"I read this entire fascinating fourth Matthew book TWICE, in the first 3 days of receiving it. I assure you---if you choose to obtain and read it---you will NOT be disappointed, but rather greatly uplifted and filled with joy and hope for our world and our children's children..."

- "Russ Michael"> - Details on "Voices of the Universe" by Suzanne Ward at

"The real transformative, almost alchemical work is purely invisible and going on right now in the secret alcove of our souls. The Big Shift won't be an outer, sensational occurrence as much as a subtle inner uplifting and yet progressive mind-heart expansion climaxing into a very powerful plateau of global awareness of our Oneness with All That Is. Time being the illusion it is, this cosmic awakening is already vibrant and extant within the very fiber of All That We Are. It is only a matter for us slumbering sparks of God to recognize what has been there all along and no amount of outer action will precipitate that. Just as for the metamorphosing caterpillar in its cocoon, nothing attempted from the outside can accelerate what is naturally occurring through Nature's ever so mysterious ways in the inside."

"Dear Jean, your compilation of 2/7/04 was so very stirring and informative, more so than ever before to me. I have been a Karmic Astrologer for many years now, so the writings by Kiara and the information about Venus were so wonderful to me, that I had to write and say thank you so much for your very insightful, thoughtful messages. I want to thank you so much for your total dedication to your purpose. I read every paper you send, and when I can't sit at my computer and read them, I copy them off and take them to the gym with me to read while walking on the treadmill. Thank you again and again, Cathy in Tampa, Florida, USA."

Ralph Nader Announces Another Bid for White House (Feb 22)
Consumer advocate Ralph Nader says he is entering the U.S. presidential race. Mr. Nader said he is running because, "there's too much power and wealth in too few hands." He said he would run as an independent candidate. Democratic Party leaders immediately denounced Mr. Nader's decision. New Mexico state governor Bill Richardson said on Fox News that it was the result of personal vanity, and that neither the Green Party nor Mr. Nader's own friends want him to run again. Mr. Nader won less than three percent of the national vote in the 2000 election. But Democrats accuse him of taking enough support from their candidate, Al Gore, to hand the contest to President Bush, especially in the crucial state of Florida. Mr. Nader has insisted that Mr. Gore had only himself to blame for the loss. CLIP

Transcript of Tim Russert's interview with Ralph Nader on Meet The Press (Feb 22)
(...) The problem is that the corporate government remains in Washington, whether it's Democrats or Republicans. The military industrial complex, as Eisenhower pointed out, is getting bigger and devouring half of the federal budget's discretionary expenditure. And we have no major enemy left in the world, no Soviet Union, no Communist China. The corporate lobbyists are still swarming over Congress. Money is still pouring in from corporate interests. Washington is corporate-occupied territory, and the two parties are ferociously competing to see who's going to go to the White House and take orders from their corporate pay masters. So they may be different in their mind, they may be different in their attention, they may be different in their rhetoric. But in the actual performance these corporate interests and their political allies are taking America down. They're taking our country apart: massive poverty, massive child poverty, massive consumer debt, environmental devastation. CLIP

Statement of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund President Rodger Schlickeisen on Ralph Nader - "In the last three years, the Bush administration has mounted arguably the greatest assault on our conservation laws ever seen. Mr. Nader's entry into the presidential race only increases the likelihood that assault will continue for a second term. It is monumentally irresponsible for Ralph Nader, who professes a reverence for our natural environment, to take any step that aids the President's re-election bid. "The Bush administration's environmental policy has been a boon for the big oil, gas, and timber industries. Clean air and clean water laws have been rolled back. National forests have been opened to increased logging and public lands to more oil drilling. The framework of laws protecting our wildlife and habitat have been all but dismantled. Time and again, the President has placed the needs of corporate special interests ahead of the needs of our environment. "The damage the President has done to the environment far outweighs the gains Mr. Nader made in this area during his career. Free from the threat of electoral defeat, a second term for the President could spell disaster on many of the issues Mr. Nader claims to hold dear. "I urge Mr. Nader to please reconsider his decision; the harm done by his candidacy could far outpace any gains."

National Debt Tops $7 Trillion (February 18, 2004);jsessionid=LAUVLFOCLHL3ACRBAEZSFEY?type=businessNews&storyID=4388476
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government's national debt -- the accumulation of past budget shortfalls -- totaled more than $7 trillion for the first time as of Tuesday, according to a Treasury Department report. In its daily financial statement released on Wednesday, the Treasury said the U.S. debt subject to a congressionally set limit totaled $7.015 trillion, up from $6.983 trillion on Friday. The government was closed on Monday for the Presidents Day holiday. While passing the $7 trillion mark itself has little practical significance, not unlike a car's odometer rolling over, it may signal some tough political times for President Bush's administration on fiscal policy. The government debt ceiling stands only a few hundred billion dollars ahead at $7.384 trillion, and Treasury would need Congress's blessing to borrow beyond that. Treasury officials say they expect the limit to be hit sometime between June and October. And in this election year, Democrats may also use the $7 trillion figure to assail Bush's tax policy and the federal deficits on his watch. Budget shortfalls are met by borrowing. In 2003, the federal budget gap was a record $374.25 billion and a larger one is expected this fiscal year. Bush blames the deficits on a sluggish economy and needed spending on security and defense. Rep. Baron Hill of Indiana, part of a centrist group of Democrats said, "It is simply immoral to run a national debt exceeding $7 trillion, every penny of which our children and grandchildren will be responsible for paying back." Case Set to Be Dropped Against UK Mole Who Blew Whistle on US Bugging (Feb 20)
The prosecution is preparing to abandon the case against a former GCHQ employee charged with leaking information about a "dirty tricks" spying operation before the invasion of Iraq, the Guardian has learned. Katharine Gun, 29, is due to appear at the Old Bailey next week where she has said she will plead not guilty to breaking the Official Secrets Act. She has said her alleged disclosures exposed serious wrongdoing by the US and could have helped to prevent the deaths of Iraqis and British forces in an "illegal war". The case is potentially hugely embarrassing for the government and would open up GCHQ operations to unwelcome publicity. Also damaging and politically threatening is her plan to seek the disclosure of the full advice from the attorney general, Lord Goldsmith, on the legality of the war against Iraq. CLIP

Press freedom under fire (Feb 16)
If the first casualty of war is truth, then the War on Terror has dealt a body blow to those trying to get at the bottom of the story: journalists. The press watchdog Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF) has noted a sharp jump in attacks on journalists internationally, and not just in high-profile cases such as the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. In 2002, a full 1,420 journalists were kidnapped, beaten or detained across the globe, and RSF concludes, "The fight against terrorism launched by the United States and its allies after the 11 September attacks damaged freedom of the press. Many governments stepped up and justified their repression of opposition or independent voices using anti-terrorism as an excuse." In particular, the U.S. military is under fire for its treatment of journalists in Iraq. An RSF report entitled "Two Murders and a Lie" details the April 8, 2003 attack by U.S. forces on Baghdad's Palestine Hotel, which left two journalists dead and three injured.

