His information is guaranteed to help us remember who we are and become empowered to overcome the dark forces that engulf our planet at this time. David fearlessly faces the Illuminati, brings shadow into the light so we Lightworkers can face our own shadow, own it, incorporate it then empower ourselves to transcend shadow and bring ourselves and this world into higher consciousness. Using humor to face evil, David helps us discover the love and light that enables us to overcome shadow and create win-for-all utopia, civilized civilization where all consciousness is respected, all life’s honored and individual freedom’s revered. Join us for this incredible event that’s guaranteed to change your life forever. David’s astonishing information, and how he weaves it together, is way beyond the cutting edge and everyone wants to hear it before the global agenda he is exposing comes to pass. Using more than 600 illustrations, David Icke reveals a vast web of knowledge from endless subjects and areas of research and shows how they are all connected to the Global Secret Society Network behind 9/11, the Invasion of Iraq, Globalization, World Poverty, Control of the Banking System, Trans-national Corporations, Governments and Media. Big Bother is not coming. He’s here! David Icke (pronounced Ike) also reveals the illusory nature of reality and how it is created and manipulated to hold us in mental, emotional and physical servitude. Most importantly he shows how we can regain control of our daily experience and change the global prison into a global paradise. I've seen David speak twice on the mainland at two major conferences. I stood 2 hours in a line that wrapped around the convention hall to get a good seat; glad I did. David's the most spell-binding speaker I've ever seen, and I've seen thousands of presenters. I sat riveted in my chair for hours and still wanted more. David takes us through time, space and five-senses reality; then he brings us to higher consciousness, oneness and the light. While the Illuminati, Bush and the New World Order may have their agenda; we, the Light Workers, love humanity and have options to bring us all from these dark times to Utopia. The Utopian World lets us experience love, dignity, respect, freedom. We learn to create peace, prosperity and win-for-all. Hear David Icke speak; see his amazing Power Point presentation. You'll face all your fears, transform for the highest good and never be the same."

Rebels Launch an Array of Attacks Across Iraq (09 June 2004)
Baghdad, Iraq - Insurgents staged attacks on American forces and their allies on several fronts today, firing mortars at Iraqi militiamen west of here, setting two critical oil pipelines in the north ablaze and ambushing a military convoy in the capital. In the holy city of Najaf, in the south, fighters loyal to the rebel Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr moved to seize a police station tonight despite a declared cease-fire, the second such attack in two days. Today, the cleric's militia, the Mahdi Army, still controlled the holiest Shiite site in Iraq, the golden-domed Shrine of Ali. An aide to Mr. Sadr asserted that officials linked to the militia would have the right to take part in future elections despite a recent order from the American administration saying otherwise. The various assaults underscored the fact that the United States was still engaged in a wide-ranging war, one that American officials say will likely get worse as the White House tries to return some measure of sovereignty to Iraqis on June 30. The United Nations Security Council approved a resolution on Tuesday that recognizes the sovereign status of Iraq after June 30. Whether the approval will dampen the insurgents' resolve is one of the biggest questions confronting Iraqis and Americans. With the spate of attacks on Wednesday, the insurgents gave the impression that for the moment they were determined to carry on the fight. The attacks on the pipelines came after an assault on fuel and transmission lines that forced the shutdown last weekend of an enormous power plant south of Baghdad. The continuing sabotage of infrastructure shows that fighters are cannily picking targets that deliver basic goods and whose destruction can quickly wreck Iraqi confidence in the occupation and the new government. G8 in Savannah: Globalization forum amid military occupation (08 Jun 2004)
Savannah residents worried about protesters and terrorists instead saw a military occupation of their streets but not much else during the first day of G8. On Monday night some locals and visiting activists attended a forum on globalization issues hosted by the Sentient Bean, a fair trade coffee shop. For weeks, residents of Savannah's historic district prepared to get out of town or hunker down in their homes and shops in fear of anarchist hordes and terrorists believed already heading east on I-16. This week these fantasies gave way to a very visible military occupation, with army humvees and groups of bored Guardsmen on every downtown street. At a recent meeting of the historic district's neighborhood association, two board members had declared themselves ready to defend their Victorian homes with guns if necessary during G8 protests -- though it should be noted that their bluster was met with derision from calmer members. This week, aside from scattered reports of "suspicious" activities and a baseless bomb scare at an antique shop, all is calm. Memo on Torture Draws Focus to Bush (09 June 2004)
Aide says President set guidelines for interrogations, not specific techniques. The disclosure that the Justice Department advised the White House in 2002 that the torture of al Qaeda terrorist suspects might be legally defensible has focused new attention on the role President Bush played in setting the rules for interrogations in the war on terrorism. White House press secretary Scott McClellan said yesterday that Bush set broad guidelines, rather than dealing with specific techniques. (...) Attorney General John D. Ashcroft yesterday refused senators' requests to make public the memo, which is not classified, and would not discuss any possible involvement of the president. In the view expressed by the Justice Department memo, which differs from the view of the Army, physical torture "must be equivalent in intensity to the pain accompanying serious physical injury, such as organ failure, impairment of bodily function, or even death." For a cruel or inhuman psychological technique to rise to the level of mental torture, the Justice Department argued, the psychological harm must last "months or even years." A former senior administration official involved in discussions about CIA interrogation techniques said Bush's aides knew he wanted them to take an aggressive approach. CLIP

Bush Ignored Pentagon Lawyers Over Tactics in War on Terror (09 June 2004),13743,1234629,00.html
No consultation on detention without charge - The Bush administration routinely bypassed or overruled Pentagon experts on international law and the Geneva convention to construct a sweeping legal justification for harsh tactics in the war on terror, the Guardian has learnt. In one instance, President George Bush's military order of November 13 2001, which denies prisoner-of-war status to captives from Afghanistan and allows their detention without charge or access to a lawyer at Guantanamo, was issued without any consultations with Pentagon lawyers, a former Pentagon official said. The revelation follows reports in the US press this week of a Pentagon memo that argued that Mr. Bush was not bound by laws against torture, and that interrogators who torture detainees at Guantanamo cannot be prosecuted. The military order issued by Mr. Bush in November 2001 was the first such directive since the second world war, and the administration's failure to seek the Pentagon's advice on what would emerge as the entire system of detention at Guantanamo surprised Pentagon officials. Sexual Humiliation is the Norm in Military Prisons (08 June 2004)
Forced nudity of Iraqi prisoners is seen as a pervasive pattern, not isolated incidents. (...) Nudity is considered particularly shameful in Muslim culture, a violation of religious principles. While nudity as a disciplinary or coercive tool may be especially objectionable to Muslims, they are hardly the only victims of the practice. Soldiers in Nazi Germany paraded naked prisoners in daylight, and human rights groups have documented the use of nudity during conflicts in Egypt, Chile and Turkey, and in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation. Central Intelligence Agency training manuals from the 1960's and 1980's taught the stripping of prisoners as an interrogation tool. Nudity and sexual humiliation have also been reported in American prisons where a number of guards at Abu Ghraib worked in their civilian lives. Complaints about sexual humiliation have also emerged in Afghanistan. Seven Afghan men who had been held at the main detention center in Bagram, where the deaths of two detainees and accusations of abuse are now under investigation, said in recent interviews that during various periods from December 2002 to April 2004, they had been subjected to repeated rectal exams, and forced to change clothes, shower and go to the bathroom in front of female soldiers. Cruel Science: The Long Shadow of CIA Torture Research (May 31, 2004)
The photos from Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison are snapshots, not of simple brutality or a breakdown in discipline, but of CIA torture techniques that have metastasized, over the past 50 years, like an undetected cancer inside the US intelligence community. From 1950 to 1962, the CIA led massive, secret research into coercion and consciousness that reached a billion dollars at peak. After experiments with hallucinogenic drugs, electric shocks, and sensory deprivation, this CIA research produced a new method of torture that was psychological, not physical--best described as "no touch torture."The CIA's discovery of psychological torture was a counter-intuitive break-through--indeed, the first real revolution in this cruel science since the 17th century. In its modern application, the physical approach required interrogators to inflict pain, usually by crude beatings that often produced heightened resistance or unreliable information. Under the CIA's new psychological paradigm, however, interrogators used two essential methods, disorientation and self-inflicted pain, to make victims feel responsible for their own suffering. CLIP

