The Writing on the Wall Series #25: Change or Die

Hello everyone

We need, the whole planet needs a huge miracle pretty soon for, as this compilation, on top of dozens of similar ones you got from this source, amply proves. We have been warned for years that unless we change direction, we are headed for an unmitigated global disaster. I know... Like most people I would prefer to believe that a mix of human ingenuity, technological prowess and sheer luck will help us somehow pull through the perilous times ahead, but I'm not terribly optimistic, perhaps just a bit too coldly realistic to believe that without a massive spiritual revolution, the stuff that makes you rethink and change your whole life priorities and finally do the right things you knew all along you ought to do, our near future is very bleak indeed. Often, as what happens when a major life crisis occurs, when we are pushed into the very tight corner of "die or change", miraculous changes are possible, arguably inevitable. Take the terminal transformation of a crawling caterpillar into a fairy-like butterfly for instance. Isn't that a miracle!

Somewhere within I know, I actually sense it is all going to be All Right. Yet right now, I would love to feel we are all pulling together, putting aside our ego-centered self-absorption, towards pushing open the cocoon of our dying planet to emerge into the blazing, sunny new reality of a world of Peace, Love, Harmony accomplished for all to share evenly and happily.

This Saturday, with this once-in-a-lifetime cosmic opportunity presented to us through Harmonic Concordance, let us High-Vibe the world! Let us BE... All That We Are. And the world will be made anew, and a new fresh Spring of renewal and rejuvenation will seep into every heart, gush through every conscious cell and wash over this entire planetary sphere in a blissful Knowledge of our Unity, forever and forever...

"The most beautiful and most profound experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the sower of all true science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead. To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive forms. This knowledge, this feeling is at the center of true religiousness."

SPECIAL NOTE FROM JEAN: In a recent (October 29) note from Matthew in which he was confirming that the fires in California had been deliberately set to divert the media and thus the people's attention in the U.S. from the real, urgent issues at hand (the Iraq war going from bad to worst, the employment going south, the reckless disregard for our global environment, and so on) in an effort to prevent a popular outcry against those destructive policies and the demise of the Bush/Cheney Administration in the coming presidential election next year, there was an interesting conclusion in which was highlighted the very antidote to all these efforts to trick us once again.

"Your convictions that you are manifesting the world you want is what is ushering in that world, so your convictions must stay steadfastly strong to bring this more swiftly. There is a silver lining here. Just as the widespread electrical outages had the opposite effect of what the cabal-designers expected—that is, there was cooperation and even jovial endurance of the disruptions instead of fear, confusion and crimes—this fire devastation will bring forth the goodness in souls and there will be an outpouring of sympathy and assistance. This will lighten the heavy negativity that the trauma of the fires produced."

And it is precisely was has occurred as there has been reported indeed a remarkable outpouring of compassion and solidarity in the face of these collective tribulations and even more resolve to fix the real problem of those misguided corporate/religious lunatics at the helm of the most powerful nation on Earth that soon, very soon, will mutate into the most benevolent community of loving, selfless people the Earth has ever seen in a very, very long time. The winds of change that blew down the Berlin Wall and the crumbling Soviet empire are playing the same fear-busting, courage-boosting effect around the world and in the United States of America. It is not just the sun that is breathing purifying fires at us. The entire universe if holding our hands to guide us safely through the last few hurdles into the Promise Land of Universal Peace and Brotherhood on Terra Gaia, alive and kicking.

What is happening to the Sun? (Nov 4, 2003)
The Sun's intense activity in the past week will go into the record books. Scientists say they have been amazed by the ferocity of the gigantic flares exploding on the solar surface. The past 24 hours have seen three major events erupt over our star, hurling billions of tonnes of superhot gas into space - some of it directed at Earth. Researchers are once more predicting colourful displays of aurorae - polar lights - when the charged particles from the Sun crash into our atmosphere. (...) Some experts are saying that the Sun is more active than it has been in living memory. Dr Paal Brekke, deputy project scientist for the Solar Heliospheric Observatory (Soho) Sun-monitoring satellite, told BBC News Online: "It is quite amazing that the flaring regions continue releasing such strong flares. "I think the last week will go into the history books as one of the most dramatic solar activity periods we have seen in modern times. "As far as I know there has been nothing like this before." CLIP

Biggest solar flare goes off (Nov 5, 2003 - Go see the pictures!)
Just as solar scientists thought the Sun may be winding down it unleashes the biggest solar flare ever recorded. It was so energetic that it overloaded the detectors on satellites monitoring the Sun's surface. The blast was accompanied with a gigantic gas cloud of billions of tonnes of superhot gas being ejected into space - some of it directed at Earth.

Unique double solar punch strikes Earth (October - see very nice Aurora pic!)
An unprecedented double whammy of massive solar flares in just two days has slammed into the Earth’s magnetic field, lighting up night skies with spectacular aurora at unusually low latitudes. The first flare, the biggest to target the Earth for decades, caused aeroplanes to reroute after disruptions to their communications, disabled satellites and required power companies to restrict the use of grid systems. But, unlike the first burst of charged particles, the magnetic polarity of the second flare opposed the Earth's geomagnetic field. "This means it could interact much more violently," says Paal Brekke, Deputy Project Scientist on the Sun-observing satellite SOHO. The magnetic storm is over now but its full effects will not be known for a day or two.

Nearest Milky Way companion found (With pictures)
An international team of astronomers has found a previously unknown galaxy colliding with our own Milky Way. Called the Canis Major dwarf galaxy after the constellation in which it lies, the star grouping is about 25,000 light-years away from our Solar System. (...) It seems that streams of stars pulled out of the cannibalised Canis Major dwarf galaxy have merged with the outer reaches of the Milky Way's disc. They may even pass close to the Sun. In recent years, astronomers have found that large galaxies like the Milky Way grow by consuming smaller galaxies. (...) "On galactic scales, the Canis Major dwarf galaxy is a lightweight of about only one billion Suns," says Dr Michele Bellazzini of Bologna Observatory, Italy. "This small galaxy is unlikely to hold together much longer. It is being pushed and pulled by the colossal gravity of our Milky Way, which has been progressively stealing its stars and pulling it apart." Some remnants of the Canis Major dwarf form a ring around the disc of the Milky Way. "The Canis Major dwarf galaxy may have added up to 1% more mass to our galaxy," says Dr Geraint Lewis of the University of Sydney, Australia. "This is also an important discovery because it highlights that the Milky Way is not in its middle age - it is still forming."

Crop circles: a unique view (Pictures from: Crop Circle Year Book 2003)
Since 1994 Steve Alexander has been taking aerial photographs of crop circle formations in the UK as they have developed from simple circular formations to the extraordinarily complex patterns seen in recent years. With his partner Karen Douglas, he has published a Crop Circle Yearbook annually since 1999, producing a stunning record of one of the most awesome, unexplained phenomena in the world. Gill Fry interviewed Steve Alexander for Share International. (...) We’ve heard of people going into crop circles with physical complaints, and when they come out those complaints have disappeared — like arthritis or a bad back. Vice versa, some people go into the circles and actually feel quite ill. So the circles seem to affect people in different ways ... it depends almost on your own personal makeup. Other people report seeing mysterious ‘balls of light’ in the crop circles and many people ‘pick up the energies’ with dowsing rods. SI: Have you found that crop circles affect electrical equipment? SA: Mobile phones often work outside the circle, but not inside, and cameras malfunction on a regular basis. I had an experience in 1995 on Telegraph Hill near Winchester. I had two cameras: one was on a pole and one was laid on the ground. Both cameras had new batteries but when I tried to use them the batteries were ‘dead’. A colleague of mine also found their camera battery was drained. When we got home the batteries were fully charged. Sometimes cameras will malfunction as you are flying over a circle, and watches will stop and start again as you come out of the circle — it’s almost as if you are going into a different reality. (...) This year there have been about 45 to 50 circles in Wiltshire, and around 150-200 countrywide. Some are not reported because farmers don’t want people in their fields, and sometimes they are only found when the farmers are harvesting. Not all the crop circles are by the roadside or visible to the eye, some are tucked away. There are also crop circles all over Europe (Germany, Holland, Italy) Canada, the USA — it’s a worldwide phenomenon, but there are more in the Wiltshire area than anywhere else. CLIP