Government considering dismantling BBC (Feb 15)

A devastating new bill has been introduced in West Virginia. It is SB439, introduced by Senator Prezioso of Marion County and Senator Minard of Harrison County. This bill will remove physicians' ability to exercise individual judgment for their patients, by forcing them to grant medical exemptions for only "commonly accepted practices." This is tantamount to the government practicing medicine without a license. As written, the bill will also require that all children in West Virginia be vaccinated, whether they attend school or are homeschooled, with no recourse for exemptions. Homeschoolers in all 50 states have always been able to choose not to vaccinate. They either are exempt from mandatory vaccination required to attend school, and/or they are offered religious exemptions. This bill will make WV the first state in which homeschoolers have no choice. If passed, the bill will force all West Virginians who do not wish to vaccinate to move another state. It presents an unprecedented attack on parental choice and religious freedom. It is not only an insult to Free Mountaineers, but it treads on all rights we hold dear in America. CLIP - Go at to see how you may help. The time to act is now. With MEHPA and the Homeland Security Act, if the state or federal gov't declare a health emergency, we can be forced to take vaccinations or be quarantined or fined regardless of exemption. The time to stand up to protect our rights against mandatory vaccinations is now.

Great Barrier Reef corals mostly dead by 2050, says Australian study (Feb 21)
The brightly-coloured corals that make Australia's Great Barrier Reef one of the world's natural wonders will be largely dead by 2050 because of rising sea temperatures, according to a report released Saturday. Instead of the rich environment depicted in the recent movie Finding Nemo, the coral reef will be bleached out and replaced by ordinary seaweed, costing the tourism industry billion of dollars, the report into the impact of global warming says. Authors Hans and Ove Hoegh-Guldberg -- the head of Queensland University's marine studies centre and his economist father -- spent two years examining the effects of rising sea temperature on the reef for Queensland tourism authorities and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). Their 350-page report found no prospect of avoiding the "chilling long-term eventualities" of coral bleaching because greenhouse gases were already warming the seas as part of a process it said would take decades to stop. "Coral cover will decrease to less than five percent on most reefs by the middle of the century under even the most favourable assumptions," the report said. "This is the only plausible conclusion if sea temperatures continue to rise." Warmer sea waters make corals suffer thermal stress, eventually making them bleach and die. The report said this could occur if temperatures increased by as little as one degree centigrade, well below the two to six degrees water temperatures around the reef are expected to rise by over the next century. CLIP

The White Death (February 19),12374,1150928,00.html
They call it bleaching, but the fact is our coral reefs are frying. Tim Radford reports - When a coral gets into hot water, the shock makes it go white and die. Biologists call this effect "bleaching". It is not a metaphor. Just as the bubonic plague became known as the Black Death because it left blackened corpses all over medieval Europe, so coral bleaching is a kind of White Death because it leaves bleached bones and pallid dying tissue all over the tropics. Global warming is part of the story but not the whole story. Corals have survived warming episodes not just in the past 3,000 years of human history but also - on the evidence of cores drilled from the reefs - the past 420,000 years. There are all sorts of pressures on coral: pollution, tourism, overfishing, river run-off choked with silt and nutrients, invasive species and so on. But global warming could be the last straw. In the past 20 years, in a series of hot summers, corals started to turn white and die. Up to 25% of the reefs have now been destroyed, and more than half of all coral atolls, reefs and cays will be devastated beyond repair in the next 30 years, according to Richard Aronson, of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab in Alabama. Meltdown (Feb 14),12374,1146859,00.html
Alaska is a huge oil producer and has become rich on the proceeds. But it has suffered the consequences: global warming, faster and more terrifyingly than anyone could have predicted. (...) Just 150km shy of the Arctic circle, Fairbanks in mid-December has only three hours of daylight. The sun doesn't really come up at all - it just skirts along the horizon, as if entangled in the icy peaks of the Alaska Range, before plunging back down south and leaving Fairbanks in frigid night. Temperatures regularly plummet to -40C. Or at least they used to. In recent winters, temperatures have reached -30C for only a couple of days, Curtis told me, while in previous decades they had remained at -40C for months at a time. And similar stories come from all over the state. The reason is simple: Alaska is baking. Temperatures in the state - as in much of the Arctic - are rising 10 times faster than in the rest of the world. And the effects are so dramatic that entire ecosystems are beginning to unravel, as are the lifestyles of the people who depend on them. In many ways, Alaska is the canary in the coal mine, showing the rest of the world what lies ahead as global warming accelerates. (...) In Fairbanks, the rising temperatures were having a dramatic impact. Much of the area is underlain by permafrost - permanently frozen ground - that now, for the first time in thousands of years, is beginning to thaw. As a result, houses are sagging, roads are collapsing and entire buildings are being swallowed up by holes in the ground. (...) Permafrost degradation is one of the clearest signals that something unprecedented is happening in the far north. In Siberian cities, hundreds of tall buildings have begun to subside and crack. In Alaska, whole sections of coastline are breaking off and falling into the sea, as the ice, which has kept cliffs solid for centuries, begins to melt. More than half a kilometre has eroded from some stretches of coastline over the past few decades. CLIP

It has an eerie beauty about it, but it is probably destined to reopen a national debate about public safety. Richard Box took 1,300 fluorescent light bulbs - the strip type you find in practically every office in the land - and stuck them in a field just off the A46. Unlinked, and unpowered by any conventional source, row upon sentinel row begin to glow as dusk sets in. The source of their energy: "spare" electricity just floating around in the air around the electric pylons which dot our countryside. Richard Box is an artist, and his electro-show is certainly eye-catching. But it is no fanciful whim which has prompted him to put this creation together. Mr Box works with the Department of Physics at Bristol University, where he is "artist in residence"; the co-creator of his astonishing field of light is none other than the university's Professor Dennis Henshaw. Prof Henshaw is a world-renowned authority on pylons and power lines, and has written several papers on what effect these eyesore structures - or, more accurately, their ambient electricity - have on the people who live below or near them. (...) This spectacular attention-grabber is an inspired move in the scientists' quest to further focus public attention on the question of power lines and their effects. Prof Henshaw's department has raised the possibility of risks associated with long-term exposure to magnetic and electromagnetic forces, which they claim raise the risk of leukaemia in children, adult brain tumours, depression and miscarriage, and other disorders.

Subject: Censure President Bush

Dear friend,

In an attempt to escape responsibility for the misleading statements that led the nation to war, President Bush has announced plans to form an independent inquiry to look into what went wrong. An inquiry would serve the Bush administration well: it would envelop the issue in a fog of uncertainty, deflect blame onto the intelligence services, and push any political damage into 2005, after the upcoming election.

But the facts need no clarification. Despite repeated warnings from the CIA and Defense Intelligence Agency, President Bush and his administration hyped and distorted the threat that Iraq posed. And now that reality is setting in, the President seeks to pin the blame on someone else. We can't let him.

Congress has the power to censure the President -- to formally reprimand him for his betrayal of the nation's trust. If ever there was a time to use this function, it is now. Join the call for Congress to censure President Bush now at:

Disarm Saddam Hussein

The gravest danger we face in the war on terror is outlaw regimes that seek and possess nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.

