Rising Phoenix Series #22: Reaffirming Love and Compassion Over Anger and Fear

Hello everyone

With all the events brewing on our planet right now following the effervescent show of strength of peacemakers around the world to prevent the U.S. Administration from launching the deadliest attack ever launched against innocent human beings, and despite the determination of this government to not let any such protests derail the momentum towards their long-planned conquest of Iraq under the guise of disarming this country and liberating its people, it is absolutely vital that we all keep our cool and not allow the disempowering emotions of fear and anger to become the dominant background in our minds and hearts.

This is a major test of our spiritual resolve to always choose Light and Harmony over the absence of those soulfully innate qualities that are the only means to express Love, the healing antidote to the rising tide of rage and hatred that will inevitably result in the hearts and minds of millions of our brothers and sisters in Arab countries where the pain and outrage resulting from this assault will be felt most acutely.

Millions of beings of Light are being readied on the other side of the veil to assist the souls that will have to make a premature transition in the afterlife in traumatic circumstances that could have lasting consequences if such healing assistance was not made possible. Their sacrifice will serve as a powerful catalyst to finally awaken the entire human family to the utter calamity and spiritual failure that war represents and will help hasten the coming of the day when such manifestations of lower spiritual awareness will be definitely a thing of the past, to be studied by future generations of embodied souls as the chaotic and yet necessary ferment for the resurgence of the divine qualities still dormant today in so many human expressions of the Universal One.

Love, Light and Harmony *will prevail*...

"The time for peace is now. At the dawn of a new millennium, there is no better time to review age old challenges with new thinking that peace is not only the absence of violence, but the presence of a higher evolution of human awareness with respect, trust and integrity toward humankind. Our founding fathers recognized that peace was one of the highest duties of the newly organized free and independent states. But too often, we have overlooked the long-term solution of peace for instant gratification of war. This continued downward spiral of violence must stop to ensure that future generations will live in peace and harmony."

We invite you join with us as we participate in a concerted, strategic grass-roots effort to support Congressman Dennis Kucinich’s proposed legislation to establish a Cabinet-level Department of Peace within the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government." Subject: This is a pivotal week

This is a pivotal week for determining the course of our future. So, we who are committed to the quality of life are again called to favorably influence that course. Therefore, on Sunday morning, March 1, another global meditation is planned. Because of the significance of this time, our participation must be substantial... as sensational as the recent global demonstrations for peace.

Great power is generated when a group synchronizes its focus. Of this, there is no longer any doubt. More and more studies affirm the positive effects on Earth's energy field, the environment, emotional and physical healing, and even decreases of crime in the surrounding areas.

Our focus is joy... feeling joy and imagining a joyful world. Imagining peace is very positive, but the energy of joy is a more active vibration. Joy emanates a very high, vibrant frequency, which offsets the prevalent low negative frequencies of rage, fear, anxiety, apathy, grief and despair.

The easiest way to immediately raise your frequency is to smile. As you smile, you can’t experience low frequency states. Try it. Close your eyes and smile broadly so your teeth show. How do you feel? Imagine the power of millions of people smiling images of a joyful world.

The meditation focus is simple. Several minutes before the appointed time, sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes and breathe deeply and fully. Once you are relaxed, smile widely. Be bold, and delight in this pleasure! Then recall locations experiencing conflict, including the US. Imagine people doing joyful things, like dancing together, playing with children, playing with pets, people in hospitals seeing patients miraculously healing, the elderly feeling younger, and so on. Visualize leaders meeting in peaceful accord with other leaders, and with wise measures to resolve our global challenges.

Imagine Saddam Hussein, his sons and supporters putting away their weapons to collaborate with the UN, American and British leaders to rebuild a healthy Iraq. Imagine world leaders in North Korean to help them re-establish their economic base by manufacturing products that support life.

Continue for 30 minutes. Remember to breathe deeply and fully and march your smile right out there beaming, and use your imagination to influence humanity’s right to happiness.

If you must be somewhere that inhibits you from sitting quietly for the meditation, you can still join us. Simply smile, remember the millions of caring people who are caring about our world, see the good in your environment, and care about the people around you, regardless of what they are doing.

We can all begin now by smiling and imagining the United Nations as a peacekeeping body that endorses and uses only methods that respect life.