Pollution Chokes the Tigris, a Main Source of Baghdad’s Drinking Water (June 6)
With reconstruction of a highly inadequate water treatment and distribution system at a near standstill throughout much of Central Iraq, some residents of Baghdad are left with little choice but to drink highly polluted water from the Tigris River. Aside from a newly formed Iraqi non-governmental organization that is focusing on the cleanup of one section of the river, not much is being done to improve Baghdad residents’ access to potable water, and US contractors appear unable or unwilling to help. While many areas of Baghdad have access to drinking water from a few of the functional treatment plants, millions of residents remain without a clean, reliable source. All too many of these unfortunates turn to the rotten banks of the Tigris, which snakes prominently through the heart of Baghdad collecting toxins as it flows. (...) The residents of the impoverished Baghdad neighborhood called Sadr City are often forced to drink untreated water directly from the Tigris. They are also plagued by diarrhea; many reportedly suffer from recurring kidney stones. (...) Tigris River water is a concentrated cocktail of pesticides, fertilizers, oil, gasoline and heavy metals, reports Dr. Husni Mohammed, an Iraqi who holds a PhD in Environmental and Biological Science and has researched the condition of the Tigris. Raw sewage mixes with particles from antiquated piping and US-fired depleted uranium munitions, he says, plus remnants from untold amounts of other chemicals released by American and Iraqi weaponry used since the 1991 Gulf War. In an alarming development, Dr. Mohammed’s research has additionally concluded that Iraqi and US military waste during the 2003 invasion deposited oil and benzene into the river. The health effects of benzene -- an ingredient found in gasoline and jet fuel -- are well known and severe. Short-term exposure can cause significant damage to the nervous system and dramatic suppression of the immune system. Consistent consumption of benzene-tainted water can cause long-term effects including cancer (particularly Leukemia), birth defects and damage to the reproductive system. Heavy metals in drinking water are also known to damage the liver, brain and other vital organs.Adding to the hazards, very few sewage treatment plants in Baghdad are operational. Raw waste from the city of five million residents can be pumped through the sewer system, completely bypassing any treatment, and flow right into the river. CLIP

Gore Continues to Blast Bush (05 June 2004)
Suddenly fiery ex-vice president rouses faithful in Tacoma. (...) Gore said responsibility for the treatment of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison could be traced back to the highest levels of the administration. "The abuse of those prisoners came directly from the abuse of the truth in the run-up to the war," he said. He also said the White House has granted corporate interests unrestricted and secret influence on energy, environmental and foreign policies. "This is wrong, it's anti-democratic. It's anti-American and we ought not to stand for it," he said. CLIP

World Must Act on Darfur Crisis, Says Kerry (08 June 2004)
The presumptive Democratic Presidential candidate, John Kerry, expressed concern about Darfur in a statement Monday. Also Monday a Washington Post newspaper editorial said that the United States and key allies had been so anxious to get an agreement ending Sudan's north-south civil war that they have "shrunk" from pressuring Khartoum on greater access to Darfur. Meanwhile the Bush administration defended its handling of the crisis in Sudan's western Darfur region. As many as 30,000 people are believed to have been killed in the Darfur conflict, which erupted more than a year ago and pits local rebels against Arab militiamen backed by the Sudanese government. Scorched-earth tactics by the militiamen have driven more than a million people from their homes, many of whom have fled into neighboring Chad. The United Nations and human rights experts warn that the government of Sudan is committing crimes against humanity and that there is a real risk of genocide. Last week the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) estimated that up to one million could die in the region. "The world did not act in Rwanda, to our eternal shame. Now we are at another crisis point this time in Sudan. The Sudan's western Darfur region demands the world's immediate attention and action, " John Kerry said. He said the United States and others should apply effective pressure on Khartoum to "rein in its militia proxies" in Darfur, allow unrestricted access to aid workers, and begin talks on a political settlement of the conflict. CLIP

300,000 Deaths Foretold (07 June 2004)
The early preparation for the genocide in Darfur, Sudan's vast western province, played out behind a veil of ignorance: Almost no foreign aid workers operated in the region, and the world failed to realize what was happening. Stage two of the genocide, the one we are now in, is more acutely shameful: A succession of reports from relief agencies, human rights groups and journalists informs us that hundreds of thousands of people are likely to perish, yet outsiders still cannot muster the will to save them. Unless that changes, we are fated to live through the genocide's third stage. There will be speeches, commissions of inquiry and sundry retrospectives, just as there were after Cambodia and Rwanda. Never again, we will be told. It is already too late to prevent death on a scale that taxes the imagination. Sudan's murderous government and its allies in the death squads known as the Janjaweed have killed an estimated 30,000 people in Darfur since a rebellion broke out there a bit over a year ago. The crackdown has chased more than 1 million people from their homes and villages. Refugees crowd into camps that the Janjaweed encircle, as food supplies dwindle and their children die for lack of clean water and medicines. The rainy season, now beginning, will make it hard to deliver relief supplies, and starvation seems probable. On Thursday, Andrew Natsios, administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, declared that in an optimistic scenario - meaning one in which significant relief is delivered - some 300,000 people might perish. That is the equivalent of Sept. 11, 2001, 100 times over. The worst-case scenario, according to Mr. Natsios, is a death toll that approaches 1 million. Sudan's government is delighted with this slaughter. It perfected the art of ethnic cleansing in its long war against the country's southern rebels, and it has expertly repeated the process in Darfur. The formula is to destroy villages using a combination of informal militias and government air power, then to deny relief organizations access and let starvation do the rest. When international protests heat up toward the boiling point, some humanitarian access is granted, but it's always late and inadequate. CLIP

Global Military Spending Hits $956 Billion In 2003 (June 09, 2004)
STOCKHOLM, Sweden — World military spending surged during 2003, reaching $956 billion (U.S.), nearly half of it by the United States as it paid for missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and the war on terror, a prominent European think tank said today. The money has been effective in waging war, but threats of terror and weapons of mass destruction still exist, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.Military spending rose by 11 per cent, which the group called a “remarkable increase.” The amount was up 18 per cent from 2001. The $956 billion spent on defence costs worldwide corresponded to 2.7 per cent of the world’s gross domestic product, according to the annual report. “It’s very close to the Cold War peak in 1987,” said SIPRI researcher Elisabeth Skoens, who co-authored the report.SIPRI also warned of fears that biotechnology research, particularly concerning human genes, could lead to the development of a new class of biological weapons. Nevada Nuclear Tests Might Resume (May 20, 2004)
Joe Bauman and Lee Davidson / Deseret Morning News
New projects planned for the Nevada Test Site are raising concern that nuclear bomb testing may resume there. Local and national military watchdogs say all indications are that President Bush, if re-elected, would begin testing some types of nuclear weapons before the end of the decade at the NTS, located about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas and upwind of Utah. "You put all the pieces of the puzzle together," said Steve Erickson, director of the local Citizens Education Project, "and it leads to the conclusion that yes, we may very well be on the road to a resumption of nuclear testing."