* Twelve years ago, Saddam Hussein agreed to disarm all weapons of mass destruction. For 12 years, he systematically violated that agreement.
* Three months ago, the United Nations Security Council gave Saddam his final chance to disarm. He has shown his utter contempt for the U.N.
* The U.N. and U.S. intelligence sources have known for some time that Saddam Hussein has materials to produce chemical and biological weapons, but he has not accounted for them:
* 26,000 liters of anthrax—enough to kill several million people
* 38,000 liters of botulinum toxin
* 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agents
* Almost 30,000 munitions capable of delivering chemical agents
* From three Iraqi defectors, we know that Iraq in the late 1990s had several mobile biological weapons labs. But he has not disclosed them.
* The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed in the 1990s that Saddam Hussein had an advanced nuclear weapons development program, a design for a nuclear weapon, and was working on methods of enriching uranium for a nuclear bomb. He recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa, according to the British Government. He has attempted to purchase high strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons, according to our intelligence sources. Yet he has not credibly explained these activities.
* Thousands of Iraqi security personnel are at work hiding documents and materials from the UN inspectors.
* Iraqi officials accompany all inspectors in order to intimidate witnesses.
* Iraq is blocking U-2 surveillance flights requested by the U.N.
* Saddam Hussein has ordered that scientists who cooperate with the UN be killed, along with their families.
* Saddam Hussein aids and protects terrorists, including al-Qaida members. He could provide hidden weapons to terrorists, or help them develop their own. It would take just one vial, one canister, one crate slipped into this country to bring a day of horror like none we have ever known.

The United States will ask the UN Security Council to convene next week to consider the facts of Iraq’s ongoing defiance of the world. We will consult. But if Saddam Hussein does not disarm, we will act for the safety of our people, and for the peace of the world.

NOTE: I accessed at this page above the link to the latest presidential Executive orders and, out of curiosity, read some of them:

At I read:

Executive Order Appointments During National Emergency

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code, and in order to further respond to the national emergency I declared in Proclamation 7463 of September 14, 2001, I hereby order as follows:

Section 1. Emergency Appointments Authority. The emergency appointments authority at section 603 of title 10, United States Code, is invoked and made available to the Secretary of Defense in accordance with the terms of that statute and of Executive Order 12396 of December 9, 1982.

Sec. 2. Judicial Review. This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by a party against the United States, its departments, agencies, entities, officers, employees or agents, or any person.

Sec. 3. Administration. This order shall be transmitted to the Congress and published in the Federal Register.

December 17, 2003.

Huh! Pretty obscure. Still curious to see what this all means I checked what Executive Order 12396 was all about

Executive Order 12396
Defense officer personnel management

* Signed: December 9, 1982
* Federal Register page and date: 47 FR 55897; December 13, 1982
* Amends: EO 10621, July 1, 1955; EO 11390, January 22, 1968
* Revokes: EO 12239, September 21, 1980
* See: EO 13321, December 17, 2003

And I also found the following intro at

"Homeland Security Presidential Directive Hspd-8, December 17, 2003, Subject: National Preparedness: Homeland Security Presidential Directive/Hspd-8, December 17, 2003, Subject: National Preparedness. This directive establishes policies to strengthen the preparedness of the United States to respond to threatened or actual domestic terrorist attacks, major disasters, and other emergencies."

Obviously, unless one is very patient to discover what hides under all this, it is nearly impossible to really grasp the real consequences of this transfer of power, in case of a national emergency, to Ronald Rumsfeld to appoint whomever he likes to unspecified roles in the US administration. But somehow, I have a hunch that this is a much more ominous development, considering the recent suggestion by retired general Franks (who directed the invasion of Iraq) that if there is another major terrorist attack (read secret blackop concocted by the Shadow government), martial law would be imposed and a military government established in the U.S. Perhaps the election of elite-controlled Skull and Bones' aficionado John Kerry will prevent that from happening, but then perhaps the neocons may panic at the prospect of losing power and will commit the unthinkable high treason of dismantling democracy in the U.S. ... All that sounds very iffy, admittedly, yet in view of all that is brewing, it could be perilous to ignore such a possibility and thus the fact that this December 17 Executive order could be in preparation for this plot.

Shedding as much light as possible onto such possible preparations would seem like the best way to put enough sand in their gears to stall such a scheme long enough to bring about real, deep changes - next November, hopefully. If anyone has more on this, I'd be interested to receive whatever you discover.

Jean... For an off-planet perspective, here's what Matthew said.

In haste, with love...

Feb 20, 2004

S: Matthew, as I was reading that email from Jean, you said you have a comment.

MATTHEW: Yes, Mother, I do, even though it is not addressing only those executive orders. From the beginning, presidential directives for handling national emergencies have had the same aim: federal control that extinguishes constitutional and God-given rights. Never has assistance to those who need help been the reason for establishing FEMA, although that agency’s personnel pop up in natural disaster areas to keep this pretense somewhat credible. The Patriot Act and Homeland Security are obvious attempts to bring a dictator and police state upon the nation, much like the US government has long supported in many other countries.

Your world is moving into higher frequencies where those global, not only national, domination aims of the elite group of controllers never will come to pass; however, it cannot be realistically expected that they will make no further major efforts to retain and extend their powers. They will. The same folks who decry global terrorism and claim to be making the world a safer place by pointing fingers at the “guilty” are the very ones behind the major terrorist activities. The more that this is being exposed or even speculated, the more they fear losing their dark control and thus the more desperate and blatant their acts to hold onto it.

We have told you that violence and bloodshed will continue until Earth has reached the level of vibrations where the darkness is vanquished, and she is steadily moving toward that plane along with all whose minds and hearts are in the light. We have said, too, that no nuclear detonations in space will be permitted and that extraterrestrial technology that already has thwarted such efforts also is ameliorating the effects of other vileness such as chemtrails; depleting uranium, which is not at all depleted; and manmade quakes, storms and volcanic eruptions. The same would hold true for any attempts toward mass annihilation by means of biological or chemical warfare.

But please do not have concerns about any need for that becoming likely. Regardless of what your government reports, the means for extensive use of such weaponry is available only to the controlling cabal, and they are not about to use it. Consider: How could they protect themselves and their minions evermore against its effects? How could they protect the many millions they need to produce everything from their food to their computers and provide their health care, transportation, even their custom-made tailoring? Teach what they want taught, defend what they need defended, or even tend their landscaping?

However, widespread talk of the lethal consequences of such warfare, by its favored name of weapons of mass destruction, cannot help but create fear. As intended! The energy of fear is incompatible with the energy of light, and as long as enough fear can be generated to keep souls from absorbing light, the elitist controllers think they win. They don’t and they won’t, but in their stubbornness and fear, they cannot comprehend that accepting the light, which is beaming more intensely in each moment, would not be their downfall—it would be their saving grace.