The fear and anxiety caused by the possibility of war are the biggest health challenges we face right now. As a physician, I know full well that emotions such as fear and anger impede the healing process and, if held long enough, actually lock us into a vicious cycle that produces more pain, more fear, and more anxiety. This can wreak havoc on our minds, bodies, and spirits. But this doesn't have to be the case.

There are very specific things each of us can do right now to help prevent war and at the same time create peace in our bodies, minds, and spirits. I was strongly reminded of this week. Both of my daughters called from their respective colleges with concerns and worries about what they've heard on the news about a possible terrorist attack. One wanted to know what I thought about stockpiling cash, water, and canned goods. Her roommate's mother had sent them warnings. The other daughter wanted to know if I thought it was safe for her to go to NYC this weekend. I told them to go about their lives as usual, while paying attention to their inner guidance. I reassured them that they each had access to guidance from within that would lead them in the right direction if they paid attention. I also gave them a way to think about the current global situation that leads to healing and peace, not further conflict, and shared with them my unshakable belief that each of us has the power, through our thoughts and emotions, to influence the energy of the planet in a way that helps prevent further conflict and also creates peace. Here's what you can do.

1. Use your thoughts wisely. Understand their power. Thoughts have a tendency to become their physical equivalent. This is one of the fundamental laws of the universe. Another one is the law of attraction, which states that "like attracts like." Because it is consciousness that creates reality, the kind of consciousness you hold-your vibration-actually creates the kind of life you're living. It's impossible to create peace and harmony if you're pushing up against a war. It's impossible to create peace and harmony if you're condemning George Bush, Dick Cheney, Colin Powell, etc. You don't have to agree with them, but realize that you'll be contributing to the energy that creates war if you assume an "embattled" mentality concerning them.

The split in our nation right now about war is actually creating more of the energy of war. It's not possible to "fight" for peace without creating war.

2. To create peace, you have to be peaceful. The only way to stop war is to start from within yourself. You must do personal disarmament. The only wayto get and stay peaceful is to concentrate on what brings you peace and resist the downward spiral of negative emotions that blames others for your lack of peace. Remember, that to which you give your attention expands. Although there is no denying that we're in a perilous and frightening position right now, that doesn't mean we are powerless to change it. But the only way to do so is by changing your thoughts and emotions from those of anger, hatred, and fear to those associated with compassion and peace.

Spend 30 seconds several times a day creating a "virtual" reality of what peace would look and feel like. Imagine that it's a year from now and the economy is flourishing. George Bush is radiantly healthy; the governments of the free world are all cooperating to ensure global harmony and peace. And Saddam and Bin Laden and their influence have disappeared from the planet. Imagine all our soldiers back home and reunited with their families. Imagine a global village in which all of us can travel freely and joyously and with understanding and acceptance of each other's cultures. When thinking about Iraq or North Korea, imagine the women and children. Send your energy and compassion to them. Don't try to change the men of these countries. In fact, don't even give them any thought lest you energize them. Withdraw your energy from them so that you will no longer be "feeding" them.

Dozens of studies have documented the fact that our thoughts can and do affect others in profound and measurable ways. When a critical mass of individuals (1 percent of the population) was brought together to practice Transcendental Meditation in various areas of the world, for example, there was a measurable decrease in the number of violent crimes, suicides, terrorist attacks, and even international conflicts worldwide. (Orme-Johnson, et al. (1988). International Peace Project in the Middle East: The effect of the Maharishi technology on the unified field. Journal of Conflict Resolution, vol. 32, (4), pp. 776-812.) There are also over 180 studies that have documented the positive effect of prayer on everything from other humans to yeast cells.

3. Imagine all the angels and non-physical beings who are working on the other side to protect and uplift all of us. Know that they can only do their work in an atmosphere of compassion, not condemnation. The energy of condemnation will prevent them from connecting with the hearts of those who most need their inspiration and love.