Some months ago, concerned by a Paris statement made by Professor Kenneth Deffeyes of Princeton regarding his concern about the impact of Peak Oil and Gas on fertilizer production, I tasked FTW's Contributing Editor for Energy, Dale Allen Pfeiffer to start looking into what natural gas shortages would do to fertilizer production costs. His investigation led him to look at the totality of food production in the US. Because the US and Canada feed much of the world, the answers have global implications. What follows is most certainly the single most frightening article I have ever read and certainly the most alarming piece that FTW has ever published. Even as we have seen CNN, Britain's Independent and Jane's Defence Weekly acknowledge the reality of Peak Oil and Gas within the last week, acknowledging that world oil and gas reserves are as much as 80% less than predicted, we are also seeing how little real thinking has been devoted to the host of crises certain to follow; at least in terms of publicly accessible thinking. The following article is so serious in its implications that I have taken the unusual step of underlining some of its key findings. I did that with the intent that the reader treat each underlined passage as a separate and incredibly important fact. Each one of these facts should be read and digested separately to assimilate its importance. I found myself reading one fact and then getting up and walking away until I could come back and (un)comfortably read to the next. (...) "It takes 500 years to replace 1 inch of topsoil. In a natural environment, topsoil is built up by decaying plant matter and weathering rock, and it is protected from erosion by growing plants. In soil made susceptible by agriculture, erosion is reducing productivity up to 65% each year. Former prairie lands, which constitute the bread basket of the United States, have lost one half of their topsoil after farming for about 100 years. This soil is eroding 30 times faster than the natural formation rate. As a result, the remaining topsoil is increasingly depleted of nutrients. Soil erosion and mineral depletion removes about $20 billion worth of plant nutrients from U.S. agricultural soils every year. Much of the soil in the Great Plains is little more than a sponge into which we must pour hydrocarbon-based fertilizers in order to produce crops." Every year in the U.S., more than 2 million acres of cropland are lost to erosion, salinization and water logging. On top of this, urbanization, road building, and industry claim another 1 million acres annually from farmland. (...) Modern intensive agriculture is unsustainable. It is damaging the land, draining water supplies and polluting the environment. And all of this requires more and more fossil fuel input to pump irrigation water, to replace nutrients, to provide pest protection, to remediate the environment and simply to hold crop production at a constant. Yet this necessary fossil fuel input is going to crash headlong into declining fossil fuel production. (...) This leaves the third choice, which itself presents an unspeakable picture of suffering and death. Should we fail to acknowledge this coming crisis and determine to deal with it, we will be faced with a die-off from which civilization may very possibly never revive. We will very likely lose more than the numbers necessary for sustainability. Under a die-off scenario, conditions will deteriorate so badly that the surviving human population would be a negligible fraction of the present population. And those survivors would suffer from the trauma of living through the death of their civilization, their neighbors, their friends and their families. Those survivors will have seen their world crushed into nothing. The questions we must ask ourselves now are, how can we allow this to happen, and what can we do to prevent it? Does our present lifestyle mean so much to us that we would subject ourselves and our children to this fast approaching tragedy simply for a few more years of conspicuous consumption?

U.S. Develops Lethal New Viruses (Oct 30)
A scientist funded by the US government has deliberately created an extremely deadly form of mousepox, a relative of the smallpox virus, through genetic engineering. The new virus kills all mice even if they have been given antiviral drugs as well as a vaccine that would normally protect them. The work has not stopped there. The cowpox virus, which infects a range of animals including humans, has been genetically altered in a similar way. The new virus, which is about to be tested on animals, should be lethal only to mice, Mark Buller of the University of St Louis told New Scientist. He says his work is necessary to explore what bioterrorists might do. But the research brings closer the prospect of pox viruses that cause only mild infections in humans being turned into diseases lethal even to people who have been vaccinated. And vaccines are currently our main defence against smallpox and its relatives, such as the monkeypox that reached the US this year. Some researchers think the latest research is risky and unnecessary. "I have great concern about doing this in a pox virus that can cross species," said Ian Ramshaw of the Australian National University in Canberra on being told of Buller's work. Thirsty Africa faces food crisis (Nov 2, 3003)
The spectre of famine and reliance on outside help could soon threaten large parts of Africa, scientists believe. They think increasing water scarcity may leave much of the continent not only thirsty, but without enough water to grow sufficient food for its needs. On present trends, they expect one in three of the world's people will be affected by water shortages in 2025. The annual crop loss across Africa could be as much as the entire grain harvest produced by the US and India. CLIP

Africa famine to last into 2004 (January 7, 2003)
Poor rains mean the famine in Southern Africa is likely to continue for at least another year, the UN says. The famine affecting 14 million people across southern Africa is likely to last at least another year, the United Nations food agency has warned. This should be a time of rainfall across most of the region but in country after country the rains have been patchy and interspersed with dry spells. The World Food Programme says this has resulted in farmers in a number of countries abandoning their planting. More details on the Famine in Africa at

Let Them Eat Tax Cuts
A new study finds that Americans are going to bed hungry. Last year, a whopping 12 million Americans 'worried that they couldn't afford to buy food' and 32% of those 12m respondents 'actually experienced going hungry.' Although this is a country with well-stocked supermarket shelves, the Department of Agriculture stated that for the third year in a row, there has been an increase in the 'number of households experiencing hunger and those worried about having enough money to pay for food... Calling it 'the invisible problem, the Guardian notes that [America] is 'being gnawed away from the inside by persistent and rising poverty.' Two years ago, 'about 31 million Americans were deemed to be 'food insecure' (they literally did not know where their next meal was coming from.) Since then the problem has only worsened. In 25 major American cities last year, 'the need for emergency food rose an average of 19%.'

Israel destroys US-built wells (Nov 5)
The US has reportedly complained after the Israeli army destroyed wells built for civilians in Gaza by an American government aid agency. Huge areas have been demolished by the Israelis in the Gaza Strip in recent weeks, including more than 150 homes. The wells had just been dug by the United States Agency for International Development (USAid). A few months ago the agency announced a $20m (£12m) project to rebuild infrastructure including roads, electricity supply lines and sewers in the occupied territories. The agency was reporting good progress. But its workers were dismayed when they turned up to finish the wells and found that their work had been destroyed.

Large quantities of British arms and internal security equipment are being sold to Israel despite the government's public criticism of the country's human rights record and growing violence there, the Guardian can reveal. Export licences for weapons are being cleared even though Jack Straw, the foreign secretary, has admitted that Israel has breached assurances that British equipment would not be used in the occupied territories. Exports approved by the government this year cover categories including leg-irons, electric shock belts and chemical and biological agents such as tear gas. They also include categories covering mortars, rocket launchers, anti-tank weapons, military explosives, and infrared and radar sensors.

WashPost Poll: America Rejects Bush's Domestic Agenda
Consistent with other public polls, Bush's approval rating on Iraq has slipped to net negative (47% approval/51% disapproval) from net positive in mid-September. But from the standpoint of the Bush administration, the most disturbing approval findings may be these. His approval rating on taxes has slipped to a net rating of -12 points (41% approval/53% disapproval) from a 48%/48% split in mid-September. When you've got a net negative rating on your signature domestic issue, that's very bad news indeed. And when you look at two other key domestic areas, both of which seem likely to figure in '04, his ratings are beyond merely bad: 32%/61% disapproval on the federal budget deficit and 28%/63% disapproval on the cost, availability and coverage of health insurance.

Attack on helicopter pulls Americans deeper into their Iraq quagmire (Nov 4)
The question United States Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld posed to his senior officials two eeks ago looks even more pertinent today than when he asked it. "Are we winning or losing the global War on Terror?" he asked. The rocket attack on a troop-carrying Chinook helicopter at Al-Fallujah in Iraq on Sunday that killed 16 soldiers and wounded another 20 would seem to provide the answer. It was the deadliest day for American forces in Iraq since March 23 when 28 soldiers were killed during the advance on Baghdad. The helicopter attack fits into a picture of growing sophistication and strategic purpose among the Iraqi insurgents. That purpose is to break the will of the American people to stick with the Iraqi venture to a stable conclusion and to dissuade U.S. allies and international institutions from aiding reconstruction of the country. The downing of the Chinook came one week after a multiple rocket attack on a hotel within the U.S. military compound in Baghdad where Deputy Defence Secretary Paul Wolfowitz was staying. That followed car bomb attacks on the United Nations and Red Cross headquarters, which have caused both organizations to all but abandon Iraq. These are only the most dramatic of some 30 attacks a day against U.S. and coalition forces, mostly in a roughly triangular region of central Iraq mainly populated by Sunni Muslims. Saddam Hussein was and may still be their leader.