Autism linked to preservative in common childhood vaccines Alarmed
U.S. researchers peg mercury-based chemical as 'smoking gun' (Feb 5)
Vaccines for routine immunization of children in Canada have been available without thimerosal since March 2001. OTTAWA -- Scientists have found what they believe could be a "smoking gun" linking vaccines to autism and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in children. In a study that was rushed to print online today -- two months ahead of its scheduled publication in the journal Molecular Psychiatry -- U.S. researchers have discovered an apparent link between thimerosal, a controversial mercury-based preservative once commonly used in childhood vaccines, and an increased risk of neurological disorders such as autism and ADHD. While most vaccines distributed in Canada have been thimerosal-free since the late 1990s, the preservative was used in the annual flu shot that doctors recommended this year for even healthy children. The study could account for the rising rates of autism since the early 1980s, when more thimerosal-containing shots were added to a child's vaccine schedule, says investigator Dr. Richard Deth, a professor of pharmacology at Northeastern University in Boston. A recent review of vaccine-related "adverse events" in the U.S. found a "significant correlation" between shots containing thimerosal and autism, the researchers report.

Hi Glenn

This below could be the reason - perhaps the Vancouver Sun has been threatened to pull it off so they may not add fuel to this controversy.... Interesting though that it happened right after I networked it. This whole issue will probably lead to litigations and penalties probably far worse that what the tobacco industry had to pay, because if pre-existing knowledge of these potential neurological damages can be proven in court, the resulting damages to be paid by these pharmaceutical giants could possibly bankrupt them.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention ;-)

Class Action Lawsuits Filed in British Columbia Against Merck Frosst Canada and Glaxosmithkline and Aventis Pasteur for Injuries Caused by Thimerosal

Two class action lawsuits were filed yesterday in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against on behalf of British Columbia residents who were injured by the organic mercury compound Thimerosal.

The first class action was filed by Jaqueline Chamberlain of Sooke, British Columbia, on behalf of her infant son, Aaron, who suffered neurological damage after receiving two doses of the DPT vaccine, containing Thimerosal, manufactured by Aventis Pasteur Limited/Aventis Pasteur Limitee.

Aaron was born a perfectly normal, healthy boy. He demonstrated social, language, cognitive, behavioral and physical skills appropriate for his age. At about 1 years of age, after receiving the DPT Vaccine, he became unresponsive, withdrawn, slow in speech development, developed repetitive behaviors and an obsessive-compulsive disorder. Aaron was diagnosed with autism at age 5 and now ten years old still has limited language and social skills.

The second class action was filed by Elias Soursos of Richmond, British Columbia, on behalf of his infant son, Niko, who began to display symptoms of neurological damage after receiving 3 shots of the hepatitis B vaccines, containing Thimerosal, manufactured by Merck Frosst Canada & Co. and Glaxosmithkline Inc.

Niko was born a perfectly normal, healthy boy. Before the Vaccine injections Niko achieved every developmental milestone expected of all normally developing children physically, neurologically and socially. At approximately 1 years of age after receiving 3 shots of hepatitis B Vaccines, Niko began to display signs of neurological damage, became more distant and lost all language skills that he had acquired and became non-verbal and developed self-stimming behaviors. Niko was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2 years old.

According to the Statements of Claim, filed today in Vancouver, British Columbia, Aventis Pasteur, Merck Frosst Canada and Glaxosmithkline knew or reasonably should have known of the neurotoxic effects of the mercury contained in Thimerosal in the Vaccines. Mercury poisoning is well documented in medical literature and the developing neurological systems of infants are particularly vulnerable. The Defendants developed tested, manufactured, licensed, distributed, marketed, supplied and/or sold the Vaccines with the knowledge that they would be injected into infants.

The lawsuits were filed on behalf of Aaron and Niko by class action lawyer David Klein of Klein Lyons of Vancouver. According to Klein "the Defendants failed to communicate the dangerous nature of the Vaccines to the public, and must be held accountable for their negligence. It may be too late for Aaron and Niko but Thimerosal has been taken out of all routine vaccines for infants in Canada".

SEAFLOW ACTION ALERT -- Yucatan Air Gun Survey

Dear Community Members,

This sort of snuck up on us, so I apologize for the short notice, but we have another grass-fire burning that could use our collective attention.

The National Science Foundation is funding a program to survey the Chicxulub Crater, formed when a massive meteor collided with the earth into the area that is now the ocean off of the Yucatan Peninsula. This event is considered the "smoking gun" implicated in the massive extinction event at the Cretaceous-Tertiary period. The purpose of the seismic survey is to study the geological implications of this impact.

This research is being executed by the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) and involves a one month regime of deploying explosive Air Gun arrays through a 3000 square mile area in the ocean north of Yucatan, Mexico. The proposal involves tens-of-thousands to hundreds-of-thousands of air gun blasts, with a source level of 255dB (re:1uPA).

LDOE has applied to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) for an "Incidental Harassment Authorization" (IHA) that involves among other things, permission to subject Dolphins, Whales, and other marine mammals, and turtles, and invertebrates such as coral, jellies, and larval forms of many other critters to well over ten thousand noise blasts in excess of 160dB (re: 1uPA) and even thousands of exposures in excess of 170dB.

This research will also expose all other animals in the area to equal or louder exposures. These animals include fish, sharks, sea teaming in these tropical waters. The discussion of these other animals in the authorization request is only in reference to the impact on marine mammal habitat (depletion of food stocks) and not in terms of the animals in their own right.

We feel that this program is reckless, and flies in the face of what we know about marine animal's dependence on sound, and in the context of precaution, it flies in the face of what we don't know about the ocean bio-acoustic environment.

With the plummeting populations of sea creatures throughout the world's oceans, examining a 65 million year old crater using environmentally damaging technologies seems foolish. Knowing as little as we do about how sea animals use sound, it could be suicidal. It would be a sad irony if the research on this crater -- and the air gun technology that it employs, becomes one of the "smoking guns" for the mass extinctions of our own period.

What to do?

At this moment we do not have any pending legal support to halt the research. If we let those in the approval path know that we are monitoring their behavior, they may back off to prevent legal action. We need to let those responsible know that as taxpayers, we do not support this project, and that we will pursue shutting the program down with any and all methods available.

We should let them know of our disapproval in no uncertain terms.
Please feel free to use any text in this Action Alert as you see fit. A few talking points are as follows:

* The permit should be denied on the basis that the value of any information derived from the research does not warrant such a broad level of marine mammal harassment -- or extensive taking, maiming or killing of any animals in the research area.
* The permit should be denied and the program halted until we understand the full impacts of airgun blasting on sharks and invertebrates.
* The permit should be denied and the program halted until we understand the intermediate and long-term impacts of airgun blasting on exposed fish populations.
* The permit should be denied and the program halted until we understand the full impacts of airgun blasting on the eggs and larvae of shallow water animals.
* The program should be halted because we can only surmise the accumulated physiological damage to the marine mammals exposed to the airgun blasts.
* The program should be halted because we can only surmise the impact of stress and psychological damage to the exposed marine mammals over time.
* The statement in the IHA that the MMPA does not apply to research done in Mexico's Exclusive Economic Zone is incorrect because American Tax Dollars are funding US Taxpayer owned assets under the administration of US Tax-funded research institutions. As a Taxpayer, [tell them that] you do not appreciate their attempts to sidestep American laws under the flimsy pretext that the actions are taking place outside of US jurisdiction.
* Due to controversy and potential for controversy, the action requires a full Environmental Impact Statement, not just an Environmental Assessment.
* The sheer numbers of animals subject to harassment should warrant greater authorization than the Incidental Harassment Authorization

You might begin the letter as:

Dear ______:

We recently learned that the National Science Foundation is seeking approval for an Incidental Harassment Authorization to subject marine mammals and other animals in a 3000 square mile area to two months of airgun blasting. We request that you deny this authorization because… [you can incorporate some of the talking points here.]