Invisible Beam Tops List of Nonlethal Weapons (June 1, 2004)
The Pentagon's new directed-energy weapon has been successfully tested on human subjects. The long-range column of millimeter-wave energy weapon can heat the skin to 130 F in less than a second causing the target to feel as if his or her skin is on fire. If the technology is perfected, there is little doubt that this "non-lethal" weapon will be used against civilian populations and political demonstrators. Critics fear it would inevitably be used as an instrument of torture. (...) Eleven years in the making at a cost of more than $50 million, the Active Denial System is still years from deployment. It weighs about 4 tons and consists largely of a big dish and antenna that are mounted on a Humvee multipurpose vehicle. CLIP

Hoaxing the Supreme Court (June 8)
Padilla remains gagged, but justice department tells 'his' story. (...) After two years during which Jose Padilla has been imprisoned in a windowless cell in a navy brig on American soil without charges – and in the final days of the Supreme Court's arriving at a decision in his case – Deputy Attorney General James Comey suddenly hurled a list of detailed accusations against this "enemy combatant" as designated by George W. Bush. Comey was not speaking in a court-room but rather in a nationally televised press conference. Padilla could not reply to those denunciations in his own defense. Nor could his lawyers. The government had at last allowed them to speak to their client twice after the Supreme Court had surprised the Bush team by taking Hamdi's case. But their meetings with their client were listened to and videotaped by the government. Moreover, one of Padilla's lawyers, Andrew Patel, tells me that the government has ruled that Padilla's attorneys cannot tell anyone what Padilla would say in answer to any government accusations because everything he told his lawyers is classified. Nor could his lawyers ask him about what he said in his interrogations. CLIP

Subject: Complementary material for the current Meditation Focus #112: Thwarting An Imminent Coup d'etat Through The Power of Love

Dearest Jean,

During yesterday morning's meditation/yoga, the following came to me, and I share it with you. Having only one paragraph for the meditation and pages of information and words that reflect the darkness, perhaps you can send this out to your list for others to also use at this time.

The word and thought are creative forces. We must use them wisely.

1. May only weapons of love be used from this day forth on this blessed planet Earth, "weapons" that bless with food, services, medicine, education, health care, housing, etc.

2. May all in possession of power and influence/wealth act only for the Highest Good for all of us on earth and the universe.

3. For those souls whose free will choice is to remain in rebellion and refuse to see the truth, may their guardian angels protect the individual from accruing further negative karma that needs to be replayed and intervene on behalf of all the rest of us to allow the greater good to prevail

4. May all fear be transmuted to trust in the One and Divine Essence of Love, the very fabric of and Creative Force of our Universe.

5. May each living being experience the manifestation of this Love in growing ways to be seen, heard, felt and acknowledged daily.

6. May all act in consideration of their neighbors (everyone else on Earth) in kindness and harmony.

7. May all levels of emotion below the level of unconditional Love be lovingly held by each soul with their guardian angels and guides to be transmuted with love, kindness, forgiveness, compassion.

8. May all knowledge of alternative forms of energy, manufacturing, transportation, building, restoration, etc be known and made manifest quickly to transform the damage we have brought to this planet.

9. May all debts and transgressions against the innocent be forgiven and restitution be manifest.

10. May Harmony and Peace prevail with abundance and Love for all. May those unwilling to abide by these be given the help they need by all the rest of us and all Higher Beings.

Blessings to you this wonderful day,

From: Ricardo Ocampo>

From: ASAP/José Luis Gutiérrez Lozano>

This is really GREAT news!

I am sorry, we have made all information in Spanish. Just very recently we found out the need of having a multilingual site.

Let me give you some background:

About two years ago, I got together with a few friends who were channeling or receiving by other means messages related to 'waking up the sleeping lady' or, one of the heart chackras of the planet (in Mexico) had to be activated.

We started to figure out how we could bring these things to happen and exchanged during almost 2 years information through the net system RED ANAHUAK/IBERAMERICAN WEB OF LIGHT. This originally Mexican net has approximately 1,500 nodes in Latin America, and almost 50,000 suscribers.

Because of my involvement during these past 2 years with the global movement toward an alternative economy, I offered our Foundation (Fundación Ahora) to be the host for the third Workshop of the Mexican Chapter of Solidarity Socio Economy">

So, the representatives of 43 communities, cooperatives, production-consumption groups, NGO’s, academics and investigators accepted and decided to get together in Aguascalientes between june 24 and june 27, 2004

As I mentioned this to the friends of Redanahuak, an idea of making a seminar became to take more strength and called to the FIRST MEXICAN WEB OF LIGHT GATHERING:

There are 7 thematic workshops:

- Ancestral Traditions, popular and ethnical culture

- New economy and sustainable development

- Ecology and ambientalism

- Networks, new society and citizenship

- Holistic health and healing

- Spirituality and Philosophy

- Sacred Art and Culture

There are cross-section workshops like:

- Education

- Mass media, nets

- New technologies

Other 50 organizations decided to back this idea and now I am in the eye of the hurricane. It seems to be the worst moment, for me to engage in such a project, but this one seems to be guided from well above us all.

I can continue giving you more info, but perhaps you might find the basics by surfing through these sites.

This is the subscription form
You can also find it in these 7 cities of light:

We can arrange the needed housing facilities and local transportation. Let me check out for alternatives for international flights.

I’ll keep in touch

Reagan's Bloody Legacy

David Corn

09 June 2004

Aren't we mature enough as a democracy to memorialize our leaders with clear eyes? While the nation mourns one of its most popular presidents, it must be truthful in assessing his leadership. The very resolve being celebrated on op-ed pages across the country also led Reagan to ignore and sometimes sanction the brutality being committed in the name of fighting the "evil empire."

I have a vision. On the day that the remains of Ronald Reagan are transported from the US Capitol to the National Cathedral for the funeral services, the hearse will pass 800 black crosses.

Each cross will represent one of the men, women and children who were killed by the Salvadoran military in the village of El Mozote in December 1981. Each would be a reminder that the dead man now celebrated in the media as a lover of freedom and democracy oversaw a foreign policy that empowered and enabled murderous brutes and thugs in the name of anti-Sovietism. Many innocents in other lands paid dearly for Reagan's crusade.