Oiling up the draft machine? (Nov. 3, 2003)
The Pentagon is quietly moving to fill draft board vacancies nationwide. While officials say there's no cause to worry, some experts aren't so sure. The community draft boards that became notorious for sending reluctant young men off to Vietnam have languished since the early 1970s, their membership ebbing and their purpose all but lost when the draft was ended. But a few weeks ago, on an obscure federal Web site devoted to the war on terrorism, the Bush administration quietly began a public campaign to bring the draft boards back to life. "Serve Your Community and the Nation," the announcement urges. "If a military draft becomes necessary, approximately 2,000 Local and Appeal Boards throughout America would decide which young men ... receive deferments, postponements or exemptions from military service."

Blueprint for a Mess (November 2)
On the streets of Baghdad today, Americans do not feel welcome. United States military personnel in the city are hunkered down behind acres of fencing and razor wire inside what was once Saddam Hussein's Republican Palace. When L. Paul Bremer III, head of the Coalition Provisional Authority, leaves the compound, he is always surrounded by bodyguards, carbines at the ready, and G.I.'s on patrol in the city's streets never let their hands stray far from the triggers of their machine guns or M-16 rifles.
NOTE FROM JEAN: Last October 31, watching the news from France on TV5 here in Quebec, I was amazed to hear and see that the American military have built a 10 mile long, 12 feet high concrete wall entirely surrounding their command center in Baghdad, for security purpose of course, thus cutting the homes of several thousand people from the rest of the city. They are acting as a besieged occupying army, which they are. But what surprised me the most is how they have managed to prevent English newsmedia (at least print media for sure) from even mentioning it. I could find absolutely no reference to it except in this article above.

There are weapons of mass destruction all over Iraq and they were used this year. Iraqi children continue to find them every day. They have ruined the lives of just under 300,000 people during the last decade - and numbers will increase. The reason is simple. Two hundred tonnes of radioactive material were fired by invading US forces into buildings, homes, streets and gardens all over Baghdad. The material in question is depleted uranium (DU). Left over after natural uranium has been enriched, DU is 1.7 times denser than lead - effective in penetrating armoured objects such as tanks.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Companies awarded $8 billion in contracts to rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan have been major campaign donors to President Bush, and their executives have had important political and military connections, according to a study released Thursday. The study of more than 70 U.S. companies and individual contrac tors turned up more than $500,000 in donations to the president's 2000 campaign, more than they gave collectively to any other politician over the past dozen years. The report was released by the Center for Public Integrity, a Washington-based research organization that produces investigative articles on special interests and ethics in government. Its staff includes journalists and researchers. The Center concluded that most of the 10 largest contracts went to companies that employed former high-ranking government officials, or executives with close ties to members of Congress and even the agencies awarding their contracts. Major contracts for Iraq and Afghanistan were awarded by the Bush administration without competitive bids, because agencies said competition. CLIP

An emerging whodunit in Central Oregon hovers amid the smoke draping the east side of the Cascade Range. Ultra-thin 'blankets' cut reservoir evaporation (Nov 1)
Spreading an ultra-thin layer of organic molecules on the surface of reservoirs could prevent millions of cubic metres of precious water evaporating each year, according to a Canadian company that is the first to commercialise the technique. (...) If the technology becomes widespread, some questions will need to be addressed. While the fatty alcohols are considered non-toxic and safe in drinking water at the concentrations used, little research has been done to examine longer-term ecological effects of retarding evaporation in lakes or reservoirs, says Alamaro. Preventing evaporation for long periods might increase the water temperature and affect the exchange rates of gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. This could have unforeseen effects on the local ecosystem.

NOTE FROM JEAN: The following suggestion was sent by "Helen Jandamit"> with regard to the World Referendum text I recently sent you "Do you Wish That We Show Up?" in "The Light Series #53: A New Era is About to Begin" archived at http://www.EarthRainbowNetwork.comArchives2003/LightSeries53.htm
I'm sure some will find useful or inspiring what she proposes to do to make such an important choice and express it with the innerly acute awareness that best suits such an important act of affirmation.

This is my alternative suggestion:

It is highly beneficial to clarify to yourself what you really want for yourself and for the greater whole. It is useful to spend some time writing this down, amending it and rewriting it until you are satisfied with what you have stated. Please do not hurry. Be clear, be wise and compassionate. State it in a form that puts it as being already successfully completed.
E.g. My Galactic Federation family of Light have materialized on Earth for the highest good of all. Then at the time of your choosing, either alone or with witnesses, when you are focused and balanced, read out your intention. Dare to state it boldly and passionately and just feel the directed energy fly. Then celebrate, for it will happen.

Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich: "Iraq will not find peace or stability until the U.S. occupation ends. For almost a month, I have promoted a plan to bring our troops home and turn control of the transition over to the United Nations. The sons and daughters of the U.S. are dying in increasing numbers for the benefit of war profiteers with close ties to the Bush Administration. There was no basis for a war in Iraq. It was wrong to go in, and it's wrong to stay in. No weapons of mass destruction have been found. We should not be sacrificing the lives of our brave men and women for the profits of Halliburton, Bechtel, and other corporate interests. This disastrous mission must be ended before any more lives are lost. It is urgent for the United States to go to the U.N. with a new resolution, which contains the basis of an exit strategy. It is time to bring our troops home. It is time to get the U.N. in and the U.S. out of Iraq." Read more and check out the new website design at

An Intense Evening

It was an extremely intense night. At 2:32 AM, I and my flame were awakened by entities believed to be Sananda, St. Germaine, Buddha, and multitudes of others.

Be of good cheer. It is coming friends! The Light Express is on the way!

Sacred Geometry seen: Star Tetrahedron

Numerals seen: Number 4, Number 3

We are in Final Countdown to November 8-11, The Harmonic Concordance.

Tonight was a very important activation for the Lightworkers. Expect more!

We were told, "Everyone now will reap what they have sown. Instant karma".

We saw Final Judgment is on the way. Here come da' Judge!

It is coming as a thief in the night, and it shall be swift, like wildfire.

The Main Battle is inside us all. Release that which no longer serves you.

Stop all hypocrisy. Walk your talk! Right NOW!

See all demons flee, as the Light of Sol penetrates the darkness.

Call upon YOUR legions of angels and direct them to do the battle.

Send Unconditional Love to ALL.

Be kind to EVERYONE - especially yourselves!

Forgive everyone - even your ENEMIES - even yourselves!

The Golden Age is literally at our doorstep!

Live it, breathe it, see it, it is NOW!

No more duality, only balance, peace, and cooperation.

No more poverty, only abundance and prosperity.

No more pollution, man shall be the caretakers of the planet.

No more fear, only love pure and undefiled.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they are creating peace

Blessed are the meek, for they are inheriting the Earth

Nothing shall be the same after tonight. Don't look back.

No more excuses - we each are now fully responsible for our own actions!

You say you want prosperity - start speaking the words of abundance!

You say you want peace - think, speak, and perform only peaceful thoughts, words and deeds

You say you want abundance - start acting like the kings and queens that you are!

If you desire a thing in righteousness, speak it into existence!

Manifestation is now extremely easy for all of us - try it, you'll see!

If a son asks a father for a fish, will the father give him a stone?

Ask, and you shall receive in righteousness.

Call forth pure love. Think kind thoughts. Bless those who spitefully use you.

Perform random acts of kindness, and practice loving thoughts unprovoked.

These words burn in my soul, and I speak these words to all who will listen.

Thank you for that. As for Moon ceremonies, as a teacher of the Universal Medicine Wheel, and Native American spirituality, I can tell you that you can get full benefit from any moon ceremony from one day before, and one day after a new, or full moon. Don't get stuck on the "time", time doesn't exist now, does it?

Subject: Report of significant US military movement over Scotland...

>From the Peacewatchers at USAFs Fairford and Welford bases in the UK

Since Saturday, people in the Highlands of Scotland have been witnessing large movements of US warplanes overhead. Experienced observers say the large numbers are reminiscent of those that preceded the bombing of Iraq in 1998 and military strikes on Libya in the1980's as well as the first Gulf War.

At the weekend warplanes were flying over at a rate of roughly one every 15 minutes. As well as watching them from the ground the plane spotters have also been able to overhear pilots talking by listening to their radio frequencies.

At this rate some 288 warplanes would have passed over Scotland in three days.

It is thought that the planes have flown on a route from the US over the north pole to bases in Europe and the Mediterranean. The size and scale of the movement suggests that the US may be preparing to strike at a country in the Middle East in the next week to ten days.

Please pass this information on as widely as possible - the US may be planning to use the pretext of "foreign" terrorist attacks on US personnel in Iraq to attack Iran or Syria. Please alert any sympathetic elected representatives, media representatives and other sympathetic organisations. Publicising this military movement may prevent the air-strikes.

