of 9-11, unexplained Spanish and British government activities surrounding the train bombings in Madrid and London, and recent deadly bombings in Delhi during Hindu and Muslim holidays attributed to a previously unknown Kashmiri group.
The neo-cons have been unhappy about India's Congress government (a government the neo-cons are trying to link to the UN Oil-for-Food scandal), which unlike the previous Hindu nationalist government, is making peace overtures to neighboring Pakistan.
As with France, India immediately suspected closely coordinated planning in the bombings and sought to analyze intercepts of thousands of cell phone calls placed in the Indian capital shortly before the bombings.
The French politician who benefits the most from this explosion of violence in a country where Muslim citizens constitute a significant minority is Sarkozy.
The losers stand to be de Villepin's faction of the Gaullist RPR party and a newly-resurgent Socialist Party, which rejects the neo-con international agenda.
It is not coincidental that the rioting is mainly plaguing cities and towns governed by Socialist and Communist mayors -- leaders who are now caught between addressing the social problems that helped spark the violence and responding to calls for a return to law and order.
The Socialists, Greens, and Communists are charging Sarkozy with inciting greater violence and then failing to respond to it adequately, thus ensuring the rioting would spread beyond mainly Muslim areas in Paris to wealthier Parisian neighborhoods and beyond Paris to Rouen, Lille, Nice, Dijon, Strasbourg, Marseille, Bordeaux, Rennes, Pau, Orleans, and Toulouse.
Later, the closely coordinated rioting spread further to Lyon, Roubaix, Avignon, Saint-Dizier, Drancy, Evreux, Nantes, Dunkirk, Montpellier, Valenciennes, Cannes, and Tourcoing.
As in Italy, Britain, Switzerland, and Germany, there are strong links in France between Islamist fundamentalist provocateurs and neo-Nazis.
For example, French National Front leader Jean-Marie Le Pen is close to Achmed Huber, formerly of Al Taqwa, a Swiss and Italian financial group linked by the United States Treasury Department to Al Qaeda.
Informed sources in Germany and the United States have also linked Huber to the activities of Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega during the Iran-Contra covert operations conducted by the Reagan-Bush administration.
Interestingly, French intelligence and law enforcement are reporting that the riots in France involve international narcotics smugglers.
The possibility that neo-cons and their fascist allies are manipulating the violence in France to their own advantage has the net result of bringing France into the neo-cons' oft-stated goal of a "Clash of Civilizations" between the West and the Muslim world.
The likes of Mark Steyn are already insidiously referring to the Frankish-Muslim 732 Battle of Tours between a Moorish army and the forces of Charles Martel.
Other neo-con propaganda outlets are echoing the words "Vichy" for the French government.
It is all very transparent who is behind instigating the violence now sweeping France.
Reasonable political leaders in France should realize that the riots in France are being used to ratchet up tensions in Europe and distract attention away from recent reports of US secret prison camps and torture centers in Eastern Europe and additional proof that the neo-cons conspired to push the United States into a disastrous war in Iraq.
Already, the neo-con media is blaming the violence in France on Islamic terrorists -- a stock phrase for the neo-cons in Washington, London, Jerusalem, Rome, and the French Interior Ministry allies of Sarkozy.
However, most of the rioters, mostly from North Africa and Western Africa, are not even practicing Muslims, making the possibility of "Fifth Column" provocateurs being behind the violence all the more likely.
French officials are increasingly suggesting that the violence has been closely coordinated and that the primary targets -- trains, police stations, youth centers, banks, libraries, post offices, municipal buildings, schools -- have all been connected to the French government and not to ethnic or religious groups.
Muslim rioting has also spread to Arhus, Denmark and police in predominantly Muslim neighborhoods in Brussels are on full alert.
The Danish rioting conveniently broke out as a parliamentary inquiry is due to get underway on the lying by the neo-con influenced government of Anders Fogh Rasmussen on bogus Iraqi WMD intelligence.
Neo-con media organs in Europe and North America are suspiciously blaming the Muslim violence on Europe's "welfare state."
The National Security Agency and other signals intelligence agencies that monitor French communications are likely in possession of intercepts that would point to interesting outside interference in coordinating and promoting the French violence and the resultant counter-actions by Sarkozy.
It would be interesting to read the transcripts of Sarkozy's recent telephone conversations with his co-ideologists in Washington, London, Brussels, Jerusalem, and Rome.
A few years ago, a senior inspector with the French DST (FBI) told this editor that his agency's wiretaps of Richard Perle's home in the south of France had yielded some interesting information, all of which was passed to the FBI in Washington.
Perhaps it is time that raw intercepts of international phone calls and e-mail among the neo-cons be leaked in order to hang them using their own past tactics. With their fingerprints beginning to appear on the French rioting, the neo-cons are proving that they will not be put down easily.
Late News -- November 6, 2005 -- Well planned rioting continued for the 11th straight night throughout France. Rioting spread to Dreux, Every, Saint-Etienne, Picardie, Grigny, Draveil, Pierrefitte, and neighborhoods of Paris which had not yet experienced violence.
For the first time, French police were fired upon, with several wounded. There were also coordinated calls on the Internet for youths to join in attacks in cities and towns that had not yet seen rioting. There were also fears that the violence would soon spill across the French borders to Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the mini-states of Andorra and Monaco on the French periphery.
Meanwhile, the global neo-con media could hardly contain their glee over the violence in France.