Throughout his presidency, Reagan made nice with dictators - no matter how nefarious - as long as they parroted his opposition to communism. As soon as he entered the White House, his administration tried to normalize relations with Augosto Pinochet, the dictator of Chile, who was responsible for a bloody coup that overthrew a democratically elected (but socialist) government. The Reaganites also cozied up to the fascistic and anti-Semitic junta of Argentina, which tortured, slaughtered and disappeared its political opponents. And don't forget Reagan's attempt to woo Saddam Hussein, even after it was known that Hussein had used chemical weapons. (Reagan assigned this task to Donald Rumsfeld.)

Reagan may have pushed for democracy and human rights in the Soviet bloc, but he cared little for these values elsewhere. He dramatically urged the destruction of the Berlin Wall and supported the Solidarity movement in Poland. But he sent money and assistance to regimes that repressed and murdered their people. While visiting Ferdinand Marcos, the Filipino dictator, Reagan's vice president, George H.W. Bush, toasted Marcos' "adherence to democratic principles." People lost their freedom or died because Reagan and his lieutenants could not see beyond their ideological blinders and cut deals with miscreants who shared their anti-Moscow mantra. Not only did Reagan embolden torturers and murders, the CIA, following his order to support the contra rebels in Nicaragua (who were trying to oust the socialist Sandinistas), worked with suspected drug traffickers. Who said so? Not conspiracy-theory nuts, but the inspector general of the CIA. Years after the contra war, the agency's IG produced two reports that conceded the CIA had enlisted the assistance of alleged drug-runners. At the same time Nancy Reagan was preaching "Just Say No" to drugs.

As I noted in this column a few months ago - when there was a media hullabaloo over a schlocky biopic of Reagan - Reagan was AWOL on one of the important battles for freedom and democracy in the 1980s: South Africa. He defended the racist apartheid government there and claimed - as wrongly as could be - that South Africa had "eliminated the segregation that we once had in our own country." And when Republicans and Democrats joined together in Congress to impose economic sanctions on the government of South Africa, Reagan vetoed the measure. In response to that veto, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a leader of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, said, "Apartheid will be dismantled, and its victims will remember those who helped to destroy this evil system. And President Reagan will be judged harshly by history." Not this week. CLIP

Ronald Reagan: The Arab Perspective (June 6, 2004)
Ronald Reagan was one of America's most loved -- and hated -- presidents. To millions around the world he reflected the lofty ideals of the US itself -- freedom, decency and democracy. But to others, he was the epitome of 1980s greed and selfishness, and represented the hypocrisy of US foreign policy. Libyan president Muammar al-Qadhafi said on Sunday he regretted Reagan had died without ever being tried for 1986 air strikes that killed dozens of people, including his adopted daughter. The Reagan administration was a major supplier of weapons to Saddam Hussein during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war, during which close to a million people were killed. And in 1988, under Reagan's orders, an Iranian passenger jet was shot at over the Persian Gulf by the USS Vincennes killing 290 innocent civilians. CLIP

Reagan 'Behind East Timor Genocide' (June 6, 2004)
President Ronald Reagan's administration remains morally responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of East Timorese, human rights groups have asserted. While tributes to Reagan - who died on Saturday after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease - have flooded in from former Soviet satellites in Eastern Europe and other US allies, in East Timor reactions to his passing have been tempered by his role in supporting Jakarta's occupation. The world must not forget that under [Ronald Reagan's] leadership, America helped the Indonesian military commit genocide in East Timor," said Jose Luis Oliveira, who heads Yayasan HAK, the country's leading rights organization. (...) Paul Wolfowitz, one of Reagan's main foreign policy advisers, was highly supportive of Indonesia dictator's Suharto's hardline policies. Wolfowitz, a key architect of the Iraq war, is now said to be spearheading efforts to re-establish military links with Jakarta. With Reagan's passing, another witness to the crimes of America in East Timor has gone," said Dili-based human rights researcher Mericio Akara. "Indonesians killed tens of thousands in East Timor using American-made weapons, so the American government under Ronald Reagan should be considered morally responsible for their deaths. CLIP

"I think most people view the president as a fair target," Mr. Rall said yesterday in an interview. "Reagan was a public figure, and he was an idiot. And if he were around and lucid, he would probably say that it comes with the territory." In a column published yesterday, Mr. Rall continued his assault on Mr. Reagan, calling the idea that the late president won the Cold War a "myth"and saying, "Reagan elevated unjustifiable military action to an art." He also said that both Mr. Reagan and President Bush relied on "Christianist" -- which he described as "the radical-right equivalent of Islamist" -- "depictions of foes as 'evil.' " (...) Mr. Rall defended the "crispy brown" comment and said it was made "to get people to understand that the right is attempting to canonize this guy, and it is ridiculous. If there is a hell, this guy is in it." CLIP

A Nice Guy's Nasty Policies (June 8)
(...) It also became increasingly clear that although the man wasn't unintelligent, his ability to mingle truth with fantasy was frightening. At different times, Reagan - who infamously said that "facts are stupid things" - falsely claimed to have ended poverty in Los Angeles; implied he was personally involved in the liberation of Europe's concentration camps; argued that trees cause most pollution; said that the Hollywood blacklist, to which he contributed names, never existed; described as "freedom fighters" the Contra thugs and the religious fundamentalists in Afghanistan who would later become Al Qaeda; and claimed that fighting a "limited" nuclear war was not an insane idea. Ronald Reagan: "Loved and Loathed"

The Secret Government Video
Bill Moyers, documents U.S. support of terrorist regimes and the brutality of Americas foreign policy...

You're not going to like this. You shouldn't speak ill of the dead. But in this case, someone's got to.

Ronald Reagan was a conman. Reagan was a coward. Reagan was a killer.

In 1987, I found myself stuck in a crappy little town in Nicaragua named Chaguitillo. The people were kind enough, though hungry, except for one surly young man. His wife had just died of tuberculosis.

People don't die of TB if they get some antibiotics. But Ronald Reagan, big hearted guy that he was, had put a lock-down embargo on medicine to Nicaragua because he didn't like the government that the people there had elected.

Ronnie grinned and cracked jokes while the young woman's lungs filled up and she stopped breathing. Reagan flashed that B-movie grin while they buried the mother of three.

And when Hezbollah terrorists struck and murdered hundreds of American marines in their sleep in Lebanon, the TV warrior ran away like a whipped dog ... then turned around and invaded Grenada. That little Club Med war was a murderous PR stunt so Ronnie could hold parades for gunning down Cubans building an airport.

I remember Nancy, a skull and crossbones prancing around in designer dresses, some of the "gifts" that flowed to the Reagans -- from hats to million-dollar homes -- from cronies well compensated with government loot. It used to be called bribery.

And all the while, Grandpa grinned, the grandfather who bleated on about "family values" but didn't bother to see his own grandchildren.

The New York Times today, in its canned obit, wrote that Reagan projected, "faith in small town America" and "old-time values." "Values" my ass. It was union busting and a declaration of war on the poor and anyone who couldn't buy designer dresses. It was the New Meanness, bringing starvation back to America so that every millionaire could get another million.

