Radio Interview of Jean Hudon
The following is a translation of the French transcript of a live radio interview with Jean Hudon, made by Colette Chabot that was broadcast from Montreal on December 26, 1987 as part of the CBC radio show "Le Carrousel".
Colette Chabot: We welcome Jean Hudon who has come from Anse St-Jean to talk to us this morning. Jean Hudon was a rock musician for 10 years. Today he is a writer and author of the "Guiding Manual for a New World" and of a new book entitled, "The Immortal Child". Jean Hudon is co-founder of the World Federation for Peace. He is also the founder of the Positive Thinking Planetary Network. Those who participated in the Harmonic Convergence last 16-17 August will be delighted to hear this morning the organizer of this event in Quebec. During the last few months, he has been working for the World Healing Meditation which will take place for the second time next 31st of December and which was made possible last year thanks to the direct or indirect collaboration of 500 million people on the planet. Jean Hudon lives and thinks differently. He forwards information to networks that bring people together for Peace, Love and Harmony and he collaborates in this way to further human and planetary evolution. This is why he is the guest of "Le Carrousel" this morning.
Colette Chabot: Hello Jean Hudon...
Jean Hudon: Hi!
Colette Chabot: Jean Hudon, you are a founding member of the World Federation for Peace. How did it come into existence?
Jean Hudon: In short, 2 years ago, in 1985, I was invited to participate in Switzerland, with people from Europe and America, in the foundation of a group which today has participants in about twenty countries. At the start, the idea was to offer a new approach, to find a new way of increasing people's awareness and getting them personnally involved for Peace. Its aim was thus to "train" peacemakers. During the meetings, we defined by consensus a description of what this organisation is, which in fact isn't an organization, but rather an organism. There is no director. People who want to participate have the liberty and take the responsibility to do so. My personal responsibility was to prepare a document called the "Guiding Manual for a New World" which offers a variety of texts for reference on the new world now emerging. Subsequently, groups have formed themselves in different corners of the world, bringing together 10 to 12 people reflecting upon the proposed themes and then undertaking relevant actions locally, according to each person's own inspiration. In our opinion, Peace today has to manifest itself through actions which could be actions in our personal lives, because if we want Peace in the world we must first start by being at Peace within ourselves and with people around us; and then on a larger scale, we can also participate in the organization of various actions for Peace.
Colette Chabot: Jean, in 79 you were a rock musician and suddenly you decided to join the community of Les Plateaux at Anse St-Jean, in the Saguenay area, where you built your own house, learned to grow your own food and therefore to live closer to Nature and in a more conscious way. I have been wondering, and probably our listeners too, what happened inside you and around you for such a change to occur?
Jean Hudon: Let's say that I gradually evolved to discover the need for me to live in a harmonious place, a place which would foster the awakening of my inner awareness. Let's say that playing music was also a preparation for that, because it got me in touch with energies of inner sensitivity which opened me to this feeling urging me to find Peace and Harmony within.
Colette Chabot: But you needed an external context to find within...
Jean Hudon: When we awake within, we become aware of that which, outside of us, doesn't help the inner process and we can then choose to create an environment favorable to this inner work. On the other hand, it is evident that moving to live in a privileged spot doesn't necessarily mean everything will be totally easy. There are always difficulties of an inner nature to overcome in the course of our spiritual awakening. But actually, the choice I made to go and live there came from the desire to get back in touch with Nature and to associate with others in doing so. I should mention that, at this time, the community was not really formed yet. From this moment on, I therefore contributed with other people to create an experience of life which is very interesting and fulfilling today and which enables me to express myself in all sorts of ways.
Colette Chabot: Because at the "Plateaux Commun'ô'Terre, the community where you live, you are self-sufficient. You cultivate your land. But you also lead independent and personal lives. Everyone has their own house...
Jean Hudon: Yes, after the experiences at the start, we felt the need to protect the intimacy of each family or each individual. So, everyone has their own house although the whole land is jointly owned. However, each one strives to organize himself/herself and to be self-sufficient in his/her garden and business. We have created businesses in association with others or individually and it's quite interesting to live there now.
Colette Chabot: You are also the coordinator of the Harmonic Convergence in which many listeners of the Carrousel participated last 16-17 August. For those who may not be familiar with this, can you tell us what the Harmonic Convergence was.
Jean Hudon: It was a unique event which took place once and may never take place again. It was proposed by an American, Mr. José Arguelles, who has done a lot of study on the ancient Mayan traditions and who noticed that at this date, 16-17 August, a special event had been predicted. There are also several Hopi prophecies which predicted that people all over the world, 144,000 "Awakened Dreamers", would come together at sacred sites to help heal and harmonize the energy leylines of the planet Earth perceived as a living being in itself. José Arguelles thus promoted this idea which spread around the Earth like wildfire. People all over embraced this initiative. Everywhere, the media reported on it at length (including a cover story in Times magazine) and even here in Quebec as I was able to note through my contacts, dozens of groups in all regions assembled at sacred sites at sunrise on August the 16th, as well as tens of thousands of others throughout the world, to participate in this unique experience. And from that time on, from what we could observe, this seems to have contributed to stimulate an awakening to a higher consciousness throughout Humanity as we have likewise observed last 31st of December for the World Healing Meditation which will take place again, as you mentioned before, this coming December 31.