Subject: The One Life - a cosmic vision
Date: 4 Nov 2003

Dear Jean

Here is a piece I was inspired to write while contemplating on our universal oneness - a oneness that stretches out to the far edges of space, and inter-dimensionally from every speck of matter (personal, planetary, solar, galactic or cosmic) into vast fields of ever increasing Light and Love, way beyond our comprehension.  Feel free to share it with the group via the Light Series or Gaia Consciousness Files.

With love and light,

The One Life is the sum total of all that we can see - it is every person, animal, plant and mineral. The One Life is the reason for the existence of all these things. If the One Life had not thought us into being, we would not be here.

The One Life is also more than this. It is all that we cannot see. It is the space between us and between all things. It reaches from where we are to the furthest corner of the universe. It stretches away into other dimensions; in fact, this is the source from which it comes. The One Life began in a dimension beyond the known universe, beyond time and space. The One Life of this universe is the result of an idea of an unfathomably immense Thinker.

As the entire universe is part of the One Life, nothing happens that it does not know. The One Life has sent its awareness into all things in order to find out what it is and what it can do. It has experimented with form life in multiple dimensions. It still has experiments to conduct as it changes its mind in response to impacts from beyond itself in inter-universal space. It is the great scientist within the laboratory of Life itself. What can Life accomplish, through varying combinations of thought and form?

We are the One Life becoming conscious of itself as that Life. We are awakening from a dream in which we were one atom absorbed within itself. We now see and relate to other atoms in our surroundings. The atom which is our group self is becoming aware of a greater atom which is the Whole. We are seeing patterns expanding away into infinity. The pattern of what we are is reflected in a higher and greater portion of ourselves. That greater pattern also reflects upon a yet higher level. Our distorted, clumsy and imperfect local patterns expand into purer and more beautiful patterns. We follow the patterns upwards and outwards to view the pattern of what we are destined to become.

The One Life has temporarily subdivided itself into group atoms to evolve particular qualities. Love is the focus of its intention in our portion of the whole. Our task is to explore the ways and means by which Love can be infused into a realm of substance in which it previously was not. This love emanates from beyond the solar system which is our group atom; not just beyond in the sense of space and distance, but beyond in terms of a higher dimension. It streams outwards from the inter-dimensional gateway which is our sun. It contacts the heart chakras of individual and group atoms. As we let it out, we become more and more open to its flow. From us it expands to embrace all that is. The flow has no limit and no end, for the cosmic heart which is its source never ceases to beat and supply. Through and beyond the cosmic heart lie higher dimensions yet, where cosmic love enwraps universes in a fiery bliss of oneness.

When we love with open heart we are aligning with a cosmic pattern and a divine heart-beat. We invite love into our system from the cosmic heart. As the cosmic heart senses our need and our appeal, it releases down the chain of relationship the love that our world needs. Then love spills out through our hearts, into our world and unites all manifestations of the One Life in a connective web of compassion.

Feel the love - be the love - share the love ...

Global Meditation Bulletin November 2003

Special Issue

Dear Friends

This is the latest issue of the Global Meditation Bulletin, with a special focus on the rare and auspicious six-pointed-star "Harmonic Concordance" alignment pattern. This concordance of planetary energies will facilitate the opening of interdimensional portals and heralds a crucial opportunity to focus on the resolution of spiritual healing in our individual selves and our collective family.

As the cosmos brings together these planets as a gift to our individual and planetary soul, may we accept them graciously and in return give of ourselves to our spiritual self-realisation. These precious spiritual gifts that are bestowed to us, even as we sleep in the night of our soul, do not need to be paid for, as the universe has already paid for them. Now is the time to shape up and work with the spirit within to fulfil the dreams carried in our hearts. The whole of the universe is waiting, like our ancestors before us, for these dreams to be danced alive, and the time has come in this cosmic dance for us to make our move.

To calculate your time differences from GMT and other time zones, visit

>From November 5 to November 11, the planets will conspire around the Earth to form a six-pointed star pattern, an alignemnt pattern that will peak at 01.13 GMT on November 9 (or 8:13pm EST on Nov 8 in New York), at the exact time of the Full Moon and a Total Lunar Eclipse. Amazingly, the Full Moon/Eclipse is part of the six-pointed star alignment pattern, and by virtue of this, will amplify and sustain the energies of that pattern. The stages of the Lunar Eclipse are as follows, times in GMT:

Nov 8: 22:15 - Moon enters penumbra Nov 8: 23:33 - Moon enters umbra Nov 9: 01:06 - Total eclipse begins. Nov 9: 01:19 - Middle of eclipse Nov 9: 01:31 - Total eclipse ends Nov 9: 03:05 - Moon leaves umbra Nov 9: 04:22 - Moon leaves penumbra

Many thousands will be marking this celestial event across the world in meditation, prayer, ceremony, sacred sound, and deed. The main global linkup time will centre on 01:13 GMT. We would suggest that you actually dedicate the whole day to marking this event, and gather for as much of the duration of the Eclipse as possible. We suggest that you link up globally in meditation for the duration of the Total Eclipse between 01:06 GMT and 01:31 GMT.

For a comprehensive list of world events dedicated to this moment, see Barbara Woolf's excellent Global Meditation site at

This six-pointed star alignment pattern has been dubbed the "Harmonic Concordance" by John Mirehiel to link it by association with a ceremonial predecessor, the Harmonic Convergence of 1987. "Like its spiritual ancestor, the Harmonic Convergence of 1987, The Harmonic Concordance of 2003 also is a call to the Spirit of humankind to awaken to the idea that we are, in fact, spiritual beings sharing a physical experience. Consequently, ceremonies and celebrations in honor of this idea are now being scheduled at sacred sites and pilgrimage places throughout the world." For more information on John's work, see

A six-pointed star pattern marks a rare concordance (concur-dance) of planetary energies, also known in astrology as a Grand Sextile, which helps to promote a harmonious resolution to polarity based conflict in human consciousness. The six-pointed star is a well known symbol for the fusion of polarities, especially that of spirit and matter. The six-pointed star teaches us that by moving beyond the dualistic thinking of the rational mind, we can experience the truth of our existence on Earth, which is that the spiritual and physical are different aspects of the same thing. By stilling the mind and moving into the Now, we open ourselves up to experiencing this truth, and make the breakthrough that enables us to move forward in our self-realisation, and live with greater love, wisdom, and power.

A Grand Sextile is significant because it represents the harmonious and creative integration of planetary forces. Three awareness-revealing oppositions, which on their own would be difficult to resolve, simultaneously trine and sextile each other, making their resolution suddenly much more possible due to the supportive flow of energy that these trines and sextiles bring. Within the Grand Sextile we find 3 Mystic Rectangles and 5 Kites - alignment-patterns which are associated with the raising of consciousness. The last significant Grand Sextile occurred on July 22 in 1995, during a historic period of social and world change - but this did not feature a Full Moon, let alone a Total Eclipse. Yet both Grand Sextiles fall in Earth and Water elements, keeping us focused on resolving our earthly-based emotional issues so that we become more fully realised as vehicles of spiritual light.

I will approach this reading by examining each awareness revealing opposition in turn. A Grand Sextile is made up of two Grand Trines, which are the two equilateral triangles within a six-pointed star. Each opposition links one point of a Grand Trine to the point of the other Grand Trine that is directly opposite. In other words it denotes the path of integration that is paved between the two forces. Please note that oppositions are not bad alignments in astrology. Let's put the record straight: alignments are only alignments, it is the judgement of the ego that perceives them as good or bad. In fact, the oppositions are crucial to raising consciousness by stimulating the interaction of polarities. Our job is to move out of duality and to bring the two polarities together into unity.

The first opposition consists of Full Moon in Taurus opposite Sun in Taurus. The Earth casts its shadow on the Moon during the Lunar Eclipse because the two bodies are in direct alignment on the vertical and horizontal planes. This precise alignment is why Lunar Eclipses are so powerful. It also represents a merging of dimensions. The darkening moon is like a cosmic mother, stepping out of the light so that we are encouraged to find our own light within. While the conscious face of us may be in darkness, we need to realise that the unconscious face of us is holding the light. That is the symbolism the Earth gives us, and this should hopefully clear up much of the confusion about eclipses that is generated as a result of superstition and ignorance. We are being asked to look within to find our light. The Full Moon is in Taurus, attuning us to the earthly plane and the value of our physical incarnation. The Sun is in Scorpio, taking us to the depths of our being and urging us to express our light to transform and empower ourselves. Interestingly, on October 28 this year, not long after the Sun had entered Scorpio, the Sun sent out a massive solar flare - the third most powerful since records began - that surprised everyone because the sunspot cycle had peaked in 2000. This stream of accelerated charged particles, thirteen times the size of the Earth, heading towards our Earth, represents a transformation of consciousness in response to an intensified urge to spiritual enlightenment. Together the Sun and Moon on November 8-9 encourage us to move beyond materialistic entrapment so that we can honour our highest potential on Earth by expressing our spiritual light in form. The energies of Taurus teach us to value our feeling nature while the energies of Scorpio assist us to raise our vibrations so that we may move beyond emotional entrapment. Here we are helped to start feeling again so that we can move beyond the emotional resistances that separate us from the state of love and joy that is our birthright. There is common sense to this: we can not move beyond what we are not prepared to feel.