"Small town" values? From the movie star of the Pacific Palisades, the Malibu mogul? I want to throw up.

And all the while, in the White House basement, as his brain boiled away, his last conscious act was to condone a coup d'etat against our elected Congress. Reagan's Defense Secretary Casper the Ghost Weinberger with the crazed Colonel, Ollie North, plotted to give guns to the Monster of the Mideast, Ayatolla Khomeini.

Reagan's boys called Jimmy Carter a weanie and a wuss although Carter wouldn't give an inch to the Ayatolla. Reagan, with that film-fantasy tough-guy con in front of cameras, went begging like a coward cockroach to Khomeini pleading on bended knee for the release of our hostages.

Ollie North flew into Iran with a birthday cake for the maniac mullah -- no kidding --in the shape of a key. The key to Ronnie's heart.

Then the Reagan roaches mixed their cowardice with crime: taking cash from the hostage-takers to buy guns for the "contras" - the drug-runners of Nicaragua posing as freedom fighters.

I remember as a student in Berkeley the words screeching out of the bullhorn, "The Governor of the State of California, Ronald Reagan, hereby orders this demonstration to disburse" ... and then came the teargas and the truncheons. And all the while, that fang-hiding grin from the Gipper.

In Chaguitillo, all night long, the farmers stayed awake to guard their kids from attack from Reagan's Contra terrorists. The farmers weren't even Sandinistas, those 'Commies' that our cracked-brained President told us were 'only a 48-hour drive from Texas.' What the hell would they want with Texas, anyway?

Nevertheless, the farmers, and their families, were Ronnie's targets.

In the deserted darkness of Chaguitillo, a TV blared. Weirdly, it was that third-rate gangster movie, "Brother Rat." Starring Ronald Reagan.

Well, my friends, you can rest easier tonight: the Rat is dead.

Killer, coward, conman. Ronald Reagan, good-bye and good riddance.

U.N. Urges Fish Havens as World Marks Green Day

By Emma Graham-Harrison - Reuters

05 June 2004

Barcelona, Spain - The United Nations urged the creation of ocean parks to protect depleted fish stocks on Saturday as activists marked World Environment Day by freeing turtles, planting trees and decrying global warming.

"There's not a lot of reason for celebration," U.N. Environment Program (UNEP) chief Klaus Toepfer said in Barcelona of the state of the planet. UNEP's bleak slogan for June 5 is "Wanted! Seas and Oceans: Dead or Alive".

A group of children released two turtles, nursed back from injuries from fishermen's nets, into the Mediterranean from a Barcelona beach. From Australia to Zambia, activists tried to clean beaches, promote renewable energy or plant trees.

"Society can no longer view the world's oceans as a convenient dumping ground for our waste, or as an unlimited source of plenty," U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said in a call for urgent action.

He noted that governments agreed at an Earth Summit in Johannesburg in 2002 to try to restore depleted fish stocks by 2015 and to set up more protected marine areas, like wildlife parks on land, by 2012.

"This last especially important," he said in a statement. "Less than 0.5 percent of marine habitats are protected - compared with 11.5 percent of global land area."

Plastic Bag Killers

About 75 percent of fish stocks, from cod to tuna, are caught faster than they can breed, and every year plastic waste such as supermarket bags kills one million sea birds, 100,000 sea mammals and countless fish.

Some 3.5 billion people, more than half the world's six billion population, rely on seas for their main source of food.

"I love the turtles," said Nimit Jain, one of the children on the beach in Barcelona. "We're realizing we're only part of the ecosystem. We are the ones wasting it. This is our chance to change."

On the other side of the world, volunteers cleaned up trash washed up on Australia's Macquarie Island near Antarctica.

Others focused on wider themes for June 5, the date a first global summit on the environment was held in Stockholm in 1972. In nations including Sri Lanka and Ghana, activists planted trees to help slow deforestation.

In Oslo, a youth group protested against drilling for oil in the Arctic and urged a shift to renewable energies like solar or wind power with banners saying: "Stop Climate Change."

"If the war on environmental degradation is to be won, we need a major turnaround," World Bank President James Wolfensohn wrote in an editorial, saying progress was "alarmingly slow."

He said that aid to help developing nations protect the environment totaled $2.0 billion a year compared with global military spending of $900 billion.

Toepfer said: "Peace is the most important pre-condition for sustainability... poverty is the one of the most toxic elements in the world."

Even the British Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) - which maintains the nation's nuclear arsenal - is staging an exhibition on Saturday to educate staff on ways of protecting the environment at work and at home.

"Like any other large industrial complex we are aware that our operations can have the potential to harm the environment," the AWE said in a statement.

Physicians for Human Rights-Israel Petition to High Court: Stop Prisoner Abuse

Physicians for Human Rights-Israel filed a petition to the Israeli High Court today against the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) demanding that the systematic abuse of prisoners at the "Sharon" prison facility end immediately.

Over the past several months Physicians for Human Rights-Israel has received numerous complaints from prisoners held at the "Sharon" prison facility, located in the center of Israel, regarding prisoner abuse and humiliation by prison guards. In some cases the abuse included cases of extreme violence against the prisoners. There were incidents in which prisoners were shackled down and then beaten by the guards.

The impression received from the prisoners' affidavits given to lawyers sent by Physicians for Human rights-Israel, is that the abuse of prisoners in this prison is systematic and not related to "a few rotten apples".

One prisoner related that he was severely beaten by several guards and then shackled. The guards then continued to beat him and seriously wounded his eye. He was not allowed to see a doctor until at least several days after the incident. Other prisoners reported abuse by guards as a way of dealing with the prisoners' hunger strikes and refusals to follow certain instructions. The prison warden himself witnessed an event during which a prisoner was chained after having been beaten unconscious by guards for refusing to wear a shirt. The warden's response to seeing this was unacceptable: he told the shackled prisoner that maybe next time he should listen to the guards and wear a shirt.

Attempts over the past six months by Physicians for Human Rights-Israel to bring these cases, and other examples of abuse, to the attention of the IPS with the hope of effecting change, have not been successful. Even after having sent numerous letters to the relevant people and bodies within the IPS the abuse continues. This abuse is in violation of both Israeli and International Law. Therefore, Physicians for Human Rights-Israel filed the petition to the High Court today through Adv. Yohanna Lerman, who wrote the petition based on information, especially prisoners' testimonies, gathered by the association.

The High Court itself has said in the past on several occasions that the basic human rights of prisoners cannot be revoked. The court noted that simply because their freedom of movement is restricted, due to the very nature of incarceration, and they live behind prison walls- out of sight of the general public- does not mean that the prisoners have lost their human dignity, nor have they lost their basic human rights.

Physicians for Human Rights-Israel calls upon the High Court to instruct the IPS to investigate the claims at once and to immediately end all abuse of prisoners.

The petition (Hebrew only) can be acquired from Physicians for Human Rights-Israel.

Chemtrails And Terror In The Age Of Nuclear War

By Amy Worthington
Idaho Observer

North America is now suffering its seventh year of conspicuous and dangerous aerosol and electromagnetic operations conducted by the U.S. government under the guise of national security. Concerned citizens watch in fear as military tankers discolor the skies with toxic chemicals that morph into synthetic clouds.