Who to contact?

Please also notify your legislators that this is happening and that you are concerned.
Please also let your friends, family and kin in other states and countries know; forward this document on to them and ask them to call or contact their legislators as well. The more static that we can generate in the next week the more likely we will be able to stop this unwise and reckless program.

We will post the Incidental Harassment Authorization (IHA) and the Environmental Assessment (EA) on the Seaflow Website at the following address:

Thanks for helping out.

Subject: IMPORTANT Revelations re: Kerry (AKA Kohn)
From: "Barbara Peck">

Dear Jean:

Please get this information out as far and wide as possible and make it prominent in your newsletter, if you can.

It appears that Bush and Kerry are two sides of the same coin - members of the Skull and Bones Club - also, Kerry changed his name from Kohn - so, he's not Irish although he may want us to believe he is - and is related to Bush!

(Go to: for discussion on this topic.)

We HAVE to let the American public know they are being duped - yet again!

"Kucinich is the only good choice. Kerry was a member of the notorious Skull and Bones club at Yale which means he took an oath of secrecy much in the same way that George W. Bush, his father and his grandfather did - do we want another 'Bonesman' in the White House?

Here's another revealing link:

You will note Bush and Kerry are both listed. Birds of a feather flock together. Kerry is a bad choice. The same machine but more palatable than Bush but still connected. This is why Dennis Kucinich would be a supremely better choice for president if you really want a change for the better.

Get the big boys out! The corporate media's sales and marketing are giving you the same thing but with a different face. Too many alliances with the big boys who are controlling the US.

Time to get smart and vote for Kucinich and break the mold; then justice may just become a reality."

Subject: The Soul Catcher chip implant
Date: 21 Feb 2004

In all my years of experience this has to be the most horrifying concept I have ever heard of. I feel truly sick when I read of what they intend. Words do not express the horror and potential of this diabolical research.

Source: The Electronic Telegraph (England).

From CNI News:

"Soul Catcher Computer Chip Due"

A computer chip implanted behind the eye that could record a person's every lifetime thought and sensation is to be developed by British scientists.

"This is the end of death" said Dr. Chris Winter, of British Telecom's artificial life team. He predicted that within three decades it would be possible to relive other people's lives by playing back their experiences on a computer. "By combining this information with a record of the person's genes, we could recreate a person, physically, emotionally and spiritually."

Dr Winter's team of eight scientists at BT's Martlesham Heath Laboratories near Ipswich calls the chip the, `Soul Catcher.' It would be possible to imbue a new-born baby with a lifetime's experiences by giving him or her the Soul Catcher chip of a dead person Dr Winter said. The proposal to digitize existence is based on a solid calculation of how much data the brain copes with over a lifetime.

Ian Pearson, BT's official futureologist, has measured the flow of impulses from the optical nerve and nerves in the skin, tongue, ear and nose. Over an 80 year life, we process 10 terrabytes of data; equivilant to the storage capacity of 7,142,857,142,860,000 floppy discs.

Dr Pearson said, " If current trends in the miniaturization of computer memory continues at the rate of the past 20 years-a factor of 100 every decade-today's 8 megabyte memory chip norm will be able to store 10 terrabytes in 30 years."

British Telecom would not divulge how much money it is investing in the project, but Dr Winter said it was taking `Soul Catcher 2025' very seriously. he admitted there were profound ethical considerations, but emphasised that BT were embarking on this line of research to enable them to remain in the forefront of communications technology.

"An implanted chip would be like an aircraft's black box and would enhance communications beyond current concepts," he said. "For example, police would be able to use it to relive an attack, rape or murder from the victim's viewpoint to help catch the criminal."
Other applications would be less useful but more frightening.

Sarvodaya Means "Everybody Wakes Up"

Essays on The Great Turning by Joanna Macy

EarthLight Magazine #45, Spring 2002

I return from Sri Lanka where I saw how a country, devastated by civil war, can proceed to reunite and rebuild. Sarvodaya - the name means "everybody wakes up" - is a Buddhist-inspired community development movement active in well over 12,000 villages in all parts of the island republic. Its campaign for peace, moving into high gear with the fragile but promising ceasefire signed in January, aims to restore not only interethnic harmony, but also the bases for economic wellbeing. These two are inseparable in Sarvodayan eyes, along with respect for the land and for the human spirit. Having loved and learned from this movement for twenty-six years, I flew to be on hand for the event of March 15th, a mammoth peace meditation kicking off their "village-to-village, heart-to-heart" link-up program. I come back with these lessons:

1) Affirm and nourish the spiritual roots of action

By midday on March 15th figures in white filled the paths toward the great stupas and were pouring onto the grounds of the sacred ancient city of Anuradhapura. Walking along with them, I could not tell from which side of Sri Lanka's civil war these pilgrims came. No placards or shouted slogans proclaimed their identities, but place names on the busses parked back on the periphery gave a clue. They came from Hindu Tamil and Buddhist Sinhalese areas that had been pitted against each other for the last nineteen years, in a war that has cost 65,000 lives, wrecked the economy, and traumatized a generation of Sri Lankans.

This was Peace Samadhi Day, organized by Sarvodaya in support of the ceasefire recently negotiated with Norwegian help between the Sinhalese-identified government and the secessionist LTTE or Tamil Tigers. Over the last year and a half, Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne, Sarvodaya's founder, had convened public peace meditations to change the "psychosphere." These gatherings let ordinary people at the grassroots level demonstrate and deepen their desire to end the war. Now, despite counsel from more cautious minds, he had reached for something huge: a meditation to include a half a million people. And despite a grenade attack on the Ariyaratne home, right before the event and just outside my bedroom, the event went forward. In what might well be the largest meditation for peace in the history of the world, 650,000 people took part.

Sitting on the grass as far as the eye could see, they made the biggest silence I ever heard. After prayers from Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim clerics, and in the intervals between Dr. Ariyaratne's words, guiding us in mindfulness of breath, in lovingkindness and firm resolve for peace, the silence deepened. I thought: this is the sound of bombs and landmines not exploding, of rockets not launched and machine guns laid aside. It is possible, for us all.

2) Have practical actions people can undertake together

That day, off to the side by the ancient bodhi tree, a ceremony inaugurated Sarvodaya's Link-Up program. A thousand villages in the more devastated Tamil areas are paired with a thousand in the Sinhalese areas. The latter will bring materials and skilled and unskilled labor, so that both parties can work together to rebuild homes and schools, wells and toilets and places of worship destroyed in the fighting. I heard of a village in the South, that, just on hearing of this program, immediately loaded two lorries with roofing materials to take north.