4. Avoid watching the news and reading the newspapers. Headlines are designed to keep you afraid and disempowered so that you will buy more papers or watch more TV. Then you get "hooked" on the news because you're waiting for some official "guidance" that will keep you safe and secure. This simply can't happen, because it's not the way the media is set up. The media is designed to get you riled up, so that you remain tuned in to the "chain of pain." The only lasting safety and security come from the peace that you create within yourself. What's safe for one person will be dangerous for another. Remember all the hundreds of stories from September 11, about the people who were supposed to be at the World Trade Center but, for hundreds of different reasons, simply weren't there that day. Tune in to how you are feeling when you've severed the influence of the mass media. This will give you the guidance you're seeking.

5. Finally, know that when you are tuned into your heart, your Inner Wisdom, and God, then your energy lightens up and your vibration literally changes. You become a beacon of light and peace. You become an uplifter and a peacemaker. There's an old saying, "The rising tide lifts all boats. But it won't raise a stone." Stop looking at and thinking about the stones. Join me in raising the tide. And remember the words of the great M. K. Gandhi, "When in despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won; there have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall."

Re: not receiving compilations ...

Hi Jean and all ~

I have -- gratefully -- been receiving your compilations regularly, but i am aware of our < > email address being mysteriously "removed" or "lost" from other lists, despite my repeated attempts and assurances that i've been resubscribed...

Additionally, there are a number of people who are reporting to me that they haven't heard from us in awhile, even though i, too, can verify they are clearly instated on our list ... over the past 6-8 months, hotmail, aol and yahoo subscribers have consistently been blocked in batches from our ListServ messages ... i'd highly recommend that anyone who is using these large servers to notify them as to which specific lists you wish to be receiving from and state clearly for them to remove any and all blocks to those accounts ...

Despite my reluctance to voice this so publicly, i have become keenly aware of the increasing snooping that is occurring on our website, on our computer (even when i'm offline!) and on our phone lines ... it's now become part of our daily background "noise" ...

I'm experiencing other kinds of interferences also occurring, affecting our energy fields and moods ... the only resolution i know for addressing this is to embrace their effects in compassionate and loving acceptance -- going horizontal and fighting them makes it worse -- that keeps the duality game and polarity's divisiveness active and alive ... going vertically to our SourceSelf and BEing in love is truly the only response that consistently works ... LOVE diffuses the separation game by removing the energetic underpinnings so that, literally, polarity doesn't have a leg to stand on ...

With Blessings to Us All for All That We Are

Joie and Our Rainbow Councils

NOTE FROM JEAN: Some people have indicated not having problems or lapses in receiving my compilations, whether on their AOL or hotmail accounts. Yet others have indicated observing such problems on other lists as well. So to me there is no proof yet there is indeed a censorship problem. It may be happening only with specific compilations depending on what they contain. Dunno!

Mr. Bush: I'm Coming for You With Love

by Robert Rabbin

Dear Mr. Bush,

Today is February 17th. Yesterday I attended the peace rally at the Civic Center in San Francisco, along with about 250,000 other people, as diverse a group of human beings as could be found anywhere in the world. I wish you could have been there.

You were a central topic of conversation. Your picture was on wide display, though not always in the most flattering of ways. Had you been there, you would have heard many people denounce you for your foreign policy (and for your domestic policies as well). I do not denounce you.

You would have heard many people express their anger and outrage towards you and your administration. I am neither angry nor outraged.

You would have heard people criticize and condemn you for your implacable desire for war with Iraq. I do not criticize or condemn you.

Had you been there, you might have felt that many people hated you. But I do not hate you - even though you stand alone, belligerent and defiant, against the United Nations, against the will and good judgment of the people of the United States, against the will and good judgment of the people of all nations in the world, against prudence, against reason, against the united voices of religious leaders who are the emissaries of wisdom, against every sacred impulse to preserve life... even though you stand alone against all of this I do not hate you.

I love you and I thank you, for you have shown me who is truly responsible and culpable for the current state of affairs. It is not you. Though it would be easy to make a case against you for bullying the world toward World War III, for threatening all prospects of a peaceful and prosperous future for our nation and for all nations, I will not do so.

You are not to blame. I am. This is what you have shown me, and for this I love you and thank you. You have awakened me to my own responsibility for these gathering storm clouds of misery and calamity.

You have taught me that when I should have been awake, I was asleep. When I should have been involved, I was apathetic. When I should have been paying attention, I was distracted. When I should have been concerned, I was disinterested. When I should have spoken up, I was silent. When I should have been active, I was passive. When I should have stood tall in the name of peace, I crouched meekly. This is what you have taught me.