We continually witness bizarre meteorological occurrences as powerful electromagnetic devices manipulate both the jet stream and individual storm fronts to create artificial weather and climatic conditions. Black operations projects embedded within these aerosol missions are documented to sicken and disorient select populations with biological test agents and psychotronic mind/mood control technologies.

Part of what is happening in the atmosphere above us involves the Pentagon's secret space weapons program, designed for strategic, operational and tactical levels of war. NASA missions will soon be transferred to Pentagon control.1 The Air Force Space Command declares that, in order to monitor and shape world events, it must fight intense, decisive wars with great precision from space.2 Air Force Secretary James G. Roche has stated: "Space capabilities are integrated with, and affect every link in the kill chain."3

A glimpse into new death technologies under construction4 is in legislation introduced by Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich. His unsuccessful Space Preservation Act of 2001 was intended to ban space deployment of:

* electronic, psychotronic and information weaponry

* high altitude ultra low frequency weapons

* plasma, electromagnetic, sonic and ultrasonic weapons

* laser weapons

* strategic, theater, tactical or extraterrestrial weapons

* chemical biological, environmental climate or tectonic weapons

* chemtrails (this item was stricken from a later version, suggesting duress)

In their quest to remain top dog in the kill chain, the purveyors of perpetual war have deliberately dimmed earth's life-giving sunlight5 and reduced atmospheric visibility6 with lung-clogging particulates and polymers. This ecological terrorism has severely compromised public health, according to thousands of testimonials. Years of mass appeals to legislators, media and military officials for information, and for cessation of catastrophic atmospheric degradation, have fallen on deaf bureaucratic ears. Public awareness of what befalls us remains as murky as our skies because those "in the know" are muzzled by national secrecy laws and Americans have no authority to challenge matters of national security. Left to gather clues, we know this much so far:

1. At least part of the aerosol project has been dubbed Operation Cloverleaf,7 probably due to its multi-faceted operations, which include: weather modification, military communications, space weapons development, ozone and global warming research plus biological weaponry and detection testing.

2. Dumping tons of particulate matter from aircraft has geo-engineered our planetary atmosphere into a highly charged, electrically-conductive plasma useful for military projects.8 The air we breathe is laden with asbestos-sized synthetic fibers and toxic metals, including barium salts, aluminum, and reportedly, radioactive thorium.9 These materials act as electrolytes to enhance conductivity of military radar and radio waves.10 Poisonous on par with arsenic and a proven suppressant of the human immune system,11 atmospheric barium weakens human muscles, including those of the heart.12 Inhaled aluminum goes directly to the brain and medical specialists confirm that it causes oxidative stress within brain tissue, leading to formation of Alzheimer's like neurofibrillary tangles.13 Radioactive thorium is known to cause leukemia and other cancers.14

3. Only a small percentage of the military's atmospheric modification projects are visibly obvious. What we can't see is equally dangerous. The ionosphere, the earth and its inhabitants are continually bombarded with high frequency microwaves used to manipulate the charged atmosphere for weather modification, information gathering and for tectonic (earthquake-producing) weaponry.15 Independent chemtrail researcher Clifford Carnicom confirms that we are also continuously subjected to extremely low electromagnetic frequencies (ELF) pulsing at 4 hertz multiples, frequencies known to profoundly affect human biological and mental functioning.16

4. There is a well-documented biological component to continuously ongoing atmospheric studies in which nations and regions are furtively inoculated via specially designed delivery systems with combinations of viruses, bacteria, fungi, mycoplasma, desiccated blood cells and exotic biological markers so that testmasters can assess human, animal and plant response.17

5. The multi-organizational megalith perpetrating these bio-chem projects against humanity includes the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and its research arm DARPA, plus the Department of Energy (DOE) with its huge network of national labs and universities. Private defense contractors and pharmaceutical companies are heavily involved.18 Cooperating governments of other nations and probably some United Nations agencies are complicit, since the aerosol projects are global in scope.

Gross chemical and electromagnetic pollution is only part of the horrific realities we endure. The sociopaths who brazenly pervert skies, climate and weather for power and profit are the same madmen who have waged four limited nuclear wars since 1991. Radioactive weaponry, declared both illegal and immoral by the entire civilized world, has been used by the Pentagon in Desert Storm, the Balkans campaign and the on-going occupation-wars against Afghanistan and Iraq. Few Americans understand the extent of carnage inflicted in their name across the planet.

By scientific definition, the missiles, tank penetrators and bunker busting bombs unleashed against Iraq and Afghanistan by U.S. and British forces in the so-called war on terror are nuclear weapons.19 Refuse from radioactive weaponry does not disperse, but remains in the atmosphere organotoxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic to all living flesh for 4.5 billion years.

Inhabitants of the Pentagon's two newly "liberated" nations are now slowly dying of radiation and heavy metal poisoning. Victims of U.S. weaponry used in Afghanistan have a concentration of non-depleted uranium isotopes in their bodies never before seen in civilian populations.20 Tons of depleted and non-depleted uranium contaminating their land, air, food and water guarantee their painful demise. Using data from the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), nuclear scientist Leuren Moret calculates that the estimated 2,500+ tons of depleted uranium used against Iraq in 1991 and 2003 is sufficient to cause 25 million new cancers.21 Is it a coincidence that the population of Iraq, according to the CIA, is 25 million?

The quarter million U.S. and British fighting forces who have helped the Pentagon deliver this holocaust also face inevitable radiological death by slow burn. Rotated into atomic war zones since 2001, coalition troops have inhaled and ingested millions of tiny invisible ceramic uranium particles which emit alpha, beta and gamma radiation as they embed in lungs, kidneys, blood, lymph and bone.22 Radiation exposure to a single internalized U-238 (uranium) alpha particle is 50 times the allowable whole body dose for one year under international standards.23 As U-238 decays into daughter isotopes, it becomes ever more radioactive, causing cell and organ destruction to escalate over time.24 Uranium contamination leads to incapacitating, multi-organ system disorders identical to illnesses suffered by thousands of Gulf War I vets. Bodily fluids poisoned with uranium isotopes sicken spouses and visit upon offspring a genetic Armageddon.25

Who knows what a disabled and prematurely dying military population will mean to future stability and safety of USA? Yet Senator Chuck Hagel (R- Neb.) now demands that America provide more fodder for its atomic battlefields by reinstating the military draft so that "all of our citizens...bear some responsibility and pay some price" in order to "understand the intensity of the challenges we face."26

Despite disingenuous denials that biological harm will result from atomic warfare,27 the Pentagon knows full well the gruesome realities of uranium weaponry by virtue of its own voluminous studies spanning 60 years. Pentagon documents confirm that America,s war establishment knowingly exposes its own troops to dangerous levels of radiation.28 The resulting illness of those now returning from the war zones is already making headlines.29

Because our military-industrial overlords brazenly poison the very grunts who make their war games possible, we must logically conclude there is virtually nothing they would not secretly and sadistically do to the rest of us. Military officials lie as perniciously about chemtrail operations30 as they do about effects of DU weaponry. If people were to consider the published science regarding chemtrails and DU, they would understand that we are all in mortal jeopardy.