The second opposition consists of Saturn in Cancer opposite Chiron in Capricorn. This makes concrete the theme of emotional wounding and suppression. Saturn in Cancer focuses us on our emotional blocks, and teaches us the responsibility to grow emotionally, and to embody our feeling nature in heart-felt ways. Chiron in Capricorn helps us to understand limitation and the whole issue of authority and responsibility from a healing perspective. To own our authority (author-ity) means to be authors of our own lives. It requires responsibility (response-ability), which simply means the ability to respond to our needs. This opposition will bring up for healing the emotional wounds created by the forces of control and suppression, whether they stem from our own fear or the abuse of external authorities. It is time to wake up to the fact that when we abdicate our responsibility to external authorities, we are denying ourselves the opportunity to create our own reality. This opposition presents an opportunity to heal our attitude to authority and responsibility, and to heal the fear and resistance we have to contacting fully our emotional nature, which has been so feared by the patriarchal forces of control. The more responsible we are, the more we are able to develop emotionally and to structure our reality in a way that enhances our self-realisation. Saturn is a great teacher, and amazingly it falls in the degree of Cancer that is associated with the Sabian Symbol of the Wise Old Man facing the direction from which spiritual-cosmic forces enter the Earth-sphere. Interestingly, Saturn is within a degree of Sirius, while Chiron is exactly opposite Sirius. This represents an aligment to cosmic truth and will assist us to embody our higher feminine energies and to structure our reality in a way that enhances our spiritual self-realisation on Earth. As a matter of interest, Chiron falls in the degree of Capricorn that is associated with the Sabian Symbol of a toy-filled children's ward in a hospital. This represents the responsibility to provide structures and environments that nurture and heal our inner spiritual child. Saturn will be opposite Chiron for the next three years, showing that the lesson of owning our responsibility and authority is a major issue and focus for us spiritually. It will also assist us to bring healing energies to the structures of society, for as we each respond to our drive to spiritual self-realisation, our relationships change, and the reality we create in society is transformed.

The third opposition consists of Jupiter in Virgo opposite Mars in Pisces. Jupiter in Virgo represents the growth of service and healing in response to Earth-based wisdom. It teaches us to distinguish between spiritless work and spiritual service. In short, it is asking us to expand our concept of what needs serving. As we do so, we will realise that our deepest needs stem from the deepest part of ourselves: the soul that created a physical reality in order to attain greater spiritual self-realisation. The needs of the ego are then seen in a much different light as we learn the true source of our identity. Mars in Pisces is a call to spiritual action. It shows us how our will becomes weakened and misdirected in the absence of our spiritual alignment. Mars has the potential to energise our spiritual ideals and with the support of Jupiter, challenge us to move out of apathy and delusion towards greater spiritual fulfilment. Interestingly, Mars has been in Pisces since June 2003, and on August 27 made its closest approach to Earth in some 60,000 years, signalling the timely need to regain our spiritual will, empowerment, and enthusiasm for the purpose of serving the spiritual evolution of ourselves and our collective planetary consciousness. Mars is literally proclaiming that the time of spiritual empowerment is now. Interestingly, on the day of the Grand Sextile, Mars will move past the point it went retrograde at the end of July, signalling a time to move forward after aligning our energies spiritually. It is thought that the close approach of Mars may well have influenced the solar flare activity of the Sun, favouring the enhancement of spiritual self-expression. The Sabian Symbol for the degree of Mars will be of "Men traveling a narrow path, seeking illumination".

In summary, then, these three oppositions, held together supportively in a six-pointed-star matrix of light, represent a concordance of alchemical energies that will assist us to develop in responsibility and to heal emotionally so that we can transform our earthly experience and fulfil our impulse for spiritual self-realisation on Earth. By focusing on these themes at the time of the Harmonic Concordance, we will not only enhance our capacity for spiritual growth and healing, but will set up with those joining us in this sacred intent a resonant field that will help the collective consciousness to respond to the opportunity for greater healing and spiritual self-realisation. Interestingly, Uranus, the planet that helps us to align to our higher self, turns stationary direct at 12.44 GMT on November 8, after moving retrograde since July. Whenever a planet reaches its station point (stops in relative motion to the Earth), its power is expanded in potential, like an elastic band being stretched to its limit, and its energy is intensified. It is a pause in its motion, like the holding of a cosmic breath, in which sacred intentions can be set in ceremonial power with added effectiveness. Turning direct in relative motion to the Earth will enhance our capacity to make positive changes and realignments, and to awaken to the spiritual truths of our being.

"The choice is not between wind power and unspoiled nature. The choice is between wind power and the destruction of the world's biology." - Bill McKibben

Confessions of a bird lover: Without wind farms, world's bird populations are headed for a huge crash, probable mass extinctions

By Mike Tidwell

Recently in Maryland there have been some wildly exaggerated concerns and wholly unsupported claims about projected wind farm impacts on birds in West Virginia, Maryland and across the globe. As an avid lifelong birder who has written two books devoted in large part to habitat loss and other threats to birds in this hemisphere (Amazon Stranger, 1996/Bayou Farewell, 2003); and as a 2003 recipient of an Audubon Naturalist Society "Conservation" award for my work promoting clean energy, I want to address some of these concerns.

The point I want to stress is that the current and projected cumulative impacts of wind turbines in America on bird populations is amazingly low while the ecological crisis wind power addresses - rapid global warming - is the ultimate threat to all birds everywhere. Indeed, according to a rapidly growing group of preeminent climate scientists and other observers, global warming could bring the extinction of a wide range of bird species worldwide within our lifetime.

The truth about birds and wind power

First, a few facts. There are about 15,000 wind turbines in America today and they cause roughly 33,000 documented bird fatalities per year, according to the National Wind Coordinating Committee (a consensus group of environmentalists, utilities, wind companies, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and others). That's just 2.2 fatalities per year per turbine. For some perspective, cats kill one billion birds annually just in the U.S. (Worldwatch Institute) and pesticides kill 67 million U.S. birds per year (American Bird Conservancy). Given the extremely low fatality rate from wind turbines, even if America got a full half of its electricity from wind power, the annual cumulative bird fatalities would be around one half of one percent of what U.S. cats kill per year!

It is this extremely low fatality rate that has led so many environmental organizations to enthusiastically support properly sited wind farms in our region (Montgomery County Sierra Club, MaryPIRG, Maryland Interfaith Climate Alliance, Chesapeake Climate Action Network) and nationally (Natural Resources Defense Council, World Wildlife Fund, National Sierra Club, League of Women Voters). Also, Bill McKibben, whose integrity and sensitivity to ecological concerns is second to none among U.S. environmentalists, has just given wind power an extraordinarily passionate endorsement in Orion magazine at

Europeans, who are generally much more environmentally minded than Americans, are moving forward rapidly with wind farms both offshore and on land. Denmark will soon get 50 percent of its electricity from wind and Ireland is building an offshore wind park that will generate 10 percent of the nation's electricity.

But what about birds in our Appalachian Mountains?

Despite the proliferation of bird-safe wind power worldwide, there is still a small group of critics who make amazingly unsubstantiated claims that wind farms in the Appalachian mountain region of Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania will kill "tens of thousands of migratory birds."

Well, let's look at the evidence from the only Appalachian ridge top wind farm so far constructed in our region: The "Mountaineer" project on Backbone Mountain West Virginia. The 44 turbines of this farm have been in constant operation since December 2002. The number of documented bird kills so far?

Thirty! That's all. And 27 of those came on one of the foggiest nights ever recorded in the region, May 23rd, when 100 cars piled up in western Maryland killing two people and injuring dozens more. So even under the worst possible conditions, and at the height of the spring bird migration, only 27 birds were confirmed killed and virtually all the birds struck just two windmills close to which a bird-attracting light had been improperly left on near a substation. Without the light, there's a good chance no fatalities would have occurred or the fatalities would have been much, much lower.