Today, to symbolize this partnership, a village from each side had been selected, and after the temple bell was rung-at the precise moment bells were rung that day across Sri Lanka, young people from each of these two villages came forward. They bore round trays of special, festive food they had prepared, and they fed each other.

The plates were then passed among the rest of us gathered there. Even if the ceasefire is sabotaged, I want to remember that taste of sweet rice and coconut. It told me that this is what we really want, most of all. To stop the fighting and feed each other.

3) To build enduring peace, restore the land

Sarvodaya's peace plan includes grassroots development strategies for the dry zones, the most economically hard-pressed areas of Sri Lanka. It features locally generated energy from biomass as well as sustainable irrigation, soil renewal, and the community-controlled microcredit schemes the Movement has pioneered in the last decade.

The aim of the Movement, as ever, is a "no poverty, no affluence" society to reduce the disparity between rich and poor brought about by late capitalism and corporate globalization. The priority placed on care for the land reminds me of Sarvodaya's list of Basic Human Needs, the very first of which is "a safe and beautiful environment."

4) Think long-term

Peace does not happen with the signing of documents; the effects of war continue to fester far into the future, often to erupt again in violence. Sarvodaya points out that the seeds of Sri Lanka's civil war were planted 500 years ago with European colonization, and estimates that its healing will require an equal amount of time. So the peace plan it brings embraces the next 500 years.

To give you a rough idea: Five years to put Dry Zone development measures in place; ten years to resettle all the refugees; fifty years to achieve the lowest poverty rate in the world and abolish Sri Lanka's standing army. The vision continues beyond that: By 2100, Sri Lanka becomes "the first country to eliminate poverty, both economic and spiritual." By the year 2500, "Global climate warming may cause changes to Sri Lankan environment; but because of the history of working together over hundreds of years, these changes will not be disasters. In 500 years, people might be living on other planets; however, Sri Lanka will retain their image of Paradise on Earth."

I think of the tightrope walker who, to maintain her balance and move steadily forward, must raise her eyes, keep looking ahead. When we do that in our work for peace and justice, when we feel our connections to future generations, we can stay steady and determined, despite the immediate challenges we face. My friends in the Sarvodaya Movement have shown that we ordinary humans are capable of that.

Now the Pentagon tells Bush: climate change will destroy us

· Secret report warns of rioting and nuclear war
· Britain will be 'Siberian' in less than 20 years
· Threat to the world is greater than terrorism

Mark Townsend and Paul Harris in New York

February 22, 2004

Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters..

A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.

The document predicts that abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies. The threat to global stability vastly eclipses that of terrorism, say the few experts privy to its contents.

'Disruption and conflict will be endemic features of life,' concludes the Pentagon analysis. 'Once again, warfare would define human life.'

The findings will prove humiliating to the Bush administration, which has repeatedly denied that climate change even exists. Experts said that they will also make unsettling reading for a President who has insisted national defence is a priority.

The report was commissioned by influential Pentagon defence adviser Andrew Marshall, who has held considerable sway on US military thinking over the past three decades. He was the man behind a sweeping recent review aimed at transforming the American military under Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Climate change 'should be elevated beyond a scientific debate to a US national security concern', say the authors, Peter Schwartz, CIA consultant and former head of planning at Royal Dutch/Shell Group, and Doug Randall of the California-based Global Business Network.

An imminent scenario of catastrophic climate change is 'plausible and would challenge United States national security in ways that should be considered immediately', they conclude. As early as next year widespread flooding by a rise in sea levels will create major upheaval for millions.

Last week the Bush administration came under heavy fire from a large body of respected scientists who claimed that it cherry-picked science to suit its policy agenda and suppressed studies that it did not like. Jeremy Symons, a former whistleblower at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), said that suppression of the report for four months was a further example of the White House trying to bury the threat of climate change.

Senior climatologists, however, believe that their verdicts could prove the catalyst in forcing Bush to accept climate change as a real and happening phenomenon. They also hope it will convince the United States to sign up to global treaties to reduce the rate of climatic change.

A group of eminent UK scientists recently visited the White House to voice their fears over global warming, part of an intensifying drive to get the US to treat the issue seriously. Sources have told The Observer that American officials appeared extremely sensitive about the issue when faced with complaints that America's public stance appeared increasingly out of touch.

One even alleged that the White House had written to complain about some of the comments attributed to Professor Sir David King, Tony Blair's chief scientific adviser, after he branded the President's position on the issue as indefensible.

Among those scientists present at the White House talks were Professor John Schellnhuber, former chief environmental adviser to the German government and head of the UK's leading group of climate scientists at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. He said that the Pentagon's internal fears should prove the 'tipping point' in persuading Bush to accept climatic change.

Sir John Houghton, former chief executive of the Meteorological Office - and the first senior figure to liken the threat of climate change to that of terrorism - said: 'If the Pentagon is sending out that sort of message, then this is an important document indeed.'

Bob Watson, chief scientist for the World Bank and former chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, added that the Pentagon's dire warnings could no longer be ignored.

'Can Bush ignore the Pentagon? It's going be hard to blow off this sort of document. Its hugely embarrassing. After all, Bush's single highest priority is national defence. The Pentagon is no wacko, liberal group, generally speaking it is conservative. If climate change is a threat to national security and the economy, then he has to act. There are two groups the Bush Administration tend to listen to, the oil lobby and the Pentagon,' added Watson.

'You've got a President who says global warming is a hoax, and across the Potomac river you've got a Pentagon preparing for climate wars. It's pretty scary when Bush starts to ignore his own government on this issue,' said Rob Gueterbock of Greenpeace.

Already, according to Randall and Schwartz, the planet is carrying a higher population than it can sustain. By 2020 'catastrophic' shortages of water and energy supply will become increasingly harder to overcome, plunging the planet into war. They warn that 8,200 years ago climatic conditions brought widespread crop failure, famine, disease and mass migration of populations that could soon be repeated.

Randall told The Observer that the potential ramifications of rapid climate change would create global chaos. 'This is depressing stuff,' he said. 'It is a national security threat that is unique because there is no enemy to point your guns at and we have no control over the threat.'

Randall added that it was already possibly too late to prevent a disaster happening. 'We don't know exactly where we are in the process. It could start tomorrow and we would not know for another five years,' he said.

'The consequences for some nations of the climate change are unbelievable. It seems obvious that cutting the use of fossil fuels would be worthwhile.'

So dramatic are the report's scenarios, Watson said, that they may prove vital in the US elections. Democratic frontrunner John Kerry is known to accept climate change as a real problem. Scientists disillusioned with Bush's stance are threatening to make sure Kerry uses the Pentagon report in his campaign.

The fact that Marshall is behind its scathing findings will aid Kerry's cause. Marshall, 82, is a Pentagon legend who heads a secretive think-tank dedicated to weighing risks to national security called the Office of Net Assessment. Dubbed 'Yoda' by Pentagon insiders who respect his vast experience, he is credited with being behind the Department of Defence's push on ballistic-missile defence.

Symons, who left the EPA in protest at political interference, said that the suppression of the report was a further instance of the White House trying to bury evidence of climate change. 'It is yet another example of why this government should stop burying its head in the sand on this issue.'