Both the Pentagon's aerosol operations and its limited nuclear wars are deeply interconnected. We can trace the beginnings of Operation Cloverleaf right to the Strangelove brain of Dr. Edward Teller, father of the hydrogen bomb and proponent of nuking inhabited coast lines to rearrange them for economic projects.31 Before he died in 2003, Teller was director emeritus of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where plans for nuclear, biological and directed energy weapons are crafted. In 1997, Teller publicly outlined his proposal to use aircraft to scatter in the stratosphere millions of tons of electrically-conductive metallic materials, ostensibly to reduce global warming.32

Shortly after Teller's presentation, the public began seeing frenetic chemtrailing. In 2000, CBS News admitted that scientists were "looking at drastic solutions for global warming, including manipulating the atmosphere on a massive scale." CBS confirmed that the plan to load the air with tiny particles would "deflect enough sunlight to trigger global cooling."33

Teller estimated that commercial aircraft could be used to spew these particles at a cost of 33 cents a pound.34 This gives credence to a report by an airline manager, forced by a compulsory non-disclosure agreement to remain anonymous, that commercial aircraft have been co-opted to assist the military in consummating Project Cloverleaf.35 A 1991 Hughes aircraft patent confirms that sunscreen particulate materials can be run through jet engines.36 A science textbook now used in some public schools discusses the sunscreen project by showing a large orange-red jet with the caption, "Jet engines running on richer fuel would add particles to the atmosphere to create a sunscreen." The logo on the plane says "Particle Air."37 The implications of this crucial information should not be understated. A program to make America's millions of annual jet flights a source of specially designed particulate pollution is serious business.

Cloverleaf particles and polymers saturating the air we breathe are smaller than 10 microns (PM 10) and are invisible to the human eye. By comparison, a human hair is 60 to 100 microns in thickness. Scientists and the EPA report that because PM10 and sub-micron pollution particles bypass lung filters and enter the blood stream, they cause radical changes in the endocrine and nervous systems. 38 They can trigger high blood pressure and cause heart attack within two hours of inhalation.39 They cause the blood to become sticky, making it tougher for the heart to pump and increasing the risk of blood clots and vessel damage.40 Now researchers in Taiwan document "a significant increase" in the number of stroke victims when PM10 pollutant levels rise.41 The American Lung Association confirms that we are breathing more toxic air than ever.42 No wonder nationwide asthma rates have been soaring in recent years.43

Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars
This publication marks the 25th anniversary of the Third World War, called the "Quiet War", being conducted using subjective biological warfare, fought with "silent weapons."

Depleted Uranium: Pentagon Poison (2004-05-30)
Deadly radioactivity is drifting in the sands and fertile fields of Iraq, in rain falling in Europe, in breezes that toss palm trees in Vieques, Puerto Rico, in the water of South Korea - the toxic debris of exploded U.S. depleted uranium (DU) shells. The International Action Center continued its historic exposé of this terrible danger with a forum in New York City on May 25, "Poison Dust - Another U.S. War Crime: the Use of Radioactive Weapons in the Gulf."DU is a byproduct of the process used to make nuclear bombs and reactor fuel. Because this metal is 1.8 times denser than lead and burns on impact with steel, bullets and shells made of DU can cut through tank armor like butter.U.S. tanks, Bradley fighting machines, A-10 attack jets and "Apache" helicopters routinely fire DU rounds. When a DU shell hits a target, as much as 70 percent burns on impact, releasing invisible and insoluble uranium oxide, a radioactive dust that people inhale and ingest. CLIP

Uranium Weapons Cover-ups In Our Midst
EXCERPTS: * Relatively small amounts of depleted uranium were used during the first Gulf 'war' yet 58% of US troops who were exposed are now dead.* The USA has systematically destroyed 1000s of military medical records concerning DU deaths of service personnel.* The USA spent $5 billion to decontaminate a firing range of DU - the range only covered 39 square miles.* It is estimated that 28 tons of depleted uranium has been collected for use on strategic targets in the USA and that over the next decade more than 500 tons of depleted uranium will be deployed within the USA.

Break out the bicycles

Oil is running out, but the west would rather wage wars than consider other energy sources,5673,1233738,00.html

George Monbiot

June 8, 2004

Some people have wacky ideas," the new Republican campaign ad alleges. "Like taxing gasoline more so people drive less. That's John Kerry." Cut to a shot of men in suits riding bicycles.

Sadly, the accusation is false. Kerry has been demanding that the price of oil be held down. He wants George Bush to release supplies from the strategic reserve and persuade Saudi Arabia to increase production. He has been warning the American people that if the president doesn't act soon, he and Dick Cheney will have to share a car to work. Men riding bicycles and sharing cars? Is there no end to this madness?

Like the fuel protests that rose and receded in Britain last week, these exchanges are both moronic and entirely rational. The price of oil has been rising because demand for a finite resource is growing faster than supply. Holding the price down means that this resource will be depleted more quickly, with the result that the dreadful prospect of men sharing cars and riding bicycles comes ever closer. Perhaps the presidential candidates will start campaigning next against the passage of time.

But a high oil price means recession and unemployment, which in turn means political failure for the man in charge. The attempt to blame the other man for finity will be one of the defining themes of the politics of the next few decades.

This conflict was exemplified last month by the leader of the British fuel protests of 2000, Brynle Williams. "I'm afraid to say I'm not very proud of what happened three years ago," he admitted in a documentary broadcast on S4C on May 4. "We all want turbo-charged motors now ... but we must remember that it's some poor sod at the other end of the world who ends up paying for it." Five days later, on May 9, he told GMTV that he was ready to start protesting again. Self-awareness and self-interest don't seem to mix very well.

To understand what is going to happen, we must first grasp the core fact of existence. Life is a struggle against entropy. Entropy can be roughly defined as the dispersal of energy. As soon as a system - whether an organism or an economy - runs out of energy, it starts to disintegrate. Its survival depends on seizing new sources of fuel.

Biological evolution is driven by the need to grab the energy for which other organisms are competing. One result is increasing complexity: a tree can take more energy from the sun than the mosses on the forest floor; a tuna can seek out its prey more actively than a jellyfish. But the cost of this complexity is an enhanced requirement for energy. The same goes for our economies.

They evolved in the presence of a source of energy that was both cheap to extract and cheap to use. There is, as yet, no substitute for it. Everything else is either more expensive or harder to use. Without cheap oil the economy would succumb to entropy.

But the age of cheap oil is over. If you doubt this, take a look at the BBC's online report yesterday of a conference run by the Association for the Study of Peak Oil. The reporter spoke to the chief economist of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol. "In public, Mr Birol denied that supply would not be able to meet rising demand ... But after his speech he seemed to change his tune: 'For the time being there is no spare capacity. But we expect demand to increase by the fourth quarter by 3m barrels a day. If Saudi does not increase supply by 3m barrels a day by the end of the year we will face, how can I say this, it will be very difficult. We will have difficult times.'" The reporter asked him whether such a growth in supply was possible, or simply wishful thinking. "'You are from the press?' Birol replied. 'This is not for the press.'" So the BBC asked the other delegates what they thought of the prospects of a 30% increase in Saudi production. "The answers were unambiguous: 'absolutely out of the question'; 'completely impossible'; and '3m barrels - never, not even 300,000'. One delegate laughed so hard he had to support himself on a table." And this was before they heard that two BBC journalists had been gunned down in Riyadh.