But, the wind critics say, there could soon be wind projects all over our Maryland mountain ridges, "industrial wind facilities" run wild, with no adequate standards for placement and insufficient study of potential bird impacts.

Sadly, this too is a gross exaggeration. Last fall, with the firm support of avid bird defenders like myself, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources developed a binding set of 21 conditions strictly governing the siting of wind farms in the state so as to carefully mitigate impacts on birds and other wildlife while providing various additional safeguards. As a result, Maryland now has the distinction of having some of the toughest environmental standards for wind farms in the country. This is something we can all be proud of.

Nonetheless, the small group of Maryland wind critics have found it necessary to join critics in other states in appealing to an unlikely ally, the Bush administration, in applying even more regulations on wind farms. Of course, wind power competes with the oil and coal interests championed by Bush, and the wind industry does infinitely less harm to the environment (including birds) than Bush's favored friends in the fossil fuel business.

Obviously, the opportunities for political manipulation of wind farm laws by Bush ideologues (who care nothing about global warming and who instead favor wars in Iraq for oil and decapitating mountains in West Virginia for coal) stands as a real threat. The conflict of interest couldn't be greater.

The real bird killer: Global warming

As a vocal minority fights wind farms nationwide based on NIMBY-istic "visual impacts" fears and exaggerated bird concerns, the planet continues to bake. Anyone who asserts that climate change isn't happening or is happening slowly enough that we can take our time switching to renewable energy, simply isn't following the science.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the largest body of scientists ever brought together to study a single issue, projects that the planet will warm between three and ten degrees Fahrenheit by 2100 unless we switch to clean energy very, very soon. Even the oil-dominated Bush administration has produced two major reports (sadly ignored) confirming the IPCC's assessment.

Even under mid-range warming, the impacts on birds due to habitat loss will be staggering. Projected sea-level rise of 1-3 feet will drown millions of acres of Louisiana wetlands that serve as critical habitat for millions of the same migratory birds that so concern wind critics in Maryland. Similar devastation will come to the Chesapeake Bay marshes where the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge has already lost 30 percent of its bird habitat to sea-level rise in the 20th century. Then there's the projected drying up of prairie "pothole" wetlands so critical to migratory ducks all across the Great Plains. And this is to say nothing of impacts from more frequent and severe droughts, floods, hurricanes and forest fires - all projected by the IPCC.

(To read the IPCC's historic "Third Assessment Report," go to

The challenge is clear

Clearly, as Bill McKibben recently wrote: "The choice is not between wind power and unspoiled nature. The choice is between wind power and the destruction of the world's biology."

The challenge is clear. We must end our deep denial about the deepening reality of global warming and its impacts. We must instead embrace the full promise of clean, renewable wind power as both the savior of the birds we love and the savior of ourselves.

Bipartisan Drive Starts in the States, Gains New Focus and Momentum in Washington - Remarks by David G Hawkins, Director, NRDC Climate Center Concerning today's 43-55 U.S. Senate Vote on McCain-Lieberman Gobal Warming Pollution Bill. "The vote marks a turning point in the global warming debate. For the first time, Americans know where their Senators stand on this critical issue. The strong,bi-partisan support for the McCain-Lieberman bill shows the growing number of Senators who reject a voluntary, do-nothing approach. This vote is a wake-up call for the White House and those big polluting industries that have been fighting to stop progress at all costs. "The bill combines sensible standards with a proven, market-based system that fosters maximum technological innovation at minimum cost. It is a serious and balanced approach that has strong support from both business and the environmental community. The opposition to the bill is based on pessimism that is alien to the American spirit. We don't cover our eyes in the face of a challenge; the American way is that when we see a problem, we fix it. "Today's vote brings momentum that is going to get harder and harder for the "just-say-no" crowd to handle. Today's vote comes on the heels of strong pressure from state governors in both parties. In California, Governor-elect Schwarzenegger has promised to enforce and defend the landmark law requiring car companies to cut global warming emissions. Governors in 13 states - from both parties - are developing global warming action plans. It's time for national action. CLIP

Antarctic Ice Shelf is Melting Rapidly, Scientists Warn (Oct 31),13993,1074718,00.html
A giant ice shelf the size of Scotland is melting rapidly in the Antarctic, scientists have warned today. Two sections of the Larsen ice shelf collapsed in 1995 and 2002. Now satellite measurements have confirmed that it has thinned by as much as 18 metres more than usual in the past decade, because of a warmer ocean. The report comes a day after a University College London report in the journal Nature confirmed a 40% thinning of the ice in the Arctic Ocean in the past 30 years. Andrew Shepherd of Cambridge University and colleagues from University College London, Bristol, and the Antarctic Institute of Argentina, report in the journal Science that they have been mapping changes in the Larsen shelf, on the east of the Antarctica peninsula, since 1992. The shelf covers approximately 27,000 sq miles and is on average 300 metres deep. Its faster rate of melting is releasing an extra 21bn tonnes of icy water into the oceans each year. This is equivalent to eight times the annual flow of the river Thames. CLIP

Top Israeli Officer Says Tactics Are Backfiring

JERUSALEM, Oct. 30 -- Israel's senior military commander told columnists for three leading newspapers this week that Israel's military tactics against the Palestinian population were too repressive and were fomenting explosive levels of "hatred and terrorism" that might become impossible to control.

In remarks that suggest a dramatic split with the approach of the current government, Lt. Gen. Moshe Yaalon, chief of staff of the Israeli armed forces, said that crackdowns, curfews and roadblocks in the West Bank and Gaza Strip were crippling the lives of innocent Palestinians and that the military's tactics were now threatening Israel's own interests.

The military chief directed most of his complaints at restrictions imposed on the West Bank four weeks ago, after a suicide bomber from the West Bank city of Jenin killed 21 people in a restaurant in the Israeli port of Haifa. Yaalon said the current curfews and travel restrictions, some of the tightest since the outbreak of the Palestinian uprising in September 2000, were preventing Palestinians from carrying out critical olive and other agricultural harvests, hampering thousands of children from attending school, increasing hatred for Israel and strengthening terrorist organizations.

"In our tactical decisions, we are operating contrary to our strategic interests," Nahum Barnea, columnist for the Yedioth Aharonoth newspaper, quoted Yaalon as telling him.

Yaalon also said he believed the Israeli government contributed to the failure of Mahmoud Abbas as Palestinian prime minister because it was too "stingy" and was unwilling to make concessions to bolster his authority.

Yaalon took his complaints public after several weeks of security staff meetings in which he advocated easing the military restrictions on Palestinians. But in each session he was overruled by Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz and the intelligence chief, Avi Dichter, who argued that loosening controls on travel in the territories could allow Palestinian militants to slip into Israel, according to two military officers familiar with the internal disagreements. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the final arbiter in the meetings, sided with Mofaz and Dichter, the officers said.

"He felt it was his public duty to say that if we don't do something about this, then it will explode in our face," said one senior military official. "The war against terror is taking place on the backs of civilians."

Sharon and Mofaz, who both advocate stringent and wide-ranging responses to Palestinian suicide bombings and other attacks, reportedly were infuriated that the chief of staff aired his complaints publicly.

An official of Sharon's government, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that what Yaalon said "is legitimate," but that by making his case to the news media, "I don't think he said the right thing to the right people." He added that Sharon and Mofaz were "not happy" and that "it would not happen again."

But Yaalon's remarks, echoed by equally vociferous criticism from other military officers interviewed Thursday, revealed a schism between military and political leaders over the government's handling of a conflict that many officers and soldiers say they believe is not winnable through military force, incites more terrorism than it prevents and mistreats innocent Palestinians. Almost 900 Israeli citizens or foreign residents of Israel have been killed in attacks by Palestinians, and Israeli military forces have killed about 2,500 Palestinians.

"We're in a more serious situation that the U.S. was in Vietnam," said reserve Brig. Gen. Yiftah Spector, one of the most decorated fighter pilots in Israeli military history. Spector was grounded as a flight instructor last month after signing a letter, along with 26 other reserve pilots, calling the military's targeted killings of militants in crowded civilian neighborhoods "illegal and immoral."

Israel's military policies in the Palestinian territories, Spector said, are "opposing everything I was raised on" during his career in the air force.

While Yaalon's staff attempted to make a distinction between his concerns and those of the pilots, military officials and analysts said frustration and disillusionment within the military -- not only over tactics that punish innocent civilians but also with the stalled peace process -- had spurred large numbers of troops, from infantrymen in the field to reserve officers to the chief of staff, to speak more openly against the policies of Sharon's government.