You have also reminded me of the central teaching of spiritual traditions and paths from around the world and throughout the history of wisdom and truth: We are all One being, connected and interdependent, sharing the same soul of light and love. From this view, which I have confirmed through personal experience, you are my own self. How can I blame you? When I look at you, I see myself.

It is not a self I want to see. When I see myself in you, I become ashamed, for I see how easily I forgot everything I learned in 30 years of spiritual study and practice. When I see myself in you, I remember what it was like to have lost my living connection to love. And I am reminded of how without love there is no empathy; and without empathy, there is no feeling; and without feeling, a person can send 800 cruise missiles into the cribs and carriages of young children whose names and faces do not exist except as pinpoints on a map, without feeling, a person can launch a horror the likes of which have never been seen on this Earth, a person can brush away all good and wise counsel with the brutal hand of military might married to arrogance and ignorance, one can justify unleashing a firestorm of death on a country, half of whose population is under 15 years of age.

Though your motives are clear and indisputable - revenge, imperialism, and profit - these are not the true cause of your intended actions. The true cause is that I have forgotten to live what I know; I have forgotten to love the world in real and telling ways. And now I live as you. And though I speak to you, I am speaking to myself.

You have helped me remember that I am to live what I know, that I am to love the world in real and telling ways. You have helped me awaken from my apathy with a ferocious passion for life. You have touched something deep within me, you have aroused something that is almost fearsome to behold - it is the power of love, too long forgotten and betrayed. And I pray that never again will I forget or betray love.

And with this awakened and aroused passionate power of love I intend to stop you. So, I want you to know that I am coming for you, coming for that part of my own self still steeped in forgetfulness and ignorance. I am coming for you, but not with anger or hate or blame. I am coming for you with love. I am going to bring you back into my greater Self, the one that could never, ever - not in a billion years - think up the things you have thought up. I am coming for you.

One more thing. Do not underestimate the power of love. Do not add this mistake to the long and growing list of mistakes you have already made. Do not think love is weak, or passive, or fearful. Love created the universe. Love is louder and more explosive than missiles, more powerful than fear, more conquering than hate. Love cannot be stopped, but you can be. And you will be, because I am coming to stop you with love.

Hello friends,

Writing to you all from a snow covered Jerusalem, a magical sight indeed.

The Peace Vigil continues to meet every Friday in the Old City in the tourist overlook above the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock. Joining us are Jewish, Arab and international guests, including a recent group from China, to pray for peace in Jerusalem and the whole world. Regular friends of the Vigil include Wasfi from Jordan, Hasan from Turkey, Muhsein from the Muslim quarter, Yochanan Katz, Hanna Aliza Omer and Yitzhak Hayutman of the Academy of Jerusalem (see

One recent Friday, on February 7th, there were over 80 people at the Vigil, joined by the 'Emissaries of Light' who were in the Holy Land to pray for peace on a trip led by 'peace troubadour' James Twyman. We started by sitting silently with the sound of the muezzin chanting the Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa mosque in the backround. When we began the 'talking circle', a dove flew over us and landed on a perch above us and started cooing it's own prayers of peace. The talking piece that James passed around was a wooden peace flute with a carved dolphin on it. Many inspiring and eloquent expressions of hope and peace were shared.

Our friends Alban playing his flute and Elijah his Native American drum entered the circle and we began to dance and sing. A group of Palestinian boys looked on from the steps above our vigil space, and were invited into the center of the circle. Led by Mahmoud, age 10, they each took a turn playing the peace flute and then chanting in Arabic, with the help of Ibrahim Abuelhawa, 'may there be peace in Jerusalem'.

James Twyman then offered prayers for peace in 12 different traditions: Hindu, Buddhist, Zoroastrian, Jain, Jewish, Shinto, African, Native American, Muslim, Bahai, Sikh, and Christian, closing with "Om Shanti, Peace, Shalom, Salaam".

It was quite moving to have 80 people from all over the world praying, singing and dancing for several hours. This helped the peace emissaries prepare for the February 9th prayer ceremony at Neve Shalom/ Wahat il Salaam, where 300 people gathered to focus the prayers of over a hundred thousand people from around the world, who sent their prayers for peace in the Middle East and world at that time.