Symons said the Bush administration's close links to high-powered energy and oil companies was vital in understanding why climate change was received sceptically in the Oval Office. 'This administration is ignoring the evidence in order to placate a handful of large energy and oil companies,' he added.

Take Action! Support transportation solutions, not more pollution
A major transportation bill now before Congress could spell disaster for our environment, public health, local communities, and historic rivers. Now, some senators are even trying to make a bad bill worse by sneaking in provisions from last year's energy bill. If they're successful, we may once again face the possibility of Arctic oil drilling and more pollution. But there's still hope. The House and Senate are expected to resolve their separate transportation bills this month. Let Congress know you want legislation that funds environmentally responsible transportation, not more oil drilling and more pollution. More details above and at

(Editor's Note: Excerpted from a new policy brief available in full at )

The fall of the Soviet Union handed the U.S. a unique opportunity, as the surviving superpower, to lead the world toward a period of greater cooperation and conflict resolution through the use of diplomacy, global organization, and international law. This great opportunity is being squandered, as the world becomes a more dangerous place. Military force is now looming larger than ever as the main instrument and organizing principle of U.S. foreign policy. In our new national security doctrine, in the shape of our federal budget, and in the missions of the agencies the budget funds, our government is being reshaped to weaken controls on its use of force and further incline our country toward war.

With the invasion and occupation of Iraq, we have witnessed the end of the so-called post-cold war era and the escalation of a continuous, worldwide war on terrorism that has increased global insecurity. Nearly 150,000 American forces are occupying Iraq and Afghanistan, and the result is growing anarchy in both countries. President Bush has declared that the war against terrorism centers on Iraq. This has the ring of self-fulfilling prophecy, since Iraq had no terrorism problem the U.S. invasion. A growing number at home and abroad are concerned Washington will resort to the use of preemptive force again, perhaps against other so-called "axis of evil" members, North Korea or Iran, before this year's election.

Reversing a trend that pre-dated the fall of the Soviet Union, the U.S. has increased its military budget to more than $400 billion and its intelligence budget to more than $40 billion. Current projections point to a defense budget of more than $500 billion before the end of the decade, with another $50 billion for the intelligence community. Led by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, the Department of Defense has moved aggressively to eclipse the State Department as the major locus of U.S. foreign policy, arrogating management of the intelligence community, and abandoning bipartisan policies of arms control and disarmament crafted over the past four decades. Funding cuts have prompted the Department of State to close consulates around the world and assign personnel of the well-funded CIA to diplomatic and consular posts. Though current defense costs represent nearly 20% of Washington's expenses, less than 1% of the federal budget is devoted to the needs of the State Department.

The misuse of sensitive information to justify the war against Iraq has precipitated the worst intelligence scandal in U.S. history, compromising the Bush administration's integrity. As former National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski argued, this intelligence failure has been "fueled by a demagogy that emphasizes worst-case scenarios, stimulates fear and induces a dichotomous view of world reality."

So instead of living in a new era of conciliation and conflict resolution, we are witnessing an ugly epilogue to the cold war that finds Washington acting alone instead of working with its traditional allies. It is important to understand how the U.S. was lured into this terrible cul-de-sac and how the nation should debate and adopt policies to reverse the Bush administration's dangerous neoconservative course.

Subject: What's Freedom Worth?

What's Freedom Worth?

By Lady Liberty

There's a lot of talk these days about freedom within the confines of Internet mailing lists, newsgroups, and editorial venues. In fact, such talk has spread quite handily to real world gatherings, protests, and even a talk show or two. But while that's a good thing, it's quite frankly not good enough.

Many of those who consider themselves a part of the so-called "freedom movement" will say that they want liberty. They want freedom from intrusive government oversight, and freedom from laws they consider matters of personal choice rather than harm to individuals or communities. They want returned to them what they know are unalienable rights but which have nonetheless been usurped by government agencies or mandates. And they'll tell you so, loudly and clearly, anytime you ask.

Ask one of these "freedom fighters" what they intend to do to regain liberty, and they'll usually say that they're working to educate others. They'll talk about making reforms via the voting booth or writing to their public officials. Again, these are good things. But just as talking about freedom isn't enough, taking relatively convenient action isn't sufficient, either.

I'm not telling any big secrets here, or offering up some long-hidden insight. Those who vote and campaign, who write and call Washington or their own more local representatives, and who live to see their names below missives on the editorial pages, will acknowledge that what they're doing isn't going to result in radical change. At best, they know they're forestalling some of the worst government abuses. Their activities are useful to be sure, but realistically have a limited impact on all they're trying to change.

Most of these people are frustrated, but nowhere near giving up their fight entirely. Ask them where freedom ranks on their list of priorities, and it will be first or second on their personal lists. Until, that is, you ask them to actually put their priorities where their mouth is...

While many people have heard of and applaud the efforts of the Free State Project, the Free State Wyoming Project, and the Free West Alliance, most of them aren't members nor are they intending to be. Why not? Well, because they'd have to move to New Hampshire or Wyoming and become politically active there. And that would, apparently, be somewhat inconvenient.

Freedom is the number one priority on their list, they say. But living close to their family and friends outranks it. Or they don't want to leave a job they like or go through the trouble of packing up and relocating an entire household. They'll vote and they'll offer campaign contributions to the candidate of their choice, and they might even agree to a yard sign next to the front porch. But to actually actively campaign, run for office, or spearhead the effort to get an issue on the ballot? Perish the thought! And don't even think of mentioning to most of them a more rural lifestyle. Freedom is important, yes, but it's barely edged out by the convenience of the Starbucks outlet on the route to work.

I recognize I'm making some of these people sound shallow, and the truth is that most of them aren't. They do believe in freedom, and they are doing something toward that end. Unfortunately, what many of them are doing is what they are most conveniently able to do. They have bumper stickers on their cars that remind us all that "Freedom Isn't Free," but they're intent on keeping the costs as low as possible for themselves.

On the mailing list this week of what is allegedly a goal-oriented pro-freedom group, one member tried to get some concrete answers to what I think are important questions. Not the least of them was, "Okay, so what's the next step?" No one answered him. Oh, he got plenty of responses, but no answers. He was told, "Well, we're pretty much going to do what each of us wants to do, and that's what you should do, too." No one suggested he read over a proposed plan for action because there isn't one, and when he tried to suggest that a solid plan and some consolidation of participants was necessary, he was summarily removed from the mailing list for being "inflammatory."

And so we continue to talk about freedom and to philosophize about the import of a free place where liberty-lovers might congregate. Again, that's not necessarily a bad thing because philosophy has its place in changing hearts and minds. But changing the real world requires action, not academics! Certainly it's crucial that people first be educated. But what each does with the knowledge afterwards - and what continuing education they choose to seek - will tell the real story.

If you admit that you can only do what you're willing to do, and the limit of that is a few well chosen words to a newspaper editor or attendance at a campaign fundraiser, that's fine with me. I'll even thank you for your concern and your efforts. But if that's the case, don't pretend that freedom is first on your list. In fact, don't even try to convince me that freedom is particularly high on the list.