"We feel there's a real problem here," said one military officer, who agreed with the chief of staff's assessment. "The public should be made aware how we feel. There should be a public debate in Israel on where we're going and how far we can push the Palestinian public."

Yaalon also criticized the government's decision to expand the barrier being built between the West Bank and Israel deep into Palestinian territory to encompass more Jewish settlements and cut off tens of thousands of Palestinians from their agricultural lands and families. The Finance Ministry estimated this week that the barrier would cost about $2.3 billion, more than three times the original estimate. CLIP

Mahathir’s Advice to Jews§ion=0&article=34426&d=31&m=10&y=2003
KUALA LUMPUR, 31 October 2003 - Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said yesterday that the Jewish people's past sufferings in Europe were no excuse for taking Arab land and persecuting Muslims. The78 -year-old Malaysian statesman, who steps down today after22 years in power, provoked protests from Western leaders two weeks ago by saying that the Jews had emerged from the Holocaust to "rule this world by proxy." Mahathir said yesterday that the Jews were now guilty of persecuting Muslims in the same way that Europeans had persecuted Jews down the ages. "They must never think they are the chosen people who cannot be criticized," Mahathir said. "They suffered a great deal in the past. They were killed, they were massacred and finally there was the Holocaust. We sympathize with them. "We are very sad to see how the Jews were ill-treated by the Europeans. They must remember when they were ill-treated by Europeans they had to run to Muslim countries to seek refuge. "The Muslims never ill-treated the Jews, but now they are behaving against the Muslims exactly the way the Europeans behaved toward them."

Is Israel losing its army?
With pilots refusing to attack Palestine, the top brass briefing against hard-line policies and outrage at conscription, the Israeli army is at crisis point. By Robert Tait in Jerusalem

Five Israelis were seen filming as jet liners ploughed into the Twin Towers on September 11
Were they part of a massive spy ring which shadowed the 9/11 hijackers and knew that al-Qaeda planned a devastating terrorist attack on the USA? THERE was ruin and terror in Manhattan, but, over the Hudson River in New Jersey, a handful of men were dancing. As the World Trade Centre burned and crumpled, the five men celebrated and filmed the worst atrocity ever committed on American soil as it played out before their eyes. Who do you think they were? Palestinians? Saudis? Iraqis, even? Al-Qaeda, surely? Wrong on all counts. They were Israelis ˆ and at least two of them were Israeli intelligence agents, working for Mossad, the equivalent of MI6 or the CIA. Their discovery and arrest that morning is a matter of indisputable fact. To those who have investigated just what the Israelis were up to that day, the case raises one dreadful possibility: that Israeli intelligence had been shadowing the al-Qaeda hijackers as they moved from the Middle East through Europe and into America where they trained as pilots and prepared to suicide-bomb the symbolic heart of the United States. And the motive? To bind America in blood and mutual suffering to the Israeli cause.

Israel to Raze With Robot Bulldozers (Oct. 30)
JERUSALEM - The giant Caterpillar bulldozer, used by the Israeli military to destroy Palestinian homes in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, now comes with a controversial new feature: remote control. Israel says its remote-control technology will lower risks to soldiers. But Palestinians fear it will lead to more frequent raids using the machines and make the three-year conflict even bloodier. The remote-controlled D-9 bulldozer and a remote-control version of the Humvee, equipped with machine guns, were developed by the Israeli army and the Technion Institute of Technology. Both machines are U.S.-made, with Israeli modifications. They are expected to go into service in the next few weeks.

Subject: The Bees are Dying
Date: Mon, 3 Nov 2003

Beloved friends,

Please take heed of the following information  and from the Love within your Heart, ask Spirit to guide you and all of us in the healing of this grave issue.
Love and Blessings,

Not only is his is happening by the bees being poisoned by the farmers unknowingly, it is also being done by the chemtrails. I could never understand why people weren't concerned! But now at the last hour, they are taking notice... No bees, no plants. (Sue)

The bees die... and the planet too!

The planet is the common good of humanity. Taking care of it - gives life a meaning.

It is necessary to make the farmers understand what their
responsibility is, but they seldom have Internet. The bees are the second factor of life on our planet. There is nothing left but our awareness which can act on the totalitarian power of money. It is necessary to react, to transmit this important message to all and to find solutions because it is as serious as the war of Iraq. This poisoning is a planetary genocide.

The bees die... and the planet too!

The scandals that are appearing everywhere are nothing compared to the unsaid catastrophes which are being prepared because of the criminal unawareness of some world lobbies specialized in the massive poisoning of nature. The extermination of the bees by products officially declared as being non toxic is another example of this lack of responsibility.

I am speaking about the extermination of the bees - of which depend 80 % of the pollination of cultivated plants - by the Imidaclopride that the Bayer's firm sells under the name of Gaucho to the farmers to coat the seeds and to protect them from certain diseases...

This product paralyses the insects such as the bees which
cannot join the hive and therefore die. When they do succeed, the honey which results from it is toxic (because it's poisoned).

In less than three years, 450 000 hives were thus lost and the production of honey fell from 45 000 tons to 25 000 tons in France. In Alsace, the bee-keepers are regarded as disaster victims because of the Bayer products. In addition, it should be known that in Europe, approximately 4 000 vegetable species have their life assured thanks to pollination of the bees.

During this time, Bayer remains indifferent to the complaints, and does not hesitate, in it's arrogance, to deny the facts, and to claim the biodeterioration of it's product in the year but this one contaminates several successive harvests.

Recently, the Aventis group decided to divide the benefits of the devil with Bayer and to put on the market a similar product, Fipronil sold under the name of Regent.

Obviously, in spite of the imminent ecological catastrophe which these products are undoubtedly carrying, no government refused to give all the legal authorizations.

Is there a responsible organization somewhere able to take, in the name of the reason and for our children and of the planet, a decree of immediate prohibition of the use of these poisons?

Warning, Gaucho and the Regent are also sold in supermarket for the gardens. Look at the composition of the products and do not take part of this catastrophe.

Let us remember the words of Albert Einstein: "No bees, no food for mankind. The bee is the base of life on this earth".

The farmers must become aware that with Gaucho, they cut the branch on which they are sitting. Other solutions exist. In the mean time, the thousands of decimated hives do not give the right to their owners to receive any compensation. Due to this, only in the Low-Rhine, more than 100 new bee-keepers cease their activity each year.

Rome, August 6 - Italian bees are been killed off by the millions and environmentalists and honey producers warned today this was a sign of a worrisome turn for the environment. The National Beekeepers' Association UNAAPI said the country was witnessing a silent "slaughter of bees" and that Italian honey production would plummet by at least 50% this year. "Bees are our 'sentinels of the environment', very much like butterflies and fireflies. Unlike ants, termites or coachroaches they are extremely delicate and will not adapt to a negative environment," UNAAPI Chairman Francesco Panella told ANSA. "A bee does not survive contact with toxic substances and dies before it even reaches the hive. Pure honey, in fact, is nature's real wonder product," said Panella, distressed that the shocking mortality rate has not yet shaken the authorities and the public out of their complacency. He claims the situation in Italy is far worse than in neighbouring France where in June environmentalists and the influential daily Le Monde drummed up a campaign highlighting the plight of French bees, claiming they were being felled by a new high-tech pesticide being marketed by a major multinational.

The day the music died

October 31, 2003

A growing list of top-flight rockers are cashing in by using their music to sell products, laments ad copywriter Jake Dudas

When you work in advertising long enough, you see just about everything; or, more accurately, everything over again. New ideas are few and far between. Take a look at any billboard-laden street and you'll see the same tired notions redressed a hundred different ways from last Sunday.

Recently, there's been a disturbing trend in advertising: the growing use of musicians. Major musicians, ones who defined generations. Ones who immortalized freedom. Ones who gave us solace, hope and an escape from the overbearing commercial machine in which we all live. True, celebrity endorsements are nothing new. However, they've usually been relegated to the "where are they now?" file. Today, it's a different story. Many legitimate, genuine, brilliant, and financially successful, contemporary musicians are selling out. This is nothing short of tragic.

I'd say this trend started with Microsoft's purchase of the Rolling Stones hit "Start Me Up" for $13 million (which was an arbitrary joke on the part of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards who figured no one would pay such a ludicrous amount for a 30-second sound bite). Since then, we have seen many celebrated talents cross the line from star to cheesy salesperson.