Colette Chabot: But Jean, Harmonic Convergence produced results. Can you tell us what can occur when so many benevolent people meditate with elevated motives. Tell us a little about the results of the Harmonic Convergence of last 16-17 August.
Jean Hudon: There are different ways of considering this question. First of all, I think that the people who were the most touched by this experience were the very people who participated in it. Attuning ourselves with the consciousness of the living being that is the planet Earth and giving the control of our being to the universal forces of Life to serve as a channel for an energy which comes to purify and reharmonize the Earth, is already in itself something very intense. Everyone who participated either had visions or felt things which changed them enormously. On the other hand, at another level, that of the consciousness of Humanity, there is a postulate or an understanding emerging today which says that all of Humanity is linked, let's say on a telepathic level or on an unconscious level, and that when people are simultaneously working to harmonize themselves and infuse powerful ideas of Peace, Love and Harmony into the consciousness of Humanity, this has a subtle effect. For sure, we have perhaps not been able to see huge changes the day after, but this is a transformation which is very gradual. It's like an exponential growth curve. More and more, each day, there are new people interested in developing their inner potential, who want the world to improve and who do positive things to improve the world where they live and around themselves, in their business, etc., according to the responsibilities entrusted to them in this lifetime. So it's at this level, I believe, that we must look. It's an underground, long term work, somewhat in the spirit of "The Aquarian Conspiracy" as coined by Marilyn Ferguson. It is really an invisible work, but it can be observed everywhere today if one is willing to be attentive to these signs.
Colette Chabot: Are you referring to the Reagan-Gorbatchev summit?
Jean Hudon: Of course, we will think about these great events and we will all keep in our hearts the hope that these are not simply illusions but that a constructive processus is really well under way. I do believe, however, that beyond these glamourous actions there are many little things, and even quite important things, happening and not only on the level of Peace. It's important not to forget the issues of hunger in the world, of poverty, injustice, democracy, etc... There are several positive forces currently gaining strength in the world and it's here that I see the most encouraging signs.
Colette Chabot: Do you have the feeling Jean Hudon that it's easier to live closer to the planetary ideal when you live in the country? In other words, I would like to ask you how city dwellers can contribute towards this attunement of human consciousness on Earth, city dwellers who are not in your fairy decor of the Saguenay?
Jean Hudon: Well... Beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder. You can be near the Parc Lafontaine in Montreal and see as much beauty as I do in Anse-St-Jean. In short, I believe that wherever we live, we have the opportunity of finding harmony within. Obviously, it can't be denied that it helps to live in the country, close to Nature, but I really believe that inner Peace and the feeling of being in Harmony with the universe around us, begins within ourselves. Living in a city like I did for many years didn't prevent me from experiencing spiritual growth which led me on the other hand to eventually make certain choices in my life and move where I'm now living.
Colette Chabot: You told me that, according to you, suffering is the indication of a wrong choice in life. Can you explain this?...
Jean Hudon: For sure suffering... when we are right in it, when we are going through it intensely, we always have the feeling that the universe is unfair to us and that we don't deserve this. However, my personal understanding of things Jean Hudon: and it's up to each one of us I think to find his or her own understanding Jean Hudon: is the following... Life is like a Mother who wants to help us grow up and evolve... And what we are going through, all the experiences we have on Earth, all this is part of the Lessons of Life taught to us as in school. If we are willing to collaborate with our Mother seeking to guide us and foster our inner growth, the circumstances of our life will usually adjust so as to ease our task. Of course, that does not exclude the possibility of going through difficult times or tests which are there to further our inner purification and to bring out what is concealed, the Light within us. On the other hand, it is also a fact that if we stubbornly refuse to listen to the still small voice within, the voice of our Mother/Life who tries to guide us, if we consciously choose to act towards our body or towards other people around us in a way which is not in accordance with the laws of Life, not in Harmony with what we feel within has to be done, the consequences will be there to call us to order, and suffering is one of the aspects of these consequences. We could also further elaborate on the question of karma; that, for instance, we need to learn certain things which we have refused to learn in the past and also that the situations we meet in life bring us face to face with certain realities which we have to learn... I believe that suffering is very purifying and enables us to surpass ourselves and go further. If we always have a sheltered life, if everything always goes very well and we never face any real challenge, then perhaps we would not progress so fast.
Colette Chabot: How do you live in your everyday life?... Because there are days when you don't go out at all, you don't look at your scenery... At the moment you are writing a lot...