The world's problem is as follows. We now consume six barrels of oil for every new barrel we discover. Major oil finds (of over 500m barrels) peaked in 1964. In 2000, there were 13 such discoveries, in 2001 six, in 2002 two and in 2003 none. Three major new projects will come onstream in 2007 and three in 2008. For the following years, none have yet been scheduled.

The oil industry tells us not to worry: the market will find a way of sorting this out. If the price of energy rises, new sources will come onstream. But new sources of what? Every other option is much more expensive than the cheap oil that made our economic complexity possible.

The new technology designed to extract the dregs from old fields is expensive and doesn't seem to work very well, which is why Shell was forced to downgrade its anticipated reserves (other companies, under pressure from the US Securities and Exchange Commission, will surely follow). Extracting oil from tar sands and shales uses almost as much energy as it yields. The same goes for turning crops such as rape into biodiesel. Nuclear power is viable only if you overlook both the massive costs of decommissioning and the fact that no safe means has yet been discovered of disposing of the waste. We could cover the country with windmills and solar panels, but the electricity they produced would still be an expensive means of running our cars.

Just as the oil supply begins to look uncertain, global demand is rising faster than it has done for 16 years. Yesterday morning, General Motors announced that it is spending $3bn on doubling its production of cars for the Chinese market. Seventy-four minutes later, we saw the first signs of entropy: the International Air Travel Association revealed that the airlines are likely to lose $3bn this year because of high oil prices. The cheap carriers complained that they could be forced out of the market.

If the complexity of our economies is impossible to sustain, our best hope is to start to dismantle them before they collapse. This isn't very likely to happen. Faced with a choice between a bang and a whimper, our governments are likely to choose the bang, waging ever more extravagant wars to keep the show on the road. Terrorists, alert to both the west's rising need and the vulnerability of the pipeline and tanker networks, will respond with their own oil wars.

"Every time I see an adult on a bicycle," HG Wells wrote, "I no longer despair for the human race." It's a start, but I'd feel even more confident about our chances of survival if I saw George Bush and Dick Cheney sharing a car to work.

George Bush Medical Bombshell: Brain Damage Drama

(Photo shows US President George Bush with unexplained bruise on his face when he allegedly fell off his couch watching a football game.)

Reports by a White House insider, published on reveal that George W. Bush is suffering from unspecified medical problems, characterized by "seizures" or "ministrokes," possibly due to so-called cocaine stroke.

A former cocaine addict, Bush has exhibited increasingly bizarre behavior in recent years, indicative of brain damage (See:

Bush's mental impairment is held in check by his handler Karl Rove and Dick Cheney has become the defacto president of the United States, according to the insider's report.

Bush's performance at his latest press conference was questioned due to his anomie, characteristic of his being under heavy medication.

Also Bush's unexplained "pretzel" dive and the resulting bruise on his face several years ago are indicative of brain damage.

Medical experts suggest that mental impairment may also be a sign of HIV infection, measurable even from the earliest stages of the disease. Usually referred to as 'AIDS Dementia' it is recognized as fogetfulness and confusion. (

The report from TBR follows in full...

"After Cheney's departure, the notes taken by the President are transcribed by [redacted] and prepared as talking points for the President..."

"At some time in the past, according to both [redacted] and [redacted] the President suffered what one of his aides called "a very minor seizure" and as a result of this, the President has a very difficult time following any unscripted conversations. For this reason, his staff carefully and aggressively protect the President from "unexpected" questions that he is not capable of answering."

"The President takes oral medication at least twice a day according to [redacted] because of an unspecified "indisposition' and this subject is strictly off limits for any casual staff conversation."

"At one point during a staff conference, the President stood up and began to speak in an unknown language. Mr. Rove was able to stop the President and get him to resume his seat. It was reported by [redacted] that for a period of time (about fifteen minutes) after this incident, the President appeared to be 'somewhat confused and very inarticulate.'"

"White House staff members report that they rarely see the President during work hours and that when they do, he is generally accompanied by Mr. Rove and almost never either looks at or speaks to members of the staff. He does not appear to recognize many of the staff members and almost all contact with these individuals are carried out by his close aides, especially by Mr. Rove."

"Bush holds as few meetings with the public, including the press, as possible. We get reams of official papers informing us of this or that new directive. Those of us who have an inside track with the staff are taken to dinner and given the questions to ask Bush. These are questions he has been thoroughly briefed on and has memorized the answers for. Anyone who persists in pushing the envelope gets a rocket from the Rove people and does not get invited back."

"Most of the staff are young, dedicated, almost fanatical, and very, very Christian. The Ten Commandments are in each and every office with nice pictures of Jesus accompanying them. I have chatted up a few of these bright-faced kids and find out that they Love Jesus, Hate Gays, Abortionists, Moslems, Blacks, Catholics, some Jews, all Democrats, Liberals, Hindus, Chinese, Frenchmen, Germans, and now, Spaniards.

"There are daily parades of born-agains into the White House, all chanting the praises of the Lord and Bush, in that order of course. Most of them want all abortionists hung along with gays (the Beltway and the Pentagon would be empty) and godless Muslims and Buddhists. Orwell would have loved this place! Yesterday [redacted] told me in strict confidence of course, that if Diebold didn't reelect George, the Lord would. They all wear miniature US flags on their clothes but under the lapels they have "hidden tokens of the True Faith" and they flip their lapels with knowing smiles when they meet another True Believer.

“In previous administrations, reporters assigned to the White House press corps were very often permitted to speak briefly with the President, either at his request or ours. In the present White House, no one outside of Bush’s personal staff is ever permitted to question him or to speak with him in any other setting than a general press conference (of which he has held only three in four years!). The President enters the briefing room, surrounded by aides. He gives a set speech. Specific questions, known in advance, are asked by favored reporters. The President gives brief answers and then leaves the stage with no other questions ever permitted.”

“[Redacted] has told us that Bush is irrationally fearful of a terrorist attack (as is Cheney) and like Cheney, spends a lot of his time in the White House underground air raid bunker, built years before during the Cold War.”

“I heard Karl Rove say last week (week of March 22nd) that the President never read anything but the Bible. Rove is even more religious than Bush and when the President was drying out from a lifetime of very heavy drinking, Rove got him involved with CBS. No, not the television network but Christian Bible Studies. Bush will do nothing without first consulting Rove and the Bible… in that order. He does not like his father because he felt bullied by him as a young man. Bush Sr. used to criticize Jr. for his serious and chronic drinking and dismal grades at Yale (D-.)”

“Meals or snacks at the Commissary at the White House are dismal affairs. Staff members are almost always deeply engaged in religious conversations and reporters are specifically excluded from speaking with them. Some of them get pretty loud over soup and ice tea so it is not difficult to glean their attitudes. It’s like going to a forum at Bob Jones U, a favorite place for the President.”