My first personal killer was Lenny Kravitz, the god-fearing, modern soul-freedom icon who made it big with "Let Love Rule." I was paralyzed when he appeared on Nissan ads, adding the refrain: "The Pathfinder rules." The list has now grown to epic proportions including: The Who ("You Might Get Fooled Again," this time into a gas-guzzling SUV); Sting (destroying the Amazon he helped save in the new sleek vehicle he's touting); Sheryl Crow ("You're An Original" ... providing you drive a Jeep).

There's more: Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson (Nashville "outlaws" now uniformly clad in white Gap T-shirts); B.B. King (fries with that burger?); the Beach Boys ("Surfin' G.A.P."); and Led Zeppelin ("Been A Long Time Since I Drove A Cadillac").

The list, unfortunately, goes on. I won't even include the new breed (you know who they are), which has ads for soft drinks and automakers shot before their videos hit MTV.

Make no mistake; these artists know that rock 'n' roll is not about car ads. With so much money at stake, however, the rules appear to be changing, leaving us asking: Why are they paid so much?

Advertising is "uncooling" that which used to be cool, leaving a quintessential expression of freedom hanging out to dry. Simply put, advertisers have run into the fundamental reality of their craft. Advertising, despite everything it espouses to be, is not cool. It never has been. It never will be. It is what it is. Not to say that it can't be clever, entertaining or interesting - but advertising will never define cool. A slick vodka ad is no different than a vacuum cleaner sales pitch. The vodka actor or model is just wearing a nicer suit.

But we, the consumers, have the logical desire to capture the essence of cool, which happens to be ... The musician. The renegade. The reckless abandon that can be found only in art that is free from commerce. You can't blame the advertisers. And unfortunately, advertisers are being quite successful in capturing that cool - at great financial cost, and an even greater moral and spiritual one.

Corporations today are powerful enough, it appears, to coerce brilliant musicians into making a mockery of themselves. Evidently, success and artistic integrity aren't enough. Those qualities take a back seat to hypocrisy and greed.

The irony is that as everyone jumps on the bandwagon, this subtle advertising trick will wear itself out. Celebrity endorsements will become the norm. The high cost of hiring big stars will be passed on to the consumer and an art form that once represented freedom will be reduced to yet another sales tool. Advertising is uncooling that which used to be cool.

Robby Krieger of The Doors captured this notion quite poignantly. In the face of more than $4.5 million in recent advertising offers, he had this to say: "When I heard from one fan that our songs saved him from committing suicide, I realized that's it - we can't sell off these songs." Unfortunately, such gallantry is not the norm and it's frightening to chart the collective shift in attitudes towards music.

Consider Cameron Crowe's quote from Led Zeppelin's 1990 box set: "... They went out on top ... with complete integrity. There would be no downward slide, no selling of `Whole Lotta Love' to a detergent company." John Bonham must be rolling over in his grave.

Thanks to the marriage of eager advertisers and greedy musicians, a mainstream art form that once inspired change and vision may one day truly be dead. The worst part is that most people seem quite content in burying themselves right along with it.

Subject: Poem for Peace
Date: 1 Nov 2003

The poem, below, was written by Nicholas Peters just after the outbreak of World War II in 1939. Peters, who lived for some years at Grande Pointe, Manitoba had emigrated from Russia in 1925 as a boy of 10 and had seen firsthand the horrors of revolution and war in his native country. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and trained as a flying officer. He died on the night of March 7-8, 1945 after his aircraft was hit by enemy fire. The poem is from a collection of Peters' work entitled Another Morn.

The Peters family has given permission to have the poem published.

I gaze into the world with sorrowing eyes
And see the wide-abounding fruits of hate.
We fight, we say, for peace, and find
The wars we make
To be a spring of hate and source of future wars.

Is there no peace for man?
No hope that this accursed flow
Of blood may cease?
Is this our destiny: to kill and maim
For peace?
Or is this `peace' we strive to gain
A thin unholy masquerade
Which, when our pride, our greed, our gain is
touched too far,
Is shed, and stands uncovered what we are?

Show me your light, O God
That I may fight for peace with peace
And not with war;
To prove my love with love,
And hate no more!

Author: Nicholas Peters

Some ten years ago, my wife and I stood beside Peters' grave in an Allied war cemetery in Germany, with a huge sword on a cross backdrop, and grieved for him and the countless others buried there "row on row" in those graveyards of Europe. Quietly they lie now, sometimes friend and foe close together with so much of life still waiting to be lived. Most of the last verse of Peters' poem is inscribed on his tombstone with "me" and "I" changed to "US" and "WE".

Yours sincerely,

Stan Penner

THE FOLLOWING WAS FOUND IN THE LATEST ISSUE OF MY FRIEND AND FOCUS GROUP CO-FOUNDER BOUDEWIJN WEGERIF'S EXCELLENT "WHAT MATTERS" NEWSLETTER IN WHICH HE DESCRIBES HIS BATTLE WITH BONE CANCER AND HOW HE IS ADAPTING TO HIS FEW MONTHS OF LIFE LEFT, AMONGST OTHER THINGS, AND MAKE INTERESTING PARALLEL WITH THE WORLD'S SITUATION: "Perhaps that is the challenge of this crisis time for the world; with close bonds of spiritual kinship developing between those who are at the cutting edge where dying and caring come together. There is so much pain and suffering, driving us over the edge of normality as a collective, to a place of discovering who we really are individually - a place from which we will quite naturally "realize that power must be kept open, fluid and free"; a place in which the aim will be "not to possess power but to radiate it", as per Henry Miller's vision." The President's Drug Problem

Nov 2, 2003

"Our Man in Nirvana" is how the New York Times headlined an op-ed column (1/22/92) detailing the fact that President Bush has been taking benzodiazepene in the form of the prescription drug Halcion when he travels. Halcion is banned in England and three other countries. "When Halcion hits you," according to the Times column, "it's as if an angel of the Lord appears in your bedroom and tells you that nothing is important, that everything you were worried about is happening on Mars and that nirvana, Lethe and the warm arms of mother are all waiting for you. People who have used heroin tell me Halcion is better than heroin for making bad thoughts simply disappear. . . . It clouds judgment and forecloses careful analysis. It makes the user alternately supremely confident and then panicky with an unnameable dread. It causes intense, truly terrifying forgetfulness, as well as a serene bliss about that forgetfulness." This news was not picked up by the Associated Press or the mainstream media despite the warning in the penultimate paragraph that a "president with a chemical between himself and reality is the last thing America needs."

Journalists traveling with the president have expressed concern about Bush's zany behavior, irritability and difficulties in syntax, all of which may be related to his drug problem. For example, the president complained to an aide over a microphone he thought had been turned off that he was tired of the snags that had embarrassed him at press conferences. His staff makes a list of questions to be asked by the audience and then hands him prepared answers. One question had been asked out of order and the president later blew his top. "We've got to get this sorted out here," he said testily. "It happened last week, too. . . If I think it's going to be here [on the card with the answer] I don't listen to the question. I just look at this." One day in New Hampshire he giddily referred to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band as "the Nitty Ditty Nitty Gritty Great Bird." He astonished reporters by responding to a question about his political problems with a non sequitur: "Don't cry for me, Argentina!" Asked about the possibility of extending unemployment benefits, he answered: "If a frog had wings, he wouldn't hit his tail on the ground. Too hypothetical."

Consider the shambles of the president's recent trip to the Far East. It began with an obscene and insulting gesture the president gave demonstrators in the Australian capital as he drove by in his armored limousine—equivalent to the rude middle-finger salute in the United States. It culminated in the humiliating scene when he vomited in the lap of the Japanese prime minister at a state dinner. The media placidly accepted the official report that he was suffering from "intestinal flu," although a Des Moines Register columnist pointedly asked "when was the last time you heard of anyone fainting from the flu? . . . Doctor friends tell me this is almost unheard of." Researchers have reported that Halcion can cause anxiety, confusion, psychosis or seizures.

The president's press secretary revealed that Bush used Halcion "to fight jet lag" during his 12-day tour of Australia and Asia. The president's doctor says he will not exclude the possibility of prescribing Halcion in the future "if it is medically indicated."

It was the gossip columnist, Liz Smith—not our bland syndicated establishment-oriented editorial-page columnists or broadcast commentators—who had the guts to ask: "Can our Peerless Leader possibly be the victim of unwitting substance abuse?" Months earlier she had reported that Halcion was the "drug of choice" and was "being taken in epidemic numbers on Air Force One by both an exhausted press and jet-lagged administration insiders." There are drug problems and there are drug problems, but the orthodox press picks and chooses the ones it wants to address—too often in inverse order of their importance.