Jean Hudon: Yes. I have had to concentrate my attention intensively on a "mission" which has been entrusted to me one year ago, that is to write a book called "The Immortal Child" from which a film is to be made in order to reach out to as many people as possible with the new ideas emerging now and to catalyze this awakening of consciousness on a global scale. So inevitably, I have had to work a great deal and I'm presently working on the translation of this book. I sit in front of my Macintosh computer for as long as possible each day, to get it done as quickly as possible. But this doesn't prevent me from looking after all the small daily chores, putting wood in the stove, taking care of the children... I mean, we have nevertheless to remain in touch with the surrounding reality. Alas, I regret not being able to go for a walk outside as often as I would like to, not being able to enjoy the beauty of the countryside around me. But summer is there for that, with the gardening. When you work in a garden everyday, sowing the little seeds, weeding, watering, etc., all this helps since these are activities which, while being practical, keep us continually in touch with all that surrounds us.
Colette Chabot: Jean, are The Immortal Child and the Earth Concert the same thing?...
Jean Hudon: One emerged from the other... But perhaps we can first make a short digression here. Proceeding as in my previous book, the "Guiding Manual for a New World", I have put myself in harmony with the still small voice within and tried to follow the guiding thread of the words I heard, thus writing through inspiration, so to speak. In fact, many writers do this. I therefore gave myself the freedom to accept what comes from within, to write without arguing intellectually and, above all, without trying to imagine intellectually beforehand what will be the next part of the story. Thus when writing the fourth chapter, the central character called Gaia must theoretically, and actually I have accepted this at face value, must take part in a concert to be called the "Earth Concert" which will take place, it is written like that in the book, on the 31st of December 1989, in 2 years, in New York and should be broadcast live all over the Earth. A parallel that can be made is that of "Live Aid for Africa", this fund-raising show broadcast live by satellite to approximately 2 billion people and organized by Bob Geldof who brought together artists for 12 hours on two stages, in Philadelphia and London. So the concept of the "Earth Concert" includes both the presentation of a film based on this book, "The Immortal Child", and the idea of bringing to the attention of the world population the urgent need to redirect all our efforts of development and all our technological choices so as to preserve and save our planetary environment. As for the funds raised through this show, they will go to all the organizations currently working to preserve and restore the environment throughout the world. It's therefore quite a big project which I don't intend and obviously cannot bring about alone. There are already several people among the contacts I have made who have proposed to help and others are regularly joining in. As for the book, very shortly it will be published in French and in English, as well as a poster made from an exceptional painting offered by a French painter. Also translations into other languages, for instance Spanish, are going to be made. In summary, this is it... The Earth Concert Project and the film arise from the book I've written.
Colette Chabot: You let yourself be inspired by a Force greater than yourself. How would you call it?
Jean Hudon: Mmm... Labels are always deceptive... Personally, I identify this Force as being Life. For me, Life is the most fundamental thing that is. What pulses in each person listening to us in this moment, it's this Life which thinks through us, it's this magic which expresses itself through all our thoughts. And for me, Life is the most precious guide in all matters. On the other hand, obviously, my ego, my personality which has developed through different experiences in this life and certainly during other previous lifetimes, has its own ideas acquired through the various experiences we go through and can often come to be an obstacle. So for me the challenge is to bring Peace into my mind, into my consciousness and to be able to open myself to this Life, to this universal Force that others call God... There are an infinity of names for this Force.
Colette Chabot: And which you feel daily...
Jean Hudon: I believe that this Life constantly expresses itself through me, despite all my imperfections and with my qualities if it can be said that I have any. I believe that everything originates from this. Even if we try to make divisions as I was doing... my ego and Life; in the end it's the same thing except there is a veil, an imperfect filter which must still be purified to allow full manifestation of this Force which is in each one of us.
Colette Chabot: You have been the coordinator in Quebec of the World Healing Meditation which will be held for the second time this year, on 31 December.
Jean Hudon: Yes. Let us recall briefly what this event consists of. John Price of the Quartus Foundation in Texas proposed the idea a few years ago that on 31 December 1986 there would be a one hour simultaneous meditation, with all the time zones being synchronized to unite as many people as possible, the aim being 50 million people actually participating and 500 million people supporting the event. Last year it was in fact a great success since for one hour about 50 million people meditated, prayed and thought about Peace, Love and Harmony and served as a channel for this planetary healing energy which helped, I think everyone has now become aware of it, to bring a very positive atmosphere in favour of Peace throughout the world. So this World Healing Meditation was such a great success in 86 that it was decided to make it an annual event and this year again we can go to various places to join with others to participate in it or we can simply invite some friends and meditate in the intimacy of our own home. It takes place, note this carefully, from 7:00h to 8:00h in Quebec, that is from 12:00h to 13:00h Greenwich Mean Time.
Finally, let us also mention that there are many other organisations proposing similar meditations such as "Peace the 21st" which invites people to create a Thought-Image of Peace from 19h00 to 19h30 on 21 December, March, June and September or the "Love Chain" which is a similar 15 minutes meditation each Sunday at noon. Thank you.
Colette Chabot: Thank you Jean.