Please join us with your thoughts and prayers when we gather each Friday from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM Jerusalem time. Your continued support makes these and other powerful peace events possible at this pivotal time.

The Old City Peace Vigil is sponsored by Peacemaker Community-Israel and Bustan L'Shalom.

NOTE FROM JEAN: here is a short excerpt from James Twyman's newletter in which he describes what happened during this Great Experiment III meditation last February 9:

"My recent trip to Israel changed my life. The sixty-five Beloveds who joined me had the chance to absorb the energy radiating from that sacred ground, and it prepared us for the vigil in ways we could never understand intellectually. We visited the site many believe Jesus was crucified and was resurrected on, the hill upon which he delivered the Sermon on the Mount, the shores of the Sea of Galilee where he spent time with his friends, the River Jordan where he was baptized, and finally the Garden of Gethsemane where he was arrested and betrayed. We also visited many holy Muslim and Jewish sites, and felt first hand the holiness that runs through this Holy Land. It charged our souls, and when time came for the vigil we were ready to anchor the Light of millions of other peacemakers. Several of us stayed for two extra days after the rest of the group left to sink further into the experience."

The world Prayer Center is calling all Christians worldwide to a Worldwide Day of Prayer on Monday, March 3, 2003.

Ted Haggard, President of The World Prayer Team, says his office has been flooded with messages from people all over the world saying that God is impressing upon them to prepare to pray on 03-03-03. "These believers do not know one another, nor are they connected to one another. They do not know that the others are saying the same thing. Clearly, the Holy Spirit is speaking to His church, and He is calling His people to pray," says Haggard.

"As these reports began to come in, we sensed in our hearts that God wants us to promote a huge outpouring of prayer on this special date. Many believe there is significance to this date because of its numerical sequence (03-03-03) which reminds many Christians of the Trinity. Moreover, the Holy Spirit has highlighted Jeremiah 33:3 (again, three 3's) as our call to action, 'Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know,'" says Haggard. The magnitude of this date is not lost on the non-Christian world as well. The Global Consciousness movement (New Age) has for years been planning a worldwide "Largest ever experiment into global consciousness" to take place on 03-03-03. Their effort is slated to begin at 3:33am (Figi local time), on the 3rd day of the 3rd month of the 3rd millennium. It has gained widespread notoriety in New Age circles.

Should this not be enough to cause Christians to pray, the significance of 03-03-03 becomes even more pressing as America could launch a war with Iraq at about that very hour, against a leader, Saddam Hussein, who has only recently embraced Islam as a way of gaining support from the Islamic world. Such was not the case with the first Gulf War. According to the Islamic calendar, March 3, 2003 is the eve of the Islamic New Year (Islamic year 1424 begins March 4, 2003). It is also the last day of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, when pilgrims are encouraged to make a sacrifice (The Festival of Sacrifice or Eid al-Adha). The key verse in the Qu' Ran about this festival to take place this year on March 3, 2003 is, "Truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life or my death, are all of Allah?" This date therefore holds great significance to the Islamic world.

While all of this is beneath the radars of the secular news media, it is clear to many Christian leaders that the world is on the brink of a spiritual battle of monumental proportions. The epicenter of this struggle is the Middle East-a battle is going on for Jerusalem and Babylon (Iraq), biblical centers of spiritual light and darkness.

The World Prayer Team therefore calls on all Christian churches and individuals to set aside at least 3 minutes to pray at 3:33 PM in their time zone on 03/03/03.

PRAYER FOCUS: Pray that the armies of heaven will push back the powers of darkness in the Middle East. Pray that Saddam Hussein will leave the country before war is required to remove him from power. Pray that a spiritual shield will contain hostilities within the Iraqi borders (if war cannot be avoided), such that it doesn't spill over to the entire Islamic world. Pray that weapons of mass destruction, if they are deployed on any side of the battle, will be powerless. Pray that this date, rather than being a focal point of darkness, will be overwhelmed by the Light of God through the worldwide prayers of His people.

PLEASE FORWARD this message to every person you know as soon as possible. 03-03-03 is just a few days away.