While you're reading this, someone I know is facing a felony trial merely for exercising a Constitutional right in a place where officials refuse to recognize what used to be called the "supreme law of the land." He has decided to fight in the courtroom in spite of the potentially severe repercussions because freedom is first on his list. Someone with whom I'm acquainted has risen to the challenge offered by the man on the mailing list of which I spoke, and has expended considerable time, effort, and expertise to lay out an action agenda toward establishing liberty in at least one locale. That's because freedom is first on his list, too.

Several friends and acquaintances have given up literally almost all of their free time, losing opportunities for both social interaction and moneymaking, to work in varying capacities toward their goal of increased freedom. A small group of property owners who have shared their story with me has spent thousands of dollars and more than ten years fighting a government action they know is wrong. A serious toll has been taken on them for their actions, but although tired and wounded, they refuse to give up. A number (relatively small yet, but growing) of people I know in both the "real world" and via the Internet are actively seeking real estate and jobs so that they can move either east or west and toward a free state (or county or city). These people, too, place freedom ahead of other personally fulfilling - and almost certainly easier and more immediately rewarding - things on their lists.

George Bernard Shaw said, "Freedom requires responsibility. That is why most men dread it." Freedom also requires work and sacrifice. Whether you consider freedom to outweigh the considerable effort and occasional risk required is where we'll all find out if you are one of those who, despite words to the contrary, dreads true freedom. For myself, I'm not fond of great risk nor am I particularly thrilled with the slow, often thankless, and sometimes excruciating work of pushing back the veil of tyranny that threatens. But I also know where I rank freedom on my own list. Where does it fall on yours?

I was arrested in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1976 for driving under the influence of alcohol. I pled guilty, paid a fine, and had my driver's license suspended for 30 days. My Texas driving record has been "lost" and is not available.

I joined the Texas Air National Guard and went AWOL. I refused to take a drug test or answer any questions about my drug use. By joining the Texas Air National Guard, I was able to avoid combat duty in Vietnam.

I graduated from Yale University with a low C average. I was a cheerleader.

I ran for U.S. Congress and lost. I began my career in the oil business in Midland, Texas, in 1975. I bought an oil company, but couldn't find any oil in Texas. The company went bankrupt shortly after I sold all my stock. I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a sweetheart deal that took land using taxpayer money. With the help of my father and our right-wing friends in the oil industry (including Enron CEO Ken Lay), I was elected governor of Texas.

I changed Texas pollution laws to favor power and oil companies, making Texas the most polluted state in the Union.
During my tenure, Houston replaced Los Angeles as the most smog-ridden city in America.
I cut taxes and bankrupted the Texas treasury to the tune of billions in borrowed money.
I set the record for the most executions by any governor in American history.
With the help of my brother, the governor of Florida, and my father's appointments to the Supreme Court, I became President after losing by over
500,000 votes.

I am the first President in U.S. history to enter office with a criminal record.
I invaded and occupied two countries at a continuing cost of over one billion dollars per week.
I spent the U.S. surplus and effectively bankrupted the U.S. Treasury.
I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in U.S. history.
I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period.
I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period.
I set the all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the U.S. stock market.
In my first year in office, over 2 million Americans lost their jobs and that trend continues every month.
I'm proud that the members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in U.S. history. My "poorest millionaire," Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her.
I set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips by a U.S. President.
I am the all-time U.S. and world record-holder for receiving the most corporate campaign donations.
My largest lifetime campaign contributor, and one of my best friends, Kenneth Lay, presided over the largest corporate bankruptcy fraud in U.S.
History, Enron.
My political party used Enron private jets and corporate attorneys to assure my success with the U.S. Supreme Court during my election decision.
I have protected my friends at Enron and Halliburton against investigation or prosecution. More time and money was spent investigating the Monica Lewinsky affair than has been spent investigating one of the biggest corporate rip-offs in history.
I presided over the biggest energy crisis in U.S. history and refused to intervene when corruption involving the oil industry was revealed.
I presided over the highest gasoline prices in U.S. history.
I changed the U.S. policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts.
I appointed more convicted criminals to administration than any President in U.S. history. I created the Ministry of Homeland Security, the largest bureaucracy in the history of the United States government.
I've broken more international treaties than any President in U.S. history.
I am the first President in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Human Rights Commission.
I withdrew the U.S. from the World Court of Law.
I refused to allow inspectors access to U.S. "prisoners of war" detainees and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention.
I am the first President in history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 U.S. election).
I set the record for fewest number of press conferences of any President since the advent of television.
I set the all-time record for most days on vacation in any one-year period.
After taking off the entire month of August, I presided over the worst security failure in U.S. history.
I garnered the most sympathy for the U.S. after the World Trade Center attacks and less than a year later made the U.S. the most hated country in the world, the largest failure of diplomacy in world history.
I have set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously protest me in public venues (15 million people), shattering the record for
protest against any person in the history of mankind.
I am the first President in U.S. history to order an unprovoked, pre-emptive attack and the military occupation of a sovereign nation. I did so against the will of the United Nations, the majority of U.S. citizens, and the world community.
I have cut health care benefits for war veterans and support a cut in duty benefits for active duty troops and their families -- in war time.
In my State of the Union Address, I lied about our reasons for attacking Iraq, then blamed the lies on our British friends.
I am the first President in history to have a majority of Europeans (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and security.
I am supporting development of a nuclear "Tactical Bunker Buster," a WMD.
I have so far failed to fulfill my pledge to bring Osama Bin Laden to justice.

All records of my tenure as governor of Texas are now in my father's library, sealed and unavailable for public view.
All records of SEC investigations into my insider trading and my bankrupt companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.
All records or minutes from meetings that I, or my Vice-President, attended regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review.

Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had the habit of walking along the beach before he began his work. One day he was walking along the shore; as he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer.

He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day, so he began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing, but instead, he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

The young man paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing Starfish into the ocean."

"I guess I should have asked; why are you throwing Starfish into the ocean?"

"The sun is up and the tide is going out and if I don't throw them in they'll die."

"But young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and Starfish all along it, you can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listened politely, then bent down, picked up another Starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves." It made a difference for that one."

His response surprised the man, he was upset, he didn't know how to reply, so instead he turned away and walked back to the cottage to begin his writings.

All day long as he wrote, the image of that young man haunted him; he tried to ignore it, but the vision persisted. Finally, late in the afternoon, he realized that he the scientist, he the poet, had missed the essential nature of the young man's actions. Because he realized that what the young man was doing was choosing not to be an observer in the universe and watch it pass by, but was choosing to be an actor in the universe and make a difference. He was embarrassed.

That night he went to bed, troubled. When morning came, he awoke knowing that he had to do something; so he got up, put on his clothes, went to the beach and found the young man; and with him spent the rest of the morning throwing Starfish into the ocean.

You see, what the young man's actions represent is something that is special in each and every one of us. We have all been gifted with the ability to make a difference. And if we can, like the young man, become aware of that gift, we gain through the strength of our vision the power to shape the future.

And that is your challenge, and that is my challenge. We must find our Starfish, and if we throw our stars wisely and well, I have no question that the 21st century is going to be a wonderful place.

Vision without action is merely a dream.
Action without vision just passes time.
Vision with action can change the world.
